Visiting the Double 8 Alpaca Ranch in Virginia is guaranteed to be a wonderful and educational day out for all the family.

“We are located in Purcellville, Virginia on Harpers Ferry Road. We offer private farm tours for your family or small groups.  Our tours are very educational.  You get to experience up close encounters with our furry friends and take memorable photos or selfies.

We have been raising alpacas and harvesting alpaca fleece in a sustainable and healthy way for ourselves and our community since 2005.  We chose to raise alpacas due to their gentle nature and exquisite fleece, also called fiber.  Concentrating on sound conformation, reproduction, notable genetics, temperament, and fleece characteristics are the main goals of Double 8’s breeding program.  Production females, herd sires, stud services, and non-breeders are available for purchase.

The nutrition and training of alpacas at Double 8 Alpaca Ranch are of utmost importance. We believe that a nutritionally sound and well-trained alpaca is a happy and healthy alpaca.  Our alpacas can be handled for routine health tasks such as weighing, toenail trimmings, de-worming, shearing.

The fiber that we harvest from our herd is either sent to mill or hand processed here at the farm.  We sell yarn, roving, and products such as socks, hats, scarves, gloves, and felted items, some hand-made and some made at our mills.

Double 8 Alpaca Ranch offers an array of services, such as consulting with and mentoring new alpaca farmers, farm tours, weddings, birthdays, and educational events for local school, 4-H, girl scouts and boy scouts.  Even the German Consulate and a couple local veteran groups came to learn about farming with alpacas and agri-tourism here at Double 8 Alpaca Ranch.

If you are eager to either learn about or meet our alpacas & Llamas, please book your tour below. We look forward to sharing our beautiful farm and animals with you!”

Best Alpaca Farms to Visit in NJ

Did you know New Jersey has the best alpaca farms around? When you’re thinking about a cute, cuddly animal to visit with littles, you’re most likely picturing puppies, kittens, or barnyard animals. But you probably haven’t considered an adorable, gentle-hearted alpaca. Yes, New Jersey is a hub for alpaca farms—there are over 10 alpaca farms around the Garden State. Your littles will love cozying up to the gentle creatures and learning how their wool is used to make lots of products yearly (all 100% safe and animal-friendly). And if you are in the mood to see more animals, stop by one of the petting zoos in NJ . (featured photo credit: istock/MayaCom)

Why you need to visit an alpaca farm in New Jersey with your family

If you don’t know much about alpacas, here’s the scoop—alpacas are gentle-hearted, soft, cozy animals from the camelid family, including llamas and camels. These cozy creatures live between 18 and 24 years of age and come in 22 natural colors. You may have seen by-products of their fur at farmer’s markets or craft fairs since their sheared wool is used to make throws, shawls, scarves, sweaters, gloves, socks, and other items. What makes these animals unique is their ability to communicate—they only need to be trained 3 or 4 times to do something before they understand and retain the information. They recognize commands from humans and communicate with each other by humming. Ready to plan your visit to an alpaca farm in New Jersey ?

How to Have an Alpaca Farm Visit that Everyone - Including You - Enjoys

  • October 27, 2015

young boy feeding alpacas grain from his hand

  • What is the purpose the visit – for you and for them?   Don’t bother giving them the pitch of how wonderful alpacas are to raise if it’s a grandmother with grandchildren just looking for an outdoor afternoon together.   If it’s a school visit, we usually send an information sheet ahead of time for the teacher to briefly go over alpacas, where they came from and how their fleece is utilized.  In a school setting, kids are relatively focused on the abstract idea of an alpaca.  Once they are on the farm, comprehension of all useful facts seems to plummet.  We have tractors to climb on, dogs to pet and alpacas to feed.  An alpaca’s South American origins are of little value to a third grader at this point.    What we usually do is bring either the buyer inside our house or the kids / business group in our front lawn and give about 10-15 minutes of information about the alpacas before they see any of the animals.  We talk about when they have babies, shearing, the greatness of alpaca fiber.  This way, many questions will be asked and answered ONCE instead of multiple times by many people.

people petting alpacas in a barn

  • Which brings me to my next topic – information.   If you ask 10 alpaca farmers the same question, you will get 20 different answers.  If you are new to the business, research the best you can the most Frequently Asked Questions.  Tell them about your experiences. Let people know if you do not have the answer, but you will follow up.  This is a great excuse to re-contact the visitors in a couple of days and follow up as potential customers in the future.
  • What is your timeframe?   Our farm visits usually wrap up in 45-50 minutes.  What do you want to do with your guests?  Feed the alpacas?  Catch them and be hands on?  Look at fleece? See products?  Have an idea of what you would like to go over before they get to your door.
  • Kid appropriate – what is the age range of the kids that will be attending?   What is their background?  Some schools are all about the birds and the bees and others do not want to cover that topic at all.  On occasion, some our ladies and gents get a little frisky on each side of the fence.  Separate them before hand if you do not want to talk about breeding.
  • Is your bathroom ready for mass usage?   Over the 11 years, probably a thousand different people have been in my downstairs bathroom.  Clean it before and after.  Just saying…
  • Remind guests to dress appropriately for the weather and the farm.   In Montana, muck boots can be a fashion statement.  Those from a big city may think otherwise.  I have offered boots to many visitors that were wearing patent leather shoes, as they readily absorb odor.  This is a nice courtesy to this person as well as everyone they are driving / flying with that is not that impressed with a continued alpaca smell.
  • Spitting – our alpacas are well adapted to people.  But if we have 80 alpacas vying for little hands with feed in them, there could be some crossfire.  You may want to warn your visitors as you deem appropriate the likelihood of this green phenomenon.
  • Are you going to be hands-on?  We usually catch an alpaca or two to touch, check out the teeth and toes and just to be close.  Do you have an alpaca ready for this?  You may want to do some intensive work in the days leading up to the farm visit if this is part of the tour.  And, have the alpaca(s) already caught instead of chasing it in the pasture.

alpaca farm visit

  • Make sure they have contact information to know how they can get a hold of you – or your products – in the future.  We have cards we give out at the end of the tour to ensure they know our website and the stores we sell at.
  • Insurance .  Alpacas are sweet, cute and friendly.  Who could they hurt? A strategically placed kick can really sting, as can tripping in a hole, falling down a staircase, cutting a hand on a pitchfork or toenail clippers.  Talk to your insurance agent and make sure you are covered for farm visits.

Alpacas are members of the Camelid family and are found indigenously in South America. Alpaca husbandry is centuries old in Bolivia, Chile and Peru, but new to the United States since 1984 when they were first imported to North America. Alpacas are partial ruminants. They have three stomach compartments, chew cud and efficiently convert grass and hay into energy. They live 15 to 25 years, are approximately three feet tall at the withers and on average weigh about 150 pounds. There are two breeds of alpacas which are differentiated by their fleece. Huacayas have fluffy, crimpy fiber. Suris have straight fiber that hangs down in long locks. Alpacas are intelligent, gentle, curious creatures. They are relatively self-sufficient and hardy. Income can be earned on alpacas without killing them. They produce an "annual crop" of fleece (an average of eight pounds per animal) which is sold by the ounce. Alpaca fleece is considered a specialty fiber in the fashion world. It is more luxurious than cashmere, extremely light and warm due to its thermal nature, very resilient and incredibly fine to touch. Alpacas provide attractive investment potential and financial tax advantages. To read more, click here . We currently have 44 alpacas on our farm, with 15 crias due to arrive next summer! We have package deals available if you're ready to start your own herd! Pricing depends on multiple variables, including lineage, age, conformation, fleece quality, and breeding/birthing experience. Where We Live

"Discovered in 1805 by Lewis and Clark, the Palouse is a geologic wonder unlike any other area.  Mesmerizing beauty and a sweeping landscape of rolling hills and plateaus greet visitors to this distinctive region north of the Snake River in Southeast Washington and North Central Idaho. This is the place simply to drive leisurely along and gently curving highways, sprinkled with antique shops and wineries, with easy access to hiking and biking and above all, photography. If you ever needed to stop the world and relax, this is the place for it. This land was originally occupied by the nomadic Palus tribe, renowned as expert equestrians. It is generally thought that French-Canadian fur traders converted the name of the tribe to the more familiar French word pelouse, which means "land with short thick grass." The area has since become known for growing wheat and legumes and is home to small towns with a rich history and charm. Pullman, Washington and Moscow, Idaho are the main hub communities. Settlers came to the area in 1871, for the abundant grassland and available timber for building. The rolling hills of the Palouse offer a unique agricultural experience for local farmers. In the spring, the loess hills are bright green and speckled with an array of beautiful wildflowers. Before harvest in the fall, the hills are brushed with the golden colors of ripe crops, and some fields are filled with bright yellow canola. Area crops include wheat, barley, peas, lentils, chickpeas, garbanzo beans, and canola. Peas, lentils and chickpeas have been grown on the Palouse for over 100 years, generally as rotation crops with wheat. Farmers appreciate the special nitrogen-fixing properties of these three crops, whose roots gathenitrogen from the air and fix it into the soil surrounding the roots. This natural process helps reduce the farmers' dependence on commercial fertilizers, and this nitrogen benefit remains even after harvest, giving a boost to the wheat crop that is planted on that same field in the next season." - Moscow Chamber of Commerce

It began in 1993, when alpacas were featured on the Today Show. Joyce Gray had to have one. One turned into ten, and today we are almost to fifty! We were the second alpaca farm in Idaho. Now there are many farms scattered throughout the state and even more dot the other 49 states. Joyce Gray was my "Nana" (grandmother) and she had the vision to make this farm something amazing and different. She convinced my parents, Paul and Connie, to also become alpaca farmers and join in the adventure about a year later. I was just 7 years old when Nana bought the first one, Remy. I was hooked on these adorable critters and still am today. Nana had a passion for these animals that she instilled in me. My childhood consisted of trips to the Veterinarian , priceless moments spent with my grandparents, roadtrips to regional shows, help running our Country Store, halter-training alpacas, and lots of poop scooping. It was perfect. In 2002, my world changed. Nana passed away from brain cancer. We downsized our herd, closed the store, and life changed dramatically. I grew up, got married, and moved away. My Papa got remarried to a sweet lady, Karil, about a year after my Nana has passed. They managed to get the farm back up and running again, but I didn't live close by, and I missed the farm. I now had kids and wanted them to experience the same childhood that I had had.   A joke was made by me, in July 2015, that we should buy Papa and Karil out and let them "retire". The joke became reality later that year, and Grazing Hills Alpacas is now our life and a dream come true! The grand vision is still there to have a farm that is different and unique. So, we launched our B&B in February 2016, opened our store in April 2018, and now plan to build an Event Center Venue next.

We are glad you found us!  - Katie   We are Cory, Katie, Raina, Janelie, Eleana, Angelina, Brynn and Cora DeWinkle.   Welcome to our adventure!

Visit Our Alpaca Farm in Maui for a Fun Time! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We had a wonderful time at Maui Alpaca!!! How can you not smile when you look at their cute faces?! Our guide Erin was great! We learned so much and got to meet and feed the "girls", carry an Angora rabbit and experience the process of spinning alpaca fiber into yarn. We would definitely go back!

The Maui Alpaca farm was a fantastic experience! I would highly recommend visiting if you have the chance, be sure to book in advance. The alpaca were extremely friendly and gentle. Feeding them in the morning was a blast. This would be a great activity for kids and anyone who loves animals. Our guide was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming. It's really worth the drive and I would go back for other options in the future!

We had an absolutely wonderful experience visiting Maui Alpaca and I recommend the experience to anyone looking to an upcountry adventure. We were able to feed the ladies their morning snack, learn more about their habits, give them neck rubs and spin some yarn. You will also get to send time with the ever so soft Angora bunnies! There's also a cute little shop for take home treasures. Janet and her farm helper were warm and welcoming.

Highly, HIGHLY recommend doing a tour up here during your stay. We did a 4pm tour and it was such a lovely way to end our day. Absolutely serene surroundings wonderfully calm walk with beautiful animals. Our guide was great and we learned so much and had such a great time! Holding the bunnies was certainly a highlight. 100% worth the trip.

We did the Paniolo Picnic and it was terrific! We enjoyed lunch as the alpacas grazed on their hay nearby, and then had a detailed introduction and interaction with the animals courtesy of Erin. This was followed by a visit with the angora rabbits - a thoroughly enjoyable and informative afternoon!

The farm experience was awesome! I learned a lot about alpacas and angora rabbits. I wish they have more activities tho. Rebecca is so patient and answered all of our questions especially we have our little niece and nephew with us. Will definitely come back to see the cute alpacas and rabbits.

We had an awesome time at Maui Alpaca. Our host was so sweet and knowledgeable - she was a fiber artist so she knew a lot about the fibers! Super fun to interact with the animals and learn about fiber! Beautiful setting. Totally recommend.

Maui Alpaca was the most pleasant experience and made my alpacas dreams come true during my honeymoon! Meeting the Angora bunnies was also amazing. It was such a special and memorable day! The staff was also very kind, patient, knowledgeable, and personable. Everyone visiting Maui should visit Maui Alpaca. I will be sure to go back on my future trips to Maui!

A really wonderful experience. Our guide took a lot of time to explain all about the Alapaca's and we spent over an hour with them as well as the Angora bunnies. And the bunnies are a must see. Just a very pleasant experience and a highlight for us after many tours of coffee, Goat's, pineapple, etc, this was the best tour on Maui for us.

The 5 best alpaca farms in the netherlands.

Tags: Alpaca

Categories: Fun

Have you ever had the pleasure of spending time with a herd of Alpacas? These charming creatures are naturally friendly and curious. You no longer need to hop on a plane to experience them as many live right here in The Netherlands. Alpacas are not to be confused with their beefy, bigger cousins, Llamas. Llamas are beasts of burden while Alpacas are smaller, sweeter, and glossier. Both come from a large part of South America, stretching from Chile to Ecuador. Alpacas and Llamas are often closely linked to Peru.

Baby Alpaca Boom

Alpaca herds in the Netherlands have been increasing in size. It’s estimated that 2,000 alpacas graze the grasses of our Dutch countryside . Spread over 130 Alpaca farms, these cute Andean imports have many appealing features. The most obvious being their kind nature. They also grow a highly desirable soft and fluffy fleece that is sustainable. Alpaca wool is like cashmere. They can also help boost your ‘happy feelings’ when you spend time with them. Alpacas enjoy being social with humans. Many Dutch farms will allow you to pet them, take them for walks, or even do some Yoga in their company. It’s unclear if the Alpaca’s themselves get into any poses, but here’s hoping.

5 Best Alpaca Farms in the Netherlands

List of Alpaca Farms in the Netherlands

We thought it was time to list some of the most desirable Alpaca farms in the Netherlands. You can buy some of their impressive wool or plan a visit to walk with them in nature:

Alpaca Experience (AKA Alpacahoeve) Klinkenberg

(90 minute walk E25 or Yoga E25pp)

You will find one of our favorite Alpaca farms in the Netherlands close to Sassenheim. It’s a short drive outside of Amsterdam through the famous tulip fields of Holland. You can book a walk with the furry friends from the Andes here. If walking is not for you, you can also book in for a yoga session . The happy alpacas will stay close by and add some extra zen to the event. Call before visiting to check out what is currently allowed by the Dutch Government.

“Friendly and curious. Our alpacas are perfect companions for everything from invigorating hikes to blissful yoga … Come to the farm and experience our piece of Andes, here in the green heart of the Netherlands.”

River Forelands – Floodplains Wamel

(Group Walk E20 pp – Private walk, Picnic or Wagon Ride at various prices)

This Alpaca Farm in the Netherlands has combined nature and water with the joy of Alpaca time. You can book a walk with the fluffy little bundles of joy, either privately or in a group. Prices vary and you get a little pep talk at the start to bring you up to date with all the latest Alpaca news and info. Picnics can also be arranged or a nice, covered wagon drive. River Forelands want to make sure everyone has a good time, so you also get to feed the Alpacas. Food is love so, honey, feed these cuties and fall for them!

Tienda Molino – Panningen

(Walks not possible)

The project started in 2006 when this was a poultry farm and the owners fell in love with Alpacas on Australian TV? This Alpaca farm specializes in Black Alpacas. They focus on producing the shiniest, fluffiest, silkiest of fleeces. The herds come from the UK and Australia. Tienda Molino selects the UK and Australian Alpacas for their good genetics. The farm boasts many awards and certificates. Alpaca walking or bonding is not a service currently offered by Tienda Molina.

Alpaca Boerderij (Teatime) Lemelerveld

(Tea options starting at 22,50 pp up to 44,50 pp – no walking option)

The only thing better than Alpacas is baby Alpacas (crias) and why not combine it all with tea-time? Seems like a logical pairing. This farm currently has 3 crias with super cute names, Olijfje, Oushi & Cuzko! You can also meet llamas here, and a lot of other animals too like turtles, Rheas (mini ostriches), pigs and more. There are various tea options to go for and the luxury is super exciting. Sadly walking with Alpacas is not offered here but tea and cuddles more than makeup for it.

alpaca farm visit

Rzadkiewa – Alpaca and Falabella Experience

(Various prices starting from 29.95)

This Alpaca farm in the Netherlands is also home to Falabella’s (tiny horses). The farm has been breeding Alpacas since 1992 and they really love their work. Their passion shows in their extensive knowledge about alpacas. The farm’s location is very far south and close to the coast. They would like you to pay when you book. They also understand the need for people to walk with their herds, so a visit and walk is possible. Alpacas and Falabellas – double the pleasure.

Always Plan your visit

Make sure to reach out and contact the farm and plan your visit. What we can do, and who we can do it with tends to often change these days. All farms mentioned are doing their best to keep up to date with safety rules. For more up-to-date Alpaca info be sure to visit the Alpaca Association Benelux .

If you want to try out some more fun activities that don’t involve animals, why not check out our list of quirky museums or join a football league ? Or, maybe you prefer a more active hobby like cycling? we have a list of bike routes with stunning views to inspire you.

That said, a day in nature with a friendly herd of Alpacas is definitely not a day wasted.

Alpaca farm near me: Map shows locations you can visit for free as popularity soars amid Geronimo saga

Rural and city farmers are driving the nationwide rush, fuelled by the fight to save one alpaca named geronimo, from treks and cheese, to therapy and even weddings.

Alpacas at Town End Farm near Kendal in the Lake District National Park, Cumbria, UK (Photo by Tim Graham/Getty Images)

They’re charmingly cute, in a way you can’t quite put your finger on, and just the thing to get your spirits up – you can’t help but smile at the thought of alpacas. And the UK is fast taking the woolly creatures, originally native to the Andes in South America, to its heart.

There are thought to be at least 40,000 alpacas here, and their numbers are growing as we embrace alpaca experiences from guided walks to animal therapy . They are even in demand for themed weddings.

One in particular, an eight-year-old black alpaca from south Gloucestershire called Geronimo, has garnered legions of fans in recent weeks – for all the wrong reasons.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has ordered that Geronimo, who arrived from New Zealand four years ago, be euthanised because he has tested positive for bovine tuberculosis (bTB).

Geronimo’s owner, farmer Helen Macdonald, says he’s healthy and the tests were false positives – and is fighting them all the way. A petition has gained 100,000 signatures.

The UK’s alpaca breeders are enjoying a boom in demand. A stud male can fetch around £2,000, while younger animals sell for upwards of £500. As well as the gentle creatures attracting visitors to farms across the country , alpaca wool and cheese are increasingly popular.

The Claireville Alpacas team preparing for an Alpaca themed wedding this year

Based in Fife, Scotland, Claire Blyth, 25, who runs Claireville Alpacas farm with her family, says interest in purchases of the animal has been “absolutely insane” this month.

“I think they’re just something new and interesting, and there’s also a draw saleswise because they can guard other livestock,” she says. “So, a lot of people who have hens are looking into buying them to protect their flock.”

Duncan Pullar, chief executive officer of The British Alpaca Society , says the current popularity of alpaca experiences is a trend sparked by enthusiasts that steadily snowballed.

“A few pioneers started paid-for alpaca trekking businesses in the UK, and in the last 10 years or so more and more of these have cropped up, and public interest has shot up,” he says.

“Alpacas are quite inquisitive about people, their fur is really soft and nice to touch, and they’re typically as tall as the average adult.”

National Alpaca Farm Day: Free open days Alpaca farms across the UK will hold complimentary experience days for the public from Saturday 4 September to Sunday 5 September . This initiative is the first of its kind nationwide, launched by The British Alpaca Society this year. They’ve mapped the locations of venues participating below.

Alpacas are relatively low maintenance for experienced farmers, Pullar says. “They feed on hay or grass, and they just need to be sheared at least once a year so they don’t overheat in the summer, and their toenails need to be trimmed regularly to prevent them getting too long,” he says.

They are, however, especially prone to a few infections, such as intestinal worms, as well as bTB. “You can simply vaccinate against these things,” says Pullar. “But it requires regular maintenance and you need to protect your herd by having good biosecurity in the first place.”

Blyth and her team were ahead of the trend for alpacas, welcoming their first one to the farm in 2015. They now have up to 40 at any one time.

“I grew up on the farm, and it’s primarily a poultry farm that produces eggs, so we didn’t have this all in mind when we first got them,” she explains.

Now, the farm breeds alpacas, and is also open to the public for curated alpaca walks, school events, and even animal therapy.

“Alpaca therapy [petting and interaction with alpacas to reduce stress] can be really helpful for people with anxiety, or kids with autism and ADHD,” says Blyth. “We do a lot of work with people with other disabilities, too, and in care homes.”

While alpaca walking tours are surging in popularity, Pullar says that the wool trade is not far behind. “A lot of people will use alpaca fibres, that they gather after shearing them, to knit with,” he explains.

Claire Blyth, 25, has a herd of up to 40 alpacas at any one time on her farm in Fife, Scotland

“There’s a small but keen movement of hand spinners that like to use alpaca fibres and spinning wheels to create yarn.”

He also explains that baby alpacas, known as crias, have softer and finer fleece. “It’s akin to cashmere when made into yarn, but as they get older, their fleeces tend to get a bit thicker,” he says.

“So the value of alpaca yarn is directly related to their age, and it’s more expensive than sheep’s wool typically, just because of scarcity by comparison.”

Based in Swansea, Hannah Williams, 48, sells alpaca wool yarn and knitted goods, through her farm’s Etsy store, and in person. “In wintertime, I sell quite a lot of scarves,” she says.

“I actually found it really difficult to break into the yarn business, but I do take part in local fairs, too, and I’ve learned to spin, crochet, and weave to make the most out of my alpaca’s fleeces.”

Like Blyth, she grew up around livestock, and initially brought a few alpacas on board because she couldn’t resist how “cute and fluffy” she found them, having spotted them at a Royal Agricultural Show.

“They also seemed really mellow, and I thought, ‘Oh, I could really have a couple of these as pets,’ so I did after a bit of research,” she says.

They have now been on her farm for 10 years. “I’ve got a herd of about 38 at the minute, having started off with three, as pets,” says Williams, founder of Penrhallt Alpacas .

“I’m born and bred in the farming world, my grandfather used to be the village dairy man. He took a horse and cart around to deliver people’s milk, and raised beef cattle.”

Tapping into the side-hustle economy, Williams works full-time in retail banking but has built her alpaca farming business around her career. “I love the farming life, and wanted to carry on farming the land that my family had,” she explains.

Her farm offers intimate one-to-visits for families and small groups. “With these, people can feed them by hand, visit the female herd who are a bit nosier, and a bit more fun, as they compete for the food,” Williams explains.

For Blyth, alpaca-themed weddings are the next big project. “We’ve just started those within the last few months,” she says. “But we hit the ground running with our first one, because now I have wedding requests for alpacas coming out my ears.”

Visiting a Russian Alpaca Farm?!

Hey everyone!

Last weekend, we went on a staff trip to the northern outskirts of Moscow, to visit an alpaca farm. Now, I know what you’re thinking… Russia has alpacas? Well, yes! Of course, they’re not native to the country, but the animals all seemed to be thriving and happy and healthy, and were super friendly too! I should probably add that none of this post is sponsored in any way, this is simply me talking about my experience on a fun day out!

The farm is located to the north of Moscow, and we took a pre-booked coach to get there. From Moscow’s Altufyevo metro station, it took around an hour, to an hour and a half to get to the alpaca farm. We were so lucky with the weather, and it was fairly quiet when we got there. I think we were the only group for most of the day!

alpaca farm visit

We went to a farm which is called Russian Alpacas, as far as I can remember, and they have a really fun Instagram account if you want to see some super cute Alpaca photos! We went on a really sunny day, and unfortunately I did get a bit sunburned, and of course the mosquitoes found me too… so that did make for a slightly uncomfortable trip back home!

The family that owns the farm started out by only owning a few alpacas, which they bought from the USA, and slowly they started to grow their business, as more and more people in Moscow were interested in seeing these cute animals for themselves! Something new that I learnt, which actually makes a lot of sense now, is that alpacas are related to camels… which unfortunately does mean that they have a habit of spitting sometimes! However, I was lucky enough not to have to experience that first hand!

alpaca farm visit

I would say this location is perfect for families and alpaca lovers all-round. You can go in and feed the alpacas, you can pet them and you can even get selfies with them, so if you’re ever in the Moscow area and this sounds like your cup of tea, then I’d highly recommend it! As we went on a staff trip, I don’t know the full costs but a quick look on their website should give you all the details you would need!

If you have allergies to horses, or rabbits, or any animals that live in hay (cue the hayfever symptoms) then I’d definitely recommend taking some kind of allergy medication before hand. I know that sounds obvious, but I wasn’t sure how my allergies would play up so I thought ahead. Even at that, I did notice my nose to be a little itchy, so I can’t imagine how bad it could have got if I didn’t think about this!

Overall, this was such a fun experience, and we were lucky to spend an entire day out in the middle of nowhere, away from the city, and to completely relax in a beautiful setting, surrounded by nature!
