Travel + Leisure is launching its subscription travel club today

You can now join a travel subscription service that lets you book trips curated by an iconic travel magazine.

On Wednesday, Sept. 8, Travel + Leisure Group launched its long-anticipated travel subscription service. During a phone call this week with Noah Brodsky, president of the Travel + Leisure Group, he said that even though some people may not be ready to travel yet, "it's always a good time to get inspired."

Called Travel + Leisure Club, the members-only subscription service gives travelers the "curated content of T+L along with an array of travel experiences."

Right now, club membership is available for an introductory rate of $9.95 per month, which includes access to trip itineraries inspired by the pages of Travel + Leisure magazine (full disclosure: my former employer); discounts on everything from rental cars to hotels and flights; a concierge; exclusive experiences only for members; and a subscription to the magazine.

As a member, you might get a complimentary drink or extra course when you book a table through a preferred restaurant partner. Earlier examples have included VIP reservations at an editor-picked restaurant or a private tour. These benefits alone could offset the cost of membership if you take advantage often enough.

Members, Brodsky says, save an average of 25% on the hotels, itineraries and other experiences. In theory, it sounds easy enough to make use of the membership in your everyday life, too — not every dinner out has to be part of a trip of a lifetime , after all. And according to a statement, the concierge service could even help you plan a home renovation inspired by resort or hotel photos you dog-eared in the latest issue.

On Wednesday I joined the subscription club to check out the membership offerings. Of note are the itineraries (largely domestic at this time), including a five-day tour of Charleston, South Carolina — once again considered the top city in the country (and one of the best in the world) in the brand's annual World's Best Awards.

"One thing we've heard over and over," Brodsky said, is that "it's amazing no one ever put a 'book now' button on [Travel + Leisure]."

Now, that's more or less the case.

Travelers who book the Captivating Charleston itinerary will see the city the way the editors have described it, through Lowcountry culinary walking tours, a catamaran sailing around the harbor and stays at two of the best boutique hotels in town.

Brodsky said the plan is to launch new itineraries every month.

When Brodsky and I spoke last, he said the club would be both "exclusive" and "really accessible." And it does promise to deliver both serious savings as well as members-only perks for less than the cost of an ad-free Hulu plan.

"I think the pricing will certainly speak for itself," Brodsky said. "I think anyone who gives [the Club] a try for free ... they will see the value there on their very first booking and the content is going to keep [them] inspired."

"When you follow the advice of editors, you know that what you're booking is going to be of that caliber ... you know that the work has been done for you to pick amazing experiences."

Right now, you can try out the Travel + Leisure Club with a 30-day free trial. Just keep in mind that you need to email or call to cancel your trial before being charged.

And for travelers who aren't sold on the subscription service, the Travel + Leisure Group has also rebranded its online booking platform, formerly BookTandL.com. Now called Travel + Leisure GO, anyone can come to this portal to research, plan and book trips.

We live in a subscription-obsessed world and there’s a subscription for everything you can imagine, from razors to clothing and even hot sauces. Travel memberships are on the rise, providing new ways to ease some of the stress that comes with traveling these days and help make the journey more seamless.

Whether you’re willing to pay a premium for exclusive travel experiences that provide a little more privacy or you're more budget-conscious and want to find the best travel deals, there’s a membership for every type of traveler. Here are 10 travel memberships that are worth considering.

Wheels Up offers private jet charter memberships so travelers can access a fleet of aircrafts, including a King Air 350i, an 8-passenger Citation Excel/XLS, and one of the fastest aircrafts, the Citation X. Wheels Up uses a dynamic pricing model offering competitive rates, so members can book flights on-demand with the flexibility to pay as they go.

Additional m embership benefits include invites to signature events, President’s Circle status with Hertz, a complimentary trial of Inspirato Club subscription for 12 months (Core members only), certain perks at select Waldorf Astoria hotels across North America, a partnership with Delta SkyMiles, dedicated partnership rates with Porsche and more.

Membership cost: Three membership options are available – Connect, Core and Business. Travelers check into a private terminal where they can relax in a fully-stocked luxury private suite that includes complimentary in-suite meals catered by h.wood Group , as well as additional services upon request such as in-suite massages, manicures and detailing services for personal cars. PS also provides a designated on-site TSA and Customs agent for expedited screening.

Inspirato is a subscription-based luxury travel service that gives members exclusive access to over 150,000 luxury vacation homes and resorts around the world that are staffed by Inspirato. There are two membership types: Inspirato Club and Inspirato Pass. The former gives you access to the luxury residences and hotels around the world, on-site concierge and daily housekeeping with additional benefits such as late check-in and check-out, room upgrades, spa credits and more. However, members also pay nightly room rates.

With the Inspirato Pass, you automatically get the benefits of Inspirato Club plus nightly rates are already factored into the price of membership, so you can book as many vacations as possible in one month with one active reservation at a time. There is also no long-term commitment, so you can cancel the membership at any time.

Membership cost: Inspirato Club membership is $600/month plus a $600 enrollment fee and you pay nightly rates as you go. Inspirato Pass is a flat rate of $2,500/month which includes all hotel stays.

Scott’s Cheap Flights

A membership to Scott’s Cheap Flights includes flight deals and “Mistake Fares” accidentally published by airlines sent straight to your inbox. The team scours the internet for the lowest published airfare rates to popular destinations and shares them with members.

Subscribers can also track deals from a specific airport close to home or destinations of interest. A membership to Scott’s Cheap Flights is best for travelers who have flexibility on the destination and dates and are willing to fly based on low airfare rates. Flight deals don’t last long so you’ll have to act fast.

Membership cost: There are three membership tiers including Limited which is free, Premium costs $49/year and Elite $199/year.

PRIOR was started by a former travel editor who saw a gap in the market for travelers wanting a more immersive experience during their vacation. A team of experienced travel editors and local tastemakers on the ground design itineraries for curious travelers.

Airport terminals may have come a long way in the last decade, but killing time for a three-hour layover in a crowded airport isn’t exactly on anyone’s list of things to do, especially on vacation. Trade the busy terminals for private lounge access with Priority Pass and enjoy guaranteed Wi-Fi and snacks.

Members of Priority Pass receive access to over 1,300 airport lounges globally, including several airline lounges such as Virgin Atlantic, Air France and Turkish Airlines. Several credit cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve, American Express Platinum and Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express offer free Priority Pass memberships as part of their member benefits.

Membership cost: Choose from three membership tiers which start at $99/year for the Standard membership plus $32 per visit and go up to $429/year for the Prestige membership which includes unlimited lounge visits.

TSA Pre-Check and Global Entry are services that allow travelers to expedite the security screening process upon departure and arrival. With CLEAR Plus, enrolled members get escorted to the front of the security line once they’ve been verified using facial recognition or fingerprint scans, so they no longer have to verify identification at security. However, for expedited clearance through security screenings, TSA Pre-Check or Global Entry are still required.

CLEAR uses biometric identifiers to create a unique ID assigned to each member that is used for verification at stations across airports, stadiums and other major venues nationwide.

Membership cost: A CLEAR Plus membership is $179 per year. American Express Platinum Card Members receive a $179 statement credit and United MileagePlus members receive a discounted membership rate.

Well Traveled

Well Traveled is a members-only social and booking platform that allows members to connect with friends to find and share travel recommendations. The community-driven platform is intended to make travel planning easier by allowing you to follow people in your network that you trust, in addition to other like-minded travelers who share similar budgets and travel preferences.

Members can also take advantage of the personalized booking service that includes perks like exclusive rates, room upgrades, food & beverage credits, complimentary breakfast and more. Currently, membership is invite-only but you can also apply to be considered.

Membership cost: $150 per year.

Travel + Leisure Club

Travel + Leisure Club is a new travel subscription service offered by Travel + Leisure Group. Members can pay a monthly fee for access to preferred pricing on curated itineraries and an average of 25% savings on hotels, resorts, car rentals and activities that are listed on Travel + Leisure GO, the online travel booking site. Members also get access to a personal concierge that can assist with travel planning, scoring tickets to sold-out events, making dinner reservations and more.

Membership cost: Travel + Leisure Club is currently offering an introductory rate of $9.95/month.

Exclusive Resorts

The Best Times to Visit Zion National Park

For the best camping, fewer crowds, and sunny weather, you'll need to be strategic when planning your trip.

Zion National Park is Utah's oldest national park, encompassing over 200 square miles of sandstone canyons, soaring cliffs, and coniferous woodlands. Its elevation sharply rises and falls, but the otherworldly terrain attracts all manner of outdoors enthusiasts, from photographers to rock climbers.

Zion sees about five million visitors a year, making it one of the most-visited national parks in the country. Naturally, this means hiking trails and shuttles can become unbearably crowded during the high season. That's why visitors should consider certain factors — like visitation patterns, temperature, and water levels — when planning a trip.

Generally, the tourist season is busy between February and November, though it's busiest during the summer months when people are on vacation and the weather is best for outdoor recreation. But to choose the best time to visit Zion National Park , you'll need to evaluate the cost, crowds, and weather against the goals of your trip.

Avoid the most crowded months in Zion National Park.

While Zion National Park is open year-round, some seasons are busier than others. At the height of the tourist season — the summer months, campgrounds are full, trails are packed, shuttles are crammed, and parking is difficult. If you have the flexibility, making the trip during the park's off-peak months means less crowded hiking trails and fewer view-blocking selfie sticks.

But if you have strong personal preferences regarding weather, there are other times you might want to avoid the national park. July often ushers in debilitating midday heat with daily highs averaging 100 degrees. Fall temperatures fluctuate, but the autumnal colors can be stunning.

January is the best, if challenging, time to visit for peace and quiet. Although it's the middle of winter, the daily temperatures remain comfortable compared to those in other parts of the country. Even so, it's worth noting that this month is the coldest and receives the most precipitation. With an average high temperature in the mid-50s, you can get away with wearing just a light jacket on one of the most beautiful winter hikes in the U.S. , Watchman Trail.

What's the best month to go to Zion National Park?

Summer in Zion is hard to beat. This is when you'll get the most time to explore because of long summer days and extended park hours. Because June and July are the busiest months in the park, consider visiting in September to avoid the heaviest summer traffic.

Due to its unique climate and range of elevation, Zion National Park experiences many weather conditions that can affect access to certain trails, sites, and attractions. Thunderstorms are most common in July and August. A good rule of thumb is to check Zion's current conditions , no matter the season.

What's the most affordable time to visit Zion National Park?

No matter when you visit, you'll have to purchase a parking pass upon entering Zion. You can opt for a weekly pass or purchase an annual interagency pass that will get you into federal recreation sites around the country.

There are a few ways to get discounted parking passes, though. Seniors and military members can pay a lesser fee for interagency passes. And don't forget that anyone 15 and under gets in for free, year-round. Free entry is also offered on special fee-free days such as Veterans Day and National Public Lands Day. You can also choose to park outside of the park and use the shuttle system.

To save on accommodations, food, and tours outside of the park, you might consider visiting in the quieter months, particularly in January and February.

Plan to hike in Zion National Park around the weather.

The Narrows are a major highlight of the park. This truly narrow section of Zion Canyon has walls that tower more than 1,000 feet high above a coursing river. You can get a sense of the area by walking along the paved and wheelchair-accessible Riverside Walk , but for a true Narrows experience, you'll want to throw on a pair of waterproof shoes (or shoes you don't mind getting wet) and walk up the Virgin River , which takes you further into the canyon.

The Narrows are often closed during the spring when snowmelt causes the water to rise dramatically. And in late fall and winter, the water can be cold. Because of this, people tend to hike The Narrows in the summer and early fall, when the water is warmer and at its lowest level. However, you should always be mindful of flash flooding regardless of the season.

Angels Landing is a popular once-in-a-lifetime experience for those brave enough to tackle it. Not for novices, the last part of the path is cut into solid rock and leads hikers up the trail's namesake 1,488-foot-tall formation. The nearly 5.5-mile round-trip hike can be done year-round, but should only be attempted in fair weather because it is quite dangerous. Most people hike it in the summer months.

Note that both of these hikes require visitors to reserve a permit before heading off. For other more casual hikes and open trails, it's still important to keep the weather in mind. Snow can affect trail conditions and lead to closures, so be prepared for limited park access if you choose to visit this time of year.

For the easiest canyoneering in Zion National Park, go seasonally.

Because of its narrow canyons and numerous waterways, this national park has become one of the country's premier canyoneering destinations. Canyoneering is an activity that requires scrambling, climbing, and swimming up, down, and through canyons, often with the aid of ropes. Beginners can book a tour of the lower end of The Narrows, while more experienced visitors can head to the Subway (Left Fork) or Orderville Canyon .

You can go canyoneering in Zion year-round, but certain routes are sometimes limited. The most comfortable time for the sport is during the summer when the water is warm and shallow.

Canyoneering permits can be obtained through a lottery system two months in advance, calendar reservations one month in advance, or a last-minute drawing seven to two days in advance.

Camp in Zion National Park year-round.

There's nothing like waking up in the beauty of Zion National Park, which is why camping is one of the park's most popular activities. That said, you'll want to make reservations early — Zion's three frontcountry campgrounds — South, Watchman, and Lava Point — fill up quickly.

Zion Canyon's Watchman Campground is open year-round, while South and the more primitive Lava Point are typically closed over the winter. The most enjoyable time to camp is in the fall when the heat of summer loosens its grip and the peak-season crowds subside.

If you’re looking for more remote camping options, hike to backcountry sites. There are 13 to choose from along the seven-mile La Verkin Creek Trail , popular in spring, summer, and fall. Be mindful that these wilderness areas are affected by wildfires, rockfalls, flash floods, and other natural forces. So be sure to check the conditions before heading into the backcountry.

Plan on wintertime for the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive.

The renowned Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is packed with hiking trails, picnic spots, and stunning views that require minimal physical effort. You can stop and stretch your legs to get a good view of the Court of the Patriarchs or take in a sunset at Canyon Junction Bridge.

The caveat is that the route is open to private cars during a small window when the park shuttles are not in operation, typically from January to March. When the shuttles are running, you can only see the sights along the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive by riding one.

What do you consider to be the best room at the property and why?

For me, it’s the Suite Greta, which is dedicated to Greta Garbo, who loved the hotel; she shot Grand Hotel in 1932 and even mentions us. We owe so much to la divina and so we dedicated the room to her. When I was a child, it was the suite, and one night when I was about 10 years old, my parents let me sleep over with a friend of mine—it was the greatest night of my life.

How much does it cost per night?

The suite starts at $5,109 per night.

How would you describe the guests and the vibe at the hotel?

One of the best compliments I ever received was from a friend who says he usually classifies hotels by a specific type of client: honeymooners, families, young travelers, etc. He told me that Grand Hotel Tremezzo was the only place he’d ever experienced that he would recommend to any client. This was so meaningful because this is what we really want to be; it’s a grand hotel, of course, but we want it to feel welcoming and to meet very different needs, whether guests want to relax or explore or do anything else.

What feeling about Lake Como do you hope to impart to guests?

Lake Como as a destination is made up of two main ingredients: the first is the natural beauty of the landscape and the second is the history. Both of these are so present at Grand Hotel Tremezzo. Maybe I’m biased, but I think we have the most incredible spot on the lake to admire the view; it’s postcard perfect. You can see the town of Bellagio, you can see the mountains, they’re some of the most spectacular views anywhere on the lake. That feeling is alsoso present within the hotel. The hotel's founders, the Gandola family, were from Bellagio, and after they got married they did a tour of Europe. When they came back, they wanted to build something similar to the grand hotels they had seen in the European capitals. That’s where the style of the hotel comes from, and we’ve kept every possible historical piece of the hotel through the years. Part of the Lake Como experience is to breathe in the history.

What’s a local attraction that you always recommend?

The best suggestion I can give to anyone is to see the lake from the water. You can take a super-chic Venetian-style boat with a captain and a bottle of champagne, or you can take the local ferry, but to see everything from the water lets you take in the beauty of the place and see things you can’t appreciate on land.

Also, walk up to the top of the hill in our gardens. The gardens are something that can definitely surprise guests. You might expect the lake, the view, the beach, but not how lovely the gardens can be. At the top of the hill we have a grove of olive trees, and there’s a panoramic view. It’s a place that really speaks to my heart; it’s where I go to unplug. Not every guests goes, but they should. The other thing I would suggest is going into the kitchen. It’s fascinating to be in the back of the house of a hotel and see what goes on behind the scenes. They’re also very nice, so they’ll tell you a story and offer you something delicious.
