Book Review: American Pilgrim by Roosh V

I first came across Roosh in 2012. My first marriage was on its last legs and deteriorating fast. Around that time, people I read like Vox Day and Matt Forney began writing about something called “game”. I wasn’t sure what I was reading at first, but Vox Day especially has dragged me into subjects I never thought I’d learn, like economics. Somehow, through all that, I found Roosh’s landing page for his book “Bang”.

Game has many negative connotations, although I found it helpful. It helped me to begin understanding she who is now my late ex-wife. I believe it also helped me to meet my new wife and to hold things together in a second, much better marriage.

Like me, Roosh was a shy guy who knew nothing about women. Following advice from his mom lead him to the “friend zone” curse. Roosh is a scientist by training, and as he came across “pick up artist” material, he began conducting experiments and recording his results, which resulted in “Bang”. He began a life of travel and fornication and living off the proceeds of writing books about it. If nothing else, Roosh was always interesting.

I could tell through his writing that Roosh was begining to experience what Solomon called “vanity and vexation of spirit”, and I began to call him the personification of Ecclesiastes, my favorite book of the Bible. I thought if he didn’t become a Christian eventually, he would be a shell of his former self.

Roosh’s conversion in 2019 seemed to come on very suddenly. One week, his podcast was about normal for that stage of his life, and the next week, he had Dr. E. Michael Jones on. I sure didn’t see it coming. Roosh was baptized in the Armenian Orthodox Church, so he returned to that.

After his sister died of cancer and he realized his life in eastern Europe was not going to be fulfilling, he returned to the Washington DC suburbs to live with his mother. Then he launched a car trip around our nation, giving speeches in 23 cities. The trip took 5 months. Each week, he posted a travel log video of the places he’d been and the thoughts he’d had in the prior week. He showed clips of cities and parks and interesting places he’d been, along with commentary about his experiences. He called it “Babylon Road” and the videos are probably still on YouTube. I followed along at home.

Roosh created “American Pilgrim” as a book based on his experiences. Like the videos, the chapters are organized by weeks, beginning with leaving his last city and culminating in the next city. After making a few changes to his routine, Roosh settled into attending church on Sunday if an Orthodox church was available, the exception being attending Joel Osteen’s church in Houston, which was a let down for him. (A common practice; Barbara Ehrenreich also attended as research for her book “ Bright Sided “, a very good read. (My Amazon affiliate link is included.))

I’ll include a few thoughts on the book. Roosh encountered many people. Some were open to discussing spiritual things and others were not. Some people may not follow Roosh closely as they showed up to his events expecting to hear about how to bang women, while Roosh no longer wants to encourage sin. He met several people who were happy to hear his new message and encouraged him. Roosh still writes a lot about his fornicating past, but it is part of his testimony and conversion so I don’t see how he could avoid it and remain authentic.

Roosh struggled with being new in the faith. He felt greatly under-qualified to give people spiritual advice, and mostly stuck to his conversion story or how he was able to overcome problems through faith. He stopped at many monasteries and churches and talked to as many priests and monks as he could. He told many of them his story and received advice and blessings. I think his approach is the right one. Many of us Christians get a little too caught up in trying to tell others what to do, when it should simply be “This is my experience”.

I don’t know much about the Orthodox church, but I thought we “Protestants” were bad. Roosh often experienced Greek Orthodox not letting him take communion because he’s Armenian Orthodox, and the two churches are not in communion. At one church, he got a long lecture about how he needs to convert to Eastern Orthodox because the Armenians are wrong. (I’ve been through the “You should come to my church because yours probably teaches the Bible incorrectly” talk myself.)

Roosh also struggled with substituting one idol for another, such as novelty for fornication. None of us are immune from it, but Roosh demonstrates a spiritual maturity for recognizing it. Through the tour, he began to desire living in the mountains, but due to choosing what used to be a drug house, his experience was short lived and he promptly returned to living with his mother.

I personally have given up on thoughts of leaving my area. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either. But where would I go? People say South Dakota is free, but I’ve also been told if I hated the insular nature of New Jersey, I would definitely not like South Dakota. I also grew up in the military and somehow got the message that I was supposed to serve in the military and settle wherever I landed, which left me far from home. I’ve begun telling my children that it’s probably time to put down roots, and since I’m stuck here, then this is where our family should settle. I figure if God wants me somewhere else, he’ll drag me there. But last year in the middle of “COVID”, we were able to sell our old house after only 7 days on the market and move into a larger house after one offer and one counter-offer. It was so effortless, God had to have been involved.

I’m surprised to find that some of Roosh’s books are still available on Amazon. I thought they were all banned. You have to buy “American Pilgrim” directly from his store though . Like all of his books, it’s a good read. I guess I could facetiously call it “Jesus and the Art of Challenger Maintenance”, although Roosh only had to pay a mechanic to put a cover back on the underside of his car.

A notorious pickup artist found God. Lots of angry white radicals do.

The turn to faith by a star of the “manosphere” is less surprising than it appears..

roosh v road trip

One of the Internet’s best-known “men’s rights activists” — a onetime pickup artist infamous for slamming feminism, championing “neomasculinity” and publishing articles with titles like “ 5 reasons to date a girl with an eating disorder ” —  just announced that he’s now a committed Christian. As of this weekend, Daryush Valizadeh, better known as Roosh V, has  banned all talk of what he now calls “fornication,” and even profanity, from his forums lest, he says, he lead readers “into sin.” Until now, Roosh V’s freewheeling forums had encouraged would-be pickup artists to trade tips about psychologically manipulating women into casual sex.

At first glance, this seems like a stunning reversal: One of the most influential denizens of the “manosphere” — the subculture of online anti-feminist activists that, for a growing number of readers, doubles as a gateway to the far right — saw the error of his ways and chose a different path. He certainly had cause for self-examination. Masculinist discussion groups dead set against “PC culture” have increasingly become recruiting grounds for more extreme groups, including those advocating real-world violence or celebrating “revolutionary” acts of right-wing terrorism. At its worst, the manosphere can itself turn violent: In 2014, Elliot Rodger, an angry and frustrated consumer of such content , killed six people in Isla Vista, Calif., during a self-proclaimed “revenge” rampage against all the women who refused to sleep with him. (Rodgers has become a folk hero in some dark corners of the Web and was cited as an inspiration by the man who is accused of killing 10 people with a van in Toronto in 2018.)

But Roosh V  characterized his transformation from pickup artist — one with a loose definition of consent that led some to call him  “pro-rape” — to Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Christian not as an about-face but as a linear progression. In fact, it’s representative of a broader trend within far-right Internet-based groups: Some of their members come to embrace a highly conservative, traditionalist version of Christianity as a bulwark against what they see as the decadent, liberal modern world. In the minds of many would-be Internet transgressives, conservative Christianity has become the biggest troll of all.

The conversion of Roosh V highlights another, even more vital, truth about the anti-feminist and alt-right movements: They already function as quasi-religions. These movements gain adherents precisely because they tap into young men’s existential hunger for the kind of things that also underpin religious observance: a narrative of meaningfulness in the world, a sense of purpose within that narrative, a community to share that narrative with, and rituals to both demonstrate and intensify commitment to that narrative (yes, posting memes on Twitter counts).

Roosh V’s conversion story makes clear the continuity of his views, even as they evolved. First, he  wrote , a disaffected person in the modern world takes the metaphorical “red pill” — meaning they wake up to the “reality” that “social justice warriors” and feminists control society. The next step is the “black pill,” the nihilistic worldview that many men’s rights activists and alt-right adherents adopt in response to that revelation. But at the end of the road, Roosh V  told his readers, there’s the “God pill”: “submission to God’s will.”

Roosh V says he had his epiphany while tripping on psychedelic mushrooms. Whatever provides the final push, many on the alt-right follow a similar path to the rhetoric of religion. One increasingly popular catchphrase on 4Chan and its far-right successor, 8Chan, is “Deus Vult,” or “God wills it,” a reference to Pope Urban II’s call to begin the First Crusade — typically invoked to bolster anti-immigrant or anti-Islamic sentiment. The red cross of the Medieval Knights Templar has become a prevalent symbol at  right-wing gatherings , including the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville. And then there’s Steve Bannon, among the most politically influential alt-right thinkers, who since leaving the White House has been working to found, via a local proxy, a reactionary Catholic-affiliated “ gladiator school for culture warriors ” in a monastery outside Rome  (over Vatican objections).

Alt-right “Christianity” of this sort is not a theology so much as a reactionary shibboleth: a way to condemn not only Islam but such societal “degeneracy” (a  favorite Roosh V term ) as feminism and political correctness. Even before he announced his conversion, Roosh V wrote that we “are now stuck with a clown country where we suffer daily humiliations and degradations at the hands of sodomites, man-jawed feminists, pedophiles, cuckolds, and aliens” — and proposed, as a partial solution, the establishment of Orthodox Christianity as the official state religion.

Some of the most radical and deadly far-right extremists, themselves steeped in Internet culture, have also adopted Christian rhetoric. Before John T. Earnest allegedly  killed one worshiper and injured three others at a synagogue in Poway, Calif., in April, he posted a manifesto that claimed explicitly Christian motivations, calling upon “my brothers in Christ of all races” and members of a far-right 4Chan group to join him in killing Jews, in order to herald a reactionary “revolution.” Echoing centuries’ worth of reactionary, anti-Semitic tracts, Earnest’s manifesto treated Christianity as a link to a mythic, idealized past, while characterizing Judaism as the cause of cultural, sexual and moral decay.

Roosh V, for his part, also seems to be using his newfound Christianity not to call for neighborly love but to advocate for a war on modern culture. Since his announcement, he’s posted an article titled  “Modern Life Is Aids” (illustrated with a photo of an LGBT pride parade), in which he criticizes the “cultural HIV” of contemporary existence. To counter this cultural disease, people should choose “God over the glorification of themselves,”  he writes . That’s not the voice of someone who has turned his back on reactionary radicalism.

Atavism — the obsession with looking backward to an imagined “primal” past — is a common characteristic of online reactionaries. From the “paleo” diets ubiquitous in the men’s rights world, to the “ gorilla mindset ” embraced by alt-lite conspiracy theorist and self-help guru Michael Cernovich, to alt-right Twitter icon  Bronze Age Pervert ’s obsession with power weightlifting, practices and rituals associated with an imagined, pre-modern past have long suffused the Internet right. The manosphere and the alt-right use references to Christianity in a similar way — as shorthand for a supposedly purer time.

The lines between “religion” and these online ideologies grow blurrier by the day. By buying into the red and black pill narrative, disaffected and lonely young men have access to a seductive explanation of how the world works, alongside a reassuring etiology of their own failure to launch . No less importantly, they also have a group of like-minded 4Chan or Reddit friends, eager to reinforce that narrative. Whether it uses the imagery of Medieval Christianity or of the  cult of “Kek” — an ironic 4Chan meme-religion that worships alt-right symbol Pepe the Frog as an amphibian chaos god — the Internet right is itself a cult.

Roosh V’s pivot to Christianity might stop him from posting explicitly about premarital sex. But it’s unlikely to change his or his followers’ fundamental ideology: a “revolt against the modern world,” this time dressed in Christian garb. The red pill and the God pill aren’t so different, after all.

My Take On What Happened to RooshV [his work, metamorphosis and disappearance]

| by Truth Seeker |

Recently, I posted an article on Victor Pride /Nick Kelly/ from Bold&Determined.com analyzing his metamorphosis.

The material spiked some interest and a couple of readers requested a similar post on RooshV – another pillar author of the manosphere who had a similar to Pride’s trajectory

Today, I fulfill that request.

I didn’t follow RooshV ‘s prime as closely as Victor Pride’s because I wasn’t interested in pursuing women until later in life. Nonetheless, I’m familiar with his work and have the needed information to analyze his change of direction.

roosh v road trip

RooshV Was Smart and Educated

The first quality of RooshV that jumps out of the page is that he had a higher education (microbiology) unlike many other manosphere idols. He worked in a lab before his career as a pick-up artist [PUA] and author took off.

This quality separates him from people like Pride who painted college as a waste of time. [Pride was correct that college debt is evil, but education in and of itself is helpful and desirable.]

RooshV’s knowledge helped him position himself very intelligently on the scene. He wrote with a more advanced vocabulary and had something real to fall back on in case his blogging/vlogging/YouTube journey went bankrupt.

That said, in one of his early interviews, he expressed regret that he hadn’t quit his job a little earlier to pursue the manosphere money-printing route.

RooshV Was a Good Writer

RooshV had a neat and sharp writing style combining simplicity and directness with a touch of complexity.

He was a better writer than Pride fundamentally, but his writing didn’t generate as much hype and “motivational fire”.

In other words, RooshV was closer to classical music whereas Pride was a rapper.

The Empty Pursuit Of Women

Pride was a money chaser; RooshV was a pussy chaser.

RooshV built an empire on doctrines meant to produce sexual and love outcomes via well-calculated pick-up tactics. He traveled the world and experimented with both online and offline PUA.

He produced many books detailing his experience in different European countries. He spent years leveraging his U.S. passport and exotic roots in the hope of acquiring both love and sex.

Painful Realizations

roosh v road trip

Listening and reading RooshV led me to the following conclusions:

  • RooshV Never “Banged”

Most people who can read between the lines (a.k.a. people who’ve fought a similar war) could see that RooshV’s pick-up career wasn’t all that successful. He wasn’t generating many positive sexual outcomes and some readers were even accusing him of writing “fiction” rather than reality.

Also, in many of his books, he is disarmingly honest and outlines his sad moments and failures himself.

  • RooshV Became a Victim of the Perfect Girl Chase

I remember listening to one of RooshV’s podcasts where he was presenting the red flags that would disqualify a woman from being a good partner. If one were to apply his criteria, 99% of women would be disqualified.

Ironically, he reached the same conclusion at the end of his post. This is when I knew that he was pursuing women making less than 1% of the market share in his country.

And when you add his past and fame, it becomes abundantly clear that no woman matching his endless requirements would be willing to give him a chance.

In other words, his conquest had no legs to stand on. It was akin to doing natural bodybuilding and expecting unnatural results. You can train like that for 500 years without reaching your goal.

Complete PUA Burnout and Depression

roosh v road trip

As the years progressed, the PUA blogger warrior lifestyle intensified the fire surrounding RoosV’s psyche.

As I pointed out in the Pride post, blogging is fun only in the commercials. The reality is bleak and not nearly as alpha as they want you to believe.

RooshV did the following most days:

  • Stand in front of the laptop all day (consume and produce content)
  • Maybe go to the gym
  • Maybe go to the supermarket and open women only to get rejected
  • Go back home and report to your followers
  • Go to sleep

He was earning a lot of money during his initial phase (maybe more than Pride). The income was probably making up for the circle of depression in the beginning. But eventually, money can only do so much. Besides, he didn’t appear to be nearly as obsessed with increasing his bank account as others.

The Constant Criticism Didn’t Help

RooshV had a ton of fans and supporters, but the current narrative hated him with a passion.

He was suspended by multiple payment processing platforms; his site ReturnOfKings was destroyed; the UK banned him from entering the country…etc.

That struggle hurt his business and personal development immensely.

Ultimately, the accumulated fatigue together with the lonely lifestyle and criticism from normies started to severely affect RooshV’s equilibrium and trust in his blueprint and mission.

roosh v road trip

Like Pride, RooshV had developed a lot of momentum in one direction. His entire life was dedicated to the manosphere – from his books to the last word on his sites.

But whenever you accumulate a lot of energy in one direction, you create an opportunity for the pendulum to swing toward the opposite end of the spectrum with an equal force.

A basic example of this phenomenon would be an obese person who suddenly becomes a health freak and starts focusing on living a healthy lifestyle with as much enthusiasm as previously invested in gluttony.

I experienced the pendulum effect when I was a student. Up until the second part of 7th grade I had very poor results in school. But at that point, I went full nerd and reversed my itinerary.

People couldn’t believe it. I went from being the loser of the class to the guy with some of the highest grades. Ironically, that ended too, but that’s for a different post.

In the case of RooshV, the polar opposite of his previous lifestyle was righteous living as required by Christianity.

He went from being somewhat of a player (as mentioned earlier most people never fully bought that act) to a devoted Christian.

His previous lifestyle was murdered.

No more “bangs”.

No more weird approaches

Going to church as frequently as possible

Reading the bible and other religious books

Growing an “anti-PUA” beard

roosh v road trip

RooshV Didn’t Follow The Pride Way, At First

Unlike Victor Pride, RooshV didn’t label his entire work as of the devil. Instead, he removed the problematic elements. That included his most popular book Game – a best-seller filled with multiple “red pills”.

He also introduced a ton of limitations to his forums…etc.

For a long time, he kept spreading his new message to his previous audience (of course many people weren’t happy) via new posts, live chats, videos…etc.

His approach was better and more balanced. Instead of abandoning everything, he recalibrated it according to his new compass.

Why People Felt Cheated

Many of RooshV’s followers were sad and disappointed. They felt as if they’d lost a good friend. And to a large extent that was indeed the case. The old RooshV was dead.

The guy who was teaching them how to increase their odds of having sexual outcomes with random women transformed into a monk.

That would be the equivalent of injecting steroids into your body for decades only to become a born-again natural who denounces all PEDs.

Many of RooshV’s followers didn’t know what to do. Their hero and teacher was no longer invested in his previous principles. The switch initiated a ton of hesitation within RooshV’s following. Some coped via anger while others applauded him.

But it went deeper than that.

Men were losing faith in the entire manosphere. If the prominent figures like Pride and RooshV were retiring from the game what were the “foot soldiers” supposed to do?

Personally, I knew that another person teaching the same ideology with a different spin was going to fill the niche.

What niche you ask?

The male self-improvement niche.

The reason why people like Pride and RooshV became popular in the first place was the male struggle in the modern world. Many men live an alienated and lonely lifestyle because we are now on the so-called free market due to the Internet (dating apps) and globalization.

In the past, your competition were mainly the people you knew in person. Today, you have to compete against the entire world.

Dating apps illustrate this perfectly. An average woman can now register on a dating app and have a multitude of male companions to choose from. As a result, the effort needed to secure an average woman is much greater due to the never-ending competition.

Nothing is stopping an NFL superstar from signing on the same app and matching with a girl that would’ve been yours a decade ago.

And that niche is still present to this day. It’s even bigger than the days when Pride and RooshV were popular.

Somewhat ironically, the men filling it are also richer and more powerful than RooshV and Pride.

E.g., Andrew Tate and his group of alleged billionaires.

Full DELETION

Last year, RooshV went all the way and deleted his entire online presence including his website and the forums.

Then, he announced that he was working a “regular job” whatever that meant, and said goodbye to everyone.

Currently, he isn’t present on the Internet unless we count the short clips recorded by other people.

So, what caused this drastic movement?

  • He no longer believed in the mission. He wanted to exit his previous existence. His willingness to abandon everything in the name of God was also a clear signal that he’d reached a higher degree of faith.
  • He was tired of the Internet and computers in general. He’d spent his prime in front of a screen and probably wanted a break from digital slavery.
  • He was no longer the young hungry guy willing to derail his entire existence and lifestyle to increase his chance of having sexual intercourse with random women.
  • He didn’t want to fight his critics anymore. He wanted to escape his fame as it’d become more detrimental than helpful.
  • He felt lonely as many of his online friends were gone. When you do this long enough, you have no choice but to witness people come and go. And that applies to your colleagues/competitors and followers.

RooshV Was a Victim of Self-absorption, Just like Pride

RooshV spent many years alone. When you are young, the idea of living on your own and having no one to answer to is cool, but as the years accumulate, that freedom transforms into loneliness and mental torture.

One of the reasons for that is the non-stop self-obsession. You become a victim of the intense modern individualism common for first-worlders.

The modern humanoid is 100% focused on himself and constantly tortured by self-improvement questions such as:

  • Am I following the right diet?
  • What are the best exercises for my biceps?
  • What clothes should I be wearing?

…etc.

This type of obsession is tolerable until 35-40 at best. After that, your headspace becomes a personal hell in a compact form.

At that point, focusing too much on yourself is a form of regression. You are no longer learning anything useful. You’re simply re-reading a book that you’ve already analyzed 1000 times. The only way to upgrade at that point is to aim higher than yourself.

RooshV didn’t have children at the time and his new mission provided an opportunity to escape his personal hell.

Why We Miss Them

On many occasions, I’ve experienced nostalgia for some of the old content creators (not just Pride and RooshV) that disappeared from the scene long ago. Sometimes I even use the web archive website to read their old work.

Why? What makes them so special?

It’s a bit like passing next to your old school. It’s not different than the rest of them, but it’s special because you were there. You feel it closer to your heart…

That said, another reason would be the lack of relatable figures. As I said before, people like Andrew Tate are not relatable to guys like me.

Also, it seems that the manosphere has moved to YouTube and TikTok whereas the crowd of RooshV and Pride preferred text materials in the form of forums and blog posts. I am the same way.

Truthseeker, people are waking up to the fact that Brad Pitt wasn’t natural in fight club I always knew since there were scenes were he had an androgenic shoulders popping out. People are also realising that you can be underweight example 5’11 155 pounds 70kg and not be natural like Brad Pitt. It’s in the forum here.

https://www.reddit.com/r/nattyorjuice/comments/mbzvve/redpill_brad_pitt_was_not_natty_in_fight_club/

' width=

I was banned on reddit and decided not to participate on the platform. I am boycotting all big tech companies at the moment.

But I will make an account and will analyze the post.

' width=

I don’t see the point of this reddit post or your comment. Maybe Brad Pitt wasn’t “natural”, so, what’s the big let down? The whole point of the natty-or-not format is to understand whether something is achievable naturally or not. Being around 70kg very lean can be achieved by someone standing around 1.80cm without the usage of anabolic steroids, end of story.

btw thruthseeker already made a post about it: https://nattyornot.com/example-physiques-achievable-naturally-without-steroids/

' width=

As someone standing 5,10 ft tall (1.78/9 m. Not 1.80 m but pretty close lol) who has been always around 60 kg and 70 kg despite not training intensely or following a diet, I can certify this.

Each body is a different world and, for some guys like me, the struggle is to actually gain weight after a certain threshold rather than losing it. Brad Pitt’s physique in Fight Club seems achievable to me without artificial hormones or steroids. How easy or difficult would it be to keep depends on one’s own metabolism.

' width=

Yet another case where the image presented on the internet is absolutely nothing like reality. What a shock.

Really though there is almost nothing on the internet that’s true to reality. Guys like this are more a kin to victims of the falsehood of internet persona. He believed the hype and thought he would try to live the lie. As always, this was unsustainable; a fool’s errand from the onset and he arrived at the logical conclusion.

You can also add the casino slot addiction in the form of short videos (reels, TikTok…etc.) to the equation. It’s hypnotizing.

' width=

Roosh’s forum became a religious extremest site with only hard core Orthodox Christians accepted.

I was banned on the forum simply for telling the guys that Trump was not going to be declared the 2020 winner election winner a month after he lost.

He is simply a case of an extremist who converts to another type of extremism as the pendulum swings. Who knows what he will embrace next.

I wasn’t part of the forums. Thank you for providing this clarification.

' width=

Truth Seeker The conclusion is; You cannot fill the emptiness inside you with – women, money, etc. We are lost souls guided by a system that hates us, and they encourage us to do evil things to ourselves and others, and they award us with material things, as if they really mean something!?

' width=

He had a legitimate conversion to Christianity as many of us have had. The new believers are often unbalanced and fanatical until the reality of how hard it is to live in this fallen world. I’m happy he left his boring, lonely degenerate lifestyle. Nothing sadder than an old PUA playing the same old lame and lonely game

In my late 20s (I’m 30 years old now) I kind of experimented with PUA concepts and lifestyle as a way to fill a void. Soon I reached the conclusion that it is pretty unsustainable even for an extrovert.

I’m more on the introvert side, but the demands and nonsensical expectations PUA involves would quickly drain even the most social guy. It could only somehow work if you have a lot of money and free time to spare, but even then hedonism gets old and unsatisfying sooner than later for people who, deep inside, want something deeper than just quick pleasure.

Thanks brother for the article.Really good in the money.Kelly did the same thing went dark online and he works as carpenter with his father. This idea of been in front of computer screen all day long sucks. Also you should write of exposed of Andrew Tate. This guy had been on the market for a long time and one time he used to sell expensive red pill courses.

Truth Seeker,

I’ve reached the same point as Roosh right now because I realized that:

– I haven’t made any progress at the gym for the past 3 years because I don’t want to juice. – Chasing women takes way too much time and energy. – Making more money requires me to do things that I consider immoral.

Basically, I reach the cracking point when it comes to self improvement and can’t believe that my whole life has been a lie.

I still don’t believe in getting married and raising children, or becoming religious because neither my parents nor the religious people around me were sane.

How would you go about exiting the individualism hell and the profound sadness that arises after you realize that life sucks no matter what you do? Some people navigate towards stoicism but I’m not sure if it’s more self improvement.

Please share your insight and some resources if possible.

' width=

Truthseeker, am I missing something or are there no dates on your articles? There aren’t any on the comments. Is there a reason for this? I for one would prefer to know when you (or someone else) wrote something. Should be an easy fix. Cheers.

' width=

I’ve thought the same thing often. It’s probably the only “bad” thing I have noticed here 🙂 Sometimes it would be also nice to compare your articles release dates to those who are trying to steal your content.

My css file is all messed up. It has an insane amount of lines and I need to fix it.

That’s really not a big issue, you’ve already delivered millions of times whit great content which is far more important. I certainly can’t complain much, because my experience with css-files is only few lines long 😀

Roosh V.

Can someone please send mushrooms to all the men’s rights activists out there?

Arwa Mahdawi

If Roosh V, rape-apologist and leading voice in the online ‘manosphere’, can change his ways, perhaps psychedelics can advance feminism

Sign up for the Week in Patriarchy, a newsletter on feminism and sexism sent every Saturday.

Roosh V has been ‘God-pilled’

The internet’s most infamous pickup artist and rape-apologist recently announced that he “received a message while on mushrooms” and has found God. Daryush Valizadeh, who goes by the name Roosh V, will no longer allow any discussion of casual sex on the online forum he runs, and is asking users to discuss topics like “sexual activity while married” instead.

A misogynist’s psychedelic mushroom trip wouldn’t normally be newsworthy, but Roosh is one of the leading voices in the online “manosphere”. Described by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a “male supremacist”, Roosh has grown a devoted following by promoting a hateful ideology he describes as “neomasculinity” and sharing predatory tips for “seducing” women by ignoring them when they say “no”.

From the comfort of his mother’s basement , Roosh has spent the last decade publishing vile posts like: “5 Reasons to Date a Girl with an Eating Disorder”, “The Intellectual Inferiority of Women”, and “Street Harassment Is a Myth Invented by Socially Retarded White Women.” He’s organized fat-shaming campaigns and once notoriously suggested rape should be legal on private property because then women would be more careful about who they went home with. (He later claimed this was “satire”). He’s a douchebag but, more dangerously, he’s an influential douchebag. Hordes of angry young men listen to him.

So has Roosh now changed his ways? Will he be preaching peace, consensual love, and feminism to his angry acolytes? That’s probably far too much to hope, but one can be cautiously optimistic that he has had a positive change of perspective. In a recent post on his forum he writes that “The God pill does feel like the final destination, where life becomes about asking Him for help and performing His will in a way that embraces good. My mind is currently buzzing with this new perspective, and I wouldn’t be surprised if much of my new work will be framed around it.”

Can someone please send mushrooms to all the men’s rights activists out there? If milkshakes can curb fascism, perhaps psychedelics can advance feminism.

Siri likes being called a slut

A new United Nations report has found that AI voice assistants, which are set to have female voices by default, are reinforcing harmful gender stereotypes. The report also includes a disturbing section about voice assistants’ docile responses to sexual harassment and gendered language. If you call Siri a “slut”, for example, one of her programmed replies is “I’d blush if I could.” MIT Technology Review has a good summary of the report here .

Women outperform men after Japanese medical school stops doctoring results

Last year Tokyo Medical University admitted it spent more than a decade rigging test results in favour of male applicants. One anonymous official said the unethical practice was a “necessary evil” because, you know, women would go off and have kids, and not take being a doctor seriously. Now that the university has stopped rigging the results, women are doing better than men and the gender gap at the school has narrowed . Never let anyone tell you that increasing diversity means “lowering the bar”; very clearly, the opposite is true.

Air conditioning is a cruel tool of the patriarchy

A new study has found women think better when they are not forced to work in a freezing cold office. This will come as a surprise to no one.

Male faces dominate the news on Facebook

A new study from the Pew Research Center has found men are overrepresented in the images accompanying news stories published on Facebook by American media outlets. Pew also found that when it came to economy-related posts , images exclusively showed women 9% of the time, men were shown 69% of the time.

The Trump administration introduces new anti-transgender rules

On Wednesday, the Department of Housing and Urban Development proposed a bigoted new rule that would allow homeless shelters to stop transgender people from entering. On Friday the Trump administration further announced a proposal to get rid of Obama-era rules that protect transgender people from being discriminated against by health providers. The right isn’t just out to police women’s reproductive rights, they want to control all bodies that aren’t rich, white and cis male.

Bonobo mothers are wild

New research suggests that bonobos are very pushy mothers and make it their mission for their sons to have as many kids as possible. They introduce them to eligible women and make sure their courtship isn’t interrupted. “Once I saw a mother pulling a [rival] male away by the leg,” one primatologist told the Guardian. “It doesn’t necessarily increase their son’s mating success, but it shows that they really get involved in the whole business.”

Noxious Pickup Artist Roosh Says He Has Found God

The raging misogynist is now banning discussion of casual sex from his online forum.

roosh v road trip

Bartek Kucharczyk/WikiCommons

Daryush Valizadeh, aka “ Roosh ,” one of the loudest, most vulgar voices in the misogynistic “manosphere” and an infamous advocate for state-sanctioned rape, appears to have found God.

In a recent post on his personal forum, where users come to brag about their conquests and share their best pickup lines, the blogger announced he was “coming out” as an Orthodox Christian. He said he was inspired by the death of his sister, the decline of society, and a recent psychedelic mushroom trip. He titled the post “The God pill.”

“The God pill does feel like the final destination, where life becomes about asking Him for help and performing His will in a way that embraces good,” Valizadeh wrote in the post, which was first reported by the site We Hunted the Mammoth .

“My mind is currently buzzing with this new perspective, and I wouldn't be surprised if much of my new work will be framed around it.”

Valizadeh, who made a career out of teaching men how to pick up women, proceeded to ban forum participants from discussing casual sex and hooking up. Topics such as “meeting women with the intention of fornicating with them” and “how to bang” are now banned from the pages, while discussion of “going on dates,” “attracting women,” and “sexual activity while married” is encouraged. Valizadeh’s book, Bang —which he billed as “a tightly written, no-bullshit textbook on getting laid”—is out of print and no longer available for sale on his website.

“I was baptized in an Armenian Apostolic church as a child,” he tweeted. “I'm going to remain Orthodox. I do believe that Jesus Christ was the Son of God.”

Valizadeh did not respond to emails and calls seeking comment.

Valizadeh initially rose to internet notoriety as a pickup artist in 2007, blogging about his attempted seductions in Washington, D.C., and on trips abroad. Valizadeh’s fans pored over his posts for clues on how they could get laid, right as pickup artistry was enjoying a popular moment driven by the hit book The Game .

He sold his own series of books, premised on the idea that he could teach readers how to “bang” in countries like Colombia. Valizadeh’s method often faltered in countries with stronger social safety nets, though. Fuming after an unsuccessful trip to Denmark, Valizadeh warned his fans “don’t bang Denmark.” (The Roosh V forum rules now explicitly ban asking about where to travel to have sex.)

As pickup artist fever cooled online, Valizadeh, like other members of the anger-filled subculture, moved on to far-right politics and more explicit online misogyny.

He launched an explicitly anti-women site, Return of Kings, which promoted fat-shaming women online and ran articles with titles like “5 Reasons To Date A Girl With An Eating Disorder.” In 2015, Valizadeh proposed making rape legal on private property. He eventually shut down Return of Kings in late 2018, after a Paypal made it difficult for him to make money through the site.

Valizadeh has also made inroads with white nationalist groups, even though he is not white. In 2015, Valizadeh gave a speech at a conference organized by white nationalist leader Richard Spencer. Racial differences aside, Valizadeh and white nationalist groups have found common ground on the idea that “feminism is behind the decline of Western Civilization,” according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Valizadeh’s new focus on finding a wife mirrors the changes in the extremist “manosphere” over the past decade. Initially, would-be pickup artists believed in promises from gurus that they would have no difficulty finding casual sexual partners if they just followed certain rules. When those available women failed to materialize, many amateur pickup artists claimed that the real issue was modern feminism. On their forums, they began to focus instead on finding just one, traditional, often virginal woman to marry: a so-called “trad wife.”

Valizadeh’s embrace of religion may be an attempt to pivot to this new, more fashionable brand of misogyny. But the blogger claims finding God was the result of more emotional life events. In since-deleted tweets on the subject, Valizadeh linked to a eulogy for his sister in which he claimed her death from cancer in March 2018 made him feel “like a fool” for his pursuit of fame and women. A message he received while on psychedelic mushrooms, he wrote in his forum post, “further cemented that faith.”

“This was the hardest thing I've ever had to write in my life, but it had to be shared for you to understand where the path is taking me next,” he tweeted. “The blue, red, and black pills were transitory stages I had to experience in order to take the final ‘pill’: God.”

Some of the guru’s adherents appeared satisfied with the change. One commenter on his forum posted called it “the single most intriguing thing you've written to date.” Another commenter said he was going through the exact same changes in life. A recent tweet, in which Valizadeh compared a woman leading a man over a bridge to Satan leading someone into hell, garnered more than 2,500 likes.

But others were less impressed. “Any change that leads to Roosh not interacting with women at all seems like a net good,” writer Sara Luterman snarked on Twitter. Rebecca Schoenkopf, editor of the blog Wonkette, added she was “not buying it for a second.”

And while Valizadeh claims his views on sex have changed, his disdain for women remains. He recently tweeted a video of a woman being violently pulled from the roof of a car and criticized women who “dress like prostitutes at the gym.”

In a recent livestream titled “Holy Water,” Valizadeh explained that it was women’s fault that men were committing sins. It was Eve, he pointed out, who ate the apple first, and Adam—”that big dummy”—who made the mistake of following her.

“This is what us men have been doing, this is what I have been doing, and I have the words to prove it,” he told his 50,000 followers. “I have chronicled how I have done this… And what do you get out of that? Nothing. All that you get is a book out of it that you’re embarrassed by.”

Roosh’s Argentina Compendium: Pickup Tips, City Guides, and Stories by Roosh V

roosh v road trip

Hi! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed , DLive channel , Telegram channel , Twitch channel , and YouTube channel , as well as follow me on Anchor . Thanks for visiting!

What do you think of when you think of Argentina? Wine perhaps, or Buenos Aires, “the Paris of South America.” You might also think of the women, who are some of the most gorgeous in Latin America. A damn shame that actually sleeping with one is near-impossible.

Fortunately, world-traveling player Roosh is here to save the day again.

Roosh’s Argentina Compendium is what it sounds like: a compilation of all the info Roosh has gathered on Argentine girls. Cracking their code is a near-Herculean task due to their socially retarded and conservative ways, but Roosh will arm you with the tools you need to succeed:

Turns out it is very easy to talk to Argentine girls, but hard to escalate. Every guy has a story that starts with “She was loving me” and ends with “Fuck, I don’t what happened.” I’m pretty sure that the novelty of talking to a gringo (there aren’t many here) makes them excited to chat for the first 20 minutes or so, giving me the impression that she is into me. Once the novelty wears off and the language barrier becomes more obvious and painful, things fade out. So you need to talk to enough girls to catch one whose attraction for you is enough to overcome the language problem. It helps if she hasn’t been laid in a while.

Argentine girls behave in a way that is borderline antisocial, going hot and cold with guys and generally playing them for fools. Pure ballsy persistence is the only way to shatter their barricades:

She texted me on a day I had mentioned I might be free, asking if I could meet up later in the evening. The plan was to simply not respond and leave her hanging, but I just couldn’t do it. It’s too mean to leave someone out there like that so I eventually replied (with an excuse, but at least she got a response). It’s almost evil how disrespectful Argentine girls can be. While we do see issues like flakiness in Colombia and even Brazil, at least those girls have the consideration to let you down easy. It seems like in Argentina the girls have a goal to make you feel like shit, at multiple points in the seduction.

Like Roosh’s other travel guides, Roosh’s Argentina Compendium goes over every detail you could possibly need to know; city guides, nightlife tips and survival advice. Rounding out the book are personal stories from his visits there.

Given the high difficulty level of bedding Argentine girls, you absolutely need to buy the Compendium if you’re planning a trip down to the land of frigid but beautiful girls.

La Rural no dirá adiós a World Padel Tour: cancelan el Buenos Aires Padel Master

La Rural no dirá adiós a World Padel Tour: cancelan el Buenos Aires Padel Master

Nacho G. Perulero
