And while there are great Indian restaurants in most major cities of South Africa, the food may not be the same as what you get at home. So, we normally suggest that you opt for continental dishes. Another plus point: most chefs in South Africa are trained in Jain style cuisine, so you can easily order food without onions or garlic.

How soon should I book my South Africa holiday?

If you are travelling from November to February, we recommend booking well in advance to get the properties of your choice. Christmas is usually very busy in South Africa (it’s peak season and the summer months) and most good properties (especially the safari lodges) get booked out 3-6 months in advance.

If you’re are travelling during from April to October, it will be easier to get space as this is usually the off-peak season. It is winter in the Southern Hemisphere, however, it does not get too chilly. It is also the best time to go for safaris, and well in time with Indian summer holidays.

Do I need any vaccinations to go to South Africa?

No, you don’t, unless you are travelling to South Africa from a country where you need to take a vaccination. Read more about this here. Malaria is prevalent in some areas of South Africa. Generally, our Indian guests do not take any medications for this, but carry a mosquito-repellant like Odomos.

How to get to South Africa from India?

There are no longer any direct flights from India to South Africa. You will have to have one stopover, either somewhere in the Middle East (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha), or Ethiopia, or Kenya. The shortest flight from Mumbai, Delhi or Bangalore to Johannesburg is usually Emirates, taking approximately 13 – 15 hours including stopover.

However, Emirates is usually more expensive than other airlines. We have travelled on Emirates, Etihad, Kenya Airways & Ethiopian Airlines, and all airlines are perfectly safe and comfortable to travel on. Ethiopian Airliens and Kenya Airways are usually a little more basic, but cheaper as well.

How shall I book my tickets from India to South Africa?

We can either help you book your tickets via our agent, or you can book it yourself (online or offline). Before you book your flights, it’s good to have an itinerary in place because you will usually book an open jaw ticket (eg. arrive in Johannesburg and depart from Cape Town).

Is South Africa a safe holiday destination?

BCCI announces India’s squad for South Africa tour 2023

BCCI announced squads for all formats for the upcoming India tour of South Africa 2023 which is scheduled to begin on December 10.

India’s squad for South Africa tour 2023

India is scheduled to play three T20Is, three ODIs, and Two Tests against South Africa. After completing their home tour against Australia, India will be facing South Africa in a home-away series.  On this occasion, BCCI announced their squads for all three formats.

The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had been rested for the T20I and ODI series. With the Indian skipper being rested in short and limited over series, KL Rahul was named as the ODI captain while Suryakumar Yadav will be leading the side in the T20I format.

The Indian skipper will be leading the side for the Test series and Indian star Virat Kohli will be returning to international cricket after the World Cup for the Test match against South Africa.

The squad was announced by the BCCI chairman Ajit Agarkar after his discussion with other board members and head coach Rahul Dravid in New Delhi. The board members also discussed the Indian side’s World Cup performance.

It was reported earlier that Kohli has requested a break in the limited overs format. He was named as the Player of the Tournament in the ICC tournament where he emerged as the highest run scorer. Kohli recorded for most centuries in the ODI after smashing his 50th century during the semifinal match against New Zealand.

While announcing the squad, BCCI said, “Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had requested the Board for a break from the white-ball leg of the tour.”

Sanju Samson and Rajat Patidar were named in the ODI squad. Sai Sudharsan earned his maiden call-up for the ODI series. On the other hand, Bumrah will join the squad for the test matches.

While speaking about Shami’s availability BCCI official said, “Mohd. Shami is currently undergoing medical treatment and his availability is subject to fitness.”

IPL 2024: Ishan Kishan reveals what he did during his break from cricket

N EW DELHI: Ishan Kishan 2.0 is here. For this iteration of the wicketkeeper batter, it is more important to focus on developing personally and assisting Mumbai Indians in their IPL 2024 campaign than pushing himself to be included in India's T20 World Cup roster.

IPL ORANGE CAP | IPL PURPLE CAP | IPL POINTS TABLE During his recent sabbatical from cricket, Kishan highlighted his rampaging 34-ball 69 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru as an indicator of his renewed approach.

"About the World Cup, it is not in my hands and I am taking things very easy right now. You have to take one match at a time. One needs to understand that a lot is not in the hands of the players," said Kishan in the post-match press meet.

"It's (IPL) a very big tournament and you do not want to overstep. I am just taking one game at a time and however I can help the team, (my motto is) let's do it," he added.

Kishan has been the subject of controversy after he asked for a vacation during India's December tour of South Africa. Kishan's last performance for India was in the T20I series against Australia in November 2023.

Kishan, who is 25 years old, was not selected for any of the next national assignments, and India head coach Rahul Dravid had emphasized that Kishan must play domestic cricket in order to make a return.

In addition to Shreyas Iyer, Kishan was not given consideration for the BCCI central contract for the October 2023-September 2024 year since the board seriously disapproved of his absence from domestic cricket.

Kishan claimed that despite everything, he practiced his cricket.

The Jharkhand player participated in the DY Patil T20 Cup in February, marking his comeback to competitive cricket. He also trained at a private facility in Baroda alongside MI captain Hardik Pandya.

"I was practicing as well as I could," Kishan replied when asked what he did during his break from cricket.

"I had taken (an) off (time) and when you take an off, a lot of it is gets spoken about on social media," said Kishan.

"What we can do is that if you have taken time (out) for yourself, use it the best way possible for yourself," he said.

His strike-rate of 182.95 has given his team an early advantage, and he is currently MI's top run scorer with 161 runs from five matches, demonstrating that his dedication has paid off in the IPL.

But Kishan refused to use his performance as a means of proving his critics wrong.

"There is nothing like that (that) I want to prove to someone. I just have to go there and enjoy.

"I have learned that you do not have to add pressure on yourself about these things which are not in your hand. You have to figure out what are (your) controllables and what are (your) uncontrollables," he said.

In the meanwhile, Kishan claimed to have focused on his thinking, which has strengthened him as a person.

"This is where getting a good mindset works. The Ishan Kishan of the past would not have left the balls alone if the bowling was good in the first two overs.

"But with time I have learned that a 20-over game is also very long and you can take your time and move forward while keeping the belief in yourself," he said.

In light of MI's shaky start to this IPL season, Kishan stated that empathy was one of the traits he aimed to cultivate in himself.

"These were the few things which helped me in the period and even now. We (MI) lost (a few) matches but most of the players were keen to work with the rest.

"It was never about us performing well individually and not knowing what other players are going through," he said.

Of course, Kishan would know that too well as he has been in that shoe a short while back.

"I also know when someone is not doing well, how they feel like. I also felt it changed for me, that if someone is not doing well then let's talk to them and find their mindset. I think all these changes have helped me after the break," he added.

The three-day festival celebrates the completion of the fasting month of Ramadan by Muslims across the world.

As a new moon was not sighted on Monday evening after Maghrib prayers, Muslims in Saudi Arabia and neighbouring countries will fast one more day, completing 30 days of Ramadan. The first day of Eid will then be celebrated on Wednesday, April 10.

How do Muslims celebrate Eid?

Children, dressed in new clothes, are offered gifts and money to celebrate the joyous occasion.

Girls and women in many countries decorate their hands with henna. The celebration for Eid begins the night before as women gather in neighbourhoods and large family gatherings for the application of henna.

In some countries, families visit graveyards to offer their respects to departed family members right after the morning prayers.

It is common for Muslim-majority countries to decorate their cities with lights and hold festivities to commemorate the end of the fasting month.

For some 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza this Eid, this will be the first Muslim religious holiday after more than 33,000 people have been killed in Israeli attacks. With little food aid, and very limited water, Gaza’s Eid al-Fitr will be mired in destruction amid the continuing attacks.

The most popular greeting is “Eid Mubarak” (Blessed Eid) or “Eid sa’id” (Happy Eid). Eid greetings also vary depending on the country and language.
