For those truly epic, once-in-a-lifetime destinations, you want to leave your itinerary to the experts. Whether your dream is to see the Big Five on an African Safari, trek tall mountains, explore European cities, or something even wilder, a group tour is the easiest way to do it.

However, picking the wrong group tour company is the quickest way to ruin your trip. Make sure you choose a tour company that aligns with your goals and travel styles. Do you want an intimate group tour or do you prefer to make lots of new friends in a big group? Does the price line up with what you like (luxury vs. budget)? Is the itinerary going to all the places you want to see?

We’ve done the research and found the very best group travel tour companies for 2024 for every type of traveler.

These small group tours operate with only around 8-16 people and always feature experienced local leaders who can give you a unique insight into your destination. There are curated collections (coastal, “away from it all”, European wilderness, and trips of a lifetime) to inspire you, as well as self-guided options for when you want all the benefits of a group tour planner without the actual group. Looking for that special safari? Exodus Aventure Travels just partners with the African Wildlife Foundation to create carefully curated luxury adventures that go above and beyond the standard safari.

Exodus Adventure Travels tours work for almost any budget, with options that range from affordable to premium.

Music tour-ism is one of the biggest travel trends.

Fans from all over flock to Chicago’s Lollapalooza.

When Paul, John, George and Ringo touched U.S. soil in 1964, Beatlemania swept across America. With Taylor Swift hitting the stage this summer for the European leg of her record-breaking Eras Tour, the continent sits in the midst of an all-out Taylor tantrum.

Not only is the “Shake It Off” singer taking her catalog of chart-topping hits on a 15-city jaunt, but thousands of Swifties are joining her on the ride, too, and they’re bringing their passports, sequin skirts and hefty wallets along with them.

If the European stretch of Swift’s tour is anything close to the behemoth that swept through North and South America in 2023 — between March and December of last year, Eras became the first tour in history to earn more than $1 billion — economies in places like Dublin and Warsaw are going to see seismic changes.

Zurich’s The Dolder Grand is ready for the Swifties.

Zurich , Switzerland, where the megastar will perform on July 9 and 10, is another destination that should feel “the Taylor Swift Effect.” The energy around The Dolder Grand , a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star property sitting just five miles from Letzigrund stadium, is already electric.

Best High-Yield Savings Accounts Of 2024

Best 5% interest savings accounts of 2024.

“We’re expecting 100 percent occupancy while Taylor Swift is in Zurich,” says Joachim Schweier, the hotel’s senior marketing and communications manager. “These concerts are directly impacting bookings, as fans are traveling the world to see their favorite artists. The Dolder Grand and the city of Zurich are preparing for an influx of tourism during these dates. These large events draw attention to the destinations, positively impacting the hotels, retail and restaurants in the city.”

Of course, fans following their favorite acts is far from a new phenomenon. The Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix faithful happily made the trip to a Bethel, New York, farm in 1969 for Woodstock. Folks migrate to Somerset, England, from all over Europe every year for the Glastonbury Festival. Still, the impact Swift, Beyoncé and a few other marquee names are having on travel plans today is unprecedented. The Dolder Grand room rates start at $1,940 on July 8, the day before Swift hits the stage. Prices drop to $840 once she leaves for Milan .

Jackson was in complete control at the 2023 OMF.

We all know that hotel rates fluctuate around big events. What’s less common knowledge is that festival organizers play a balancing act of staying affordable while keeping afloat. “But if we want to give these fans an ultimate experience, we can’t be the only people paying for it,” says Jason “J” Carter, founder of Dallas ’ new TwoGether Land festival and Atlanta ’s successful One Music Fest. Janet Jackson and Kendrick Lamar headlined the latter two-day show that welcomed roughly 100,000 music lovers in 2023. And while the 2024 lineup won’t be announced until July, anticipation is brewing. So too are rumbles about ticket prices. “It has to be a collective effort, if you want this,” Carter says. “But price sensitivity is something that we look at and take seriously.”

Still, he insists, “Janet and Kendrick ain’t cheap! These artists are getting millions of dollars, right? Their production costs millions of dollars. It’s all related. It’s all connected. That ticket price directly reflects the talent that you see on the stage and the cost to put that thing on.”

If you’re thinking about attending One Music Fest (October 26 and 27), flying to Chicago for the SZA-anchored Lollapalooza (August 1 to 4) or going to Post Malone-headlining Festival d’été de Québec in Quebec City (July 4 to 14), know that there’s a considerable investment attached. Between concert tickets, flights, hotels, food and merchandise, the U.S. Travel Association estimates the average Swiftie spreads $1,300 across local economies. But with more people craving experiential travel, many aren’t hesitating to pull out their credit cards.

The summer is heating up with music tours and festivals.

Leilani Brown is one of those fans. The strategic adviser/business coach has been “chasing sound” for years, journeying from her Charleston -area home to hear Roy Ayers in Los Angeles and see The Roots perform in Philadelphia . Over that time, she’s garnered a lot of experience on the road. Whether it’s picking the right travel buddy (“Ensure that your companion is a true music lover”), scoring good seats (“VIP is essential for better seating, viewing and bathroom access”) or packing a sensible outfit (“Wear layers and bring items you don’t mind discarding”), Brown knows that things must work in harmony for the trip to be a success.

One other key for fans driving or flying to a show is a simple but often overlooked tip — embrace the experience. Just because you’ve forked over a small fortune for a wristband, that does not mean you’re obligated to watch every act. Take breaks. Pace yourself. “This is a pleasure trip, not a work trip,” Brown says. “Leave room for serendipity — eat, drink, shop and sleep as you wish.”

And that’s where posh properties such as Rhode Island’s Castle Hill Inn come in. Sitting only an eight-minute drive from Fort Adams State Park, site of the beloved Newport Folk Festival (July 26 to 28) and Newport Jazz Festival (August 2 to 4), the Four-Star hotel has welcomed music fans to its property for decades. After concertgoers watch Hozier and Killer Mike’s sets, they drop into places like the Terrace Bar and Mansion Bar because the venues keep the energy festive with craft cocktails and a local jazz trio that riffs well into the night.

“The city takes great pride in [being welcoming],” says Brian Young, Castle Hill Inn’s managing director. “There is an influx of people over the course of the summertime. They’re all here for a really wonderful reason. For the folk festival, a lot of people tend to bike in. They’ll drop their cars at the outskirts of town and bike all the way in and just enjoy all that Newport has to offer.”

The Newport Folk Festival is always a great time.

Back in Zurich, while there’s nothing Swift-specific in The Dolder Grand’s plans, the hotel is all abuzz with its 125th anniversary going on while it also celebrates the seasonal reopening of vegan restaurant Blooms. “We are expecting our dining facilities to be at high occupancy levels during this time and recommend travelers make reservations prior to their arrival in Zurich,” Schweier says. “The Dolder Grand is excited to welcome these artists and visitors to the hotel and the city.”

Swift will wrap up the European portion of the Eras Tour on August 20 in London. After that, she’ll stop by Miami , New Orleans and a few other North American cities before ending the tour in Vancouver in December. But even when Swift unplugs the mic, it won’t mean the megastar tours will stop. Billie Eilish is hitting the road this fall and winter. There’s still a possibility of Beyoncé touring for Cowboy Carter . And with rumors of Rihanna returning to the studio, we can probably expect to see the pop sensation fill up arenas again soon, too.

“Megastars like Beyoncé supercharge folks,” Carter says. “You want to get back outside. If you’ve forgotten how live music makes you feel, Beyoncé will remind you. It almost heightens the need or desire to experience connectivity with fellow music lovers and your community. You want to do it again and again. It can definitely be addictive.”

On Location: ‘Fancy Dance’ Takes Audiences on a Tour of Indigenous Oklahoma

By Kate Nelson

History-making Blackfeet-Niimíipuu Lily Gladstone’s latest movie, Fancy Dance , brings audiences back to Oklahoma —where other Indigenous-focused projects like Reservation Dogs and Killers of the Flower Moon were also filmed. It’s a logical shooting location given that the state was once known as Indian Territory and is home to nearly 40 federally recognized Native American tribes.

Centered on the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) crisis, the film from Seneca-Cayuga filmmaker Erica Tremblay follows Jax (Gladstone) and her niece, Roki ( Isabel Deroy-Olson ), as they embark on a journey to an important powwow in the aftermath of a loved one’s disappearance. It sets out from the Seneca-Cayuga Nation then takes viewers on a whirlwind tour of Oklahoma, from Tulsa to Oklahoma City and beyond.

Here, we talk with production designer Charlotte Royer and set decorator Tafv Sampson about creating both familiar and foreign settings across the Sooner State to bring this heartbreaking yet heartwarming story to life. (Warning: Spoilers ahead.)

How did you capture everyday life on the Seneca-Cayuga Nation?

Charlotte Royer: My research gave me a lens to see and listen through—including reading Seneca-Cayuga stories and folktales as well as learning about the relationship that the Seneca-Cayuga people had to their landscape of origin and how that was adapted and carried through the experience of displacement. How we carry our lost homes with us, how we hold grief.

Our process involved paying deep attention to the existing natural world and the way people move through, inhabit, and impact the land—a constant dynamic dance that can often be destructive, but sometimes is generative and healing. Receiving the wisdom of our local crew and Keysa Parker , our Seneca-Cayuga knowledge and language keeper. Grounding in Erica’s passionate and fierce connection and commitment to her traditions. And collectively experimenting and working to adapt and decolonize the filmmaking process.

I was incredibly lucky to work with the tight-knit crew—family, really—from Reservation Dogs , who are already so rooted in the Native community in Oklahoma. The degree of authenticity that’s onscreen could never be achieved without an empowered Native crew working under the leadership of a passionate and talented director who has a deep-lived understanding of the story she’s telling.

Tafv Sampson: We really tried to foster an environment where nothing felt safe or familiar aside from Jax and Roki’s trailer and the senior center. Erica [Tremblay] is very visual, so we took time to determine what emotions certain colors would represent to help set the tone of the film. For instance, we wanted yellow to feel like a temporary safe haven amongst the chaos, which you see in the diner. The owner, Tim (who is Osage), made us a lemon meringue pie with all these lemons, and we brought yellow, gold, and orange décor into the background.

We wanted purple to represent family and home, so we brought that into [Roki’s missing mom] Tawi’s bedroom. Trish Fields, who we worked with on Rez Dogs , made this beautiful star blanket with different shades of purple that we put on the back wall. There’s a lot of purple in that room, then obviously Roki is in Tawi’s purple outfit. We were very intentional with color.

Where in Oklahoma did you film?

CR: All around Tulsa. Jax and Roki’s home was in Sperry at Tafv’s auntie’s house—thank you Pogie! The powwow for the film’s finale was shot in Oklahoma City at the First Americans Museum .

TS: The trailer was the hardest to find. We scouted so many places, but nothing was feeling right. I realized my Aunt Pogie’s house has the bones of what Erica wanted the space to be, so we drove out there, and immediately Erica was like, “This is their home.” We pulled these reference photos of the house from the 1980s and brought it back in time; we completely stripped it down, wood paneled the whole thing, and painted different rooms.

We left a lot of the personal items as they were, which is similar to the approach we took on Rez Dogs . I really believe that objects carry energy and people can feel it—the actors, the crew, even people watching. For example, my aunt’s mother passed away a few years ago, and there’s a really beautiful photo of her on the mantle. I hope all those emotional easter eggs help make their home feel like one of the only places of solace and safety in the film.

What settings are particularly memorable for you?

CR: It’s so hard to choose, but I think the heart of the film for me will always be Jax and Roki’s home. It brought so much depth and love to the screen. I believe spaces can have a great deal to say, and that space was such a generous and present collaborator.

There were so many little moments of beauty that fill my heart when I think back to making this film—the back room at [strip club] Tailfeathers, where Jax and Sapphire kiss and the iridescent curtains behind them that look like mother-of-pearl. The moon rising over the cornfields. The elders doing puzzles in our community center set. I’m so grateful to our brilliant cinematographer Carolina Costa for capturing these glimmers with clarity and grace.

TS: This film had a lot of locations, and the senior center was a rare safe space that was supposed to have a feeling of community. It was one of the only places where we had people—whether Lily, Isabel, Erica, or crew members—bring in items that mean something to them for the set. We also brought in the wood paneling since we wanted that space to feel like an extension of Jax and Roki’s home.

Tafv, how did this compare to your work on Reservation Dogs , which was also shot in Oklahoma?

TS: For Rez Dogs , we wanted to emphasize this sense of community and pretty much stuck to Okmulgee . Whereas for Fancy Dance , we were very intentional that none of the places felt connected to community other than their home and the senior center. We were also super spread out geographically—in Tulsa, Sperry, Oklahoma City, and small towns near Pawhuska —in a way that establishes this feeling of Jax and Roki against the world. That was really important for this sort of road trip movie, where you have to keep going in order to survive.

What went into creating the culminating powwow scene?

CR: A lot of love, planning, a resonant location, and Tafv’s amazing ability to bring the community together. She reached out to so many incredible folks who brought their popup tents and wares to help create a true powwow scene to envelope the drummers and dancers. Filming at the First Americans Museum was a dream; the swooping architecture, circular footprint, and grand scale of that space grounded the deep emotions of our final scene in a sense dignity, resistance, and hope.

TS: We knew the powwow scene was going to be the biggest challenge of the film, and it ultimately came together in this beautiful way with the support of the entire community. Normally we probably would have filmed at a real powwow, but we couldn’t do that since we were filming during COVID. I think Rez Dogs gave us some street cred and got people excited to recreate a powwow—with real vendors, an emcee, food, raffles, and people walking around and dancing.

This amazing MMIW nonprofit Way of the Sacred Mountain that travels for events and helps spread awareness came and set up their poles. It was so beautiful, because we blessed the poles with water and tobacco. We did prayer. We also featured this Pendleton MMIW blanket called “Never Alone” by Joe Chamberlain , an artist we worked with on Rez Dogs who sadly passed away from cancer recently. We were so lucky to have these authentic pieces as part of the powwow narrative. It was a really beautiful way to end the filming of Fancy Dance .

Do you have any travel recommendations for Tulsa visitors?

CR: Wildflower Cafe , which kept us fed through the mad dash of production. Magic City Books, for its lovely employees—and books, obviously. The Starlite Bar , for killer cocktails and new wave goth night dancing. And Greenwood Rising Black Wall St. History Center to honor the past. Tulsa has a rich and complex history, and this museum is a must-visit to learn about the thriving Black community of Greenwood that was devastated by the Tulsa Race Massacre just over 100 years ago.

TS: Southwest Trading Company is an Indigenous-owned store that carries everything under the sun from Native makers—art, blankets, jewelry, and other gifts. Another amazing place is this farm Living Kitchen in Depew about 45 minutes from Tulsa, where they host themed community dinners. The last shoutout I want to give is to Redstick Gallery in Okmulgee, another Indigenous-owned store that carries a lot of artwork and jewelry from Native makers.

Fancy Dance premieres in select theaters June 21 and streams globally on Apple TV+ on June 29.

6 Top Boston Harbor Cruises

Venture on the water to explore Beantown's waterfront, maritime history and more.

Exterior shot of the Boston Odyssey on the water with the Boston skyline in the background.

Courtesy of City Cruises by Hornblower

Boston is the most populous city in New England – and for good reason. This Massachusetts metropolis may host modern shopping, dining and cultural attractions , but Boston is built upon a rich American tapestry created over the centuries that's still visible in its quaint neighborhood streets and stone houses. The city's historic harbor along the Massachusetts Bay set the scene for a significant portion of Boston's story; once the site of Revolution-era protests like the Boston Tea Party, this body of water is now primarily used for revelry. No visit to Massachusetts' capital city would be complete without some time on Boston Harbor.

If you'll be in Beantown during the warmer months, consider boarding a schooner for an hour or two of sightseeing. Cruises on the harbor offer a range of historical tours, romantic dinners, unique brunches with friends or even the chance to spot some endangered whales. Whether you opt for a tall ship or a smaller vessel, soak in city views and enjoy your time on the water with the following top Boston Harbor cruises.

Boston Harbor City Cruises by Hornblower – Boston Harbor Whale Watch Cruise

Price: Adults from $70; kids from $50 Duration: 3-4 hours

Hornblower's City Experiences brand offers a wide variety of land-based and on-the-water tours. One of the most popular options is its whale watching cruise, which it operates with the New England Aquarium . From Boston's Central Wharf, you'll head to Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, one of the world's most active marine sanctuaries. Whales in the region include humpbacks, minke whales, the endangered right whales and more. You can also try to spot sea birds, dolphins and other marine life. Travelers say the boat tour is great fun and most report seeing whales on the trip.

Tours generally run daily from spring through fall. Exact departure times vary by season. You'll want to arrive at least 15 minutes early and take some medication if you're prone to motion sickness. If you plan to pair this cruise with a trip to the aquarium, you can book a combo ticket to save a bit of money. Boston Harbor City Cruises also runs a variety of dinner cruises.

Liberty Fleet of Tall Ships – Boston Harbor Day Sail

Price: Adults from $55; kids from $35

The crew is happy to answer questions about Boston during the sail, but know that there is no narration during the tour. Travelers delight in both the tour and the boat, noting excellent views.

The fleet sails Boston Harbor from summer through early fall. Sails typically depart several times each day in the afternoon; however, specific times may vary depending on the day of the week. You can also hop onboard for a brunch cruise, a fireworks cruise or for the yearly USS Constitution turnaround sail.

Classic Harbor Line Boston – Northern Lights Sunset Cruise

Along this evening tour, you'll be treated to skyline views as the sun dips below the horizon. During the journey, you'll also learn a little about Boston's history and its best sites such as Fort Independence, the USS Constitution , Old North Church's steeple and more. Refreshments are available for purchase onboard. Travelers approve of the cruise – especially the gorgeous ship – and its staff.

Departure times and days vary depending on both the sunset and the season. Keep in mind that ticket fees will be slightly higher in the high season. The company also hosts a number of themed and food cruises, such as holiday cruises and a trip that focuses on beer and barbecue.

Boston Duck Tours

Price: Adults from $52.99; kids from $37.99

Duration: 80 minutes

It's nearly impossible to visit Boston and not run into one of its renowned Duck Tours. This type of amphibious automobile was originally created as a military vehicle for World War II. The vehicles used today by Boston Duck Tours are uniquely designed to roll past city sights like Boston Common , the Old North Church and the Fanueil Hall Marketplace before or after launching into the Charles River for views of the Cambridge and Boston skylines. Past customers remember these unique tours as one of the best parts of their visit – and as a special draw for kids, the tour guides may allow children to briefly steer the boat in the water for a particularly memorable experience.

Trips depart from the New England Aquarium, Museum of Science and the Prudential Center; tour prices are the same regardless of departure point. Tours run in the warmer months, usually from late spring to fall. It's a good idea to book online in advance to secure your preferred tour time.

Massachusetts Bay Lines – Boston Harbor Moonlight Cruises

A Massachusetts Bay Lines boat on the water.

For an extra special evening, sign up for a Full Moon Cruise, which takes place once per month from May to October.

Tours run a few times a month and generally start at 9 p.m. The company also runs daytime harbor cruises and themed cruises that welcome dogs onboard.

Charles Riverboat Company – Charles River Sightseeing Tours

Price: Adults from $27; kids from $18 Duration: 70 minutes

After cruising through the harbor, why not explore another Boston waterway? Along the historic sightseeing cruise of the Charles River, you'll see some of Cambridge's best sights like Harvard University and MIT , as well as Boston University, and the Back Bay neighborhood. The crew will offer tidbits and trivia during the tour. Tourgoers enjoy the outing and several mention that the company is great if booking a private charter for a large party.

Tours run late May though the end of September at 12:30, 2 and 3:30 p.m. If you wish to explore the Boston Harbor and the Charles River in the same trip, consider signing up for the company's Architecture Tour.

Why South Dakota's Wind Cave National Park is a marvelous two-for-one special

one travel and tour

Wind Cave National Park may not be the only national park with a cool cave , but that doesn’t make it any less special.

“I think the caves are a little bit like people,” said Tom Farrell, chief of Interpretation at the park. “They're all a little different. They have their own story to tell.”

Wind Cave, for instance, is the sixth longest cave in the world and among the most complex.

“Larger caves (are) spread out over a larger area. We’ve got 167 miles of cave crammed under 1.2 square miles on the surface,” he said.

And that's not all there is to see at the Wind Cave. Here’s what else travelers should know about the latest national park in USA TODAY’s yearlong series .

What is so special about Wind Cave?

“We have the best example of boxwork found anywhere in the world,” Farrell said. “I like to brag we had the best boxwork in the solar system because the Mars Rover sent back some pictures that kind of look like crude boxwork, but ours are better.”

He compared the honeycomb-like calcite formations hanging from the cave’s ceilings and walls to fragile peanut brittle.

“Unlike a stalactite and a stalagmite that could continue to grow if they had more water dripping on them, these things, once you break them, they're broken, so they’re very rare and very delicate,” he said.

How much does it cost to get into Wind Cave National Park?

It’s free to enter Wind Cave National Park, but there are fees for ranger-guided cave tours . Most tours cost less than $10.

Can you go into Wind Cave without a tour?

No. “It’s too dangerous,” Farrell said. “Either people would crawl off trail and get lost,or people could vandalize the cave, so to protect the cave and protect the visitor, you’ve got to go with a ranger.”

Guided tours range from the 30-minute Accessibility Tour to the Wild Cave Tour, “where we give you a hardhat, elbow pads and knee pads and take your crawling in the cave for three to four hours,” he said.

How big is Wind Cave National Park?

Wind Cave National Park spans roughly 34,000 acres above ground. Below the surface, its namesake cave extends at least 167 miles. Farrell said there are around 3,000 leads still waiting to be explored.

“We're gradually expanding and learning a little bit more about the cave,” he said. “It's an exciting place to be.”

Just don’t follow your GPS to get there.

“You will get lost,” the park’s website warns in bold letters. “Many GPS units locate the park visitor center north on South Dakota Highway 87. The coordinates for the Visitor Center are N43 33' 22" W103 28' 38".

The park is about 11 miles north of Hot Springs, South Dakota. The nearest commercial airport, Rapid City Regional Airport, is more than 60 miles away in Rapid City.

How long do you need at Wind Cave National Park?

“If it's just going to explore the cave, you could do it in half a day,” Farrell said. “If you're going to go hiking or whatnot, you definitely need at least a day.” There are more than 30 miles of trails in the park.

Travelers should note that the cave itself is closed this summer to allow for elevator updates. Instead of guiding visitors into the cave, rangers will lead interactive virtual tours in the park auditorium, allowing visitors with mobility impairment or claustrophobia to view parts of the cave they may never experience otherwise.

There’s plenty else to see above ground, including black-footed ferrets, prairie dogs, elk, and “a very unique bison herd.”

“This time of year, it's great because they have new calves that are cinnamon-colored,” Farrell said.

Additionally, new exhibits are expected to open at the park’s visitor center later this summer, sharing more of the Native history of the land.

“If you can't find something that you're passionate about here, you're just not trying,” Farrell said.

What is submersible tourism? The Titanic expedition, explained.

How common are deep-sea expeditions like the Titan’s? Where else do submersibles go?

one travel and tour

Seeing the wreck of the Titanic firsthand is a journey.

One must board a submersible vessel about the size of a minivan built to withstand the pressure of descending nearly two and a half miles into the depths of the Atlantic Ocean . It takes about two hours to reach the sunken ship and another two to get back to the surface, plus time for exploration.

And even with a price tag of a quarter of a million dollars, there has been no shortage of people with interest for such an adventure. Philippe Brown, founder of the luxury travel company Brown and Hudso , said there’s a long wait list for the OceanGate Expeditions submersible experience at the center of the world’s attention. The vessel, called the Titan, vanished Sunday in the North Atlantic with five onboard , triggering a wide-reaching search mission that ended Thursday, when the Coast Guard said a remotely operated vehicle discovered debris from the vessel on the ocean floor. Pieces of the submersible indicated it had imploded in a “catastrophic event," Coast Guard officials said. A spokesperson for OceanGate said the pilot and passengers “have sadly been lost."

For the world’s richest and most intrepid travelers, a submersible trip is not so far-fetched, says Roman Chiporukha, co-founder of Roman & Erica, a travel company for ultrawealthy clients with annual membership dues starting at $100,000.

“These are the people who’ve scaled the seven peaks, they’ve crossed the Atlantic on their own boat,” Chiporukha said. The typical vacation of the ultrawealthy, like a beach getaway on the Italian Riviera or St. Barts, “really doesn’t do it for them,” he added.

That description fits tycoon Hamish Harding , who was among the five people on Titan. An avid adventurer who’s thoroughly explored the South Pole and the Mariana Trench, Harding was also on the fifth spaceflight of Blue Origin , the private space company founded by Jeff Bezos, who owns The Washington Post.

Harding and the Titan journey represent the extreme end of the submersible tourism industry, which has been growing in popularity since the 1980s. Ofer Ketter , a longtime submersibles pilot and co-founder of SubMerge , a firm that provides consulting and operations of private submersibles, says such deep-sea journeys are rare in comparison to those in more tropical locations. For example, the luxury tour operator Kensington Tours offers a $700,000, 10-day yacht trip that includes a 600-plus-foot dive in a submersible in the Bahamas to explore the Exumas ocean floor.

Here’s what else to know about the industry.

Deep water, high pressure: Why the Titanic sub search is so complex

Missing Titanic submersible

The latest: After an extensive search, the Coast Guard found debris fields that have been indentified as the Titan submersible. OceanGate, the tour company, has said all 5 passengers are believed dead.

The Titan: The voyage to see the Titanic wreckage is eight days long, costs $250,000 and is open to passengers age 17 and older. The Titan is 22 feet long, weighs 23,000 pounds and “has about as much room as a minivan,” according to CBS correspondent David Pogue. Here’s what we know about the missing submersible .

The search: The daunting mission covers the ocean’s surface and the vast depths beneath. The search poses unique challenges that are further complicated by the depths involved. This map shows the scale of the search near the Titanic wreckage .

The passengers: Hamish Harding , an aviation businessman, aircraft pilot and seasoned adventurer, posted on Instagram that he was joining the expedition and said retired French navy commander Paul-Henri Nargeolet was also onboard. British Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, 48, and his son, Suleman, 19, were also on the expedition, their family confirmed. The CEO of OceanGate , the submersible expedition company, was also on the vessel. Here’s what we know about the five missing passengers.

Love the sesh? This Wetherspoons-inspired holiday might be for you

The interior of The Winter Gardens restaurant.

If there’s one thing Brits love, it’s a visit to Spoons . Cheap food and even cheaper pints , what’s not to like?

And a visit is made all the better if your local happens to be one of the Wetherspoons pubs located in a cool venue — like the Opera House in Tunbridge Wells, or The Counting House in Glasgow which still has an old bank vault inside.

Many fans of the chain like to visit different ones around the UK, and if you’ve ever been tempted to see some of the best pubs Wetherspoons has to offer, then now’s your chance.

Travel company, MyUKTour, is launching the UK’s first ever Wetherspoons holiday.

The ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ trip would give fans a chance to tour some of the weird and wonderful locations, while also getting to see more of the UK and several historical sites.

There will be two different tours available, one southern (seven days, six nights) and one for northern parts of Britain (six days, five nights), but neither will come cheap, with trips starting from £1,800 per person.

A Wetherspoons pub breakfast

But there’s a catch, this cost only includes one night of accommodation at a Wetherspoons Hotel. The other nights are paid for separately, and can be arranged by the travel company on your behalf, or you can sort it out yourself.

Highlights of the seven day tour will include The Winter Gardens in Harrogate, which is said to be one of the country’s most beautiful Spoons’ venues, as well as The Sir William de Wessyngton in Sunderland, (the cheapest Spoons’ in the north), and The Rochester Castle in Hackney, the oldest surviving Spoons’ venue.

If that weren’t enough, you’ll also get to visit Wetherspoons founder, Tim Martin’s, favourite Spoons pub along the way, experience Curry Club, as well as a Spoons breakfast, and play the iconic Wetherspoons game, where people buy food and drink for strangers.

The tours are customisable so you could add more locations, or include both northern and southern locations on your holiday.

Wetherspoons tour locations:

South Tour Visits:  London, Cambridge, Canterbury, Tunbridge Wells, Exeter, Penzance.

It includes seeing eight iconic Wetherspoons venues plus The Tower of London, Kings College Chapel, Abbey of St Edmund, Canterbury Cathedral, Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery and Pendennis Castle.

North Tour visits : Keswick, Blackpool, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Harrogate, Newcastle.

It also includes seeing six iconic Wetherspoons venues, the Wordsworth House and Garden, Blackpool promenade, Albert Dock, The Cavern Club, Manchester museums, Royal Armouries Museum, Nidderdale National Landscape.

A spokesperson from MyUkTour said ‘All of us at MyUKTour are so excited to start offering this bespoke trip to one of Britain’s best known, and arguably finest, cultural institutions.

‘Combining hearty pub grub and craft ales with historical monuments and stunning landscapes, this tour is sure to showcase the very best that Britain has to offer.’
