FRIESLAND, Netherlands - The 11 Cities SUP Tour is such a unique and extraordinary race. Athletes experience the ultimate challenge as they paddle 220 kilometers (136 miles) in five days with weather conditions varying from windless, beautiful and sunny to cold, rainy and stormy. Besides the ultimate challenge the SUP 11-City Tour is also an unique experience. Here, podium finisher Siri Schubert reflects on the race and shares her thoughts in an interview. Check it out!

You just finished the SUP 11 City Tour, a grueling 220 km stage race and came 3rd in the women’s competition. What makes the race so special?

It is truly an extraordinary race. I love the atmosphere and the fact that people from 27 nations travel to Friesland to race, compete and celebrate the sport together. It’s great because elite racers and weekend warriors all paddle the same distance and everybody goes through highs and lows over the course of five days. It’s a really, really hard race but it is also great fun.

What equipment did you use?

I was really lucky. For several reasons, I could not bring my own equipment and the airline broke my paddle on the way to the race. That was really stressful and I was wondering whether I would even make it to the starting line. Fortunately, Alexander Mettes from Aqua Inc. stepped in and provided me with the SuperSonic race board and a paddle. Of course, it’s always risky to paddle new equipment in a race but it worked out great. The board is fast and very stable at the same time and I felt immediately comfortable on it. It really allowed me to push my limits and to go for a spot on the podium. The paddle also worked well – after more than 200 km, I had virtually no blisters .

Why did you choose Aqua Inc.?

I really liked the shape of the SuperSonic and am excited to see the new SuperSonic LV boards. Being a relatively small paddler, I look for boards that work well for my size and weight. I was really impressed with how fast Alexander responded to my initial inquiry and that he immediately offered help when my paddle broke. There was something else that attracted me to Aqua Inc.: I saw a picture of a VW Beetle with an Aqua Inc. board on top. I drive a VW Beetle and immediately thought: That’s a perfect fit!

How did you motivate yourself during the 5 days?

I had done the SUP 11 City Tour before in 2013 and I knew from experience that it gets easier during the week. I expected the first day to be the hardest and it was. Seeing Seychelle Hattingh (1st place, USA) and Petronella van Malsen (2nd place, The Netherlands) in front of me pretty much during the whole race was extremely motivating. I constantly pushed myself to narrow the gap.

Can you talk about some highlights of the SUP 11 City Tour?

Absolutely. Going through the canals in the Dutch countryside and in the cities was great. I especially loved day two where you first paddle through a long canal lined with trees that provide shade and a special atmosphere. And the cities were beautiful. There was always something to see so that the long distances didn’t feel so long. I also like the fact that there were always people on the bridges and near the canal to cheer us on. We were also exceptionally lucky with the weather. It was warm and sunny during the whole race.

Were there times when you were struggling?

Probably mostly on day four. I was tired, I hadn’t slept well the night before and found it hard to keep my head in the game. But luckily there were some fantastic people who encouraged me and motivated me so that I managed to regain my focus and finish strong.

How did you handle food and nutrition?

That was a bit of a challenge. Luckily SUP Shop 24-7 had provided me with Ox Endurance Formula, which worked great and provided energy for the long stages. Eating was more difficult. It’s really important to eat enough to get through many hours of paddling but at times I really didn’t feel like eating at all. I had to convince myself to eat another banana or another energy bar. My stomach was pretty upset on two days and eating is hard when you really don’t want to.

Did you have a support team with you?

My partner Stefan Munsch couldn’t come with me but he is always there for me and supports me throughout the whole journey. I also had wonderful support during the race from so many people. It was fantastic. Alexander from Aqua Inc. of course and his team who supported me with cheers and energy drinks. Albert Grossguth who had done the non-stop race was also a fantastic supporter and knowing that he would be at the rest stops and the finish line gave me extra motivation. NRS also supports me with clothing and gear that add style and comfort to my paddling adventures. There were so many paddlers, and of course, the race organizers and many volunteers that supported me so I felt I had the best support team in the world. I am extremely grateful for all the encouragement and help I received.

11 cities tour 2016 siri 7

How did you prepare for the race?

I love paddling long distances. I just enjoy being on the water. I paddled several marathons and half marathons during the year and also competed in the Molokai2Oahu Paddleboard World Championships in July. The M2O and the SUP 11 City Tour are my two favorite races, even though they are entirely different.

How did you deal with logistics?

The race is very well organized. The race directors, the staff and volunteers are extremely hard working but always helpful and cheerful. I was so impressed. I stayed in one of the boats, which was great for meeting people and making new friends but maybe not so great for getting a good night’s sleep. Still, I am very happy to have stayed on a boat and met the four fantastic women with whom I shared a room.

You have done many long distance races, you have done the 11 City Tour twice, you have done the M2O three times, you have paddled the length of Lake Geneva and completed several marathons. Why do you paddle?

I love being out on the water and challenging myself - I also love the fact that the water is always different and there is so much to learn and to experience. I enjoy paddling on all kinds of water – the ocean, lakes and rivers.

What are your plans for next year?

I will definitely keep paddling and enjoy being out on the water – on rivers, lakes and the ocean. I will also participate in races and think 2017 is going to be an exciting year with strong paddlers who are dedicated to the sport. I look forward to meeting wonderful people at different events. I love downwind races and long distance races and look forward to some great events. I’d also love to do the 11 City Tour again, even though it’s far too early to make a commitment. This race is just so special and so much fun that I wouldn’t want to miss it.

Breaking news, suspect in murder of new orleans tour guide entered us illegally, has criminal history.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

At least one of the three suspects arrested in connection with the shooting death of a French Quarter tour guide in New Orleans is an illegal immigrant with a criminal history on American soil, according to immigration authorities.

The immigration status of the other two suspects was not immediately clear.

New Orleans police arrested Joshua Bonifacio-Avila, 19, Jerben Albarec, 17, and Kevin Nunez, 15, the day after the slaying of 43-year-old Kristie Thibodeaux in her car on St. Peter Street, the morning of June 30.

Nunez is accused of pulling the trigger. And Aviala-Bonifacio, a Honduras national, is accused of entering the country illegally, Immigration and Customs Enforcement told Fox News Digital.

“On May 11, 2019, U.S. Border Patrol encountered Bonifacio near Hidalgo, Texas, and determined him to be inadmissible into the U.S. pursuant to the Immigration and Nationality Act,” an ICE spokesperson said. “On multiple occasions, Bonifacio has been arrested for theft and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles. Since February 2024, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office has booked Bonifacio for five local violations.”

Crowds at Mardi Gras 2013

ICE does not have purview over juveniles, so the immigration status of the other two suspects was not immediately clear.

The agency’s Enforcement and Removal Operations division, ERO, has lodged a detainer request for the suspect.

The slaying took place around 4:30 a.m. on June 30 as part of an armed robbery, New Orleans police said. They arrested all three suspects on July 1. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office identified Thibodeaux as the victim on July 2.

Jerben Albarec

Police were asking anyone with information on the case to contact homicide detectives at 504-658-5300.

Nunez had an active arrest warrant at the time and was wearing an ankle monitor, according to the New Orleans-based FOX 8 .

Aviala-Bonifacio also had a criminal history, including arrests for alleged theft and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles, according to ICE. He also used the alias Joshua Avila.

Joshua Aviala-Bonifacio

“This man should have never been in Louisiana,” Gov. Jeff Landry wrote on X. “Enough is enough. We must close our borders and keep our communities safe.”

Nunez’s criminal record on American soil included seven counts of aggravated assault, illegal possession of a handgun and domestic battery, WVUE-TV reported. Nevertheless, Chief Juvenile Court Judge Candice Bates-Anderson sentenced him to house arrest.

He allegedly violated the terms in May but was walking free, without real-time digital monitoring, because his ankle monitor had been deactivated, according to the outlet.

The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office could not immediately be reached for comment before business hours Thursday.

“With no guardrails from OJJ and OPJC, we as a city have to seriously consider shutting down electronic monitoring until we can be confident in the competence of the administrators to conduct real monitoring and the commitment of judges to ensure actual accountability for young defendants for violations and noncompliance,” prosecutors said in a statement to local media.

The incident reportedly attracted intense scrutiny upon the city’s juvenile justice system and the company that provides ankle monitoring services.

General Jeff Landry

Jill Dennis, of the Assured Supervision Accountability Program, a competing contractor, told FOX 8 the failure to properly monitor violent offenders like Nunez “is chaotic and insane.”

Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not immediately respond to a request for more information on the suspects.

Thibodeaux would have turned 44 next month. She is survived by her husband, her parents, four siblings and eight nieces and nephews, according to an online obituary.

Thibodeaux loved dogs, motorcycling, her Jeep, her old Mustang convertible and watching the sunset over Lake Pontchartrain with her husband, Jase.

A memorial service was held Wednesday.

Tourist Boom Leads to Congestion

Salem's history and the infamous witch trials have turned it into a bustling tourist hotspot. However, the influx of visitors has left some locals more irritated by the crowds than appreciative of the revenue.

Low Barrier for Tour Guides

Previously, becoming a tour guide in Salem was as easy as paying a $10 license fee. This low barrier led to a surge in the number of tour licenses issued, with 230 issued last year and 176 already this year.

This misplaced confidence can lead to complications, especially when such items are needed. It underscores the importance of considering what truly belongs in a safety deposit box.

Tour Businesses React

Unsurprisingly, tour business owners are unhappy with the significant fee hike. The new costs pose a challenge for those operating in Salem's competitive tour market.

Many items people consider storing in a safety deposit box may not require such high-security levels. A home safe or a secure filing system might suffice for less valuable yet still important items. Overestimating the need for security can lead to unnecessary expenses and inconveniences.

The process teaches persistence, advocacy, and the importance of understanding legal and governmental systems. These experiences often foster a strong sense of justice and a desire to improve these systems for others.

Fury expressed her frustration, feeling that guides are being treated like outsiders despite their efforts to improve Salem. She emphasized the importance of their role in managing tourist behavior and maintaining order.

Visit museums, attend live performances, and immerse yourselves in the local traditions. The shared experience of discovering a new culture deepens the connection and broadens your horizons.

Opposition Within City Council

Salem City Council member Alice Merkl opposed the fee increase, arguing it would not reduce tourist numbers. She believes organized tours are essential for providing some level of supervision to the influx of visitors.

Polaroid revolutionized photography with its instant cameras, becoming an iconic brand. The digital photo revolution, however, rendered its core product nearly obsolete. Polaroid has attempted to reinvent itself with digital products and nostalgia-driven instant cameras, but struggles to regain its widespread appeal.

Debate Over Tour Guide Necessity

Merkl contends that having fewer tour guides won't equate to fewer tourists. She stresses that guides help manage the flow of visitors and ensure they explore the city responsibly.

About this event.

The City of London, or 'the Square Mile', is the beating, historic heart of London, where the Romans established Londinium 2000 years ago.

The layers of history and the combination of old and new make it an endlessly fascinating place to explore and there is a secret or surprise around every corner.

When you think of the City today you may well think of the modern landmarks: the huge, glittering skyscrapers, but tucked between them is where the history lies, in the minutiae, the hidden secluded gardens, the narrow warrens of alleyways and unusual street names.

This fun-filled walking tour will look at the turbulent history of the City through the lens of its oft-overlooked little details, hidden symbols and off-the-beaten-track nooks. We will also look at the stories behind some of the powerful, eccentric and forgotten people that have lived here over the centuries from Roman gladiators to Elizabethan merchants, Greek coffee sellers and even a long lost beloved goose.

The tour starts outside exit 2 of St Paul's tube station, lasts around an hour and 45 minutes and finishes by Leadenhall Market.

Travis kelce reveals how much taylor swift’s suite at super bowl 2024 cost.

Travis Kelce shelled out a pretty penny so his family and friends — including girlfriend Taylor Swift — could sit in a suite at the 2024 Super Bowl.

During an episode of Netflix’s “Receiver,” the Kansas City Chiefs player talked about the astronomical prices with San Fransisco 49ers star George Kittle, who starred in the new reality series.

After Kittle revealed his family was planning to sit in the stands, Kelce hinted at how much he potentially paid for a private box.

“They’re f—king three million dollars,” Kelce, 34, quipped.

Travis Kelce and George Kittle.

Kittle — who signed a five-year $75 million deal in 2020 — explained that he has a “good contract” but ultimately decided it wasn’t worth it.

“It’s just like, ‘You guys are gonna be fine,'” the tight end, 30, joked about his family.

However, he noted that teammate Christian McCaffrey was able to snag a “nice deal” after going back and forth about getting one for his now-wife, Olivia Culpo.

A rep for On Location Experiences , the official website to purchase suites via the NFL, previously confirmed to Page Six that the only 32-person suite left in Allegiant Stadium after the Chiefs qualified cost $3 million — and was expected to go up.

Taylor Swift in a suite

Kelce seemingly snagged the suite at the last minute as his mom, Donna Kelce, revealed a week before the Super Bowl that she was planning to watch from “the stands” because VIP boxes were in the “multimillions.”

However, the record-breaking tight end later hinted about his decision to get a suite on his “New Heights” podcast, jokingly telling listeners he was preparing for the big game by thinking about “losing all this money.”

“I’m not really doing much different other than just counting how much money I’m spending on this damn Super Bowl for family and friends to come,” he joked.

However, the three-time Super Bowl champion surely isn’t strapped for cash. He has earned over $75 million throughout his career and is expected to make an additional $34.25 million over the next two seasons — not including any of his lucrative brand deals or income from his hit podcast.

Despite the suite’s hefty price tag, it seemed well worth it as Swift was spotted having a blast during the game.

The “Cruel Summer” singer, 34, was joined by her parents, Andrea and Scott Swift, and her brother, Austin Swift, as well as the entire Kelce clan — including Jason Kelce, his wife, Kylie, and Travis’ parents, Donna and Ed.

Taylor’s pals Blake Lively, Ice Spice, Ashley Avignone, Lana Del Rey and Keleigh and Miles Teller were also there cheering for the Chiefs.

Several of Travis’ close friends and management team rounded out the jam-packed VIP booth.

The 14-time Grammy winner flew for nearly 11 hours straight to make it to Las Vegas in time for the game after playing a sold-out show in Japan the day prior.

Travis has also shown the same commitment to supporting his leading lady on her international Eras Tour. The NFL star has traveled to and from Europe over the last couple of weeks between his work commitments in the States.

However, the Chiefs training camp starts later this month, meaning Travis will likely miss most of her shows towards the end of summer.

NON-Stop SUP 11-City Tour 2021 – The story

sup city tour 11

The first start of the 8th annual NON-Stop SUP 11-City tour took place at 8 am in Leeuwarden.

A grey sky and a few knots of wind from the north accompanied the paddlers while Joy Lynn Alegarbes touched everyone with the Hawaiian ‘Oli Mahalo’ chant.

With the different speed of the paddlers, the start was stacked with 2 hours difference; having the last paddlers leave at noon.

15 Paddlers: 9 men 1 woman and 2 teams, formed the non-stop fleet; representing Friesland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Czech Republic, Belgium, France & Sweden.

Due to Corona we had 15 cancellations, but in the non-stop the ultra-endurance journey is the focus rather than the number of paddlers.

The northerly tail wind made ways for a fast start and smooth arrival in Sloten; also, the turnaround point back into the lakes towards Stavoren. But, heading back over the Slotermeer and the lakes following, side winds created choppy waters and teased the athletes to balance some more. Not everyone kept it dry…

The weather this weekend was better than the entire Dutch Summer, so half of the Frisian population headed out with their recreational boats during the 21-degree sunny day joining our fleet of Suppers (or the other way around?)

After the solid stretch to Stavoren, the north wind became grim; turning into a tough head wind towards Workum. Smiles faded and the ultra-endurance journey took over while temperatures dropped swiftly below 10 degrees after the sun set. The zig-zag route towards Harlingen offered a new sort of scenery while windmills seem like giants in the black night. The dropping wind was a blessing especially on a long straight stretch over the “Van Harinxmakanaal” to Franeker.

The night was BEAUTIFUL! The clear sky and a new moon made it extra dark and the stars extra bright. Infamous Suptember, the start of fall, also created that special non-stop effect for the athletes paddling through spiderwebs, mosquitos and thick mist that would last past sunrise.

The dark hours challenge athletes and crew as ‘sleeping is cheating’, but when it is tough, the Magic happens. Random supporters would show up and keep the athletes going. Warm Fresh baked Apple pie would show up before midnight with fresh coffee (Thank you Rommie!) Joy Lynn danced Hula ‘Ka Pilina’ (birds at night) in the pitch black lit up by lights. Pin locations ‘where to be next’ kept the crew excited and connected. And the stories go on and on.

sup city tour 11

Fast times where the theme this year and compared to last year, sunrise was closer to Dokkum than the year before’. Welcoming Sunday during sunrise, was celebrated with the Hawaiian chant “E Ala E” as currents were helping the paddlers into Dokkum. The increasing north east wind midmorning was helpful blowing everyone back into the current to Burdaard and the famous bridge in Batlehiem. The last legs to Aldsjerk were heavy. Leeuwarden did finally come into view after “The famous Elevencity tile bridge” and with a bit of luck, the volunteers came and got you with smiles and music. A party in its own.

sup city tour 11

The Legends GPS Tracking was legendary indeed helping the organization, support crews and online fans back home to see who is where. It made all the difference.

When you start in Leeuwarden, it is the goal to finish in Leeuwarden.

Niek van den Linde, doing the non-stop for the 5th (and last time so he said) did that in Style! He did not only cross the finish line being first, he also set the non-stop SUP 11-City Tour record in 23 hours, 32 minutes and 16 seconds. Simultaneously he reached his goal paddling an impressive new world record for the 24-hour distant that resulted in 204.27 kilometers. The gain in this amazing achievement did not mean that there was no pain. “Paddling a distant like this, you don’t do alone” Niek mentioned at the price giving. “It helps a lot when you have a great team (his dad Theo, finance Linda & sponsor Herman van den Berg) and supporters showing up for you during the day and night”

Goran Gustavsson (Sweden) finished “complety empty and emotional” as he mentioned in 29 hours, 24 minutes and 45 seconds and broke his record from 2 years ago by almost 3 hours.

Marek Splichal (Czech Republic) came in 3rd with a time of 31 hours 37 minutes and 15 seconds.

sup city tour 11

Our one and only girl in the fleet Margriet Koeman (Netherlands) finished with an impressive time of 33 hours, 34 minutes and 6 seconds. “Due to work, I did not have time to paddle 5 days, so I gave the non-stop a go”.

The team of 5 paddlers “Non-Stop for Kids”(Germany), as well fundraiser for kids with special needs, came in first with a time of 28 hours, 24 minutes and 45 seconds. The local Frisian team of 4 paddlers “Golden Girls” finished in 29 hours, 5 minutes and 3 seconds.

Unfortunately, Mattias Vagt (Germany) & Michael Van Craen (Belgium) stopped before Hindeloopen. Tjietse Feenstra (Netherlands) accomplished 145 km before he stopped. Vincent Claeskens (Belgium) was troubled by his diabetes and had to hand in the towel in Batlehiem.

When things come to an end, it feels a bit sad, but the 5 day SUP 11-City Tour will continue on Wednesday in a few days.

Rest me to give a huge shout out to the organization, all volunteers, sponsors, masseuses and everyone who added their mana (Energy) to this amazing and memorable non-stop edition.
