The Dangerous World Tour is the second worldwide concert tour by Michael Jackson . It was launched in support of the artist's eighth studio album, Dangerous (1991) and lasted from June 27, 1992 until November 11, 1993. The shows were sponsored by Pepsi .

The tour grossed a little less than its predecessor, Bad World Tour , gaining over $100 million. All profits were donated to charities including Heal the World Foundation . As it was nearing its end, the Dangerous World Tour was unfortunately cancelled due to Jackson's declining health. The tour was originally going to end on Christmas 1993.

During the final show of the Bad World Tour in 1989, Jackson stated it was going to be the final time the world would see him on stage. This was initially the plan for his career going forward, as Michael later explained, concerts were exhausting and he went through "hell" touring. Additionally, the artist wanted to focus on making music and filmmaking instead.

On February 3, 1992 Michael held a press conference at Radio City Music Hall in New York, where the Dangerous World Tour would be announced. Michael explained, that the sole reason he'd do the tour was to raise funds for the Heal the World Fundation. The goal was to gain $100 million by Christmas of the following year; a goal the artist succeeded with.

As the tour was nearing its end, in 1993 Jackson was accused of child sexual abuse by Evan Chandler. This caused Michael to begin taking drugs to ease his mind, but caused his physical health to worsen. On November 11, Michael played in Mexico, which would unfortunately become the final show of the tour, as the rest of it would be cancelled so the artist can focus on improving his health.

For the tour, Jackson rocked a couple different outfits. These were designed by Michael Bush and Dennis Tompkins .

He wore two different, military-like outfits; first was blue and glittery with a golden stripe crossing over the top, while another version was colored in black, and with two golden stripes. Another outfit was completely different from the above; featuring a completely golden top, and black pants. A fourth outfit featured Jackson with a golden, glittery top and two black striped crossing over it, and blue pants.

On November 16, 2005, a little over a decade after the show took place, a DVD of the October 1, 1992 show at the Bucharest National Stadium was released as a part of The Ultimate Collection , and saw its separate release as Live in Bucharest: The Dangerous Tour on July 25, 2005.

While all of the tour was professionally filmed, the Bucharest concert was the only broadcasted show of the Dangerous World Tour. However, amateur recordings of other shows have been shared online for years.

• After the Oslo, Norway concert, " The Way You Make Me Feel " and " Bad " weren't performed for the rest of the tour, although the songs did return for the first 4 concerts in Tokyo. This also became the final performance of "Bad" Jackson ever gave.
• " Workin' Day And Night " and " Beat It " were taken out of the setlist in the third leg. The cherry picker that was used for "Beat It" in the first and second legs was then used for " Black or White " in some concerts in the third leg.
• " Rock with You " and " Remember The Time " were taken out of the setlist due to wardrobe malfunctions.
• Rehearsals for the tour have taken place in Jackson's Neverland home and at Culver City Studios. Footage of the rehearsals can be found on YouTube. [1] [2]
• The " We Are the World " interlude in the 1993 shows was extended, starting with the band and the backup singers singing along with the crowd.
• In some early 1992 shows " Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' " and "Beat It" were performed in their original key.
• Diana Ross was in the attendance on the Oslo show on July 15th 1992.
• Elizabeth Taylor was in the attendance on the Stockholm show on July 17th 1992.
• " Man in the Mirror " was taken out of the setlist of 1993, but was performed in Argentina (first and second night, on the third he had a headache and didn't perform it. He had added it due to the Argentinian audience's warmth according to what their people had told us), it was also performed at the last concert in Mexico. Contrary to popular belief, "Man in the Mirror" was not performed on any night in Brazil or Israel. It is believed by the words of the public that "Man in the Mirror" was also performed during the concert in Chile.
• During " Heal the World " in Bangkok, Michael wore the white shirt from "Man in the Mirror".
• The magic trick at the end of " Thriller " was not performed at the third leg and at select first leg shows.
• Michael cut his finger during the performance of " Jam " in the Copenhagen show, prompting Michael Bush to put a bandage on Michael's finger during " Human Nature ".
• The silver jacket that Michael wore during "Jam" in the 1992 shows (except for Munich and 7 Tokyo shows), was used for the Jackson 5 medley in the 1993 shows. It was confirmed thanks to a photograph that it was used in Tokyo (December 24).
• The original black jacket of "Jam" was only used in Munich and in possibly 7 concerts in Tokyo 1992. This jacket has 3 other versions. One of these was used in the 1993 Superbowl . Another version was used only in the first concert of 1993. And the final version was used during the rest of 1993, during the photo session of the album HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I in 1994, the Royal Concert 1996, and it was last used for Michael's scan for a video game in 1999.
• " Will You Be There " had 3 different endings during the tour: in one Michael would be joined by a female dancer in a angel costume (similar to MTV 10th Anniversary performance in 1991); in another one Michael would be joined by a girl who would do sign language and in the final one he would finish the song alone.

Michael Jackson HIStory World Tour

The Michael Jackson HIStory World Tour began in September of 1996, and it continued until October of 1997. This was Michael’s third world tour, and ultimately his last, as the “This Is It Tour” never had a chance to start. The HIStory World Tour consisted of 82 concerts , and nearly 4.5 million people attended.

The tour began in Brunei and was finally finished when the King of Pop did his final concert in Durban, South Africa. During the HIStory World Tour, he touched 44 countries in Europe, 19 in Asia, 11 in Australasia, 6 in Africa, and finally 2 in North America.

This tour ended up beating his prior world tour, which was the “Bad World Tour”, in terms of attendance and dollars. Had Michael not passed away so soon, we would have had his final and last world tour, the “ This Is It Tour “.

Dangerous World Tour: 1992 – 1993

The Dangerous Tour started on June 27th 1992 and ended on November 11th 1993. It consisted of 69 concerts and was seen by approximately 3.5 million people. All proceeds from the tour were donated to various charities, including Michael’s Heal The World Foundation. The tour was unfortunately cut short due to health reasons.

The tour had a spectacular ending, with what looked like Michael putting on a jet pack and flying over the audiences’ head and out of the stadium’.

Beyoncé may be riding high off Cowboy Carter right now, but Renaissance is the gift that keeps on giving.

In a revelatory conversation with Ahmir Questlove Thompson on his Questlove Supreme podcast, renowned choreographer Fatima Robinson revealed how Beyoncé came up with stage design and concept for the Renaissance World Tour during the pandemic — and why the superstar shifted her approach to dance on her most recent trek.

“That was Beyoncé sitting in a pandemic with a lot of time on her hands and coming up with the most incredible, creative stage that I had ever gotten to work on,” Robinson gushed of the Renaissance World Tour stage. The sold-out stadium tour featured two separate platforms connected by a moving ramp, a main stage complete with a sprawling flatscreen, a B stage that stretched into the crowd, and a slew of props including, a tank, pyrotechnics, a laser show, a giant clam shell, robot arms, a flying “disco horse” and various levitating platforms.

“She has quite a few choreographers across her span of music,” said Robinson. “We gave me the title ‘director of choreography’ because I was the point person that all the choreographers worked under and with. It was such a big boulder to get up a hill, that show.”

While Robinson has worked with Beyoncé in the past — most notably on 2006’s Oscar-winning Dreamgirls and her “Be Alive” performance at the 2022 Oscars — she joined forces with several other choreographers for the Renaissance tour, including her two other team members, Chris Grant and four other choreographers who worked on numbers sporadically.

Her first solo concert tour since 2016’s Formation World Tour , the Renaissance World Tour presented a notably different Beyoncé. While the three-hour show was still a feast for the eyes and ears, the performance included less intense choreography than her past tours — partially due to a knee injury she suffered before those 56 sold-out shows.

Robinson’s revelations echo sentiments Beyoncé herself shared in Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé . Throughout the documentary, Queen Bey mused about looking to her idols to inform how she moves in her career. The Renaissance tour was a celebration of that, from a surprise appearance from Diana Ross to a multi-city tribute to the late Tina Turner .

“Look at how Prince was when he passed away, he had those hip replacements because of all those splits and stuff,” noted Robinson. “Look where Michael [Jackson] is. We want you around performing for years to come, so let’s not put that kind of pressure. Let’s ease into it, let’s stand there and be powerful and step into a different kind of power, and guess what? They gon’ come with you!”

That approach to performing also resulted in a very Beyoncé take on the concept of an opening act. For each show, Beyoncé began with a set of ballads , introduced by a beautiful piano-led rendition of 2003’s seminal “Dangerously In Love 2.”

“I turned to her and I was like, ‘This is really fly, starting with ballads,'” recounted Robinson. “She laughed and she said, “I’m opening up for myself!”

In addition to the Renaissance World Tour, Robinson also worked on 2023’s The Color Purple movie musical, which topped the domestic box office on opening day and earned one Oscar nomination (best supporting actress for Danielle Brooks).

Michael Jackson Biopic Trailer Electrifies CinemaCon With Moonwalking King of Pop, ‘Thriller’ Performance and More

“ Michael ,” the upcoming biopic about pop legend Michael Jackson that seems guaranteed to spark conversation, debuted a dazzling and emotional first look at CinemaCon during Lionsgate’s presentation to theater owners on Thursday in Las Vegas.

The sweeping footage starts as hysterical fans scream along to Jackson as he owns the stage, flashing between performances of his biggest hits like “Man in the Mirror” and “Thriller.” The movie, which is still in production, will feature over 30 songs and recreate several performances of them, starting with Jackson 5’s classic rendition of “ABC” on “American Bandstand.”

Later in the footage, he says, “When I’m not onstage everything feels foreign to me.”

There’s certainly no shortage of material to mine in telling Jackson’s story. Before debuting the trailer, producer Graham King” called the film “an inside look at the most prolific artist who ever lived.” He teased, “There are elements of drama, intrigue and emotional states.” King noted that he’s been preparing for the movie for seven years, interviewing hundreds of people and carefully considering how to condense his complex life and legacy.

“There are biopics — and there’s Michael Jackson,” said King, who also served as a producer on the box office smash “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Jackson topped charts and moonwalked his way into cultural history with classics like “Beat It,” “Billie Jean,” “Bad” and “Black or White.” But he also faced multiple allegations of child sexual abuse — a 1993 lawsuit involving the singer was settled out of civil court and in 2005 he was tried and acquitted on different claims. Jackson died in 2009 from an overdose of propofol.

“We’ll get into all of it,” King promises. “Behind the unrelenting scrutiny and the accusations and the spotlight, he was simply a man — a man with a very complicated life.”

The most daunting part of the moviemaking journey was finding the man to embody a near-mythic figure like Jackson. “When I started out, everyone said, ‘You’ll never find anyone to play him,” King recalled.

Well, in the end, they didn’t have to look far beyond the performer’s kin. “Michael” stars Jaafar Jackson, who also happens to be Jackson’s real-life nephew. In the minutes-long clip that played for theater owners, but is not yet available to the public, Jaafar Jackson embodies every inch of his uncle’s charisma and stage presence while sporting his signature white button-down, glittery glove and fitted fedora.

Oscar-nominee Colman Domingo (as Joe Jackson) and Nia Long (as Katherine Jackson) will portray the superstar’s parents. The ensemble includes Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kat Graham, Larenz Tate and Jessica Sula. Fuqua, a popular filmmaker whose hits include “Training Day” and “The Equalizer,” directed the film from a script by “Gladiator” screenwriter John Logan.

“Michael” hits theaters on April 18, 2025. The film comes as musical biopics have been embraced by audiences with the likes of “Bohemian Rhapsody” (a look at Queen frontman Freddie Mercury), “Rocketman” (the story of Elton John), “Elvis” and “Bob Marley: One Love” connecting at the box office.

Judging by the reaction of theater owners inside the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, the controversy that surrounds Jackson’s legacy may not matter to audiences around the world. “Michael” looks like it has the goods to be another crowd-pleasing hit.

'Daunting' Michael Jackson biopic wows CinemaCon with first footage of Jaafar Jackson

LAS VEGAS – The first glimpse at the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic was a real thriller.

On Wednesday, movie theater owners at CinemaCon got an exciting sneak peek at director Antoine Fuqua's "Michael" (out April 18, 2025), which stars the King of Pop's nephew Jaafar Jackson as the music legend and is currently in production.

"Michael, you have a very special light. So let your light shine unto the world," MJ's mom Katherine (Nia Long) says in voiceover. The first footage showed the icon with the Jackson 5 (with Juliano Krue Valdi as young Michael) and then in concert doing all the smooth moves fans know and love. (And in case you're wondering, Jackson has his uncle's look and dancing down pat.)

Who is playing Michael Jackson in the movie?

Set mostly to "Man in the Mirror," the first footage of Jaafar Jackson covered different musical moments but also family life and some of the darker bits as well, such as being overwhelmed in the public eye and being rushed to the hospital.

In a Lionsgate presentation, producer Graham King ("Bohemian Rhapsody") promised the biopic would cover Jackson's musical successes, including more than 30 songs, and his controversies. "There are biopics, and then there is Michael," said King, who called him "an enigma full of eccentricities."

Jackson "was a simple man who lived a complicated life," King added. "When you mention his name, everyone has an opinion of him." And so far, putting his life onscreen has been "a daunting task to say the least."

The "Michael" cast also includes Oscar nominee Colman Domingo as family patriarch Joe Jackson, Miles Teller as attorney John Branca, Kat Graham as Diana Ross and Larenz Tate as Berry Gordy.

Domingo told USA TODAY earlier this year that he was "still exploring what I love about" about Joe Jackson "and the one thing I've found so far is how strong he was."
