DALLAS (AP) — The first model of the USS Enterprise — used in the opening credits of the original “Star Trek” television series — has boldly gone back home, returning to creator Gene Roddenberry’s son decades after it went missing.

The model’s disappearance sometime in the 1970s had become the subject of lore, so it caused a stir when it popped up on eBay last fall. The sellers quickly took it down, and then contacted Dallas-based Heritage Auctions to authenticate it. Last weekend, the auction house facilitated the model’s return.

Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry, CEO of Roddenberry Entertainment, said he’s thrilled to have the model that had graced the desk of his father, who died in 1991 at age 70.

“This is not going home to adorn my shelves,” Roddenberry said. “This is going to get restored and we’re working on ways to get it out so the public can see it and my hope is that it will land in a museum somewhere.”

Heritage’s executive vice president, Joe Maddalena, said the auction house was contacted by people who said they’d discovered it a storage unit, and when it was brought into their Beverly Hills office, he and a colleague “instantly knew that it was the real thing.”

They reached out to Roddenberry, who said he appreciates that everyone involved agreed returning the model was the right thing to do. He wouldn’t go into details on the agreement reached but said “I felt it important to reward that and show appreciation for that.”

Maddalena said the model vanished in the 1970s after Gene Roddenberry loaned it to makers of “Star Trek: The Motion Picture,” which was released in 1979.

“No one knew what happened to it,” Rod Roddenberry said.

The 3-foot (0.91-meter) model of the USS Enterprise was used in the show’s original pilot episode as well as the opening credits of the resulting TV series, and was the prototype for the 11-foot (3-meter) version featured in the series’ episodes. The larger model is on display at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum.

The original “Star Trek” television series, which aired in the late 1960s, kicked off an ever-expanding multiverse of cultural phenomena, with TV and movie spinoffs and conventions where a fanbase of zealous and devoted Trekkies can’t get enough of memorabilia.

This USS Enterprise model would easily sell for more than $1 million at auction, but really “it’s priceless,” Maddalena said.

“It could sell for any amount and I wouldn’t be surprised because of what it is,” he said. “It is truly a cultural icon.”

Roddenberry, who was just a young boy when the model went missing, said he has spotty memories of it, “almost a deja vu.” He said it wasn’t something he’d thought much about until people began contacting him after it appeared on eBay.

“I don’t think I really, fully comprehended at first that this was the first Enterprise ever created,” he said.

He said he has no idea if there was something nefarious behind the disappearance all those decades ago or if it was just mistakenly lost, but it would be interesting to find out more about what happened.

“This piece is incredibly important and it has its own story and this would be a great piece of the story,” Roddenberry said.

Thankfully, he said, the discovery has cleared up one rumor: That it was destroyed because as a young boy, he’d thrown it into a pool.

“Finally I’m vindicated after all these years,” he said with a laugh.

The inspiration for the different versions of the USS Enterprise cuts across various television series, films, books, and even video games . 

For over five decades, the starship has undergone many remarkable transformations.

It has continued to amaze fans with its evolving design, cutting-edge technology, and the diverse crews aboard.

Each of the different versions of the USS Enterprise represents a unique era and vision of the future. 

Its transformations from its origins in the 1960s to its latest incarnations reflect its creators’ ever-changing vision and fans’ evolving expectations.

Here are 11 versions of the USS Enterprise that have ignited the spirit of exploration that defines the fictional human space experience.

1. USS Enterprise (NCC-1701)

The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) holds a special place in the hearts of Star Trek fans.

It was introduced in the original Star Trek series that aired from 1966 to 1969. Captain James T. Kirk commanded this Constitution-class starship. 

The ship exemplifies the vision of Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek.

It was designed with a saucer-shaped primary hull, twin warp nacelles, and lines in ways that were simply amazing.

Its elegant and functional aesthetics have influenced countless other spaceship designs in science fiction since its inception.

2. USS Enterprise-A (NCC-1701-A)

Following the events of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, this starship was commissioned as a replacement for its predecessor, the original USS Enterprise.

It is one of the versions of the USS Enterprise that has marveled at Trekkies worldwide due to its design and rich history.

One of the defining features of the Enterprise-A was its commitment to exploration and diplomacy. 

It could handle its challenges because it had advanced sensors, warp drives, and various defensive systems.

Missing since the 1970s, the model popped up on eBay last fall. The seller eventually took down the item and helped facilitate its return to Rod Roddenberry, the son of the late "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry. Roddenberry, the son, says he now hopes to get the model into a museum for the public to enjoy.

Original USS Enterprise model from ‘Star Trek’ returned to creator’s son

The first model of the USS Enterprise, the starship that appeared in the opening credits of the original “Star Trek” television series, has been returned to Eugene Roddenberry Jr., the son of the creator of the series, decades after it went missing.

“After a long journey, she’s home,” Roddenberry wrote on social media Thursday.

For die-hard Trekkies, the model’s disappearance had become the subject of folklore, so an eBay listing last fall, with a starting bid of $1,000, didn’t go unnoticed.

“Red alert,” someone in an online costume and prop-making forum wrote, linking to the listing.

Roddenberry’s father, Gene Roddenberry, created the television series, which first aired in 1966 and ran for three seasons. It spawned numerous spinoffs, several films and a franchise that has included conventions and legions of devoted fans with an avid interest in memorabilia.

The seller of the model was bombarded with inquiries and quickly took the listing down.

The seller contacted Heritage Auctions to authenticate it, the auction house’s executive vice president, Joe Maddalena, said Saturday. As soon as the seller, who said he had found it in a storage unit, brought it to the auction house’s office in Beverly Hills, California, Maddalena said he knew it was real.

“That’s when I reached out to Rod to say, ‘We’ve got this. This is it,’ ” he said, adding that the model was being transferred to Roddenberry.

Roddenberry, who is known as Rod, said Saturday that he would restore the model and seek to have it displayed in a museum or other institution.

He said reclaiming the item had only piqued his interest in the circumstances about its disappearance.

“Whoever borrowed it or misplaced it or lost it, something happened somewhere,” he said. “Where’s it been?”

It was unclear how the model ended up in the storage unit and who had it before its discovery.

The original USS Enterprise, a 33-inch model, was mostly made of solid wood by Richard Datin, a model maker for the Howard Anderson Co., a special-effects company that created the opening credits for some of the 20th century’s biggest TV shows.

An enlarged 11-foot model was used in subsequent “Star Trek” television episodes, and is part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, where it was donated by Paramount Studios in 1974.

Roddenberry, who said he gave the seller a “reward” for its recovery but did not disclose the terms, assembled a group of “Star Trek” production veterans, model makers and restoration specialists in Beverly Hills to authenticate the find.

The group included a “Star Trek” art supervisor, Michael Okuda, and his wife, Denise, an artist on “Star Trek” television series and films, and Gary Kerr, a “Trek x-pert” who served as technical consultant for the Smithsonian during a 2016 restoration of the 11-foot model.

“We spent at least an hour photographing it, inspecting the paint, inspecting the dirt, looking under the base, the patina on the stem, the grain in the wood,” Roddenberry said.

“It was a unanimous ‘This is 100% the one,’ ” he said.

Gene Roddenberry, who died in 1991, kept the original model, which appeared in the show’s opening credits and pilot episode, on his desk.

Kerr compared the model to 1960s photos he had of the model on Roddenberry’s desk.

“The wood grain matched exactly, so that was it,” he said Saturday.

The model went missing after Roddenberry lent it to the makers of “Star Trek: The Motion Picture,” which was released in 1979, Maddalena said.

“This is a major discovery,” he said, likening the model to the ruby slippers from “The Wizard of Oz,” a prop stolen in 2005 and recovered by the FBI in 2018, and that Heritage Auctions is selling.

While the slippers represent hope, he said, the starship Enterprise model “represents dreams.”

“It’s a portal to what could be,” he said.

It was our first look at the vision of Star Trek ’s future: the original ship model of the USS Enterprise that zoomed across screens in the show’s opening credits. But after being loaned out during the making of Star Trek: The Motion Picture , it had gone missing... until now.

After, bizarrely, it randomly turned up on eBay last fall—the first time it had been seen publicly since it had gone missing —the original model of the Enterprise made for the Star Trek pilot “The Cage” and shooting its opening titles sequences is now back in the hands of the Roddenberry estate. After the eBay seller quickly learned just what they had their hands on, the model was handed over to Heritage Auctions for authentication, and when it was confirmed to be the long-lost Trek icon , held in storage until it could be handed over to Rod Roddenberry this past weekend. “After five decades, I’m thrilled that someone happened upon this historic model of the USS Enterprise . I remember how it used to adorn my dad’s desk,” Roddenberry said in a statement provided over email. “I am tremendously grateful to Heritage Auctions for facilitating the return of this iconic piece of Star Trek history to my family.”

The original model served as the prototype for what would become the primary original 11-foot shooting model of the Enterprise , which has had a similarly long and winding history on display at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum —it was damaged, then tweaked in an a restoration that was ultimately undone to restore it to its original glory just in time for Trek ’s 50th anniversary back in 2014. Like its successor, the newly recovered model will find a life outside of a private collection: Roddenberry Entertainment intends to put it on public display.

“I can’t wait to figure out how we are going to share it with my extended family, Star Trek fans around the world,” Roddenberry’s statement concluded. “We look forward to making that announcement.”

The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-G) , formerly the USS Titan (NCC-80102-A) , was a Federation Constitution III -class starship operated by Starfleet in the 24th and 25th centuries .

Launched in 2396 under the command of Captain Liam Shaw , the USS Titan -A was originally the fourth Starfleet vessel to bear the name Titan and the second to bear the NCC-80102 registry . Later that year, The Titan -A was stationed at Sol Station when Admiral Jean-Luc Picard and Captain Riker boarded the Titan -A under the ruse of a routine inspection; it was really a means to use the ship to get to the Ryton system to locate Doctor Beverly Crusher . They were met by the ship's first officer , Commander Seven of Nine (temporarily going by Annika Hansen at Shaw's insistence). Shaw emphatically denied Riker and Picard's request to change course, but Commander Seven ordered a course set to those coordinates anyway and allowed Picard and Riker to commandeer one of Titan 's shuttles into the Ryton Nebula . ( PIC : " The Next Generation ")

For these acts of insubordination , Shaw relieved Seven of duty and had her confined to quarters. ( PIC : " Disengage ")

Shaw reluctantly took The Titan -A into the nebula after sensors showed the SS Eleos XII had come under attack from the Shrike , which was holding it in a tractor beam . The Titan -A interrupted the beam and transported Picard, Riker, Beverly, and her son, Jack Crusher , aboard. Beverly received medical attention in the Titan 's sickbay. The Shrike 's Captain Vadic demanded Shaw turn Jack over to her custody, claiming there was a sizeable bounty on his head, and used her vessel’s tractor beam to throw the Eleos at the Titan -A, penetrating its shields and damaging Deck 11 with shrapnel . Due to the Shrike 's overwhelming tactical superiority, Shaw chose to take his ship deeper into the nebula. ( PIC : " Disengage ")

The Ryton Nebula [ ]

The Titan -A took fire from the Shrike , damaging the warp drive and aft sensors. To compensate, Shaw ordered crewmembers to visually search for the Shrike through the windows of the aft observation lounge. The Shrike caught up to them and opened fire, causing severe damage and incapacitating Captain Shaw. He transferred command to Captain Riker, who used a torpedo detonation maneuver to temporarily shake the Shrike off their tail, buying time for the crew to complete repairs.

The Shrike soon resumed pursuit, using stolen portal technology to forcibly redirect the Titan -A away from the nebula's edge. Commander Seven and Jack Crusher successfully repaired a verterium leak, intentionally caused by a Changeling posing as Ensign Eli Foster , that was allowing Vadic to track the Titan . However, before the Titan could leave the nebula, this same Changeling disabled the repaired warp drive with an explosive. Captain Riker opened fire on the Shrike , which used its portal tech to redirect the torpedo volley at the Titan , causing it to lose all propulsion and fall into the nebula's central gravity well . ( PIC : " Seventeen Seconds ")

The Titan was forced to intermittently lower shields to avoid causing a reactor meltdown, as main power had dropped to nine percent. Commander Seven attempted to locate the Changeling, who had already murdered Foster days prior and murdered another officer while evading pursuit.

Jack and Beverly Crusher devised a plan to manually open the ship's nacelle covers, allowing the Titan to absorb the energy from the periodic shock waves emitting from the nebula's center and "hitch a ride" out. Only Captain Shaw had the necessary expertise to hot-wire the twenty-year-old technology; Commander Seven successfully identified and killed the Changeling infiltrator when it attempted to sabotage this process. By temporarily diverting power from life support , the Titan was able to absorb the shock wave's energy and restore full power while propelling itself toward the nebula's edge.

When the Shrike intercepted, Captain Riker had the ship's tractor beam used to snag a nearby asteroid, causing it to collide with the Shrike and damage it enough for the Titan to escape. The Titan crew then witnessed the birth of an unknown species of spacefaring cephalopod lifeforms (the cause of the shock waves) before departing the Ryton system. ( PIC : " No Win Scenario ")

Return to Federation space [ ]

The Titan then limped back to Federation space where they decided to stop at the edge of the Alpha Quadrant for repairs. Riker then transferred command of the ship back to Shaw who had since recovered from his injuries. Shaw reinstated Commander Seven and informed Riker and Picard that he had informed Starfleet of what had transpired and that they were on their way.

The USS Intrepid rendezvoused with them, sending over a security contingent led by Commander Ro Laren to bring Picard and Riker into custody. However, Ro privately instructing Picard to take the Titan -A on the run and arranged for the majority of its crew to be transferred to Intrepid instead. As Ro returned to Intrepid , her shuttle was sabotaged by changeling spies, and she purposely crashed it into Intrepid 's port nacelle to buy time for her former captain to escape. Intrepid ordered the Titan -A to stand down and opened fire, forcing Shaw to flee. ( PIC : " Imposters ")

The Titan -A scattered multiple decoy transponder buoys to distract pursuers and traveled to Daystrom Station to investigate the recent theft there, beaming a team into the installation, but was forced to flee when Starfleet arrived. Titan went to the Starfleet Fleet Museum and hid itself among the exhibits, with permission from the museum's director . Jack and Titan 's helmsman Sidney La Forge illegally removed the cloaking device from the HMS Bounty and installed it aboard the Titan -A, allowing it to return to Daystrom undetected, where they rescued Worf , Commander Raffaela Musiker and Daystrom Android M-5-10 before the ship was forced to flee again. ( PIC : " The Bounty ")

Laying a trap [ ]

The Titan -A was able to conceal itself in the Chin'toka scrapyard on minimum power while the crew attempted to locate Riker, which Seven of Nine attempting to connect with allies, including the friend Captain Tuvok , who was discovered to have also been compromised . After determining he was being held aboard the Shrike , they laid a trap for Captain Vadic, sending a falsified subspace message about the Titan -A being crippled in battle with the Vulcan warship VSS T'Plana .

When Vadic and her Changeling crew boarded the Titan -A, Shaw and Seven used the security systems to trap them inside force fields . Unfortunately, the M-5-10's Lore personae gained control long enough to corrupt the ship's systems and free the Changelings, who then seized the bridge. Vadic sat in the command chair and declared herself "captain of the USS Titan " while demanding Jack Crusher's surrender. ( PIC : " Dominion ")

Vadic used bridge controls to lock down the ship, shutting off lights and communications and trapping the remaining crew with emergency bulkheads while her changeling troops attacked them. Jack attempted to use his newfound telepathic abilities to have Lt. Mura enter Picard's command override code on the bridge to regain control, but Vadic stopped him and executed Lt. T'Veen as incentive/punishment. Jack then proceeded to the bridge to buy the others time, stalling Vadic by threatening to destroy himself with a bomb unless she released her hostages, which she did. Once Data 's persona fully integrated into the M-5-10 unit, he easily overrode Vadic's lockout and regained control of the ship. Introducing himself as the ship's “positronic, pissed-off security system”, he trapped the changeling soldiers in the corridors and ejected Vadic into space via the bridge evacuation hatch. Jack's "bomb" was actually a portable force field generator , keeping himself and Cmdr. Seven safe during the decompression. Worf and Musiker wiped out the remaining changelings after rescuing Riker and Deanna Troi from the Shrike , which the Titan -A destroyed with a torpedo barrage. ( PIC : " Surrender ")

Borg takeover [ ]

The Titan -A was subsequently taken over by the Borg who assimilated all of the younger crew members. The older command crew managed to escape on a shuttle, but Captain Shaw was killed by one of the assimilated crewmen, passing along command of the ship to Seven of Nine as he died. Seven remained behind with Raffaela Musiker as the rest of the command crew fled. ( PIC : " Vox ")

Subsequently, Seven, Musiker and a few older crew members managed to retake the bridge using adapted phasers to act as handheld transporters and used them to imprison the assimilated bridge crew in the transporter room. Detecting the USS Enterprise -D near a Borg cube , Seven realized that Picard and his crew were engaging the Borg in a ship which couldn't be controlled like the Titan and they needed to buy as much time as they could for the Enterprise to shut down the Collective's signal. Because Fleet Formation required line-of-sight transmissions, the Titan was able to use its stolen cloak to regain autonomy while using every prefix code they had for the entire fleet to scramble their shields. The Titan began decloaking to make attack runs, destroying several ships, before recloaking when the automation tried to regain control of them. However, despite the Titan pulling some of the fleet's attention off of Spacedock , it was eventually destroyed and the planetary shields failed and the fleet began targeting every major population center on Earth. The assimilated ensigns escaped the transporter room and destroyed the cloak, leaving the Titan exposed once more. A direct hit disabled the Titan before the assimilated officers stormed the bridge. However, the Enterprise was able to destroy the Borg cube, breaking the Borg's control over Starfleet and returning the assimilated personnel to normal.

Following the destruction of the Borg, Admiral Beverly Crusher , now the Head of Starfleet Medical , devised a fleet-wide transporter solution to remove the Borg DNA from the young officers while also scanning for Changeling infiltrators. While clearing the Titan 's crew, Crusher found and exposed a second infiltrator in the crew who was arrested. Following his rescue from the Changelings, Captain Tuvok met with Seven on the Titan , revealing that Picard and his crew had been pardoned for their crimes, including hijacking the Titan . As per Captain Shaw's recommendation in his officer review of Seven transmitted before the ship left for the Ryton system , Tuvok officially promoted Seven to the rank of Captain and put her in command of the Titan . According to the Star Trek: Picard Logs , the Titan -A was launched in 2402 . [2] Showrunner Terry Matalas has since confirmed that this was an error and that the Logs were meant to list the launch date as 2401 . [3]

After spending some time serving on the USS Titan under the command of Captain William Riker (Jonathan Frakes), Boimler gets approached by a group of ensigns who are obsessed with advancing in the ranks. They all look up to Captain Riker and want to know about Boimler's experience on the Titan. As he falls in with the group (who amusingly refer to themselves as red shirts ), they help Boimler become more captain-like.

As part of their preparation for their future captaincy, the red shirts practice the inspiring speeches they will give one day. In order to get into the right mindset, Boimler envisions himself on the bridge of the Enterprise-D as he delivers his stirring speech . It's appropriate that Boimler pictures the Enterprise-D bridge, as perhaps no captain could deliver a better speech than Shakespearean connoisseur Captain Picard . But there's a lot more to being a great captain than being a good speaker, as "The Spy Humongous" soon points out. When a real crisis occurs, it's Boimler who saves the day, while the red shirts all shout their speeches over the chaos.

2 Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1 Brought Back USS Enterprise-D

The enterprise-d appeared in prodigy season 1, episode 6 - "kobayashi".

In Star Trek: Prodigy season 1, episode 6, "Kobayashi," Dal R'El (Brett Gray) and Jankom Pog (Jason Mantzoukas) stumble upon the USS Protostar's holodeck. Dal decides to take on the infamous Kobayashi Maru test to prove that he deserves to be captain. Introduced in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan , the Kobayashi Maru is a supposedly unwinnable scenario designed as a test of character for Starfleet Academy cadets. When Dal begins the program, the bridge of the Enterprise-D appears around him, all of its computers and panels flashing to life.

As Dal looks at a roster of potential holographic officers to round out his crew, he asks the computer to give him the best. Lt. Nyota Uhura (Nichelle Nichols), Constable Odo (René Auberjonois), Spock (Leonard Nimoy), and Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) appear on the bridge, later to be joined by Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott (James Doohan). Dal doesn't know that the Kobayashi Maru is designed to be a no-win scenario, so he performs the test over and over, prompting the holographic Dr. Crusher to comment on his stubbornness. The whole sequence is a wonderful display of the powers of animation to resurrect the beloved and comforting bridge of the Enterprise-D , and it's an excellent character moment for Dal as he realizes the importance of listening to his crew.

The voices of Uhura, Odo, Spock, and Scotty are brought to life with archival audio from the original actors pieced together from various episodes. Gates McFadden reprises the role of Beverly Crusher for the first time since Star Trek: Nemesis .

1 Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Brought Back USS Enterprise-D

The enterprise-d appeared in picard season 3, episode 9 - "vox", and episode 10 - "the last generation".

The real USS Enterprise-D made a triumphant return in Star Trek: Picard season 3, after Commodore Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton) revealed he had spent the last twenty years restoring his former ship. With his position as curator of the Starfleet Museum, Geordi had access to all of the parts he needed to rebuild the Enterprise-D. After the saucer section was retrieved from where it had crashed on Veridian III in Star Trek Generations , Geordi used a warp engine and nacelles from other galaxy-class starships to complete the rebuild.

Geordi's forethought not only gave Admiral Picard and his old crew a huge dose of nostalgia, but also ended up saving all of Starfleet. After the Borg Queen (Alice Krige) and the Changelings put their plan to destroy Starfleet in motion, the Enterprise-D was the only ship not under Borg control. With the reunited TNG crew back on board, the Enterprise-D proved instrumental in saving the galaxy yet again. The reunion of the Star Trek: The Next Generation cast would have felt incomplete without the Enterprise-D. The iconic ship gets the final mission it deserves as it swoops in to save the day one last time, before going to rest back at the Starfleet Museum.

DALLAS (AP) — The first model of the USS Enterprise — used in the opening credits of the original “Star Trek” television series — has boldly gone back home, returning to creator Gene Roddenberry's son decades after it went missing.

The model's disappearance sometime in the 1970s had become the subject of lore, so it caused a stir when it popped up on eBay last fall. The sellers quickly took it down, and then contacted Dallas-based Heritage Auctions to authenticate it. Last weekend, the auction house facilitated the model's return.

Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry, CEO of Roddenberry Entertainment, said he's thrilled to have the model that had graced the desk of his father, who died in 1991 at age 70.

“This is not going home to adorn my shelves," Roddenberry said. “This is going to get restored and we’re working on ways to get it out so the public can see it and my hope is that it will land in a museum somewhere.”

Heritage's executive vice president, Joe Maddalena, said the auction house was contacted by people who said they'd discovered it a storage unit, and when it was brought into their Beverly Hills office, he and a colleague “instantly knew that it was the real thing.”

They reached out to Roddenberry, who said he appreciates that everyone involved agreed returning the model was the right thing to do. He wouldn't go into details on the agreement reached but said “I felt it important to reward that and show appreciation for that.”

Maddalena said the model vanished in the 1970s after Gene Roddenberry loaned it to makers of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture," which was released in 1979.

“No one knew what happened to it," Rod Roddenberry said.

The 3-foot (0.91-meter) model of the USS Enterprise was used in the show's original pilot episode as well as the opening credits of the resulting TV series, and was the prototype for the 11-foot (3-meter) version featured in the series' episodes. The larger model is on display at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum.

The original “Star Trek” television series, which aired in the late 1960s, kicked off an ever-expanding multiverse of cultural phenomena, with TV and movie spinoffs and conventions where a fanbase of zealous and devoted Trekkies can't get enough of memorabilia.

This USS Enterprise model would easily sell for more than $1 million at auction, but really “it’s priceless," Maddalena said.

“It could sell for any amount and I wouldn’t be surprised because of what it is," he said. “It is truly a cultural icon.”

Roddenberry, who was just a young boy when the model went missing, said he has spotty memories of it, “almost a deja vu.” He said it wasn't something he'd thought much about until people began contacting him after it appeared on eBay.

“I don't think I really, fully comprehended at first that this was the first Enterprise ever created,” he said.

He said he has no idea if there was something nefarious behind the disappearance all those decades ago or if it was just mistakenly lost, but it would be interesting to find out more about what happened.

“This piece is incredibly important and it has its own story and this would be a great piece of the story,” Roddenberry said.

Thankfully, he said, the discovery has cleared up one rumor: That it was destroyed because as a young boy, he'd thrown it into a pool.

“Finally I’m vindicated after all these years," he said with a laugh.
