2006 ford focus cruise control

Hello, I am looking for some info on how to add cruise control on a basic 06 ford focus. Any help would be awesome

lots of info posted here, but you will need to search.

cruise Not on how to put a cruise on a 06. Ive looked

Wow, you get aggrivated about your focus' huh. Nevermind, ill crash it and get a real car.

WTF is that ? wow

2006 cruise control cable

wow that is kind of a harsh reply. i tried searchin and couldn't really find anything helpful either. The whole point of these forums are to help others. Anyway; If you're wanting it to be the factory cruise then you will prolly need several things. obviously you will need the cruise buttons. the rest depends on what may already be in the car. if it's cable driven throttle body then you may need to get the cruise module for the cable system that mounts under the hood. may also need to cruise switch for the brake if it doesn't have it. also once it's all hooked up the bcm may need to be programmed at the dealer for it to work. if you need all the parts then it might be a good idea to find another focus that's being parted out and see what you can take from it as these parts aren't cheap to buy new. Without seeing the car I don't know what all is needed or not, but that's a general idea of what parts might be needed. Here's the link to an aftermarket system you can get. not plug and play like a factory setup (can require some creativeness to get it installed and adjusted), but a less expensive option than buying new oem parts. http://www.thecruisecontrolstore.com/ez-catalog/X380183/0014/focus0007

WOW Lsc, way to show the new guy how welcome he is here! That's a good way to loose a fellow fanatic in a hurry. To be HELPFULL to the OP check this out http://www.focusfanatics.com/downloads/pdf/2000-2007_focus_cruise_control.pdf Being an 06 it will be a little different, but this is basically how to do it. I hope you don't think everyone is rude to people asking a simple question. I have looked fo this info as well, and their is not much info or "how-to's" on the subject. Us 06 and 07 drivers have it rough.

so where is it??? can we find it on your profile? I can't find it either!

2006 cruise control cable

Try a more general search. IIRC they're mostly over in the MkI section so if you just searched this " General Tech Chat" section you'd miss them.

Here's one I found that includes a link to another: http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/general-technical-chat/290017-cruise-retrofit.html?highlight= MkI Interior is a good spot to look for many, MkI has fewer.

Adding Cruise Control 05-06 Wrangler

  • Add to quote

How can you add cruise control to 05-06 wrangler? I keep reading the forums about getting the kit and if you have the pre wiring or not. Does anyone have pictures what pre-wiring you will need and where to find the right parts to add it?

I see jeepsareus have it for 345. Jeep Wrangler Factory Cruise Control Kit You might be able to get it out of a vehicle at a pick and pull. What version is your jeep? Fill out your profile. I am guessing no if an X, but possibly if its a sport or higher. I am not sure how much prewiring there is on cruise. I know X did not get the auto dimming mirror pre wiring but the sport did.

I think that the info you need is at JeepsAreUs.com, see link below and description pulled from that link. The description tells what to look for in the wiring. Jeep Wrangler Factory Cruise Control Kit Description Factory original cruise control for the 2003 to 2006 Jeep Wrangler, 6 Cylinder. The Jeep must have the wiring to accept the cruise. Check for a 4 pin empty female plug near your firewall and brake booster. A custom wiring harness is required if the Jeep was not pre-wired. Please contact us if you have any questions. These kits are discontinued and in short supply.

How to tell if your TJ/LJ is already Pre-wired for Cruise Control - JeepForum.com

How easy is it to install this cruise control kit?

2006 cruise control cable

I'm interested too. I do a lot of highway driving in my TJ. Would be nice to have cruise.

Has anyone done it? I have seen the instructions and the wordless directions look like its going to be a pain the ass.

I looked at my 06 TJ. I figured it would have the harness but it didn't. I don't think I want to mess with it if I have to do all of that wiring.

2006 cruise control cable

I installed cruise control on my LJ a few months ago. Luckily I was already prewired so the install was quick and easy. If you are prewired, the kit can be installed in less than an hour taking your time and in probably 20-30 mins if you've done it before. If you're not prewired, it's obviously going to be much more time consuming and costly but probably not too overly complicated. If you have any questions or need pics of anything let me know.

Universal Cruise Control System by Rostra

Set your speed at the touch of a button! Once selected, a Global Cruise ® cruise control system constantly measures changes in engine loading and vehicle speed in order to maintain a set speed on the highway. Easily set the controls and avoid unintended speeding. To slow down or accelerate, you don't even have to touch the pedal. While column-mounted stalk-style control switches are available, dashboard surface-mount control switches provide the same functionality wherever it's most convenient!

Multiple control switch options!

Rostra's cruise control switches have been designed with the highest level of quality and have been tested and validated for use with the 250-1223 universal cruise control system. Please note that we do not recommend using any other brand of cruise control switch with a Rostra Global Cruise system as doing so may result in unintended cruise control operation, and invalidates any warranty provided with your cruise control system.

Rostra Cruise Controls are manufactured in the U.S.A. by the company that pioneered the development of cruise control technology.

Selecting Global Cruise Components for Installation

The Rostra Global Cruise universal cruise control system is designed to adapt to almost all automobiles that use a mechanically-operated throttle control system where an accelerator cable is present. Please use the Vehicle Search at the top of this page to find your specific vehicle listing, or use the guidelines below to select a cruise control system for your hot rod or street car custom vehicle build.

Step 1: Global Cruise Selection Part Number: 250-1223

Part number 250-1223 (photos below) includes the universal Global Cruise servo motor, throttle cable, universal mounting brackets, wiring harness and hardware package for making electrical and throttle control connections. The servo motor mounts in the vehicle's engine bay.

Step 2: Control Switch Selection Part Number: Various

At Rostra, we currently offer 15 different control switch options for engaging the Global Cruise system while driving. Click here to select a universal or specific control switch for your vehicle. Any cruise control switch from Rostra will adapt to the Global Cruise system.

Step 3: Providing Vehicle Speed Signal Part Number: Various

The Global Cruise system can adapt to pre-existing VSS input signals between 2,000 and 38,600 Pulses Per Mile (PPM). We also offer the 250-4165 magnetic VSS generator for speedometer cable-equipped vehicles, and the inline 250-4160 for early General Motors transmissions.

Step 4: Speed Signal Divider Part Number: Various

While many vehicles provide an electronic vehicle speed signal that the Global Cruise system can use to determine highway speed, in some instances this signal is out of range and needs to be reduced to be safely interpreted. In cases such as this, Rostra offers part numbers 250-4369 and 250-4379 to reduce the onboard VSS by 50% and 75%, respectively. Once the out-of-range signal has been reduced, the built-in programming switches on the cruise control servo can be dialed-in for the appropriate speed setting and smooth highway driving.

Step 5: Clutch Disengagement Switch Part Number: 250-4206 (M/T Only)

Modern vehicles that are equipped with a manual transmission generally include a clutch disengagement switch to provide a neutral safety signal to the vehicle's onboard computer, or provide a usable tachometer signal to detect excessive engine revs. Installation forms 4428 and 4429 can help determine if these signals are presently available on your vehicle. The Global Cruise system can adapt to these devices to disengage itself when the clutch pedal is depressed, or Rostra's 250-4206 can be installed to provide this important safety feature when no NSS information is available.

Step 6: Brake Pedal Signals Part Number: 250-4382

While the included primary wiring harness of the Global Cruise system includes wire leads meant to be attached to both the 'hot' and 'cold' sides of the brake pedal sensor to disengage the cruise control when the brake pedal is depressed, the proper ground signal is no longer present when a vehicle has been outfitted with LED lighting accessories such as LED brake lights. In a case like this, a 5-prong automotive relay must be used to provide the ground signal to cancel the cruise control once engaged. This relay and component wiring harness are available as part number 250-4382 .

Step 7: Purchasing a Global Cruise System

Global Cruise universal cruise control systems and associated adapters are sold through authorized product distributors throughout The United States and Canada, as well as through select international distributors in countries around the world. For purchasing information, or to locate a local retailer or installation facility, please contact us online or call our customer service department by dialing (800) 782-3379, Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST. Frequently Asked Questions

Global cruise application.

Q: Can I install Rostra's Global Cruise system on a motorcycle or ATV?

A: At Rostra, we love seeing the inventive ways in which our customers apply products that we manufacture to a variety applications. But, while a number of online forums exist that detail the multitude of installation options for our products on non-passenger vehicle modes of transportation, due to safety concerns surrounding these installations, we do not actively support these applications. Our technical support is provided through extensive real-world testing that at this time does not include working with said vehicles.

Q: When installing Rostra's Global Cruise system, can I mount the cruise control servo motor to the vehicle's engine?

A: When selecting a mounting location for your Global Cruise servo motor, it is best to take into consideration the deteriorating effects heat and vibration have on all vehicle electronics. Because of the amount of heat generated by a vehicle's engine and exhaust manifolds, we recommend mounting the Global Cruise servo motor as far from these two as possible as heat and vibration damage to the motor can result in our standard 3-year/36,000 mile warranty being voided. For a list of places that we do not recommend, please see below:

  • Underneath the vehicle's fender exposed to the elements
  • Underneath the vehicle itself exposed to road debris
  • Directly to the vehicle's engine with heat and vibration
  • In any location with the cable points towards the ground
  • Near sharp, hot, or moving objects (pulleys, CV shafts, etc...)
  • Near the vehicle's ignition coil (no closer than 10" (255mm)
  • Within the passenger compartment (see Q/A below)
  • Where it will interfere with vehicle maintenance/service checks.

Q: Can I permanently mount Rostra's Global Cruise servo motor on the inside of my vehicle?

A: The short answer - Yes, this is a possibility. While mounting the Global Cruise servo motor within the passenger cabin is certainly an option, installers are warned that the motor itself makes a fair amount of noise as it pulls the vehicle's throttle back and forth to maintain highway speeds. While hot rod owners may never notice the sound of the motor, more modern vehicles that include ample sound dampening from road noise likely will.

Q: The throttle cable attached to Rostra's Global Cruise servo motor is too long for my application. Can I cut it?

A: No. Cutting the throttle cable attached to the Global Cruise servo motor due to its length is highly inadvisable as it can directly impact the throttle cable's ability to move freely into and out of the servo motor. Instead, the servo motor can be mounted in such a way that the cable can be looped to create a shorter distance. Please note that this loop must have greater than a 6-inch diameter.

Q: Do I need to connect the Dark Blue Tachometer (TACH) or Light Green Neutral Safety (NSS) wires from the Global Cruise system's main wiring harness for cruise control operation?

A: While neither the Tachometer Signal wire (for manual transmission vehicles) or Neutral Safety wire (for automatic transmission vehicles) need to be connected for cruise control operation, we highly advise that they are as they provide over-rev protection by disengaging the cruise control system in situations where the engine could be accidentally "knocked" into neutral while driving (NSS/automatic transmission), or when the clutch pedal is depressed (TACH/manual transmission).

Global Cruise Accessories

Q: My vehicle is not equipped with an electronic vehicle speed sensor (VSS). Can I still install Rostra's Global Cruise system?

A: Absolutely! The Global Cruise provides an incredibly dynamic way of controlling speed on vehicles equipped with a mechanically-operated throttle - whether or not they include a pre-existing and/or usable VSS. For vehicles that fall into this category, we manufacture a number of speed signal generators that tell our cruise control how fast your vehicle is moving so that it can effectively hold the speed for you. For Chrysler/Mopar and Chevrolet vehicles manufactured anywhere from the early 1950's to late 1980's (when electronic VSS became standard), we offer part number 250-4160 - a device that is installed between the transmission and speedometer cable to generate a usable speed signal. For vehicles where underbody space is an issue and the transmission rests closely to a crossmember or the vehicle's body, we also offer the same equipment with a speedometer cable extension as part number 250-4153 . For Ford and all other vehicle makes, we offer part number 250-4165 - a sensor that attaches to the vehicle's body and a package of magnets that attach to the vehicle's driveshaft or CV shaft. When the shaft spins and the magnet(s) pass by the sensor, a speed signal is generated.

Fix 2003-2006 Element Cruise Control For Under $44

  • Add to quote

You can FINALLY buy the parts to repair the throttle body and fix the cruise control on your 2003-2006 Element. The part kit, Dorman 977-100, is available on EBay for $38 or Amazon for a few more bucks. You will also need to replace the throttle body gasket which is also available on Ebay (generic version of 16176-RAA-A01) for under $6. Install Instructions (About 1 hour with metric wrenches and sockets): - Remove the throttle body using instructions found in other posts. (You could try to replace the broken part without removing the throttle body but just remember that everything you touch there is spring loaded and you can't see what you are doing.) - Take pictures of throttle body cam assembly from a few different angles so you have a reference for reassembly. - Carefully remove the throttle and cruise control cams/springs/bushings and replace same. - This is a good time to check/replace your engine air filter. - Remove gasket, carefully clean surfaces with gasket scraper, and reinstall throttle body.

  • The replacement piece from the Dorman kit looks to be made of some sort of ABS plastic. I can see this piece falling off again sometime down the line, especially if the cruise control (and thus actuator cable) is frequently engaged.

06 ultra cruise control

  • Add to quote

Has anybody had problems with there cruise control shutting off. While on a ride it happened to me twice. Pretty much scaring the crap out of me. I have not gone harley yet just want to hear some feedback for some ammo if any. Thanks Jeff

One thing that happens is if you shut the throttle at all the cruise will go off. Just resting your hand on the throttle will occasionally shut it off. If it has only gone off twice I would not be too concerned. I just finished a 2000 mile ride in 4 days, 90% on cruise control, and mine (2006 FLTR) shut off quite a few times. The only way you could avoid it is to ride with your hand off the grip all the time- not a good idea for obvious reasons. It really is no big deal- but it does startle you a little. Cruise control is an absolute MUST HAVE for me and I have think the Harley CC is an excellent and well-thought out unit.

2006 cruise control cable

No problems with my CC on my '06 RG so far.

I'm glad to see this thread. I thought it was just me. Sure does make you wake up when it kicks out. I've been trying to find a common instance when it cuts out but I've not been able to isolate yet. Going up a hill, hand on grip etc. HD shop thought my bad motor mount was causing the problem. But it's continued after they replaced. Greg

2006 cruise control cable

I haven't had a problem w/ it shutting off if my hand in on the throttle. My cc did have problems of shutting off, not setting, and then finally quit working on a long trip. It was found to be a bad switch. The switch and wiring loom had to be replaced, good thing it was under warranty.

2006 cruise control cable

I too had issues with the switch, and was able to repair it (by pulling on the stem!). Resting your hand on the throttle shouldn't effect the cruise. My inline throttle cable switch requires pressure to make it disengage, and then there's a felt 'click'. If your idle cable is too tight that could cause it to inadvertantly trip.

I'm getting cruise control on my 08 FLHR. Anyone have any comments on how the HD cruise control is working out with the new throttle?

my 06 Ultra does it when the cruise is set around 81-82mph, I believe theres a automatic shut off when it reaches around 85mph

Is this the procedure of which you speak? 1.) With the Ignition off, push the right cruise switch to RESUME and hold it there. 2.) Push the left cruise on/off button to ON. 3.) Turn on the ignition switch and crank the engine. The GREEN ENGAGED light will illuminate for three seconds and go out. When it goes out, release the RESUME switch. 4.) With the bike still running, push the right cruise switch to RESUME again and hold it while the unit pulls in the slack in the cable. When the engine revs up a bit and the green light goes out again, release the RESUME button and turn the ignition switch off.

My '03 RG started disengaging itself, so I did the cable lash, adjusted the cables again, etc. In the end, I unplugged the switch on the idle cable, works like a charm.

Black Magic said: Is this the procedure of which you speak? 1.) With the Ignition off, push the right cruise switch to RESUME and hold it there. 2.) Push the left cruise on/off button to ON. 3.) Turn on the ignition switch and crank the engine. The GREEN ENGAGED light will illuminate for three seconds and go out. When it goes out, release the RESUME switch. 4.) Thanks for the info. Will try this if it happens again

(2004 manual in my case, section 8, page 101) It will cure your problem. Your idle cable, the one with the cruise control switch, is out of adjustment. Click to expand...

I had a problem on my 05 RKC after 5K service. Every bump I hit would disengage the cruise. I found out they tightened my brake cable to much and every bump would turn on the brake lights and turn off the cruise. With cruise on tap/jiggle on the brake lever to see if it disengages. After a some miles the cable stretched enough to stop the problem.

CC Disengaging I have similar problems with my 03' RKC. Sometimes the CC will engage and operate perfectly meaning it will stay engaged for 100 miles, other times it will disengage multiple times within minutes. Sometimes it will not engage at all. As another person mentioned, i looked for reasons the system would disengage, but nothing really stood out. I just wrapped up a 2700 mile road trip so had a lot of time to work on it. For the most part it worked, but was troublesome when it did not. I am leaning towards faulty switches, i will try some of the suggestions and let you know. Cheers :beer4u: Phil

2006 cruise control cable

I have an '04 Ultra and the first two years mine would sometimes accelerate on it's own. Very exciting! Sometimes it would happen in a place where it was no big deal. Then I'd let 'er go on up to see where it ends. 90MPH and shut off. Also would sometimes just not engage. Other times it would disengage on it's own for no reason. Had it to the dealer several times. It was an intermittent problem. They tried all they could think of including replacement of the module. Then one time the dealer had a "substitute" Service Manager on duty (from their other dealership down the road in Sarasota). They could not repeat the problem on the test ride. SOB'n Substitute charged me a half hour of labor! The bike was still under warranty and they had already done several things to fix the problem, under warranty. Sheesh! The next day I contacted the regular Service Manager and he agreed that I had not been treated fairly and he took care of me by discounting a half hour of labor the next time I had work done. Strangest thing about this story is that the cruise has worked perfectly ever since that day.
