Red-hot Hovland and more: 3 things to watch for the Tour Championship final round

The prohibitive favorite to get it done is Viktor Hovland . Fresh off a victory at the BMW Championship, Hovland never lost momentum, starting hot and staying hot through the first three rounds.

Heading into Sunday’s final round, he sits a 20 under, six shots ahead of his nearest competitor, Xander Schauffle . Can Hovland pull off the biggest victory of his career today? You’ll have to watch to find out.

TOUR Championship

ATLANTA — The PGA Tour season concludes at East Lake Golf Club for the Tour Championship this week, as the top 30 players look to take home the FedEx Cup.

Here is everything you need for the Tour Championship: a preview, full TV schedule, streaming schedule, and complete list of first-round tee times.

Tour Championship Information

Where: East Lake Golf Club (Par 70, 7,346 yards)

When: Aug. 24-27th

Purse: $75 million ($18 million to the winner)

Defending Champ: Rory McIlroy

Tour Championship Preview

The final event of the 2023 season is here as the PGA Tour looks to crown a FedEx Cup champion at the Tour Championship. Players will compete for a $75 million purse, where the winner will take home a whopping $18 million.

This week is different from the BMW Championship and FedEx St. Jude Championship. Players start with strokes depending on where they finished on the points standings. Scottie Scheffler will start at 10-under, Viktor Hovland at 8-under, Rory McIlroy at 7-under, Jon Rahm at 6-under and so on.

East Lake Golf Club is a doozy. Multiple par-4s stretch beyond 450 yards, and there are only two par-5s on the course. Keeping it in the fairways will be imperative. Water comes into play on some pivotal holes, so avoiding the penalty areas will be a crucial component to hoisting the FedEx Cup trophy.

McIlroy sits in a strong spot entering the week. Last year, he came from behind and waltzed past Scheffler to win his third FedEx Cup. With nine straight top-9s and his game in form, can the Northern Irishman close it out in Atlanta again?

Scheffler fell short last year, but did he learn his lesson?

Hovland is coming off a historic 61 at Olympia Fields to win the BMW Championship, and he looks dialed in this week. Can he go back-to-back?

Xander Schauffele plays East Lake better than anyone in the field. Only Tiger Woods plays this course better historically. Schauffele won in 2017 and has finished in the top seven in the past six seasons.

So many intriguing storylines are here in Atlanta as the top players in the world will battle it out at East Lake. Of course, they will need to beat the heat too.

2023 Tour Championship TV schedule, coverage, live stream, watch online, channel, FedEx Playoffs streaming

The pga tour's 2023 champion will be crowned this week in atlanta.

tour-championship-fedex-cup-playoffs-trophy-logo-g.png

A season that began last September with more than 150 hopeful PGA Tour members wraps this week at the 2023 Tour Championship with the game's 30 best players still eligible to win the FedEx Cup Playoffs and the $18 million share that comes with finishing atop Sunday's leaderboard. Those golfers continue to trek across East Lake Golf Club for the postseason finale, and it's a field filled with stars, up-and-comers and veterans all looking for one last shot at glory.

That star-studded field was led by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who captured 14 top-five finishes across 23 starts this season -- including wins at the WM Phoenix Open and The Players Championship. Scheffler entered the Tour Championship for the second straight year in pole position at 10 under but fell behind by a single stroke after 18 holes and even further back as the tournament has continued onward.

Scheffler now sits far behind Viktor Hovland, who took a commanding 54-hole lead and is battling at the top with Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Jon Rahm, among others. Morikawa set the stage for low scoring with a 61 on Thursday and broke Tiger Woods' 36-hole record with a 125 through the first two rounds. Still, Hovland's consistent play -- continuing his hot streak from last week's BMW Championship -- has made him a commanding favorite entering the final round.

Enough talking about it. Here's how you can watch as much of the Tour Championship as possible this week. Be sure to stick with CBS Sports for live Tour Championship coverage all day Sunday.

2023 DP World Tour Championship live stream, how to watch online, TV schedule, golf tee times, channel

The race to dubai may have a winner but plenty remains on the line in the european finale.

dpwt-championship-2023-h2w-g.jpg

The DP World Tour season is set to reach its conclusion this week with the 2023 DP World Tour Championship taking center stage at Jumeirah Golf Estates, Earth Course in Dubai. The top 50 players from the Race to Dubai standings will once again take to this par 72 with one eye on a massive payday that could be theirs come Sunday.

Rory McIlroy has already wrapped up the Race to Dubai crown thanks to regular-season performance. Highlighted by a come-from-behind victory at the 2023 Scottish Open, the Northern Irishman has claimed his fifth season-long title on the European circuit. No matter the case, the heavy hitters have arrived and look to put their finishing touches on the calendar year.

Race to Dubai No. 2 Jon Rahm makes his first start since the 2023 Ryder Cup, as does FedEx Cup champion Viktor Hovland. Englishmen Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton and Tommy Fleetwood all hope to continue their fine form. Fleetwood comes in following a nice start at the Nedbank Challenge, while Fitzpatrick won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship his last time out in early October.

These stars have their pick of the litter when it comes to where they wish to play in the world. Adrian Meronk hopes for the same as PGA Tour cards will be granted to the top 10 players in the rankings who do not already have their PGA Tour cards for 2024. The top player among these 10 will be fully exempt and adds an extra layer of drama among the likes of Adrian Meronk, Ryan Fox, Robert MacIntyre and Victor Perez.

Trevor immelman q&a: what to watch at tour championship, the big chair at cbs and ryder cup storylines, share this article.

This PGA Tour season has not disappointed fans in the least bit.

We saw Viktor Hovland steal the BMW Championship with a record-setting and career low round. Nick Taylor’s drought-ending bomb of a putt to win the RBC Canadian Open. Rickie Fowler returned to the top of the leaderboard at the Rocket Mortage Classic.

Trevor Immelman was there to call it all.

The 2008 Masters champion has been perched in the CBS Sports super tower off the 18th green as lead analyst alongside Jim Nantz for a full season now, and we caught up with him to discuss his year in the big chair, storylines for the Tour Championship and how he would go about picking players for the Ryder Cup.

This was your first year in the big chair for CBS. What did you learn now that you've got almost a full year under your belt?

Trevor Immelman

“I’ve had such a great time. It’s just been a blast. The whole process has been amazing. Everybody at CBS from top to the bottom, every role has just been so great, so gracious, so supportive. It’s been one of the best years of my life from a career standpoint, just flat-out enjoyment, just loving what I do day after day.

“I’ve learned a ton. I mean, how can you not working with people like that? From our production team to all the other announcers that I work with, I mean, I’m sitting next to Jim Nantz every week, it’s hard not to learn stuff. Just observing his preparation, the way he ebbs and flows through the shows, the little sweet spots that he likes to go to. I feel like every time I sit down next to him, I’m learning a little something new.

“At the end of the day, shucks, what am I five, six years into the broadcasting game, so I’m still reeling from that standpoint. So in a lot of ways, I’m still adding little pieces here and there. I think it’s extremely important to be yourself and be authentic. You know, I hope to be in this game for a long, long time, because I love it, and I think if you want to be in the game for a long time, you have to be yourself because you won’t be able to keep any kind of act for that long. I get extremely excited watching golf and watching the best in the world compete, because I know what it takes, but I also have an amazing appreciation for the work that they’ve put in to get to that level. I like to allow that excitement to come out when it’s warranted and justified and it feels good.”

CBS has struggled over the years with coverage. This season the network has really turned it around and separated itself from the rest. Why do you think such a big step forward was taken with regard to how the Tour is broadcast?

Trevor Immelman

“I’m not quite sure there’s one little thing you can pinpoint. Taking you behind the scenes just a little bit, I can tell you that we have hundreds of people that come to the compound every weekend in whatever city we’re in. They love the game, they love the PGA Tour, and the good vibes, the respect that everybody has for each other in the compound is really a cool thing to be a part of. When you have that many people pulling in the same direction with one common goal of just trying to be the best you can be and trying to always be there for your teammate and give your best not just for yourself, but for them, that’s when improvement happens. That’s when, the like, the magic happens, so to speak.

“Look, it’s my first season in this role, the first time I’m really starting to get a feel for how things work behind the curtain at CBS, and that’s one of the things that has really struck me this year. It’s an amazing team chemistry and camaraderie with a whole bunch of people from top to bottom. When people throw out the cliches, ‘I consider us one big family’ kind of thing, it’s easy to laugh it off but it’s absolutely the case for us at CBS Sports.”

You said you’ve learned a lot sitting next to Jim Nantz. Do you have a favorite call he’s made this year so far?

“So many. There’s so many. The guy is a genius. He’s so good at his job. He’s so good with his words and the way he communicates. There’s so many smart little things and funny little jokes that he drops in during a broadcast that if you really are paying attention, it’s just fantastic.

“The one that really is the jumping out to me is Nick Taylor’s putt to win the RBC Canadian Open. It was such a cool weekend, we’re up in Canada, it was a big news week for golf. And finally, on Sunday, we could actually just get down to the golf. We had this amazing story of a Canadian trying to break the streak that has been in place for decades of a Canadian not being able to win his national open, and here comes Nick Taylor.

“Earlier on in the week he had signed up to do the walk-and-talk with us on the 15th hole, and now lo and behold, this guy is trying to break the streak, and now he’s leading the tournament and he still goes ahead and doesn’t wave us off. When our crew goes up to him to hand him the ear pods on the 15th tee and he goes ahead and throws them in and we’re talking to him, that was one of the most nerve-wracking times for me than I can ever remember, even from when I was playing. Just knowing where he is in the tournament, feeling his focus, the energy was so intense with the fans and with him leading. We go ahead and do the interview, we kind of get through it unscathed, not paying anything silly or asking him something that’s going to get him out of his sweet spot. Then we have the long playoff and then he makes that putt and Jim gives it the ‘glorious and free’ after that, we were just glued to the window of our booth overlooking the 18 th and we were both standing up looking out onto the green and it was a moment that absolutely jumps to mind.

"Glorious and free!" Jim Nantz with a fantastic call as Canadian Nick Taylor holes an impossible eagle putt on the fourth playoff hole to become the first Canadian to win the Canadian Open since 1954. pic.twitter.com/Sbo56pnJHO — Awful Announcing (@awfulannouncing) June 11, 2023

Does it put the pressure on you knowing that he’s probably going to have something ready to go? Or are you just reacting in the moment?

“I love reacting in the moment because I think it’s so natural and I think that’s what people are experiencing at home. For me, the natural reaction is always going to be better than something that is more staged.

“I have an open mic, what I mean by that is my mic is always on for three hours or four hours, however long we are on the broadcast, my mic is always hot, and there’s a number of times during the show where I have to hit the cough button because I’m laughing at something that he just said, having a little giggle and a chuckle. So it’s a lot of fun.”

What are you most looking forward to at the Tour Championship and what storylines are you locked in on?

Tour Championship

“You look at the top of the leaderboard, let’s just read out the four names here to start: Scheffler, Hovland, McIlroy and Rahm. Come on. These are players that are just so high quality, and this golf course can be a really tough test if we get the right weather. Early forecast is no rain, so that’s what I’m hoping for. I’d like to see the greens as firm as possible. To me, with the current state of the game as far as these players hit the ball and with how good they are, firm greens is really the only way to slow them down. That’s going to be the thing that I’m paying attention to leading into the weekend.

“The main storyline is who’s gonna win this thing? I still do believe that everybody has a shot. I still feel like all 30 have got a chance because I think back to McIlroy last year and how he started not in the lead and triple bogeyed his first hole and still ended up winning the tournament and FedEx Cup. I absolutely think the caliber of these golfers, they’ve all had amazing seasons. When any PGA Tour player starts the season, and they think about their goals, making the Tour Championship is the first thing you write down. For these guys to get to this point, it’s a big deal. They’ve played unbelievable golf all season. You look at some of these names that are just sitting at even par, so they’re gonna start 10 shots back, you’ve got Jordan Spieth, Tyrrell Hatton, Emiliano Grillo, Sam Burns. Burns threw a 62 at it Saturday, who’s to say that he’s not gonna start with something like that on Thursday and be right in the thick of things?

“Is the staggered start a little awkward and unusual? It absolutely is. Golf fans are probably becoming more accustomed to it now, but I only think it’s a little awkward for the first day because you got one guy starting at 10 and then you got a few guys starting at even but once you get to Thursday night, it really all starts to make sense because you can very comfortably see where everybody stands.

“I mean, I’ve got to be honest with you, we’ve had a small army of people behind the scenes helping us over the last two weeks to keep track of the movement and who’s going to be in and who’s going to be out,” he said with a laugh. “It was very challenging for us to keep up with all of that and then communicate it in an understandable way to the viewers. But now, that’s all over and it’s just going to be right in front of you. I think it’s probably the best system that I can think of right now.”

So you like the staggered start format, the starting strokes?

“I just don’t think there’s a better way to do it.”

Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy have elevated themselves into the top tier of pro golf. Why isn’t a player like Hovland mentioned more do you think?

2023 BMW Championship

“I think a couple people really fly under the radar. We’re obviously talking about Hovland, but I would throw Xander Schauffele into the same conversation. When you look at the body of work that those two guys have throughout the season, and multiple seasons, you gotta tip your cap. Both of those guys, along with Scottie Scheffler, those are the three players that did not miss a cut on the PGA Tour this year. That is just fascinating that you can play that many times against such stacked competition, and to never have two days where you’re off your game you miss the cut, that happens to all of us at some point. But for these three guys not to miss a cut, it’s fascinating.

“Hovland, for me, has probably taken the biggest step of anybody this year. He really has, with better short game, turned himself into that upper echelon. I know that he hasn’t won a major yet, so maybe you just put him a tick underneath right now, but he’s right up there and he’s banging on the door.”

As a former Presidents Cup captain I think you've got a really unique perspective on picking a team. Do you think a guy like Brooks Koepka has done enough to earn a spot for the U.S. at the Ryder Cup?

Ryder Cup 2021

“I do. I really do. I have a ton of respect for Brooks Koepka and for his game. The way he competed at the Masters, having that lead going into Sunday. I know he didn’t have his best final round there, but to bounce back from that, learn from that, and then have such a dominant performance at the PGA Championship to win his fifth major, to me, that is pretty spectacular. We’ve seen how he has this uncanny ability to turn his game on what he wants to. He has the respect of all of his peers on the PGA Tour and I do think that that he’s done enough in my book.”

As a captain, how would decide between picking a player who plays for LIV and a guy who plays on PGA Tour? How would you compare success at LIV events to success at Tour events?

2022 Presidents Cup

“Well, there’s a combination of all sorts of things you’re looking at. Of course, it’s form and how players have competed throughout the year, the strength of the tournaments they’ve been playing in, the competition they have been going up against, you’re paying attention to all of that stuff.

“Like I said with Brooks, he went through a handful of tournaments where everybody is pitched up and he performed at such a high level. So that is extremely impressive. You put that on the back of the fact that he’s now won five majors in quite a short space of time, so it’s form for sure.

“The other thing to understand in these team formats, the Ryder Cup and the Presidents Cup, is the majority of the matches you’re going to be teaming up with another player. So how can you create the matchups that put your team in an advantageous position? You’re trying to understand what’s the team chemistry going to be like and how is your locker room going to be. You’ve got 12 alphas. You’ve got however many captains and vice captains who are alphas and you’ve got a lot of ego around. As the leadership of a team, you just want to make sure that you can keep as much drama and distraction out of the locker room as possible so that you can get these 12 players and the captains together on the same page, all working together, all being there for each other and having a blast. When you can do that, that’s when really special stuff happens like with what the Americans have been able to do over the last few team competitions, particularly at Whistling Straits when they had that dominant record-breaking performance.”

It's time for the first major championship of the PGA TOUR season.

Augusta National is primed and ready for the 2024 Masters Tournament after a fabulous finish to the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and the wonderful Drive, Chip & Putt National Final.

Scottie Scheffler recently added a second PLAYERS Championship to his resume. Can the defending champ do the same at the Masters? He is the unquestioned No. 1 player in the world right now, but he will have plenty of challengers.

Here's everything you need to know as the TOUR returns to Augusta.

NOTABLE INVITES AND AMATEURS: Fred Ridley, the chairman of the Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters, extended three special invitations for 2024 to Denmark’s Thorbjørn Olesen , Japan’s Ryo Hisatsune and Chile’s Joaquin Niemann . Olesen, who holds dual DP World Tour and PGA TOUR membership, has won three years in a row on the DP World Tour and finished T6 in his Masters debut in 2013. Hisatsune was last year’s Rookie of the Year on the DP World Tour and has made seven of 10 cuts on the PGA TOUR this season. This will be his Masters debut. Niemann will be playing his fifth Masters… World No. 1 amateur Christo Lamprecht of South Africa headlines the amateur contingent. Lamprecht, who is in the field as the reigning British Amateur champion, made headlines by holding the first-round lead at The Open. Lamprecht also is No. 2 in PGA TOUR University. The other amateurs in the Masters are Santiago de la Fuente of Mexico (the Latin America Amateur Championship winner), Neal Shipley of the United States (U.S. Amateur finalist), Australia’s Jasper Stubbs (Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship winner) and Stewart Hagestad (U.S. Mid-Amateur champion). All of the amateurs except Hagestad are making their Masters debut. Hagestad is playing for a third time; he was the low amateur in 2017.

SIGNATURE EVENT STORYLINES: The Aon Next 10 and Aon Swing 5 for the RBC Heritage will be finalized this week. Though the Masters does not count towards the Aon Swing 5, it could change if Peter Malnati or Thomas Detry are bumped from the Aon Next 10 this week. Malnati and Detry would move into the Aon Swing 5 if they fall out of the Aon Next 10. Click here for the full standings.

COMCAST BUSINESS TOUR TOP 10 UPDATES: Ludvig Åberg and Chris Kirk swapped spots in the TOUR TOP 10 after the Valero Texas Open, with Aberg now at No. 8 and Kirk at No. 9. The rest of the TOUR TOP 10 remained the same… Akshay Bhatia jumped from No. 55 to No. 12 in the standings after his victory and is within shouting distance of the TOUR TOP 10 for the first time… Denny McCarthy , who Bhatia topped in a playoff in San Antonio, moved from No. 85 to No. 19.

FEDEXCUP: Winner receives 750 FedExCup points.

COURSE: Augusta National Golf Club, par 72, 7,555 yards. After multiple changes in 2022 and 2023, there was just one update for 2024, as the par-5 second was lengthened by 10 yards. Over the past three Masters, the second hole played as the easiest each year.

Rory McIlroy, in his pre-tournament press conference at the Valero Texas Open, also mentioned there were changes to the greens on Nos. 2, 4 and 6.

“There's like a back middle hole location on two, there's a slightly bigger area in there where they can sort of move that around a little bit," he said. "On four they've sort of made the back right section a little bit bigger for an extra pin position there. And then six is different, like the top right plateau is definitely bigger and then they've flattened out a section in the back left to maybe have an extra hole location there, too."

72-HOLE RECORD: 268, Dustin Johnson (2020)

18-HOLE RECORD: 63, Nick Price (third round, 1986) and Greg Norman (first round, 1996)

LAST TIME: Jon Rahm won the green jacket in a come-from-behind triumph on a marathon final day at Augusta National. Rahm was four shots back of the leader, Brooks Koepka, to start Sunday and had to play 30 holes due to weather knocking out much of Saturday’s third round. Rahm shot a final-round 69 to win by four over Koepka and Phil Mickelson. Jordan Spieth and Russell Henley finished tied for fourth, along with Patrick Reed.

Boston College falls to Denver in Frozen Four Championship game as Matt Davis shuts out Eagles

By Matt Geagan

Updated on: April 13, 2024 / 9:22 PM EDT / CBS Boston

BOSTON -- Boston College is not bringing home a sixth hockey championship this season. The top-seeded Eagles were shut out by Denver goalie Matt Davis in Saturday's Frozen Four title game, and lost 2-0 in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Davis was incredible all night against one of the most powerful offenses in college hockey, turning away all 35 shots that Boston College sent his way. That included the save of the tournament in the third period, as Davis made 23 stops in the game's final frame. He led Denver to its 10th national championship, breaking a tie with Michigan for the most all time.

Saturday was the first time Boston College was shut out all season. The Eagles were riding a 15-game winning streak, and had outscored opponents 15-5 in the NCAA Tournament.

But they couldn't get any shots by Davis, who was named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament after giving up just three goals in Denver's four games.

"It was a championship battle and they were as stingy and tight as we've seen defensively all year," Boston College head coach Greg Brown said of Denver. "I'm proud of our guys too, not just the season they had but the game tonight too."

"They just used their experience to their advantage. It took us too long to get going. They suppressed us for the first two-thirds of the game," said BC forward Jack Malone, who put just one shot on goal. "I think they have a great team there and put together a good game."

Boston College had a number of good chances in the third period, but they either hit a post or the brick wall that Davis had built in net. He made a flurry of saves over the final 10 minutes, and a handful more over the final minutes after the Eagles pulled goaltender Jacob Fowler.

Fowler was pretty good himself, turning away 24 of the 26 shots that the Pioneers sent at him. He was tested early as Denver controlled the opening minutes, and Boston College didn't attempt a shot for the first seven minutes of the game. The Eagles' first shot was a great opportunity, as Will Smith went in on a breakaway, but Davis denied the opportunity.

Davis rejected three more shots at close range by the Eagles midway through the period -- two by Smith and another by Gabe Perreault -- as Boston College started to find its offensive attack. Davis also made a big pad save on Cutter Gauthier late in the first period.

The Eagles offense was stymied again for much of the second period, attempting  just five shots over the 20 minutes. A boarding call on Boston College's Mike Posma gave Denver a power play early in the period and the Pioneers had chances, but the Eagles' top-ranked penalty kill was able to keep them off the board. Fowler turned away a weak shot by Jack Devine, and junior defenseman Aidan Hreschuk blocked another Denver attempt with the back of his foot to keep the game scoreless.

Gauthier had a great scoring chance in front of the net at the 10:47 mark, but Davis made another great save. Eamon Powell's bid off the rebound went wide, and the game remained scoreless -- but not for long.

Denver finally broke through at the 10:18 mark of the second when Jared Wright snuck a wrister up and over Fowler to give the Pioneers a 1-0 edge. It was his14th goal of the season, but the first in over a month for the Denver sophomore.

Wright had a chance to double that lead a few minutes later when he turned a BC turnover in the Denver end into a breakaway, but Fowler made a nice pad save to turn away the scoring bid. Fowler made another great save less than two minutes later when Denver's Aidan Thompson flew in and fired a wrister on the BC netminder.

There wasn't much Fowler could do about Denver's next shot though. Zeev Buium drew a pair of defenders as he raced into the BC zone and made an incredible backhand feed to Rieger Lorenz, who put in a wrister over Fowler to give Denver a 2-0 lead with 4:44 to go in the second.

So uh, this assist by Zeev and then the shot by Rieger...😶‍🌫️😳 📺 ESPN2 #MFrozenFour x @DU_Hockey pic.twitter.com/0rkGSkfGLv — NCAA Ice Hockey (@NCAAIceHockey) April 13, 2024

That's how the two teams went into the locker rooms after 40 minutes. It was just the second time all season that Boston College was held scoreless through two periods this season.

Boston College got their first power play of the game early in the third, and Ryan Leonard had a chance to cut the deficit in half when he was gifted a wide open net at point-blank range thanks to a great feed by Perreault. But Davis made the save of the tournament, sprawling out to keep the shot out of the net with his forearm.

"MATT DAVIS IS OUT OF HIS MIND!!!!" 📺 ESPN2 #MFrozenFour #SCTop10 x @DU_Hockey pic.twitter.com/EnFT0DHuHl — NCAA Ice Hockey (@NCAAIceHockey) April 13, 2024

The Eagles got just two shots on net during their power play, both of which came off the stick of Leonard and both of which were sent away by Davis.

Smith actually beat Davis with a deep wrister with 12:08 in the game, but the shot clanged off the post. The Eagles had more scoring chances when they went back on the power play with under eight minutes to play, but Davis sent away all four shots BC put on net. He made a nice pad save on a deep shot by Leonard, and got lucky when another deep shot from Gauthier hit him in the facemask.

The Eagles opted not to pull Fowler until there was 2:38 left, despite having a few opportunities to do so a few minutes earlier. Davis made five saves while the Eagles had six skaters, and Denver junior Massimo Rizzo also blocked a shot by Gauthier.

"When it's a one game series you need some breaks in there," Brown said after the loss. "Our guys gave everything they had and tonight wasn't their night."

Saturday was the second time that Denver beat Boston College this season. The Pioneers also beat the Eagles, 4-3, on Oct. 21 in Boston.

It's a disappointing end to what could have been a historic season for Boston College. The Eagles finish 34-7-1, which is tied for the most wins in school history.

They came up short Saturday, but Brown commended his young team for their commitment throughout the season.

"The guys, right from the first practice back on Sept. 1, kept pushing. They grew as a team," he said. "We were young, very young with tons of freshmen. They grew in the first semester, starting hitting their stride, and that loss to BU in the Beanpot hardened us. We played a lot of good hockey after that, right up until today."
