The 30 Most Absurd Celebrity Riders of All Time

These are just a little over-the-top.

Alex Warner

Ask and you shall receive—at least when it comes to celebrity riders (a list of demands stars write into their performance contracts). From Justin Timberlake's ridiculous request to have doorknobs cleaned to Beyoncé needing her dressing room set to a very specific temperature, these are the most outrageous requirements.

Adele

For Adele, it was very important that she receive  one pack of Marlboro Lights  and a lighter, as was included in her rider for the “Adele 21” tour. She also requested she be given two bottles of "the best quality Californian red wine and one bottle of the best quality Californian Sauvignon Blanc white wine (chilled). NO CHARDONNAY!"

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber

When he was first starting his career in 2010, Bieber’s riders were simple: lots of  snack food . Now, eight years later, Bieber’s riders include  10 luxury Sedans , a massage table, and a private jet on standby for any of his travel desires.

Beyoncé

Beyoncé

Don't bring Coca-Cola products near Queen Bey, as she’s in a contract with Pepsi and drinking anything else would break it. Also requested in her hospitality rider: heavily seasoned, baked chicken legs, breasts, and wings (don’t forget to the hot sauce). And as if performing didn’t make her sweat, Beyoncé likes the temperature in her dressing room to be set to  78 degrees  at all times.

Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera

The singer really  hates traffic , so to bypass any on her way to a venue, she requests a police escort, adding that “under no circumstances are the vehicles to be allowed to encounter any delays due to traffic.”

Drake

Among his  list of requests while on tour , Drake’s weirdest is four dozen natural-scented incense sticks. Less surprising: a *ton* of alcohol, including bottles of Hennessy or Courvoisier, Patron Silver Tequila, Grey Goose Vodka, Jack Daniels, and Heineken.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift

Swift loves her  Starbucks  so much that her very specific order has to be delivered to her before 11 a.m. The order includes 1 Grande ICED Caramel Latte with 2 Sweet-N-Lows, 1 Grande ICED Americano with 2 Sweet-N-Lows and soy milk, and 1 slice of Pumpkin loaf.

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez

Post 2014 break up  with Justin Bieber, Gomez had declared no one she worked with could go by the name “Justin.” Apparently quite a few crew members had the name and therefore were given different monikers during her time of mourning. Other than that one strange request, Gomez just needs  chicken pot pie and pickles .

Rihanna

During her “Last Girl on Earth” world tour in 2010, Rihanna’s rider included  one large fur rug  (preferably animal-printed) for her to walk on barefoot. Apparently she was also very big into curtains, specifically blue or black with “icy-blue chiffon” and white curtains to cover any lockers or bricks.

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake

The “Sexy Back” singer is very health conscious and, according to his rider, he requires someone to  disinfect the doorknobs  of any backstage venue or hotel he's in every two hours. On top of that, it’s necessary for him to have the elevator to himself and an entire floor of a hotel.

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez

It’s  all-white everything  for Lopez. Her rider says all objects, from the curtains down to the candles, must be the creamy shade.

Katy Perry

The “Extraterrestrial” singer is a little  extra with her food requests . Perry’s snack list is complete with unsweetened, dried apples and pears, and lightly salted, dry-roasted edamame. And if you ever plan to send Perry flowers, under absolutely no circumstances should they be carnations.

Jay-Z

In his spring 2009 production rider, the rapper demanded that he have  seven dressing rooms  (one for every day of the week maybe?). And Jay-Z was also in need of some “good quality peanut butter” and “good quality jelly” to, you know, make some really bomb PB&J sandwiches in his down time.

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey

For a tour, Carey requested a bottle of Cristal champagne, complete  with bendy straws for sipping . Oh, and she was also in need of a person whose sole purpose was to throw away her gum.

Joe Jonas

At the top of Joe Jonas’ rider:  12 puppies . He revealed that it’s been on his rider for a while, but this is the one thing he doesn't always get. He said only occasionally will “a city will show up with 12 puppies" for him. Other than that, he just wants beer and meat pies.

Kanye West

In one of his previous tours, Kanye  bolded the most important things  to him on his rider. Chief among the requested: Carmex chapstick, Sunkist salted pistachios, bottles of Propel Water, and booze—a bottle of Hennessy, Skyy or Absolut Vodka, Patron Silver Tequila, and four 6-packs of Heineken. During his “Saint Pablo” tour, Kanye’s wife Kim Kardashian, posted a photo of  alcohol-infused slushie machines  in his dressing room, and we can only assume that means they were put there by demand.

Lady Gaga

Gaga has made some pretty unusual requests, one being a mannequin with " puffy pink public hair ” (we think she meant  pubic  hair, but hey, who knows!) for her “Monster Ball” tour. She also was in need of some extra long straws and lots of tea—as any true fan knows, she’s obsessed with it.

Kevin Hart

Hart’s request could be the most absurd yet. He asked to have  five women  between the ages of 21-27 “with an athletic/sexy build” at the venue one hour ahead of time and to stay one hour after. The ridiculous rider said T-shirts and tights would be provided to the women and the only “sizes are x-small, small, and medium.”

Britney Spears

Britney Spears

During her performance in London’s O2 Arena, Spears requested that a framed photo of Princess Diana be hung in her dressing room because,  reportedly,  "Britney adores the monarchy. Diana was in many ways her inspiration." She also really wanted some McDonald’s cheeseburgers...but hold the buns.

Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan

Before she was to appear on a Russian talk show, Lohan sent a list of demands, one of which included  meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin . She also requested she be given a one-year visa, private jet, and $650,000 for her appearance on the show.

George Clooney

George Clooney

Supposedly, Clooney requested a hot tub,  custom-made beach hut , and basketball court to be installed near his trailer while making the movie  Gravity .

Mary J. Blige

Mary J. Blige

She’s apparently  not a fan of public toilets . Her rider states she needs her own private one, complete with new seat. Plus, any hotel she stays in must have king-sized beds, because “twin beds are unacceptable.”

Madonna

Her biggest request, and we mean biggest as in number, was  a 200-person entourage . Oh, and she’s adamant about her backstage room resembling her own personal home, with flower-scented fabric furniture

Eminem

The rapper could care less about the furniture is his dressing room—his rider only lays out  what food he should have . And he’s a kid at heart, requesting 6 Lunchables—3 turkeys and 3 hams if we’re being specific. He must also have a love for Diet Coke, because he needed 24 cans and 24 plastic bottles of it.

Ne-Yo

The singer needs a lot of alcohol to be stocked in his dressing room, including  a bottle of Ketel One . But this isn’t the kind of vodka for drinking. Ne-Yo requested a bottle for the sole purpose of using it to clean things, though the rider didn’t specify what things that would be.

Cher

Cher and her managers don’t wear backstage passes. End of story. Her rider points out that people should familiarize themselves with their faces because they won’t be wearing them. Oh, and she’ll take  one separate room for all her wigs  too.

Prince

The “Purple Rain” singer made one of the biggest requests to date in 2007, asking the venue’s owner to build him  a luxury five-bedroom home  near the O2 Arena in London. In  his 2004 rider  he required that “all items in dressing room must be covered by clear plastic wrap until uncovered by main artist. This is absolutely necessary.”

Whitney Houston

Whitney Houston

Per her rider, Houston requested that she be transported in an “armored”  Mercedes Benz  or BMW 740.

One Direction

One Direction

The now-split boy band had some pretty fun requests for their 2015 “On the Road Again” tour, including a fridge stocked with beer at all times, lots of KFC,  a ping-pong table , and soft toilet paper. This all seems pretty doable compared to what other celebrities have asked for.

Will Ferrell

Will Ferrell

Like many of the roles he takes on, Ferrell has some pretty funny requests—and we’re not sure if they were to be taken seriously. Items included an electric three wheel mobility scooter,  a flight of stairs on wheels , a fake tree on wheels, and a rainbow on wheels. We’re seeing the pattern here.

Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney

Quite the opposite of Rihanna, McCartney requested  all items be animal-free , including food, materials, and prints (no plush fur rug for him). His rider states that “there will be no meat, or meat by-products allowed to be served in the dressing rooms, production office, or areas within the 'backstage area.'” If he’s not eating meat, no one can.

crazy celebrity tour demands

Celebrity tour riders: The 9 most ridiculous demands

J. Lo prefers all-white decor, Mary J. Blige demands a fresh toilet seat... and M.I.A. would like 3 young women dancing in full-body burqas, thank you

  • Newsletter sign up Newsletter

M.I.A.'s tour demands, which included dancing, burka-clad women, rank up there among the most extreme rider requests.

During a 1982 world tour, Van Halen made the now-legendary stipulation that all brown M&Ms be removed from candy dishes in the rockers' dressing rooms. Ever since, fans and critics have made a hobby of perusing celebrities' often outlandish demands — called riders — for what venues must provide them during appearances. This week, "Paper Planes" singer/Super Bowl bird-flipper M.I.A.'s tour rider leaked — and it's a doozy . Buried among requests for Vitamin Water and European cheeses is the demand for "three women between the ages of 20 and 25 to dance on stage wearing full-body burqas." As heads spin from that peculiar request, here's a look back at eight of the most ridiculous items on other celebrity riders:

1. Kanye West

On the same day M.I.A.'s ludicrous request surfaced, a rider leaked from Kanye West's recent visit to Australia. On the list: Imported and recut Versace towels, for starters. "What else would he wipe his brow with during a performance?" says Ray Rahman at Entertainment Weekly . But more unusual is his requirement that any chauffeur who drives him wear only 100 percent cotton clothes. "No man-made fibers."

2. Britney Spears

Britney demanded a veritable feast when she performed at London's 02 arena last year, requesting that the venue provide her with McDonald's cheeseburgers (no buns), 100 figs and prunes, and — fitting for the location — a fish-and-chips supper. But all that pales in comparison with her strangest dressing room request: A framed photo of Princess Diana. "Britney adores the monarchy," says the U.K.'s Mirror . "Diana was in many ways her inspiration."

3. Foo Fighters

The Foo Fighters may have the most "hilarious" backstage rider of all time, says Simon Vozick-Levinson at Rolling Stone . The rockers are known for sneaking jokes into their list of demands, and topped themselves with a cheeky rider for their 2011 world tour. It included a coloring book, activity pages, and maxims for life: "No one likes a straight A student." The funniest page of the document provides an illustrated guide to the kind of catering the band expects. A drawing of a sandwich with a pile of rocks is branded "Lame Entree," while a steak and baked potato sketch is described as an "Awesome Entree."

4. Mary J. Blige

Thirty-five cities, 35 toilet seats. That's the takeaway from Mary J. Blige's 2006 tour rider, which demanded that each venue install a brand new toilet seat in the dressing room bathroom before she arrived. She also cherishes her privacy. Her request that housekeeping personnel at the hotels she stays at honor her "Do Not Disturb" sign is punctuated by 26 exclamation points.

5. Dustin Diamond

Don't call him Screech. The former Saved by the Bell actor turned reality TV and amateur porn star demands that any event he is booked for refrain from any "Screech-centric" billing. Any venue that violates this stipulation by promoting the event using his ties to Saved by the Bell will be levied with a $100 fine for every offending ad, flyer, or marquee.

6. Katy Perry

Kanye West isn't the only entertainer to have special demands for his driver. For her 2011 U.S. tour, Katy Perry had a 23-point "principle driver policy" that specifically dictated the proper behavior of those tasked with carting her around. One explicit rule, according to the policy, is that drivers must not converse with Perry. The Smoking Gun reports that they "also are directed not to stare at the backseat through the rearview mirror."

7. Justin Bieber

The current prince of pop's tour rider is suitably "squeaky clean," says The Smoking Gun , noting his reasonable requests for fruit platters and herbal teas. Apparently, he also requires his entourage's wardrobe be just as clean, as he also demands four packages of plain white tee shirts and three packages of lo-rise socks — all in various sizes — be stocked in his dressing room.

8. Jennifer Lopez

Just because she was making a charity appearance doesn't mean Jennifer Lopez was going to ease up on her diva demands. While attending a recording session for the African AIDS charity single "What's Going On" in 2002, she submitted her standard tour rider, which demanded a 40-foot trailer furnished all in white from top to bottom — flowers, tablecloths, drapery, couches, candles… everything. "Love don't cost a thing," says Gary Susman at Entertainment Weekly . "But being a diva sure can be expensive."

Celebrity Gossip

29 Totally Insane Celebrity Tour Demands

By Author Tattle Taylor at Sep 18, 2015 • Category Beyonce

We all know demanding people in our day to day life. The person who MUST have a certain coffee cup from the company stash. The one who can’t STAND if the office manager doesn’t buy a certain creamer. That guy who complains to anyone who can hear if he has to park somewhere other than his “usual” spot.

Those people can be total buzzkills.

Well, guess what. Some of our celebrities can be demanding too. But this is what it takes to get them on the stage, so managers and reps and venue personnel the world over meet their demands and enjoy their brush with fame. (Or they don’t. That’s totally possible.)

Check out 29 outrageous celebrity tour demands! So. Many. Snacks. (And so. many. towels.)

Miley Cyrus

The Hollywood Gossip Logo

Sigh. Once upon a time all she wanted backstage was Guitar Hero and Frosted Flakes because she didn’t want to stop rocking. There’s really no telling the myriad ways her demands have grown as she’s gotten increasingly more…out there.

Pharrell Williams

Pharrell Williams once requested a troupe of belly dancers. Guess that’s why he was so damn happy. (Badum CHHHHH…)

Long before Kanye West was Kim Kardashian’s baby daddy, his tour rider held the demand that his dressing suite be entirely white, floor to ceiling. Now he’s added an $8,000 bed (EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLAR BED) for North, as well as the tot’s own personal chef to make her favorite meals with organic foods.

Taylor Swift

Among some of Taylor Swift’s very first tour demands were: edamame (which she noted came from the frozen aisle of the grocery store), Starbucks grandes, and Ben & Jerry’s. Throw in some Ugg boots and it just doesn’t get much more basic than T.Swift.

Kid Rock is a simple man, really. His request? Packs of Hanes or Fruit of the Loom underwear, white one-pocket tees, white tank tops, and white socks.

Gwen Stefani

The No Doubt front-woman, solo artist, mom of three, and judge of The Voice *used to* request “bright white rooms,” 30 bottles of water, 10 white towels, 4 white candles (all the same scent), and a pesticide-free buffet. (Are you sensing a trend here with all the requests for white everything?)

Pitbull may have repped Budweiser on stage, but behind the scenes the “beer of champions” was nowhere on his list. Corona was king, followed by 3 bottles of Ketel One vodka and 1 bottle each of Patron, Hennessy, and a Moet varietal.

Christina Aguilera

We’re pretty sure Christina Aguilera’s demands have changed slightly over the years. The most recent reports reveal she wants no styrofoam or plastic involved with her food preparation, Flintstones vitamins, Carnation Instant Breakfast, and a side of Nesquick.

Jennifer Lopez

J. Lo isn’t called “La Diva Latina” for nothing. She’s always had a crazy tour rider, but given the fact that she’s one of the hardest working women in showbiz, she deserves it. Among her requests are white flowers, tablecloths, curtains, candles, and couches, low-watt bulbs. The whackiest of all is that she demands her coffee be stirred in a counter-clockwise direction.

The artist formerly known as P.Diddy has one of the longest and most impressive tour riders in the business. He’s there to party as much as he is to perform. He wants 204 towels, 20 bars of soap, 2 bottles Hennessy, 2 bottles Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, 2 bottles of Veuve Clicquot, and 1 bottle each of Dom Perignon and Grey Goose. He ALSO wants a boombox, white flowers, cheddar cheese, sour cream and onion chips, SweeTarts, and a $300,000 bulletproof Maybach.

In contrast to P.Diddy, DMX’s requests were simple. Three boxes of condoms and a gallon of Hennessy.

In her heyday, Cher could’ve commanded absolutely anything she wanted. What did she ask for? A separate room for her wigs. But let’s be real. Her wigs and headpieces were (and are) so large the average person could probably get lost in them. A separate room is probably necessary.

Elton John has some very specific floral requests. The flowers must be fresh and arrangements cannot include mums, lilies, carnations, or daisies. He also asks for 74 fresh towels.

David Hasselhoff

Best known in America for his roles on Knight Rider and Baywatch, David Hasselhoff is sort of washed up here. The Hoff is a very, very big deal in Germany. Like, for real. What did he ask for? A life-size cut-out…of himself.

Britney Spears

Britney Spears has never been known for her smart and healthy dietary choices. One need look no further than her backstage requests for proof. Froot Loops, Cap’n Crunch, Pop Tarts, Gatorade, Doritos, bunless In-n-Out Burgers, and up to four pounds of potato salad are what she requires. That sort of explains the 24/7 life coach. AND maybe the 200 fresh towels. #Barf

Michael Buble

Michael Buble is pretty easy to please. As a diehard hockey fan, his only request is a puck from the local team wherever he’s performing.

This might have been before he was a family man, but Jay Z wanted a gentlemen’s club vibe backstage, complete with a full-time, on-call cigar roller for the entire duration of his tours.

Beyonce’s backstage requests range from normal to…well…a toilet freshly scrubbed with disinfectant. Aside from that she wants Pepsi products, Honey Nut Cheerios, ginger root, and a 2-man loveseat.

Barbra Streisand

You may not know this, but Barbra Streisand has a rose named after her. That’s probably because when she was on tour she demanded that her dressing room toilet be scattered with rose petals.

Marilyn Manson

For all of his creepy stage theatrics and weird lyrics, Marilyn Manson is actually a pretty chill guy backstage. And by chill we mean he wants the air-conditioner blasting as cold as it will go, Haribo gummi bears (as if there are any other kind), Doritos, microwave popcorn, and a bottle of absinthe to wash it all down.

James Brown

James Brown had some of the more disturbing requests back in the day. He wanted 2 girls under the age of 21 and a ladies’ hair dryer.

The Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones, as a group, decided on shepherd’s pie and paintbrushes (????) for their backstage delights. They also wanted a pool table, a TV capable of broadcasting cricket matches, and a toilet. On wheels.

Prince, one of the least scandalous and most sexual artists of all times, has but one request backstage. Keep all his food covered in clear plastic wrap.

Motley Crue

Motley Crue’s tour requests are, well, a bit motley. They want mayonnaise, Grey Poupon, creamy peanut butter, a 12-foot long boa constrictor (because 11 feet isn’t long enough??), a sub-machine gun, annnnnnd the schedule for all the local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Ozzy Osbourne

Ozzy Osbourne has been all over the place throughout his career. From crazy and always high to trying to maintain his sobriety and health. That’s where his latest tour requests come from. He wanted 3 oxygen tanks and a “real” Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor on site to administer B12 shots.

Metallica wanted bacon. That’s it. Just bacon.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have one of the most ethereal requests we’ve seen. They need a medication room–it cannot be blue–aromatherapy candles, fresh ginger root, fresh papaya juice, and 24 1-liter bottles of glacier water from either Hawaii or Australia.

Slash, once upon a time part of Guns n Roses, had his own requests independent of those of the band. He likes square melons, 7 types of cheeses, six lamps, a rug, and 2 bear shaped pots of honey waiting for him backstage. Until 2010 he also requested his room be all black, decorated only with red and white roses.

When Coldplay goes on tour, their lists are simple. And sweet. They want vodka and Red bull, cotton socks, and various snacks, but they also want pre-stamped postcards to send sweet notes home to their families. Awww!

30 Most OUTRAGEOUS Tour Rider Demands

Dec. 26 2014, Updated 7:08 a.m. ET

Give us M&Ms – but no brown ones! So cried the rock band Van Halen and ever since, tour riders in which stars give concert promoters their list of demands have become notorious. Who needed a room just for her wigs? Which star wanted an all-white color scheme backstage? How many bottles of alcohol did a singing diva request? We’ve reported on celebrities’ backstage wish lists before, now check out RadarOnline.com’s guide to MORE outrageous, funny, and just plain weird tour rider stipulations.

Ke$ha : The “Tik Tok” singer put herself into rehab for an eating disorder in 2014. For her tour rider the year before, Ke$ha requested very little food—and four bottles of alcohol. As Perez Hilton reported, Ke$ha wanted vegetarian hand rolls without rice and NO mayonnaise, one raw vegetable tray, one tray of steamed vegetables or dried veggie snacks from Whole Foods if possible… along with one bottle of Don Julio or Patron Tequila, two bottles of “nice” Cabernet, and one bottle of vodka — Grey Goose preferred.

Miley Cyrus : The pop star told OK! during her Bangerz Tour she liked to rock out even in her dressing room. “In my tour rider I used to ask for Guitar Hero and Frosted Flakes. Now I just kind of want the Guitar Hero,” Cyrus said.

Kanye West : As RadarOnline.com has reported, Kim Kardashian ’s rapper husband has made his own backstage demands, including wanting all-white décor in his dressing room. But now that he’s a dad, West is including riders for daughter North . The little girl reportedly needs a special $8,000 bed in the green room, plus a TV full of her favorite programs, and a personal chef on hand to prepare her favorite meals using only the finest organic ingredients, a source claimed.

Cher : “It’s A Woman’s World” indeed, at least if it’s Cher! While performing, the veteran diva wants the security of knowing she has a separate room just for her wigs.

Jennifer Lopez : The diva has reportedly issued a bunch of different tour mandates; according to the book The Little Red Riders Book: The Backstage Requests Of Rock 'n' Roll's Most Famous Artists , Lopez has requested white flowers, white tablecloths, white curtains, white candles, and white couches. J. Lo also wanted low-watt light bulbs and her coffee to be stirred counter-clockwise, sources said.

Taylor Swift : The singer was still a sweet country teen in 2008, as her tour rider revealed. Swift helpfully explained one of her needs: “1 Bag frozen Edemame (it's soy beans...in frozen vegetable section).” Too bad she misspelled Edamame! The star also wanted Starbucks’ grandes, and ‘Ben/Jerry's” pints delivered to her bus but her taste in spaghetti sauce was more simple--Ragu!

Gwen Stefani : She’s a judge on The Voice now and her tastes might have changed, but in 2007, while on her Sweet Escape tour, Stefani wanted her room bathed in bright white light. According to a website report, the singer also asked for 30 bottles of water and a pesticide-free buffet including an assortment of teas, fruit, cashews, almonds, vegetables and ranch dressing. And Stefani required ten white towels and four aromatherapy candles, all of which had to be the same scent.

Pitbull : The hip hop star has plugged Bud Light, but his 2010-11 tour rider on revealed he required promoters to provide him with a case of Corona beer. In addition to the 24 Coronas, Pitbull demanded three bottles of Ketel One vodka, and single bottles of Patron tequila, Hennessy cognac, and champagne (either Moët Rose Imperial or Moët Nectar Imperial).

Michael Buble : In an unusual request, the smooth Canadian singer, who is a big hockey fan, asked for “one local team hockey puck” in his dressing room in every city on tour as part of his rider contract.

Slash : The Guns N’ Roses guitarist’s tour requests have included a square melon, seven types of cheese, six lamps, a rug and two bear shaped pots of honey. Until 2010, Slash demanded that his dressing room to be all black and decorated with red and white roses.

Red Hot Chili Peppers : Being in a rock band is stressful, at least that’s what the Peppers’ request for a backstage meditation room (carpeted floor to ceiling) indicated. Anthony Kiedis and the gang stipulated that the room could be any color except blue. In addition, the band mates wanted aromatherapy candles, fresh ginger root, fresh papaya juice and 24 one-liter bottles of still “glacier water” from either Hawaii or Australia.

Jay-Z : Sources said while on the Legends Of Summer Tour with Justin Timberlake , Jay-Z wanted a “gentleman’s club” atmosphere backstage. The hip hop titan had a full-time, on call cigar roller as part of his entourage.

DMX : The rapper apparently is a man with straightforward needs, according to his tour rider wish list, which included three boxes of condoms and one gallon of Hennessey!

The Rolling Stones : According to the book The Little Red Riders Book: The Backstage Requests Of Rock 'n' Roll's Most Famous Artists , the veteran rock band wanted the following on tour: shepherd's pie, paintbrushes, a snooker table, a TV capable of showing cricket matches and a toilet on wheels.

James Brown : The R & B icon died in 2006, but his bizarre backstage requests will never be forgotten: “Two girls under the age of 21 and a ladies' hair dryer.”

Marilyn Manson : The shock rocker likes to stay cool, as he’s demanded air-conditioning always on full blast in his dressing room. Manson’s food needs included Haribo gummi bears, Doritos, and microwave popcorn—along with a bottle of absinthe. In a no-doubt joking request, he also asked for “a bald hooker with no teeth.”

Prince : Food safety was apparently on the diminutive “Purple Rain” singer’s mind. One of his tour riders stipulated all his dressing room food must be covered in clear plastic wrap.

Motley Crue : Ah, the life of a rock band! A tour rider revealed for Motley Crue, it apparently includes mayonnaise, Grey Poupon Dijon mustard, creamy peanut butter, a 12 foot long boa constrictor, a sub-machine gun and local Alcoholics' Anonymous meeting schedules.

David Hasselhoff : The Little Red Riders Book: The Backstage Requests Of Rock 'n' Roll's Most Famous Artists claimed that the Baywatch star, who hit it big as a singer in Germany, wanted a life-size cut-out of David Hasselhoff near him.

Britney Spears : It might not be much of a surprise that the pop star has asked for junk food during her Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood. Star magazine reported, “Britney is insisting on Fruit Loops, Pop-Tarts, Cap'n Crunch, Gatorade, Doritos and potato salad,” said a source. “Plus In-N-Out cheeseburgers without buns, a life coach on call 24/7 and 200 fresh towels a day.” When Spears was briefly a judge on X Factor USA, her rider included four pints of potato salad.

Beyonce : Queen B stayed true to the products she represented, mandating Pepsi products only backstage , as well as Honey Nut Cheerios, ginger root, a two-man love seat, and her toilet scrubbed with disinfectant. The singer banned sweets and chocolate or crisps from her dressing room. But another report noted she’d once asked for juicy baked chicken, HEAVILY seasoned with fresh garlic, season salt, black pepper, and Cayenne pepper.

Elton John : TheSmokingGun.com reported that the flamboyant “Rocket Man” asked for 74 towels to be provided for him, as well as fresh flowers (but NO chrysanthemums, lilies, carnations or daisies).

Barbra Streisand : Memories…of a real diva! Streisand reportedly asked for rose petals to be scattered in her dressing room toilet.

P Diddy : The dapper hip hop mogul known for his luxury lifestyle had a LOT riding on his tour, said The Little Red Riders Book , including 204 towels, 20 bars of soap, two bottles of Hennessy cognac, two bottles of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, two bottles of Veuve Clicquot, a bottle of Dom Perignon, Grey Goose vodka, a boom box, a bouquet of white flowers, cheddar cheese, sour-cream chips, Sweet Tarts and a $300,000 bullet-proof Maybach.

Metallica : The heavy metal band kept things sizzling backstage by requesting bacon! The rockers reportedly noted that bacon was “very important” and should be available for every meal while they were on their 2004 tour.

Christina Aguilera : Picky, picky! The singer and The Voice judge has an environmentally conscious rule that no styrofoam or plastic goods shall be used while preparing her food backstage. But it has been reported that Xtina also requires a small bottle of “Flintstones” vitamins with extra vitamin C, Carnation Malt-Flavored Instant Breakfast and a container of Chocolate Nesquick.

Ozzy Osbourne : When he was touring with Black Sabbath in 1999 and trying to stay healthy, rock’s ‘Prince of Darkness’ requested three oxygen tanks to be available along with a “real ear, nose and throat doctor” for when Osbourne arrived at the concert venue to give him a B-12 shot for energy.

Kid Rock : The rocker asked for the usual snacks in his dressing room at concerts – but in a more wacky demand, Kid Rock also asked venues for a selection of Fruit of the Loom or Hanes underwear, including a pack of white T-shirts (with pocket), a pack of white tank tops, a pack of white boxer shorts (size medium), and a pack of white crew socks. Never let them see you sweat?

Pharrell Williams : What makes him “Happy”? The singer allegedly once asked for a troupe of belly dancers backstage.

Coldplay : TheSmokingGun.com has frequently exposed celebrity tour riders and the website published a 2003 document for Chris Martin’s band. The guys wanted vodka, Red Bull, cotton socks and various snacks. But Martin ( long before his split from Gwyneth Paltrow ) and his band mates also had a sweet request for pre-stamped local postcards so they could send them to their family members from the road.

Every so often, the tour rider for a certain act or band will appear online, inspiring discussion of how ridiculous, crazy, and absurd said act or band is with their requests while out on the road.

In addition to outlining security, insurance policies, and other technical items, these lists provide some insight into exactly what makes your favorite act tick while hanging out backstage. It also sheds some light on just  how comfortable they need to be before rocking a huge crowd.

Many times, a rider is actually revealing of the the non-diva qualities of certain music superstars like  Nicki Minaj  and Rihanna , whose "zaniest" requests are just a ton of candles, lotions, and choice beverages. But highlighting those riders would be, well, boring compared to those of acts like Metallica , Madonna , and Iggy Pop .

Those three, along with 17 others, appear in our rundown of the craziest tour riders in music history. Read on for reassurance that your life is exceedingly normal.

Craziest request : Nivea chapstick

Drake likes to keep fresh, so he brings along trimmers to avoid nightmares of this . When he last spoke to Complex, he told us he had a built-in shower and it seems he's slightly obsessed by the finer aesthetics.

As such, he carries Dr. Bronner’s peppermint soap, described as something that "tingles the body and clears the mind.” [Insert Drizzy-is-soft jokes, here.] Keep in mind these are items he brings along when performing music on tour, but by the looks of things, you would think he's prepping for his Degrassi  high school reunion.

Full list of items : Four dozen natural-scented incense sticks, Dr. Bronner’s peppermint soap, pork-free food, E-Z Wider rolling papers and a pack of Dutch Master President cigars, Pinot Grigio, Heineken, bottles of Jack Daniel’s, Patron Silver tequila, a bottle of Hennesey or Courvoisier, Grey Goose, Andis T-Outliner trimmers , and extra sets of speakers.

Craziest request : "No less than 10 percent of all security personnel should be female"

Miniature chocolates? Check. A massage room with a ton of ginseng extract? Sure. But female security guards? Not for Bush. During one of their jaunts, the Gavin Rossdale-lead band requested that "ideally no less than 10 percent of all security personnel should be female." Interesting.

Full list of items : Gatorade, soft drinks, skimmed milk, fruitless baskets, Marlboro Lights, hot salsa, and six-packs of beer.

Craziest request : A late model Maybach ('57 or '62) with tinted windows

So Jigga went from Marcy-projects hustler to requesting late model 'Bachs while on tour. What does he need a Maybach for? To take some spins around the parking lot a la "Otis" with some middle-aged chicks? For his safety, let's hope the the ones he's provided with aren't the chopped and screwed ones with missing doors.

As for the champagne and snacks, "I went to One Trump Plaza on their asses/No room service, just snacks and shit"—at least Hov's staying true to his word.

Full list of items : A couple six-packs of Sapporo, a bottle of Belvedere Vodka, two bottles of Patron Silver, two bottles of red, Italian wine from Bolgheri Region, two Ace of Spades bottles, and peanut butter and jelly.

Craziest request : "Access to a 'Rock Friendly' lawyer, medical doctor, dentist, masseuse and/or chiropractor"

Just because a band makes heavy, loud, and moshpit-causing music doesn't mean that the members are down with gettin' wild. And even if they are, they at least want to come prepared. That's where Korn comes in, as they want to make sure they're covered if things get out of control backstage or during the show. What's interesting, though, is that they also request that there are blockades and locked doors all over the place. Better safe than sorry, right?

Full list of items : Phone lines, 20 meals for lunch and dinner, 72 full-size towels, private, clean bathrooms with dimmable lights, ashtrays and rubbish bins.

16. Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails

Craziest  request : Two boxes of corn starch

Over the years, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor has bulked up considerably, but that doesn't mean he's moved away from tight clothing. And to ensure said clothing doesn't stay adhered to his skin during his lively performances, he requests not one but TWO boxes of corn starch. We have to imagine he'd get pretty chafed if NIN didn't come out of the gate with some of their heavier joints ... or if there's any kind of delay.

Full list of items : Budweiser, Bud Lite, "very good" red wine, soft drinks, juice, Gatorade, specific lunch and dinner menus.

15. Foo Fighters

Craziest  request : Various anecdotal requests

The Foo Fighters must take the crown of having the pickiest and most absurd rider requests. This shit is downright outrageous yet amusing. From used DVDs (no sports titles or Martin Lawrence) to any magazine (No Spin , Rolling Stone , or People ) that "show us you have a brain and fantastic interests"—these are full of "WTF" demands. And this one takes the cake: "Please make arrangements for leftover food to be collected by a local soup kitchen, homeless shelter or our roadie that looks like Osama Bin Laden." #EnoughSaid

Full list of items : Iced-down beer, bottles of San Pellegrino water, cooler with ice, small box of Emergen-C, shower gel, DVDs (used are fine), and magazines.

14. Metallica

Craziest  request : Lots of bacon

Nothing says "one of the most successful crossover metal bands in history" like bacon, right? RIGHT? Well, it should, because that's exactly what these guys want when they hit your venue. In fact, it's so important that they want it available for every single meal of the day. But that's not the case for some of the guys on the crew, as they are vegetarians. Why did we point that out? Because Metallica makes that point explicitly in their 24-page tour rider that also outlines the way they want alcohol sales handled, the band's insurance policy, and more than you can imagine.

Full list of items : Hot breakfast for 100 people that includes A LOT of fresh fruit, two gallons of every juice you can think of, nine or so different brands of cereal, assorted sodas and Gatorade flavors, hot coffee that must be kept up, and much more.

13. Gnarls Barkley

Craziest  request : One pack of Magnum condoms

Groupies and artists are a match-made in heaven. And in some cases, these artists are actually smart enough to perform, bang a groupie in their hotel room, and still leave the city knowing they ain't gotta worry about a baby mama. Gnarls Barkley—the duo of Danger Mouse and Cee Lo Green—are veterans in the game so they have a few tricks up their sleeves. Or, at least, they have common knowledge to practice safe sex by stocking up on Magnum condoms while on the road. What's with the athletic socks, though?

Full list of items : At least two pairs of white men's athletic socks, Swisher Sweets blunts, and bottles of Hennessy and Grey Goose.

12. Ozzy Osborne

Craziest  request : A nose, ear and throat doctor

In his younger years, you can bet that Ozzy Osborne asked for some bizarre items to land on his tour rider and, of course, plenty of booze and drugs. But in 1999? Dude just wanted to stay healthy. As such, he made sure a doctor was on hand to take care of his nose, ears, and throat, just in case. Also, Ozzy needed three tanks of oxygen because, apparently, you can never have enough oxygen.

Full list of items : Three oxygens tanks available at load-in and the doctor must be able to administer a B-12 shot. Also, plenty of fire extinguishers.

11. Lil Wayne

Craziest  request : Private jet

You could only imagine what one of the biggest rap stars in the world would bring along on tour. It would be one helluva party—huge entourage, girls, alcohol, the usual. But having superstar status like Weezy requires a little bit of extra, with said extra being a private jet because buses are overrated. Also, he requires a police escort because, let's face it, he's got some enemies out there. Not only that, but his fanbase has reached a pinnacle, meaning plenty of screaming, adoring fans looking to get a piece of Weezy.

Full list of items : Police escort, five-star hotel accommodations, Gatorade, vodka, Red Bull energy drinks, assorted candy and potato chips.

Craziest  request : Female extras at every tour stop

Gummies, vodka, chocolate, blah blah blah. But humans? M.I.A. requests for female extras to be on board for every stop of her tour. Requirement? Lots of stage presence but we're assuming not too much. We're pretty sure she wouldn't want to be overshadowed by her extras, especially when they have to be onstage with her during the entirety of the show while being drapped in Burkas. For someone who has had a history of outrageous and eclectic moments [Read: Super Bowl], should we really be surprised at what M.I.A. needs to keep herself pleased?

Full list of items : Twenty-four 500 mL bottles of non-carbonated spring water. Must be Evian or Fiji. A container of organic dried blueberries, a container of quality assorted olives, a variety of quality chocolates such as Ferrero Rocher, one small bag of sour gummy candy, one 750 mL botlle of Ketel One Vodka, a bottle of Absynthe, a bottle of Mount Gay rum, a six pack of Heineken.

9. Van Halen

Craziest  request : No brown M&Ms

The craziest thing about Van Halen's request for no brown M&Ms is how NOT crazy it actually is but rather how sensible it actually is. So why did these guys, some of the biggest partiers of the '80s, want to make sure there were no brown M&Ms in their candy dishes? Simple: it was all to make sure that every other portion of their rider was followed. Genius, no?

Full list of items : One breakfast for eight people at 6 a.m. followed by another at 8:30 for 20 people. If feasible, said breakfast should be hot and cooked, and it will features four cases of soda, four gallons of milk, two gallons of chocolate milk, two dozen English muffins, two dozen raisin muffins, three loaves of whole-wheat bread, one dozen hard-boiled eggs, assorted cereals, and more.

No beer provided until dinner at 6 p.m., but before that there's a lunch with a minimum of 44 sandwiches and food and drinks for 24 people. At dinner, the meat and vegetable options switch on odd and even days while there are potatoes, breads, and desserts served every days.

Two cases of beer (Heineken and Budweiser) with dinner with two more of those cases given to producer's stage manager at 7 p.m. There are more food and booze requirements for the band outside of their meals along with the request of one large tube of KY Jelly. Sure.

8. Steve Aoki

Craziest  request : Two medium-sized cakes reading “DIM MAK”

Picking out the most ridiculous request by Steve Aoki wasn't easy. The DJ/producer is becoming increasingly well known for his off-the-wall live shows that typically include—you guessed it—those two medium-sized cakes. What does he do with them? Well, let's just say he learned how to share at a young age. Also, props to anyone who requests that he needs an inflatable raft, because nothing says crowd participation like riding their hands like the rapids.

Full list of items "Inflatable boat or dingie, four confetti blast machines, handheld CO2 air blower, no self-powered speakers, only a Pioneer DJM-900 Nexus mixer, and other electronic goodies for his setup. Lots of drinks: 48 bottled waters, four Vita Coco drinks, eight ORGAIN protein drinks, two bottles of premium vodka, three bottles of champagne (cork only!), two bottles of Cristal, and much more booze. Even more food and drinks at the hotel, which must be within two miles of the venue."

Craziest  request : A wig room

Cher stands out like no other when it comes to her public image. The tats, the plastic surgery, and her fashion sense outshine the rest, but it's her ever-changing hairstyles that catch the most attention. Hell, she even has a personal room carrying all her wigs. And if that's not outrageous enough, how about fresh cut Casa Blanca lilies, and 12 black solo cups to keep the Goddess of Pop from throwing a hissy fit and ripping out her hair. No wait...

Full list of items : Black solo cups, lilies, M&Ms, beverages (from soda to alcohol), and pizza.

6. Mary J. Blige

Craziest  request : Private toilet (with new toilet seat)

Nobody likes using the public restroom. Quit frontin', you would rather hold it in than use the toilet at your local Mexican burrito joint. Mary J. Blige knows this better than anyone as she requests her own private toilet (with a new toilet seat!) at every city she visits. She also focuses on coziness, requesting extensive lighting, a humidifier, clothes rack, phone line, flowers, and a love seat. Touring means you'll be away from the comfier aspects of your home, but the queen of hip-hop soul doesn't have to worry about that.

Full list of items : Hot and cold running water, a large vanity with mirror, extensive lighting, humidifiers, a loveseat, matching lamp tables, pack of Mentos, soft drinks, water, and tea.

5. Motley Crue

Craziest  request : A sub-machine gun

You would think the Motley Crue guys would tone the craziness down when they stopped drinking alcohol right? Wrong. In their post-booze days, they could be found requesting 12-foot boa constrictors, a jar of creamy peanut butter, some Grey Poupon mustard, and, oh, a sub-machine gun. Yeah. And in case they got close to wanting another drink, they needed to know the location of the nearest Alcoholics Anonymous meeting that night.

Full list of items : Alcoholics Anonymous meeting locations, a jar of creamy peanut butter, a 12-foot-long boa constrictor, and a jar of Grey Poupon mustard.

Craziest  request : 20 international phone lines

If you're Madonna, you can do whatever the hell you want no matter how outrageous it seems because guess what? You're Madonna. A 200-person entourage that'll put Waka Flocka's crew to shame? Check. 20 international phone lines to call all her celebrity friends and tell them how amazing it is to be Madonna? Check.

And she might as well bring her whole house with her, too, or at least something that closely resembles that. Nothing feels better than home so she ships her home furniture along every stop of the tour to make sure her backstage room looks exactly like the friendly confines of whatever mansion she's living in nowadays.

Full list of items : 200-person entourage, her backstage room must look exactly like her own home (that means she ships around her furniture), special flower-scented fabric, actual flowers, personal chef who prepares only vegan foods, and her own dry-cleaning service.

3. Marilyn Manson

Craziest  request : A bald-headed, toothless hooker

So...anybody got a hook-up on a bald-headed, toothless hooker for Marilyn Manson? [ Silence ]. Props to whoever it is that handles Manson's rider demands, because all the money in the world wouldn't be enough for us take on that impossible task. The champagne, Doritos and cereal with 2% milk may be the closest thing to normal that Marilyn has seen since forever. Those Haribo gummi bears don't count.

Full list of items : Haribo gummi bears, mini chocolates, Doritos, cereal, 2% milk, fine cheeses, champagne (Cristal, Moet), two bottles of Absinthe, and air conditioning.

2. Iggy Pop

Craziest  request : A Bob Hope impersonator

Whether the items requested by Iggy Pop are legit or not, he wins on the basis of wanting a Bob Hope (look him up if that name's not familiar, youngsters) impersonator at every show. Not only that, but Iggy apparently wants to laugh even more, as he desires a copy of USA Today featuring at least one humorous story about obese Americans. Fair enough, Iggy, but what's with the item about the reality TV show in which people eat dog meat? Gross.

Full list of items : Entire pages dedicated to the live mixes, someone who can speak English, location of speakers and amplifiers, and colorful anecdotes about them all, including a rant about Santiago de Compostela. Also, "two dedicated and intensely loyal" security men, strong tea and coffee, assorted food, two "enormous pizzas," bread (baguettes namely), some fruit, and chocolate. "Yum, yum." And 12 bottles of "nice beer," dinner for 10 people as well as Iggy and two others, a deck of playing cards, and more. Iggy's room was to be designed by someone "loose with a little bit of flair."

1. Mariah Carey

Craziest  request : 20 white kittens and 100 doves

Mariah Carey is very diva-ish to say the least. This statement is backed by her trip to celebrate Christmas in London a few years back. The Phantom, pink carpet, security and entourage is understandable, but 20 white kittens and 100 doves are a bit excessive. A source told the Daily Mail , "We did manage to source the doves that we were going to release into the sky, but the kittens proved terribly difficult." Translation: "Like, how the fuck can we find and look after 20 white kittens at a Christmas celebration?" Fortunately for society, the request was turned down due to health and safety concerns.

Full list of items : Rolls-Royce, a pink carpet, pink podium, confetti shaped as butterflies, 80 security guards and 15-person entourage.

The Most Outrageous Backstage Rider Requests Of All Time

Sean Kelly

Bands' backstage contracts, or riders, can be incredibly amusing for fans. Take the Foo Fighters, for instance; they're a band that has never taken themselves too seriously, and their rider shows it. It's full of ridiculous joke requests for outlandish items and services. Sometimes, though, the nutty stuff isn't just written in for fun. Some celebrity riders truly have shockingly ridiculous requests.

And yes, even the greatest bands of all time have some pretty silly demands. From some not-so-surprising requests - like a stockpile of condoms - to stuff that's truly outrageous - like banning people backstage with a certain name - there have been some really incredible dressing room contract demands over the years.

Mariah Carey's Demand For 20 Kittens And 100 Doves

Mariah Carey's Demand For 20 Kittens And 100 Doves

With a reputation for being a diva, nothing Mariah Carey demands in her rider should be too much of a shock. One hundred white doves and a dozen kittens, though? That's pretty extra.

Apparently, Carey wanted these animals surrounding her at an appearance to turn on Christmas lights. She didn't get her wish, though, as it was opposed by health and safety officials.

"We did manage to source the doves that we were going to release into the sky, but the kittens proved terribly difficult," an official stated . "In the end, it was made clear that due to health and safety, there was no way we could have the animals at Westfield. We do not allow pets into Westfield - that rule would apply for everyone."

Christina Aguilera's Traffic Terms

Christina Aguilera's Traffic Terms

According to her tour rider, Christina Aguilera isn't a fan of traffic. In fact, she hates it so much that she demands a police escort to every show. The rider stipulates that Christina and her team need to be escorted through traffic , and that "under no circumstances are the vehicles to be allowed to encounter any delays due to traffic."

That's a pretty intense thing to ask of both a concert promoter and local police.

Kanye's Cotton Condition

Kanye's Cotton Condition

According to a rider from an Australian tour, Kanye West required that his drivers - yes, his drivers -  wear 100% cotton and no other fabric while transporting him from place to place.

That's about as odd a requirement as one could imagine from a pop star at any level.

Madonna's Personal Furnishings

Madonna's Personal Furnishings

Madonna is basically pop royalty, and her tour rider pretty much reflects that. She's got some standard diva stuff in there, like personal chefs and whatnot, but there are also quite a few items that are extravagent and shocking. Would you believe Madonna demands a brand-new toilet seat everywhere she goes?

Stuff like that is rumored to be all over her rider, but there's one requirement that really tops them all: She reportedly ships all of her furniture around with her, and demands that any hotel furniture be removed and replaced with her own. That way, anywhere she goes feels like home.

Slayer's '100 Snow-White Goats'

Slayer's '100 Snow-White Goats'

Slayer's tour rider might get the prize for the weirdest of all time - even though it's very clearly a joke. The metal band requests a variety of outlandish things in their rider, including 50,000 live bees, 10 cases of Gogurt, a Bowflex, a human skull filled with Red Hots, and more.

The thing that makes it the greatest rider ever? Their request for "100 snow-white goats for slaughter." That's a metal rider if there ever was one.

Katy Perry's Flower Embargo

Katy Perry's Flower Embargo

Katy Perry has some pretty specific demands for her floral arrangements backstage - namely, an absolute disdain for carnations. The "Firework" singer apparently asks for "white and purple hydrangeas, pink & white roses and peonies" but makes it clear in all caps (and underlined) that "ABSOLUTELY NO CARNATIONS" are allowed.

Aside from that flower request, Perry's rider stipulates that drivers are under no circumstances allowed to talk to her while she's being escorted, nor are they allowed to even look at her in the rearview mirror.

Axl Rose's Square Melon

Axl Rose's Square Melon

Axl Rose became notorious for his antics and aggressive behavior on stage and off. None of that, however, tops perhaps the strangest thing he's ever done: request a square melon in his tour rider.

Yes, you read that correctly. The Guns N' Roses singer reportedly requested on his rider that venues provide him with a square-shaped melon - something that apparently exists. According to reports, the melon is described as an item that "absolutely can't be missed."

NSYNC's 'Toy' Room

NSYNC's 'Toy' Room

In the backstage rider for NSYNC's world tour, there were plenty of standard items that you'd expect to see on just about any artist's request list. On one page of the rider, however, there was a request for a particularly interesting room alongside standard catering and dressing rooms:  a toy room .

At the time, the members of NSYNC were fairly young, but a toy room still seems unusual. What kind of toys were present in this room? One can only imagine.

Jay-Z's Vintage Maybach With Tinted Windows

Jay-Z's Vintage Maybach With Tinted Windows

When you're Jay-Z, you can pretty much demand anything on the road without question, so it's not totally shocking that he wants the absolute best ground transportation anywhere he goes. In particular, he's requested a black '57 or '62 Maybach with tinted windows.

Also featured in Mr. Beyonce's rider: expensive champagne and a dressing room stocked with booze of all different kinds.

Brandon Flowers's Precise Schedule For Food And Beverages

Brandon Flowers's Precise Schedule For Food And Beverages

The Killers' Brandon Flowers might not seem like the kind of guy to have an odd tour rider demand. According to his solo rider, however, Flowers demands a certain schedule in which his food and beverages will be provided on certain days. Essentially, he bans certain foods from certain days of the week.

In the rider, Flowers's representative says he eats certain preserves only on certain days of the week. Sundays and Tuesdays are reserved for strawberry, for example. Flowers eats apricot preserves on Mondays and Thursdays, and he saves red raspberry jam for Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, according to The Smoking Gun .

Rihanna's Animal Print Throw Rug

Rihanna's Animal Print Throw Rug

A 2010 rider request from singer Rihanna went viral after it was revealed that she demanded an animal print throw rug at every venue.

The rider specifies : "1 Large throw rug, plush and animal print (Cheetah, Leopard), must be CLEAN, as she will walk on it barefoot." The pop star also called for six very specific candles: Archipelago Black Forest Candles.

Van Halen's Infamous M&M Ban

Van Halen's Infamous M&M Ban

Perhaps the most notorious and well-known rider demand in the history of rock and roll, Van Halen's brown M&M's stipulation is actually quite practical and done for a sensible reason. (It's still pretty outrageous, though, if you consider the fact that every single venue had to adhere to these exact demands.)

The story goes that the band, whose shows had intense production and technical specifications that could be immense safety hazards, decided to test production staff at venues in order to gauge whether the technical aspects were up to their standard. If the venue complied with Van Halen's request, and there were indeed  no brown M&M's in their candy bowl, the band knew that the production met all their standards for safety and technical specifications.

The Stones' 'Well Groomed' Hostess Requirement

The Stones' 'Well Groomed' Hostess Requirement

It's easy to give the Rolling Stones a pass on pretty much anything questionable in their tour rider, given that they're one of the most legendary and longest-running bands of all time. That said, one particular request is definitely eyebrow-raising.

According to reports, on their 1997-'98 world tour, the band required that "two smartly-dressed, well groomed hostesses" meet them in their dressing rooms to serve them food. Apparently, it's not as dirty as it sounds; they literally wanted well-dressed female waitresses at their service upon their arrival at the venue.

Beyonce's Backstage Temperature

Beyonce's Backstage Temperature

Turns out, Beyonce is pretty sensitive to temperature. Or at least that appears to be the case, according to a leaked rider. Among such demands, like all white furniture and two bars of Irish Spring soap, Queen Bey insists that the temperature in her dressing room should be a comfortable 72 degrees at all times.

All in all, her rider is pretty tame for one of the most successful pop stars of all time. But it raises the question: What happens if the temperature is a couple degrees off?

Gnarls Barkley's Magnum Condoms

Gnarls Barkley's Magnum Condoms

Gnarls Barkley made some really incredible music, and they took advantage of their fame and popularity by asking for some essentials in their tour rider. Namely, the duo wanted blunts and bottles of Hennessy and Grey Goose vodka. They also required a box of magnum condoms .

The musicians are far from the only ones to request these particular prophylactics. Other stars like Busta Rhymes and 50 Cent have also demanded condoms on the road.

Pharrell's Carl Sagan Stipulation

Pharrell's Carl Sagan Stipulation

Pharrell Williams has acknowleged his love for the late Carl Sagan numerous times, explaining that he's got a deep admiration for the legendary astronomer and cosmologist. Taking his love for Sagan one step further, Williams reportedly requests a photo of Sagan in his dressing room .

"I can only aspire to be someone that people learn as much from as they learned from Carl Sagan. Carl Sagan is to me what A Tribe Called Quest was to [N*E*R*D] for music," Williams said in an interview about Sagan's influence on him.

AC/DC's Oxygen Masks

AC/DC's Oxygen Masks

It's pretty unclear as to why AC/DC would need oxygen tanks and masks on tour, but apparently they do. According to a 2008 rider, the band requested tanks and masks in addition to some pretty reasonable requests, including "fun size" candy bars and a case of beer.

The beer wasn't allowed in dressing rooms before the show, however. Perhaps because they were filling up on oxygen?

Cher's Wig Room

Cher's Wig Room

It shouldn't be surprising that Cher would have a wig room in her backstage rider . The pop star's hair has become a major part of her performances. That said, imagine being such a big star, with so many wigs, that you require an entire room dedicated to them just for your show.

Ne-Yo's Ketel One Cleanser

Ne-Yo's Ketel One Cleanser

For whatever reason, Ne-Yo likes to have a bottle of  Ketel One  handy for cleaning. Yes, the R&B star reportedly requests the popular vodka in every city so that he can use it to clean something, though precisely what is unknown. Clothes, jewelry, microphones?

It's unclear as to why he specifically requires Ketel One, or why he doesn't just have someone take care of his drycleaning, but to each their own.

One Direction's Homemade Desserts

One Direction's Homemade Desserts

It turns out that everyone's favorite short-lived boy band had a collective sweet tooth. One Direction reportedly required an array of "homemade"  desserts backstage, in addition to local fast food depending on where they were (Chick-fil-A or KFC, etc.).

Apparently, Niall Horan's favorite dessert is profiteroles (cream puffs, for American readers).

Jack White's Guac Recipe

Jack White's Guac Recipe

Rocker Jack White went viral after his tour rider leaked and revealed an unorthodox request. Sure, there were some essentials and some unsurprising requirements like specific foods and beverages, but White also included a recipe in his rider for guacamole. According to reports, he requires that the recipe be made prior to his arrival.

In an interview with NPR, chef Martin Morales said he tried the recipe and approved of White's favorite guac. "It's down to the fresh ingredients and the timing of the way each ingredient is put together," Morales said.

Iggy Pop's Preferred Newspaper

Iggy Pop's Preferred Newspaper

Iggy Pop has become known for his backstage riders, which are filled with outlandish requests that are sometimes completely bonkers.

One of the silliest  stipulations in Pop's rider is that he requires an English-language newspaper like  The New York Times -  but also notes that he'd be okay with USA Today if there's a "story about morbidly obese people" in it.

Truly the work of an old-school punk rocker who doesn't take himself too seriously.

Britney Spears's Cheeseburgers Without The Buns

Britney Spears's Cheeseburgers Without The Buns

At a show in London, Britney Spears apparently requested a photo of the late Princess Diana for her dressing room, as well as fish and chips and some other stereotypically British things. The Diana photo, a source said, was because she "adores the monarchy."

"Diana was in many ways her inspiration," the source explained . Spears also requested McDonald's cheeseburgers, minus the buns.

50 Cent's Pork Ban

50 Cent's Pork Ban

50 Cent's rider seems pretty standard, with food and beverage requests, though he apparently doesn't like pork at all.

A leaked rider revealed that the rapper completely banned pork from anywhere in his vicinity at all times. He did, however, welcome a couple boxes of Lifestyles Rough Riders condoms.

The Rolling Stones' Written Instructions

The Rolling Stones' Written Instructions

Sometimes it's easy to forget that the Rolling Stones are old, since they've been touring nonstop for half a century. But, if you need a reminder that they're most certainly aging rockers, look no further than their tour rider.

In their list of venue requirements, the band reportedly specifies that they need written instructions for all electronics in their dressing rooms to ensure that the members know how to use them properly. In other words, they're not very technologically savvy.

The rider, which The Smoking Gun obtained, allegedly includes "natural sented insense sticks” and “Dr. Bronner’s peppermint soap” which, the product, claims will “tingle the body and clear the mind”. The rider does, however, date back to 2010 and as we all know from Drake's 2015 track 'No Tellin'', he's changed since then: "Please do not speak to me like I'm that Drake from four years ago".

7. Future requires "fresh white powdered" doughnuts and lemongrass scented candles.

The leaked rider, allegedly taken from a recent India tour, also includes "a private jet and chopper on stand-by", while his dressing room must be "entirely draped with white curtains". Biebs also demands "purple carnations" and absolutely no lillies, as well as half a gallon of almond milk.

10. Kanye stipulated that his dressing room carpet must be ironed.

The Mirror claims that Yeezus made the request before performing on 'Later... With Jools Holland' in 2014.

11. Mariah Carey asked for a 100 doves and 20 kittens

The Daily Mail claims that the singer requested that Westfield shopping centre provide 100 doves and 20 kittens for her appearance to turn on their Christmas lights in 2009. While they reportedly managed to source the doves, the kittens could not be arranged due to health and safety issues.

12. Lil Wayne demands a police escort and a presidential suite

Is that really necessary now, Marshall Mathers? The rider allegedly dates back to a performance at a festival in Northern Ireland in 2011.

14. DMX just wants Hennessy and THREE BOXES of condoms

He's a man of simple tastes.

15. Jay Z has a full-time cigar rolling assistant on-call

Laughable Backstage Celebrity Demands

Madonna smiling

Being a celebrity affords a person certain luxuries: expensive cars, designer clothes, and the ability to make backstage demands ahead of performances or appearances. And while stars making crazy, ego-hungry requests isn't exactly a new phenomenon, some A-listers take things to a whole new level, foregoing typical orders of candy and fruit and instead asking for — nay, expecting — absurd items in their dressing rooms that most people wouldn't even have in their homes. From custom-made French lamps to 20 international phone lines, some music icons have listed some strange items on their must-have lists. And we have to wonder... what in the world were they thinking?

From a backstage fish pond to the presence of a Bob Hope impersonator, some of these have become the stuff of legend, while others may prove surprising to those who discover just how outrageous and ridiculous these demands can get.

Below are several celebs who have made names for themselves not just with their work as artists but with their ridiculous requests. Keep reading to learn all about the bizarre things some of Hollywood's biggest names allegedly needed to have before and after a show.

It's not unusual for singers and actors to request fresh flowers in their dressing rooms. For Katy Perry, however, that request came to become very specific, underlining what appears to be an extreme dislike of a particular floral variety. Channeling her best Miranda Priestly, Katy Perry allegedly included in her 2011 rider a whole list of specific demands about what kind of flowers were allowed — and not allowed — in her dressing room. According to paperwork obtained by The Smoking Gun , Perry requested "White and purple hydrangeas, pink & white roses and peonies. OR if the above is not available selection of seasonal white flowers to include white orchids."

Sure, that sounds all well and fine, though perhaps just a teensy bit on the difficult side. That is, until you get to the last, random demand: "ABSOLUTELY NO CARNATIONS," the rider read, even adding an underline for emphasis. Okay, but ... why? Actually, scratch that. We don't want to know.

Meanwhile, Perry's 45-page (!) rider also includes details about dressing room food, hotels and transportation, and the latter section features some doozies. Among the highlights: Perry's driver is forbidden to start a conversation with her, talk on a cell phone while driving, or ask for an autograph, particularly while driving (which makes one wonder what kind of experiences Perry has had with drivers in the past). Then there's this emphatic but wildly misspelled gem: "DO NOT STAIR AT THE BACKSEAT THRU THE REARVIEUW MIRROW."

When you've had a long and successful career like Cher's, you can get away with making a fancy request or two, and the "Believe" singer's alleged demands actually make sense. According to documents obtained by The Smoking Gun , many of Cher's requests seemed standard, if not downright reasonable, when she hit the road for her 1999 Do You Believe? tour. These included such items as a table with a white tablecloth, chairs, and fresh flowers — specifically, casa blanca lilies or gardenias.

In her dressing room, Cher requested M&Ms, mixed nuts and two bottles of "fine" wine, one white and one red — and neither could be Kendall Jackson (apparently she's not a fan). Along with a dressing room for herself, she also asked for separate rooms for her male and female dancers, another room for her band, another to house her wardrobe (as fans know, she does a lot of costume changes during a show), and another for someone named Dr. Stacey — which had to be large enough to accommodate a massage table.

She also asked for one additional room, to house her wigs. It's called, obviously, the "Wig Room," according to the report. Honestly, we think anyone paying money to see Cher on tour should expect nothing less.

Over the course of a music career spanning five decades, Madonna has become notorious for her alleged demands and diva-like behavior. However, the "Material Girl" singer allegedly took things one step too far during her MDNA tour in 2012. According to a report by InTouch magazine (via the Daily Mail ), Madonna's list of demands included a 200-person entourage (yep) and "light-pink roses that have stems trimmed to precisely six inches." Perhaps funniest of all, Madonna supposedly demanded 20 international phone lines, as well. Because why not?

She's also very particular about her dressing room and the way in which it's furnished. How particular? "She requires all furniture be removed from the rooms and replaced with her own pieces that she has shipped in," a source told the Mail.

Meanwhile, that massive entourage was reported to include 30 bodyguards, a yoga instructor, personal chefs (yes, plural) and even an acupuncturist. "Madonna has probably the longest list of requirements of any of the world's music stars," a source told the Daily Star, as reported by the Mail. "She expects things to be just right or it puts her off her stage show."

Mariah Carey

It's arguable that nobody has taken the title of "diva" and run with it as successfully and enthusiastically as Mariah Carey. Name another singer who showed up at a press conference accompanied by several shirtless men who kept her champagne glass bubbling while she complained about the ghastly experience of judging wannabe singers on "American Idol."

She's definitely a diva when she goes on tour. In 2009, the Daily Mail reported that Carey requested that 20 white kittens and 100 white doves surround her during a Christmas tree lighting at the Westfield shopping complex in London. She also wanted butterfly-shaped confetti and 80 security guards, among other wacky demands, according to the report (via the New York Daily News ), which also claimed she insisted on being chauffeured to the event in a Rolls Royce, where she would be dropped off at a pink carpet leading to a similarly hued podium.

The end result was one of those good news, bad news situations. "We did manage to source the doves that we were going to release into the sky, but the kittens proved terribly difficult," a source said of attempting to meet her request. "In the end, it was made clear that due to health and safety, there was no way we could have the animals at Westfield. We do not allow pets into Westfield — that rule would apply for everyone." None of this should surprise anyone who caught her infamous episode of MTV Cribs.

Trent Reznor

Unlike some of the lengthier riders that music artists have presented to promoters, Nine Inch Nails only had a modest two-page wish list (obtained by The Smoking Gun ). Tucked away at the end of the list of requested food items, however, was something unusual: two boxes of cornstarch, along with the notation "VERY IMPORTANT!"

So what was with the cornstarch? Was frontman Trent Reznor hiding a secret addiction to fresh-baked cookies? The secret was cracked by The Hollywood Reporter , which noted that Reznor used the corn tarch to remove the skin-tight leather pants he typically wore onstage (anyone who ever watched the "Friends" episode where Ross struggled with getting in and out of similar pants should get the concept).

The cornstarch also served another purpose. In the video for the band's single "Down In It," Reznor covered himself with cornstarch to simulate the look of a rotting corpse, and would often replicate that look onstage. The more you know.

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber has been on the straight and narrow for a few years now, likely coinciding with when he and wife Hailey tied the knot. And while the bad boy behavior of years past appears to be in the rearview mirror, remnants appeared to pop up in his tour riders.

For example, a journalist leaked Bieber's rider during a 2017 tour stop in India, posting it on  Twitter , and the requests were wild. The "Love Yourself" singer's alleged list of must-have included a jacuzzi backstage, two hotels for Bieber and his entourage, a redesigned suite "filled with antique furniture, Mogul art and purple carnations," and a private jet and helicopter on standby, should Bieber feel the urge to go and see the sights. Also requested was "luxury transport" for his entourage of 120 — Bieber himself, however, would be traveling apart from the group, solo in a Rolls Royce — in addition to an "Indian yoga casket" containing an array of essential oils and literature about chakras, to be left for him in his suite.

Other stuff on the extensive list of must-haves included a ping-pong table, a Playstation and a personal masseuse — but not, under any circumstances, are there to be any lilies anywhere in his presence. And when it came to food, well, let's just say the Biebs is quite particular. "Top culinary experts will supervise the gourmet [fare] being served to Bieber over the four days with five dishes per day being renamed after his popular songs," noted the rider.

Kanye West's Saint Pablo Tour fell apart on the heels of a reported breakdown, but when it was up and running, it was truly everything you'd come to expect from the eccentric rapper. Take, for example, a report from  TMZ   alleging that West had requested "two alcoholic machines" to be waiting for him backstage. What was kept in the machines, you ask? Well, according to the report, one was for "dispensing frozen Hennessy and Coke"; the other was kept with "frozen Grey Goose and lemonade." West is allegedly incredibly difficult to manage backstage – but c'mon, a frozen vodka lemonade sounds totally worth the pain.

Of course, those weren't West's only backstage demands. According to a 2007 tour rider that found its way to The Smoking Gun , at the time West was apparently quite focused on moisturizing; among the items listed are Neutrogena, L'Occitane and Nivea products. West was also seemingly battling a dandruff problem, given his request for a bottle of Neutrogena Dandruff Shampoo. West also liked to have fresh underwear on hand, and requested one pair of cotton boxer shorts, size large, colored black.

The rider also included a request for a barber's chair, but that wasn't a dealbreaker, as an addendum noted "if available."

Ever hear the story about Van Halen demanding that no brown M&Ms be allowed backstage? Well, despite the absurd nature of the tale, it actually turned out to be true, though for reasons you may not expect.

In a video posted to Vimeo in 2012 (via NPR ), former frontman David Lee Roth explained that the diva-like request was added to the rider not because the band hated the look or taste of brown M&Ms, but as a way to confirm whether venues had actually read and understood the intense lighting requirements for its concerts. If brown M&Ms weren't there, the group knew the facility had read all the paperwork. If those brown candies were present, the band knew it had a problem—something potentially far worse than chocolate melting in your hand.

As Roth confirmed , it was for that reason that the band took the M&Ms clause very seriously. According to Roth, the contract stipulated that if even a single banned brown M&M was backstage, the promoter would forfeit the proceeds of the entire show, in full. "This was touted wildly and widely as simple rock star misdemeanor excess, and being abusive of others simply because we could," Roth said, admitting that he and the other members of the band were happy to have that misconception become part of the Van Halen legend. "Who am I to get in the way of a good rumor?" he quipped.

Considering he went through a bizarre fashion phase that involved oversized hats, one might expect Pharrell's backstage demands to be rather, you know, eccentric. Still, the world was caught by surprise when he told the  Today show in 2014 that he requested a framed photo of astrophysicist Carl Sagan in his dressing room.

"I watched 'Cosmos' as a child and I was always blown away by [Sagan's] mind and the way he thought," Pharrell said. "When I look at that picture I realize how lucky we all are...to be on this planet and be able to do what we love to do every day. Seeing Carl's face reminds me of it."

Of course, that wasn't his only rider request. According to The Smoking Gun , Pharrell also requested that all advertising signs within the venue be darkened or covered. "We are not hawking pizza or the local ambulance chaser in your burg," the rider declared. Additionally, a "well rested, sober" guard was ordered to be on duty in close proximity to tour vehicles, and that said security guard had better be "less concerned with texting or twittering than keeping fans/stalkers from infiltrating the venue and work areas therein."

Looking to book Jack White for an upcoming concert? Well, you might have to contend with  this tour rider , which reportedly contained not only a request for "fresh home-made guacamole" but an actual recipe for how to make it. According to  NPR , that recipe includes eight Haas avocados, "vine-ripened tomatoes," serrano peppers and fresh cilantro, and must not be prepared too far in advance (which is totally understandable — when it comes to guacamole, freshness is everything).

In fact, superstar chef Martin Morales, owner of London's Ceviche restaurant, actually made guacamole using White's recipe — and confirmed it was pretty darned good. In fact, Morales confirmed to NPR that White's request to not whip up the guac too early and leave it hanging around was a super solid one. "If you leave that guacamole sitting there for hours and hours, if you mix it up too much, everything will go limp and it will just be like a damp, soggy, sloppy salad," he explained. "No one wants that."

It's a pretty bonkers demand, to be sure, and yet, given the fact that The White Stripes' "Elephant" is one of the greatest records of the last 20 years, not to mention that guacamole might be the world's best dip ever, we can kind of understand where White is coming from.

Danielle 'Cash Me Outside' Bregoli

If you rose to fame thanks to a bizarre catchphrase you uttered on an episode of "Dr. Phil," we wouldn't blame you for trying to milk every second of your 15 minutes of fame.

That appeared to be the strategy for Danielle "Cash Me Outside" Bregoli as she prepared to take her no-nonsense attitude out on tour. According to  TMZ , Bregoli's tour rider listed a whole bunch of laugh-worthy demands, including a $750 per diem and an extra $3,000 to pay for security. Her other demands included, in no particular order: a 50-inch TV with Netflix and a DVD player so she could watch the subject-to-change "House of Wax" (the Paris Hilton version, mind you); four large Domino's pizzas; a fruit platter that better not have even the teensiest trace of pineapple on it; three fidget spinners; and five white tank tops that could be either Gildan or Fruit of the Loom brand — but "absolutely" not Hanes.

Of course, you could try to supply her with white tank tops by Hanes, but would you really want to deal with the consequences?

Steve Harvey

Steve Harvey's terrible, no good, very bad past couple of years hit another hiccup in May 2017 when  Chicago blogger Robert Feder obtained a memo Harvey sent to his talk show's staff in Los Angeles. He basically told them to stay the you-know-what away from him backstage. "There will be no meetings in my dressing room. No stopping by or popping in. NO ONE. Do not come to my dressing room unless invited. Do not open my dressing room door. IF YOU OPEN MY DOOR, EXPECT TO BE REMOVED," Harvey wrote in the memo.

Harvey not only confirmed the memo but defended it under the guise of simply wanting more "me time" during the day. "I'm in my makeup chair, they walk in the room. I'm having lunch, they walk in, they don't knock. I'm in the hallway, I'm getting ambushed by people with friends that come to the show and having me sign this and do this. I just said, 'Wait a minute,'" he told  Entertainment Tonight . "And in hindsight, I probably should've handled it a little bit differently." You think?

Barbra Streisand

Rumors that Barbra Streisand is a diva have dogged this songstress for decades. However, few rumors are as wild as this 2017 report from the   Daily Mail , which alleged that the "Funny Girl" legend asked the staff of a hotel just outside London to observe Los Angeles time to help Streisand get over her jet lag. Yep, that would mean that she allegedly "enjoyed breakfast at 4pm, lunch at about 9pm, followed by spa treatments, then had dinner delivered to her luxury suite at 2am."

The report also claimed Streisand asked the hotel to "provide a hand-made box filled with freshly cut turf so her dog Samantha...could go to the [bathroom] on the balcony outside her room" and to also provide "bespoke wooden stairs to help Samantha climb up to her multi-millionaire owner's bed."

Of course, the experience of hosting an icon like Streisand came with its perks. According to one staffer, "There was one day when Barbra was in the Jacuzzi and she broke into song. It was wonderful. Whatever people want, they can ask for. We do the best we can because it's important."

Mary J. Blige

Listen: nobody wants to deal with a messy bathroom. However, some of the demands featured in one of Mary J. Blige's alleged tour riders take cleanliness to a whole new level. In documents obtained by The Smoking Gun , Blige's dressing room reportedly had to have a private and brand new toilet seat. Of course, this now has us thinking about every hotel we've ever stayed at and the millions of people who stayed there before we did. Maybe she's onto something.

Blige's rider also included another bathroom demand, indicating that the "Family Affair" singer has some very particular expectations when it comes to towels. "PURCHASER shall supply ARTIST'S Production Manager with TEN (10) MEDIUM prewashed bath-sized towels at designated load-in time," one clause in the rider detailed. "Small towels will not be accepted."

In addition, Blige insisted that the backstage area contain one sofa and one loveseat, each upholstered in "fine fabric" — and absolutely not leather.

Kandi Burruss

The  ladies of Bravo's "Real Housewives" franchise are known for  creating a whole lot of drama, so learning that Kandi Burruss of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" has her own rider looks to be right on brand. That said, actually reading the contents of the rider is certain to elicit a wide range of reactions, from rolling one's eyes in disbelief to full-on laughter.

According to a report from  TMZ , Burruss' many demands during live appearances included a police escort accompanying her vehicle, because "under no circumstance shall Kandi be delayed arriving at or departing." And then there are her bathroom expectations. Not only did Burruss demand a new toilet seat, the celebrity even wanted hers "installed under the supervision of the road manager or an assistant." That bathroom also needed to be well stocked with a specific brand of toilet paper, Cottonelle. And get this: the paperwork also requested fried chicken from Popeyes. "Please do not substitute for KFC or Churches," the contract read. "We know the difference."

To which we say: respect!

Given Beyoncé's status at the top of the music industry food chain, it would be reasonable to assume that she expects things to be exactly as she wants them when she goes on tour. Those assumptions, reported HuffPost , would be correct, according to a copy of Queen Bey's rider from her 2013 Mrs. Carter Show world tour obtained by Daily Star.

Among the diva-like demands listed in the rider: brand-new toilet seats, and red toilet paper; a supply of alkaline water, chilled to a precise 21 degrees Fahrenheit, accompanied by $900 titanium straws with which to sip it; and round balls of ice, carved by hand, in order to cool the singer's throat. In addition, all members of the road crew must be attired in clothing made from 100 percent cotton.

Of course, HuffPost also pointed out that they'd been unable to confirm whether the rider was legit, and cautioned readers to take it all with a large grain of salt — given that the NFL refuted a TMZ report that she'd demanded the installation of a $1-million nursery for daughter Blue Ivy, and $6,000 worth of imported cigars for husband Jay-Z, when she performed at the 2013 Super Bowl halftime show. As Brian McCarthy, NFL VP of communications, told the outlet, that report was "pure pulp fiction," adding, "Beyoncé and her team have been great to work with throughout this process. We have enjoyed her creativity, vision and spirit in putting on a great show that is truly a Super Bowl performance."

Liza Minnelli

Back in 2014, Page Six reported that Liza Minnelli had signed on to film a TV commercial for Pine Brothers Softish Throat Drops, planned to air during that year's Golden Glove Awards. According to the outlet, Minnelli's list of demands for the shoot included two cartons of cigarettes, a humidifier ("because she can't breathe"), six cases of an antioxidant beverage, several towels (which had to be black, and made from Egyptian cotton), two scales (one for herself, another for her food), silver trays (and absolutely no Styrofoam plates), an elaborate coffee service costing $400, and, of course, a full hair and makeup team.

Even though the commercial's producers agreed to all those demands, on the day that filming was supposed to take place, Minnelli was a no-show. According to a source, Minnelli had suffered some kind of panic attack, and refused to exit her home. "Producers begged Liza to leave her apartment, which was only a few blocks away, and come to the shoot," a source told Page Six. "She refused, saying this was 'too much pressure.'"

Caught in a bind, Pine Brothers owner Rider McDowell called up Martha Stewart, who reportedly showed up within an hour and shot the commercial in about 30 minutes (and reportedly earned a cool million for it). "We reached out to Martha ... after our first actress had a nervous breakdown the morning of the shoot," McDowell confirmed to Business Insider , tactfully neglecting to mention Minnelli by name.

Richard Melville Hall, better known by his stage name of Moby, isn't the kind of guy one would expect to besiege concert promoters with weird requests. The Smoking Gun obtained a copy of his 1999 rider, and for the most part it appears boringly normal. In fact, the biggest requests are for 30 comp concert tickets for Moby to give to whomever he chooses, insisting on the right for members of his crew to sell Moby merch, and transportation for 11 people. Other items of interest included a big emphasis on no smoking anywhere in Moby's vicinity, as well as a call for inclusion. "There shall be no restriction on admission for reason of sex, race, religion or any other prejudice," read a sentence in the rider with which most people would certainly agree.

One section, however, is something of an eyebrow raiser, an item that he requested backstage: "10 pairs of white cotton crew socks and 10 cotton boxer shorts."

Look, Moby isn't the only artist to have requested a fresh pair of underwear in a rider. As for why he requires so many pairs, however, well, that's probably a matter best left between Moby and his gastroenterologist.

Frank Sinatra

While tales of outrageous backstage demands are typically associated with out-of-control rock stars, it appears that they may have simply been following the template already laid down by old-school entertainers. Case in point: Frank Sinatra, whose rider for his Sinatra 75 tour was unearthed by Forbes , and revealed some pretty extravagant requests.

According to the rider, Ol' Blue Eyes' opening act, Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, requested only coffee and water in their dressing room. Sinatra, by contrast, had a lengthy list of 37 items required in his dressing room. These included a color TV, an upright piano, and a variety of Lifesavers and cough drops. Sinatra also insisted on some food at the ready, including three cans of Campbell's chicken and rice soup — along with a crock pot which would be used to heat it up — along with a ladle, four soup bowls (porcelain, please), plus an assortment of coffee, tea, and soda, both diet and non-diet varieties. Additional foods included a fruit bowl, cheese tray, two egg-salad sandwiches, two chicken-salad sandwiches, two ham and cheese sandwiches, chips, pretzels, and mini Tootsie rolls.

Sinatra also expected a fully stocked bar backstage, requiring vodka, whiskey, scotch, gin, both white and red wine, and a bottle of Courvoisier cognac — plus a carton of unfiltered Camel cigarettes. According to Tom Brady (not the football player), who unearthed the rider, Sinatra would typically spend all of 20 minutes or so in his dressing room.

John Mayer has enjoyed an enviable career, both on and off the stage. In addition to his Grammy-winning work as a solo artist and his years on the road with Grateful Dead revival Dead & Company, he's also romanced a who's who of female stars, ranging from Taylor Swift to Jessica Simpson and many others.

As it turned out, Mayer's reputation as a legendary Lothario was bolstered by the list of backstage items requested in his 2005 tour rider. According to The Smoking Gun , Mayer was apparently quite focused on maintaining exceptional oral hygiene and minty-fresh breath. Among the stuff listed in the seven-page rider are no less than four toothbrushes, a bottle of Listerine mouthwash, two tubes of toothpaste, and two cans of Altoids breath-freshening mints. Mayer also wanted to ensure his lips were soft and kissable, and required four lip balms — organic, of course.

Mayer's roster of requests also represented some other aspects of his personality, with his intellectual curiosity reflected in his demand for that day's copy of the New York Times. His whimsical side, however, was indulged via his request for a "Kids Brand Cereal." In that respect, Mayer wasn't that particular, with the rider explaining he'd be happy with Cap'n Crunch, Count Chocula, Lucky Charms, Cookie Crisp, or even Cinnamon Toast Crunch. As for his additional request for two tubes of Krazy Glue, The Smoking Gun theorized he would use them to glue together his split fingertips after an evening of guitar virtuosity.

Grace Jones

Grace Jones is best known for such 1980s dance hits as "Slave to the Rhythm" and "Pull Up to My Bumper," and her acting roles in films including "Conan the Destroyer" and the James Bond flick "A View to a Kill." As Gawker reported back in 2015, she's also a bit of a handful for promoters when she performs live.

As the outlet noted, Jones included her tour rider at the end of her cheekily titled memoir, "I'll Never Write My Memoirs," and shared an excerpt with readers. Among the amenities Jones expects when touring are the presidential suite of a hotel, a stretch limo (which she can use at her discretion), and a 300 Euro per diem (and an additional 150 Euro for each member of her crew). If that sounds a touch on the extravagant side, that's small potatoes compared to what she demands when it comes to food and drink. Among her requests: six bottles of Louis Roederer Cristal Champagne, three bottles each of red and white "vintage" French wine, along with sushi and sashimi platters ample enough to serve eight people.

Jones is also apparently a fiend for fresh-from-the ocean shellfish. Also included in the rider are two dozen oysters — either Findeclare or Colchester — placed on ice. Thankfully, promoters won't have to worry about opening up those shells; as the rider helpfully pointed out, "Grace does her own shucking."

Prince, who died in 2016, had become nearly as famous for his offstage eccentricities as his music. Those personality quirks were on full display back in 2008 when HuffPost reported on his alleged demands ahead of a concert in London, which included a demand that his suite in the Dorchester Hotel be redesigned entirely in black, from the paint on the walls to the furnishings to the picture frames. When Prince was booked to headline a U.K. music festival in 2011, The Sun (via Tone Deaf ) reported that he demanded his dressing room be painted purple, and requested a limo to drive him from the dressing room to the stage — a distance of about 80 feet.

In 2014, reported Bang Showbiz , he insisted there be no stairs in any of his hotel suites, and insisted that any "obstructive rugs" be removed. "Prince's list of demands has been going out to all his hotels in the U.K. before he arrives at them," said an insider. ”His requests all have to be fulfilled or he won't turn up to play.”

Those demands paled in comparison to what he asked for in 2007 when he played O2 Arena in London: a custom-built, five-bedroom mansion in which he could live, constructed within the arena grounds. "He has had some pretty wild nights out in London and loves all that the capital has to offer, so it makes sense for him to have a more permanent base here," a source told the Daily Mail .

Back in 2011, Eminem was tapped to headline the Vital festival in Northern Ireland, significant at the time as it marked his first-ever gig in Northern Ireland. When the "Lose Yourself" rapper's rider was revealed by Contact Music , one specific line item stood out: he demanded a small pond be constructed in the backstage area where he'd be hanging out, with said pond to be stocked with expensive koi fish. Whether that was a serious request or a goof, however, has never really been revealed.

Meanwhile, The Smoking Gun managed to obtain a copy of his 2010 tour rider — and while there was no mention of fish, there were plenty of food items listed, ranging from all the ingredients for a PB&J to loads of jumbo shrimp (with cocktail sauce, of course) to few Lunchables snack packs. Eminem was also looking to do a little pumping up before the show, judging from his request that his dressing room be equipped with 25-lb dumbbells.

Legendary proto punk Iggy Pop has been a rock star since the 1960s, when he fronted The Stooges before becoming a solo act. When The Smoking Gun obtained a copy of the rider from his 2006 reunion tour with The Stooges, it wasn't so much what he asked for, but how. As TSG pointed out, the hefty 18-page rider was written by Jos Grain, one of Pop's roadies, and it is truly a hilarious read. For example, in addition to hilariously detailed instructions on sound-mixing, lighting and stage setup, Grain also offered some offbeat suggestions on how to furnish the dressing room. "You known what would be really nice?" Grain asks. "If you could make this room look less like a typical rock & roll dressing room and more sort of ... Interesting? Are you with me? Just let someone loose with a little bit of artistic flair ... Er, do you know any homosexuals? And am I allowed to say that? Probably not." The rider also requested two industrial-strength fans. "He's practicing that scarf thing that they used to do in Bon Jovi and Heart videos," Grain wrote.

Hands-down the nuttiest thing in the rider is a request for somebody backstage costumed as legendary comedian Bob Hope. "Doing fantastic Bob Hope impersonations and telling all those hilarious Bob Hope jokes about golf and Hollywood and Bing Crosby," Grain added.

Diva Moments! Selena Gomez, Mariah Carey and More Celebs With Crazy Backstage Requests

Octomom Nadya Suleman Children

When it comes to asking for what they want, celebrities have no qualms coming up with some pretty crazy tour riders — a list of requests or demands that performers need before their show. Stars like Selena Gomez , Justin Bieber , Kanye West   and more have reportedly asked for some expensive, rare and downright weird things in their dressing rooms before hitting the stage throughout their years on the road!

Worst celebrity divorces, brad pitt, kim kardashian

Self-proclaimed diva Mariah Carey , for one, reportedly asked for each room to “be draped” with the temperature set at “about 75 degrees” in her rider. The list also apparently includes Fiji water, bottles of Chardonnay, Coke and Diet Coke, protein shakes, Joe Malone candles and sugarless gum, among other requests.

“I have had diva moments, and then people can’t handle it,” the “Obsessed” songstress admitted during a 2017 interview with Paper magazine. “I guess it’s a little intense because I come from a true diva: my mother is an opera singer, and that’s a real diva, you know — Juilliard diva. And so other people that are like, ‘I’m a diva,’ it’s like, ‘Honey, you don’t know what a diva is, you didn’t grow up with my mom.’ And I mean it as a compliment, or I wouldn’t be the person I am without experiencing that.”

She continued, “And so when people hear me say, like, ‘Dahling, da, da, da’ and talk that way, it’s kind of like I’m channeling my mother. Not that she says ‘dahling’ all the time, but like that voice is … it’s like I inadvertently do it, and I don’t do it to be disrespectful, I just do it, and it just happens. It’s like, [in diva voice], ‘I don’t even know why.’”

Deal of the Day

But not every star has extreme requests. When it comes to her tour rider, Katy Perry  told  Bustle in 2015 that she considers it “boring.”

“People like to do this like, expose, like, ‘Katy Perry’s tour life, she’s such a diva,’ but, I’m sorry, if you lived on the road every single day and were out of different hotel rooms, don’t you want a comfort?” the “Teenage Dream” songstress said at the time. “Don’t you want some sliced turkey? I want some sliced turkey. And some baby wipes. They’re the poor man’s shower and [are] good for everything.”

Here Are The Ridiculous Things Celebrities Demand Backstage

Van Halen demanded all the brown M&M's be removed from the group's candy bowl. Turns out that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to celebrity backstage demands.

The Smoking Gun  contains a variety of leaked backstage documents uploaded to their site. We sifted through 20 of them to find out what A-listers want in their dressing rooms.

Some celebrity requests may confirm diva suspicions — a barber's chair and a Coke and Hennesey slushy machine for Kanye West. But we were surprised by other requests, such as an electric scooter, a smoothie station and one rap star who demanded Lunchables.

From rose-scented candle requests to organic honey bans, see what the biggest singers ask for backstage:

crazy celebrity tour demands

CELEBRITY riders are a curious thing. They give a fascinating insight into the diva demands and bizarre habits of our most famous faces. From dandruff shampoo to bendy straws and roses cut to precisely six inches to a framed photo of Princess Diana, there’s nothing these artists won’t request while on tour.

Here are just some of the weirdest and most fascinating celeb riders.

Nicki Minaj

Despite a bit of a diva rep, Nicki Minaj has some pretty simple requests: Spicy fried chicken wings, two space heaters, candles that smell like baked goods, three different flavours of chewing gum and a cheese platter.

Nicki Minaj’s has simple tastes.

The Smoking Gun nabbed a copy of Kanye West’s rider, and the man is serious about skincare: He requests two tubes of Carmex lip balm, one bar of L’Occitane soap, a bottle of Neutrogena dandruff shampoo, Neutrogena face scrub and Nivea Intensive Moisturizing Lotion. Additionally, if any driver under West’s employ wears any man-made fibres, Yeezus walks.

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey’s riders request Cristal and bendy straws from which to sip it, as well as two air purifiers, an assistant to dispose of her gum, another assistant to help her on staircases and couches in dark colours with “no busy patterns.” Carey also requests her room be at about 75 degrees Fahrenheit, and filled with two dozen white roses and vanilla aromatherapy candles.

Cher reportedly requests an entire room just for her wigs. That sounds extravagant, but given their size, it’s pretty practical.

Madge requests flowers cut specifically to six inches, among a raft of other things.

If InTouch is to be believed, Madonna requests a 200-person entourage that includes personal chefs, yoga instructors, 30 bodyguards and an on-site dry cleaner for her costumes, as well as vegan food (even though Madge isn’t vegan), 20 international phone lines and lilies and light pink or white roses cut to precisely 6 inches.

Jay Z requests that his transportation to and from venues be a black Maybach, but don’t expect him to drive it: He also asks for two bottles of $300 champagne and two $200 bottles of 2004 Sassicaia wine.

Iggy Pop and the Stooges are famous for their hilarious 28-page rider, which includes gems like a Bob Hope impersonator and “seven dwarfs, dressed up as those dwarfs out of that marvellous Walt Disney film about the woman who goes to sleep for a hundred years after biting a poisoned dwarf, or maybe pricking her finger on a rather sharp apple … or something. Taller people are acceptable, of course. It’s attitude, more than altitude, that’s important here. Don’t forget the pointy hats!”

Iggy Pop once wrote a rider to trump all riders.

Prince demands a doctor be present to inject him with B12 shots, as well as Yogi cocoa tea, jasmine and lavender scented candles, tables throughout the venue to collect gifts and flowers from fans, and that all food in his dressing room be wrapped in plastic wrap, to be unwrapped by the Purple One and the Purple One alone.

VH1 reports that LL Cool J asks for two long-stem roses and a bottle of baby oil in his dressing room. Here’s hoping he also asks for a dutiful cleaning staff.

Marilyn Manson

Marilyn Manson requests Haribo gummi bears and a “bald, toothless hooker” in his rider, which the entire world is hoping is a joke.

Ne-Yo requests a bottle of Ketel One vodka … for cleaning. You do you, ‘Yo.

Adele could demand the world if she wanted to, but instead she asks for Marlboro Lights, candy bars, European lager beer and sandwiches without tomatoes. Additionally, the songstress requires that anyone receiving free tickets to her shows donate a minimum of $20 to Sands, a UK-based charity — and there are no exceptions to that rule.

Adele wants ciggies, beer and no tomato.

Coldplay doesn’t have any absurd requests, but they do have an adorable one: postcards to send home to their kids from each city.

Britney Spears

Britney Spears used to request comfort foods like fried chicken, Cheetos and Red Bull, but the Femme Fatale has gotten healthier over the years and now bans junk food from her dressing room. One request that remains the same? A framed photo of Princess Diana.

Beyoncé is a diva (hey!): She requests a dressing room that’s the size of those normally used for an entire sports team, as well as heavily seasoned baked chicken.

John Mayer’s rider is simple enough and focuses more on his pearly whites than anything: He asks for kids’ cereals, like Count Chocula or Cap’n Crunch, as well as four soft-head toothbrushes, a bottle of Listerine, two small tubes of mint-flavoured toothpaste (preferably Tom’s of Maine) and two packages of Altoids. Must be to counteract all that sugary cereal.

RiRi always has the munchies.

Rihanna must have the munchies on tour: Her requests include Oreos, Haribo gummies, Babybel cheese and Red Bull. She also requests plush, non-leather couches big enough for her to stretch out on, as well as animal print pillows with no sequins and freshly cleaned carpeting so she can walk around barefoot.

Katy Perry has a 45-page rider that requests two cream-coloured egg chairs, one with a coordinating ottoman, as well as a refrigerator with a glass door, ornate French lamps and someone to wash and cut her fruit and vegetables … and no-one on staff is permitted to speak to her.

Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera requests a masseur for her feet on the set of “The Voice.” Her other requests are pretty simple: Flintstone vitamins, Nesquik, dried cranberries, votive candles, soy cheese and an organic food spread prepared without plastic or styrofoam (due to her environmental concerns).

Foo Fighters

The Foo Fighters have simple, amusing requests in their tour rider, including vegetable soups, “because meaty soups make the roadies fart.”

Who would have thought Eminem likes koi so much?

Eminem is a laid-back guy nowadays, which may explain why he requested a full koi pond for a recent performance in Ireland.

Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney bans any and all animal products from his dressing room and tour transportation (including leather seats in limos). Macca even refuses faux fur or fake animal prints in his presence.

Mary J. Blige

Mary J. Blige demands a brand new toilet seat for every room she uses in every city in which she performs.

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande famously demands to only be shot from her left side.

Jennifer Lopez

For a brief cameo in a charity video, Jennifer Lopez requested white flowers (preferably roses or lilies), white chaise lounges, white chair covers, white candles, white drapes, white sheets and Cuban food.

Justin Bieber likes assorted sizes of plain white T-shirts provided, not that he wears them all that often.

Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber requests only simple items: herbal teas to keep his pipes in order, as well as Ritz Bits (both peanut butter and cheese), Swedish fish and assorted sizes of plain white T-shirts and low-rise socks. Oh, and also that no-one speak to him directly.

M.I.A. often requests items that are, well, MIA: a pair of 20- to 25-year-old dancers in full burquas and cave-aged Gruyére cheese.

Lady Gaga’s rider is weird because, well, it’s Lady Gaga: In addition to a glam rock theme for her dressing room, Mother Monster requests all lavender bath products (both in scent and colour), as well as a mannequin with pink pubic hair.

Moby requests 10 pairs each of white cotton socks and white boxer shorts, allowing promoters to ensure he never has to buy his own underwear.

Dustin Diamond

At his stand-up comedy shows, former “Saved by the Bell” star Dustin Diamond demands that no-one in his presence call him “Screech.”

The father of a young Swiftie who fulfilled her dying wish to meet the pop superstar during her Eras tour has issued a heartbreaking update on his little girl’s health.

Spotify’s most streamed female artist Tones and I is touring Australia and New Zealand in 2024.

Madonna lost her temper again during her latest concert, declaring she wouldn’t continue with the show until she got some respect.

crazy celebrity tour demands

Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey may be bitter enemies right now, but they can definitely bond over one thing: their crazy tour riders.

Both divas, but certainly not them solely, have bizarre demands whenever they go on tour or are chosen to perform somewhere. Like what? Oh, like 20 white kittens and 100 doves, for example (Ms. Mariah), or buckets of spicy fried chicken -- no thighs, lot of wings (Ms. Minaj).

Okay now granted, many times the reason for these "huh?!" requests is to make sure the venue reads the actual rider. The idea is to test them: if what the artist asks for is so impossible or ridiculous the venue says they can't do, it proves they actually read through it.

But in light of the recently discovered tour rider of Lady Gaga , which includes one mannequin with puffy pink pubic hair, we decided to go back and check: what are the world's biggest stars' most outrageous demands?

Craziest Celebrity Riders Ever—You Won't Believe These Stars Diva Demands!!

Jan. 28 2015, Updated 6:39 p.m. ET

Celebrities are used to getting what they want… when they want it!

Make no mistake, if you're a lowly roadie and Mariah asks you to jump, you better say "How high Miss Carey?!!"  And that's no more evident than when it comes to stars' demands whilst they're on tour and away from the comforts of home.

From lashings of Cristal to fresh toilet seats at every location to "a bald headed toothless hooker" celebrities have an outlandish array of demands listed on their tour riders—and OKMagazine.com has a compilation of the craziest and best of all time—click through the gallery and realize… stars... they're NOT like us!

Mariah Carey Rider

Mariah Carey is known for being one of the ultimate divas—so it's no surprise that she has some pretty high demands! Highlights of her past tour rider requests include lashings of Cristal champagne (and bendy straws to drink it with!!); an attendant to dispose of her used chewing gum; two air purifiers; bottles of vitamin water to bathe her dogs in; all of the furniture must be black, dark grey, cream or dark pink, with "no busy patterns"; a lamp or clip light must be provided so that any "harsh lighting" may be turned off and... ermm...20 white kittens and 100 white doves!

Jennifer Lopez Rider

She may like to be known as "Jenny from the block" but Lopez is anything but down to earth when it comes to her tour demands! Amongst J-Lo's past requests—room temperature be kept at a strict 25.5°C; two humidifiers; two oscillating fans; room temperature Evian water; no tomato, apple or grape juices; her dressing room be painted white and everything inside be white too... including white flowers, white tables and tablecloths, white drapes, white candles, white sheets, white couches, white lilies, white roses... you get the idea!

room temperature Evian water.

Marilyn manson Rider

With his request for Haribo gummy bears Marilyn Manson appears surprisingly down to earth with his demands at first—but read on and he stays true to his shock rocker persona with his demand for "a bald-headed, toothless hooker."

Justin Timberlake Rider

Justin Timberlake runs a clean ship—right down to the door knobs! The Sexy Back singer reportedly demands that every two hours a staffer disinfects all door knobs he comes into contact with!

Barbra Streisand Rider

Barbra Streisand was flying the diva flag long before there was Mariah and J-Lo! Among her long lists of demands, the veteran singer/actress requests her toilet bowl be filled with rose petals; a police K-9 team to sweep arenas before performances; 10 'torchiere style' floor lamps; metal detectors at every door and that all security personnel follow a strict dress code—including "no T-shirts at all please."

Justin Bieber Rider

At just 19, Justin Bieber has yet to reach the dizzying heights of diva-dom as some of his other fellow musicians. That said, he still has strict demands that he likes accommodated—in addition to the run of the mill platters of fruit and various herbal teas, the Biebs also requires three packs of lo-rise socks and four packages of plain white T-shirts… all in varying sizes.

britney spears Rider

Britney goes against the current grain of healthy wholesome dressing room snacking—during her 2011 London Tour, she requested fish-and-chips and McDonald's cheeseburgers without the buns. Getting into the realms of very strange, according to British tabloid, The Daily Mirror, she also demanded a framed photo of Princess Diana. And, lest we forget she's a diva at heart, she told the O2 venue they would be fined $5,000 if the phone ever rang in her dressing room!

Lady Gaga Rider

Lady Gaga keeps it pretty real with her demand for posters of her rock idols, including Elton John, Billy Joel and David Bowie. Then there's the reasonable enough liquids request—56 bottles of water—28 cold and 28 room temperature. Added to that, bottles of “good” red and white wine, Jameson Irish Whiskey and black and silver satin fabric draped over all the walls. But, then she stays true to wacky form with her request for "a mannequin with puffy pink pubic hair."

David Hasselhoff Rider

David Hasselhoff is known to have a healthy sense of humor when it comes to himself—so, fingers crossed, he was just having a joke with everyone when he demanded a life-sized cut out of himself in his dressing room—Hey, don't hassle the Hoff!

Original Diva Cher requests a whole room to be dedicated purely to her wigs; a designated room for her masseuse Dr Stacey and black colored cups only.

Dustin Diamond Rider

It's not just rock gods that have demands! Despite being best known for sitcom Saved by the Bell, Dustin Diamond insists his character Screech is not made mention of AT ALL! Any venue that violates the stipulation and dares to try to promote Diamond's appearance by mentioning the show or Screech is fined $100 for every single offending ad, flyer or marquee!

paul Mccartney Rider

The Beatles were known for their tour riders back in the day—including requests such as, "four cots, mirrors, an ice cooler, portable TV set, clean towels and a platform for Ringo Starr and his drums." And Paul McCartney is keeping the demands going now he's solo. Amongst recent requests is one for four six-foot tall regular plants and19 six-foot tall leafy green plants in his dressing room.

Not surprising for a mega-health conscious musician, Moby is known to throw a fit if anyone lights up a ciggie around him…. but, he also demands a shockingly high number of pairs of underpants to be stocked in his dressing room!

Janet Jackson Rider

Janet Jackson does NOT like to walk! Jacko's sister insists that her limo be parked right outside her dressing room door so she doesn’t have to take even one step too many—she also demands a chaise lounge to recline on and 10 black roses.

Kanye West Rider

Kanye West demands "Imported and recut Versace towels on hand" at all times and that all drivers assigned to him throughout his tour wear clothes made from 100% cotton and "no man-made fibers."

Madonna Rider

The Queen of pop won't park her backside any old place! With that in mind, it's not surprising that Madonna demands a fresh, brand new toilet seat be fixed in the bathroom of every venue! Madge also requires 20 international phone lines; lilies and white and light-pink roses that have stems trimmed to precisely 6 inches.

katy Perry Rider

Katy Perry demands that her dressing room be draped in cream or soft pink and has to be outfitted with two cream-colored egg chairs, one of which should have a footstool. In addition, she requires a “perspex modern style” coffee table, a pair of floor lamps in “French ornate style" and a refrigerator with a glass door. Oh, and she's just as specific when it comes to the flowers! Katy demands “White and purple hydrangeas, pink & white roses and peonies" and “ABSOLUTELY NO CARNATIONS.”

Iggy Pop Rider

Iggy Pop's tour rider runs for 18 pages! Included: a USA Today article about morbidly obese people; seven short people dressed up as characters from Snow White and a Bob Hope impersonator on call 24-7. In addition, a pack of cards, "For me... in case one of the band's girlfriends fancies a quick game of strip poker while the band are on stage."

Gone are the days of sex, drugs and rap n roll for now clean living Eminem! Befitting of his sober "zen" life, the star requests "a koi fish pond."

LL Cool J is always ready for the ladies! Proving the point, the singer requests a small bottle of Johnson & Johnson baby oil for any unexpected massage needs and 24 long stem roses.

Prince is known for being "a little out there." So, it's no surprise his rider demands are less than conventional too! Kicking off with run-of-the mill coffee and tea with honey, lemon, sugar, cream and fresh ginger, he moves on to an on site physician to administer B-12 injections before finishing off with the demand that "all items in dressing room must be covered by clear plastic wrap until uncovered by main artist. This is absolutely necessary."

Plenty of celebrities require vast quantities of booze backstage, but Ne-Yo takes it to another level! The musician demands bottles of Ketel One vodka, for "cleaning purposes!" Guess Absolute just doesn't do the job...

If you're going to fix Robert DeNiro a cocktail, you better make sure you do absolutely correctly! A Tribecca Film festival memo documented EXACTLY how to prepare the actor's martini—According to Metro, step one reads, "The bartender should muddle a cucumber in the shaker and then mix with ice and gin. He or she should then SHAKE like crazy, an extra 30-45 seconds past the way they teach you in bartending school, so that little frothy chips form. No vermouth necessary."

Step two, "Don’t fill the glass all the way, only two-thirds at most so he doesn’t spill or it doesn’t get warm in his hand."

Like Madge, Mary J Blige likes to keep it fresh when it comes to her toilet seats! On her rider, the diva demanded 35 different toilet seats—one for each city on her tour. She also demanded the presidential suite at hotels and that the connecting room is not rented out. And, she wants to make it crystal clear that all staff are aware that Do Not Disturb means just that, by punctuating the order with a whopping 26 exclamation points!

The Foo Fighters may well have the best rider of all time! The rockers like to pepper their requests with humor, such as requesting bacon, which they call, "God's currency" and 24 large bath towels, which, "If they are new and unwashed, you will receive a wedgie." And, then, "If Solo Cups are not available please find a store that sells 16oz plastic drinking cups and then offer the shopkeeper some currency in exchange for said cups. Once again, you have the time of our booking to find this stuff. No snippy ass, tiny tim, two drops of dew in a cup sized cup, please. I WILL CALL OUT A CATERING JIHAD IF WE DO NOT HAVE THESE CUPS."

Van Halen is credited with starting the whole crazy rider fad after requesting all brown M&Ms be removed from candy bowls during their 1982 tour. And they've managed to keep the demands consistent throughout the years—including requests for herring in sour cream and one large tube of KY Jelly! Interesting fact, the band revealed in an interview that they started hiding crazy requests deep inside their riders as a way of quality control—meaning, if the M&Ms order was adhered to they were confident that all the important safety requests included were followed to the letter too!

Celebrity rider requests: The funniest and most extravagant, from Frank Sinatra to Kanye West

crazy celebrity tour demands

There might be plenty of essentials a touring musician or celebrity needs for life on the road, like a glam squad or green room with a spread of snacks.

But there are also those added extras. Tour riders, the backstage and dressing room requests that venues must fulfil for their A-List stars, have a habit of making their way into the press.

An old list of Katy Perry's tour requests included a ban on carnations and dressing rooms decorated only in cream or 'soft pink' (though this was in her Teenage Dream days). Other highlights include Mary J. Blige, who allegedly requested a private toilet with a new seat at every stop and Iggy Pop, who reportedly asked for an impersonator of the deceased comedian Bob Hope.

Liza Minnelli

crazy celebrity tour demands

For a Pine Brothers Softish Throat Drops commercial that was set to air during the Golden Globes, Minnelli allegedly requested a rider that included two cartons of cigarettes, a humidifier, black Egyptian cotton towels, no Styrofoam plates (only silver trays), and a $400 coffee service. But according to her agent, the only item Minnelli usually requests is red Gatorade.

Frank Sinatra

crazy celebrity tour demands

'Ol' Blue Eyes' charmed fans for decades with his live croons, and maintaining such a voice required a lot of tea, honey... and Jack Daniels? Sinatra's specific dressing room request for a 1991 show in Ohio listed 37 items including an upright piano (pretty essential) and 12 rolls of cherry lifesavers, along with a backstage bar stocked with bottles of Absolut, Jack Daniels, Chivas Regal scotch, Beefeater gin, white wine, red wine, and Courvoisier .

crazy celebrity tour demands

According to a leaked tour rider published by The Smoking Gun, Beyoncé's team asked for her dressing room to be kept at 78 degrees and include rose-scented candles. For a snack, she apparently requested chicken legs heavily seasoned with cayenne pepper.

crazy celebrity tour demands

The musician went viral in 2015 with rider request that was leaked by the University of Oklahoma's student newspaper ahead of his concert at the school. Along with a banana ban, which White later explained was for a tour member's allergy, the most notable requirement was a step-by-step guacamole recipe that included finely chopped yellow onions and de-veined Serrano peppers. White blasted the media for picking up the story and defended himself in a statement that claimed the recipe was an inside joke with his tour manager.

Justin Bieber

crazy celebrity tour demands

During his 2017 Purpose World Tour, a rider for Justin Bieber's Mumbai show was published on Twitter . Written in the format of a very detailed press release, the list included a convoy of 10 luxury sedans and two buses, a suite decorated with his favorite purple carnations, a shipped-in jacuzzi, ping pong table and massage table.

crazy celebrity tour demands

Leaked riders have indicated that West is very particular about his vases (they must all be cylindrical). During the rapper's Saint Pablo Tour, Kim Kardashian West also shared backstage photos of two slushie machines that mix frozen Grey Goose with lemonade and Hennessey with Coke.

Never one to scrimp on stage costumes, during a 2000 tour, Cher reportedly requested a separate backstage room to store all of her colorful wigs.

crazy celebrity tour demands

As a serial romancer , Mayer apparently likes to stay minty fresh. The musician reportedly once requested four soft head toothbrushes, Listerine mouthwash, mint-flavored Sensodyne or Tom's of Maine toothpaste, and packs of Altoid mints.

Taylor Swift

crazy celebrity tour demands

Apparently Swift used to like a sugar fix. In a leaked 2008 bus tour rider , the musician's list included an 11am Starbucks order of one Grande Iced Caramel Latte with two sweet-n-lows, one Grande ice Americano with two sweet-n-lows and soy milk, and one slice pumpkin loaf. She also stocked her bus with Twizzlers and Ben & Jerry's ice cream.

crazy celebrity tour demands

A 2012 rider from her MDNA tour appeared to show Madonna traveled with a 200-person entourage and replaced green room furniture with shipped-in custom pieces. Other dressing room requirements included were rare pink and white roses with stems cut to six inches, 20 international phone lines, and a chef preparing vegan food.

Will Ferrell

crazy celebrity tour demands

For his Semi-Pro press tour, Ferrell's joke list a sked for a lot of things on wheels, including a flight of six-feet-high stairs, one fake tree, and a canvas of a rainbow. Ferrell also threw in an electric three-wheel mobility scooter and a 'Janet Jackson style' headset microphone.

Grace Jones

crazy celebrity tour demands

Grace Jones was fully candid in her book I'll Never Write My Own Memoirs, which also gave us a look into her luxurious tour rider . Jones likes to have a lot of champagne on hand, six bottles of Louis Roederer Cristal to be exact, along with six bottles of French white and red wine. She also requests two dozen Fine de Claire or Colchester Oysters on ice, but requests that they come unopened because Jones does her own shucking.

crazy celebrity tour demands

One of the most famous riders has to be Van Halen's from the '80s, which helped cement the stereotype of the lavish rockstar life. The band had a contract which demanded the removal of all brown M&Ms from the group's candy bowl. If any were found in the backstage area, the promoter would apparently have to forfeit the entire show. Member David Lee Roth clarified the ban in 2012 , explaining that it was a test to make sure the promoter had read all the rider instructions.

crazy celebrity tour demands

According to reports of his rider in a 2014 UK tour , Prince requested for there to be no stairs at any of his hotels and wanted any obstructive rugs to be removed from his suites. He also banned paintings or photos of animals and faces.

Showbiz reporter Dean McCarthy told the show the star likes an iced Americano from Starbucks, delivered to her room at 11am.

McCarthy said when the Wildest Dreams singer first started in the industry, she only wanted snacks in her dressing room.

“(Taylor) used to be really humble and chill — she used to just have edamame (beans) and some water and some snacks,” McCarthy said.

But the Los Angeles-based reporter said as Swift’s star has risen, so have her demands while touring.

“Now, she’s gone to another level,” he said.

“There’s Red Bull (energy drink), macaroni and cheese, and by 11am, every single day of her tour, she has to have a Starbucks iced Americano, delivered to her room.

“When you’re Taylor Swift, you can.”

Aside from the caffeine-hit, Swift also has security concerns, and often requests a decoy car to avoid paparazzi.

“I also heard she likes her chauffeured cars to be very subtle, so she prefers silver SUVs, so no one knows it’s her,” he said.

“There’s sometimes a decoy car as well. So when you’re Taylor Swift, you get your very own Starbucks at 11am, and a decoy car.”

McCarthy spoke about the rider requests of other big showbiz stars, including the Jonas Brothers, whom he called “typical dudes”.

“They want some vodka, some chewing gum. But Joe Jonas has actually said he wants 12 puppies,” McCarthy said.

“When they go on tour, they will often find puppies in their dressing room. They’re megastars, so they can ask for whatever they want.”

McCarthy spoke of other diva and divo demands while on the show, including Justin Bieber, who requests a private jet to be on standby at all times when he’s on tour.

In the past, Madonna used to request that all toilets be replaced. Meanwhile, Christina Aguilera requires a police escort to and from her performances.

Justin Timberlake requires that all hallways and elevators are empty when he walks anywhere. While Beyonce and Jay Z request their Ace of Spades champagne.

“I actually saw Beyonce and Jay Z bring Ace of Spades champagne into the Golden Globes — it’s not BYO,” McCarthy said.

McCarthy said riders have become less obnoxious over the years, adding Axl Rose of Guns ’N’ Roses once asked for square melons.

“These celebrities like to push for whatever they can get and they stop when they finally get a no,” McCarthy said.

The 30 Most Outrageous Demands Made By Famous Actors

Big stars don't come cheap...and we're not just talking about paychecks. Famous actors often use their star power to make particularly outrageous demands, giving us a glimpse into the mindset of people who think showing up to work deserves a reward.

Johnny Depp – Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Johnny Depp was paid $20 million plus a huge percentage of the backend profits for his fifth outing as rascally Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales , which is as exhausting a sentence to write as it is to read. Despite receiving enough money to build his own Pirates of the Caribbean ride wherein every single pirate robot is replaced with an animatronic of Walter Matthau , Depp couldn’t be bothered to show up to set on time or even memorize his lines.

Depp’s habit of drinking thousands of dollars of wine a month resulted in frequent lateness, which caused expensive delays as the filmmakers had to scramble to reschedule shots on days where he showed up hours after his call time. It was so bad that a production assistant was assigned to stake out Depp’s rented house and watch for signs of activity, like trying to capture a photo of drunk Bigfoot. Depp also allegedly had to be fed his lines through an earpiece, which was probably easy enough to conceal as a piece of fanciful pirate jewelry.

Prince – New Girl

Prolific musical genius and possible interdimensional being Prince once guest-starred on an episode of New Girl in an especially delightful cameo as himself. Considering both Prince’s ethereal nature and the fact that it was the first (and ultimately only) time he ever appeared on a TV sitcom, you would expect him to bring a list of complicated demands shrouded by a series of riddles, sort of like instructions on how to care for a magical creature.

Prince only had one demand, but it was a doozy – he would only agree to guest star if a planned cameo by the Kardashians was scrapped. Evidently he had invited Kim Kardashian onstage during a recent performance, and her lack of enthusiasm offended him so greatly he vowed to destroy her network television cameo career.

Ben Affleck – Gone Girl

After being cast as the male lead in David Fincher ’s adaptation of Gone Girl , Ben  refused to wear a Yankees cap in one scene of the movie, shutting down production for several days until he and Fincher could agree to the compromise of a Mets cap. Affleck felt that, as a lifelong Red Sox fan, being seen in a major motion picture wearing the logo of the Red Sox’s most bitter rivals would be a betrayal. Indeed, the superstar of Paycheck and Reindeer Games endorsing the Yankees would be a blow from which the Red Sox might never recover.

Affleck also had some important casting recommendations for the part of Andie, the young student with whom his character Nick is having an affair. Affleck sagely told Fincher that Emily Ratajkowski , the famous model who appears mostly nude in the music video for Robin Thicke ’s Blurred Lines, would be perfect for the part of the woman who has to have a sex scene with Ben Affleck. Affleck had no other casting notes.

Jim Carrey – Man on the Moon

After being cast in Milos Forman ’s   Andy Kaufman biopic Man on the Moon , Jim Carrey was gunning hard for an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal of the legendary comedian. He was somewhat less concerned with making the film’s set a comfortable working environment for his crew and co-stars.

Carrey demanded everyone address him either as Andy (on days when he was filming scenes as Kaufman) or as Tony Clifton (on days when he was filming scenes as Kaufman’s alter-ego Tony Clifton), and would refuse to deliver messages between his three personas, much to Forman’s frustration.

He also claimed that he was channeling the spirit of the long-dead Kaufman through his body, and met with Kaufman’s family as Andy Kaufman, which is a thing that should probably be illegal.

George Clooney – Gravity

George Clooney appears in director Alfonso Curaón ’s award-winning film Gravity as the doomed astronaut Matt Kowalski, the commander of a space shuttle mission carrying Sandra Bullock into space to fix the Hubble telescope, despite the fact that Sandra Bullock is somehow more afraid of space than that Russian dog whose skeleton is presumably still orbiting the planet.

Kowalski dies pretty quickly, leaving Bullock’s character struggling to overcome the terrors of space on her own. Despite his short time on-screen, Clooney demanded that he be furnished with a full garden, basketball court, and beach hut built right next to his trailer. Evidently he felt since his character floats away into oblivion, he needed to be able to live onset until he himself ran out of breathable air.

Marlon Brando – The Island of Dr. Moreau

If you’ve seen the terrific documentary Lost Soul , then you’re already familiar with the near-Biblical catastrophe that was 1996’s The Island of Dr. Moreau . Marlon Brando was cast as the titular Dr. Moreau, a mad gene splicer, and was several weeks late to the shoot, which is the most professionally responsible thing he did on the set of this film.

Brando insisted that Dr. Moreau had a sun allergy, and demanded to be covered in white makeup for all of his exterior scenes with a bucket of ice on his head. This was mostly to ensure that he could rely on a stand-in for most shots and do very little acting himself. He also showed up with a little person, Nelson de la Rosa , and insisted that de la Rosa be present in every one of his scenes, because Brando apparently believed little people were pets/accessories.

Tom Cruise – Anything

One of the best things about Tom Cruise hitting middle age is that we all get to participate in his mid-life crisis as he needlessly endangers himself doing insane stunts in film after film. But in order to do all that Cruise Running™, Cruise Jumping™, and Cruise Clinging To The Outside of Dangerously High Vehicles and Structures™, he requires special garments.

Cruise insists upon having an arsenal of specially-made thongs, woven from a specific fabric, to maximize his comfort and flexibility while performing his stunts. Since he prefers to wear new ones each time, that can mean as many as 50 Cruise-supporting thongs per film, which is a small price to pay to ensure that the chafing never reaches a degree of friction to cause his groin to burst into flames in mid-Cruise Run™.

Lea Michele – Scream Queens

After her breakout role on Glee , that show your mom really liked 10 years ago, star Lea Michele quickly allowed 100% of the show’s success to go directly to her head, despite the fact that the show is an ensemble piece about high schoolers singing fun arrangements of popular songs and she is the least interesting character.

For her role as Hester on Scream Queens , Michele only agreed to actually scream two times, and insisted that a recording would have to be used for any other take that required her to scream in order to protect her singing voice. She’s totally moving enough albums to justify this.

Steve McQueen – The Towering Inferno

The Towering Inferno was a big budget disaster movie made during the height of the genre’s popularity back in 1974. Not content with merely being the film’s lead, Steve McQueen demanded to have the same number of lines as his co-star Paul Newman , so extra dialogue had to be written for him. He didn’t ask for more lines than Newman, because that would’ve been gauche.

McQueen also demanded that the brim of his fireman’s helmet be shorter so that it wouldn’t hide his face, which consequently meant that every other fireman’s helmet in the film had to be changed as well, or else McQueen’s character would look like a lunatic who just showed up with a department store firefighter costume. He also argued about where his name should appear on the film’s poster, as he wanted to be billed before Paul Newman, so the compromise was made to put McQueen’s name first, but slightly lower than Newman’s.

Will Smith – Men in Black III

For the epic third installment of the Men in Black series, star Will Smith wanted to make sure that he was afforded a level of on-set luxury that would allow him to reach deep within his soul and deliver the high-quality performance audiences had come to expect from the film series about a rapping extraterrestrial police force.

Smith demanded a double-decker $2 million trailer, even though filming was only a few blocks away from his apartment. The trailer (which, again, was just for him) contained multiple bedrooms, bathrooms, and a private movie theater, presumably so he could gather the cast and crew together to watch Will Smith movies.

Marlon Brando – Superman

Legendary actor Marlon Brando became arguably even more legendary later in his career as the patron saint of refusing to do anything like a normal human being. He was particularly notorious for never bothering to memorize his lines, which you may recognize as the primary job actors are expected to perform.

While filming his brief role in Richard Donner ’s Superman as the Man of Steel’s father Jor-El, Brando had his lines taped to the back of the infant actor portraying baby Superman. He also refused to remove his expensive Rolex, which is a brand of timepiece generally not found on the planet Krypton. He was paid $3.7 million for this.

Daniel Day-Lewis – Lincoln

Daniel Day-Lewis ’s unquenchable need to completely occupy the body and soul of every character he portrays suggests that he bears some supernatural curse that doesn’t allow him to simply make-believe like his acting peers. For his role in Steven Spielberg ’s Lincoln , Day-Lewis stopped just short of traveling back in time and abducting the American president to run lines with him.

Daniel-Day Lewis had everyone refer to him as “Mr. President” during filming, and would speak to everyone as if he were actually Abraham Lincoln, including referring to his costar Sally Field as “Mary Todd.” He also refused to speak to any cast or crew member who spoke with a British accent to preserve the American accent he had perfectly cultivated (and also because refusing to speak to British people is just a thing Americans did in the 1860s).

Kirk Cameron – Growing Pains

Today, you might recognize Kirk Cameron as the guy who makes those insane films about rescuing Christmas from whomever he believes is attacking it (the word “might’ is doing some pretty heavy lifting here). But back in the 1980s, America knew him as Mike, the eldest Seaver child on the hit sitcom Growing Pains .

Despite the fact that his character was an unabashed serial dater, Cameron fought with the show’s producers over content he thought was “inappropriate.” He even got his costar Julie McCullough fired after playing  his girlfriend for two seasons when he learned she had posed for Playboy, because Cameron is a bizarre alien who is terrified of sex.

Nicolas Cage – Vampire’s Kiss

Vampire’s Kiss is a movie about Nicolas Cage getting bit on the neck by a woman and becoming convinced that he is turning into a vampire. It is one of the greatest gifts this planet has ever received and we should all feel immeasurable shame that it isn’t the centerpiece of a major world religion.

Nicolas Cage wanted the filmmakers to use a real bat for the pivotal scene in which a bat flies into his character's apartment and sparks his delusion, but after heated deliberation with the director he eventually agreed that it would be better to use a puppet. It isn’t clear whether Cage wanted to be bitten by a real bat, but since I do not have that information, it is my responsibility to assume that yes, he did.

Shia LaBeouf – Fury

For his role as Boyd “Bible” Swan in director David Ayer ’s film Fury , Shia LaBeouf wanted to go as method as possible to really get inside the mind of a World War II tank gunner. Reasoning that his character wouldn’t have access to clean water while stuck in the tank in the middle of the European countryside, LaBeouf refused to bathe. His co-stars, locked in the steamy iron box with him, no doubt appreciated his commitment to historical accuracy.

Not content to merely be stinky, LaBeouf set about turning himself into a human grotesquerie. He had a tooth pulled, and repeatedly cut open his own face rather than use special effects makeup, which he didn’t feel was realistic enough. In Shia’s defense, it is impossible to argue with that.

Wesley Snipes – Blade: Trinity

Wesley Snipes was unhappy with the choice of director David S. Goyer to helm Blade: Trinity , the third installment of the film series about the Marvel Comics character who, much like Snipes himself, nobody had been paying attention to until the first Blade movie came out. So Snipes decided to take his frustration out on the entire production by being as difficult as possible.

Snipes flat-out refused to film several scenes, using his stand-in to do pretty much anything that wasn’t a close-up. He also famously refused to open his eyes for a particular shot, forcing the director to use digital effects to paint his eyes open. He also refused to speak to most of the crew, relaying messages via his personal assistant and Post-It notes. Basically, he behaved like an actual vampire, hiding in his trailer and keeping his eyes shut in fear of the sun.

Daniel Day-Lewis – My Left Foot

Daniel-Day Lewis is an actor equally respected and feared for his insistence on doing wildly unnecessary things to prepare for his film roles, including living by himself in a log cabin for a month for The Last of the Mohicans and engaging in pretend racism for Gangs of New York , which is pretty much the same thing as actual racism.

For his role in the movie My Left Foot as Christy Brown, a man stricken with cerebral palsy unable to move any part of his body except for his titular left foot, Lewis refused to get out of his wheelchair at any point during filming. He had the crew push him everywhere and feed him his meals while on set, a courageous level of commitment doubtless appreciated by everyone on set with family members who were actually disabled.

Eric Stoltz – Back to the Future

Before Michael J. Fox was cast in Back to the Future , the role of Marty McFly was ever-so-briefly played by Eric Stoltz , an actor most famous for being mistaken as Craig Kilborn in the trailer for the 1997 Jennifer Lopez film Anaconda .

During his short tenure as Marty, Eric Stoltz refused to break character. He would only answer to “Marty,” and was ruthlessly aggressive towards Tom Wilson , who plays Biff. The two almost got into a fight after repeated takes of a scene in which Marty shoves Biff, because Stoltz kept pushing Wilson entirely too hard (you know, like a guy who is trying to start a fight). Stoltz was fired shortly thereafter and replaced with Fox.

Jamie Foxx – Miami Vice

Director Michael Mann decided to adapt his hit TV show Miami Vice into a movie in 2006, because Phil Collins and linen suits are timeless. For his big budget reboot, he cast Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx to play Detectives Crockett and Tubbs.

Foxx was fresh off of his Academy Award win for Ray , and was apparently eager to start flexing his A-list star demands. By far the strangest of them all was that Foxx flat-out refused to film any scenes on or near boats or planes. This created some problems for Mann, because as the title suggests, Miami Vice takes place in Miami, a city in which you are never more than 100 feet away from a boat or a plane, and follows two vice detectives as they go on drug-busting adventures that take place almost exclusively on boats and planes.

Marlon Brando – The Score

When Marlon Brando was cast in 2001’s The Score alongside Robert DeNiro , audiences were excited to see the legendary star finally appear onscreen with his Godfather: Part Two costar. The only person who wasn’t excited was director Frank Oz , because by this point in his career, Brando had long perfected the fine art of “Brando-ing.”

The notoriously mercurial Brando hated Oz as hard as he possibly could, and refused to do anything the director asked, derisively referring to him as “Miss Piggy” for the entire shoot. He wouldn’t even smile during a critical final scene, forcing Oz to stretch Brando’s lips later with digital effects.

Paris Hilton – The Other Guys

You probably don’t remember Paris Hilton in the buddy comedy The Other Guys , starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as a pair of bumbling odd-couple detectives. That’s because her list of demands was so absurd, director Adam McKay decided it would be better for both his film and the world in general if he just left Hilton out of it.

Even though she was only scheduled to be on set for a single day to film a brief cameo, Hilton turned over a list of requirements that included live lobsters and a bottle of Grey Goose vodka be kept at the ready for her at all times. Normally demands like these require a good-faith release of hostages.

Lena Headey and Jerome Flynn – Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is all about cutthroat characters making tenuous alliances with other cutthroat characters who can barely stop hating each other long enough to agree that an army of ice zombies is a bad thing, so it makes sense that some of the show’s politics bleed over into the real-life relationships between the actors.

Lena Headey , who plays Queen Cersei, and Jerome Flynn , who plays Bronn, refuse to speak to each other, film any scenes together, or even be on set at the same time, because they used to date years ago and apparently it didn’t end well. Maybe Flynn continually subjected Headey to his old boy band, which is a thing he was absolutely in.

Sarah Jessica Parker – Divorce

After starring as the lead in the hit show and cultural phenomenon Sex and the City , Sarah Jessica Parker can ask HBO for pretty much anything she wants. In fact, I’m surprised she hasn’t negotiated Matthew Broderick into the background of a Game of Thrones battle scene yet.

For her role as Frances Dufresne on the HBO series Divorce , Parker drew up a particularly rigid contract that gives her the exclusive power to start and stop filming (basically, she’s the only person who gets to call “action” or “cut”). She also bizarrely stipulates that she cannot be filmed or photographed while she is eating. This can only mean that she vomits her entire stomach out onto her food like a fly and wants to preserve this secret.

Julia Roberts – Anything

Julia Roberts has been one of the most famous movie stars in the entire world since the prequel Bush administration, so nobody should be surprised to hear that she can ask for pretty much anything she wants while filming a movie, TV show, or Italian coffee commercial in which she does not speak a single word.

Roberts allegedly requires 4 gallons of Evian water per day while filming any movie, anywhere in the world. There is a six figure penalty if she ever goes Evian-less, which you may have noticed is slightly more than what 4 gallons of Evian costs.

Katherine Heigl – Grey’s Anatomy

Katherine Heigl has had a reputation for being difficult to work with ever since her breakout role as Izzie on Grey’s Anatomy . Whether or not that label is fair is debatable, but nobody can deny the weighty Shaq-sized dunk she landed in the face of the show’s producers back in 2009 after being denied more creative control over her character.

Heigl was nominated for an Emmy that year for her role on the show, but famously withdrew her name from consideration and refused to participate in the ceremony, claiming that she didn’t feel the material was worthy of an award. Basically, she called the show hot wet garbage, and wanted to keep any of it from splashing on the Emmys.

Jennifer Lawrence – Mother!

J ennifer Lawrence has been nominated for as many Academy Awards as X-Men films she has appeared in, though none of those nominations were in recognition for her X-Men work. As such, she commands a certain amount of power on set, which she used to make an unusual request of director Darren Aronofsky while filming Mother!

While filming the particularly intense film, Lawrence demanded a “Kardashian tent” where she could go and watch Keeping Up With The Kardashians to calm down. The tent was stocked with gumballs and photos of the Kardashians, so it meets the definition of “cursed object” and must’ve looked something like if the Branch Davidians had a make-your-own music video booth at a state fair.

Alec Baldwin – 30 Rock

America’s favorite abusive parent Alec Baldwin is notorious for his explosive temper, which among other things has resulted in him quitting Twitter forever more than once. He was able to successfully parlay this reputation into playing the character of prickly TV executive Jack Donaghy on 30 Rock .

Baldwin apparently saved all of his charm for the cameras, because various cast and crew have said that he was perpetually in a terrible mood and shouted constantly. He demanded a humidifier be on the set of 30 Rock at all times to protect his voice, despite the fact that he is not a singer. Apparently ,he wanted to ensure he could preserve only the richest tones while leaving shrieking voicemail messages for his daughter, who for some reason doesn’t want to take his calls.

Eddie Murphy – Anything

World-famous donkey and occasional comedian Eddie Murphy has been commanding the A-list treatment for longer than many current A-list stars have been alive, so it honestly wouldn’t surprise me to hear that he has a clause in his contract requiring a production assistant to shout motivational poetry at him through the fat end of a telescope. That said, his actual demands are somehow more alarming.

Eddie Murphy allegedly uses every item in his trailer only once, including underwear, socks, toothpaste, etc. He then throws them away and must be brought brand new sets of everything the next day, the clothes with the tags still on them. I earnestly hope this behavior was on full display during the filming of The Adventures of Pluto Nash , because it would’ve been the least wasteful decision made on the set of that movie.

Queen Latifah – Anything After 1999

Rapper-turned-actress Queen Latifah has turned in memorable performances in a number of films over the years, including Chicago , The Secret Life of Bees , and at least three Ice Age sequels. Her big league demand is by no means the most unreasonable one on this list, but it is 100% my favorite.

Queen Latifah has a clause in her contract that forbids her characters from being killed off. She added this after Sean Beaning her way through several films in the 90s, including Set It Off , The Bone Collector , and Sphere , in which she is killed by psychically manifested jellyfish.

Gary Busey – Quigley

Gary Busey is a sentient set of human teeth disguised as a man that has appeared in several memorable films including Lethal Weapon , Point Break , and Predator 2 . Busey was critically injured and very nearly died after a terrible motorcycle accident in the 80s, which is information that will become very important in a moment.

On the set of Quigley , a film about a man who dies and is reincarnated as a dog, Busey insisted the set the production had built for heaven needed to be torn down because wasn’t an authentic depiction of the real heaven, which he claimed to have seen firsthand after his accident. Busey specifically noted that the set had mirrors, which he regarded as a particularly egregious mistake that, to the best of my knowledge, he never elaborated upon.
