Smashing Pumpkins, Jane’s Addiction to Embark on ‘Spirits on Fire’ Tour

The Smashing Pumpkins have announced a North American arena tour where the semi-reunited band will be joined by special guests and fellow alt-rock gods Jane’s Addiction.

Frontmen Billy Corgan and Perry Farrell announced the Spirits on Fire Tour Wednesday morning during a visit to the Howard Stern Show , with the Smashing Pumpkins also scheduled to perform Thursday on The Late Late Show .

The trek — the Pumpkins’ first since their semi-reunion tour in 2019, and Jane’s first full-scale jaunt since 2016 — kicks off Oct. 2 at Dallas, Texas’ American Airlines Center and keeps both bands on the road for nearly two months, hitting basketball and hockey arenas in most major markets before concluding Nov. 19 at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl. To celebrate the Spirits on Fire Tour and their career in general, the Smashing Pumpkins will dip their hands in wet cement Wednesday afternoon as the latest artists enshrined outside Hollywood’s TCL Chinese Theater.

In addition to the tour, the Smashing Pumpkins have promised new music in 2022 as the prolific Corgan follows up the band’s 2020 double-LP Cyr .

Tomorrow night, in support of  The Smashing Pumpkins  tour announcement, the GRAMMY® Award-winning, critically acclaimed band will be performing and talking on  CBS’ The Late Late Show with James Corden . 

Later today,  The Smashing Pumpkins  will appear at the  TCL Chinese Theater  in Hollywood for a commemorative ceremony in celebration of their tour announcement. Each band-member will add their handprints in cement, joining a long list of global treasures before them. 

When  The Smashing Pumpkins  first emerged out of Chicago in 1988, the world had never heard a band quite like them. The trek will take the alt-rock giants across the continent from early October through mid-November

The Smashing Pumpkins have announced an extensive arena tour of North America.

During the trek – which will criss-cross the continent from early October through mid-November – the band will be joined by another titan of '90s alt-rock, Jane's Addiction.

You can see the full itinerary for the Spirits on Fire tour – which will also feature Poppy and, on select dates, Meg Myers – below.

The Pumpkins will be promoting their most recent studio album, 2020's double-length, synth-pop-influenced Cyr .

The band are also reportedly hard at work on another project, though, a 33-song “rock opera” sequel to Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and Machina/The Machines Of God .

“It’s kind of a rock opera," Billy Corgan said of the in-the-works album in a YouTube video in October 2020. "We feel like in many ways this completes the circle on everything we started and weren’t able to finish at that time, so we’re very excited.”

Jane's Addiction, meanwhile, last embarked on a full-scale tour in 2016, and have performed live only sporadically since. Their last studio album was 2011's The Great Escape Artist .

The Smashing Pumpkins and Janes Addiction announced a co-headlining arena tour for the fall of 2022, with tickets on sale this week. The Spirits On Fire tour will run through arenas in October and November, following a brief run of spring shows for Smashing Pumpkins already underway.

Smashing Pumpkins teased the tour on social media this week, sharing an animated graphic with Wednesday’s date but no other details. The band was then joined on Howard Stern’s show by Janes Addiction Wednesday morning to share the news, which went out shortly after on social media. The band also indicated plans to release new music this year, which would be the first release since their album Cyr in 2020.

Tickets for the Smashing Pumpkins and Janes Addiction tour are on sale this week, available to the general public beginning Friday, May 13. Presales for the tour begin on Thursday, May 12.

Shows kick off on October 2 with a performance at the American Airlines Center in Dallas and wrap up on November 19 at LA’s Hollywood Bowl. Stops in between include Bridgestone Arena (Nashville), TD Garden (Boston), Madison Square Garden (New York), Bell Center (Montreal), United Center (Chicago), and Honda Center (Anaheim).

The Pumpkins will appear on The Late Late Show with James Corden tomorrow night (May 12) to launch the tour.

Last March, the band officially began work on a 33-song follow-up to 1995 double album Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness and its equally weighty 2000 follow-up Machina/Machines Of God.

They posted on social media saying: “Starting new SP album today, the 33 song sequel to MCIS and Machina. Songs are written, lyrics too...so now it's just record-record-record.”

A music writer since 1993, formerly Editor of Kerrang! and Planet Rock magazine (RIP), Paul Brannigan is a Contributing Editor to Louder. Smashing Pumpkins Announce 2022 Tour Dates With Jane’s Addiction

The Smashing Pumpkins will hit the road this fall with special guests  Jane's Addiction .

The 32-date Spirits on Fire Tour will kick off in Dallas on Oct. 2 and wrap up more than a month later with a concluding show at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl on Nov. 19. (The Smashing Pumpkins are currently on the road with the  Rock Invasion 2 Tour , which will conclude on May 29.)

Serving as the opener for most of the tour dates will pop-rock singer Poppy; a handful of dates will also feature Meg Meyers as an opening act.

A ticket presale will launch on May 12, followed by a general ticket sale on May 13. Tickets can be purchased at the Smashing Pumpkins'  website .

The Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder also recently confirmed that the band has completed work on its 12th album, calling it "big" and "epic."

Last year, frontman  Billy Corgan   noted that new music would serve as a sort of sequel to the band's 1995 album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and their '00s Machina records. Further details on the upcoming, as-yet-titled LP will be announced later.

Two of alt rock ‘s biggest bands, Smashing Pumpkins and Jane’s Addiction , are teaming up for a North American headlining arena tour dubbed “Spirits on Fire.” The 32-date outing featuring the Pumpkins headlining with support from Jane’s is slated to kick off on Oct. 2 at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas and hit Houston, Austin, Tampa, Nashville, Atlanta, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Toronto, St. Louis, Detroit, Chicago, Denver and Vancouver before winding down with a show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Nov. 19.

Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan and Jane’s vocalist Perry Farrell announced the Live Nation-promoted tour on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show on Wednesday morning (May 11) and the Pumpkins will promote the outing on The Late Late Show on Thursday night (May 12). On Wednesday afternoon, the Pumpkins will also appear at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood for a commemorative ceremony celebrating the tour, with the band members slated to put their handprints in cement.

Poppy and Meg Myers will join the bill on select dates. Pre-sales for the tour begin on Thursday (May 12) beginning at 10 a.m. local time with general on-sale kicking off on Friday (May 13) at 10 a.m. local time; click here for more details.

Smashing Pumpkins Announce “Spirits On Fire” Tour with Jane’s Addiction

The Smashing Pumpkins and Jane’s Addiction have teamed up for the Spirits on Fire tour, which will see the bands covering North America over October and November. Lead singers Billy Corgan and Perry Farrell made the announcement on the Howard Stern show. For each group, it will be their first outing in some years.

The bass chairs will be filled by Jack Bates in the Pumpkins and Chris Chaney in Jane’s Addiction. Bates, who is the son of ex-Joy Division bassist Peter Hook, first joined the fold for their semi-reunion tour in 2019. Check him out in action with “Today” from the Late Late Show with James Corden:

The tour kicks off October 2nd in Dallas, Texas, and will snake its way into Canada for shows in Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, and Vancouver. They’ll then cut through the Midwest to wrap up on the West Coast. The final date is set for November 19th at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Today (March 11th), the Smashing Pumpkins announced a massive North American arena run with special guests Jane's Addiction. The 32-date Spirits of the Fire Tour is scheduled to kick off October 2nd in Dallas, Texas, and wrap November 19th in L.A. at the Hollywood Bowl, with Poppy opening on select dates (see the full itinerary below). Both Pumpkins and Jane's broke the news live this morning exclusively on SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show . Tomorrow (May 12th), Billy Corgan's band will continue to build the hype with an appearance as the musical guests on The Late Late Show With James Corden .

Smashing Pumpkins Announce Arena Tour with Jane’s Addiction

Today, The Smashing Pumpkins announced they’ll embark on a North American Arena tour with special guests Jane’s Addition this fall. The trek, touted as the Spirits On Fire Tour, will make 32 stops across the nation.

The bands revealed the news live this morning on The Howard Stern Show and have plans to further promote the tour with a commemorative ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood tonight and an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden , tomorrow night.

The Chicago-born band will kick their tour off at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, on Oct. 2 and play through the fall until Nov. 19, where they’ll close things out with a show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Openers for the shows include Poppy and Meg Myers on select dates.

The Smashing Pumpkins are heading out on the Spirits On Fire tour later this year, with guests Jane’s Addiction and openers Poppy and Meg Myers at select dates.

The Smashing Pumpkins have announced details of an absolutely huge 32-date arena tour in America.

The band will be heading out on the Spirits On Fire tour later this year, with guests Jane’s Addiction , and openers Poppy and Meg Myers at select dates. The run kicks off at Dallas' American Airlines Center on October 2, and will finish at the iconic Hollywood Bowl on November 19. Tickets go on sale this Friday, May 13, at 10am local time.

To celebrate the announcement, later today the Pumpkins will appear at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood for a commemorative ceremony, and then tomorrow night they'll perform and chat on an episode of The Late Late Show with James Corden on CBS – so stay tuned.

Smashing Pumpkins Book Fall 2022 Tour With Jane’s Addiction + Poppy

This October, Smashing Pumpkins will hit the road on the "Spirits on Fire Tour" with special guest Jane's Addiction and additional support from either Poppy or Meg Myers at select dates.

The 32-date run kicks off on Oct. 2 in Dallas, Texas and will venture eastward, up into Canada and back down across the boarder, straight into the heartland and then on over toward the west coast with a final show set for Nov. 19 in Los Angeles, California.

Joining Smashing Pumpkins and Jane's Addiction for the majority of the run is the enigmatic, genre-bending Poppy, who released her fourth album,  Flux , in September of last year. The only two instances where she will not open the show are Oct. 22 and Oct. 29, for which alt-rock/art pop musician Meg Myers will assume the opening duties.

Here are the songs we want to hear when the two alt-rock acts hit the road this fall

Big news for ‘90s alt-rock enthusiasts and those who spent a little too much time playing Guitar Hero in 2007: Smashing Pumpkins and their pals in Jane’s Addiction will embark on a 32-date tour across North America this fall (grab tickets here ).

As two of some of the biggest and best names of their era, their “Spirits on Fire Tour” is already guaranteed to be one for the books.

While Smashing Pumpkins carved out their own space in the grunge scene, Jane’s Addiction were doing the same with their funk-influenced brand of alt-metal, meaning there’s a lot of variety in store for concert attendees. But with over a dozen albums between the two bands, how could they decide which ones to bring out for their arena run?

Picking a setlist is a grueling task, which is why we at  Consequence  have kindly taken on the burden ourselves and compiled our very own dream setlist.
