For those who might want to stay longer, please note that the resort hours are 09:30 AM to 04:30 PM and guests are not permitted past that hour. Taxi back, if you stay longer, is at your expense.

Excursion Notes

• We suggest you bring your swimsuit, sun protection, cash for balance payment, purchases, tips, etc.
• If anyone from your group does not show up without the required prior notice, you will need to pay 20% of their balance as well (directly to the operator as a no-show penalty).
• It is mandatory that all the participants present a government-issued identification (not the ship card) on the check-in to the Front Desk staff. Your ID will be held and return to you when leaving the Resort property.
• There will be an assigned rep from our local operator on site to assist you at the pick-up. Please note that the driver dispatched may be a different one than dropped you off. There is not a shuttle service; you have one assigned pickup time. If you choose to leave early, please inform your rep or the security guard at the gate (not the front desk) so the driver does not spend extra time looking for you and delaying the other guests on the transport.

• If you leave the resort early or miss your assigned pick-up time, the taxi cost back to your ship is not included.

• Your ship arrives into port late and you cannot make it in time to the meeting location.
• Your ship misses/skips the port.
• Weather conditions or equipment failure prevents the operator to run the excursion.
• A medical problem prevents you from safely participating in the excursion (we will verify with the tour operator or guest may send doctor's note).
• Cancellations that do not comply with the above may not be subject to refund. Guests must notify us within 14 days after their excursion date via email for requesting a refund of booking payment made to Shore Excursioneer.

Staff was amazing and so helpful. They also had great amenities!

It was in a nice location on the beach with lovely pool facility and wonderful staff.

We enjoyed the catamaran sailing and their staff. The restaurants were exceptional,! We enjoyed the Rose Hall Great House Haunted excursion a lot. It was educational, interesting, and entertaining. We also enjoyed the Luminous waters excursion.

We did not specifically request a quiet room. We did tell them that it was our anniversary, and were pleased that a bottle of champagne was in our room when we arrived. Food was great! Staff always friendly and helpful.

The breakfast was very enjoyable, we enjoyed the variety at choices and the customer service was a full 10/10. The manager and staff of the restaurant choices were exceptional. The manager that goes by thr name Latoya was very pleasant and took the time out to hear our compliments of her staff's great work attitude. Other staff were Olivia and her co worker they assisted me in getting my room prepared for my girlfriends birthday which they were not obligated to do. These ladies allowed me to feel like i was a part of a family rather than a paying guest at the resprt. I fully appreciate the help and hospitality that we were given at this resort. The experience was amazing.

We’ve cruised to Montego Bay many times and have done the “standard” tours. They’re great. Jamaica has amazing beaches , blue waters , weather , and people .

We’ve also realized that the most convenient way to take advantage of Jamaica's assets is with a Resort Day Pass.

Why choose a resort day pass in Montego Bay?

There are a bunch of reasons for choosing an All Inclusive Day Pass. Here are our top few.

Jamaica is not the safest cruise port in the Caribbean. We wouldn't necessarily say that it's "dangerous." But, safety should always be a priority when selecting your Montego Bay cruise excursion. Only use a reputable tour provider if not choosing a resort. And please be very careful when engaging in commerce with locals.

A resort is your best option if safety is a concern . You'll have no worries within the protected walls of any option below. Security and privacy are valuable amenities at these resorts. We’ve never heard of an incident within one of Jamaica’s resorts. In the rare chance of a health or security issue, you'd want to be at any of these resorts vs an alternative excursion option!

CONVENIENCE

From our map below, you can see that all resorts are near your Montego Bay Cruise Port . Each option below includes transportation to and from the Terminal. They range in distance from 5 to 45 minutes from port. Please note these estimates if your transfer time is important to you. Once on site, you’ll be in complete relaxation for hours.

You'll have every amenity at your fingertips. No need to worry about haggling over price, finding food, renting beach chairs, etc. And you won’t need to check your watch constantly to make sure your excursion provider will get you back on time. Your only inconvenience will be deciding which drink to order next. This is an easy “problem” to solve since drinks are all-inclusive.

Most organized shore excursions are run by “mom and pop” shops. Many do a great job. But, they’re not held to the same standards as the resort properties. When you’re done with your snorkeling gear at the Hilton, they’ll clean and sanitize the equipment. After a tour with “ Lou’s Snorkeling Fun Time,” the gear might get a quick splash of Red Stripe before the next cruise passenger straps it on. This is a bit of an exaggeration, but hopefully you get where we’re going. The resorts will likely have newer beach chairs, fresher towels, and cleaner restrooms.

You’ll see the cost of an all-inclusive day pass averages roughly $100 per person . This is similar to the cost of a resort for a day in Montego Bay. However, you’ll find much more included at one of these options.

A "standard" cruise excursion includes many hidden costs. You might pay for beach access. Chair rentals will cost $20 per. Drink costs will likely be double that. Then you'll likely want to tack on events like kayaking or snorkeling.

You can easily spend $100 per person going "a la carte." And you'll likely leave a bit hungrier and “thirstier” than if the situation were all-inclusive. There's also an intangible value to the buffet style. The freedom to order whatever you want all day long is a huge bonus.

How a guy from Shaker Heights built a 30-year tourism career in Jamaica

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica – Lee Weinstock made his first trip to Jamaica in the late 1980s, a student at Ohio State University enamored with reggae music.

He was hooked.

Fast forward more than 30 years, and Weinstock has spent the majority of his career helping to support the tourism economy of the small island nation.

His career here has run the gamut – organizing tours for thousands of cruise passengers, setting up meetings at the island’s swankiest resorts, even taking a fellow Shaker Heights native (yours truly!) on a tour of some of the country’s best jerk chicken.

He’s experienced the island’s tourism economy from nearly every angle – from the opening of the upscale Ritz-Carlton Golf and Spa Resort in 2000 to the COVID crisis two decades later.

Most recently, he’s relaunched his own business, Travel True Jamaica , an updated version of a tour company he started years ago. He’s working with both corporate and individual clients, crafting experiences and tours that highlight the island’s best known sites and hidden gems.

“I like both sides – being able to help Jamaicans and help tourists have great experiences,” said Weinstock, 57.

Kept going back

After traveling to Jamaica that first time, Weinstock found reasons to keep going back.

“I came back every year – spring break, winter break, sometimes both,” he said.

His roommate at Ohio State was Clevelander Packy Malley, a fellow Bob Marley fan who founded the Midwest Reggae Festival in 1991 in Cleveland and ran it for more than two decades.

Malley, a retired executive with family-founded Malley’s Chocolates, is currently serving in the Peace Corps in Jamaica and meets up with Weinstock from time to time for concerts and other occasions.

“I have a saying in Jamaica -- always trust Lee,” said Malley. “No one knows Jamaica better than him.”

After graduating from Ohio State in 1990, Weinstock took a job selling ads for an entertainment magazine in Columbus. But it didn’t take him long to figure out he wanted more.

“There’s more to life than Columbus,” he observed recently.

He got hired as a representative for Apple Vacations, and was assigned to Montego Bay.

Since then, he’s worked in Mexico, Arizona and Florida, for some of the biggest names in hospitality.

He always found his way back to Jamaica.

“I like being an hour from a waterfall,” he said.

He helped open the Ritz-Carlton in 2000 (now the Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall) and worked to establish Secrets St. James and Wild Orchid resorts a decade later.

Over the years, he’s had a front-row seat to Jamaica’s evolution from a country with a relatively modest tourism infrastructure to one with beaches lined with massive all-inclusive resorts. Last year, the Jamaica welcomed more than 4 million travelers, a record.

It hasn’t always been easy, of course.

Weinstock, a 1985 graduate of Shaker Heights High School, has been through his share of tourism slumps and economic downturns, including 9/11 and the COVID pandemic.

This year, Jamaica is dealing with the repercussions of the U.S. State Department’s updated travel advisory for the country , which earlier this year recommended that Americans “reconsider travel” to the Caribbean nation due to issues related to high crime and health-care accessibility.

The travel advisory perplexed Weinstock, who believes the country is safe for tourists (although not always for locals).

Tourism operators in Jamaica are already feeling the effects of the advisory. Some Americans aren’t coming, he said, “And a lot of people who are coming aren’t leaving their resorts.”

Despite the setback, Weinstock believes there’s a market for the service he provides. “I know where to go. I know how to get you on the golf course when no one else can.”

He offers these tips for both first-time and repeat travelers to Jamaica:

* Get away from the resort. Hire a driver or take a tour and see some sights. “It is safe to leave your hotel,” he said. “See Jamacia, experience Jamacia.”

* Everyone speaks English, although Jamaica patois is the local dialect, a lyrical creole language with influences from West Africa. “If you don’t understand, ask them to repeat what they said,” said Weinstock.

* There’s no need to exchange U.S. currency to Jamaican dollars. Every business accepts U.S. cash. Bring smaller bills for tips and roadside stops. “Tip like you do in the States,” he said.

* You can bargain for prices in most places. “But don’t get so caught up in bargaining that you don’t get what you want. If you like it and the price is fair, get it.”

* Try the local food, including jerk chicken, pepper shrimp and fried bammy. If you don’t know what it is, ask.

* Tap water is fine to drink everywhere.

While my stay at Rose Hall was in May of 2023, I felt compelled to leave a review after my recent stay at the Hyatt Zilara, Cancun in November of 2021 and most recently in April of 2024. After my first stay in Cancun, I was so excited to go to the Jamaica location. To say we were disappointed by the Rose Hall was an understatement. The check-in process at the airport was long, frustrating, and not at all welcoming. When we arrived at the resort, our room was not ready. When we attempted to make dinner reservations all of our choices were booked for our entire 4 night stay unless we wanted to eat at 9:00 at night. The pool bar on the adult side was closed for renovations. The pool itself closed at 6 and then it was pretty much a ghost town on that side. When we asked about entertainment they said people complain about noise so we would need to go the family side. In the end, we paid to stay at an adults-only resort and had to walk to the kid side to have a pool bar or entertainment. We found both Ziva and Zilara to have mediocre service and food. The grounds were far from pristine and the pool areas were always littered with plastic cups. I decided to finally take the time to write this review because if you are like us, we... I'm writing to bring to your attention the recent issues during our stay at the Hyatt Zilara from March 29th to April 4th. Despite being loyal World of Hyatt Members and having visited the resort three times in the past two years, we were disappointed by the following incidents, which fell below the standards expected of a 5-star resort: Our initial room did not align with the "adults only" concept, as it overlooked a children's area with a bright yellow bunny, and lacked adequate blackout curtains, leading to disrupted sleep. On April 2nd, we experienced a lack of hot water and a broken shower head, causing inconvenience. Additionally, when requesting towels after attempting a cold shower, none were available, as the maid had run out. Throughout April 3rd, we endured multiple power outages, causing significant inconvenience and even impacting our friends' ability to finalize a real estate deal electronically. Despite my request on March 31st for something special to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday, promised amenities, such as a plated dessert and wine, were never delivered as arranged with the concierge. Our room exhibited numerous cosmetic defects, including cracked tiles, stained furniture, and a noisy air conditioner. While we appreciated the Cabana provided as a temporary solution for the lack of blackout curtains, we expected a more permanent resolution. One afternoon, we visited the World of Hyatt club area expecting to enjoy appetizers and drinks as advertised. However, while drinks were available, there were no appetizers or enticing offerings to encourage us to stay. This lack of amenities diminished our experience and left us feeling disappointed with the overall level of service provided. Overall, our frustration stems from the lack of personal communication to address these concerns. As loyal customers, we have lost confidence in the brand and expected a higher level of service, especially considering we recommended the resort to friends who joined us on this trip.

The resort is located right next to its sister property Ziva. The service we had all week was great. Shakira and Angeleta went out of their way to make sure we never needed to go far for anything. I will say that staying next to the Ziva was a mistake because we were also staying with 100 high school students who invaded the adults side pool area daily. There was little to no adult supervision as the kids indulged. In the evening they also invaded the adults side forcing the shut down of the bar due to them going behind the bar and helping themselves to “free” liquor. That same evening they were also urinating outside the bar in a corner vs using the appropriate facilities. When the staff was approached with these issues they said there was nothing they could do because they were paying customers. Well we are too and we won’t be bringing our money back here again along with several other guests we spoke to. In addition, the grounds were run down. There could be a paint job here and there, a shingle repair as well as a look at the plumbing. The water pressure was poor at times with the temperature varying from scalding to cold even after selecting a suitable temp. On the last day at check out we went to use the lobby bathroom and flushed the toilet only to have the toilet explode and eventually flood the lobby. So to say they need some basic repairs is an understatement.

DO NOT COME HERE DURING SPRING BREAK. This resort allows high school kids to run around wild, take over the night activities, and be disrespectful to the adults at the resort. They come to the adults only side, get drunk & loud. Not worth the money!!!!!

We just returned from 6-nights at the Hyatt ZIlara. Had never stayed at the Hyatt property; did when it was a Ritz. Our stay matched most other reviews; great service (extra kudos to Shawnaleigh, Kedice, Shakira, Keisha, Javaigne, and all the restaurant staffs) , everyone very attentive, room was spotless, pool great, food was quality, lots of options, and plentiful! Nothing was ever a problem and entertainment was exceptional in all locations. We had a corner one-bedroom suite and it was the best room we’ve ever had in Jamaica. Shuttle from MBJ was flawless, including a 4a transport. Only downsides, just as everyone says, beach is small(er) and rocky. Not natural sand. Pool is really nice and fun, perhaps too much fun for old(er) folks. Music was nonstop and finding a place for quiet was difficult to do. That said, we also were there during spring break (which is our fault). We did have a water outage as well, but I think that has less to do with the hotel team and more to do with Hyatt resolving it definitively. For that price, it was a material inconvenience. Fantastic place, great time and would go back for sure (albeit when the high schoolers are back in school). Try it!!!

The views and the property are absolutely beautiful, but I think the hospitality that we received while staying at the Zilara was even more incredible! I’ve been all over the world and I’d have a difficult time finding a more friendly and caring staff. You really feel the love! It’s only been a few weeks and I already miss: seeing Tonnie Marie’s beaming smile and getting her tips on the best food on prem, having Kavion make me a blue drink “with love,” knowing LaToya is always looking out for us to make sure we’re having a great time, seeing Julio hustling around to make everything run smoothly, hearing what hilarious things Zavio is spitting that day, getting the scoop on the hot spots at the pool from Aldean, Davia being the sweetest server and chatting with us at morning breakfasts at Choicez… I could go on and on listing all the amazing people we met, and telling you how much care they took to get to know us and make sure we had the absolute best time while we were there. AND(!) we went without kids this time, but this place seems like a dream for families! We had already decided to come back with our kids, and that was before we found out about the Kidz Club. I highly recommend this place! Other highlights: Gym- the fitness center was phenomenal! Better than any gym I have at home. Food- The food was way better than any all-inclusive I’ve been to before. Lots of variety. And tons of great coffee shops and grab & go spots. We were always full. Activities- We did the catamaran and it was such an amazing (& free!) excursion. Be prepared to get wet, but also get some really beautiful pictures. Rooms- we had a swim up room that was beautiful. It was in the shade all the time, though, so it was mostly our refuge from the afternoon sun as opposed to a place to lounge all day. Also, the elevator seemed really slow (based on the lines we saw), but we were on the 1st floor, so it was never an issue. We did have an issue with hot water, but we went to the desk in the morning and it was fixed immediately (as in, the maintenance worker had it fixed, cleaned up, and left in under an hour).
