The details of  Billboard 's  Top Tours of 2023,  based on how much each act's trek earned at the box office, have been revealed, and  Taylor Swift  is nowhere to be found.

That's not because her Eras Tour wasn't successful. Rather, as  Billboard  explains, figures for the Eras Tour have not yet been reported to  Billboard,  which disqualifies Taylor from appearing on the year-end chart. That leaves her pal  Beyoncé  to take the number-one spot, with her Renaissance tour grossing $570.5 million this year.

Coldplay  is second on the list, with grosses of $342.5 million for their Music of the Spheres tour, followed by  Harry Styles ' Love On Tour in third place with just over $338 million.  Ed Sheeran  is #5 with just under $257 million, while  Pink  is #6 with just under $227 million.  Elton John 's Farewell Tour, which came to an end on July 8, is #7 with $210 million, and  The Weeknd  is #8 with $192.5 million.

Other artists who made the list of the Top 40 Tours of the Year include  Shania Twain ,  Bruno Mars ,  Imagine Dragons ,  Michael Bublé ,  Lizzo ,  Billy Joel & Stevie Nicks  and  Sting .

Rock Dominates Over Half of Billboard’s New Top 10 Highest Grossing Tours of All Time

In Billboard Boxscore 's updated list of the top 10 highest grossing tours of all time, rock holds on strong and dominates over half the list, with two other active tours by young and veteran artists bookending the ranking.

Top Grossing Tours: No. 10 - No. 5

One of those active tours is English pop superstar Harry Styles ' Love On Tour, which has been ongoing since 2021, raking in an impressive $418 million so far, which is good enough to secure the No. 10 spot.

Appearing next at No. 9 is AC/DC 's Black Ice World Tour, which took place from 2008 to 2010. Across 107 shows attended by 2.8 million people, the run grossed $442 million. Pink Floyd bassist and co-singer Roger Waters occupies No. 8 as The Wall Live took in $459 million after playing to 4.1 million people at 219 total gigs.

Coldplay , who are rock to some and not to others (we'll let you decide for yourself), brought in $524 million on the A Head Full of Dreams Tour, which made 115 stops in front of 5.4 million fans. That landed them at No. 7 on the updated list.

Coming in at No. 6 and No. 5 are The Rolling Stones , who earned $547 million and $558 million on the No Filter Tour (2017-2019, 2021) and A Bigger Bang Tour (2005-2007), respectively. Comparatively, the more recent run was comprised of 58 shows for 2.9 million people and the mid-2000s jaunt was a more exhausting 111 shows for 3.5 million fans. It's safe to say the Stones earn quite a lot more per show these days!

Top Grossing Tours: No. 4 - No. 1

One of the most attention-grabbing tours of the last decade was certainly the Not In This Lifetime... tour, which featured the return of Slash and Duff McKagan to Guns N' Roses . After playing 158 shows to a whopping 5.4 million fans, GN'R netted $584 million, which places them at No. 4 on Billboard's list.

There's a significant gap in gross sales from the first seven tours on the list and the top three, leaping from GN'R's $584 million all the way up to $736 million for U2 's 2009 through 2011 U2 360° Tour. The band played 110 shows on that run and a staggering 7.3 million people showed up.

No. 2 is another younger artist, English sensation Ed Sheeran , whose 2017 through 2019 The Divide Tour found him playing 258 gigs in front of 8.9 million fans. And $776 million was earned.

Finally, the No. 1 spot is claimed by a world-renowned legend whose tour is still ongoing, meaning these figures are going to keep increasing. Sir Elton John 's Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour initially ran from 2018 through 2020, but was interrupted by the pandemic. He got back on the road last year and, so far, this tour has brought in $853 million. The living legend's tour has sold 5.5 million tickets across 293 shows.

Past Touring Stats

In addition to tracking those top grossing tours of all time, Billboard regularly tracks the highest grossing tours of each year. Last year, the list had a healthy amount of rock and metal acts, from Iron Maiden (No. 26) through The Rolling Stones (No. 6). Read more here  and for 2021's year-end figures, head here .

Rock Artists Make Up One-Third of 2023 ‘Billboard’ Top Tours List

' src=

Billboard  has released their 2023 Year-End Boxscore Charts for touring, and rock artists fared incredibly well.

Per an infographic shared via social media, rock artists accounted for 32.4% of the top 100 tours of 2023. However,  Billboard  noted of rock and pop’s combined figures, “While pop and rock have long dominated the touring space, the two central genres’ combined market share has dropped from 69% in 2019, to 59% in 2022, and now to 48% in 2023.”

From K-pop to Latin and beyond, Billboard’s Boxscore charts are undergoing a facelift, spotlighted by a diverse crop of artists crowding the 2023 year-end report. Regardless, many rock artists found themselves in the top 40 of the publication’s Year-End 2023 Top Tours list . The include the following:

-2. Coldplay ($342.5M gross) -7. Elton John ($210M gross) -9. Depeche Mode ($175.2M gross) -14. Metallica ($125.8M gross) -15. Dead & Company ($114.7M gross) -18. Guns N’ Roses ($96.2M gross) -19. blink-182 ($95.7M gross) -20. Muse ($92.7M gross) -23. Red Hot Chili Peppers ($77.2M gross) -24. Phish ($76.8M gross) -25. Eagles ($76.4M gross) -30. Elton John’s Historic Year

Among the top rock artists on Billboard ‘s Year-End 2023 Top Tours list is Elton John. In 2023, the world saw Sir Elton officially say goodbye to touring in July with the final show of his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour.

Before Taylor Swift came and made an obscene amount of money with her “Eras Tour,” Billboard reported in January  that John’s farewell tour grossed more than any other tour in history. At that time, the tour had grossed $817.9 million over the course of 278 shows. That shattered the previous record holder, which was Ed Sheeran. His “The Divide Tour” raked in $776.4 million in 258 shows.

The setlist from Sir Elton’s final show on July 8 in Stockholm, Sweden is below.

Rock’s Greatest Live Albums: Top 40 Ranked

40. billy joel – ‘songs in the attic’ (1981).

Billy Joel made excellent records in his early career, but nearly every song on this collection (recorded at various venues on his 1980 tour) sounds better live. The single LP was so packed he didn’t even bother to include “Piano Man.”

39. Yes – “Yessongs’ (1973)

Progressive rock at its finest. This triple (!) live LP came on the heels of the only two albums recorded with the band’s best lineup (Chris Squire on bass, Jon Anderson on vocals, Bill Bruford on drums, Steve Howe on guitar and Rick Wakeman on keyboards) -- ‘Fragile’ and ‘Close To The Edge.’ But Bruford quit at the beginning of the tour, so most of this album features Alan White, whose playing was much better suited for the arenas that Yes was now headlining.

38. The Kinks – ‘One For The Road’ (1980)

The classic version of “Lola” comes from this live album, and that alone earns it a spot on this list.

37. Thin Lizzy – ‘Live And Dangerous’ (1978)

Like a lot of other albums on this list, there’s at least a bit of post-production sweetening here, but the final result is one of the greatest albums -- “live” or otherwise -- in ‘70s hard rock.

36. Rush – ‘Exit… Stage Left’ (1981)

Coming off of their best album, 1981’s ‘Moving Pictures’ was the perfect time for Rush to show off their live prowess; the heavy prog rock band somehow went from cult phenomenon to arena headliners. The album was so packed with classics that even “Limelight” (a song from ‘Moving Pictures’ that was an ode to playing live) didn’t make the album, despite being a recent radio hit. Neil Peart’s drum solo in “YYZ” is so iconic, many fans who aren’t even drummers know it by heart.

35. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers – ‘The Live Anthology’ (2009)

For some reason, Petty never had a definitive live album, but this collection, with performances from 1978 through 2007 is an amazing collection that shows that Petty and the Heartbreakers were one of the best live bands in the ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s and the ‘00s.

34. Neil Young & Crazy Horse – ‘Live Rust’ (1979)

As the ‘70s came to a close, punk rock bands were making the hippies from the ‘60s look obsolete. Neil Young was an exception and this raging, roaring live album with Crazy Horse shows why: on songs like “Hey, Hey, My, My (Into The Black)” and “Sedan Delivery,” they play as furiously as the Sex Pistols. Not that they left psychedelic jams in the past: “Cortez The Killer” and “Like A Hurricane” were improvisational gems, and Young still was great at playing solo folk, as he demonstrated on “Sugar Mountain” and “I Am A Child.”

33. Lynyrd Skynyrd – ‘One More From The Road’ (1976)

If you never had the opportunity to see Lynyrd Skynyrd during Ronnie Van Zant’s lifetime (and let’s give props to Johnny Van Zant, who has done a great job fronting the band for decades), this is the closest that you’ll get. They released this after having only three studio albums, which gave them more than enough material for a double live album. Besides showing off their southern pride on “‘T’ For Texas” they also provied themselves to be blues-rock equals of their idols in Cream on Robert Johnson’s “Crossroads.” And of course, this album has the definitive -- “What song is it you want to hear?” -- “Freebird.”

32. Janis Joplin – ‘The Woodstock Experience’ (1998)

Recorded at the Woodstock festival in 1969, Joplin performed ten hours later than scheduled, and partially due to that, she wasn’t as transcendent as she was at her Monterey Pop Festival performance a few years earlier. But Jopin at less than full power is better than most artists on their best night, as evidenced here. Robert Plant, Steven Tyler, Ann Wilson and Axl Rose are among the singers still carrying Joplin’s influence today.

31. Ozzy Osbourne – ‘Randy Rhoads Tribute’ (1987)

Recorded in 1980 and 1981 during Ozzy’s first tours as a solo artist. His two albums with his original guitarist Randy Rhoads (who tragically died in a plane crash in 1982) held up to his earlier material with Black Sabbath, and his live band (Rhoads, bassist Rudy Sarzo and drummer Tommy Aldridge) packed almost as much of a punch as Sabbath. Someone send this (along with ‘Blizzard of Oz’ and ‘Diary of a Madman’) to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame voters, already: Randy Rhoads needs to be inducted.

30. The Runaways – ‘Live In Japan’ (1977)

It’s a rough and ragged live album, and that’s appropriate: we’re talking about the Runaways here. Opening with “Queens Of Noise” (a theme song of sorts), they owned iconic songs like the Velvet Underground’s “Rock and Roll” and the Troggs’ “Wild Thing.” And their own classic, “Cherry Bomb,” holds its own against those two timeless jams.

29. Queen – ‘Live Killers’ (1979)

In the ‘80s, Queen kept cranking out pop singles, but by the end of the ‘70s, they were still very much a rock band and that’s on full display here. While the critics didn’t love the album, they didn’t get Queen anyway, and for years, this was the only authorized documentation of a Queen concert.

28. Iron Maiden – ‘Live After Death’ (1985)

In 1984, when this album was recorded, Maiden was graduating to arena-headlining status, and they did it without having to rely on hit singles: they were the rare band to achieve that kind of popularity without having to hear complaints of “selling out.” It might have been hard to imagine them headlining such big venues with original singer Paul Di’Anno, but Bruce Dickinson, who had fronted the band for three studio albums at this point, had the voice and the presence to deliver Maiden’s metal to the largest venues imaginable (and they still play to enormous crowds today, particularly overseas).

27. The Rolling Stones – ‘Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out’ (1970)

This album, recorded in 1969, came at a particularly great era for the Stones; Mick Taylor had just replaced Brian Jones a few months before, tightening up the band’s live sound. This was also the last tour before they started adding extra musicians: you’re just hearing Taylor, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts and longtime touring pianist Ian Stewart. The classic version of “Midnight Rambler” comes from this album.

26. Otis Redding – ‘Live In Europe’ (1967)

Redding was one of the greatest singers in the world in the late ‘60s, and on this album, he was backed by one of the greatest bands: Booker T & The MGs. Together, they were a force of nature. Highlights included “Respect” (Otis sang it before Aretha), his cover of the Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and the Beatles’ “Day Tripper.”

25. The Yardbirds – ‘Five Live Yardbirds’ (1964)

This also happens to be the Yardbirds’ debut album; their lead guitarist at the time was a young Eric Clapton who quickly outgrew the band but his playing here holds up to nearly anything he’s done since.

24. Pearl Jam – ‘October 31st, 2009 – The Spectrum, Philadelphia’ (2009)

There are so many Pearl Jam performances to choose from, as they’ve released authorized bootlegs of all of their shows for more than ten years. But this show had a special energy to it: it was the last concert ever at Philadelphia’s Spectrum, it was on Halloween, it was across the highway from a New York Yankees/Philadelphia Phillies World Series game, and it was the longest show the band had ever played at that point. It featured, among other surprises, their first performance of “Bugs,” and the rarely performed “Out Of My Mind” and “Sweet Lew.” Not to mention a cover of “Whip It” in full Devo costumes.

23. David Bowie – ‘Live Santa Monica ‘72’ (2008)

Originally available as a bootleg, it was later legitimately released, and some may prefer ‘Ziggy Stardust: The Motion Picture’ from this same tour. But the Santa Monica show was recorded months earlier, when Bowie was still all-in with the ‘Ziggy Stardust’ persona and has a bit more intensity and less weariness. The band, led by guitarist Mick Ronson, was in top form.

22. AC/DC – ‘If You Want Blood, You’ve Got It’ (1978)

Of course, AC/DC’s biggest success came with singer Brian Johnson, but as a live band, they were at their best when the late Bon Scott gripped the mic. As the late Malcolm Young once said about the album, “We were young, fresh, vital and kicking ass."

21. Nirvana – ‘Live At Reading’ (2009)

This is the 1992 show where Kurt Cobain was rolled onto the stage in a wheelchair while wearing a hospital gown. He, and the band, were still having fun with their success, even as they questioned it. They were on top of the world thanks to the meteoric success of ‘Nevermind,’ and they played most of that album. Cobain gave a shoutout to his 12-day old daughter and led the audience in chanting, “Courtney, we love you!” The performances were furious and proved why Nirvana was the band that everyone was watching, and listening to, in ‘92.

20. Talking Heads – ‘Stop Making Sense’ (1984)

Stop Making Sense’ is generally regarded as one of the greatest concert films ever, but even divorced of the visuals, the live album is a classic. Talking Heads made great records, but these live versions of “Girlfriend Is Better” and “Life During Wartime” top the originals.

19. Johnny Cash – ‘At Folsom Prison’ (1968)

The line, “I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die” might get a rise out of a lot of audiences. But when Johnny Cash sang it for an audience of inmates at Folsom Prison, it obviously took on a new meaning; some of the faces looking back at Cash may actually have done just that, and they were paying the price. Cash sings some of his heaviest numbers, including “25 Minutes To Go” and “Dark As A Dungeon,” but maintained his sense of humor in his in-between song banter, and also on “Busted.”

18. Elton John – ‘11-17-70’ (1971)

Elton John himself has cited this as his best live recording. The album title commemorates the date that it was recorded, and on November 17, 1970, he wasn’t yet a star. It’s hard to imagine these days, but in 1970, Elton John was an up-and-coming artist with something to prove, and he played like his life depended on it. He hadn’t yet added guitarist Davey Johnstone to his band; back then, it was just the trio of him, bassist Dee Murray and drummer Nigel Olsson. Legend has it that Elton cut his hand during the show, and by the time it was over, the piano keys were covered with blood. And it sounds like it.

17. Bob Dylan – ‘The Bootleg Series Vol. 4: Live 1966, ‘The Royal Albert Hall’ Concert’ (1998)

‘The Royal Albert Hall’ is in quotes because (as most Dylan fans know) this concert t was actually recorded at the Manchester Free Trade Hall during Dylan's world tour in 1966, but the much-bootlegged show was often falsely attributed to the Royal Albert Hall on the illicit recordings. The show is legendary for its second set, which featured an electric rock band, much to the horror of Dylan’s folkie fans. The acoustic songs are great -- Dylan was a master solo performer, even though he was losing interest -- but the electric set was Dylan as his most defiant; it’s almost punk rock at points.

16. Cheap Trick – ‘At Budokan’ (1979)

Sure, Cheap Trick’s first three albums were great, but when you want to hear “Surrender” or “Hello There” or “Big Eyes” or “I Want You To Want Me,” you’re gonna reach for your ‘At Budokan’ LP. Like some of the other live albums on this list, it took the band from the trenches and made them stars.

15. Bruce Springsteen – ‘Hammersmith Odeon, London ‘75’ (2006)

When Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band hit Europe on their ‘Born To Run’ tour, the hype was so overwhelming that there was a certain skepticism from the audience, and even Springsteen was annoyed with his record label. But this show, recorded on November 18, 1975 launched him as a major star in Europe; he remains incredibly popular there to this day.

14. Deep Purple – ‘Made In Japan’ (1973)

Like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple took their muscular blues-based compositions to different places in concert via their improvisational jams. Singer Ian Gillan really shines here, particularly on “Child In Time” (possibly his finest moment). This album is one of the blueprints for live heavy metal for decades to come.

13. U2 – ‘Under A Blood Red Sky’ (1983)

Once upon a time, U2 were a post-punk band who wore their hearts on their sleeves; they were trying to take over the world, they hadn’t yet discovered sarcasm, they still thought mullets were cool and they didn’t bother with stage production of any kind. ‘Under A Blood Red Sky’ caught them towards the end of the era before they were huge rock stars, but were intent on stepping into the shoes of the Who and the Clash.

12. Aretha Franklin – ‘Live At Fillmore West’ (1971)

A great singer can sing anything; Franklin was one of the greatest (maybe *the* greatest) and so when she hit the storied rock venue the Fillmore West, she had some appropriate covers in her set: the Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby,” Stephen Stills’ “Love The One You’re With” and Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” Those interpretations held up to her own repertoire, which included “Respect” and “Dr. Feelgood.” Bonus: Ray Charles shows up for “Spirit In The Dark.”

11. Motorhead – ‘No Sleep ‘Til Hammersmith’ (1981)

Released at the peak of Motorhead’s career, it follows their ‘Overkill,’ ‘Bomber’ and ‘Ace of Spades’ albums - records that had impossibly fast jams. And, crazily enough, they got even faster on ‘No Sleep.’ Motorhead released a lot of live albums, but this is the best of them.

10. Bob Marley & The Wailers – ‘Live!’ (1975)

The studio version of “No Woman No Cry” from 1974’s ‘Natty Dread’ was lovely, but the live version, taken from this album, is the definitive one. How did reggae cross over from Jamaica to huge audiences in America? ‘Live!’ had a lot to do with it.

9. Peter Frampton – ‘Frampton Comes Alive’ (1976)

By 1975 when this album was recorded, former Humble Pie singer/guitarist Peter Frampton had released four solo albums, none of which made much impact. But, true to the album’s title, some of the songs came alive in concert; ‘Frampton Comes Alive!’ topped the album charts and was the best selling album of 1976, making Frampton a huge star.

8. Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band – ‘Live Bullet’ (1976)

Seger tells the audience during the second concert taped for this album, “As I told everybody last night, I was reading in Rolling Stone where they said, ‘Detroit audiences are the greatest rock & roll audiences in the world.’ I thought to myself, ‘S---! I've known that for ten years!’” That audience may well have inspired the performances here, which are now iconic. In 1975, when the album was recorded, Seger was huge in the Motor City, but soon after the release of this album, he became one of America’s biggest rock stars.

7. KISS – ‘Alive’ (1975)

“You wanted the best? You got the best! The hottest band in the world: KISS!” That quote, which opens every KISS concert to this day, has become something of a cliche in recent decades. But in 1975, it was actually true. And even though a lot of post-production tightened up the live album, it captures the excitement of KISS’s live shows back when KISS weren’t yet a merchandising machine and they still had something to prove.

6. Santana – ‘The Woodstock Experience’ (2009)

Santana hadn’t yet released their debut album, but after their performance at the 1969 Woodstock festival, they were stars. Listen to this album and you’ll understand why. Even if their entire career ended here, they’d still be legendary. “Soul Sacrifice” is one of the greatest live performances ever.

5. The Allman Brothers Band – ‘At Fillmore East’ (1971)

Recorded at the Fillmore East in New York In March of 1971 the album was released in July of that same year, just three months before leader and guitarist Duane Allman’s tragic death. ‘At Fillmore East’ truly marked the end of an era, and saw one of rock’s greatest talents in peak form. The rest of the band were incredible as well -- particularly singer Gregg Allman. This is improvisational rock music at its finest.

4. James Brown – ‘Live At The Apollo, 1962’ (1963)

While Brown wouldn’t have considered himself “rock and roll,” he certainly made an impact on any rock and roll frontperson with his records and his live shows. Mick Jagger, Roger Daltrey, Steven Tyler and Bruce Springsteen all took note of Brown’s power as a live performer (and Springsteen surely noted the tight ship that Brown ran when it came to leading his band).

3. Jimi Hendrix – ‘Live At Monterey’ (1986)

Yes, this is the historic 1967 concert where he blew minds, torched his guitar and became a star in the U.S. (he was already popular in the U.K.). That context is useful, but even without it, this performance shows the Jimi Hendrix Experience at the top of their game. Hendrix made some iconic songs his own (“Like A Rolling Stone,” “Wild Thing” and of course, “Hey Joe”) and showed that his own material could hold up to those classics.

2. Led Zeppelin – ‘How The West Was Won’ (2003)

Better late than never: it took more than two decades after Led Zeppelin’s dissolution for the band to put out the definitive live document of their live prowess. Compiled from two 1972 shows, it showcases the band at the peak of their powers. Their shorter songs pack a mighty punch, but they also flex their improvisational muscles on extended versions of “Dazed And Confused” and “Whole Lotta Love.” And of course, their acoustic set (with “Going To California,” “That’s The Way” and “Bron-Y-Aur Stomp”) was gorgeous.

1.The Who – ‘Live At Leeds’ (1970)

The Who’s studio albums make up one of the greatest discographies in popular music, but none of them matched the raw power of ‘Live At Leeds.’ In recent years, the Who’s concerts have featured Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey with five other musicians, and sometimes, a full orchestra. Back then, they made more noise with just John Entwistle and Keith Moon. These days, you can buy an extended version of ‘Live At Leeds’ with 30+ songs. The original tracklist included just six: three covers (“Young Man Blues,” “Summertime Blues” and “Shakin’ All Over”) and three originals (“Substitute,” “Magic Bus” and a 14-minute long “My Generation”). And while we should be grateful for every last second that was captured for the full length, it was the original six-song version that inspired most of the hard rock and heavy metal bands of the ‘70s (and surely alienated some of the Who’s early-’60s mod fans).

The greatest live-music events are transporting experiences.

Whether their songs have been the soundtrack to your life or you just can’t help but bust a move when they play on the radio, many of music’s biggest acts are heading out on tour for 2023. You’ll spend the night in very good company as you see living legends of the music industry live, at these 10 top concerts set to tour the US in 2023.

Lizzo: The Special 2our

The three-time Grammy winner and recent Emmy recipient Lizzo returns to American stages in 2023 with the second leg of The Special 2our. The multi-hyphenate’s tour will make stops at 17 cities throughout North America , bringing all of Lizzo’s chart-topping hits including “Good as Hell,” “About Damn Time,” “Juice” and “Boys.” Expect an electric evening of female empowerment as Lizzo gets support from her troupe of “Big Grrrl” dancers, DJ Sophia Eris (who joins the star for a rousing rendition of Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop”), backup singers and an all-women band. No Lizzo concert would be complete without Sasha Flute, Lizzo’s prized woodwind, which she deploys several times each concert, including during “Truth Hurts” and “Juice.”

Where to get tickets: Tickets to see Lizzo live on tour are available through Ticketmaster .

Stevie Nicks and Billy Joel: Two Icons, One Night

Two of music’s most iconic living legends will share the bill for five rousing evenings of classic rock and soul at stadiums across the country. The Two Icons, One Night tour is a rare double bill of two legendary touring acts, Stevie Nicks and Billy Joel. The limited concert series will open March 10 at Los Angeles ’ SoFi Stadium, followed by one-nighters in Arlington, Texas ; Nashville ; Columbus; and a final evening in Kansas City , on August 19. Both musicians have continuously toured throughout the decades, with Nicks most recently wrapping up a sold-out tour in summer 2022, and Joel touring the world in addition to his record-breaking residency at New York City ’s Madison Square Garden .

Where to get tickets: Tickets to see the iconic duo are on sale now through Ticketmaster .

P!NK: Summer Carnival 2023

Buy a ticket to see P!NK in person, and you know the glam rock diva will soar – figuratively and literally. The singer/songwriter returns to the touring circuit with P!NK’s Summer Carnival 2023, an all-new stadium spectacular with musical guests Brandi Carlile, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo set to open on select dates, with Grouplove and KidCutUp performing at all shows. P!NK concerts offer a thrilling blend of her power vocals and cutting-edge stagecraft as the star can often be seen dangling upside over the crowd or crooning effortlessly from a trapeze swing. The pop legend’s tour arrives in US on July 26 in Cincinnati , followed by 20 performances across the country, concluding on October 9, 2023.

Where to get tickets: Tickets for P!NK’s upcoming Summer Carnival tour are available through Ticketmaster .

Adele performs onstage during the "Weekends with Adele" Residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Adele: Weekends with Adele at the Colosseum, Las Vegas

Adele’s new residency at the Colosseum is the hottest ticket in Las Vegas – and for good reason. The singer/songwriter is at the top of her game in a new production featuring her golden voice plus plenty of Vegas spectacle. The 20-song set list compiles her most popular hits, including a most appropriate opening of “Hello,” as well as such instant classics as “Rolling in the Deep,” “Set Fire to the Rain” and “Skyfall.” This residency is the rare chance to see the megawatt performer in a smaller venue – while there are 4000 seats, this is positively intimate compared to the large arenas she has played in the past.

Where to get tickets: The entire run of Weekends with Adele is sold out. If you’re looking to purchase tickets off a secondary market, make sure the secondary ticket vendor offers a 100% guarantee on your purchase to avoid scams.

Taylor Swift: Eras Tour

With Ticketmaster reporting “historically unprecedented demand,” Taylor Swift’s upcoming Eras Tour is one of the most sought-after concert tickets of just about any era. The highly anticipated 52-night stadium tour is the singer/songwriter’s return to the stage after her 2018 Reputation Tour was the highest-grossing of any in US history. Expect records to be shattered again, with tickets having sold out for the new tour in record time during the presale, alongside reports that demand “could have filled 900 stadiums.” Since Swift has released four albums since she last set out on the road, it’s anyone’s guess as to which songs will make the cut. Still, you can expect a lineup of megahits including “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” to be a part of the set list for certain.

Where to get tickets: Tickets on Ticketmaster were gone in a flash during the presale. Those seeking tickets through a secondary market should stick to a platform like StubHub and VividSeats that offers a 100% money-back guarantee in fraudulent scalping.

Usher performs at the grand opening of Usher: My Way - The Vegas Residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM on July 15, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada

Usher: My Way – The Vegas Residency

Legendary singer/songwriter Usher is one of the greatest R&B showmen of all time. So there’s no question that his latest Vegas residency spanning his remarkable 20-year music career will be a spectacle of epic proportions. Set to return to the Dolby Live theater at Park MGM for 25 new dates from March through July 2023, Usher’s show will offer a rousing set list including many of his hits, such as “My Way,” “OMG” and “Yeah!” The high-voltage evening features plenty of spectacle, including a supporting cast of 23 dancers, roller skaters and pole dancers.

Where to get tickets: Tickets and premium packages can be booked through Usher’s Vegas Residency website .

Dead & Company: The Final Tour

Spanning more than five decades as the quintessential jam band, Dead & Company will hit the road for one final foray last time this summer. The Dead & Co. ensemble – currently led by original Grateful Dead members Bobby Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, joined by Oteil Burbridge, Jeff Chimenti and John Mayer – has continued the long legacy of the Grateful Dead by touring for each of the past eight summers. This summer, their final tour will serve as a bittersweet farewell as the band hangs up their guitars and tie-dye after having played more than 2300 concerts as the Grateful Dead. Expect Deadhead groupies from all around the world to descend for many nights of peace, love and happiness.

Where to get tickets: Tickets for Dead & Company’s final tour are available through Ticketmaster .

Singer Marc Anthony performs onstage during the VIVIENDO Tour, Inglewood, California, USA

Marc Anthony: VIVIENDO Tour

Don’t expect to be sitting down for most of Marc Anthony’s wildly energetic VIVIENDO Tour, set to tour the US in 2023. The three-time Grammy and seven-time Latin Grammy winner Anthony delivers a high-energy spectacle, the kind that gets you dancing along from the first down beat. Chart-topping hits fill the set list, including “Pa’lla Voy,” “Vivir Mi Vida” and “Valió la Pena.”

Where to get tickets: Tickets for Marc Anthony’s VIVIENDO Tour are available through Ticketmaster .

Beyoncé: Renaissance Tour

While details have yet to be fully released, Beyoncé will be celebrating her new album Renaissance with a live tour. The pop megastar is truly the first lady of music, having won 28 Grammys – the most by any female artist. If previous tours are any indication, Beyoncé will be making stops at major stadiums throughout the US, bringing with her a larger-than-life spectacle with dozens of backup dancers, pyrotechnics and stunning stagecraft. Renaissance  was built with the dance floor in mind – so get ready for a party like no other.

Showtime Special: Top Tours of 2023

  • By: FOH Staff
  • January 2024 , Showtime
  • January 4, 2024

top tours july 2023 billboard

Revenues from the global concert touring business, reduced to a trickle due to the Covid pandemic in 2020 and 2021, came roaring back in 2022, with an even bigger surge in 2023. Total ticket sales from the top 100 tours, which reached a high of $5.6 billion in 2019, sank to $1.2 billion in 2020 and $1.7 billion in 2021, according to Pollstar , before chalking up a new record — $6.3 billion — in 2022. Then came 2023’s surge, to a total $9.2 billion. There were big gains in 2023 for the number of total tickets sold — from 59 to 70 million — and the average price per ticket rose as well, from $106 in 2022 to more than $130 in 2023, according to Pollstar’s stats.

The top 10 tours of 2023 played an outsized role in boosting those aggregate results for the top 100 tours, especially Taylor Swift’s 2023/2024 Eras tour, which continues to break all kinds of records for the artist named Time magazine’s Person of the Year. Average ticket sales for each of the 60 stadium shows performed so far topped $17 million, according to Pollstar’s estimates. That makes sales for the Eras trek not just the highest-grossing concert tour for 2023, but for all time, topping the $1 billion mark in total revenues within its first year. (And there are even more Eras shows planned for 2024 than there were in 2023).

Other tours did spectacularly well in 2023. Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour raked in $580 million, according to Pollstar , a sum well above what it would normally take to earn the top slot on the year-end charts — and even topping the record announced by Pollstar last year for Bad Bunny’s $435 million “World’s Hottest Tour” in 2022. With 56 shows in 39 cities, Pollstar also calculated Beyoncé’s average price per ticket at $209 — a per-ticket average exceeded only by Taylor Swift ($239) and Drake ($260) for their 2023 tours.

2023 treks for Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band and Coldplay both topped Beyoncé’s tour results in terms of the number of tickets sold, according to Pollstar , but with ticket prices a little below the industry average, those tours came in at number three and four, respectively. Rounding out our top 10 list, based on 2023 data published by both Pollstar and Billboard , were tours by Harry Styles, Morgan Wallen, Ed Sheeran, P!nk, Elton John and The Weeknd.

  • Drake | $184,926,733 million

Every available metric points to 2023 being a record-setting year for live concert events, with 2024 poised to carry on the momentum. Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen, Drake, and many more are continuing their tours throughout the world. The absence of live music events for two years in (2020/21) has been sorely felt as the world scrambles to see their favorite artists once again.

Why some major artists are suddenly canceling shows, and in some cases entire tours

A series of tour cancellations and changes by big-name artists has sparked questions about whether the post-pandemic live music boom could be cooling, as consumer spending fatigue meets elevated ticket prices.

On Friday, Jennifer Lopez announced she was canceling her 2024 tour , citing a desire to spend more time with her family. Meanwhile, the Black Keys announced they were abandoning a stadium tour in favor of a series of shows at smaller venues.

Both tours had recently become the subject of social media fodder, namely screenshots showing empty venues at select tour dates. (NBC News could could not directly verify their authenticity.)

Silhouettes of people enjoying a concert

Indeed, some of the evidence of a slowdown is anecdotal. SeatGeek said in an email that the average resale ticket price to attend a summer concert is down to $213 from $257 around this time last year. The company suggested some of the decline could be attributed to the absence of megatours on par with Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” and Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” outings last year.

For artists whose popularity has crescendoed, there appears to be plenty of demand — and high prices. The average resale price for Olivia Rodrigo’s “Guts” tour is $571, and the next-highest is $409 to see Morgan Wallen, according to SeatGeek data first reported by Axios .

Many of those tours are being sold through Ticketmaster and its parent Live Nation. And prior to facing landmark accusations that it is a monopoly , a claim it denies, Live Nation reported its biggest first quarter ever, with $3.8 billion in revenues. Its concerts business alone was up 26% to $2.9 billion, while “estimated fans” globally were up more than 20%, and up 42% in North America.

Yet official government data points to the makings of a return to a more normal pace for live music event sales after a post-pandemic boom. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported last month that movie and concert admissions prices climbed just 3.4% year over year through April, the lowest reading since 2021 and the second-consecutive month showing a slowdown.

Dave Clark, editor of Ticket News, which tracks the live entertainment industry, said the period of explosive live music growth following pandemic reopenings may in hindsight be seen as an aberration: People were simply more eager — and more financially able — to go to as many shows as they could after months cooped up indoors.

This year, Clark said, a reckoning may be emerging.

“The days where there was enough demand to sell out arenas at top dollar just isn’t there in this live events economy — outside of people like Taylor Swift who can sell whatever they want wherever they want,” he said.

At a time when many consumers are struggling to pay for basic necessities, he said, “people are seeing some of the prices they’re asking and just saying, ‘Hard pass.’”

Another factor may be a supply issue, Clark added: too many acts trying to tour at once, or too many times. In the pre-streaming era, bands would go on tour as a way of marketing an album. These days, he said, it’s reversed, since the returns on recorded music have shrunk dramatically.

“Now they’re making records to sell the tour,” he said. “That paradigm has a lot to do with it. It’s just a very overloaded market.”

The Black Keys did just release a new album, and its debut single hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart in March.

Still, the rock duo announced it would cancel and reschedule its summer touring plans, switching from arenas to other venues that provide a more “intimate experience,” according to the band. The new dates have not yet been announced.

The Black Keys aren’t the only group that may be falling victim to costly concert fatigue.

Pop-rock band 311 announced it had canceled upcoming European tour dates due to the “rising costs of touring overseas,” which made completing certain portions of the tour “unfeasible.”

Other stars including Pink and Justin Timberlake have also recently canceled specific show dates, while the Jonas Brothers recently postponed their upcoming European tour , though none officially cited financial concerns as reasons for doing so.

“I think with all that competition for fan dollars, it was obviously natural that some artists were going to lose,” said Bill Werde, director of the Syracuse University Bandier Program for Recording and Entertainment Industries.

There are still plenty of large-scale tours planned for this summer that, so far, appear to be unaffected by flagging demand. Hootie & the Blowfish have 48 dates booked this year, while Dave Matthews Band is slated for 34. Other top acts hitting the road include Maroon 5, Zac Brown Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kenny Chesney and Chris Stapleton.

But experts say recent economic trends in the live-music industry, especially the type of consolidation the Justice Department is now targeting, have translated into fewer smaller-sized venues.

That’s made it more difficult for a given tour date to make financial sense for the artist, venue and promoter.

“Some shows, they can’t afford to drop prices; they can’t afford to wait to try to sell out the rest of the building,” Clark said.

If there is uncertainty about all stakeholders being able to at least break even, he said, the show might get canceled.

Such realities have collided with a more circumspect concertgoer. Brittney D’Mello, a 23-year-old K-pop fan from New Jersey who works in corporate marketing, posted to X about her frustrations with the current touring landscape.

“The tickets are too expensive,” D’Mello said. “There’s only a SMALL amount of people (10%) that will spend $500+ on vip/floor/premium,” she said. “The rest of us have budgets and won’t spend $100 on nosebleeds,” she said, referring to seats that are typically the farthest away from the stage.

“Everyone is touring this year … and we only have money for 2-3 concerts MAX,” she added.

In a follow-up interview with NBC News, D’Mello said she simply decided to cap her concert budget.

“I will only go see two artists that are my tried-and-true favorite artists,” she said. “But I won’t be casually going to concerts anymore. And after going to concerts twice, I think that’s where I stop.”

The event at the cn tower on sunday, june 2, brought many of canadian music's most influential people to celebrate an industry making waves on a global scale..

The music industry came out in full force to celebrate the first Power Players event in Canada on Sunday, June 2 high above Toronto at the CN Tower. It was a glamorous and lively night that was an early highlight of Canadian Music Week.

The event gathered the powerful executives who made Billboard Canada's Power Players list , and many other Canadian music culture makers and influential people. A packed room gathered to sip cocktails, dance to tunes by DJs DevoDLive and Manni Dogra (who spun a surprise set of Punjabi music for the audience) and chat about the global influence of the country's artists and industry members. Photographers were busy capturing all the looks on the red carpet.

Guests included Paul Shaver of CMRRA, President & CEO of FACTOR Meg Symsyk, Erik Hoffman of Live Nation, Paquin Entertainment Group Founder Gilles Paquin, Punjabi music star Gurinder Gill, producer and label executive Ikky, creator Director X, copyright law leader Casey Chisick, Jess Huddleston and JD Parent of Spotify Canada, John Murphy of Amazon Music Canada, Mike Lawless of Apple Music, Michelle Mearns of SiriusXM, Margaret McGuffin of Music Publishers Canada, Amy Jeninga of the CCMA, Kieran Roy of Arts & Crafts, Julien Paquin of Paquin Artists Agency, Stéphane McGarry of Tixr and many more.

Read on to see more special guests and highlights from their speeches.

Billboard's Chief Brand Officer Dana Droppo got the evening started by congratulating the successful people in the room, from agents to promoters, publishers, founders and creators. They're all global executives, she said, because music is more interconnected than ever. That carries to Billboard Canada's editorial team, which launched its first digital cover story last October and without which an event like Power Players couldn't happen.

"Our team in Canada is an award-winning journalistic team that wants to tell your stories," she said. "They want to know when you sign a client, they want to know when your client drops a release, they want to know when you announce a tour, and they want to know when you are proud of something. It is so, so vital for us to have a thriving cultural, journalistic platform like Billboard in Canada."

Billboard Canada CEO Amanda Dorenberg recognized the Power Players list as an extension of the strength of Canada, whose big players are punching above their weight on a global stage.

"The Power Players list is really a testament to the dedication, the passion, the innovation and the transformation that we as Canadians have built," she said, before welcoming Live Nation Canada Chairman Riley O’Connor to present the first award recipient of the night to the No. 1 Power Player and Billboard Canada cover star , Live Nation's Chairman of Global Music & President of Global Touring, Arthur Fogel.

"In my career, I've watched so many talented people in our business excelling in Canada and internationally, not to mention all the great artists who have come from this country and certainly continue to do so," said Fogel, thanking his wife and five children who travelled to be there with him to accept the award.

In L.A. where he works, it's a badge of honour to be Canadian, he said. He noted that many of the Canadians he came up with in the live industry are now in major positions around the world, including many, like AEG Executive Vice President of Global Touring Debra Rathwell, who were in the room at that moment.

Mo Ghoneim, President of Billboard Canada, introduced Panos Panay, President of the Grammys and Recording Academy to the stage. Panay told the story of growing up in Cyprus but learning English while spending a few years in Fredericton, New Brunswick — and sparking a love of music from watching Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future . "For me, artists are the social glue that keeps us all together," he said. "Nobody represents that better than the collective cultural output of this country, whether it's Céline or Neil or Sarah or Drake or The Weeknd or Joni — let's face it, you guys are the music industry."

Kardinal Offishall, both an artist and Global A&R for Def Jam, gave a rousing speech that widened the scope from the top executives to the many hard-working artists and creators from all over the spectrum making Canadian music thrive.

"We always hear about the top 1%, but that's not just what makes Canada incredible," he said. "It is a lot of those artists that are fighting their way to get into that percentile, and some of them are just fighting to survive, to pay their rent...It's a very pivotal time in the industry. It is volatile, and none of us — CEOs, Presidents — nobody is guaranteed next week let alone next year." Being able to work in a field you're passionate at all, let alone at the top of the music industry, is a "supreme blessing," he concluded.

Canadian Music Week founder and Power Lister Neill Dixon presented the Impact Award to Gary Slaight just one night before announcing his retirement , while noting the tireless philanthropy work of the Slaight Foundation.

Slaight thanked Billboard Canada for incorporating the industry newsletter FYI — now Billboard Canada FYI — in "such a thoughtful manner" and got the chatty room to hush for a moment of silence for late Toronto broadcaster Bob Mackowycz .

Not just a night for the Power Players, the event also served as a launchpad for the new Billboard Canada Non-Performing Songwriter Award, which was presented by SOCAN CEO Jennifer Brown (also on the Power Players list) and Vice President, Creative and Member Relations, Cameron Kennedy to songwriter Lowell . She took a moment to shine a light on the people behind the scenes who also make the industry thrive yet rarely get the same recognition.

"It's really nice that you guys are giving me a little pat on the back," she said in an entertaining speech. "I'm going to take this on behalf of all of my amazing songwriter friends that have not gotten that pat on the back, yet . "

Alexisonfire

The St. Catharines, Ontario band are bringing the festival back this summer, and they'll release LIVE Born & Raised 2022, St Catharines ON just in time for fans to hear it first.

After a two year hiatus, Alexisonfire are resurrecting their hometown festival Born & Raised on July 5 and 6 at Montebello Park in St. Catharines, Ontario. Just in time, they're releasing a live album from the last time they held the festival, in 2022.

The album, LIVE Born & Raised 2022, St Catharines ON , captures their career-spanning set from the inaugural edition of the festival. In front of their hometown fans, they played songs from throughout their more-than-two-decades long career.

Fittingly, the first single, "Little Girls Pointing and Laughing," is the very first song Alexisonfire wrote as a band 22 years ago. Originally recorded for their 2002 self-titled debut, the live rendition is performed just steps from where they first conceived of it. It perfectly captures the vocal interplay between George Pettit's guttural scream and Dallas Green's more honeyed emo-folk singing, as well as occasionally chugging hardcore guitars and an epic song structure that feels like a journey.

The album also includes a rarity: the first-ever live performance of the song "Jubella," also from their debut.

The album is for sale digitally on June 27 here and available for pre-order on vinyl here .

“St. Catharines was a perfect breeding ground for young independent bands," says Alexisonfire's George Pettit. "There was no shortage of venues where you could play or promote a show. So in the early 2000s, Alexisonfire learned a lot of what we needed to know coming up in St. Catharines. Coming back and playing a massive festival in Montebello Park was not only fun but served as an opportunity to give something back to the city that taught us how to be a band.”

This year's Born & Raised festival features Alexisonfire and member Dallas Green's other successful singer-songwriter project City and Colour. It also features an eclectic lineup of both Canadian bands, including Metric, Sloan and Dooms Children and heavier pop-punk and hardcore bands The Used, Counterparts and Ekkstacy.

Alexisonfire's longtime manager and owner of their label Dine Alone was recognized on Billboard Canada's recent 2024 Power Players list , with a shoutout for his role in the return of Born & Raised.
