greece italy turkey cruise

Barcelona is a charming, cosmopolitan port on the shores of the Mediterranean sea. This prosperous and bilingual (Spanish and Catalan) metropolis measures up to a city such as Madrid: its museums, theaters, art galleries and nightlife area of an impressive high standard. Besides that, this art and design centre has a lot of interesting sights to offer to its visitors. The best place to watch people go by, to stroll or simply relax, is 'Las Ramblas', a pedestrian street with dozens of outdoor cafes. Here, you’ll find flower-stands, book kiosks and small market stalls where they sell birds and small animals. You’ll also find an endlessly fascinating flowing receptacle of pageant-jugglers, singers, dancers, puppeteers, sidewalk artists, living statues and assorted oddballs on parade. Nearby is 'Plaça Real', with plenty of bars and restaurants, and 'Palau Guell', built by the Catalan architectural genius Antoni Gaudi in his undulating art-nouveau style. After having seen these sights, stroll the narrow winding streets of the 'Barri Gotic', the medieval Gothic quarter full of interesting tapas bars and cafes. Check out Picasso’s old hangout, 'Els Quatre Gats', which has been renovated without losing its bohemian charm. Or head for the old Barceloneta section on the waterfront. This working-class area, which was always slightly rundown and scruffy-looking, is now packed with paella restaurants. The new beach area, which runs from Barceloneta to the Olympic village, is much cleaner than the old beach area. Although some people believe that it has been cleaned up considerably, it might be a wise idea to stay out of the water. Fortunately, the beach itself is already a feast for the eyes (and ears), with its huge and roaring waves.

Messina is a harbor city in northeast Sicily, separated from mainland Italy by the Strait of Messina. It’s known for the Norman Messina Cathedral, with its Gothic portal, 15th-century windows and an astronomical clock on the bell tower. Nearby are marble fountains decorated with mythological figures, like the Fontana di Orione, with its carved inscriptions, and the Neptune Fountain, topped by a statue of the sea god.

If you've ever wondered what sort of prize you'd get for saving Europe, look no further than Valletta. Named after La Valette, the Grandmaster who masterminded Malta's successful stand against the Turkish siege of 1565, Valletta became the city of the Knights of the Order of St John and the seat of Malta's government. While travelling through the Mediterranean, Sir Walter Scott described Valletta as 'the city built by gentlemen for gentlemen'. Today it's a beautifully preserved 16th-century walled city, small enough to cover in a few hours without sweating too much in the Mediterranean sun. In fact, the streets were carefully laid out to channel cool breezes in from the harbour. Situated on the northeast coast of Malta, Valletta is the capital, and is built on the promontory of Mount Sciberras which juts out into the middle of a bay. This dissects the bay into two deep harbours: the Grand Harbour to the east and the Marsamxett to the west. Valletta is a rough rectangle at the tip of a peninsula on the coast, just a few hundred metres across in either direction and thus surrounded by water on its northern, eastern and southern sides. The city was named after Jean Parisot de la Valette who was the Grand Master of the Order of the Knight Hospitallers (Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem). This famed religious order of hospitallers was founded in Jerusalem in the 11th century and made their base in Malta after they were expelled from Rhodes by the Ottoman Turks. During the time of Grand Master La Valette, in 1565, the Knights and the Maltese managed to suppress a siege on the island by the forces of Süleyman the Magnificent, Sultan of the Ottoman Empire in what was to become known as one of history's greatest sieges. Following the siege, the building of the city began in the same year 1565 in order to create a base for the defence of the island. Although Grand Master La Valette managed to lay the first stone, he died before its completion. Most of the embellishments of Valletta were done during the time of Grand Master La Cassiere, especially the magnificent St John's Co-Cathedral. The reign of the Knights of St John eventually came to an end with the successful invasion by Napoleon who occupied Malta on his way to Egypt. A Maltese revolt against the French garrison was the catalyst for the occupation of Valletta by the British in 1800. Valetta is also the spot where the Italian fleet surrendered to the Allies in 1943. Valletta's network of streets is laid out in an orthogonal grid dominated by a main artery which crosses the length of the entire city and opens up into a series of squares at its geometric centre, around the Palace of the Grand Masters. The city architecture is inspired by Italian Renaissance planning principles, and served as an early model of urban design. Valletta is one of the most important planned towns of the Renaissance. It equals in its noble architecture, any capital in Europe, while its timeless beauty and artistic treasures make it a well-deserved World Heritage site. There are a number of superb museums here as well as historical sites that are worth visiting. The main thoroughfare in the city is Republic Street. You'll find all the main shops and character-filled side streets leading off from here. For those interested in shopping, Merchant's Street and Lucia Street are the places to go for the most interesting merchandise. Lucia Street is famous for the exquisite silver and gold filigree jewellery sold there. Merchant Street specializes in souvenirs and is also home to a large open market.

This seaside resort town has grown immensely in the last 30 years, and is especially popular with package holiday-makers from Europe. From a population of 6000 in the 1970s, it is now closer to 50,000, although a high proportion of this are part of the tourist industry and here only for the summer. Many cruising ships travelling around the Aegean Islands stop here, especially because of its close proximity (20km) to Selcuk. Kusadasi is a good base to explore this and other ancient cities like Priene and Didyma. Although there is little of historical interest in Kusadasi itself, the town is popular predominantly because of its many hotels, restaurants, souvenir and carpet shops, and lively nightlife. The Kale district has some old traditional houses and narrow streets, and gives some indication of what the town used to be like. The most famous beach is Kadinlar Plaji, 2.5km south of the town, dominated by huge hotels and can get very crowded in summer. There are several small beaches further south, and closer to town is Yilanci Burnu, the peninsular.

The city of Rhodes is situated on the northern part of the island and has a population of 40,000 inhabitants. The town is characterized by modern blocks of flats, wide streets, stores, squares, monuments, picturesque neighborhoods, neo-classical houses, Byzantine churches and Turkish mosque. The recent touristic growth contributed to the construction of modern hotel units, night clubs, tavernas, restaurants and numerous shops. The sites of Rhodes are varied and interesting. Among them, one should visit the ruins of the Ancient City on the hill of Monte Smith, the mosque of Myrat Reis, the mosque of Souleiman, the Hydrobiological Institute, the churches of Agios Fragiskos, Panagia Nikis, True Cross, Panagia Kastrou, Profitis Ilias and Evangelistira, with the beautiful frescoes created by Kondoglou. One should also visit the windmills, the tower of Agios Nikolaos at the port of Mandraki, as well as the green park of Rodini, a few kilometres outside the city. The most impressive part of the city is the Medieval Town, the dominating walls surrounding it and the Palace of the Grand Magistrates, signifying the city's glorious and glamorous past. One should also visit the museums of Rhodes which are of extreme interest. The Archaeological Museum, housed in the Hospital of the Knights, includes sculpture, pots and several remarkable findings, while the Folk Museum exhibits a collection of traditional costumes and objects of daily use.

Chania/Crete

greece italy turkey cruise

This is the largest and most important town of western Crete, with a population of over 60,000 inhabitants. It is situated on the eastern shore of the bay of Chania, and is built on the neck of the peninsula, on the site of ancient Kydonia. Chania has, to a large degree, retained its local colour. It is one of the loveliest towns in Greece and the many vestiges of its past give it a particular charm. Entire Venetian, Turkish and Jewish neighbourhoods still survive, with well-preserved buildings, while the modern town, continuing to develop, is built according to well-designed plans, with parks and attractive edifices. It differs considerably from the tasteless big towns of today. Chania disposes of a large number of beds in hotels of various categories. There are also pensions and guest houses. There are many restaurants - some of them offering foreign specialities - tavernas, seafood restaurants, "ouzeries", pastry shops, coffee shops, pubs etc. in every neighbourhood and especially in the harbour area, which is lit up by the shop lights in the evenings and sparkles like a fairy-tale town.

Athens/Piraeus

greece italy turkey cruise

Today Piraeus is the home base of Greek shipping, the largest commercial fleet in the world, apace bound to the sea like few others. The harbours of Zea and Mikrolimano as well as Phaliro play host to countless yachts and sailing craft throughout the year. Piraeus was known in medieval times as Porto Leone, a name due to the enormous stone lion, which guarded the port's entrance. Today, the life of Piraeus is centred on its three ports: the main, central one and those of Zea and Mikrolimano. You can walk around the central harbour, shared by cargo and passenger ships alike, and watch the constant comings and goings of goods and people from around the world. Having completed your tour of the central harbour of Piraeus you will then head south traversing the peninsula and arrive at Peiraiki, one of the most picturesque neighbour hoods in the city. Here one finds the harbour of Zea, one of the largest marinas in the Mediterranean. If the night finds you in the area, you can try one of the many bars found nearby. You can continue your tour along the waterfront heading towards Kastella but a small deviation toward the city centre will be useful for then you can visit the verdant square of the municipal Theatre with cafeterias and shops of all kinds surrounding it. The magnificent building housing the Municipal Theatre as well as the Town Hall and the Library complete the picture presented by the main square in the city. Piraeus's little natural harbours are among its busiest and most touristy areas: Mikrolimano, Passalimani, Zea, Freatida and Hatzikiriakio. Countless seaside tavernas provide delicious seafood washed down with the uniquely Greek drink, ouzo. The fresh smell of the sea and the sounds made by the assortment of caiques, yachts and sailing ships, which are moored next to the tables, complete the enjoyment of the food Beyond the port, the most impressive spots are the hills of Profitis Ilias and Kastela with their neoclassical mansions and modern buildings which look as they are hanging over the sea.

Mediterranean Cruise Ports of Call

Discover some of the world-renowned destinations that await you on a Mediterranean cruise with Princess.

Rooted in Greek mythology, Athens is alive with stories from civilizations of the past. On a cruise to Europe departing from Athens, arrive early to tour the remains of ancient lores — like the Temple of Olympian Zeus and Acropolis — dine at the city’s lively tavernas and admire iconic sculptures bathed in natural light within the Acropolis Museum.

Until it was popularized by the 1992 Olympics, Barcelona was a hidden gem amidst Europe’s diverse landscapes. Now it’s widely recognized for its architectural masterpieces and spirited customs. On European cruises from Barcelona, leave enough time before you depart to visit Park Güell — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — and feel inspired by the colors and unique artistry that lies in the park and throughout the entire city.

As one of the greenest islands in Greece, Corfu is an emerald treasure amidst the colorful Mediterranean landscape. From Paleokastritsa, hike to the mountaintop for unparalleled views of the Ionian Sea. Or get a taste of Corfu when you team up with a famous chef, and handpick local produce that they’ll use to prepare your lunch. Experience it all on a Greek cruise with Princess.

On a Mediterranean cruise to Livorno, travel to Florence or Pisa where artifacts abound. Capture snapshots of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, stop by Michelangelo’s David statue at the Accademia and walk up to the “Gates of Paradise” at the Baptistery. Or explore the countryside and meander through the region’s rolling hills that bear vineyards and green olive groves.

Nestled within Boka Bay lies a medieval gem. Kotor is enrobed in ancient houses, palaces and churches that speak to its 12th-century origins. On a Greek cruise, dine on Montenegrin cuisine in the home of a local chef, appreciate 14th-century Venetian art at St. Tryphon’s Cathedral and taste regional wines along the riviera. Or see another side of the city when you kayak through the tunnels of Lipa Cave.

As the largest port in the Mediterranean, Marseille is the gateway to opportunity. On a Mediterranean cruise, spend the day in Arles, and explore the landscapes that inspired much of Van Gogh’s artwork. Stroll through the MuSaMa, a soap museum, and create your own blend alongside a master soap maker. Or roam the city’s most popular landmark, Notre-Dame de la Garden, a Catholic basilica that overlooks the city.

Famous for its beaches and spirited lifestyle, Mykonos is the heartbeat of Greece. Embark on a jeep safari past the city’s windmills, lighthouses and lakes. Walk past temples and marble-lined sanctuaries in Delos, the birthplace of famous Greek gods. Or soak up a day of relaxation on the beach with the city’s Cycladic architecture as your backdrop — all on a Greek cruise with Princess.

Italy’s capital city is something of a dream. Grand chapels and stone angels line the roads, whispering secrets of Rome’s past. On a cruise to Europe from Rome, arrive early to toss a coin into Trevi Fountain. Legend has it, you’ll be guaranteed return to The Eternal City. Then walk in the footsteps of Emperors at the Colosseum, and receive a blessing from the Pope at St. Peter’s Square.

Santorini is the epitome of Greece. Wander into the welcoming cafes in Oia, a village teeming with whitewashed buildings and blue-domed roofs. Continue to some of the world’s oldest vineyards and taste the bouquet of wines produced on the island, making sure to visit the black-sand beach of Kamari before heading back to your Mediterranean cruise ship.

Why Cruise the Mediterranean

In lands where the culture is as flavorful as the cuisine, the splendor of the Mediterranean speaks for itself.

World-Class Dining

Captivating cuisine

With mouthwatering entrees and confections, the Mediterranean invites you to embark on a gourmet tour through iconic cities. Reawaken your taste buds with Italian classics like pastas, pizzas and gelato. Or fill your plate with gyros, keftethes and baklava on a Greek cruise. From breakfast to dinner and every delectable dessert in between, the best is before you with Princess.

Bold reds and crisp whites

The countryside of Italy and Greece are home to some of the most flavorful wines around the globe. With sun and warm temperatures year-round, vineyards are flourishing with grapes by the harvest season. Sip on Italy’s red wines, or sample Greece’s white blends. From sweet Lambruscos to earthy Bordeauxs, fill up your glass on a Mediterranean cruise with Princess.

Ancient Ruins

Where history comes to life

From towers and temples to cities and shorelines, the Mediterranean is sprinkled with remains of civilizations past. Step back in time on a tour through ancient ruins on a Mediterranean cruise with Princess. Imagine life as a gladiator at the Colosseum, explore Greek mythology at the Parthenon and discover the archeological excavations of Pompeii — a lost city and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Art Galleries & Museums

Artistic ingenuity abounds

From the treasures on land to the jewels within museums, the Mediterranean is a true work of art. On an Italian cruise, see portraits from the Renaissance period at the Uffizi Museum in Florence, and admire Michelangelo’s masterpieces at the Vatican Museum in Rome. Or walk in the footsteps of celebrated artists that called these regions home — like Picasso and Dali — and allow their work to spark your creativity.

Sun-Kissed Beaches

A vision of natural beauty

Visions of sparkling coasts and crystalline waters welcome you to the Mediterranean. Dip your toes on the black-sand coast of Santorini on a Greek cruise. Head to Salerno to spend the day in Positano relaxing on the white beaches and admiring the pastel houses that decorate the cliffs around you. Or travel to Mykonos with your loved ones and daydream on the city’s long stretch of golden sand and stroll in the sunshine.

Mediterranean excursions

Our award-winning Mediterranean cruise shore excursions bring you to iconic beaches, landmarks and ancient artifacts. See the yacht-lined shores of Kotor while riding on a tuk tuk, an electric rickshaw. Savor the flavors of “Koum Kouat” liqueur, created from Corfu’s exclusive citrus plant. Or stroll along the streets of Dubrovnik’s Old town, one of the most well-preserved medieval cities in the world.

Local connections

From chefs and beverage makers to artists and guides, meet the many personalities that call the Mediterranean home with our Local Connections program. On a Mediterranean cruise, voyage to an olive tree farm just outside of Provence, and join your hosts for a unique olive oil tasting. Or explore the Archaeological Museum of Naples with a local artist, and accompany them for lunch to dive even deeper in Italy’s art scene.

More ashore

Enjoy even more opportunities to experience the colors, cultures and flavors of the Mediterranean with More Ashore late-night departures and overnight stays. Witness the beautiful sunset in Mykonos on a Greek cruise. Sit front-row for a flamenco dance, and savor a paella dinner during an evening in Barcelona. Or stroll the illuminated streets of Genoa with gelato in hand after a traditional Italian dinner.

Curated comfort, world-class entertainment and international flavors await you.

Our tour guide, Margarita, was sent good and patient, as was Paul, who was on the cruise. Most of the other guides were outstanding, as well. I definitely recommend eating at the hotel in Rome, the food there was better than any of the restaurants in town. Some of the hotels needed some upgrades, but were clean. The experience was amazing and very well planned. I highly recommend this trip!!

Morning study together on the top deck focused on studying Paul’s second time in Rome, this time as a prisoner. Lunch aboard the ship and then the ship will drop anchor at the lovely island of Santorini. Your time here is at your leisure. The best thing to do in Santorini is to take the fast cable car to the top of Fira town and then grab a beautiful place to see one of the most beautiful views on earth. You can also take a beach visit, take a taxi around the island, shop, or even take a snorkel tour. An adventure that previous travelers have thoroughly enjoyed is a four-wheeler tour of the island! You do not have to re-board the ship until 11:00PM this evening!

Ephesus unsplash

  • May 14, 2025

This is the site of Paul’s first letter to the churches in the Book of Revelation. Archeologically, it is considered the pearl of the Mediterranean, as it is the most magnificent archeological site. It is so easy to visit, yet it is full of Biblical truths. Ephesians 1:1-2, and Acts 19 will come alive. Especially compelling is the remaining Temple to Diana or Artemis that is still standing today. In addition, you will sit in the theatre where the Apostle Paul gave one of his most compelling sermons. You will walk the same streets that Jesus’ mother Mary walked and where the Apostle John spent much of his time. Ephesus is only 35 miles from Smyrna and only a 5-hour boat trip to the island of Patmos where John received the Book of Revelation. The day will be very memorable we will end it with a sumptuous Turkish farm meal and lively carpet demonstration. You will have plenty of time to shop and perhaps have a coffee along the waterfront.

We reboard our ship for dinner and sail on past the tiny islands where the Early Church first took root.

mykonos 17156

  • May 15, 2025

This is “the” vacation island destination for Greek families. It is considered to be their “Maui.” You will have so much to do here! You can rent bicycles, grab a towel and hit the beach, meander the dozens of quaint streets filled with shoppers and holiday seekers, or take a trip outside of town to see how the Greeks utilize farming successfully on the islands. This is a day of relaxation for you. For those of you who return early (4:30PM), we will have a study together on the Early Church and Judaism within these islands.

  • May 16, 2025

Another glorious day at sea. If you are up to it, we will have fellowship and worship on the aft top deck before breakfast. We will also get together again this afternoon at 4:30PM for another teaching on Paul’s final journey that took place in the waters we will be passing through and his amazing shipwreck that took place in Acts 27. It is a riveting story and we will be able to trace its steps while aboard ship and discuss the many things that transpired during Paul’s life.

  • Naples/Optional Pompeii and Puteoli Tour

Today you can step off the ship and enjoy the city where Pizza was invented or join our optional full-day tour which visits the small port of Puteoli where Paul arrived for his evangelistic church planting, his imprisonment, and, finally, his death. We will also visit the amazing site of Pompeii today. It is a city of decadence that was caught in a volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 BC. We return to the ship for our farewell dinner together.

Streets of Plaka Athens Greece unsplash

This afternoon you will have some free time to either visit the Archeological Museum or enjoy the quaint streets of Plaka very near our hotel. We will have a farewell dinner overlooking the Parthenon this evening.

Worship Leader, Playwright, Director, Actor, Teacher, and Retired Peace Officer California

Randy was gifted with an incredible singing voice which he first used singing solo in the 2 nd grade at the Christian school spring concert. God continued to use his voice as a worship leader for over 30 years at three different churches which included numerous TV and radio appearances.  In addition to his position as a worship leader, Randy also served as a Sunday School teacher, board member, writer, director, and actor in a passion play entitled “Crucify” which ministered to thousands over the course of many years, resulting in a great harvest of converts and recommitments to Christ.

With strong convictions to never personally receive a salary for doing God’s work Randy was employed as a Peace Officer for 27 years at a corrections facility in San Luis Obispo, California.  As Randy has stated, “God sent me to prison to shine a light in a very dark and needed place.” A member of the Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers, Randy led Bible studies after hours at the prison and courageously led prayer at the flagpole.

What Randy won’t boast about, is his heart for the Lord and his passion for the people.  He humbly serves the Lord with such a gentle ministering spirit and everyone who meets him is touched by his kindness and caring.  He strives to live with a Job-like countenance, rising early to seek the Lord and spending time in prayer.  He is an absolute joy to be around and will be a blessing to travel with.

Randy married his childhood sweetheart Sue at the age of 20 and recently they celebrated their 48 th anniversary.  With 3 children and 8 grandchildren, all faithfully serving the Lord they are truly blessed.  While recently talking to one of his grandsons about traveling around the world his grandson stated “Grandpa, you know you are getting old, right? Are you sure you should be traveling?”  God has a wonderful way of keeping us humble.  Randy said he is looking forward to meeting you all.

This Bible-focused cruise and tour will be fully hosted. The beauty of being on a large vessel it is that we will have access to all of the amenities, the pools, the numerous restaurants, the spas, the shows, the full services of a concierge, room service, workout facilities, walking and running tracks, numerous options on cabin type and so many more benefits, yet at the same time we will have the intimacy of a study group with a teaching pastor that will shepherd us through the journeys of Paul – geographically, scripturally and personally within our group.

The beauty of this type of study trip is that you will depart with forever friends and an amazing personal first-hand experience in the places where the Apostle Paul was enriched by the Holy Spirit. We will be the recipients of this treasure as we walk the streets of ancient Greece, Ephesus, Rome, and Puteoli. We hope you can join us!
