Head to one of these popular LGBTQ+ spaces for a good time
From a historical drag palace to subterranean digs – we've got you covered for where to go for a gay old time. These pubs and clubs serve Sydney's LGBTQ+ communities with open arms, providing safe spaces, thrilling parties and quiet beers with a side of queer most nights of the week.
If you're after some outdoor fun, have a look through our list of gay-friendly beaches .
Pop on your ruby slippers and follow us down the yellow brick road, here's where to find rainbow paths and crossings in Sydney .
Been there, done that? Think again, my friend.
Top LGBTQ+ clubs and bars in Sydney
The imperial erskineville.
- Erskineville
- price 1 of 4
The launching site from the famous bus journey in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert , this pub has been a historical safe space for Inner West LGBTQ+ communities since the early '80s. Head here for regular drag shows, fabulous food, and a killer subterranean dancefloor. Bring your nan to drag n' dine, or find subversive events like Honcho Disko in the basement.
- Gay and lesbian
- Darlinghurst
This Oxford Street venue has nicely cultivated itself into an inclusive hub where you can drink cocktails with rubber ducks in them and see drag most nights of the week, from lively amateur performers to the matriachs of the Pink Mile. The upstairs night club, formerly known as the stalwart Midnight Shift, transforms into a sparkling pop-up dinner theatre most weekends before the dancefloor heats up with the biggest dance parties from GAYM Entertainment .
The Beresford Hotel
- Surry Hills
- price 2 of 4
In a former life the Bero was a famous gay bar, and the gentlemen of Darlinghurst are still well-represented in the crowd (especially on Sunday nights). The prettiest boys in Sydney pack out the courtyard here, and after a few pints, they start to head upstairs to the dedicated concert space and nightclub dancefloor.
The Bearded Tit
The weird and wonderful are welcomed at Redfern’s lesbian-owned neighbourhood art bar. T here is a mix of punters that properly reflects the Sydney rainbow, and nobody gives it a second thought (that's right, a toilet is a toilet here so there's no awkwardness when choosing what door to open). On Wednesday nights, Queerborhood is a welcoming night of queer performance bliss. What it lacks in size, it makes up for in heart.
For many years, a good night out at Arq has meant shaking your booty on podiums, makeouts and makeup tips exchanged in the mixed bathrooms, and some of the most fabulous drag queen production shows you'll see on the Pink Mile. Outside, t he lovingly coined "Trash Alley" that runs alongside the club is where many stories and ciggies (well nowadays, pineapple ice crush vapes) have been shared. It looked like Arq was closing good when it was listed for sale in 2021 . However, blessed be, it reopened in December 2022 .
Kinselas Bar
This legendary Taylor Square hotel boasts a treasure trove of treats and an intriguing history. Nowadays, notorious party starters Poof Doof are taking over the top floor and the middle bar every Saturday night. Expect non-stop bangers and house music all night long, along with show-stopping production numbers and drag go-go dancers. There's also regular events throughout the week with a queer twist, including drag trivia and drag bingo. Or you can just grab a drink and enjoy some seriously good people-watching, Taylor Square style.
Ching-a-lings
The tricky thing about this small Oxford Street bar is finding it, but hey – no sign, no line. The entrance is simply a small doorway behind a friendly bouncer with zero attitude. The rest is easy-peasy. You'll find big vibes in a small space (plus an outdoor wooden deck) and events including queer-centric life drawing nights and lofi drag shows with big camp energy.
The Oxford Hotel
A grab bag of themes, patrons and specials are always on offer at this longstanding corner pub. The basement of this iconic gay bar, known as Undergound, is a boutique bar and club. One level up you’ll find the main (street level) bar with an open floorplan and outdoor deck. On level two sits the recently refurbed Ginger's – dedicated to showcasing cabaret, drag shows and live music.
The Colombian Hotel
One of the best spots on Oxford for kicked-back vibes and a cheeky boogie. This former bank is one of Oxford Street’s more revered and historic gay bars. The Colombian’s spacious street-level bar features cushy booths for a midnight pash, bar-stool seating that screams ‘you’re one chardonnay away from falling off me' and a generous window where punters can sit and people-watch as the hours tick by.
Palms on Oxford
This no-frills dive bar is one of the most beloved clubs on Oxford Street. People tend to head here for daggy, tipple-heavy nights that – more often than not – end up stretching into the wee hours. It's not the cool factor that draws the crowds, who often line-up down the street to get in, but rather the opposite: the messy fun vibes, daggy disco ambience and DJ sets of back-to-back '90s and '00s bangers.

Sydney Shore Excursions
Amazing experiences coming soon., sorry, there are no excursions for this port at this moment., things to do in sydney.
Go in Circles
Sydney Harbour Bridge. Australia.
Circular Quay is the perfect place to start exploring Sydney. You can find the Opera House here and Harbour Bridge is within walking distance. Stride into one of the many walking and pub tours that leave from here. Just 20 minutes away, you can stretch your legs on the iconic Harbour Bridge walk, the first of its kind in the world.
People enjoying Manly beach in Sydney, Australia
Bondi Beach gets all the attention, but Manly Beach in the Northern Beaches is a bit more local. The Corso is lined with shops and restaurants, including local favourite, Hugo's. If surfing is your thing, this is the place to be. The walk from Spit Bridge to Manly is a fantastic way to soak in the city's coastline.
Walk Watsons
Hop on the ferry or one of the regular buses that go to Watsons Bay to enjoy the scenic hike around South Head. During your journey, you'll enjoy views of Sydney Harbour, North Head, the historic Hornby Lighthouse and, of course, the sapphire-blue Pacific Ocean. The Gap offers breathtaking views of the sea from the rocky cliffside.
Local Cuisine
With all the water surrounding you, it's no surprise that seafood takes centre stage on many plates in the city. Head to Sydney Fish Market for giant Sydney Rock oysters or classic fish and ships. Stop into a local pie shop for a traditional Australian meat pie, or explore Sydney's international side with udon or ramen noodles at a Japanese noodle bar, or seek out prawn dumplings in Chinatown.
There are plenty of shopping centres in the heart of the city, including Westfield Mall, Pitt Street Mall and the wonderful Queen Victoria Building, which is now a shopping centre featuring top designers. Seek out cutting boards made from local camphor laurel – they're not only beautiful but also have natural antimicrobial properties. During your Sydney cruise holiday, look for jewellery made from opal, the national gemstone of Australia.

We have just booked a cruise to the Baltics for next year. I am trying to find out the average cost for a day trip to Moscow from STP. I have searched several times, and whilst I have read reviews and reports about the trips etc - I cannot actually see any examples of the costs. I imagine its quite expensive - but we want to do it so I need to budget LOL !!
Any ballpark figures ? :D

We did the Moscow trip through our cruise ship in late July 2008. Its cost was a little under $1000 pp. Now, that cost through this cruise line is a little over that $1000 pp cost. Now, most are using the high-speed rail connection versus the air flights as we did. I have seen some other numbers from other cruise lines and/or private firms that run $700-850.
Why cheaper or the differences? As cruise lines are pressured to keep their "sticker price" low, they need to make up some "margin" with ship tours, beverages, spa stuff, etc., to help cover their costs and gain some profit. Second, different tours provide various features. Our tour included going inside the famed and spectacular Kremlin Palace. Most Moscow tours don't feature that option and you cannot just walk up there and get in on your own. That Palace is where the Czars were crowned and all of the current/recent Russian leaders assumed their powers.
We could have saved a little if we had used a private tour to go to and visit Moscow, but, with my wife's pushing, we felt it was worth it to pay a little more, do it through the cruise line. If there had been any problems or mix-ups, it was the ship's duty to "make it right" and we would not have to worry.
If you have three days in St. Petersburg and/or have been there before, then the Moscow tour can work out very well. It's not cheap, but in my view, worth it!! Both are a few of my visuals from this super great city with such interesting history and dramatic architecture.
THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

One of the Kremlin Wall Towers in Moscow:
Walking on the famed Red Square of Moscow:
St. Basil's sits on Red Square and dates back to its 1555-61 construction on the orders of Ivan the Terrible (Ivan IV). It commemorates the capture of Kazan and Astrakhan and marks the geometric center of the city. This location has been the hub of its growth for Moscow since the 14th century. It was the tallest building in Moscow until the completion of the Ivan the Great Bell Tower in 1600. This church was near destroyed in the 1930’s when Stalin was in control.:
Here is a small sampling of the Kremlin Royal Treasures of the Czars: Eggs & Jewels insicde the famed Armory.:
Moscow’s subways are called the “People’s Palaces” with their marble coverings and unique designs for each of the different and many stations.:
This is the interior for Moscow's most historic church, Assumption Cathedral or the Cathedral of the Dormition, inside the Kremlin walls. It is the mother church of Muscovite Russia. The church stands on Cathedral Square and was built in 1475–1479 by the Italian architect Aristotele Fioravanti. It was erected on the spot of an older 14th century cathedral of the same name:
We did the day trip to Moscow with Alla-tour and were very pleased with our tour. Our guide whose English was great was a wealth of information and the day went very smoothly. I checked the web site and Alla's prices for 2012 range from $884 a person for two down to $542 a person for 6 with the 5% cruisecritic discount. So if you can get a group together the per person price goes down considerably. You can try to do this on the roll call section of cruisecritic.
We did not go to the Palace and as Terry says this is not included generally in tours. However, we did go to the Diamond Fund, an amazing display of crown jewels and jewelry in the Armoury building but not really part of the Armoury. I would think you could include this if you had a small group and really wanted to see it. It is quite small and does not accommodate a large group. You can google "diamond fund kremlin" to learn more.

Below are a few more visuals on Moscow that are more "interesting". Fascinating to having seen both cities, back-to-back. It really puts all of this unique Russian history and architecture in better perspective.
