You will then be taken to a page that displays how many “Redeemable Points” you currently have available to transfer and be shown a drop-down menu with various dollar/denomination amounts and the equivalent number of points you will need to spend in order to transfer the required funds onto your Mastercard. Choose your amount and click “Submit”. You will then see a confirmation page acknowledging your redemption and at any stage, you can check your “Redemptions Summary” under your “Account” tab on the Celebrity Rewards website to view all of the redemptions you have made.

How do I use my Celebrity Rewards Mastercard?

You can use your Celebrity Rewards Mastercard to make payments in exactly the same way you would with any other bank card, whether it’s payments in a store, online or taking money out of the ATM. Just make sure you have the appropriate funds on your Celebrity Rewards Mastercard for the payments you are making. We encourage you to log in to your Mastercard Account regularly to view a history of your card transactions.

Can I combine or share my points with another colleague?

Do my points expire.

Yes, once your points become “Redeemable” they will have a 2 year validity period within which you can spend them, providing you continue to be active in the program, i.e. you are doing point earning activity such as making and claiming bookings. If you have been inactive for 1 year and your “Pending” or “Redeemable Points” balances haven’t changed, your “Redeemable Points” will automatically expire and your Celebrity Rewards Account will be closed.

How do I track my progress?

The Role of a Travel Agent in Cruise Planning

Benefits of using a travel agent for cruises.

When planning a cruise, utilizing a travel agent can offer numerous advantages. Travel agents specializing in cruises have extensive knowledge of different cruise lines, including Celebrity Cruises, and can help you navigate the complexities of booking the perfect trip. They understand the intricacies of cruise packages, promotions, and itineraries, ensuring you get the best value for your money.

Travel agents can provide personalized recommendations based on your preferences, whether you’re seeking a romantic getaway, a family adventure, or a solo exploration. Their expertise allows them to match you with the most suitable cruise line and itinerary tailored to your specific needs and desires. By leveraging their insider information, you can access exclusive deals, onboard perks, and upgrades that may not be readily available to the general public.

In the event of unexpected changes or issues during your cruise, having a dedicated travel agent can be invaluable. They act as your advocate, assisting with rebooking flights, rearranging travel plans, or addressing any concerns that may arise. Their support adds an extra layer of reassurance and convenience, enabling you to relax and enjoy your vacation without unnecessary stress.

How a Travel Agent Can Enhance Your Cruise Experience

A travel agent can elevate your cruise experience by handling all the logistics and details with precision. From selecting the ideal cabin location to arranging special celebrations or excursions, they take care of the finer details so you can focus on creating lasting memories onboard. With their industry connections and insights, travel agents can secure coveted dining reservations, spa appointments, and entertainment options that align with your tastes and preferences.

Moreover, travel agents offer valuable guidance on cruise essentials such as packing tips, documentation requirements, and onboard etiquette. They share insider knowledge on must-see attractions at various ports of call, ensuring you make the most of your time ashore. Their expertise can enhance your overall journey, transforming it into a seamless and unforgettable experience from start to finish.

By entrusting your cruise planning to a knowledgeable travel agent, you unlock a world of opportunities for a seamless, stress-free, and enjoyable Celebrity Cruise tailored to your individual preferences. Embrace the expertise and support of a travel agent to embark on a star-studded voyage filled with luxury, sophistication, and personalized experiences.

Criteria for Choosing the Best Travel Agent

When selecting a travel agent for your Celebrity Cruise experience, certain criteria are crucial to ensure a smooth and tailored journey that meets your expectations. Here are key factors to consider:

Expertise in Celebrity Cruises

Look for a travel agent who specializes in Celebrity Cruises. An agent’s deep knowledge of the cruise line allows them to offer valuable insights into the various ships, destinations, and onboard amenities. They can guide you to the best options that align with your preferences, ensuring a fulfilling and enjoyable cruise experience. A specialist in Celebrity Cruises knows the intricacies of each offering, enhancing your voyage with curated recommendations tailored to your needs.

Customer Service and Support

A top-notch travel agent not only helps you book your cruise but also provides excellent customer service and support throughout your journey. They are your trusted point of contact for any queries, changes, or unexpected situations that may arise. A reliable agent ensures a hassle-free experience by handling logistics, resolving issues efficiently, and keeping you informed at every step. Opt for an agent known for their exceptional customer service to ensure a stress-free and enjoyable Celebrity Cruise.

Personalized Attention to Detail

Personalization is key to a memorable Celebrity Cruise experience. Choose a travel agent who pays attention to the details that matter to you. Whether it’s special dietary requirements, preferred activities onboard, or specific cabin preferences, a skilled agent tailors your cruise to meet your individual desires. By understanding your preferences, they can suggest personalized enhancements to elevate your journey, creating unforgettable moments that cater to your unique tastes.

Selecting the right travel agent with expertise in Celebrity Cruises, exceptional customer service, and a focus on personalized attention to detail can significantly enhance your cruise experience. By partnering with a knowledgeable agent who understands your preferences, you’ll embark on a luxurious and sophisticated voyage that exceeds your expectations at every turn.

Top Travel Agents for Celebrity Cruises

When seeking the best travel agent for your Celebrity Cruise experience, consider award-winning travel agents with a proven track record in handling luxury cruises. These agents have received recognition for their exceptional service and expertise in curating unforgettable cruise journeys. Partnering with such seasoned professionals ensures a seamless booking process and personalized attention to enhance your Celebrity Cruise adventure further.

For insights into the quality of service provided by different travel agents, reviewing customer reviews and testimonials is paramount. Look for agents with glowing reviews from past clients who have embarked on Celebrity Cruises. Positive feedback highlighting excellent communication, attention to detail, and a smooth overall booking process can give you confidence in selecting the right agent for your voyage. Customer testimonials serve as valuable indicators of the agent’s dedication to providing a top-notch cruising experience tailored to your preferences.

Things to Consider Before Booking

Destination insights and excursions.

When planning a Celebrity Cruise, one of the crucial aspects to consider is the destination insights and excursions offered as part of your voyage. Before booking your cruise through a travel agent, ensure you have a clear understanding of the destinations you’ll visit and the excursions available at each port of call. It’s important to choose a travel agent who can provide detailed information on the various destinations, recommend exciting excursions, and help tailor your cruise experience to match your preferences. You’ll want to make sure that the travel agent you select is well-versed in the Celebrity Cruises itinerary, highlighting key attractions, local culture, and unique experiences at each stop.

For example, imagine embarking on a Celebrity Cruise to the Caribbean. A top travel agent specializing in luxury cruises should offer insights into the best beaches to visit, local cuisine to try, and adventurous activities to partake in at each port. They should be able to guide you on selecting the most suitable excursions that align with your interests, whether it’s snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, exploring historical sites, or enjoying a relaxing beach day.

Understanding Cruise Packages and Deals

Another essential factor to consider before booking your Celebrity Cruise through a travel agent is understanding the cruise packages and deals available. A reputable travel agent should be able to provide you with comprehensive information on the different packages offered by Celebrity Cruises, including accommodation types, dining options, onboard activities, and additional amenities. They should assist you in choosing the package that best suits your preferences, ensuring you get the most out of your cruise experience.

For instance, suppose you’re interested in a luxury experience on a Celebrity Cruise. A knowledgeable travel agent specializing in Celebrity Cruises should guide you on selecting a premium package that includes exclusive dining options, spa treatments, and personalized services to enhance your journey. They should also keep you informed about any special deals, promotions, or discounts that can help you save on your cruise reservation while enjoying additional perks.

By considering destination insights, excursions, cruise packages, and deals before booking your Celebrity Cruise through a travel agent, you can ensure a seamless and unforgettable experience tailored to your preferences and expectations. Choose a travel agent with expertise in luxury cruises, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering a personalized booking process for a truly memorable voyage.

Via the program, advisors earn points redeemable for cash amounts (2,500 points equals $25) added to a reloadable gift card for every qualifying Celebrity booking they make. Travel Agent Issue - Need advice

We have used a specific ravel Agent several times in the past for reservations.

They are known for good bonuses and are well known for Holiday promotions.

While cruising over the Thanksgiving we booked 2 separate cruises for 2024 while we were onboard our first celebrity cruise.

We requested the same AI package from the TA and ended up having to take several calls to confirm information at the TA's request vs doing the booking via email.

It turned out the Agent messed up on one of the reservations and chose a no perks rate vs the AI which we requested.

The invoice was confusing as it showed 3 separate discount lines on the invoices all with the only description being NRD.

We took several calls confirming the reservations and perks both before and after the booking.  He even called us to ask if the lwoer price was OK before he put it through.

This issue was the agent was swamped with reservations and he used the wrong booking code.

We waited a few weeks for the packages to show on Celebrity as there is normally a delay and it turns out they didn't exist. .  We are now outside the non cancelable window  and are stuck with an ~$700 over the original quote and a $1000 difference over where we currently stand. We wouldn't have booked this cruise  with the current pricing.

The real kicker is the TA even choose a higher price NRD for the same cabin then what was being offered at that time.

We booked using $1000 in Celebrity gift cards and the balance with our CC.

Any suggestions to avoid the 25% cancelation fee?   Transferring to a different cruise due to pricing would probably be our best bet at this point. as the TA says there is nothing He can do and it is all our fault.

Do I understand correctly, you booked the cruises on board and paid the deposit while on the ship.  Then you transferred the cruises to a TA.  Why did the TA not just take the bookings as they were  which would involve little to no work on their part.

We regularly book on board for the reduced deposit and then transfer the reservation to a TA.  The only time they have suggested changing the booking when it was transferred was if they had a lower group rate, but the would require a higher deposit.

Do you have a copy of your original booking confirmation?  Maybe the TA can use that to help him get his error corrected by Celebrity.

We did not use Celebrity to book and transfer.   We used the TA to book while onboard.  We had the FCC  and just had the TA apply it.

That's unfortunate.  You can explore transferring to a different sailing but that would likely involve some cancellation or change fees.

wrk2cruise

Since you are after final payment moving to another sailing is not an option.   I'm afraid if you have no proof of the TA mess up you are out of luck.  From what you are saying they are claiming it's your fault.  I would at least escalate your side of the story up their management chain to see if they value your continued business.

Any TA should provide an invoice including what perks you get at the time of booking.  You really need to pay close attention to these.  If not detailed them make them provide the details.  All water over the bridge now.

It appears that there was quite a bit of miscommunication between you and your TA.  I see you have been on CC since 2005 and assume you know the “routine “ re Transferring to your TA. A few questions:

1-Did the Celebrity TA on board ask you the name of your TA and that they would transfer the booking in its entirety while you were sitting there?

(That’s what they have always done with us).

2- If so,Why didn’t you have them send it?

3-How and when did you transfer the booking to your TA? 4-Were you advised that you only have 30 days from date of booking to transfer to the TA of your choice? Let’s hope your TA will “ make good “ as it appears their fiduciary responsibility to you ( acting in your best interest) was not done.

The way I'm reading the post and follow up, the OP didn't book through Celebrity and transfer it to their TA. It reads as though the fact the OP booked while on board is irrelevant and just where the OP was located when they arranged future cruise bookings with their own TA via phone and email.  If I am misunderstanding, perhaps OP can clarify.

Post 3 OP says they did not book with Celebrity.  They happened to be on a ship and contacted the TA to book.

Personally I would contact the owner of the Travel Agency and ask for the reservation to be corrected to what you had thought you were booking.   If a high volume agency they should have contacts to help fix the problem.

If they don't - time to find a new agent.

Rina155

If it is a large agency most likely the calls are recorded. Might not hurt to ask about that when you escalate.

So far no luck reaching anyone else at agency and TA is absolutely 0 help.

Reaching out to Celebrity now but expecting no help

I would eat the cancel fee an start fresh with a new TA.

Another option if you want to stick with current agent and get them to address your issue.    Start leaving negative feedback on places like Yelp, Twitter Feed, Facebook.   In addition you can file a negative report with Better Business Bureau and ASTA (American Sociaty of Travel Agencies.    You may also find that filing a complaint with the State Attorney General could be effective.

Lesson learned and time to move on.   ☹️

I went through the gauntlet today on the phone and ended up with a decent response

After hearing the story and asking  for the phone transcripts of my calls they were a little more open to try and help. It probably helped also I had 2 open cruises with them and they could see I have been on 2 other cruises in last few months to go with my past history with them.

They  called Celebrity on my behalf and we ended up forfeiting $200 in OBC and having to pay $246 more to get the perks to book a current less than 90 day out special.

This ended up being about $150 more expensive then initially quoted but $650 less than useless TA who wouldn’t even attempt to remedy his mistake.  We also ended up in aqua balcony vs concierge balcony in thiis cabin move.

Thanks  for the couple of tips as it definitely seemed to help today.

Glad you got a decent resolution on this.  Unfortunately this happens at times, very rare overall but just need to keep on the TA to they make it right.

Going from CC to AQ and getting the perks for only $150 extra is a win on your part. Congrats!

It was our first time with FCC and we thought it was easier not to transfer and book direct with TA with the certificate.

we were obviously wrong and thst is a very good tip

If I might add a few "tips ":

--While onboard make reservation(s) with the Future Cruise Dept.

They will explain the benefits re additional OBC and reduced deposit, plus, transfer your booking to the TA of your choice immediately.

--Purchase a Future Cruise Certificate ($100 per person ).

You have 60 days to book ( not take ) a cruise or you can get your money back.

It gives you additional OBC depending on the length of the cruise and the accommodations you book.

We've done it many times-- never a problem.

glad you are satisfied but maybe get a new TA for any future cruises!

We cruised for the first time with Celebrity in November and purchased (3) of the Future Cruise Vouchers for $600.  When we came home we booked...tried to book...the first 2 cruises we selected.  I couldn't believe the trouble that we had explaining to the big box rep what we were trying to redeem.  We had so much trouble that we won't be purchasing them again.  I would book while on a cruise but never again buy a FCC.

We purchased the FCC's a few times and booked with Big Box without any difficulty.

I suppose it depends on the Agent that takes the call.

Otherwise, it might be easier to call Celebrity, make the booking with them , and have them transfer your booking to Big Box ( extra benefits ).

Why lose out on the extra OBC and the minimum deposit because of a poorly trained Agent ?

Bonne Chance ( Good Luck )

Celebrity ascent: the best dining, amenities and more on celebrity cruises' newest ship.

Top-notch eateries, adults-only areas and entertainment options stand out.

Celebrity Ascent Review

The Solarium on the Celebrity Ascent.

Megan duBois

Key Takeaways

  • There are 32 different dining and drinking venues on board, from Le Voyage by celebrity chef Daniel Boulud to the line's iconic Martini Bar.
  • The onboard entertainment is incredible. The "Awaken" show combines popular music with acrobatics and lasers, while Ascent After Dark: Shine the Night invites cruisers to don metallic or sequin outfits for a deck party under the stars.
  • The Solarium adults-only pool area is a relaxing spot with comfortable lounge chairs, a pool and hot tubs; head to Eden for delightful cocktails and optimal sunset views.

You can think of Celebrity Cruises as the more adult cousin of Royal Caribbean International – which makes sense, considering both cruise lines are owned by Royal Caribbean Group. With all of the recent buzz around both brands, I was excited to sail on Celebrity Cruises' newest ship, Celebrity Ascent, in its debut month. I embarked out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in December 2023.

The 17-deck, 141,420-ton ship has 1,646 staterooms and can carry 3,260 guests at double occupancy. At 1,073 feet long and 128 feet wide, the ship has plenty of space for upscale amenities, edgy entertainment and incredible dining venues. The Edge Series ship also has more than 1,400 crew members who hail from 60 different countries around the world.

As an avid cruiser who has taken more than 50 ocean and river voyages on almost a dozen cruise lines, I found Celebrity Ascent lived up to the hype. The ship itself is stunning, and each area has a distinct vibe. I loved the ample amount of food and drink opportunities – there are 32 different venues – and the standout onboard entertainment was like nothing I had seen before on a cruise ship.

Celebrity Ascent itineraries

Thermal suite heated loungers on the Celebrity Ascent.

Celebrity Ascent sails around the Mediterranean and the Caribbean over the next few years. Summer 2024 brings Ascent to Mediterranean ports of call in Greece, Turkey, Italy, France, Spain and Portugal. The Mediterranean season ends in October 2024, with a 13-night transatlantic sailing departing from Barcelona, Spain.

Late fall and winter sailings depart from Fort Lauderdale. The Caribbean season runs between November 2024 and April 2025. It includes seven- to nine-night voyages calling on ports like Aruba , Bonaire and Curacao ; Bimini, Bahamas ; Labadee, Haiti; Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands ; Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic ; and St. Maarten and St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

In late April 2025, it's back to the Mediterranean for the 2025 season between May and October. Ascent then returns to the Caribbean for sailings in late 2025; destinations include southern Caribbean locales, plus the Panama Canal and Royal Caribbean's private island in the Bahamas, Perfect Day at CocoCay. Similar Caribbean sailings are also on sale for early 2026.

Who should sail on Celebrity Ascent?

Sunset Bar on the Celebrity Ascent.

Celebrity Ascent, like its Edge Series sister ships, caters to adults traveling together. The overall vibe of the ship is upscale and modern, with plenty of places to grab a drink, enjoy a meal and watch a show. Couples can enjoy an elevated date night in Le Grand Bistro, while the aptly named Sunset Bar – which overlooks the rear of the ship – is the spot to be with a cocktail in hand as the sun sets into the horizon. This bar was easily my favorite spot on board; I spent most afternoons here enjoying a cocktail.

The deck parties, of which Ascent After Dark: Shine the Night is the premier event, are a fun time – but they aren't so loud that guests can hear the bass thumping in the staterooms below. Shows at The Theatre are fully immersive, with incredible technology and great music that had me dancing in my seat.

If you are traveling with children, know that there aren't many places on board for kids to just hang out and be kids. The Camp at Sea kids club is crammed into a small area on Deck 3, away from the main Grand Plaza and The Martini Bar.

Cruises on Ascent can be expensive, but Celebrity often runs deals on sailings. Without any promotions, sailings around the Mediterranean in 2024 and 2025 may run between about $1,000 and $5,600 per person. In comparison, 2024 and 2025 Caribbean voyages may cost between about $2,000 and $4,400 per person before discounts. (Note: Cruise rates can change frequently, based on demand and availability.)

The stateroom

Stateroom interior on the Celebrity Ascent.

There are over two dozen different stateroom styles on Celebrity Ascent. The smallest (and usually cheapest) rooms are the Inside Staterooms, which offer between 181 and 202 square feet of space. For solo travelers, the Single Inside Staterooms offer the same amenities as a double occupancy room, but with a smaller 103-square-foot layout and no single supplement fee at booking.

Ocean View Staterooms are slightly larger, at 200 to 242 square feet. There are three different room styles; the main difference among them is the size of the window. Options range from small windows in the middle of the wall to large, floor-to-ceiling picture windows.

Ascent's balcony cabins are quite varied, but the majority are Infinite Veranda Staterooms, where the balcony is actually a uniquely designed window that can be opened to let the ocean breeze in. There is a set of glass doors that can be drawn to make this space more private, as well.

Concierge Staterooms allow guests access to a dedicated concierge staff and exclusive onboard events. AquaClass cabins all feature the infinite balcony design, plus unlimited access to the SEA Thermal Suite, complimentary dining at Blu restaurant, fitness classes and a spa concierge.

Celebrity Ascent's suites are all part of The Retreat, the line's ship-within-a-ship concept where cruisers have access to an exclusive restaurant, a sun deck with a pool, a lounge and a dedicated crew. Suites range in size and style, from smaller 319-square-foot studios to massive two-bedroom suites offering more than 2,500 square feet of indoor and outdoor space.

When I sailed on Celebrity Ascent, I stayed in an AquaClass stateroom. The main living space had a king-size bed, which was cozy after long days of exploring the ship and nights spent on the dance floor. I found the cabin's couch a bit uncomfortable, but there was plenty of storage space in the large closet and drawers. Conveniently, the bed was high enough to fit my suitcases under.

Because this was my first time in an Infinite Veranda room, I was interested to see how the balcony actually worked. After pressing a button for the window to roll down, my room instantly filled with humid air – not the sea breeze I was expecting. The air conditioner also turns off when the window is down, so it takes a long time for the room to cool off again. I only opened the window once because of this. For me, the extra veranda space served as more of a sitting area to take in the views than a spot to enjoy the ocean breeze.

My stateroom's bathroom was spacious, with a larger-than-usual standup rain shower. I also loved the eco-friendly bath amenities, which smelled divine. I used the in-room bathrobes and slippers every day of the cruise.

I loved that my AquaClass stateroom came with some amenities that are not included in other Infinite Veranda rooms. There were two yoga mats, two bottles of water that were refreshed daily, a welcome bottle of sparkling wine, an umbrella, binoculars, complimentary shoeshine service and a pillow menu. AquaClass guests also have unlimited access to the spa's thermal suite, complimentary fitness classes and a dedicated spa concierge. I went to the thermal suite daily to enjoy the heated loungers and steam rooms.

Best amenities on Celebrity Ascent

Theater show on the Celebrity Ascent.

On Celebrity Ascent, you'll never be bored. Over just a few days, I was able to participate in game shows and dance parties, sit back and enjoy live music, and spend some time by the pool. While I don't gamble, the casino always seemed to be full when I walked by, and someone was always cheering about hitting the jackpot.

For live entertainment, be sure to catch Flash Flair Fusion, the nightly bartending performance at the Martini Bar. Meanwhile, the Theatre hosted three main shows during my sailing: "Residency," "Awaken" and "Bridges." (Based on my experience, "Awaken" is the production to prioritize.)

Additionally, The Club hosts most of the ship's game shows and some smaller live music events. I loved hanging out at this venue; it was never overly packed with people, and the games were pure fun. I even got called up on stage to participate in one of the games and ended up winning a Celebrity Cruises-branded hat.

For some outdoor fun, hit the onboard pickleball court. Or, head to the Rooftop Garden, where float pools face the ocean and plenty of comfy seating awaits. I loved how lush this space felt, thanks to all of the live plants surrounding the seating areas. This is also the spot to catch movies at night.

If you're looking for an even more unique place to hang out, head to The Magic Carpet. This bright orange, glass-encased bar hangs out over the side of the ship and is the perfect spot for an after-dinner drink. The Magic Carpet can move up and down the side of the ship, docking at select decks for a set amount of time. I loved hanging here at night as the ship was pulling out of port to see the islands light up and watch other ships pass by.

When planning out your evenings, keep in mind that it can be a trek to get from one onboard activity to the next – especially when there is very little time between many of the major scheduled events. One night, I started in The Club to watch a game show, then immediately had to get to the Theatre. After the theater performance, I had to walk the entire length of the ship and take the stairs to get to the night show in Eden. Then, after Eden, it was time for the Shine the Night deck party. By the time I got back to my stateroom, I was exhausted.

Best dining venues on Celebrity Ascent

Pastries at Le Grand Bistro on the Celebrity Ascent.

There are 32 different spots for food and drinks on Celebrity Ascent, including four main dining rooms; four casual complimentary eateries; eight specialty restaurants; 14 cafes, lounges and bars; and two exclusive venues.

Included with the base fare are meals at the four main dining rooms, all of which serve the same menus every day, plus a small exclusive menu that's tailored to the theme of each restaurant. (For example, if you're dining in Cyprus, there is a small list of Cyprus-exclusive dishes that highlight Mediterranean cuisine, while the Normandie restaurant serves up French favorites.)

Other restaurants included in the cruise rate are Eden Cafe & Bar, which serves light bites and sweets; Mast Grill, offering burgers and salads; and Oceanview Cafe, a buffet open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

For an additional cost, head to specialty dining venues like the stunning Le Voyage by Daniel Boulud, which is great for date night; Le Grand Bistro, a fun take on a classic French Bistro; or Eden Restaurant, which features an entirely plant-based menu.

My favorite specialty dining option – and overall favorite restaurant on the ship – was Raw on 5. It features stunning chilled seafood towers, fresh sashimi and hot dishes like fresh lobster and shrimp wontons. Each dish was prepared beautifully, the service was top-notch and our table next to the window offered great views.

However, one restaurant I would skip is Fine Cut Steakhouse. It is a pretty standard steakhouse, and nothing on the menu really stood out to me. The upscale ambiance was also diminished by music floating in from the nearby Grand Plaza and Martini Bar (think: everything from One Direction to Cher). While both artists are great to hear while sipping a martini in a public space, I don't want to hear them while dining at an expensive restaurant.

Travelers cruising to the Caribbean should book a beach outing. There are abundant excursion options in St. Maarten and St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands . If you're into local brews, try the Small Group: Brewery & Beach Tour Philipsburg, St. Maarten .

On a past Mediterranean cruise, I explored both Florence and Pisa, Italy, while docked in the Italian city of Livorno. Celebrity offers a similar excursion aboard the Ascent. The day trip includes a scenic drive through the Tuscan countryside; exploring Florence and seeing the Ponte Vecchio and the Duomo; and a trip to Pisa to see the iconic learning tower. In Rome , consider doing an all-day tour where you can see the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and St. Peter's Square.

Regardless of where your cruise is headed, you may choose to explore ports on your own instead. If that's the case, be sure to give yourself enough time to get back to the ship. I always try to return at least an hour before the scheduled sail away time.

Overall impressions of Celebrity Ascent

Rooftop Garden on the Celebrity Ascent.

When it comes to ships that cater to a mostly adult audience, Celebrity Ascent really has it all. From stunning common areas to incredible dining and entertainment, I was never bored on this ship. What I loved most was the wide range of entertainment, from pop-up music around the ship to full-blown experiences that need to be seen to be believed. The food on the ship is a step above most other major cruise lines, and the number of dining options is great, especially for longer sailings.

While I loved my room's location and amenities as a whole, I found the Infinite Veranda design to be a bit of a waste. When I did use it, my room got hot quickly and took a while to cool back down. I would consider booking a traditional veranda cabin next time, or a stateroom with a large picture window to save some money without sacrificing the ocean views.

Plan Your Cruise With AAA

With many cruise lines now catering to the single crowd, going on a cruise as a single adult can be a great way to meet interesting people to make new friends, new connections and lifelong memories.

No matter what you envision from your dream singles cruise, you can find a ship and a series of destinations that will create unforgettable memories. There are a lot of options to explore, however and the sheer range of choices can quickly feel overwhelming. To help, we've highlighted several of the best cruises for singles. Keep reading to learn what, exactly, sets these expeditions apart.

travel agent celebrity cruises

1. Celebrity Millennium: Bali, Malaysia and Thailand

Many singles gravitate towards exciting adventures in exotic destinations such as Bali, Malaysia and Thailand, which hold appeal simply because they provide such distinct scenery and such powerful cultural experiences.

Not all singles are willing or prepared to navigate these destinations on their own, however and this is where the Celebrity Millennium comes into play: an upscale cruise removes the hassle of planning and, instead, encourages you to relax in style.

This particular Celebrity Millennium adventure spans nearly two weeks, incorporating a unique blend of serene island adventures, cosmopolitan exploration and meaningful temple visits. Onboard, globally inspired menus and resort-style lounges are to be expected, along with plenty of adults-only spaces that will appeal to singles.

2. Celebrity Apex: Norwegian Fjords

If Norway's iconic fjords are on your bucket list, you can't afford to miss this awe-inspiring Celebrity Apex trip . Departing from Southampton, the eight-night cruise meanders along the coast of Norway, hitting pleasant spots such as Geiranger or Kristiansand for spectacular scenery and outdoor adventures. Side trips are available and, with up to ten hours docked, there is plenty of time to explore at your own pace.

Accommodation options abound and, when traveling alone, the staterooms' king-size mattresses feel extra spacious. An adults-only solarium will appeal to relaxation-oriented solo travelers, while abundant dining and entertainment options make it easy to find and connect with new friends.

3. Celebrity Summit: Grand Heartland Adventure

If you're struggling to choose between glamorous onboard experiences and outdoorsy experiences on land, you're in luck: Celebrity Summit provides the best of both worlds with its various Cruisetour offerings. There are many excellent options that depart from Vancouver, Anchorage or Fairbanks — but the Grand Heartland Adventure is worth considering if you crave something new.

During the Grand Heartland Cruisetour, you'll explore the stunning Inside Passage by cruise ship, before docking in adventure-oriented destinations such as Juneau and Sitka. From there, you'll continue to observe national treasures such as the Hubbard Glacier. Further exploration takes place aboard a glass-domed railcar and even a riverboat.

There's also a lot to experience onboard. The AquaClass stateroom represents a true oasis for single travelers, but the exclusive cocktail lounge and martini bar also warrant a visit. With nearly two weeks of cruising and exploration, you'll have plenty of time to unwind on your own but can also form fast friendships with similarly adventurous travelers.

4. Celebrity Edge: Taste of Luxury

Cruises for singles over 50 often emphasize the finer things in life, like elevated cuisine or exquisite wines. These sophisticated details are in abundant supply aboard the Celebrity Edge, which offers a decidedly elegant experience with its Taste of Luxury tour. Although often frequented by retired couples, Celebrity Edge's trips work well as singles cruises.

Available for three or four nights, this remarkable journey begins in Sydney and primarily emphasizes curated on-board experiences. That being said, there are enticing opportunities to explore while docked in Tasmania. With such glamorous suites, restaurants and clubs on board, however, the best attractions can be enjoyed without ever leaving this luxury cruise ship.

travel agent celebrity cruises

5. Disney Wish: Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral

Don't assume that Disney cruise adventures are only for kids or families. If you are a proud Disney adult, you can make amazing memories aboard a thematic cruise for singles. This is a popular vacation among theme park enthusiasts, who enjoy a dose of Disney magic while also finding valuable opportunities to indulge and relax.

Disney Wish's three-night Bahamian cruise is also an excellent option for singles who crave a sea-based experience but only have a few days to spare. Yes, young travelers will be around, but there are plenty of adult-only spaces, including sports bars, dance clubs, dedicated pools and even an onboard spa and salon. Musicals, 3D films and fireworks encourage you to embrace your inner child.

travel agent celebrity cruises

6. Oceania Cruises: In the Path of Cartier — Boston to Montreal

As we've mentioned, smaller ships provide some of the best cruises for singles over 50. Not everyone desires a river-based trip, however and with Oceania Cruises , there is no need to choose between exclusivity and ocean liner grandeur.

A signature experience can be found aboard Oceania Cruises' iconic Nautica ship, which is calming, yet elegant. Echoing the journey of the famed explorer Jacques Cartier, this tour provides a powerful introduction to Quebec, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and New Brunswick.

The land-based excursions are highly educational and, of course, beautiful to behold, but there's also a lot to love on board. Belgian chocolate, Bulgari amenities and turndown service await, with many accommodations also providing spectacular views. Open-seating dining makes it easy to interact with other vacationers while wine-tasting and guest lectures promise plenty of onboard enrichment.

travel agent celebrity cruises

7. Oceania Riviera: Ancient World Wonders — Athens to Istanbul

Another appealing option for singles who prefer slightly smaller ships, Oceania Cruises' Ancient World Wonders tour provides stops at some of the world's most iconic locations, such as Santorini and Corfu. Adventures in Dubrovnik and Istanbul can also be expected. On board this remarkable vessel, you'll gaze in awe at the Lalique Grand Staircase and, in general, enjoy a refined ambiance.

Be prepared to try new flavors and forms of expression as you explore unique offerings such as the Artist Loft and Culinary Center. Deep relaxation awaits at the Aquamar Spa or within your luxuriously contemporary stateroom or suite. This ten-night voyage provides plenty of time to lose yourself in the grandeur of the ship and the treasures of Greece, Montenegro, Croatia and Turkey.

These LGBTQIA+ travel agencies can help you plan the perfect cruise

Ashley Kosciolek

Travel is one of the best ways to experience the world and learn about cultures that are different from your own. But when you're traveling as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, it can be comforting to venture out with a group of like-minded people.

Thinking about a cruise? Looking for gay travel agents or agencies that cater specifically to the LGBTQIA+ community? These travel companies can help you plan the perfect voyage. They mainly specialize in partial- or full-ship charters, where a large number of cabins (if not all of them) is reserved for your group. Read on to see which of these gay travel agencies might be a good fit for your LGBTQIA+-focused cruise .

Note: The information was accurate at the time of publication. Sailings are subject to availability and may be changed or canceled without notice. New voyages may also be added without notice. Check each agency's website for the most up-to-date information.

Atlantis Events

travel agent celebrity cruises

Established in 1991, Atlantis specializes in LGBTQIA+ travel but mostly caters to the gay male community. Although it does offer chartered experiences at a handful of land-based resorts, most of its events are cruise ship charters.

The agency books trips for more than 25,000 travelers each year, nearly half of whom are solo travelers . In addition to raucous parties and handpicked entertainment, Atlantis provides luxury, camaraderie and adventure in some of the world's most beautiful locations.

These trips are ideal for gay travelers looking to mingle and party, as well as couples who want to get away with others in the gay community.

Brand g Vacations

Brand g has been a premier operator of luxury river cruises and land tours for more than a decade. Lines Brand g has partnered with include Amadeus River Cruises and Uniworld River Cruises, among others. Available options take passengers along the Rhine, Danube, Mekong, Moselle, Ganges and more.

Because the company specializes in river cruises with a few exceptions, you'll travel with between 40 and 200 passengers in an intimate full-charter setting that caters to the LGBTQIA+ community and its straight allies.

Brand g packages include upscale amenities such as luxury small-group airport transfers and pre-cruise hotel stays and tours. The company also includes alcohol and shore excursions in its fares.

Dreams Unlimited Travel

travel agent celebrity cruises

Dreams Unlimited Travel is a gay-owned and -operated travel agency that specializes in Disney vacations — Disney World, Disneyland, Adventures by Disney and, of course, Disney cruises — for all travelers, not just those in the LGBTQIA+ community.

In business for more than two decades, it sells a range of Disney Cruise Line voyages, as well as sailings from Royal Caribbean , Norwegian Cruise Line and Celebrity Cruises .

Although they don't necessarily offer chartered cruises, the staff is equipped to assist LGBTQIA+ travelers in finding the perfect trip for them. This means that a wider selection of voyages is available because they aren't limited to just charters or group sailings.

Netherlands-based GaySail organizes small-group gay charter voyages aboard sailing yachts. Each boat carries between 10 and 16 passengers, with one to three vessels sailing together for a group of anywhere from 10 to 30 men. GaySail's nude cruise arm, GayNudeSail, offers similar sailings with a clothing-optional atmosphere.

Destination options for group sailings might include Greece, Croatia, Montenegro, the Seychelles, the Caribbean and Tahiti. Passengers can also opt for a private charter in other areas of the world. All cruises, whether group or private, include the services of a skipper and cook, as well as breakfast and lunch, with dinner organized in port and paid for via a group fund called a "kitty."

The voyages are for gay men only, with a passenger makeup of about 30% to 40% couples and 60% to 70% singles. Guests come from all across the globe, but the official language spoken on board is English. Ages generally range from about 30 to 50, but the cruises see men from all stages of life as long as they're fit enough to sail. (Sailing experience is not required. Passengers can choose to learn from the crew or simply relax and enjoy the trip.)

The main difference in atmosphere between a GaySail cruise and a gay cruise on a large cruise ship is that the former has more of a laid-back vibe, meaning no raucous parties, all-day entertainment or daily housekeeping services.

Olivia Travel

travel agent celebrity cruises

Originally founded as Olivia Records with the aim of helping women launch their own music careers, Olivia Travel has planned trips for more than 350,000 lesbians and other LGBTQIA+ women since it switched its focus four decades ago.

Specializing in women-only travel for members of the LGBTQIA+ community, Olivia offers full-charter vacations, many of them cruises. Because of its musical roots, Olivia has called on big-name talent, such as the Indigo Girls and Cris Williamson, to perform on some of its sailings.

In addition to ocean cruises, the company sometimes offers river sailings.

Out Adventures

This Canada-based company focuses on gay travel for smaller groups, offering a more upscale and intimate experience. Travelers can either join existing land-based tours of no more than 16 people or plan their own tour, with the agency tailoring the experience to client preferences.

Cruises sponsored by Out Adventures max out at 40 people, ensuring you'll feel like more than just a number. This can also present a chance for singles to meet others in a more tight-knit setting. The company's average vacationer is 40 to 55 years old, making these trips ideal for anyone who's no longer in the "party phase."

Additionally, Out Adventures' trips focus on boutique experiences in port while striving to give back to global LGBTQIA+ communities — $50 from each passenger's booking is donated to Rainbow Railroad — while helping to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable time with regard to local customs and attitudes.

Pied Piper Travel

In business for more than 30 years, Pied Piper Travel offers gay and lesbian group sailings on several cruises each year. The company's lines of choice in the past have included Azamara , Cunard Line and Celebrity , featuring destinations like Alaska , the Holy Land, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, the Panama Canal and Australia and New Zealand .

Passengers tend to be mostly gay men of all ages, but lesbians and non-gay or -lesbian friends and family members are also welcome to join.

Although it isn't possible to know how big your group will be ahead of time, past trips have hosted between 15 and 900 passengers. As long as a group minimum of 10 people is met, Pied Piper will assign an onboard host to lead group gatherings, shore excursions and more.

R Family Vacations

travel agent celebrity cruises

Founded in 2003 by Gregg Kaminsky and Kelli Carpenter (former partner of Rosie O'Donnell, who was previously affiliated with the brand), R Family Vacations is unique in the LGBTQIA+ travel space in that its specialty is vacations for families with children.

Since O'Donnell and Carpenter parted ways in 2007, the agency has expanded a bit, venturing into the realm of adults-only LGBTQIA+ travel and personal travel.

However, a large part of its customer base still relies on the R Family name for family-friendly cruise bookings that are not full charters.

RSVP Vacations

Offering gay and lesbian travel since 1985, RSVP Vacations charters entire ships for its cruises. The charters tend to be on some of the newest and largest vessels afloat, promising lots of ways for travelers to have fun on board.

In terms of entertainment, the RSVP team schedules themed parties, where costumes are highly encouraged; showcases the latest films, both gay and mainstream; and highlights performances by gay-positive singers, dancers and comedians.

Although it was acquired by Atlantis Events in 2007, RSVP — which has helped more than 100,000 members of the LGBTQIA+ community travel together — does not offer land-based trips. Like Atlantis, RSVP caters to travel for gay men, but its clientele is about 10% lesbian on each sailing.

Saltyboys Sailing Cruises

Like GaySail, Saltyboys is a Netherlands-based travel company that specializes in small-group gay-men-only cruises on sailing ships. The main difference is that while GaySail offers cruises for passengers who don't feel comfortable going au naturel, all of Saltyboys' voyages are designated as either clothing-optional or nudist cruises .

The Saltyboys clientele generally ranges in age from 20 to 50, but there are always exceptions.

Each vessel carries about 10 passengers in addition to the crew, and boats might sail in a flotilla of more than one vessel, meaning your group could join up with others while in port. All voyages include the services of a skipper and crew. Although no sailing experience is required, if you don't wish to learn how to help with anchoring or do your own grocery shopping or cooking, Saltyboys also offers luxury sailings where your fare includes a cook, so everything will be handled for you.

Source Journeys

travel agent celebrity cruises

For two decades, Source Journeys has offered all-gay luxury travel that balances adventure with class. It caters equally to singles and couples in groups ranging from 15 to 300 people. The company also donates a portion of all proceeds to LGBTQIA+ charities.

Besides land vacations and individually customized trips, Source promotes full charters of small, intimate cruise ships from lines like Windstar and Atlas Ocean Voyages . You won't find wild parties or scandalous shenanigans, but you will enjoy an upscale experience that's perfect for meeting other gay travelers with discerning tastes.

Source Journeys also runs partial gay charters aboard larger ships (think: vessels from Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line), but those are generally specific Pride sailings that are shorter in duration and to less exotic destinations. Most of what the company touts are voyages to places like the Black Sea, the Dalmatian Coast, Tahiti, the Greek Isles and Antarctica .

Toto Tours is the oldest LGBTQIA+-focused travel company that has had the same management throughout its tenure. Opened in 1990, the agency helps gays, lesbians and their friends and family members travel in comfort and safety.

Most of Toto's business comes from land-based trips and tours, including customized ones, but it does occasionally add cruises to its repertoire.

Vacaya prides itself on serving the entire LGBTQIA+ community and its allies rather than focusing heavily on just gay men. The company provides fully chartered access to all-inclusive, land-based resorts, but where it really shines is with its cruises.

Often offering both river and ocean cruise options, this travel agency mixes fun with adventure and learning on ships both large and small, allowing you to find a sailing that meets your preferences. It can also help to match you with a roommate to offset costs if you're traveling alone.

Although Vacaya is a fledgling company, having launched in 2019 with its first season of trips, it offers a solid product.

Nearly 70 Celebrity Cruises guests sick in norovirus outbreak

travel agent celebrity cruises

  • Nearly 70 passengers and five crew members got sick in a norovirus outbreak on a Celebrity Cruises ship.
  • The ship is currently sailing week-long Alaska voyages between Vancouver and Seward.
  • The illness is frequently associated with cruise ships, but those outbreaks account for just 1% of all outbreaks reported, according to the CDC.

Nearly 70 Celebrity Cruises passengers got sick in a norovirus outbreak during a recent cruise.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said 68 of Celebrity Summit’s 2,264 guests reported being ill during a cruise that ended on Friday, along with five crew members. Their main symptoms were diarrhea and vomiting.

The ship is currently sailing week-long Alaska voyages between Vancouver and Seward, according to CruiseMapper . In response to the outbreak, the cruise line isolated sick guests and crew and collected samples for testing, among other steps, the health agency said.

There were an isolated number of cases on board and the impacted guests are no longer on the ship, according to Nathaniel Derrenbacher, a spokesperson for Celebrity’s parent company Royal Caribbean Group. Summit was also sanitized.

The news follows another norovirus outbreak on Celebrity Constellation in January that left nearly 100 guests sick. The CDC has logged seven outbreaks of gastrointestinal illness on cruises that met its threshold for public notification so far this year. Norovirus was listed as the causative agent in all but one.

Cruise ship medical facilities: What happens if you get sick or injured (or bitten by a monkey)

The illness is frequently associated with cruise ships, but those outbreaks account for just 1% of all outbreaks reported, according to the CDC. Dr. Sarah E. Hochman, a hospital epidemiologist and the section chief of infectious diseases at NYU Langone Health’s Tisch Hospital, told USA TODAY in April that those happen in communities on land, too.

“There's not something special or unique about cruise ships,” she said at the time. “It's really any type of congregate setting, but it's also happening out in the community on a much smaller scale among households and household contacts. It just doesn't come to the attention of public health as much as it does for larger congregate settings.”
