The Shimano STC Dual Tip 250H-210XH is designed to give you as many possibilities with one rod as possible. With one single rod and one extra tip, you can make two fully different rods with two different casting weights and two different lengths. This is the ultimate rod for every angler who likes to explorer new places or goes on a holiday but does not know exactly what to expect regarding fishing conditions and fish species.
The Shimano STC Dual Tip 250H-210XH, making it possible to change between a 250cm rod with 20-50g casting weight, which is perfect for casting standard lures, and a 210cm rod with a 50-100g rating for casting or jigging larger baits.
By having this option, you do not have to bring two separate rods anymore when you want to fish with different techniques that require different rods. The Shimano STC Dual Tip 250H-210XH is the perfect solution for every angler who likes to travel but has limited space in his suitcase or backpack but still wants to be as flexible as possible.

This is the ultimate rod for every angler who likes to explorer new places or goes on a holiday but does not know exactly what to expect regarding fishing conditions and fish species. Imagine that you are fishing for mullet with a 250cm rod with a float, but you suddenly see a school of seabass hunting. With a simple adjustment, you can switch to a heavier rod and control your lure perfectly to trigger those predators! All with the same rod! The STC Dual Tip Boat are heavy rods that give you plenty of options with one rod. Due to the possibility of changing tips, you can make a 240cm 150-300g boat rod into a 300cm 28-122g rod, which is perfect for casting bait or lures from the shore! In addition, there is a STC PowerGame-Boat rod, making it possible to change between a PowerGame 240cm rod with 40-120g casting weight, which is perfect for casting big lures, and a heavy 250-300g boat rod that is perfectly suitable for jigging or fishing with bait. By having this option, you do not have to bring two separate rods anymore when you want to fish with different techniques that require different rods. The STC Dual Tip Boat is the perfect solution for every angler who likes to travel but has limited space in his suitcase or backpack but still wants to be as flexible as possible.

Hello Paul,
A daiwa BG spinning reel would be good or a shimano Stradic both in a 4000 size would be ideal.
Hello Ashok,
For the 20-50g it is 10-20lbs and it also the same for braid.
For the 50-100g it is 15-25lbs and again the same for braid.
Q Question - 23/07/2021 Hello guys! I want to buy a Shimano S.T.C Dual Tip Travel Spinning Rod 7-40gr but I would love to know if in case of accident you sell replacement parts. Thanks A Answer Hi Joao, We only stock the complete rods and don't carry any replacement sections etc. Nor do we normally supply them on request. Obviously if something gets broken under warranty, we'll do our best to help you out, but if not you might have to contact Shimano themselves to find an outlet that stocks spares. Regards TackleUK

Shimano monster STC, any good?
- Add to quote
Hi all, I'm looking into getting a new travel rod, something that allows me to belt large lures to feeding fish from shore. My intention is to target large false albacore, leerfish and potentially small-medium tuna from a boat in the med/adriatic. And if i go anywhere more exotic, something that might cope with a GT or such. There are a few options for what I'm looking but the one that fits the bill for power and length seems to be the Shimano Monster STC 3.15m 28-110g. Has anybody had experience of this rod at all, or something similar that could give me some guidance or feedback. Thanks Dan
Hi, I have been using the shimano Yasei stc monster 315 for the last four years , very light powerful rod which doesn't feel like a five piece rod. before that I had the extra heavy stc model's ,
Took a monster STC over to Lanza last year, and although i didn't get the right conditions to properly test it out i can tell you it's plenty strong and stiff enough for most of your target species.Popping from the boat or shore are definately doable.
110 gr is too much, it will throw max 90 gr..
Thanks all, looks like i may have to add it to my collection. Skalliwag, whats the largest fish you've had in it? Cheers

Hi mate was not sure to ge 2.40 or 3.15 monster 28-115g gona be fishing from shore which one would you recommend thanks in advance
Awesome fish. Instills confidence in travel rods for me lol Cheers
STC Monster will handle small to medium sharks so I don't think you will have any problems with that one. Cheap option for reels Shimano TLD 25 & Ultegra 1400 XSD for easy distance beach casting . Both will handle big fish but I would replace the plastic bushes for bearings in the ultegra after a bit of time .cheep on e Bay. I hope this helps
At 3.15 meters lenght it will probably be fine from shore but from a boat it will be too long, catching medium size tuna or a half decent GT from a boat will probably end with a broken rod. For this you will need a rod around the 8ft mark.
this is the spec for above rod. omes with case The fitted lenght is 300cm closed including case 85cm max casting wt 150gms. never used bought for a cancelled trip £150 including delivery in the uk
I bought the shorter monster stc and casts a 107g popper no problem.

A trip to Moscow
I'm going to organize a trip this summer. I want to plan everything. I’ll fly from London to Moscow, and I also want to visit St. Petersburg. Could you, please, advise me what places I should visit? I’ll stay in Moscow for about 10 days before going to St. Petersburg. Thank you!
Not a country I’d be spending my money in at the moment.
Ditto. Ditto!
I don't really see the point of shunning a country because you don't agree with its leader and/or its government. Would you go to Italy? China? Tourist dollars are more likely to get into the hands of the people rather than any corrupt bureaucracy and meeting friendly tourists might just change the locals opinions of foreigners and even give them some information they don't get from local news media.
Hopefully , I won't be starting a war here , but I must say I agree with Chani's comments . Having taken three year visas in 2015 , we have been to Moscow and St; Petersburg ( once to Moscow , and twice to St Petersburg ) . The History , Art , Music ( I am a classically trained musician ) and Culture , fascinate us . Much to experience there and advance preparation is essential , To get a good grounding for your visit , read this lavish and detailed book by Suzanne Massie , it's one of the best ways to immerse yourself in what you will experience - https://www.amazon.com/Land-Firebird-Beauty-Old-Russia/dp/096441841X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1521652009&sr=8-1&keywords=land+of+the+firebird+massie&dpID=51CPK13XKGL&preST=_SX218_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=srch
And while leaders of such countries can point to foreign visitor numbers as a sign of support ? I also believe that personal safety for certain travellers, especially obvious minorities, cannot be guaranteed, as fervent nationalism increases, and tolerance levels evaporate. Just as I may decide against a purchase at the supermarket because of a company’s behaviour, ethics will always be a consideration.
Well, I'd argue supermarket ethics does not readily translate to travel ethics - the latter is far more complex. Personally, I see the whole "vote with my hard-earned travel dollar" approach as overly simplistic, but if it's your position - I totally respect it.
What I don't understand is members volunteering ethical guidance in response to what seems an innocuous request for travel-related information.
Note a discussion on ethics hosted a year ago by the Webmaster of this very forum.
https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/general-europe/travel-ethics-612334a0-0ca1-4128-b088-c13d1d8a91c3
I appreciate Rick Steves' point of view in his "Travel As A Political Act". That said, Putin's Russia is not a place I would support. But, to each his or her own....
From a practical point of view, travel between the two countries can be difficult. I understand the Russians who traveled in the US this past winter had to go to the US Embassy in the country of Georgia to get visas because the Russians expelled American embassy personnel. If you do travel to Russia, you may be on your own. See the American travel advisory: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/russia-travel-advisory.html
Travel Advisory January 10, 2018 Russia – Level 3: Reconsider travel Reconsider travel to Russia due to terrorism and harassment. Some areas have increased risk. Read the entire Travel Advisory U.S. citizens are often victims of harassment, mistreatment, and extortion by law-enforcement and other officials. U.S. consular assistance to detained individuals is often unreasonably delayed by Russian officials. Russia also enforces special restrictions on dual U.S.-Russian nationals. Due to the Russian government-imposed reduction on U.S. diplomatic personnel in Russia, the U.S. government has reduced ability to provide services to U.S. citizens.
We have traveled to Moscow and St. Petersburg over the past few years. As in the US, most of the people we encountered helpful and not particularly political. In Moscow, we stayed at The Garden Ring Hotel which was a close walk to the metro. The hotel was very comfortable and quiet for being in the city. We loved the art museums and the Georgian restaurants. In St. Petersburg, we stayed at both The 3Mosta hotel near the Hermitage and the Art Hotel Demetra.. In St. Petersburg, we especially liked the Hermitage and Russian museum. Learning the Cyrillic alphabet and having a good map is a must.
As I think the point about ethical considerations has been made, please keep future replies more specific to the question at hand. Thanks.
Either read a good travel book or book a guide who can personally take you to the best places that interest you and tell about the sights you're seeing. We used Dan Petrov on 2 different trips to Moscow and found him to be wonderfully friendly and witty not to mention super knowledgeable.
Latest advice, Australian Governmemt, 1 April 2018. “Due to heightened political tensions, you should be aware of the possibility of anti-Western sentiment or harassment. While the Australian Government is not aware of any increased difficulties for Australians travelling in Russia at this time, you should follow the security and political situation closely and keep up to date with this travel advice. Remain vigilant, avoid any protests or demonstrations and avoid commenting publicly on political developments.”
We very much enjoyed our group trip to Moscow and St Petersburg last year. excellent guides and accommodations. While Steven who has replied here has excellent advice, ( and we took advantage of it), we felt an organized tour really facilitated our enjoyment of the country. You may want to consider a combination of an organized tour and than adding independent days . Some of the Australians on the tour had arrived a couple of days earlier than the tour stated and then some stayed later. If we were to go again (which I would), that"s how I would do it. And I must say , it was enlightening to have conversations with the Russian tour guides and the non Americans about the current world situation. Not that we went into any great depth, but I think we all went away with a little more understanding. Top places: allow lots of time in St Petersburg at the Hermitage- take a separate day for the Impressionist building. In Moscow, the Russian Art Museum was amazing.
Solid advice from Australian government quoted above, especially the keeping up to date part.
I checked the current version (Sep 18) of that advisory - and it hasn't been updated much. In fact, some sections don't seem to have changed since 2005 - their recommendations for importing/exporting currency and financial instruments, for example, are at least five years behind.
I do like reading governmental travel advisories for entertainment purposes - for instance, up until very recently the US one sternly advised potential travelers that Moscow was largely a cash-based economy (couldn't be further from the truth) and warned about intrinsic dangers of gypsy cabs (which had all but disappeared by 2015).

I know you will get asked loads, and it's annoying to answer, so please know that I do appreciate your time and answers. Thank you.
Just curious, why not? :-) What is the difference between December and any other month, if we talk about trains :-)
//how many days would be best in each city?
The more the better. Both cities have so many to offer. 3-4 days each is a minimum.
//don't even know where to start
https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g298484-Activities-Moscow_Central_Russia.html
https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g298507-Activities-St_Petersburg_Northwestern_District.html
//does anyone have any experience of doing this?
Use forum search - some millions of people did
1) Proper clothes ans shoes. Russian winter, you know
2) Don't forget about visas
https://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g294459-s602/Russia:Crossing.The.Border.html
Quckest way here I know is to browse the FAQs - plus checking the excellent, ever growing "things to do"...and once you have done this, zero in by typing into the search box right here more specific "searches"...as you rightly state, pretty much anything and everything you would ever want to know has been asked and answered here many, many times ;-) ...
The only thing is to check the date of the posts you find, as well as last update for our excellent FAQs...the bad thing is lately, it has not been easy or even possible in some cases to update the latter, and as for the former, things do change over time, so when looking at various posts, best to give more attention and credence to those more recent ones...
regarding trains, yes of course. trains have been famous for more than a century of functioning in all weather.
regarding what to do and where to see, you really need to do some homework. these two cities are full of sites to see in things to do. you should come back after doing some research.
"Quckest way here I know is to browse the FAQs"
Reading a guidebook may help, too. Then you will have an idea of what you can/want to see.
In fact it shouldn't be different from any other destination - I mean, the process of getting ready. It's wise to atart well in advance, you will have time to have all your knowledge sit fast.
Thank you, I do understand. I do all the research for our trips, and I am quite thorough about it. I guess this one just feels a bit daunting to me, hence why I am grateful for any tips to point me in the right direction. But, I do understand that it's annoying for you all. I asked about the train in December because in Scotland when we get snow everything tends to grind to a halt. Even though we prepare we seem never to be prepared.
"I asked about the train in December because in Scotland when we get snow everything tends to grind to a halt."
- No such thing here, otherwise we would have been out of function for the most part of the year.
Still, summer looks more inviting - more daylight, easier navigation
It would be easier if we knew what actually brings you here - nature, art, history?
Otherwise you'lle get a lot of advice that more suit those who give them than you.
Speaking of not-for-everyone museums, there are museums of vintage automobiles, metro museum, space museum etc.
I think there is even a museum of Russian felt boots.
Look, you won't get very far that way.
If you have a mathematician among your friends, or anyone familiar with research routine, ask them to help you with an algorithm, then start again. First of all, set your targets. Are you after the 'known unknown', as the former defence secretary Rumsfeld had famouly put it, or rather the 'unknown unknown'?
A bit difficult to find anything when one doesn't know what one is looking for.

Rod STC Surf
The STC Surf range is available in a multiplier (M) or a Fixed spool (BXH) reel configurations and are ideal for anglers who travel long distances. Suitable for all-round surfcasting, they are stronger than conventional surf rods, making them suitable to fish for large fish from the shore or beach. There are very few surf rods available for the travelling angler and if this is the type of fishing you prefer, the STC Surf will be a great addition to you rod collection. These super powerful, long range masterpieces can cope with leads up to 225g (8oz), enabling you to comfortably fish the most powerful surf around the world. If you prefer to use a large fixed spool surf reel the 4.45m ‘BXH’ model will launch your leads impressive distances, and for fans of multiplier reels, the 3.96m ‘M’ model with give you all of the power you require to tame powerful fish feeding beyond the breakers. To produce the correct long range casting performance required by high quality surf casters, the STC Surf blends High Modulus Full Carbon with Nanosheet. The result is lightness, power and great tip speed, even when using large leads. Remarkably, the 6-piece STC Surf packs down to a maximum length of 76cm, making suitcase transport a convenient option for the globetrotting angler who is prepared to face the challenge of the world’s finest surf beaches. To ensure confident, assured handling when casting long distance a special cross wrap shrink tube handle is used on both models. The fixed spool reel model has a Shimano DPS reel seat and the multiplier version having an adjustable Slide ‘n Grip reel seat that can positioned to suit your casting style. Stainless steel Seaguide guides are used throughout and both models have a white tip section for easy bite detection in low light conditions. Both models come with a with strong travel tube for international travel. The Shimano STC Surf has been designed for and subsequently is the perfect rod for the travelling beach angler! Certainly it’s an ideal rod to stow away in your suitcase, ready for a couple of quiet hours at the beach during a family holiday, or for use as your primary rod for use on specific fishing trips trips where you will be required to cast large baits at long range from the beach.
Shimano NANO carbon is a technology which is used to build rod blanks which are on average 35% stronger and 15% lighter than a conventional rod blank. The heart of a NANO rod blank is made of a NANO carbon sheet. This sheet has a special weave which allows to use a low amount of resin which is spread into very small (nano) particles throughout the sheet. This creates the lightness, strength and responsiveness in the blank.

Description
The STC spinning series includes seven different spinning rods with lengths from 240cm up to 300cm and casting weights from 10-30g up the a XH version which can even cast 100g without any problems! The transport length from the rods is kept to a maximum of 65cm (differing per rod), so ensure that you can take the rod in your suitcase, car, backpack or wherever you want to store it! Due to the usage of a new X5 Nano carbon material, we have made the rods really lightweight and still very strong and responsive. You will not even notice that you are fishing with a 4 of 5 piece rod instead of a 2 piece rod! Since spinning rods are very versatile, you can use these rods for many different applications: the lighter series are perfect for fishing medium sized lures in a lake for pike, but also perfect for float fishing with a piece of bread for mullet. It’s all up to you!

Russia Through The Lens
In Moscow there’s a market that looks like a circus tent – Travel tip!
Just a couple of hundred meters from the Tulskaya station of the Moscow Metro , basically where the Third Ring Road crosses the Moskva river , you can find a pretty unique place where to eat and do a little food shopping : Danilovsky market .
In the past, this used to be one of Moscow’s largest and most renowned farmer’s markets and it was meant to both offer an outlet in the city for real farmers and provide access to fresh produce to Muscovites (in the Soviet times, that was definitely not always easy). It was built like a huge concrete circus tent (or a flower, it actually really looks like a flower from the air, as you can clearly see in Google maps ).
Now the whole neighbourhood is undergoing strong gentrification , with new luxury residential complexes being built and former factories being turned into lofts and space for tertiary . One noticeable effect of this process has been the transformation of the Danilovsky market from real farmer market into an upscale market with a variety of offerings, including handcrafted products, flowers, delicacies and a delightful series of small restaurants offering cuisines from around the world.
This has turned the market from an affordable food and produce shopping place for the area residents to a very hip meeting point where to explore different flavours in a very informal setting . The market is also very popular among the “office crowd” as it offers a very wide variety of foods to consume during a short lunch break, with the added benefit of being able to shop for dinner in the same place.
One of my favorite places where to eat is the “Chowder and Pie”, where (as you might have guessed from the name) you can find excellent chowder . Their offer includes a fantastically authentic New England Clam Chowder and a more “localized version” of crab chowder, made with real (and rather abundant) Kamchakta crab meat.
In general the prices are on the low-side for Moscow standards and really quite cheap compared to “the West” . You can easily eat a full lunch for under 5 Euros/USD and a dish with lots of crab meat will set you back less than twice as much.
Most, if not all, of the restaurants actually have other locations in the city, but they usually created special menus and special offers for this informal settings . So, instead of having to go to a restaurant and likely reserve in advance to enjoy a properly prepared Beijing duck , you can just walk in the market and order a portion.
Another great thing about this setting is that you and your friends (or colleagues) can easily eat together, while having completely different foods . That is because each kiosk/restaurant does not have a “reserve” sitting area. There are tables and chairs (or benches) all around the perimeter of the market (including a very nice “inside terrace” from where I took the feature picture of this post) and you can get your food and sit wherever you want.
You can still find fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, cold cuts and cheeses in Danilovsky market, but… there’s a but. As I mentioned, this is no longer a market aimed at low-income families where the main selling point is the low price (during Soviet times it was mostly the actual availability to be almost extraordinary…). Everything is high quality and very… how can I say… “polished”. Of course if you can afford to spend a little more you find fantastic fresh fruit and vegetable, especially for seasonal foods. In the warmer months of the year there are a couple of pomegranate stands that offer both the fruits and their freshly squeezed at the moment for you. The central part of the market is occupied by a 360 degrees circular fish stand, which sells fantastic fish and seafood (some of which is still alive), including marvellous sturgeons (the fish from where black caviar comes from).
The real forte of the market today, though, is speciality foods , which are harder to find elsewhere, even in huge supermarkets. Many kiosk have a decidedly “regional” soul , like the ones with all kind of frozen fruit and sweets from the middle-east or the states South of the Russian border ( Turkmenistan , Kazakhstan , Tajikistan Armenia , Georgia and so on). Apart from that you can find Italian gelato (ice cream – but that is actually not very much like the real Italian one), Belgian waffles, French patisseries (sweet shops) and boulangeries (bakeries) and so on.
Finally, some other stands specialize in a specific product (meat, fish, cheese and so on) and there you can find a pretty good choice of varieties coming from all around the world and in general of good to high, to very high, to excellent quality (with prices to match).
Ah, I was almost forgetting, but if you aren’t yet convinced by all you’ve read so far, my Travel Tip is pretty simple: trust me and go visit Danilovsky market in Moscow, especially if you have an hour or a little more free for lunch or dinner and you want to experience something different, fun, exotic and overall decidedly affordable for your meal!
Would you like to discover the Russia that foreigners rarely, if ever, get to see , with an English (and Italian, Spanish and French) speaking guide (me and my wife) showing you the sights and telling you a bit about Russian history and traditions? If so, do get in touch and we’ll be happy to create an unforgettable, tailor-made experience for you!
