BTS

K-pop group BTS is continuing its world tour in April, with four newly announced dates at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The global superstars will perform on April 8, 9, 15 and 16, with the last day of the tour being streamed live online. Additionally, the group’s event “Live Play in Las Vegas” will be held on all four days at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

The news comes after the group’s announcement last week of concert dates in Seoul, South Korea on March 10, 12 and 13 at the Seoul Olympic Stadium. Those performances will be BTS’ first in its home country since 2019. BTS performed four sold-out shows at SoFi stadium in Los Angeles at the end of last year, filling the stadium with tens of thousands of fans. According to Billboard , the group’s tour dates in L.A. grossed $33.3 million with 214,000 tickets sold — the most made by a run of shows at a single venue since 2012.

BTS is best known for hits “Butter” and “Dynamite,” with the former nominated for best pop duo/group performance at this year’s Grammy Awards . The nomination is BTS’ second, following last year’s nomination for “Butter.” The 64th Annual Grammy Awards will be held in Las Vegas just before BTS’ concert dates, on April 3 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. BTS has yet to win a Grammy, but is known for its extremely devoted fans who have helped catapult the group to global superstardom since its debut in 2013.

Registration to purchase tickets for the group’s new dates is open from now until Feb. 26 at 5 p.m., when tickets will go on sale. Tickets for BTS’ Los Angeles dates sold out almost immediately.

The Ultimate K-Pop Guide to Las Vegas

With more concerts and businesses catering to the fanbase, las vegas is a prime location to indulge in k-pop fantasies..

Published on 9/15/2023 at 1:08 PM

las vegas korean tour

For most of my life, my impression of Las Vegas was shaped by a glinting combination of pop culture, advertisements , and other people’s first-hand accounts, including stories from my mom of camping on the Vegas Strip in the ’70s and tales of the casino heists and drunken escapades in Hollywood’s mid-sized blockbusters. In 2022, I finally visited the so-called Sin City for myself, but it wasn’t any of those shiny, nostalgic stories that got me there. It was K-pop.

For a week back in April 2022, I traveled, along with nearly 200,000 of my fellow BTS fans, to Las Vegas to see the Korean superstars take the stage at Allegiant Stadium. In four sold-out shows over two weekends, the K-pop septet demonstrated why they have tens of millions of fans worldwide. In the space around and between the shows, BTS label HYBE painted the city purple, the signature color of the group and its massive and loyal fandom known as ARMY. They also organized events around the city for fans to participate in when not at a concert, and according to HYBE’s quarterly financial report , “BTS Permission to Dance The City” attracted 144,000 visitors across its various offerings.

For “BTS The City,” 11 MGM resorts offered BTS-themed hotel rooms, with Aria Resort & Casino’s nightclub , and hosted official concert after-parties. Bellagio Fountain played water shows set to BTS bops, while Mandalay Bay’s Seabreeze Cafe presented a special menu inspired by some of the BTS members’ favorite Korean dishes. In Area 15 , an immersive entertainment space, fans could visit a pop-up museum chronicling the preparation for and execution of the “Permission to Dance” tour. The concerts were the main events, but they were far from the only draw for ARMY looking to turn their trip into a K-pop-filled week or weekend.

Alex Kang, CEO of Las Vegas-based entertainment production company Infinite Prospects Entertainment (IPE), helped make “BTS The City” happen in Las Vegas. A Korean American who has lived in Vegas for nine years, Kang started IPE two and a half years ago because he didn’t see any other companies pushing Korean media and other kinds of Asian entertainment in the region. “Vegas is the biggest entertainment city in the world and there’s no K-pop?” Kang said. He set out to change that.

las vegas korean tour

Of course, BTS can’t always be in town. So, a year following the success of the group’s mini-residency, IPE hosted the We Bridge festival, a two-day music festival and a three-day cultural expo billed as a celebration of Asian entertainment and culture. Some of K-pop’s biggest acts, including Monsta X, Enhypen, and Jessi, performed at Mandalay Bay’s Michelob ULTRA Arena as part of the event. Many attending K-pop artists also offered hi-touches, paid experiences during which fans can high-five an idol and take pictures.

On the expo floor, attendees could try various foods from different Asian countries, explore immersive art installations, and peruse a showcase of Korean fashion and beauty trends. While the celebratory spirit of the inaugural event was understandably muted due to the unexpected death of K-pop artist Moon Bin days before, Kang said that We Bridge has plans to hold another event this year.

“I think you’ve got to create an environment where K-pop fans can come and hang out, to meet each other and create more friends,” Kang said, understanding that K-pop fans often want to see each other as much as they want to see their favorite artists on the stage.

The community function of K-pop events and spaces is at the heart of the business model for Permission to K-Pop , which has two locations in Las Vegas.

“I want the fans to have a space where they can walk in,” co-owner Rona Dinopol told Thrillist via Zoom. “And instead of just being there for the sole purpose of, you know, buying albums and merchandise, they’re also there to be able to talk to other people.”

Permission to K-Pop has spaces designed for fans to lounge around, unbox their albums, and trade photocards. The staff are K-pop fans themselves and are encouraged to talk to visitors about their favorite K-pop idols.

“Our number one goal when we opened up was to make sure that our store will be a space for fans to feel comfortable and not judged. Our stores are a safe space for fans to express their admiration for K-pop,” Dinopol said.

Like some K-pop shops in Korea, Permission to K-Pop has a “lucky draw” vending machine . Upon purchasing an album, visitors usually earn one press of the button, letting fate decide which photocard they will get. The K-pop vending machine, which, as far as Dinopol knows, is the only one of its kind in the US, is regularly restocked with comeback or concert-relevant cards. For example, when Blackpink played at Allegiant Stadium last month , Permission to K-Pop’s lucky draw vending machine was filled with Blackpink photocards only.

las vegas korean tour

Most K-pop fans don’t stop at just one shop, and Las Vegas has several to choose from. In addition to Permission to K-Pop, the Chinatown neighborhood also hosts K-Pop USA ; albums bought at this location will be counted for the Hanteo Charts. (It’s about a 15-minute drive to Las Vegas South Premium Outlets , where KPOP 1004 is located, from Chinatown.) If you’re in this area, check out the Korea Town Plaza on the western end of Chinatown Vegas at Spring Mountain and Rainbow. You’ll find everything from Korean snacks to cosmetics and skincare.

For a more leisurely afternoon in the neighborhood, spend the afternoon at Gabi Coffee & Bakery , a cafe that proudly displays the history of coffee in Korea. A heavy wooden door opens to baristas preparing drinks inside an indoor greenhouse while customers sit in various eclectic seating, including couch swings and wooden stairs at the back of the massive space. The rainbow crepe cake may be an Instagrammable favorite, but I recommend the Earl Grey cake and an Einspanner. The menu also includes a selection of light bites.

Many K-pop fans like to explore Korean food when they are in town for a concert, and Las Vegas has quite a few options. Kang recommends 8 Ounce Korean Steakhouse . The restaurant, which also has a location in Houston, offers a variety of meats, including my favorite, samgyeopsal, which is grilled pork belly. If you’re in the mood for some sul, soju, makgeolli, and Korean beer are all on the drinks menu. Chinatown Plaza hosts Mr. BBQ , an all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ spot owned by Jenny Chai. Chai, a Korean American and second-generation restaurateur, opened a Mr. BBQ in Las Vegas at the beginning of this year after running a separate location in Fullerton, CA for a decade.

“My family and I have been taking trips to Las Vegas since we moved to California from Korea about 40 years ago,” Chai told Thrillist via email. “When I was little, and we took trips here to Vegas, there were very little Asian restaurant options. Now there are so many more great restaurants and options for diners looking for great Asian food.”

While Mr. BBQ’s Las Vegas location was not yet open when BTS came to town, they were in business when the We Bridge Festival took place, and Chai said she noticed an increase in customers.

Chai also owns Mama Chai’s , a boba and dessert shop in Chinatown. In honor of Blackpink’s concert, the shop hosted its third K-pop-themed event , where anyone who purchased a drink was given a commemorative postcard to mark the occasion. Local vendors were on hand, selling K-pop merch for fans to purchase, and the menu for the night included a special themed drink and black and pink mochi doughnuts.

Miguel Lorenzana, who runs Permission to K-Pop with Dinopol, expected the shops’ sales to double while Blackpink was in town. “Generally, depending on the popularity of the group, our revenue spikes,” Lorenzana told Thrillist, adding that it isn’t just one store that feels the bump but all of the K-pop stores in the city.

In November, American K-pop artist Eric Nam will play at Las Vegas’ Brooklyn Bowl . The 34-year-old soloist may not draw the same crowds as BTS or Blackpink, but Lorenzana still foresees increased foot traffic for the K-pop shops.

las vegas korean tour

Lorenzana said he can feel a community building around K-pop fans in Las Vegas. “When we first opened the first location, I wasn’t super aware of what cupsleeves were,” he said, referring to the themed cafes K-pop and other fan communities throw in local cafes and boba shops. “But there’s been a large uptick in cupsleeve events here in Vegas, specifically, there’s probably almost one every weekend at this point, compared to how it was not even a year ago, where there was one every now and then. The community just continues to grow.”

Las Vegas may not have the population of major metropolitan centers like New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, but the city does have the concentrated entertainment and tourism infrastructure to host live performances and other events. “A lot of people from not just within the country but even from the rest of the world come to Vegas because they know there’s entertainment that’s readily available to them,” said Dinopol. “There’s a lot of things that we can offer to [K-pop groups]. It’s a missed opportunity every single time when they don’t stop in the city to do a show.”

While Las Vegas might lack a designated ‘Koreatown’ like Los Angeles, the city indeed holds scattered treasures of Korean culture. Imagine eating amazing KBBQ, followed by some soju, and capping off the night at a lively karaoke bar – all conveniently located in one place. Welcome to the upcoming KoreaTown Village, where your desires for a vibrant Koreatown experience will come to life in Las Vegas!

KoreaTown Village, the latest venture on Spring Mountain, promises to hold all your beloved Koreatown experiences. Spearheaded by the reputable Sapporo Group Management (SGM) – the driving force behind popular Las Vegas spots like Sapporo Revolving Sushi, Master Kim’s Korean BBQ, and Ichi Ramen House – this new project will bring multiple beloved brands under one roof.

Master Kim’s Korean BBQ is said to take up 4,000 square feet, and Industry 13 Karaoke and Bar has a spacious 5,000 square feet; they recently opened in August 2023. And there’s more – the plaza will also host the first ever Korean bank in Las Vegas, called Open Bank; adding to the variety of what a KoreaTown Village will be like.

Going back to the early days of this project, Freddy Hwang, the CEO of SGM , had a unique vision for the plaza. At first, he pictured a one-stop hub featuring all of SGM’s diverse brands. However, when Open Bank, a prominent California-based bank well-known in the Korean-American community, approached him, a wave of pride and joy washed over him at the prospect of having a Korean-rooted bank as part of SGM’s project. This inspired a swift shift in their vision, transforming the multi-brand plan into a meticulously organized Korean-American forward destination.

The location at 5599 Spring Mountain Rd. spans out 13,000 square feet, but SGM sees it as just the beginning. In our conversation, Mr. Hwang unveiled SGM’s dream of crafting a vast mall filled with an assortment of Korean discoveries. KoreaTown Village project is an ideal launchpad for the company’s ambitious future ventures. As KoreaTown Village takes shape on Spring Mountain, it promises a tighter-knit Korean-American community for Las Vegas locals to embrace.

SGM sees their projects and ventures as more than just businesses; it’s a culmination of the company’s hard work – the thoughtfully curated modern designs, the meticulously selected brands – all embodying their vigilant dream of bringing Korean food and culture for everyone to enjoy.

The eagerly anticipated Master Kim’s Korean BBQ 3 is expected to open in early 2024, renowned for its premium all-you-can-eat (AYCE) Korean BBQ featuring high-quality Certified Angus Beef. Across all Master Kim’s locations, you’ll find consistent excellence, not only in their main offerings but also their side dishes, cold noodles and even desserts! SGM proudly boasts their commitment to freshness and quality by centralizing daily preparation at their headquarters’ commercial kitchen, allowing hands-on executives to ensure that every location delivers an impeccable dining experience. If you can’t wait for this location to open, make sure you check out their other locations.

Top 5 airlines serving from Las Vegas to South Korea

The flight crews were extremely professional, helpful, and courteous. Departure and arrival times were accurate. No delay. I will use K airline again. Thanks

We were seated at the back and that was very uncomfortable for me with the turbulence we experienced on our way to Chicago.

I enjoyed flying on Korean Air. The service was great and the food was yummy. They served white fish.

I enjoyed flying on Korean Air. The service was great and the food was yummy, especially the bibimbap and cold spicy noodles. The only thing that bummed me out on this red-eye flight was that my seat did not properly recline so I was not able to sleep.

On time and flight crew are always so happy to help and always smiling unlike other airlines.

Great crew, decent food Charging plugs were broken on both seats next to me. Only the USB port was available, and that charges, very, very slowly. Seat was also broken, it would not lock into position when reclining.

Korean Air had great service and the Bibimbap dish was the best airplane food I’ve ever had. It was a long flight so in between the two meals they served customers could get Shin ramen. The flight attendants let my children use a pair of nice headphones for the flight and had earbuds and slippers for all the adults. The flight was long but the time passed by relatively quickly because they have many great shows in their entertainment TV. I watched the BTS Love Yourself and Speak Yourself concerts 💜

Stewardess are nice. Food could have been better and should have a better dessert. They do not offer scotch or beer. You have to ask for it. I also was not happy that you do not serve ginger ale and or cranberry juice. This is my first time that an international flight do not have this. I go home overseas every year and when I travel through ANA, Delta, Qatar, JAL, Asiana Air, United Air. they all serve this two very famous drink. You do not have a great snack tray.

You did not put me on a Korean Air flight! so I do not have nothing to say

Wonderful cabin crew!!!!! Food was poor, in flight entertainment was just ok. They need to serve more water on a 15 hour flight--we were dehydrated and kept asking for water.

Flight attendants rude, they disappear for almost 3 hours not doing rounds to see what people needed. The laboratories were full of empty water cups, because they never come back to collect them.

Flew on an Airbus 350-900. Excellent aircraft properly cleaned and serviced. Flight crew was excellent plane departed and arrived on time. The A350 has excellent air circulation far better than the 777. I would recommend Asiana to anyone looking to fly in a clean comfortable environment. This is my second round trip flight from New York to Bangkok via Asiana and I will book Asiana again!

I could not choose my seat prior to check in

I had the most wonderful experience from CEB bag drop through deplaning. The staff, the aircraft, food, and cabin crew were all amazing. I want to give a kudos to Marky from Mactan Cebu's Asiana airport staff for his exceptional customer service and assistance.

JetBlue's check-in was great, but there was an in-flight attendant who was very rude and unkind. I didn't realize that the bathrooms were already locked 30 mins prior to landing and needed to use the restroom. Instead of politely asking me to return, she rudely told me, 'NO, bathrooms are locked! Go back to your seat!' The JetBlue flight was more than an hour delay, which made me almost miss my connecting flight with Asiana. I understand the reasoning, but the action they took to get a hold of maintenance was time consuming. It took them more than 30 mins to get a hold of maintenance and for maintenance to get started. The Asiana flight and crew were wonderful, in general. They waited for us who were delayed from the previous flight before they took off and were very kind to take my checked baggage's info. Seats were a little uncomfortable for such long flight, but service and flight attendants were great! However, my 3 checked baggages are missing! They're lost somewhere in the transition. I'm writing this review 3 days after my arrival to the Philippines, and my 3 checked baggages, where my wedding dress is, are all still missing! I and the CEB airport crew have sent multiple emails to both JetBlue and Asiana, and neither has responded to any of our emails. Although, I was able to get in contact with JetBlue's Interline Department who confirmed that the bags were turned over to Asiana without confirmation details.

The full flat bed was not that comfortable, hard and lumpy., too much space wasted with those bulky walls and divisions instead of making the bed 3-4 inches wider. The compartment where you put your feet is like a shoebox, poor design. Toilets of A350 are just too small, sink is too small

Aside from a LOT of turbulence the flight was perfect! The flight crew was superb and the food was delicious!

The seats (legroom) are tight and chairs cushion is stiff (not comfortable). The crew was courteous, professional and friendly. There was no food / snack for this flight (very short flight, but still would be nice to provide some snack for the enjoyment).

FA were very great, plane was A350 new and clean

The crew attended to my needs and the foods served are delivious.

This flight was delayed approximately 4 hours due to bad weather in HNL.

It was great with the exception of a rude desk member on the way back. And a terrible sandwich on the way back.

One of the best flights Ive had in a long time

Flight delayed then cancelled then gate changed two times then baggage lost.

My flight was canceled minutes before boarding started. It took three hours to get rebooked and it was on another airline overnight with another stop added. All I got was two $15 food coupons.

The plane is extremely loud and there’s no place to charge devices.

Not great to be very honest. Our flight was delayed after we sat at the airport until 15 minutes after we were supposed to leave . We were then notified the plane was being worked on “and the parts were out in the ground and still not finished .” Even though the work started the evening before and they knew it wasn’t fixed. . Then we were told it would be a 1:15 pm boarding time so we waited then at 1:45pm we were told it would be an 11:15pm boarding . It was changed to and 3:55am boarding the next morning . We lost out on a day in Hawaii and a night of our VRBO rental.

Safety record impeccable and important since flying many hours and thousands of miles over ocean.

Love the food service and attentiveness of the crew. Could have wi-if on flight

My seat assignment was disappear even I had chosen my seat next to my husband at making reservation. And also the touch panel on my screen was broken so I could have limited entertainment during the long flight.

On time every leg of the journey and exceptional staff at counter, gate, and on board. I haven’t travelled in US for a long time and was genuinely surprised how pleasant this was.

Hated every minute of it. This flight should have only taken 1.5hrs but was delayed over 10hours. Now I am being told I cannot be compensated or refunded my ticket price or extra leg room, which I purchased but did not receive, because the airline is throwing the blame on the 3rd party I purchased tickets through and 3rd party putting the blame on airline. No one wants to help. They received their money and that's all they care about. Im going on 3 days of still trying to get to my final destination, had to cancel car rental, car insurance and hotel. Currently staying in airport until hotels open up. Thank you Lufthansa, Kayak, Underpricer and United for making this trip the worst ever.

The delays (5 hrs) were a comedy of errors, and the multiple safety issues encountered were very concerning.

flight delays, staff only communicating when pushed, food service lasting a grand total of 7 minutes, stuck in seat from 45mins into flight until landing

Crew was great and did their best to make us comfortable and captain came out at the beginning to announce why the flight was delayed, weather situation up ahead, and kept us updated throughout the flight.

the flight from Tampa departed with a delay. The food on board was poor, usually on international airlines alcoholic beverages are offered free of charge , but here it was for a fee, the cutlery was wooden, there were no hot drinks (tea, coffee). Unfortunately, I didn't take pictures of the portions of food, but it wouldn't have been enough for a child either. And in the future, I will try not to use the services of this airline

they made me check my carryon. There was space in the overhead bins.

Nice flight, nice crew but no cookie or napkin with my seltzer.

Trip was smooth bumpy from the wind but no issues at all the crew attendant was very pleasant and had great customer service

This was a Lufthansa flight. Disappointing main meal. Very rough over Canada and arrival at FRA. IFE was almost unusable.

It was great to check carryon luggage at no charge when there was no room for ours. A hidden benefit of having low-tier tickets. Also great to stay off plane as long as possible. Airline gave us seats we wanted on this last leg, again at no charge.

Fresh fuit or veg snacks would be so great, but there are two good restaurants in Denver airport. Try Etais UDIS or Freshens DIA for nutritious delicious pita sandwiches/ donairs and crepes in Freshens.

The late departure Of two hours waitresses, immature, and gossiping

Crowded plane but it flew on time and had friendly staff

We had a good flight, service was good and lots of leg room. Service was good and the staff were friendly.

The Air Canada agent was very helpful helping with my luggage and cat carrier when I went there instead of United.

Overall I will say it was a very good experience. It was as comfortable as can be expected for such a long flight - 12 hours from Toronto to Tokyo. Everyone was very pleasant and polite. Even the passengers were cooperative and trying to be nice to each other. Of course the space is limited on such a long flight. The bathrooms were actually very clean. The food was very good. I liked how there was a variety of food options. The in flight entertainment system was also very impressive! There were some children on the flight but they were well behaved and hardly ever crying. Great Job Canada Air! I will definitely fly with Air Canada again!

It was upsetting that the flights were canceled but that was due to weather. I did not receive any vouchers for food or a hotel stay when I was forced to spend the night in Montreal. I was also upset when my seat was changed many times.. The plane seemed old with a non-functioning screen and loose side pockets.. All in all in need of updating. On the positive side, the staff in areas was friendly and helpful.

Lost my bag. My first ever flight with them that they forced me to gate check my bag on, due to them having a 30 year old plane with small carry on bins, and they lost my bag. Never again.

United force you to download their App to do the check-in.
