The U.S.S. Andromeda is the prototype for the Andromeda -class Cruiser subtype of the Galaxy -class , in service to Starfleet .

Beginning in 2410 , the Andromeda was a frequent visitor to station Deep Space 9 .

• The Andromeda was added to the exterior DS9 map as part of the Victory is Life revamp. It will randomly appear on the map, rotating its spot with other starships such as the U.S.S. Enterprise -F .
• The Andromeda was released as issue #3 in the Star Trek Online Starships Collection . Its registry on the model and accompanying booklet is given as NCC-92100, the same registry as the U.S.S. Birmingham .

Andromeda class (25th century)

The Andromeda -class was a type of exploration cruiser fielded by the Federation Starfleet beginning in 2410 . It was an advanced variant of the venerable Galaxy -class of the mid- 24th century . ( STO video game : Delta Rising )

History [ ]

With the Andromeda -class the Starfleet Corps of Engineers meant to duplicate the success of the earlier Pathfinder -class update to the Intrepid -class hull plan. Designed and built at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards , the Andromeda -class featured improved capabilities over even retrofitted Galaxy -class vessels. Ship design occurred under the Andromeda Class Development Project moniker in 2409 . Its layout and systems resulted from compromises between the traditionalist, pragmatist, and progressivist factions within the Advanced Starship Design Bureau . The traditionalist camp argued for always having a multi-role exploration cruiser , including for sentimental value. The pragmatists and progressivists were convinced by building the USS Andromeda technologically advanced and wartime-ready.

The Andromeda exploration cruiser was earmarked for Operation Delta Rising , the project to expand the Khitomer Alliance into the Delta Quadrant in 2410 . ( STO Issue 03: "U.S.S. Andromeda NCC-92100")

The systems updates developed for the Andromeda -class were later reused in the Yamato -class dreadnought cruiser , a variant of the Galaxy X -class . ( STO video game : Delta Rising )

The design aesthetic, including deflector dish assembly and warp nacelles, were replicated on ships of other classes:

• The Yamato -class dreadnought cruiser combined the Andromeda hull with the configuration of a Galaxy X -class dreadnought .
• The Sutherland -class advanced research vessel placed Andromeda design on a Nebula -class science vessel configuration.
• The Lafayette -class recon destroyer was an Andromeda -style redesign of the New Orleans -class frigate . ( STO - Klingon War mission : " Welcome to Earth Spacedock ")

As of 2411 , the Andromeda -class remained the newest iteration of the Galaxy -class series of exploration cruisers. ( STO - Season 19: Legacy mission : " Welcome to Earth Spacedock ")

The Andromeda class was 695 meters long and a standard crew complement of 830. The back of the neck section was covered with MDMS passive sensor vanes. The size of its internal volume meant the Andromeda class was larger than the Galaxy - and Venture -classes . ( STO Issue 03: "U.S.S. Andromeda NCC-92100")

The molecular cohesion nullifier field .

In addition to standard Starfleet weapons and defenses, the Andromeda -class equipped a molecular cohesion nullifier field , a device that disrupted the molecular bonds in surrounding matter, increasing the effectiveness of the cruiser 's weapons. The main ship components were saucer section , engineering hull , neck, nacelle pylons , and warp nacelles . At facilities supported by Starfleet Shipyards Operations , shipwrights could exchange these components with those of other compatible exploration cruiser classes: Galaxy , Galaxy ( refit ), Envoy , Monarch (cruiser) , Ross and Venture (cruiser) . In the 25th century, the design of the Andromeda -class exploration cruiser allowed its commanding officer to choose from different designs of livery, which could be modified further at starbases . These included the options Type 1-7, Upgrade and Veteran. ( STO - Klingon War mission : " Welcome to Earth Spacedock ")

Furthermore, the installation of deflector shields from specific factions modified the hull appearance, including shields from the Reman Resistance , the Breen Confederacy and the Dominion . ( STO missions : " Coliseum ", " Cold Storage ", " Boldly They Rode ")

Andromeda Galaxy

The Andromeda Galaxy was an inhabited galaxy located in the universe within relative proximity to the Milky Way . Andromeda had two satellite galaxies. ( TOS : " The Corbomite Maneuver ", " I, Mudd ", " By Any Other Name ")

An image depicting the Andromeda Galaxy was scanned by the Talosians as they reviewed the library computer files on board USS Enterprise in 2254 . ( TOS-R : " The Cage ")

A picture of the Andromeda Galaxy was on display in the briefing room of the USS Enterprise when the crew was reviewing star charts to search for the origin of an unknown buoy . ( TOS : " The Corbomite Maneuver ")

An image of the galaxy was on display on one of the large bridge monitors aboard the USS Enterprise . ( TOS : " Charlie X ", " The Naked Time ", " The Galileo Seven ", " Dagger of the Mind ")

An ancient humanoid race from the Andromeda Galaxy became extinct following the destruction of their homeworld when their sun went supernova . Remnants of the species survived for a time on scattered outposts but eventually died out, leaving their android populations on their own. One of these android-populated outposts was the planet Mudd in the Milky Way Galaxy. ( TOS : " I, Mudd ")

Centuries ago, the Kelvans became aware of dangerously rising radiation levels in Andromeda, a development expected to make that galaxy uninhabitable for their species within ten thousand years (or ten millennia) . The Kelvan Empire dispatched expeditions of multi-generational starships to explore the neighboring galaxies for territories suitable for conquest and occupation. Hypothetically, a Constitution -class starship running at maximum warp would take thousands of years to complete the journey to Andromeda. ( TOS : " By Any Other Name ")

An older image of the Andromeda Galaxy appeared in the original "The Cage". This image was replaced for the remastered episode.

This galaxy was located in the Andromeda constellation .

The Messier Catalog number for this galaxy was M31. Both the Andromeda and the Milky Way were located within the Local Group of galaxies. ( Star Trek: Star Charts , p. 10)

The distance between the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way Galaxy was either about one million light years ( Star Trek Encyclopedia , 4th ed., vol. 1, p. 28) or about two million light years. In the real world, the Andromeda Galaxy is 2,537,000 light years from Earth.

New season of Star Trek Online is out now on Playstation and Xbox

Star Trek Online’s  32nd season, titled Unparalleled, is now available on Xbox and Playstation consoles and takes captains into action against a deadly, new Borg threat. There’s also a new ‘Borg Battle Royale’ and a new event.  A new trailer can be seen below…

In Unparalleled , players have been tasked to modify an Iconian Gateway with assistance from a new Aetherian ally when suddenly a distress call is received from another universe. Turns out that no universe is safe from a multiversal Borg who are attacking from within a massive Dyson Sphere.  It’s time for players to stop these new Borg before they can gain a foothold throughout the multiverse.

In this new season, players will get to meet Captain Sela, Captain of the Enterprise F from a parallel universe, voiced by Denise Crosby who played Tasha Yar in the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation .

Season 32 brings a new event called ‘Delete Alt Control’ that will reward players with items like the Dimensional Hypermass Torpedo Launcher or Type 14 Shuttle Support Squadron.  To earn these rewards and others like them, players will need to play through selected content.

Star Trek Online: Unparalleled  introduces the following features:

• A new episode called ‘Situation Under Control’.
• Players will join forces with the Aetherian and Captain Sela to defend a new universe.
• Participate in a Borg Battle Royale.
• A new Captain Ground TFO where players will fight waves of Borg in a holodeck simulation. Waves will increase in strength.
• The new Season 32 event with fantastic rewards. 
• The T6 Aetherian Revelation has been added to the Infinity Lockbox.

Finally, the new season sees the arrival of Captain Alteration Tokens.  This new token will allow players to keep all the rewards they have earned to date and change their Captain’s species and/or gender, within a chosen faction.

Although considered by some to be too ponderous to serve as a frontline battleship, most Terrans still find value in the immense and menacing posture of this bulky and well-armored cruiser. Its presence on any battlefield is widely understood to be an unspoken threat to enemies of the Empire, as it is outfitted not only to defeat any foolish enough to resist, but to erase them from history entirely.

Class variants

Starfleet's top-of-the-line vessel in the mid-24th century, the most prominent Exploration Cruiser variant is the Galaxy class, which was the flagship of the fleet when it was first introduced in the late 2350s. The most well known Galaxy -class vessel was the USS Enterprise-D , commanded by Captain Jean-Luc Picard . This is the shortest Exploration Cruiser variant, but the best known.

On T5 and T6 variants, players may also select the "Galaxy Refit" nacelles, which have phaser strips on the dorsal side like on the Galaxy Dreadnought Cruiser and the first appearance of the U.S.S. Venture .

The Terran Cygnus Battlecruiser comes equipped with the [ Console - Universal - Destabilized Dimensional Rip ] .

Additionally, the Terran Cygnus Battlecruiser can equip consoles from the Enhanced Engineering Systems Set and the Starfleet Maneuvering Protocol Set , obtained from other Galaxy variants.

Molecular Reconstruction

Temporal Starships are capable of making subtle alterations on the molecular level through the use of Molecular Reconstruction . This technology allows the starship to assume 1 of 3 different Configurations: Offensive , Defensive and Support .

Each of the configurations generates its own specific counter, which is then used to fuel the Molecular Deconstruction Beam .

Terran starships come with standard equipment and weapons of the lowest mark available at the ship's minimum rank. The items provided are appropriate to the type of vessel and its related playing style.

As you rank up every 10 levels, up to level 40, the ship's forward weapon slots, aft weapon slots, tactical console slots, engineering console slots, science console slots and available bridge officer (boff) abilities will slowly increase toward endgame capabilities:

Hull strength [ ]

This table shows how the ship's hull strength scales at each level. The base hull of all scaling starships is 10,000, which is then multiplied by the ship's hull modifier (1.525 for the Terran Cygnus -class Battlecruiser), and then multiplied by the scaling multiplier below at each level.

T6-X upgrade

By using an [ Experimental Ship Upgrade Token ] , the Terran Cygnus -class Battlecruiser may be upgraded to T6-X , unlocking an extra ship device slot, universal console slot, and the ability to slot an extra starship trait .

• With the ship's initial launch, the standard Starfleet Andromeda variant was not available for use by players who did not already own those parts. This was addressed with the February 24, 2022 patch.
