The Best Martinborough Wineries to Visit in 2024

Whether you live in the Wellington region or are travelling through, a Martinborough winery trip has to be on your bucket list. There are 30+ wineries in and around Martinborough, giving the town an impressive winery to people ratio of about 1:60.

Being located in the Wairarapa Region, only an hour and a half north of Wellington, Martinborough is super convenient to the city.

This post is your guide to the best Martinborough winery trip, including the best wineries in Martinborough, the tastiest winery lunches, and all the details of where to stay in Martinborough and how to get around.

What I love about the Martinborough wineries is that they are all small-scale artisan producers, often family businesses. This means that you get super friendly welcomes and lots of knowledge sharing. It’s common that the person pouring the wine at your tasting owns and runs the vineyard and they’re very happy to tell you all about their business. There is also a growing focus on sustainable and organic wine production.

The best wineries in Martinborough

The Martinborough wineries run the gamut from the elegant and classy Palliser Estate, with its cellar door in a historic manor house, to more laidback ultra-Kiwi wineries like Grava and Ata Rangi that are more like stepping into someone’s backyard or garden. I would advise including a mix of both on your Martinborough winery trip, so you get the full experience.

Our picks for the top 5 Martinborough wineries not to miss are:

Luna Estate

  • Palliser Estate
  • Te Kairanga

Martinborough wine-tasting itinerary map

Below is a route that takes you to seven of my favourite Martinborough wineries. You can just fit in wine tastings at each of these Masrtinborugh vineyards in one day but you’ll want to start early.

Otherwise, you could split it into a Martinborough weekend itinerary by doing the vineyards on the eastern side of town on day 1 and the north/western side on day 2.

How do wine tastings in Martinborough work?

Every winery offers tastings at the cellar door however the opening hours and cost vary. Most of the smaller wineries only open on weekends. If you’re visiting on a Saturday or Sunday, it’s fairly safe to assume that everywhere will be open between 11 am and 4 pm. However, we would advise checking each winery’s hours ahead of time to be sure. You can use the document compiled by the local council which is updated regularly or just Google it.

Wine tastings at Martinborough wineries are almost always free if you buy a bottle or a nominal charge of $10-20 per person for tasting 3-6+ different wines. This is very reasonable given the tasting pours often add up to more than a full glass!

Most wineries around Martinborough will let you choose which wines you want to taste from their range so if you prefer to stick to reds or whites that’s easily done.

You generally don’t need to book, unless you want to have lunch at one of the Martinborough winery restaurants on a weekend, in which case definitely book, ideally a month ahead of time. The one exception when we last visited was Luna Estate which prefers you to book for wine tastings as well and is very popular, so you risk missing out without a reservation.

What wine is Martinborough known for?

Martinborough’s best wines are its pinot noirs, high in tannins they’re richly flavoured and often quite savoury. Every winery offers its own take on the pinot noir, which is quite different from the Otago pinot noirs you’ll find down south.

There are also a couple of great Syrahs made in Martinborough. Called Shiraz internationally, these are a heavier red than the pinot noirs. The Syrah at Moy Hall got me into drinking this varietal.

For the white-wine drinkers, try the Sauvignon Blancs and Pinot Gris, particularly the late-harvest vintages. Many of the wineries in Martinborough only sell their wines at the cellar door so if you like something grab a bottle as you might not have the chance again.

Getting between wineries in Martinborough

I would highly recommend doing your Martinborough winery tours by bike. I’ve tried driving and walking before but biking is by far the best option. You can reach over half the wineries on foot, but bikes are easiest for getting to some of the further away wineries that you don’t want to miss.

Biking also means you don’t need a designated driver and you avoid parking hassles. Some of the wineries near Martinborough don’t have car parking and the ones that do are mostly down dirt/gravel roads or on steep hills. The ride is not at all strenuous as the Martinborough area is very flat and not all that spread out.

Martinborough bike hire

There are 4-5 bike hire companies in Martinborough and of these, we recommend either  Green Jersey Explorers  or  Indi Bikes . Both have central collection points, so you won’t have to walk far from accommodation in town. They also both offer a range of options from standard bikes to tandems, rickshaws, trikes, and multi-seater CrocBikes/IndiBikes.

Martinborough wineries bike

Green Jersey is a bigger operation, and they offer a great wine collection service. Rather than carting wine bottles with you all day, you can buy your wine at various wineries and leave it there to be collected by Green Jersey who will have it waiting for you at the end of the day. Green Jersey is the only one with e-bikes.

Bike hire rates are around $40/day for a standard bike and $75/day for an e-bike (Green Jersey only).

Martinborough winery tours

If you want to skip the planning and have the luxury of being driven around all day you can do a guided winery tour. There are options leaving from Wellington or meeting you in Martinborough). To help choose the best Martinborough wine tour for you, read our full guide here .

Best Martinborough winery lunches

There’re not many things we like more than spending a lazy afternoon at a winery enjoying a long lunch with mates. So, here’s our pick of some of the best winery lunches in Martinborough (in no particular order):

This is a newer winery and the fit-out is very light, airy, and modern. The food is Asian fusion, and they do a set menu of entrée and dessert for $40, or you can get some summer rolls for a mid-afternoon snack.

Moy Hall offers a sharing-style lunch in its indoor-outdoor courtyard/marquee looking out across the vines. The menu is super seasonal and uses the best local produce. As a bonus, their winery is dog friendly so you can bring your fur baby along.

Poppies is the OG Martinborough winery, and their platters have been locally famous since well before I moved to Wellington. For good reason, they come absolutely loaded with everything from smoked salmon to assorted cheese to grilled vegetables. Each platter is a meal in itself and comes in at $48 for a two-person platter with an extra $2pp for bread. Note: Poppies only do platters so if that’s not your thing then try one of the other options above.

platters at Martinborough winery

All these spots have an outdoor area where you can soak up the sunshine. Martinborough is much less windy than Wellington and does get warm in summer (high 20s in Celsius on a good day).

Almost every winery has some food option, using involving a cheese and antipasto platter so if you find yourself hungry and not near any of these spots just ask what food they offer at the closest winery. Since many of the wineries use high-quality local artisan producers for their food offerings, you’re unlikely to go far wrong.

Martinborough wineries weekend itinerary

While there’s enough to do in/near Martinborough to fill a couple of days, I would recommend doing a weekend trip from Wellington or Palmerston North, that’s enough time to fit in the highlights. My suggested Martinborough weekend itinerary goes like this:

Friday night

Arrive in Martinborough, dinner and cocktails at Crouching Tiger Thai Restaurant.

Line your stomach with a hearty breakfast at Union Square then spend the rest of the day visiting wineries (including a winery lunch) and finishing with a pizza dinner at Colombo Winery.

You’ll probably be wine-d out so sleep in late then head to brunch at Neighbourhood Coffee House or Café Medici to soak up the wine, then get moving with the  Rapaki Walk  before heading back to town to  browse the boutique stores  and pick up some foodie treats to take home.

How to get around Martinborough

Martinborough is a very small town, so when it comes to getting around the town itself, you can just walk. Public transport out this way is sporadic and really exists to link the towns rather than carry you around within Martinborough so if the weather is terrible or you have mobility issues you’ll need a car. Cars can be hired from Wellington or Palmerston North airports.

Need a break from wine?

Martinborough isn’t just about wine and there are plenty of options for things to do, I have a whole post on  things to do in Martinborough that aren’t wineries . Some of the best options are boutique shopping and making the short trip to Cape Palliser.

Cape Palliser Lighthouse

Stay at Martinborough winery accommodation

The Martinborough winery experience doesn’t need to finish when the wineries close, instead, you can choose to stay in one of the winery accommodations in Martinborough. I have a complete guide to Martinborough winery stays to help you choose the best option for your needs/budget.

Getting to Martinborough

The best way to get to Martinborough is to drive, it’s far quicker than managing public transport. You can hire a car in Wellington, either in the CBD or at the airport, from any of the big international operators (Avis, Hertz, Budget, etc). Click here to compare rental car prices and book online.

How to get to Martinborough by train

There is a Wairarapa line train that leaves Wellington Station. However, it does not stop in Martinborough. You have to disembark at Featherston and take the local number 200 bus to Martinborough. Bus services on that line are few and far between, at the time of writing there were only two connecting services a day on weekends.

If you do take the bus-train combo the cost of getting from Wellington to Martinborough will be $20 cash or $12 on a preloaded Snapper card. Details are on the  Metlink website .

In Short: Martinborough wineries

I hope this inspires you to book a winery weekend trip to Martinborough, it’s one of my favourite places in New Zealand!

If you’re looking for other places to visit in the Wellington region, check out our  top weekend trips guide , Kapiti Coast guide , Petone guide or Cape Palliser guide .

Nut Brown Rose

The ultimate 2023 guide to the best Martinborough wineries

This is the ultimate guide to visit the best Martinborough wineries in 2023, including everything you need to know to plan your trip and sample some of the best wine the region has to offer. It also includes how to access each cellar door, what wine tasting entails, and the best Martinborough winery accommodation if you’d prefer an overnight stay. Enjoy!

In the last few years of adulthood, I finally developed a taste for wine. Previously a crude drink that scorched a path down my throat, wine has grown on me and I don’t know if it’s the refined palette that comes with age or regular stress.

Either way, I’m happy to announce I like wine now. And since I’m an adult with money to spend, I’ve been frequenting the Martinborough wine region on the hunt for the best vineyards and wineries to titillate my maturing tongue. (I turn 30 this year and I may be mourning my dwindling youth).

Martinborough is a globally recognised wine region with enough charm to knock my drunken body from the four-seater bike hire. The town centre is a perfect square lined with boutiques and cafes. And the surrounding fields are a scenic sweep of wineries, each cellar door stocked and ready for tastings.

For a well-rounded experience, Martinborough wineries also offer varying options for lunch and accommodation. Below is the ultimate 2023 guide so you can carefully curate your visit to the best wineries and vineyards in Martinborough and enjoy everything the region has to offer.

Enjoy and bring sunscreen.

the ultimate 2023 guide to the best Martinborough wineries

How many vineyards are there in Martinborough?

Since the first collection of vineyards opened in the late 1970s, Martinborough’s wine economy has boomed to over 30 wineries. Most of these are family-owned, highlighting the region’s reputation for character and charm.

A relaxed small-town vibe makes it accessible to the average adult who is newly coming onto the scene of viticulture and wants to do something classy for the weekend (me).

Read here about Martinborough’s history and how a 1978 town meeting yielded a solution that catapulted Martinborough’s low economy into a globally recognised wine region.

For its accolades, Martinborough is on the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail . Beyond the Remutaka Range, tracts of flat land lay in a rain shadow, getting plenty of sunshine – the perfect climate to foster a thriving wine village.

How to plan a Martinborough wine tour

If you’re overwhelmed by the number of wineries in Martinborough and wondering how a cellar door even works, you’re in the right place. This guide aims to demystify tastings and tours so you can live your best life on a visit to Martinborough.

Martinborough winery map

You can easily explore Martinboroug by foot, car or bike. Depending on how far you’d like to cast your net, below is a map to the wineries I discuss in this post. As you can see, you can visit all of them by bike in only 20 minutes total, though that will depend on how much wine you can handle.

wine-tasting map

Martinborough wineries opening hours

Most wineries are open until 5pm. To maximise your day, aim to arrive in Martinborough by 10am. That gives you plenty of time to grab a coffee ( In the Neighborhood is my favourite), pick up your bike rental, hydrate, and apply heaps of sunscreen.

At the tail end of the day, aim to arrive closer to 4pm. Most cellar doors will be finishing up tastings at this time to prepare for the dinner rush.

the ultimate 2023 guide to the best Martinborough wineries

What does wine tasting entail?

When I first ventured into Martinborough, I didn’t know how wine tasting worked, though I was keen to upskill in this critical aspect of adulthood.

Most cellar doors accept walk-ins without booking. They showcase their wines with some background information, and you can select 4-6 options to taste at a cost of $25-$55 per person.

Do note, you likely need a reservation for lunch. On a sunny day, restaurants book out quickly.

opening hours

Although not a full glass, tastings can be rather large. Depending on your tolerance (mine is embarrassingly low), you may find it’s indeed a lot of wine for more than 2 or 3 wineries per day.

Martinborough is most famous for Pinot Noir… my favourite and my mother’s least favourite, which put us at odds for the day. Some producers also specialise in Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.

The viticulturists know their grapes well, and they can advise on where to start and where to finish – for example from their lightest to boldest, or from white to red.

Getting around: Martinborough wine-tasting tour

To explore Martinborough’s best wineries, you have the option of doing a self-guided wine tour or pay for a guided experience that organises everything for you.

Since the wineries are packed in a small area, they are easily accessible by foot or bike. Most also offer free parking if you prefer a car. But for those looking for speciality experiences, a paid tour is a good no-fuss option to pair your wine adventure with other activities the region has to offer.

Martinborough bike hire

One of the most popular ways of getting around Martinborough is cycling. The village is quaint, the roads flat, and the vineyards glimmering with grapes. That makes it the perfect environment for cycling around, with water and sunhat at the ready.

We like Green Jersey in the town centre, with their hallmark green branding zooming around the village. Recently, we rented the four-seater bike for the family and spent the day sweating off the wine calories from vineyard to vineyard.

Staff at Green Jersey also arrange bottle pick-up for every purchase on the winery trail. Handy since the bike gets heavy once you start adding wine bottles to your weight.

Which experiences are best for tours in Martinborough?

There are a myriad of luxury paid experiences in Martinborough to visit some of the best wineries. Some offer private tours, exclusive access, and add-ons to explore the wider region.

Check out Martinborough Wine Tours to look through your options. The Half Day Wine Tasting Tour is popular, which takes you to four delectable wineries hosted by knowledgeable local guides.

Zozo Travel , a Wellington-based tour company, is another popular operator in the area, offering single or multi-day packages to explore Martinborough and the wider Wairarapa region, with an option to pick you up from Wellington.

What are the oldest vineyards in Martinborough?

If you have a flair for the old and appreciate the trend-setters of culture, you may be interested in visiting the oldest vineyards in Martinborough.

From 1979, the oldest vineyards in Martinborough are Dry River Wines , Martinborough Vineyard , and Ata Rangi .

wine-tasting map

Dry River Wines

Dry River Wines opened in 1979, established upon free-draining soils near the Ruamahunga River. They utilise regenerative farming practices, which makes them a winner in my book, growing and harvesting vines in a way that is gentle on the earth. They produce limited quantities of wine, so it may be worthwhile to become a club member and get access to exclusive tastings and unique wines.

Martinborough Vineyard

Established in 1980 and still one of the most popular wineries around, Martinborough Vineyard is famous for its Pinot Noir. Martinborough Vineyard’s location is a climactic analog to Burgundy, the birthplace of Pinot Noir. This is also why the Martinborough region as a whole is famous for Pinot Noir. Their cellar door is open seven days a week and features a few award-winning wines.

Ata Rangi values traditional winemaking and unique vintage expression that relies on climate conditions. They are fully organic and widely respected on the scene. Ata Rangi offer twice-daily tastings, so you’ll need to book in advance. They host in a beautiful space for wine enthusiasts who’d like to learn more about wine-making.

There’s only one way that the vineyards should be experienced, and that is by bike!

Green Jersey Cycle Tours kindly invited me to ride around the vineyards by taking a Martinborough Wine Tour by bike.

Martinborough New Zealand is located in the Wairarapa, near the bottom of the North Island, and wine tasting tours in Wairarapa offer a unique experience for tourists and locals alike.

Try out a Martinborough wine tour by bike this year, close up shot of wine bottles with inscription: Ata Rangi Martinborough, Craighall Riesling 2014, Wine of New Zealand

But travelling between wineries in a car often means that you don’t get full enjoyment of New Zealand’s awe-inspiring scenery.

A wine tour on bikes means that you’ll get a closer connection to the landscape, whilst still enjoying all the Wairarapa wineries and vineyards Martinborough has to offer

Here’s a review of my time on one of the best wine tours in New Zealand, and how you too can explore the vineyards by taking a Martinborough Wine Tour by bike in this beautiful part of the country!

🧳 MUST-HAVE: Before you head out on your trip, make sure you have travel insurance. My #1 recommendation is SafetyWing !

A Little About the Vineyards in Martinborough

Wine tasting in Martinborough is a great way to experience New Zealand’s famous wine culture.

This region delivers some of the best wines in the world, it’s very famous for its pinot noirs! However, less than 2% of New Zealand’s wine production is made in this district.

There are more than 20 boutique wineries in Martinborough, and heading to them to sample their wares is one of the best things to do in Martinborough.

Fortunately, at most of them you are able to enjoy some delicious Martinborough wine tasting, and each Martinborough winery has its own unique twist to its vintages.

The Martinborough wine trail is becoming increasingly popular for visitors, and with good reason.

Many people visiting New Zealand take part in Martinborough wine tours from Wellington, especially because Wellington is a must-see on many people’s itineraries.

Because combining top quality wines with the picturesque Martinborough cycle trails is surely a recipe for success!

Our Martinborough Wine Tour begins!

The first stop of our New Zealand bike tour was the Victorian style town called Greytown, which is only a 15-minute drive from Martinborough, and part of the Featherston to Greytown cycle trail.

Greytown has an abundance of cute cafés, great coffee, and antique shops.

After a nice hot chai to warm us up on the cold winters day, we then went for a stroll down the main street and had a quick look at the shops before arriving at Schoc Chocolates.

This is one of my favourite places in Greytown; you can probably guess why! Here you can taste some of the most bizarre – but delicious – flavoured chocolates.

This includes carrot and coriander, curry and papadum, fennel, chilli, lavender and loads more interesting flavours. What better accompaniment is there to a Martinborough winery tour?

Sometimes you can even see the chocolatiers behind the counter in action! After a lot of taste testing, we then started our journey towards Martinborough.

Just before we hit the town we stopped over at an amazing viewpoint looking over Martinborough so we could take some amazing photographs.

While on our break I learned a bit more about the green landscape that is found in the Wairarapa.

Once we arrived at the shop it was time to get onto our bikes and start riding and drinking around the Martinborough wineries!

We started off in the square where our guide Stuart talked about Martinborough’s history before cycling to our first winery.

The day was pretty gloomy so we got to try 3 vineyards before the rain set in: Schubert, Margrain and Muirlea Rise.

These are some of the best wineries in Martinborough, and each has very beautiful wines with lots of character.

After some great tastings and banter, it was lunchtime! On a sunny day Green Jersey makes a handmade picnic for you, which is included in the tour.

Because it started to rain near the end of our tastings, he took us on a trip to the Lake Ferry restaurant for lunch instead!

A delicious lunch by the fire and a little walk around the Lake Ferry area, it was time to head back to Greytown.

Obviously, this is not something that Stuart includes in every Martinborough bike wine tour, but I loved how he adapted the tour to suit the weather conditions and made sure it didn’t dampen our day in any way!

Some Information about Green Jersey Cycle Tours

Green Jersey Cycle Tours was founded by Stuart and his wife Lucia in 2011. Then later in 2014, Joe and Pam joined their successful business.

They have a number of different tours in the region and a popular cycle tour, which starts in Wellington and goes over the Rimutakas until you get to the Wairarapa.

I really felt like this Martinborough wine tour was personalised. They made you feel like you weren’t just a number like some Martinborough tours can make you feel.

I really enjoyed my time and I would highly recommend doing this tour when you come to the Wairarapa to sample the best Martinborough wineries!

What a great idea to do it by bike. You can’t drink and drive so you can drink and bike your way round 😉 I can’t believe you managed to visit so many in one go, what a champ haha! This looks like so much fun, I’ve not been on a wine tour or New Zealand yet so this may be a match made in travel heaven for me! 🙂

Adelina // PackMeTo

Biking and wine, I’m not sure I could do it! It does sound like a fun (if slightly precarious) way of going from winery to winery though.

Carol from Wayfaring Views

Winetasting AND chocolate? What a great combination.

This sound an interesting experience. I’ve visited vineyards (though in Europe), it’s curious to know more how grapes grow and what happens to them before transforming to the finest wines)) The landscapes of Martinborough look stunning! Thank you for sharing your experience, Anita)

Jema Patterson

Gorgeous photos! Really makes me miss New Zealand. Never got to do a biking wine tour, but would love to give it a go, someday. Looks like plenty else is included in the experience to keep it from being too heavily focused on the wine tasting part (and then bike riding!) part.

traveling9to5er

Looks like a great way to explore the area. Love to stop and the sweet shop on top of the wine.

Hi Anita! I am glad you got some trip idea for the wine lovers:) In combination with bicycle, this is genious trip idea!

Laura Lynch

We love biking around to the wineries. Done it in a few different countries. It’s fun every time!

Christopher

Riding a bike through the vineyards actually makes sense. The air must be so fresh.

RaW | Ramble and Wander

I don’t drink but I still love visiting vineyards because of the sprawling green valleys. This one, with a lake, looks & sounds even better!

Anita Hendrieka

Yes, even if you don’t drink the locations are amazing. There are some other things you can do in the area not related to wine as well. The food is incredible and there’s even a olive farm where you can taste their products too.

Hi Guys Have 3 couples interested in coming to martinborough to do a bike tour through the wineries with wine tasting etc… is there any time of year that you would recommend please. And also are there electric bikes available?

What to Expect from Vineyard Accommodation in Martinborough

Best time to visit the wineries in martinborough, the top 10 vineyard stays in martinborough, more vineyard accommodations in martinborough, faqs about vineyard accommodation in martinborough, final thoughts on vineyard accommodation in martinborough.

If you’ve travelled to New Zealand , you’ve probably noticed it does pretty well in the scenery department. If fact, I’d go as far as saying it boasts some of the best landscapes in the world. The area of Martinborough is no exception, it is seriously beautiful.

Home to sparse green landscapes that seem to go on for days, rows of vines and olive trees and a small-town vibe that keeps you coming back for more. Even if you’re not heading there for a New Zealand wine tour , Martinborough is still worth a visit (but you should definitely visit a winery, or two).

The vineyards in Martinborough are so close to one another that they can be explored by bike! Of course, staying near (or on) your favourite vineyard is a smart move. But whichever you choose, you won’t be far from being able to sample all the good drops in the area.

The vineyard accommodations in Martinborough (also known as wine stays) are pretty diverse. There is a mix of cottages, villas and homes – all located in working Vineyards. How freaking cool is that??

Wake up to a view of the vines before heading to the first tasting of the day… Dreamy.

The wine stays are mostly locally run by the owners of the vineyard who are usually excited to share all about the area and their incredible wines. Many of the vineyard stays come with breakfast supplies and some even come with a cheeky bottle of their finest wine! Wine stays are one of the most unique (and coolest) places to stay in New Zealand .

The best time to visit New Zealand and its wineries is during the summer months (December-March). Who doesn’t love a cheeky wine in the sun? Over the summer, the vibes are high in New Zealand and the sun is (usually) shining.

Many of the wineries and Martinborough accommodations offer gorgeous outdoor areas that are perfect for soaking in the sunshine. Whether that’s a BBQ decking around or beautiful lush gardens – these are best enjoyed over the summer.

However, many of the stays are equipped with fireplaces – so I wouldn’t say no to a winter trip either. A Pinot Noir in the cosy wine cellars also sounds pretty damn inviting too.

Martinborough is located on the north island of New Zealand, just up from Wellington. Many Wellingtonians or people visiting Wellington head up to enjoy the wineries and luscious shine over the weekend and holidays. This can mean the area gets pretty busy during these times!

Get Ready To Toast Martinborough In 2025!

Toast Martinborough, the iconic celebration of Martinborough's world-class wines, is thrilled to announce its much-anticipated return on Sunday 19th January 2025. Mark your calendars for a sumptuous summer day filled with exceptional wines, delicious food, and unforgettable memories.

“Toast is one of the region’s best-loved events,” says Destination Wairarapa chief executive Anna Nielson. “The day spent discovering our wonderful wines, matched with delicious regional food, alongside great music provides relaxed festival fun in an incomparable setting. The Toast experience celebrates so many aspects of what our region excels at and is one which visitors very much look forward to.”

A Toast to Summer

Previously held in November, Toast Martinborough is embracing the summer and moving to January in 2025. The new date of Sunday 19th January brings even better news for Wellingtonians - Monday is Wellington Anniversary Day, giving an extra day off to enjoy the best that Martinborough has to offer.

A new date for Toast

Along with the shift to summer, Toast Martinborough 2025 boasts new festival hours. Starting at 11 am and finishing at 7 pm, you’ll be able to enjoy a leisurely lunch and continue on to make the most of the summer evening.

The long weekend timing also means you can immerse yourself in the region with festivities and experiences running from Friday 17 January to Monday 20 January, because showcasing the region’s finest food and wine takes more than one day.

Welcome to Festival Road

Get ready to explore walkable Toast Martinborough festival in 2025. A picturesque 2.5km stretch between The Runholder and Ata Rangi will be closed to traffic and becoming the Festival Road. This easily accessible, walkable route promises an even more enjoyable experience for all attendees, with only a five to ten-minute walk between each festival site. Transport options will also be available between wineries, and Tranzit will be operating the Festival Shuttle Route, connecting Martinborough Square and the festival with a hop-on and off bus.

Your ticket to eight iconic wineries

Toast Martinborough is delighted to welcome Poppies Martinborough in 2025 for the very first time! This beloved Martinborough winery joins as the sixth site alongside Ata Rangi, Tirohana Estate, Luna Estate and Moy Hall, while Palliser Estate joins Te Kairanga and Martinborough Vineyard at The Runholder.

“It’s an absolute privilege for Poppies Martinborough to be invited into the new Toast Martinborough format. It’s an exciting time and new direction for an iconic event, and we can’t wait to create some new memories with an amazing selection of Martinborough wineries and wine lovers,” say Poppy and Shayne Hammond of Poppies.

Food lovers will look forward to culinary creations from the kitchens of Egmont St Eatery, Tirohana, Trestle & Mortar, Plonk, Graze, Moy Hall, Colombo, Rose & Smith and The Runholder. Locally brewed beers will be available courtesy of Garage Project, Choice Bros, Parrotdog and more, while live music from The Relatives, The Satisfactions, Shaun Preston and other acts will keep you entertained all day.

VIP experiences

Elevate your Toast Martinborough experience and become a VIP! Dine with winemakers, explore a special vintage room, or take a masterclass - the choice is yours.

There’s an app for that

The Toast App has everything you need for planning your festival experience, with the full program released three months before the big day. Along with wine lists, dining menus, and entertainment line-ups, the Toast App lets you see how full each festival site is to help you make the most of your day.

Travel and accommodation

Return bus travel will be available from the Wellington region, Palmerston North and Wairarapa region to the Festival. Tranzit bus tickets will be available when tickets launch on 12th June.

Making a weekend of it?

As well as Martinborough’s varied accommodation options, Tauherenikau Glamping Village returns to Toast Martinborough in 2025. Bookings will be available from 12th June.

Other events celebrating the best of Martinborough will be on throughout the weekend including opening festivities on the Friday evening and the return of the Lighthouse Gin Garden Party on Saturday 18th January. Plus many more beyond Toast events to be announced.

Limited Tickets: Don't Miss Out!

Toast Martinborough 2025 is set to be an intimate and unforgettable event. With only 6,000 tickets available through ticketing partner iTICKET, make sure you’re part of this summer celebration by securing your tickets early.
