A ā€˜day in the lifeā€™ of a commentator

Take the popular MCG tour to the next level with a peak behind-the-curtain in the Ron Casey Media Centre and explore the commentary boxes. Your guests can sit in the very same seats where renowned commentators Ritchie Benaud, Bill Lawry, Bruce McAvaney and Dennis Cometti called all the action.

Award-winning Australian commentator Anthony ‘Huddo’ Hudson  will explain what itā€™s like to put words to sportā€™s biggest moments ā€“ and guests can even try their own hand at the big call!

Yarra Park forage

A bush food experience and a ā€˜garden to plateā€™ appreciation of Victoriaā€™s native plants.

Walk with an Aboriginal guide and learn about the cultural connection to native plants and how they have sustained Aboriginal people for thousands of years, notably through food.

Ancestors of the Kulin Nations gathered, met and inhabited these unceded lands long before Melbourne was founded in 1835. Yarra Park has a significant Indigenous history, noted for both its landscape and sporting heritage dating back to the 1850ā€™s.

Paint the Gā€™

The Melbourne Cricket Club has been collecting and displaying artworks at the MCG for close to a hundred years. The most well-known artworks are the portraits of former Club Secretaries and Presidents; and the large-scale installations on level 2 of the Memberā€™s Pavilion – the MCG Anniversary tapestry and MCC Anniversary bronze doors.

There are also a variety of photographs of the MCG on display, capturing the ground at different stages of development. There are approximately 1500 artworks in storage at any time, allowing for a rotation of content. Archived artworks are securely stored in a temperature and humidity-controlled environment and are cared for by a team of specialist museum curators.

For the artist within, we have developed a ā€˜Cork and Canvasā€™ style event available for groups of any size to capture the MCG, Yarra Park and surrounds. We supply the canvas, art materials and the catering, with our artist in resident tutoring the group, providing expert guidance. An art tour of the artwork and installations is included in this session.

A step back in time

The Melbourne Cricket Club Library was founded in 1873 and is a cornerstone of the clubā€™s commitment to its heritage activities. A facility for reference and research, it is available for MCC Members and their guests to browse the collection and use the resources during opening hours.

On non-match days, it is also open to the general public by appointment. Covering the sports played by the MCC and at the MCG, the fascinating collection focuses on cricket, Australian football and the Olympic Games, with substantial holdings of memorabilia in a number of other sports.
