How incredible is the Tour Championship money this year? Just ask Rory McIlroy.

The FedEx Cup Playoffs bonuses were designed to reward the PGA Tour’s top players for a full season of achievement, and one look at the Tour Championship payout structure makes it clear just how lucrative it is to make it to the Tour’s top 30.

Take Sahith Theegala , for instance.

‘The fact that I’m even on the PGA Tour is pretty absurd’: Pro opens up after making Tour Championship

The 24-year-old PGA Tour rookie had an incredible first season on Tour. No wins, but enough close calls and top 10s to earn his way into the Tour Championship. Even a 28th-place (next to last) finish on Sunday will garner $520,000 (Will Zalatoris will claim the $500,000 30th-plaze prize after an injury forced him to withdraw from the BMW and Tour Championships) — that’s a tidy 16 percent of his current season-earnings total of $3.12 million.

While that pales in comparison to Rory McIlroy’s $18 million that you were reminded about so often on the broadcast, it’s no chump change.

And then, of course, there’s Scottie Scheffler. The FedEx Cup’s No. 1 seed has already banked a record-breaking sum of earnings this year, with a whopping $14.04 million. While he came up short on Sunday, he and Sungjae Im split the second and third-place bonuses for a cool $5.75 million.

And it’s not too bad for the rest of the field too as every player who finishes in the top 10 will walk away with seven figures. Pretty nice haul!

Here's the prize money payout for each team at the 2024 LIV Golf Team Championship - Dallas

T he LIV Golf League concluded its 2024 season by leaning into its team format, hosting the LIV Golf Team Championship at Maridoe Golf Club outside of Dallas. And to say the event was lucrative is, well, an understatement. A total of $50 million was on the line with the overall winners, Ripper GC, earning $14 million.

As was the case in previous years, the prize money for the final championship of the year was split 60 percent toward the team to cover team expenses and 40 percent toward the players. So here’s how the purse breakdown looks for captain Cameron Smith's winning squad.

Winning team: $14 million

Team share: $8.4 million (60 percent)

Players share: $1.4 million per player

Similarly, the prize money earned by all other teams will shake out to 60 percent going to the “team” and 40 percent to the players for their week’s work.

The format for the team event at Maridoe was, well, slightly tricky to follow. Friday’s play involved the Nos. 4-13 teams from the season-long standings. The top seeds from those teams chose who they would face in the quarterfinal.

The teams that earned two or more points advanced to Saturday’s semifinals, with the Nos. 1-3 seeds joining in after earning byes. A similar match-play format was used to determine the four winners who were in the running for the title on Sunday, which turned out to be Ripper GC, 4Aces, Iron Heads and Legion XIII.

Interestingly there were some surprising upsets during Friday’s quarterfinals as the two lowest seeded teams, No. 13 Iron Heads (captained by Kevin Na) and No. 12 HyFlyers (captained by Phil Mickelson), upset No. 4 Smash (Brooks Koepka) and No. 5 Torque (Joaquin Niemann), respectively. No seeded team lower than 11th had won in the first two years of the Team Championship. The Iron Heads and HyFlyers are two of the three LIV Golf teams that have never won a tournament.

The upsets then continued on Saturday, with the Iron Heads winning again, this time taking out Crushers GC, the defending team champion captained by Bryson DeChambeau. Also winning on Saturday was Legion XIII ( despite the fact its captain and best player, Jon Rahm, sat out because of a severe bout of the flu ), Ripper GC (captained by Smith) and the 4Aces (Dustin Johnson's team that won the inaugural team title in 2022).

On Sunday, all 13 teams played to determine the final outcome. All players competed in stroke play, with all four scores added together to get the team total. The lowest score of the four teams that won Saturday matches played to be the overall winner, with the remaining teams claiming second through fourth place. The losing squads on Saturday played for positions fifth through eighth place, with the losing squads from Friday playing for ninth through 13th place.

Here's the prize money payouts for each team this week at Maridoe.

The 2022 Tour Championship marks the finale of the PGA Tour and filling the field are the top 30 FedEx Cup contenders. The tournament is happening this year at the East Lake Golf Club, which happens to be the oldest golf course in Atlanta. However, there is nothing old about the purses and the prize money for the event this year.

First and foremost is BMW Championship title defender, Patrick Cantlay , who also became the first player in FedEx Cup history to defend the title in Playoffs. This will give him a two shots advantage ahead of World Number 1, Scottie Scheffler. Cantlay could become the first person to become a back-to-back winner of the FedEx Cup.

Moving forward is the T3 finisher at the BMW Championship and Masters Winner, Scottie Scheffler, returning to the course. The golfer will be given a two-stroke lead from his closest competitor. Whereas, Will Zalatoris is expected to get three off the lead at the beginning of the tournament.

What is the winner’s share for the 2022 Tour Championship?

The winner of the Tour Championship this year will receive $18 million as their share. The prize money for the winner last year was $15 million, which means there is an increase of $3 million in the winner’s share. And not only that, but the runner-up will also receive a handsome amount of $6.5 million.

Other benefits for the players at the Championship

The prize money is not the only benefit for the golfers this year at the Tour Championship. There are other perks for them beyond the money, especially for the tournament champion. The winner will get $18 million along with the FedEx Cup. Also, he will score 38.44 Official World Golf Ranking points at the end of the event, based on the field strength.

2022 Tour Championship purse and individual prize money

The Tour Championship has a total purse of $57.925 million this year. The top 150 players in the final standing of the FedEx Cup will receive their designated amounts from the FedEx Cup Bonus Pool. Here is the individual prize money for all the players in the tournament:

PGA Championship 2022: Here's the record-breaking prize money payout for each golfer at Southern Hills

1398301484

Andrew Redington

TULSA — The PGA Championship already sports the biggest trophy of the four men’s majors—the Wanamaker stands nearly 2½ feet tall and weighs 34 pounds. Now it shares the honor for the biggest prize money payout in major championship golf.

On Saturday, the PGA of America announced it was bumping its purse for the championship to $15 million, an increase of $3 million from a year ago at Kiawah Island and $4 million more than it doled out at Harding Park in 2020.

Along with the Wanamaker, Justin Thomas, the playoff winner over Will Zalatoris on Sunday at Southern Hills is taking home a first-place check of $2.7 million. A year ago, Phil Mickelson banked $2.16 million for his victory.

With the boost in pay, the PGA Championship matches the Masters in terms of biggest major paydays. This past April, Augusta National increased its prize money payout from $11.5 million to $15 million.

It’s not so coincidental that these two events would make such substantial moves with their prize money payouts. Much has been made of late about how much is being made by professional golfers. Discussion around prize money payouts have helping fuel potential rival leagues to the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. In turn, PGA Tour officials have countered by upping their antes, boosting the overall prize money payouts on tour from $367 million to $427 million.

The question now is will the USGA and R&A follow along and boost their purses, too? The U.S. Open handed out $12.5 million at Torrey Pines last June, with Jon Rahm earning $2.25 million for his victory. The PGA Championship paid out $12 million in May at Kiawah Island with Phil Mickelson receiving $2.16 million. The Open Championship awarded $11.5 million in 2021 at Royal St. George’s.

Interestingly, the largest payday in men’s golf doesn’t come at a major. The Players Championship on the PGA Tour has a prize money payout of $20 million with Cameron Smith winning $3.6 million for his victory in March.

The evolution of the prize money payout in the PGA Championship offers an interesting look at the trajectory of golf purses in general over the years. Suffice it to say, when Tiger Woods entered the mix in the 1990s, it did much to help bring new fans (and new sponsors) to professional golf. The payouts from the PGA of America went up exponentially after his arrival in pro golf, as you can see from the information below. Here's a look at what the payouts had been in the past.

Year: Winner's Pay, Total Purse

1916: $500, $2,580 (first year of the event) 1931: $1,000, $7,200 (first year winner's pay increased) 1953: $5,000, $20,700 (first year winner's pay was $5K) 1958: $5,500, $39,388 (first year of stroke play, also the winner's amount actually decreased that year) 1965: $25,000, $149,700 1978: $50,000, $300,240 1983: $100,000, $608,099 1988: $160,000, $1,000,000 (first year with a $1M total purse) 1993: $300,000, $1,702,750 1998: $540,000, $2,886,800 2000: $900,000, $5,031,100 (first year with a $5M total purse) 2003: $1,080,000, $5,938,300 (first year with $1M-plus to the winner) 2009: $1,350,000, $7,484,500 2014: $1,800,000, $9,913,000 2018: $1,980,000, $11,000,000 2021: $2,160,000, $12,000,000 2022: $2,700,000, $15,000,000

Here is a breakdown of the prize money payouts for each place in the field. (We’ll update this on Sunday when we know what each player specifically earned for his efforts at Southern Hills.)

How much money is up for grabs at 2022 tour championship at east lake, share this article.

Someone is leaving Atlanta $18 million richer than when he arrived come Sunday night.

The final round of the Tour Championship is underway, and with that comes numerous changes to the payout structure of the event. A year ago, there was $60 million up for grabs, with $15 million going to the winner. This year, however, those numbers are $75 million and $18 million, respectively.

The increased bonus pool means that the top-10 finishers will bank seven-figure paydays and the last-place finisher (there are 29 golfers in the field this week) will make $500,000.

There is no longer a purse—like there is at all the other tournaments—for the Tour Championship. The FedEx Cup Playoffs bonus money is the only money that players earn at East Lake. It’s not considered official earnings on the money list.

Tour Championship :  PGA Tour Live on ESPN+

Scottie Scheffler started the final round in the driver’s seat for the $18 million prize, leading by six shots heading into the final round. Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele sit tied for second and will look to mark another big come-from-behind victory.

The bonus money will also be split into cash and deferred payments.

Here’s a breakdown of the money up for grabs at East Lake.

There’s a long tradition of TOUR-sanctioned golf in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metroplex. Thirty years ago, Chi Chi Rodriguez won the PGA TOUR Champions’ inaugural 3M Championship in the Twin Cities, kick-starting a tradition of a quarter-century that gave way to the TOUR’s 3M Open in 2019.

TPC Twin Cities hosted the Champions Tour from 2001 to 2018 and has hosted the TOUR ever since. The water-infested layout provides ample birdie opportunities, but disaster also lurks, as evidenced by 54-hole leader Scott Piercy’s final-nine struggles a year ago. Piercy closed in 5-over 41, giving Tony Finau a window to rally for the title.

The 3M Open marks the penultimate event of the FedExCup Regular Season, with players fiercely chasing spots in the top 70 to earn FedExCup Playoffs berths. The field in Minnesota includes Justin Thomas, who added the event to his schedule after missing the cut at The Open, and last week’s Barracuda Championship winner Akshay Bhatia, newly minted as a full PGA TOUR member.

This year's field at TPC Twin Cities will feature 156 players vying for a total purse of $7.8 million. The winner will receive $1.404 million.

The PGA Championship prize money has been increased by $3m for 2022, with the total purse now up to $15m and a winner's cheque of $2.7m for this year's tournament at Southern Hills .

Last year's winner Phil Mickelson won $2.16m of the $12m prize pool at Kiawah Island, with Collin Morikawa earning $1.89m at TPC Harding Park from the $11m PGA Championship prize money.

The increase in prize money from the PGA of America follows that of Augusta National , which also raised its total prize pool to $15m last month. Scottie Scheffler won $2.7m for his Green Jacket triumph.

We'd also expect the prize money at the US Open ($12.5m last year) and The Open ($11.5m last year) to increase in 2022 to around the $15m mark as well judging by what we've seen at The Masters and PGA Championship. The US Open may even go higher as that tends to be the most lucrative of the four men's Majors.

When it comes to the PGA and DP World Tours, the largest single purse remains at TPC Sawgrass in the Players Championship where a huge $20m is up for grabs. Cameron Smith won $3.6m this March.

Prize money continues to grow on the PGA Tour, and grow fast, with the new Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational Series a likely reason why. The money on offer in the eight-event series dwarfs that of the four men's Majors. The inaugural season features seven purses of $25m and a $50m season-ending Team Championship.

2022 PGA Championship purse, prize money: Payout for Justin Thomas and each golfer from $15 million pool

Thomas took home not only his second wanamaker trophy but a massive payday as well.

pga tour championship 2022 prize money

History and a substantial $15 million purse were on the line at the 104th PGA Championship as action concluded at Southern Hills on Sunday in Tulsa, Oklahoma. World No. 9 Justin Thomas captured not only his second Wanamaker Trophy but also his second winning check in the PGA Championship, bringing home a cool $2.7 million for his come-from-behind effort.

While Thomas collected a substantial sum in his own right, players who finished inside the top 23 collected a six-figure payday, thus easing the pain of defeat. Second-place golfer Will Zalatoris, who lost a three-hole aggregate playoff to Thomas by a stroke, collected $1.6 million in his second runner-up finish at a major in his career.

Meanwhile, 54-hole leader Mito Pereira, who held his spot atop the leaderboard until the 72nd hole on Sunday, lost nearly $1.8 million with a double bogey on the 18th. He settled for a $870,000 third-place prize alongside Cameron Young.

Thomas' win at Southern Hills matched Scottie Scheffler's victory at 2022 Masters for what will be the second-biggest share of the season. Cameron Smith banked $3.6 million (out of a $20 million purse) for his victory at The Players Championship last year.

Let's take a look at how much the payouts for the 2022 PGA Championship will be divided among the top 78 players who completed play this weekend.

Cameron Smith officially outside world’s top 100 despite taking out LIV team championship

Cameron Smith and his three Aussie LIV teammates lifted the trophy after winning their tour’s biggest event this week, but there was a negative impact as well.

Cameron Smith was spraying champagne and on top of the world after taking out the LIV team championship in Dallas this week and picking up $20m in prize money for his all-Australian Ripper GC.

But while he and his teammates were enjoying their own Mad Monday at Smith’s Florida home, the cold reality of his move to the breakaway tour hit.

Smith, the world No.2 in 2023 before his big-money defection, has fallen out of the world’s top 100 on the official rankings for the first time since he broke in by finishing fourth at the 2017 Australian Open.

His fall down the rankings comes after just one top-10 finish in any of the four majors this year – his tied for sixth at the Masters – the only events the 2022 British Open champ can earn rankings points in.

A return home for the Australian summer of golf, pending better performances than his emotional missed cut at last year’s Australian PGA, could get him back inside the top 100 after the Australian Open.

But it looms as a short stay given the scant movement in ongoing talks between the Saudi Public Investment Fund, which backs LIV, and the PGA Tour about bringing the rivals closer together in some way.

An unwillingness by the Saudis to declare their entirety of investments in the US, a necessary component for any deal to be approved by the US Justice Department, could prove a major spanner in the works.

It’s a fear Adam Scott, a leading voice among PGA Tour players, is aware of.

“It’s possible it doesn’t happen. I mean, it will ultimately be up to the Department of Justice to kind of guide that,” Scott said at the Presidents Cup in Canada, another event Smith can’t play in courtesy of his move to LIV.

“I think as we have read and as Jay (PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan) has said, both parties are working toward a deal, but it’s not completely up to the two parties trying to do the deal.

“It’s been going on a long time, so there’s times when it seems like it’s been sorry, it’s constantly being worked on all the time.”

Courtesy of their recent major wins, both Bryson de Chambeau (10) and Brooks Koepka (64), as well as first-year LIV players Jon Rahm (15), Tyrrell Hatton (38) and Adrian Meronk (88) are the only members of their tour in the top 100.

They were buzzing with excitement and confidence but it meant little in the Presidents Cup cauldron as the International Team was schooled by the mighty USA.

Making his Presidents Cup debut, Min Woo Lee left no one in any doubt how amped he is to take down the USA for the first time in 26 years.

Six of the best: The Race to Dubai movers after the BMW PGA Championship

There is more than one winner at events like the BMW PGA Championship and that proved to be the case once again at the third Rolex Series event of the season.

hEADER

While Billy Horschel will rightly take most of the limelight after becoming the first American to win the BMW PGA Championship twice, there were several other players leaving Wentworth Club with reasons to be cheerful.

The fourth event of the Back 9 featured a world-class field, climaxing in a dramatic three-man play-off as Horschel edged out Rory McIlroy and Thriston Lawrence over the West Course.

With 8,000 points on offer on the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex, along with European Ryder Cup qualification points to be won, there was plenty of incentive to produce a strong performance.

Here, we highlight some of the players who seized their chances and enjoyed results which will go a long way in helping them realise varying objectives.

Matteo Manassero

  • Race to Dubai Ranking: 5th
  • Official World Golf Ranking: 86th

Even before his first start at the BMW PGA Championship since 2018, Manassero was the comeback story of the season. A winner on the DP World Tour for the first time in almost 11 years at the Jonsson Workwear Open in March, the Italian has enjoyed a consistent campaign – highlighted by his eighth top ten of the season at Wentworth Club, where he became the youngest ever winner of the BMW PGA Championship in 2013. By finishing tied fourth in Surrey, the 31-year-old has climbed back inside the top 100 on the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time since 2014 and risen to fifth on the Race to Dubai Rankings, with his qualification for the DP World Tour Play-Offs guaranteed. He has also further strengthened his likelihood of competing again on the PGA TOUR, with the five-time DP World Tour winner now lying third on the DP World Tour’s list of ten players who will earn dual membership status at the end of this season. After also returning to the Major Championship stage twice and representing Italy at the Olympic Games, there can be no doubting that his comeback from the golfing doldrums is complete.

Manassero-2173548018

Thriston Lawrence

  • Race to Dubai Ranking: 2nd
  • Official World Golf Ranking: 47th

While he is without a win on the DP World Tour this season, there can be no denying that Lawrence has elevated his game to new heights this year. With back-to-back rounds of 65 over the weekend at Wentworth, the South African narrowly missed out on his maiden Rolex Series title. Still, it was his best finish in one of the DP World Tour’s prestige events. Coming on the back of his top five finish at The Open Championship and his runner-up finish in the Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo at The Belfry, the 27-year-old is now inside the world’s top 50 for the first time in his career. That is a significant achievement, with the doors that can open to compete in the sport’s biggest events. His career progression is set to continue next year by competing on both sides of the Atlantic, with his ninth top ten of the DP World Tour campaign – the most by any player – taking him to the top of the list of those targeting dual membership on the PGA TOUR. Now a five-time runner-up in the 2024 season, it would be no surprise to see him pick up a win before the campaign draws to a close.

"The dream ended with him with a two-foot putt for the win." @ThristonL 's girlfriend dreamt of his Sunday finish on Monday night. #BMWPGA | #RolexSeries pic.twitter.com/hmMdvbOSOk — DP World Tour (@DPWorldTour) September 23, 2024

Matthew Baldwin

  • Race to Dubai Ranking: 54th
  • Official World Golf Ranking: 261st

Much is made of prize money in golf, but here is an example of where it can truly be career altering. In one week, Baldwin has bettered the prize money he has won in all but one season since he turned professional in 2008. Two birdies in his last three holes in the final round lifted him into a share of fourth place – his best result at a Rolex Series event. Coming into the week, the 38-year-old was 99th on the Race to Dubai but after climbing 45 spots – the biggest jump by any player in the field – he is now thinking about reaching the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, an event where he made his only previous appearance in 2014. In four of his last five DP World Tour starts, he has finished in the top 20. Having revealed he turned to being an Amazon delivery driver before the 2022 Challenge Tour season, the confidence from his big performance on home soil should help him continue to climb the world rankings and potentially add to his solitary DP World Tour title which came last season at the SDC Championship in South Africa.

Ugo Coussaud

  • Race to Dubai Ranking: 29th
  • Official World Golf Ranking: 223rd

The Frenchman is enjoying a rookie DP World Tour season to remember. In his debut appearance at the BMW PGA Championship, Coussaud carded four under par rounds at Wentworth to finish tied seventh and receive a prize cheque of more than €200,000. That is only bettered by his runner-up finish at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in February. After climbing 11 spots to 29th on the Race to Dubai, the 31-year-old is the second highest ranked French player on the season-long standings after fellow Challenge Tour graduate Fredric Lacroix (17th). The DP World Tour Play-Offs in Abu Dhabi and Dubai will provide a platform for Coussaud - who turned professional in 2010 - to cap a memorable season, but before then he will hope to challenge for a first DP World Tour title.

Ugo Coussaud-2173732218

Marcus Armitage

  • Race to Dubai Ranking: 92nd
  • Official World Golf Ranking: 288th

His tied tenth finish on Sunday - which came quickly on the heels of a top 20 at the Amgen Irish Open - has gone a long way to ensuring he will retain his DP World Tour membership for the 2025 season. Now up to 92nd, he will now look to push towards the top 70 on the Race to Dubai at the conclusion of the Genesis Championship and thereby earn a place at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in November. After finishing tied fourth at the SDC Championship, Armitage then missed ten of his next 14 starts but has found form just at the right time when the rewards on offer were so meaningful. Affectionately known as ‘The Bullet’, the 37-year-old spoke openly in the Green Room about the importance of mental strength in ensuring he fulfils his potential, with his results in the last two weeks suggesting the Englishman can return to the form that saw him win the Porsche European Open in Germany in 2021. When you factor too that the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship - where he finished tied second last season - is still to come next month, things are looking up for Armitage.

Eddie Pepperell

  • Race to Dubai Ranking: 120th
  • Official World Golf Ranking: 385th

Like countryman Armitage, Pepperell has struggled to produce the form that we all know he is capable of this year. While still searching for his first top ten of the campaign, his tied 12th finish at Wentworth has lifted the fan favourite 30 places to 120th on the Race to Dubai Rankings. Many will hope the two-time DP World Tour winner can find another strong result or two in the coming weeks to ensure he finishes inside the provisional cut off of 114th to retain his card for another season as he looks to return to the level he showed when he won twice in 2018.

Why did the PGA Tour and LIV Golf merge? Here's a full breakdown

Everything you need to know about the pga tour and liv golf merger is right here, by logan reardon • published june 6, 2023 • updated on june 6, 2023 at 9:05 am.

The golf world was stunned on Tuesday morning.

In a shocking twist, the PGA Tour announced it would merge with the controversial LIV Golf in order to "unify the game of golf." The merger also includes the DP World Tour, which is the PGA's European Tour.

Tuesday's news answers the question of will LIV Golf survive, as the Saudi-backed tour struggled to maintain relevance despite heavy funding and the signings of star players.

Here's a full breakdown of the merger, including details on LIV Golf and what happens next:

When did LIV Golf form?

LIV Golf was founded in 2021 before playing its inaugural season in 2022.

The tour was owned by the Public Investment Fund, which is Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund. Two-time major champion Greg Norman served as CEO and the public face of the league.

Why did LIV golfers leave the PGA?

There were a few benefits for players joining LIV Golf.

First and foremost, golfers received massive money from the PIF. Phil Mickelson reportedly signed a $200 million contract to join LIV, while Dustin Johnson ($150 million), Bryson DeChambeau ($125 million), Brooks Koepka ($100 million) and Cameron Smith ($100 million) also reached nine-figure bonuses.

After signing their contracts just to join, players were awarded increased prize money during their tournaments. It was a clear message to the PGA Tour that players felt they were not being compensated fairly.

Beyond just the money, there were several other benefits that players saw with LIV. They played fewer tournaments each year (14 were scheduled for 2023 compared to 47 PGA events), with smaller fields and three rounds instead of four in each tournament.

LIV also utilized shotgun starts, meaning that every player began their round at the same time on different holes -- which meant the days were shorter.

What is the LIV Golf controversy?

The concern about LIV Golf was always about where the money came from.

Saudi Arabia funded the tour. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has been involved in multiple controversies, including human rights violations of his own people, the murder of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi and the government's alleged involvement in the Sept. 11 attacks in the U.S.

The ethics of players taking money from the country has been debated endlessly since players started defecting. Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods have both been outspoken against the league, with the latter reportedly turning down between $700 and $800 million to join.

A LIV Golf timeline

The PGA's rival tour is coming to an end but let's look back at some of the highlights over the last two years.

LIV Golf Announces TV Partnership With CW Network

While PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan previously condemned LIV Golf and discouraged players from taking their money, the merger seems to be a sellout of sorts. As part of the agreement, the PIF will contribute a "significant financial investment, toward minority equity ownership of a new, collectively held, for-profit LLC." The PIF will make a financial investment to become a premier corporate sponsor of the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.

What happens with PGA and LIV lawsuits now?

As part of the merger, PGA and LIV mutually agreed to end all pending litigation between the parties.

LIV sued the PGA last year for allegedly engaging in monopolistic behavior by creating rules intended to stop golfers from playing in rival leagues. PGA sought subpoenas for a countersuit alleging that LIV illegally pushed players to break contracts with the PGA by offering exorbitant sums of money.

The case was expected to go to trial next May, but that obviously will not happen after the merger.

What happens to PGA and LIV golfers now?

Here's what was said in the official announcement :

"The three organizations will work cooperatively and in good faith to establish a fair and objective process for any players who desire to re-apply for membership with the PGA TOUR or the DP World Tour following the completion of the 2023 season and for determining fair criteria and terms of re-admission, consistent with each Tour's policies."

LIV Golfers were already eligible to play in major championships, so the merger doesn't change anything there. Koepka became the first LIV Golf player to win a major when he triumphed at the PGA Championship last month.

Aussies on Tour: Smyth’s sights on second Asian Tour win

pga tour championship 2022 prize money

Australian Travis Smyth will endeavour to stay out of his own way as he seeks to turn a run of red-hot form into a second Asian Tour title at this week’s Yeangder TPC in Chinese Taipei.

A return to Linkou International Golf and Country Club should elicit positive memories for Smyth, who broke through in this tournament two years ago for his maiden Asian Tour win and was second last year.

That win also marked the start of a new dietary regime that has significantly impacted Smyth’s health and enabled him to get the very best from his considerable talents on the golf course.

Runner-up at the Shinhan Donghae Open two weeks ago, Smyth was also fourth at the Mandiri Indonesia Open, tied fifth at the International Series Morocco to go with two further top-10 finishes.

Currently sixth on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, Smyth knows that all he needs now is patience to bring that second win to fruition.

“I feel like I’m playing good golf and really feel like a win is going to be coming very soon but I need to go out and earn it,” said Smyth.

“I can’t get in my own way and think about winning too much.

“It’s going to require a lot of patience, digging deep and focusing on those good shots. What do I have to do to hit those good shots?

“Then I think I’ll be in a good position.”

Smyth leads a contingent of 16 Australians in Taipei that includes another Aussie in good form in Aaron Wilkin.

Wilkin endured a heartbreaking playoff loss at the Indonesia Open four weeks ago to climb to 31st on the Order of Merit.

David Micheluzzi (75th) and Jason Scrivener (80th) can advance their chances of qualifying for the DP World Tour Playoffs at the Open de Espana in Madrid and Grace Kim and Stephanie Kyriacou lead the five Aussies at the LPGA Tour’s Walmart NW Arkansas Championship.
