FFXIV: What is an Airship Pass & How Do You Get One?

Airship flying to the Gold Saucer in FFXIV

The Airship Pass is a key item in Final Fantasy XIV that allows you to travel between major cities. It’s acquired as part of your level 15 Main Scenario Quest, early on in your adventure.

XIV is full of rich, vibrant cities with lots to offer. New jobs, new friends, players in extremely questionable glamours.

You’ll start out in one, depending on which job you choose.

But eventually the time will come to spread your wings and travel the world, leaving your starting zone behind for new, more profitable adventures.

If you’ve been playing XIV a little while then you might question the need for airships, seeing as everyone seems perfectly happy to teleport around using Aetheryte crystals.

I’d go so far as to say that 95% of players use the airship system exactly once .

After that, they’ve attuned to all the major Aetheryte chunks in the cities and can simply use that to go back and forth.

How Do I Get An Airship Pass?

Regardless of which city you begin your journey in, you’ll get a quest at level 15 that provides access to the other. “The Lominsan Envoy”, “The Gridanian Envoy”, and the “Ul’dahn Envoy” are all the same quest, basically.

It’s important to note that unlocking the Airship Pass is tied to your story progression and not your job level alone.

So you’ll need a level 15 character to access the quest.

But unless you’re up to date on the MSQ, you won’t be able to access it.

It’s really easy to get sidetracked with everything XIV throws in your face.

Sidequests, leves, crafting and gathering.

I’d say that at least getting to the point of unlocking the Airship Pass and gaining access to the other two cities should be a pretty high priority for anyone, though.

Once you’ve completed the quest chain that leads to the other two hub cities, your options become so much wider.

You can meet more people, unlock a huge range of both combat and crafting/gathering jobs, and unlock more dungeons to battle through.

I know quite a few players who’ve gotten to level 20 without ever stepping foot beyond their starting city.

It’s completely possible to outlevel the Envoy quest in no time at all.

So you can do it – but that doesn’t mean you should .

Broaden those horizons!

XIV has much more to offer than your first city leads you to believe.

Unless it’s Limsa Lominsa . In which case you wanna get out before you get roped into unsavory roleplay. It happens to everyone eventually.

What’s The Deal With Free Company Airships?

Free Companies (player-run organizations, akin to guilds ) can eventually build their own airships.

However, these cannot be used for travel.

They’re for a separate gameplay feature that allows Free Companies to dispatch airships and submarines on voyages, similar to Retainer Ventures.

It’d be pretty cool to travel from place to place on an airship of your own design. But as previously mentioned, that travel system falls by the wayside once all the central Aetherytes are unlocked.

What’s The Golden Airship Ticket For?

Upon completing your Envoy quest and unlocking airship travel, you’ll have the opportunity to talk to a “Well-heeled Youth” in Ul’dah.

He’ll present you with a Golden Airship Ticket.

This can be used to gain access to the Manderville Gold Saucer , which is XIV’s arcade mode, essentially – you can play the lottery, race Chocobos, and take part in mini-games for prizes.

Luckily you just need the one Golden Airship Ticket.

Once you’ve traveled to the Gold Saucer you can attune to the Aetheryte there, or take a regular airship to it if you prefer.

FFXIV: How to get the Airship Pass

Image of Joey Carr

During the early stages of Final Fantasy 14 , you’ll have to travel on foot or by Aetheryte to most destinations. This isn’t a huge hassle, as you’ll mostly be traveling through the region you started in at level one. But eventually, you’ll have to travel to a different region, and the best way to get there is with an Airship Pass.

The Airship Pass allows you to travel to a plethora of new locations across Eorzea. While you can always use Aetheryte crystals to travel to a new city once you get there, you initially need the Airship Pass to get to a different region in the first place. So, you need to know how to get one so you can travel freely in FFXIV .

Getting the Airship Pass in FFXIV

An Airship flying in FFXIV

You can’t acquire the Airship Pass in FFXIV until you reach level 15 . At this point, you can receive a new quest, called “The _ Envoy.” The middle word in the quest’s name will either be “Lominsan,” “Gridanian,” or “Ul’Dahn,” depending on the city you started the game in.

But simply reaching level 15 isn’t enough to unlock the Airship Pass and the quest that gives it to you. You also have to reach a certain point in the story to unlock the necessary quest. As any seasoned FFXIV player will tell you, going through the MSQ in the early game is one of the best ways to level up, so you want to ensure you’re completing as many story missions as possible to access the Airship Pass as soon as you reach level 15.

If you’re at level 15 and still don’t have the “Envoy” quest, you need to complete MSQ missions until the quest becomes available in your journal. More specifically, you need to complete the “Adventurer’s Guild” quest that initially becomes available at level 14. After you complete that quest, the next one you receive gives you access to the Airship Pass in FFXIV .

Once you have the Airship Pass, you can use the Airship to travel to and from the major cities in FFXIV . Of course, using the Aetheryte system is often easier once you’re attuned to all the cities in the game.

As you’re working to level up and unlock the Airship, you could also take advantage of the dye system in FFXIV , which allows you to completely change the color of your armor.

FFXIV Airship Pass: What is it & How to get one?

  • Posted by by Anukul Saini

It’s the Airship Pass, a key item in Final Fantasy XIV that allows you to travel between cities. It’s available as part of the fifteenth level Main Scenario Quest, early in your journey.

XIV is packed with lively and vibrant cities that have plenty to provide. Neue jobs brand new friendships and players who have uncertain, glamorous settings.

Based on the job you pick, the first job you’ll be in is one of them.

However, eventually, the time will come for you to take off and explore the globe, leaving your current location in search of exciting, new, and more lucrative adventures.

If you’ve played XIV for a while you may be questioning the need for airships since everyone seems content to travel around with Aetheryte crystals.

I’d even go as far as to say that 95percent of people utilize this airship feature  only at least once .

Then, they’ve been tuned into all the important Aetheryte chunks that are in the cities, and they can utilize that to move between the cities.

How do I get an Airship Pass?

What’s the deal with free company airships, what’s the golden airship ticket for, is the airship located that is in limsa lominsa, how can i travel to limsa lominsa western thanalan, how do i get to limsa, are you able to walk across the ul dah area from ul dah up to limsa lominsa, what is the airship’s pass in final fantasy xiv, how can i travel from gridania to limsa lominsa, what is the level at which you can get the airship pass, is it possible to travel to limsa lominsa without the airship pass.

No matter which city you start your journey from, you’ll receive the quest at level 15, which grants access to the different “The Dominican Envoy”, “The Gridanian Envoy”, and “Ul’dahn Envoy”, which are all identical quests.

It is important to remember that the unlocking of the Airship Pass is tied to your story’s progress, not just your level of employment.

You’ll  require  an account with a 15-level character to get access to the quest.

However, if you’re not up to date on the MSQ and MSQ, you’ll be unable to gain access to them.

It’s very easy to become distracted by all the things FFXIV throws up in your face.

Sidequests, leaves, collecting, and crafting.

I’d suggest that at the very least, getting to the stage of getting access to Airship Pass and gaining access to the two other cities is a top priority for anyone, however.

Once you’ve completed your quest line that leads to the two other city hubs, the choices are now much more extensive.

You’ll be able to meet more people and unlock a wide range of combat, crafting/gathering jobs, and gain access to more dungeons to fight through.

I’ve known several players who have reached level 20 and never set foot on the other side of their city.

It’s entirely possible to beat the Envoy quest in no time.

You  can  take it on-but that doesn’t mean that you  must .

Widen your perspectives!

There is more to XIV to offer than your first impression of the city suggests.

Unless it’s Limsa Lominsa. If so, it’s best to quit before getting trapped in unsavory gameplay. It happens to everyone at some point.

Airship Pass

Free Companies (player-run organizations run by players, like guilds) could eventually construct the airships of their choice.

However, they  are not able to  be used to travel.

They’re a separate game mode that permits free companies to dispatch airships and submarines for voyages like Retainer Ventures.

It would be quite cool to fly from location to location in an airship that you designed yourself.

However, as we’ve mentioned before, the travel system will fall out of the picture after all the central Aetherytes are deactivated.

When you’ve completed the Envoy quest and gotten airship travel on your own, you’ll be able to speak to the “well-heeled youth” in Utah.

He’ll give you the Golden Airship Ticket.

It is possible to unlock access to the Manderville Gold Saucer , which is the arcade mode of XIV, basically; you can take part in the lottery or race Chocobos, as well as participate in mini-games to win rewards.

Luckily, all you need is one golden airship ticket.

Once you’ve made it to the gold saucer, you can tune into it using the Aetheryte at the same time, or attach an airship of any type to it if you’d like.

Airship Landing (Limsa Lominsa)

It is connected to the city of Central Thanalan by the east ferry service at Vesper Bay, leading to the city-state of Limsa Lominsa.

Access to Ul’dah is via the Gate of the Sultana. A pathway that leads towards the Goblet is located just to the southwest of GateWeather.

To travel from Gridania to Lominsa, you’ll need the Airship Pass. The ferry service will not reach passengers until you’ve reached this moment in the story.

The quest that earns you access to the airship is an unlocked level 15 quest (not your character’s quest level) named “The Gridanian Envoy.”

You can’t. The ferry is closed.

Therefore, you are not able to reach the island. It is only possible to travel to Ul’dah into Grandia and reverse.

Airship Pass is a key item in Final Fantasy XIV that allows players to travel between major cities. It’s obtained in the course of your Level 15 Main Scenario Quest, early in your journey.

The game is full of vibrant, vibrant cities that have plenty to provide. Neue jobs, brand new friendships, and players with a lot of uncertain glamour .

Gridania from Limsa Lominsa ||| Airship Pass To travel from Gridania to Lominsa, you’ll need the Airship Pass. The ferry will not be able to arrive until you reach this stage in the story.

The quest that grants you access to the airship is a quest of level 15 (not your character’s level, but the quest level) known as “The Gridanian Envoy.”

The quest that grants you an airship pass is a quest at level 15 (not your character’s quest level) known as “The Gridanian Envoy.”

It’s one of the quests in the primary storyline in the Seventh Umbral Era. Once you’ve completed the “To Guard a Guardian” challenge (the 25th quest), the rest are short tasks in Gridania.

There isn’t a way to travel to Limsa Lominsa without the airship pass. I think you could use the teleports to houses in La Noscea (FC, which is also a shared estate) without visiting the area.

It would be interesting to hear from someone who has tried this. You need to be logged in to comment.

FFXIV Airship Guide  by BonzaiFerroni

Introduction

The purpose of this guide is to promote the fine activity of Airshipping and to spur discussion on all the details that still remain a mystery. Consider the state of this guide to be “incomplete”, although there will be plenty of updates as others add their observations and we learn more! If you are making your own guide feel free to use any or all of the information here if it helps. If you do, please credit the Swiftsong FC of Pheonix, the finest team of airship enthusiasts I know -_-7

Unsolved Mysteries

I’m putting this section first because I’m just as greedy for more information as you are. If you have information on any of these details, please reply! I will update the guide as we learn more o/

Rank 20 → 22, sectors 2 → 5 → 7 → 8, unlocked Rank 22 → 24, unlocked Rank 22 → 23, solo trip to sector 8, enterprise rigging and all other parts invincible, unlocked! (Thanks Seravi!) Rank 25, still not unlocked Rank 22, still not unlocked Rank 19 → 22, full invincible parts, stats are all at 80, still not unlocked (Thanks Inzoum!) Rank 25, sectors 1 through 9 visited, still not unlocked (Thanks Tatsuo!)
  • What does the Favor stat influence?
  • What conditions are necessary to unlock sectors? We have some people who are rank 10-12 and still have not unlocked sectors that are below their rank. Is this a stats issue, is it an issue of luck? Report your findings!
  • What items can be obtained from sector ______? This will be an ongoing question, as more sectors are discovered, so please share your reports. It seems some items are a higher tier, indicated by whether it says it is High-quality in the flight log. When you give your report, if you can include that information, that would help a lot!
  • Where did all my coke go?

Think of this section as the TL;DR of the guide. I’m also adding helpful tips from the community!

  • If you just got your workshop and you are brand-new to airships in general, there is an super-handy guide by Z’an Tia of Midgardsormr! You’ll find a helpful FAQ and a complete list of parts for each component.
  • When building airship parts, don’t worry too much about using HQ mats. It has no influence on the “quality” rating for each phase. The only benefit to using HQ mats is the exp bonus for making them and turning them in.
  • Even though it is fairly easy to get plans for enterprise-type parts early on, I don’t recommend skipping the invincible parts entirely. It is a long road to rank 15 on just bronco parts! Even after you get to 15, you won’t be able to upgrade all four parts at once, there won’t be enough capacity.
  • If you aren’t sure which parts to upgrade first, consider upgrading your aftcastle (+retrieval). This part offers the biggest increase to EXP by boosting your extraction ratings. Although the forecastle is a tempting upgrade stats-wise, it will not offer an EXP boost.

You might be interested to know that materials such as balsa or bambo can be traded. Even if they aren’t listed on the mb you can still obtain some from another player; if you know someone that has spare/is willing to sell them.

Airship Stats and Upgrade Recommendations

  • Surveillance: Influences the probability of gathering a 2nd item per sector. May also influence the probability of finding new sectors.
  • Retrieval: Increases item extraction rating (higher quantities of a specific item, better EXP bonus).
  • Speed: Influences voyage duration.
  • Range: Allows you to visit more sectors per voyage.
  • Favor: ??? (Speculation: Probability of HQ, Influences weather conditions encountered)

The above descriptions represent the current best guess for what each of the stats contribute. If you have your own speculation that you can support with observations, please share! Speed and Range seem pretty straightforward, and I will share my rationale for Surveillance and Retrieval in a reply. The following are your upgrade options and guidelines for how to prioritize:

  • Hull (+14 Range, -4 Favor): In some cases, you will be able to reach more sectors. Think of it as a general bonus to EXP and Items that increases in tiers as you unlock new sectors.
  • Rigging (+14 Speed, -4 Retreival, -4 Range): Better speed means more voyages in the same amount of time.. This is a more linear increase in EXP and items, but the bonus to exp is mitigated by decreasing the other two stats that influence EXP.
  • Forecastle (+14 Surveillance, +14 Favor): Better surveillance gives you a better chance of finding a 2nd item for each sector. However, finding a 2nd item does not seem important for increasing your overall rating bonus to EXP. It makes sense to upgrade this if your biggest barrier is a lack of materials available to build new parts.
  • Aftcastle (+14 Retrieval, -4 Surveillance, -4 Speed): This part seems the most important for improving your overall EXP by improving your rating bonus. It makes sense to upgrade this first if your biggest barrier is rank/airframe capacity.

For stats information on individual parts and a list of the materials necessary to craft them, Z’an Tia of Midgardsormr has that covered !

Items according to sector

The following is a very rough list of items that you can gather in each sector. Consider it far from comprehensive at this stage. I’ve started it using our own notes, but please contribute your own findings. It seems some items are a higher tier, indicated by whether it says it is High-quality in the flight log. When you give your report, if you can include that information, that would help a lot! Items that are a high-quality tier are bolded .

  • Sector 1: Rank 1 – Wind crystals; Lightning crystals; Bamboo; Vivianite ; Vitality Materia III; Ferberite; Dexterity III
  • Sector 2: Rank 1 – Fire crystals; Vivianite ; Bamboo; Quicktongue III; Gold Ore
  • Sector 3: Rank 4 – Red Moko Grass; Balsa Wood Scraps; Craftsman Competence III; Battledance III
  • Sector 4: Rank 7 – Water crystals; Red Moko Grass; Balsa wood lumber Scraps; Fine Alumen; Scarlet Sap; Gatherer’s Grasp III materia; Gatherer’s Grasp II
  • Sector 5: Rank 10 – Lightning crystals; Wind crystals; Empty crystals; Deep Red Crystals ; Birch Branch; Vitality III; Savage Might III
  • Sector 6: Rank 14 – Deep Green Crystals ; Empty Crystals; Dark Chestnut Branch; Piety III
  • Sector 7: Rank 17 – Ferberite; Deep Blue Crystal ; Red Clay; Raw Celestine
  • Sector 11: Rank 30 – ???

Interpreting the voyage log

Reading the voyage log is a great way to know which component to upgrade next. At the top you will find your rating, your base EXP, and your EXP bonus. You will also see the items gathered during the voyage. The Flight Log is the really interesting part. Each sector you will encounter 1-2 “nodes” that your airship will extract items from. The pattern will look like this (I’ve added notes):

Sea of Clouds – Sector 06 reached. Commencing Survey. Experiencing high winds. Airship surveillance levels unaffected, but exploratory capability may be slightly hindered. This seems to influence your “surveillance level”, which influences whether you can gather items. Possible conditions: -None = No penalty. -High winds = Slightly hindered. -Turbulence = Significantly hindered.

High-quality deep green crystals discovered. Commencing extraction.

Some items appear to be more rare than others. This line tells you whether that is the case. The chances may be influenced by a specific stat (surveillance, favor). Possible conditions: _______________ discovered. High-quality _____________ discovered.

High retrieval levels results in above-average extraction yield.

Extraction results can be: Normal, High, Optimal, ???

3 deep green crystals retrieved! Additional anomalies detected. Continuing exploration.

If your surveillance level for a given sector remains sufficient, you will gather an additional item. If this is the case, the above log pattern will repeat.

Survey of Sea of Clouds – Sector 06 complete. SS Rubber Ducky performance rated as satisfactory.

Performance rating for a sector seems to be the average of extraction ratings. -Abysmal (normal): +0% exp -Substandard (normal-high) +50% exp -Satisfactory (high) +100% -Decent (high-optimal) +150% exp -???

Surveillance discussion

In the above guide, I proposed that Surveillance influences the probability that you will gather a 2nd item and retrieval influences your extraction rating. The biggest reason for believing this comes from the wording of the flight log. For each node that you encounter in a sector, you get a message reporting the weather conditions followed by the impact on surveillance level and exploratory capability.

-When there is no difficult weather, you receive a message like this: No wind or turbulence detected. 2 surveillance levels sufficient for exploration. -When you encounter difficult weather, you get a message like this: Experiencing high winds. Airship surveillance levels unaffected, but exploratory capability may be slightly hindered. -When you are not able to gather a 2nd item, you receive a message like this: Additional anomalies detected. However, airship condition found insufficient for further exploration.

The use of the word “surveillance” in these descriptions suggests that the stat plays a role. Considering all of those messages together, it sounds like your surveillance level is sort of like the HP of your airship. When you encounter winds or turbulence on your first item, it can reduce your HP. When the time comes to gather the 2nd item, if you do not have enough HP, you skip that item and move on to the next sector. Your surveillance level starts fresh for the next sector.

It’s worth noting that while it sounds nice, our data haven’t really demonstrated this strongly one way or another. Based on this theory you could hypothesize that there is a much lower chance of gathering a 2nd item after experiencing turbulence, a moderately lower chance after experiencing wind, and no penalty after not having bad weather. The following is our data, although a much larger sample is probably necessary to clearly demonstrate this: -Failure rate after turbulence: 6 out of 12 (50%) -Failure rate after wind: 4 out of 8 (50%) -Failure rate after none: 0 out of 1 (0%)

Another interesting observation from our results came from upgrading our aftcastle, which decreased surveillance by 4 points. After this upgrade we had significantly higher failure rate for finding a 2nd item: -Failure rate before surveillance decrease: 4 / 14 (29%) -Failure rate after surveillance decrease: 6 / 8 (75%)

However, take the above observations with a grain of salt. One confounding factor is that we also ranked up and traveled to higher sectors on the “after decrease” missions. The higher failure rate may just be because the sectors were more difficult.

Entertaining other ideas, it might be that surveillance influences whether you can gather items in a sector at all, and we haven’t yet encountered a sector where surveillance is not high enough to gather an item. So far, we’ve always been able to gather a first item and occasionally unable to gather a 2nd. We haven’t yet been at a sector where it was possible to gather a 3rd. There have been no “additional anomalies detected” after the 2nd item. Surveillance may also play a role in that, although it seems more likely that there is a cap of 2 nodes for each sector we’ve encountered so far.

One interesting tidbit is that gathering a 2nd item doesn’t seem important for performance ratings (exp boost). On several occasions we’ve gotten “decent” and “satisfactory” ratings for a sector even when we’ve failed to get a 2nd item. Conversely, we’ve gotten “abysmal” ratings where we were able to gather both items but merely with “normal” retrieval levels.

Retrieval discussion

Retrieval is a bit more straightforward. When you extract an item you get a message like this: High retrieval levels result in above-average extraction yield.

Again, the use of the word “retrieval” in this line highly suggests the stat is involved. In our own data, there is a very strong correlation between improving retrieval and getting better retrieval results/performance ratings. We’ve made a single improvement to retrieval (invincible aftcastle). -Ratings before improvement: B, C, C, C, C -Ratings after improvement: A, A, A

We actually just upgraded to enterprise aftcastle last night, and we’ve yet to see the results. It would support this theory if we see a rating even better than A when she comes back! Edit: Well she came back! We got quite a chunk of EXP but still an A rating (was hoping for S).

We just reached Rank 23 with our Bronco and unlocked our second ship. We just have one question before we begin on the next ship. What happens to the old parts when you make upgrades for them? Say I have a full Bronco ship but I’m going to upgrade to the invincible aftcastle. What happens to the Bronco Aftcastle is it returned to your bags, is it destroyed? Do we donate it to the Brume for firewood?

As I finish off my tier 4 hull, Invincible Hull II, I would like to note a thought I have had while making this bad boy. I have used only NQ mats, as we have all noted there has been benefit or differences between NQ vs HQ, however with using only NQ items my construction quality has never been higher than 12/100 for this part for any of the 3 phases. It could be the smite of RNGesus but it could also be higher tier airship parts actually do prefer HQ turn in to increase progress for the hopes of excellent or outstanding construction progress. We will see as I continue finishing all tier 4 parts off.

How to get an Airship in Final Fantasy XIV

Image of Michael Stoyanoff

Airship travel has been a staple in every Final Fantasy game, and this extends into Final Fantasy XIV. Square Enix’s previous MMO, Final Fantasy XI, used an airship travel system that required waiting in real-time for the ship to reach its destination. Luckily, this has not carried over into Final Fantasy XIV, but that isn’t to say air travel isn’t part of the game.

New players will gain the ability to travel by airship between main city hubs simply by progressing the main story quest. A short cutscene will play when the character uses this travel system, and they will then appear in the destination of choice shortly after. The first unlock comes around level 15 when traveling from the player’s starting city to one of the other two locations. Later on, the player will gain the ability to travel to Ishgard and other expansion cities simply by progressing the story in those areas. The First, an entirely new world in Shadowbringers, continues to have an airship system unlocked through the main story.

Players who join a Free Company, the equivalent of guilds in Final Fantasy XIV, will also gain the ability to send custom airships out for Exploratory Voyages through the workshop in their Free Company house. These excursions require a fixed amount of time and grant the Free Company random rewards. Free Company Airships require a host of materials, and each airship has unique stats and will rank up as it completes explorations.

FF14 Best Airship Builds

Airships allow a Free Company (FC) to send out a vessel into various sectors of The Sea of Clouds in search of valuable crafting materials, mounts, and other rare items. While FC airships are no longer being updated, they can still provide great crafting experience for new crafters, boost a FC’s level, or prepare your FC for the newer Submersible expeditions. Ceruleum tanks are needed to send out an airship on a voyage, and the airship parts themselves can be crafted in the FC workshop.

There are four components to an airship – the hull, rigging, forecastle, and aftcastle – all of which provide different stat boosts and banes. The airship’s hull boosts the range stat, allowing you to visit more sectors within a journey but lowers favor. Rigging, on the other hand, provides speed which cuts back the airships journey time while also lowering both range and retrieval stats slightly. The forecastle boosts surveillance and favor stats, which affect the probability of gathering more than one item a sector or discovering a new sector. The forecastle has no bane on stats. Lastly, the aftcastle controls the retrieval stat, which provides a higher probability of rarer rewards, but negatively affects the speed and surveillance stats. Overall, the airship part you’ll want to equip depends on what items you need, so this quick guide lists five different airship builds for your FC’s needs.

5) Max Speed, High Survey, Low Retrieval, and Min Range

An airship with a Bronco style hull

This airship build consists of a Bronco type Hull, Viltgance Aetherwings for the Rigging, Odyssey type Forecastle, and Invincible type Aftcastle. This build is meant to be able to explore sector 24 as quickly as possible in order to farm Iron Voyage Spoils like Zu mounts. While a low retrieval might spawn a few other rewards, if you already have the mounts and are looking for a lot of spoils at once, try the next build.

What's good about this build:

  • Good for farming for Zu mounts and other Iron Voyage Spoils in sector 2
  • Cuts down on time needed to explore sector 24
  • Slight boost in retrieval stats allow for more items when the voyage doesn’t result in Iron Voyage Spoils

Full build details

4) Max Retrieval, High Survey and Range, Min Speed

Body Image

This build consists of an Enterprise type Hull, a Bronco sail, Odyssey type Forecastle, and Tatanora type aftcastle. With a high retrieval, survey, and range, this build is meant to reward as many high quality spoils as possible as long as you don’t mind longer expedition times. These higher quality and rarer items are great for FC funding and this airship’s range will allow it to explore more sectors at once.

What’s good about this build:

  • Great for funding your FC with a rare and high quality items
  • Can explore up to three sectors in one expedition

3) Max Speed, Low Range and Retrieval

Body Image

If you have little use for the rewards in current sectors and you wish to unlock as many new sectors as quickly as possible then this is the best build for the job. Consisting of an Enterprise type Hull, Forecastle, and Aftcastle, and Tatanora propellers, this airship maximizes how quickly you can explore a sector and unlock neighboring ones. However, this comes at the price of fewer spoils.

  • Made to unlock other sectors within quick expedition times
  • Can explore up to two sectors in one expedition

2) High Range, High Speed

Body Image

This build is similar to the previous one with its high speed stat, but its boost in range allows the airship to visit up to four sectors in a relatively quick expedition. Components for this airship include an Odyssey type Hull, Invincible-II propellers, and an Enterprise type Forecastle and Aftcastle. This airship has a higher chance of bringing back rarer items as it explores many different sectors at once, but of course, the one downside is that it will bring back less spoils overall.

  • Can quickly explore up to four sectors on fast expedition times
  • Can boost chance of finding rare items
  • A good method if you’re looking for only a couple of items from each sector

1) All Average Stats

Body Image

With an Invincible-II type Hull, Forecastle, and Aftcastle, and an Enterprise bladder for Rigging, this airship build has all around average stats great for various farming goals. All stats except for Speed are over 100 so you’ll have enough range to easily explore three sectors at a decent speed and will pick up a fair amount of items.

  • An average stats build good for various purposes
  • Can explore up to three sectors
  • Good speed while also having a fair spoils return

Ragnarok ( Final Fantasy XIV airship)

  • Edit source

FFVI Relm Arrowny Menu iOS

The Ragnarok [ˈræɡ.nə.rɒk] is an airship in Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker with the ability to travel through space.

History [ ]

Constructed in secret at the command of the Forum of Sharlayan in the innermost circuit of Labyrinthos , the Ragnarok was designed to ferry passengers and cargo from Eorzea to Mare Lamentorum in a great exodus meant to serve as a way to escape the Final Days . Due to issues concerning its engine, it was rendered inert and could not serve its intended purpose. After learning that the cause behind the Final Days was Meteion and her sisters, the Scions of the Seventh Dawn were looking for a way to reach her at her nest at the edge of the universe to defeat her. Seeing a solution for both the Forum's plight and that of the Scions, Alphinaud Leveilleur struck a deal with the Forum and his father, Fourchenault Leveilleur . If the Scions fixed the issues plaguing the ship, they could use it as they saw fit.

Desperate for a solution and backed into a corner by the approaching apocalypse, the Forum agreed to the deal and showed the Scions to Kokkol Dankkol , who was the engineer in charge of the Ragnarok 's engine. Due to the assistance of the Warrior of Light and the allies they had made along their adventures, various materials gathered from around the world fixed the engine's issues. Using Hydaelyn 's offering of the Mothercrystal 's aether as fuel for the vessel in the form of primals , the Scions boarded the Ragnarok to head to Meteion's nest, named Ultima Thule by Fourchenault.

After being forced to retreat from the Endsinger by the Warrior activating the teleportation device meant to return them to the Ragnarok in case of an emergency, the Scions prayed for their companion aboard the ship. This allowed them to prevail in their battle with the Endsinger.

Due to circumstances regarding dynamis , the Ragnarok now exists in two locations at the same time, allowing the Warrior and others to quickly travel between their star and Ultima Thule whenever they desire by simply interacting with the Ragnarok in its hangar in Labyrinthos.

Etymology [ ]

Ragnarok is named after the starship of the same name from Final Fantasy VIII .

[ view   · edit   · purge ] In Norse mythology, Ragnarök is a prophesied event triggered by the death of the god Balder. It sees a great battle between all the major entities of Norse mythology, during which the spirits in Valhalla are called upon to join the fray. The encounter ends with the destruction of the universe, and Balder along with a handful of others are reborn as mortals, with few memories of the world before Ragnarök.

Prior to being completed, the starship was occasionally jokingly referred to as a "teeny-tiny toy boat" by the Loporrits and both Alisaie and Ameliance Leveilleur .

ffxiv airship travel

Okay, so Ishgard got an airship route, which is surrounded by dangerous dragons and no housing, but Kugane does not at the end of MSQ? This needs to change please. We've waited a full year for FC Search function and now our Shirogane players still don't have any affordable teleportation. It's going to be even worse in Shadowbringers when our preferred locations will be elsewhere. Please fix this.

The trouble is, the game all but tells us early on in Stormblood's storyline that the extreme distance between Eorzea and the Far East prohibits easy airship travel as to fly there would require a prohibitively large amount of fuel to be carried for the journey - far more than what the piddly little Bronco -class airships that Highwind Skyways uses would be capable of carrying (this is the reason why we had to take a ship to the Far East from Eorzea instead, and why Garlemald hasn't been easily able to conquer Eorzea, even they lack easy sources of cereleum to fuel their airships for the full distance required to be travelled. This is why they conqured Ala Mhigo first and then attacked Silvertear Lake, making a bridgehead to consolidate fuel supplies for the then expected fullscale Garlean invasion of Eorzea proper). Either way, I am pretty sure if you can't afford teleportation to and from Kugane to Eorzea the ship route between Eorzea and the Far East still remains active - go back to the dock at Limsa (or the dock at Kugane) and you should be able to get a ship for the Kugane/Eorzea route there.

There's a ferry route from Limsa to Kugane - it leaves from the same dock as the Vesper Bay ferry, near the arcanists' guild.

How to teleport and fast travel in FFXIV

Attune to those Aetherytes

by Julia Lee and Jeff Ramos

The aetheryte in Limsa Lominsa in Final Fantasy 14

The world of Final Fantasy 14 is large and grows with each expansion. When you first start the game, you’ll have to travel on foot until you finally figure out how to get a mount like a chocobo . Thankfully as you run across Eorzea, you’ll encounter large and small crystals called Aetherytes . You can use these blue gems to teleport across the world.

In this FFXIV guide, we’ll explain how to fast travel. We’ll teach you about the different ways you can teleport in the game using Aetherytes. This guide will also detail the difference between teleporting across the world and between areas in cities.

How to fast travel in FFXIV

If you want to fast travel in FFXIV , you’ll have to find an area’s Aetheryte first. You’ll have to do a lot of walking around until you encounter new Aetherytes, but you’ll be able to see them on your map.

Whenever you run into a new Aetheryte, select it and interact with it. You will automatically begin attuning to it.

Once attuned, you can select an Aetheryte from your map screen and teleport to it. You’ll pay a distance-based fee, which changes based on on how far you travel away from your current location.

A female Viera casts teleport in FFXIV

After you confirm your destination, you will pay the fee and cast a Teleport spell. After a short cast time, you’ll flash over to your selected destination. Teleport does not have a cool down time like Return, so as long as you have money, you can teleport to Aetherytes freely.

You can set any large Aetheryte as your “ home point ,” which teleports you there for free when you use the Return command. At any time when you’re not in combat, you can use Return to automatically teleport back to the large Aetheryte at your home base. In a dungeon, Return will bring you back to starting location of the quest.

Return has a 15-minute cooldown time, so keep that in mind when using it.

If you die in the world (not in dungeons or instanced content), you’ll revive back at your home point , so keep that in mind, too.

Fast travel in cities using Aethernet

To fast travel via a city’s Aethernet, you must first attune to at least two Aetherytes in the area. Interact with any of the Aetherytes (shards or the main one) to teleport to another one for free. If you’ve attuned to all of the Aethernet Shards, you can also teleport to the entrances of the cities, allowing you to quickly leave to the outside zones.

How to fast travel for cheaper

Teleporting can get expensive fast, with some of the later areas costing over 1,000 gil per go. You can set up to three locations as a “ favored destination ,” which reduce the cost to teleport to them by half.

If you set up a one-time password with your Square Enix account , you’ll also be allowed to register a “ security token free destination ,” which as the name states, lets you teleport there for free. Interact with your Aetheryte of choice to set it as one of these favored points.

You can also use the company action “ Reduced Rates ” to discount the teleport cost even further, if you’re in a Free Company. You can also buy Aetheryte Tickets , which allow you to teleport for free, in exchange for Allied Seals at your Grand Company ’s base from the Hunt Billmaster.

That said, as you progress through the main scenario quest, you should consider setting that areas you have to travel to frequently as your home point or as a favored destination to save some gil.

Once you’ve travel across most of Eorzea on foot — or via a chocobo or another mou nt — you’ll eventually connect to more Aetherytes. At the beginning of the game, you’ll do a lot of slow traversing over the same environments, but over time, you’ll be zipping across the map. After you unlock how to fly, traveling becomes even faster.
