Health Center

Medical emergencies.

For medical emergencies, call 7-3000 from any ship phone.

If you forget your EpiPen and suffer from life-threatening food allergies, EpiPens are available on a case-by-case basis at the ship's Health Center and at First Aid on Disney's Castaway Cay. If, in the event of an emergency, you do not have an EpiPen, notify the nearest Crew Member, or dial 7-3000 from any ship phone.

In the event of a medical emergency, a doctor and nurse are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Occasionally, it may be necessary for a patient to disembark the ship for transport to a nearby medical facility. Please note that medical personnel are employed by a company independent of Disney Cruise Line, and standard prevailing fees will be charged for all services. Fees incurred at the Health Center will appear on your stateroom account. Additionally, because onboard medical services are considered “care outside the United States,” you will be responsible for paying any such charges prior to leaving the ship. The Health Center will gladly provide you with the paperwork you’ll need to process any claim through your health insurance or travel insurance supplier.

For minor first aid, the Health Center stocks over-the-counter medications, bandages and other remedies for quick relief. First aid and over-the-counter drugs are also available at the Guest Services Desk on Deck 3, Midship and at select onboard shops.

Guests who need to refrigerate medication may do so in their provided stateroom refrigerator.

Sharps Container

A small sharps container for the disposal of needles, syringes and lancets is located in each stateroom bathroom. If you need a sharps container in your stateroom and do not see one, please tell the Crew Member who attends to your stateroom and a container will be provided. Sharps containers are also located in public restrooms.

Location, Hours and Phone Number

Hours are 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM and 4:30 PM - 7:00 PM

For non-emergencies, call 7-1923 from any ship phone.

The Disney Wonder

Coupon image not uploaded

When you’re vacationing with Disney, whether that’s Disneyland , Walt Disney World , or on the Disney Cruise Line , it’s easy to forget that the real world exists. You’re immersed in a fantasy world where childhood dreams come true and magic happens all around you. But the truth is, a Disney vacation IS part of the real world, and like it or not, sometimes things go wrong. In past blogs I talked about having to go to a medical clinic in Walt Disney World , losing my driver’s license in Animal Kingdom , and taking a fall in Disneyland . Today I wanted to talk about something we never thought we’d need to do: visiting the ship’s doctor on a Disney Cruise.

The Disney Wonder in port

Towards the end of our recent cruise to Alaska , someone in our party became ill in the middle of the night. At first, we weren’t sure what to do. We called Guest Services, who put us in touch with the nurse on duty. When we explained the situation, the nurse let us know about the three tiers of service that the onboard Disney Cruise Line Health Center offered. First, there was emergency medical services. This would happen if someone onboard had a life-threatening, serious emergency. That individual would be evacuated from the ship and brought to the nearest hospital. This was clearly not the case for us. The second was urgent care, in which we would go to the Health Center without an appointment to get something taken care of right away. She warned us that this was quite expensive and shouldn’t be done unless we were seriously concerned about someone’s condition. This also was not the case for us. The third option, which is what we opted for, was to make an appointment with the Disney Cruse ship’s doctor during regular operating hours. There would be a charge, but the nurse said that in most cases, guests can get reimbursed by their insurance carriers.

On the Disney Wonder, the Health Center is located on the first deck

We arrived at our appointment promptly at 10:00am the next morning. On the Wonder, the Health Center is located on the first deck. All personnel were masked, and some also wore face shields. We were escorted into an examination room where a nurse carefully checked the patient’s vitals. The nurse pointed out that there was a bathroom adjoining the room in case anyone needed it. Dr. Alyssa met us very soon afterwards. She gave the patient a thorough examination and gave us instructions for care. She also gave us a small amount of prescription medication in case we needed it. The doctor also wrote us a letter to excuse us from that day’s shore excursion so that we could get a refund. Since the patient was a minor, she said usually they only will refund for the patient and one adult. However, she requested that both parents get the refund, and this request was honored. She also gave us an itemized bill that we could submit to our insurance for reimbursement. I’m happy to say that we were reimbursed the full amount. She told us to call back that evening to report on how the patient was doing. All in all, the medical personnel at the Health Center on a Disney Cruise did a great job in calming our fears, making the patient feel better, and helping us to navigate the complexities of the end of our cruise. I hope this post helps you to understand what your options are if someone becomes ill during your Disney Cruise.

The Disney Cruise Line Health Questionnaire: One Last Thing Before You Board

You may think you’re done with paperwork after you complete the online check-in process 30 days before your Disney cruise, but not so fast. There’s one last form to complete before you head to the port: The Health Questionnaire.

When do I complete the Health Questionnaire?

The Health Questionnaire will be emailed to you in the wee hours of the morning on your DCL embarkation day. For my cruises in 2022 and 2023, my Questionnaire emails arrived at 5:31 a.m., 5:22 a.m., 5:43 a.m., 5:08 a.m., and 5:12 a.m.   You should complete the form as soon as you see it, though there’s no need to wake up early specifically for this.

All the emails came with the subject line “Mandatory Health Questionnaire / NAME Party / Reservation Number. The lead contact on your reservation may complete the form for all occupants of your stateroom. The form must be completed by an individual 18 years of age or older.

Note: Pre-pandemic this form was distributed on paper as you arrived in the port terminal. Today the form is online.

disney cruise medical

What happens if I don’t get the Questionnaire email?

The odds of this happening are extremely small, particularly if you’ve gotten other pre-cruise emails from DCL. If it’s after 6:30 a.m. and you haven’t gotten your Health Questionnaire, your first step is to check your spam folder. Then ask other members of your travel party whether they have received the Questionnaire email.

If you really haven’t gotten the email, call DCL at 800-951-3532 and ask them to resend it, though be aware that DCL may have limited times that the phones are staffed or you may encounter extended hold times if the lines are open.

If you still don’t have the email, or if you can’t wait on hold, just head to the port. You will have to complete the form in person before being able to board the ship.

What kinds of questions will I be asked?

The questions you’ll be asked may vary slightly depending on your embarkation point and what’s happening in the world at the time of your sailing. In spring 2023, there were only three questions for guests sailing out of Port Canaveral:

  • Will anyone in your travel party be pregnant 24 weeks or more at any point during your sailing?
  • Within the last 3 days, have you or any occupant of your stateroom developed symptoms of vomiting or diarrhea?
  • Have you or anyone in your immediate travel party (occupying one stateroom) tested positive for COVID within the past 10 days or are you currently having symptoms to include: Fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny nose, muscle aches, headache or loss of taste or smell?

In spring 2022, the questions were asked were the pregnancy question above, plus also:

  • Have you or any person in your party had a positive COVID-19 test within the past 10 days?
  • Within the past 14 days, have you or any person in your party had close contact with or helped care for anyone diagnosed with or suspected of having COVID-19?
  • Do you or any person in your party have symptoms commonly associated with COVID-19? This includes a fever (100.4 F/38 C or higher), feeling feverish, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.

During summer 2022, all of the above were asked, plus:

  • Are you or any person in your party currently subject to health monitoring for possible exposure to COVID-19?

Prior to the 2020-2021 pandemic pause of sailing, versions of the questions included:

  • Have you or any occupant of your stateroom traveled from or through China, including Hong Kong or Macau, in the past 14 days?
  • Are you or any occupant of your stateroom experiencing a fever AND [DCL’s emphasis] any one of the following symptoms: sore throat, cough, runny nose, muscle aches or headache?
  • Within the last three days have you or any occupant of your stateroom developed symptoms of vomiting or diarrhea?
  • Have you or any occupant of your stateroom traveled to Guinea, Liberia or Sierra Leone in West Africa within 60 days of the start of your cruise vacation?
  • Have you or any occupant of your stateroom been in direct physical contact (having cared for, lived with, or had direct contact) with a confirmed or suspected Ebola case within 60 days of the start of your cruise vacation?

disney cruise medical

Anything else?

At the end of the Questionnaire, guests are now required to attest to the following:

  • On behalf of myself and all Guests occupying the stateroom listed above I certify that all answers are complete and accurate and I understand that any dishonest or misleading answers may have serious public health implications. The information in this Online Health Questionnaire may be reported to the relevant public health authorities.
  • I/we attest that all the Guests occupying this stateroom: (1) are knowledgeable about their individual risk of developing severe illness if infected with COVID-19; (2) have made an informed decision about cruising based on their individual risk; (3) have decided whether to I consult with a health care provider based on their individual risk; and, (4) agree to follow all health and safety measures during this cruise to minimize the spread of disease, such as wearing face coverings, proper hand washing, coughing etiquette and appropriate physical distancing.

Why is DCL asking me these questions?

In relatively small, enclosed spaces, with many guests touching the same stair rails, elevator buttons, and serving utensils, communicable diseases do have the propensity to spread. If 3% of a ship’s population becomes ill with something like Norovirus or COVID, this must be reported to authorities.

DCL is constantly cleaning and disinfecting high-touch surfaces, and you should be vigilant about washing your hands, but everyone’s jobs gets a lot harder if guests board the ships with a known illness.

Can I skip the Health Questionnaire?

No. If you don’t complete the health form, they won’t let you board the ship.

What happens if I answer “yes” to the items on the Health Questionnaire?

If you answer yes, you will be contacted by DCL and evaluated by cruise line medical personnel. Depending on the timing and the question, you may be called or you may be interviewed and possibly examined at the port.

In many, if not most, cases, the interview/examination will result in guests being denied boarding.

What happens then?

In the COVID era, Disney has been decent about letting folks rebook their sailing for a later date. The current policy states:

Guests who test positive for COVID-19 within 10 days of their sail date can apply their cruise fare toward a future sail date or receive a refund in their original form of payment without Disney-imposed cancellation fees. Please note that travel insurance and cancellation fees imposed by third-party suppliers, including airlines, are not refundable. When applying the cruise fare toward a future sail date: New sail date is subject to availability If an offer was used to book the original sail date, it may not be available or applicable to the new sail date; offer terms and conditions will apply, including blockout dates Guests cannot change their reservation back to the original sail date after taking advantage of this policy If you booked your reservation before December 9, 2022, you can view information about the Flexible Refund Policy  here. Please contact a member of our reservation team for assistance at (866) 325-6685 or (407) 566-7797.

That said, you may want to consider travel insurance to protect yourself financially in case DCL policies change. And read travel insurance plans carefully before choosing one for your family, not all will cover expenses due to denied boarding.

Do people lie on the form?

Look, should you lie? No!

Do people do it? Yep.

The question about vomiting and diarrhea is particularly problematic for some guests. There are numerous reasons why a person might experience digestive distress that have nothing to do with communicable diseases: motion sickness from pre-cruise travel, morning sickness from early pregnancy, chronic irritable bowel issues, certain medications, and so on.

Guests with allergies, asthma, or certain types of cancer might have chronic coughs without exposure to any virus or bacteria.

You know the difference, but DCL might not. While not required, it couldn’t hurt to bring documentation from a medical professional if you’re prone to medical issues unrelated to communicable illness. Also consider whether the Services for Guests with Disabilities form should be part of your pre-cruise planning.

That said, if you’re sick, or if your kids are sick, be a decent human and tell the truth. Please.

And if you’re immunocompromised, you can expect that there will be at least a few ill people on your cruise, despite the questionnaire. Factor that into your planning as needed.

It’s in your best interest, and the best interests of everyone on board your ship, that you arrive healthy for your cruise.  In the two week period leading up to your cruise, do your best to maintain your good health.

  • Stay away from ill people
  • Wash your hands religiously
  • Avoid large gatherings
  • Wear a mask in public and on transportation such as planes and trains
  • Eat familiar foods in moderation
  • Keep home COVID tests on hand and use them if anyone in your party has any COVID-like symptoms

And in general, make sure that you’re up to date on all vaccinations.

What is covered by cruise insurance?

Cruise insurance provides coverage for a range of unforeseen circumstances that can occur during a Disney Cruise. It typically includes medical expenses, emergency medical evacuation, trip cancellation or interruption, baggage loss or delay, and travel delay. Medical expenses coverage ensures that passengers receive necessary medical treatment onboard or onshore, while emergency medical evacuation covers the cost of transportation to a hospital if needed. Trip cancellation or interruption protects against unexpected events that may force a passenger to cancel or cut short their cruise. Baggage loss or delay covers the cost of replacing lost or delayed luggage, and travel delay compensates for additional expenses incurred due to a delayed departure. It is important to carefully review the terms and conditions of the cruise insurance policy to understand the specifics of coverage and any exclusions. (Source: https://www.disneytouristblog.

In today’s fast-paced world, health insurance has become an essential aspect of our lives. Whether you are planning a vacation or embarking on a Disney cruise, it is crucial to understand the importance of having adequate health insurance coverage. The Ultimate Guide to Disney Cruise Health Insurance: Key Tips and Coverage Explained aims to provide readers with comprehensive information to ensure a worry-free and enjoyable vacation experience.

One of the key tips highlighted in this guide is the significance of understanding your health insurance coverage before setting sail. As a traveler, it is essential to be aware of the limitations and exclusions of your policy, especially when it comes to international travel. Most health insurance plans have restrictions on coverage outside your home country, and this can prove to be a challenge if you require medical assistance while on a Disney cruise.

To overcome this hurdle, it is recommended to consider purchasing travel insurance that specifically covers international travel. Travel insurance policies often offer additional benefits such as emergency medical evacuation, trip cancellation/interruption coverage, and baggage loss/delay coverage. These added features provide a safety net and peace of mind, knowing that you are protected in case of unforeseen circumstances.

When it comes to Disney Cruise Line, they also offer their own travel insurance options, known as the Disney Cruise Line Vacation Protection Plan. This plan provides coverage for trip cancellation/interruption, emergency medical expenses, baggage loss/delay, and more. However, it is important to carefully review the terms and conditions of this plan to determine if it meets your specific needs. Comparing the Disney Cruise Line Vacation Protection Plan with other travel insurance options can help you make an informed decision.

In addition to understanding your health insurance coverage and considering travel insurance options, it is crucial to prioritize personal health and safety while on a Disney cruise. Taking necessary precautions such as staying hydrated, practicing good hygiene, and following the guidelines provided by the cruise line can help prevent illness and ensure a pleasant vacation experience.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that some credit cards offer travel insurance as a perk. These credit card benefits can vary, so it is important to review the terms and conditions to determine if they provide adequate coverage for your Disney cruise. However, it is advisable to supplement credit card travel insurance with additional coverage, as it may not offer comprehensive protection.

To ensure the accuracy and reliability of the information provided in this guide, trusted sources have been referenced. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides valuable insights into travel health and safety, offering tips on preventing illness and staying healthy while traveling. The official Disney Cruise Line website is another reliable source, providing detailed information on the Disney Cruise Line Vacation Protection Plan and other travel-related policies.

In conclusion, The Ultimate Guide to Disney Cruise Health Insurance: Key Tips and Coverage Explained serves as a valuable resource for individuals planning a Disney cruise and seeking comprehensive health insurance coverage. By understanding your health insurance policy, considering travel insurance options, prioritizing personal health and safety, and utilizing reliable sources, you can ensure a worry-free and enjoyable vacation experience. A Disneyland guest claimed she was permanently injured when an actor dressed as the beloved character “Goofy” fell on her during a trip to the park.

Katrina Griffin was at Disney California Adventure Park with her daughter on April 3, 2022, when the “traumatic” experience occurred, SFGate reported, citing a lawsuit filed with the Orange County Superior Court.

Griffin had reportedly bent over to tie her daughter’s shoe when the Goofy character allegedly “walked directly” causing her to topple onto the “hard cement.”

The lawsuit, filed in late March, claimed the mascot then fell onto Griffin “with all of his body weight.”

Griffin claims she experienced “severe, traumatic, debilitating, and permanent injuries that necessitated significant medical care” after the accident.

The incident happened at Disney California Adventure Park in April 2022.

Griffin did not give a specific list of injuries she suffered.

The lawsuit named Disneyland, the actor wearing the Goofy suit and the mascot’s “handler” as co-defendants.

Disney Parks employees are assigned to work as “handlers” for the mascots, who ensure all guests have safe interactions with the characters.

The handlers also serve as translators for the costumed workers who can’t speak including Goofy.

The woman, not pictured, claims the mascot fell onto her “with all of his body weight."

Griffin claimed the handler failed to prevent the collision between her and the character, according to SFGate.

Both cast members weren’t identified in the lawsuit, and instead listed as “John Doe 1” and “John Doe 2,” according to KTLA.

The injured guest is seeking a trial by jury to pursue damages related to health care bills and loss of earnings, the outlet said.

She is also seeking damages for negligence, claiming her injuries “will result in some permanent disability.”

Emma McGuinness visited Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon in October 2019 for her 30th birthday where she took the high-speed plunge on Humunga Kowabunga, a near-vertical 214-foot drop.

McGuinness claimed to have gone airborne near the end of her slide down “slammed downward,”

Griffin, not pictured, seeking a trial by jury to pursue damages related to health care bills and loss of earnings because of the collision with "Goofy" actor.

The impacts of the slide caused her swimsuit to “be painfully forced between her legs and for water to be violently forced inside her,”  the suit obtained by WKMG claims .

Riders, who don’t use any rafts or tubes, can reach speeds up to 40 miles per hour on the slide.

Suri Cruise was once the most famous baby in America.

The arrival of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ daughter on April 18, 2006, sparked a global frenzy for the first glimpse of the A-list infant.

But it wasn’t until five months after her birth that she made her debut — on the cover of Vanity Fair, wrapped in the arms of her doting parents, in glossy photos taken by photographer to the stars, Annie Leibovitz.

Now she turns 18 on Thursday and faces a choice: Whether to return to the level of fame she had as a kid — when there were blogs devoted to her fashion — or maintain the carefully-guarded life Holmes has built for her since she blindsided Cruise by filing for divorce.

The dark-haired teen has grown up in Manhattan largely shielded from the spotlight by her loving and highly protective mom, 45, far removed from her 60-year-old father’s Church of Scientology.

As Page Six revealed last year, Suri is estranged from her famous father and the pair have no relationship.

Tom Cruise smiles as he holds Suri Cruise, with Katie Holmes beside him.

An industry source told us this week that the “Mission: Impossible” star has not seen Suri since 2012. “Katie has safeguarded Suri and she’s a devoted mom,” the source said.

“This is a girl who is a private citizen. She hasn’t lived her life in public.”

Holmes told Glamour magazine in 2023 that she likes to “protect” Suri from the public eye “because she was so visible at a young age.”

“I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person. She’s my heart,” she added.

Suri Cruise jumps in the water with her dad Tom Cruise at Disney World.

Being the only daughter of a protective single parent is a stark contrast to how Suri’s life began, of course.

“My whole life I always wanted to be a father,” Cruise gushed to VF back in 2006.

“I always said to myself that my children would be able to depend on me and I would always be there for them and love them—that I’d never make a promise to my kids that I couldn’t keep.

Tom Cruise holds Suri Cruise as they leave her gymnastics class in NYC in July 2012.

“I’m not one of those people who believe you can spoil a child with too much love. You can never give a child too much love. There’s just no way.”

He already had two adopted children, Bella, now 31, and Connor, now 29, from his marriage to Nicole Kidman and after her Vanity Fair debut was happy to parade Suri for the paparazzi.

Cruise had famously declared their romance by jumping up and down on Oprah Winfrey’s couch in May 2005, yelling “I’m in love!”

Tom Cruise and Suri Cruise, in a pink dress, at the Friars Club awards.

But when Suri was just 6, Holmes filed for divorce after six years of marriage with the help of her dad, Martin Holmes, a fierce attorney, and through a secret plan that entailed using burner phones.

Cruise was taken completely by surprise by the filing while he was on the set of “Oblivion” in Iceland in June 2012.

He and Suri were last seen together at Disney World in the summer of 2012.

Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise ride the Schenley Plaza's carousel.

In November 2013, during a deposition in his $50 million court battle against a pair of tabloid magazines, the “Top Gun” star admitted that Holmes had filed for divorce “to protect Suri from Scientology,” court documents revealed.

Despite not having a relationship; as per their divorce agreement, Cruise, who has an estimated $600 million fortune, agreed to pay Holmes $400,000 a year until Suri turns 18 as well as future “medical, dental, insurance, education, college and other extracurricular costs”.

Scientology lies at the heart of the question over Suri’s future.

Tom Cruise carries Suri Cruise on set in Sevilla, Spain.

Holmes, who rose to fame in the TV hit, “Dawson’s Creek,” is believed to have signed multiple non-disclosure documents that will prevent her from ever talking about her marriage to Cruise — and her time inside Scientology.

But when Suri turns 18, NY state declares that she is at the age of majority, when an individual is legally considered an adult. That would allow her to speak about her father, his beliefs and their rift.

Tony Ortega, who has covered Scientology in depth for decades, told Page Six, “Suri would have been too young to sign any agreement, but she will now be free to talk if she wants to and it’s going to be really interesting if she has something to say.”

Tom Cruise holds Bella Cruise, while Nicole Kidman holds Connor Cruise.

We have reached out to reps for Cruise, Holmes and the Church of Scientology.

“Part of why Katie left when she did when Suri was 6 was that Katie would have seen Isabella and Connor going through Scientology,” said Ortega.

Cruise is of course Scientology’s most famous follower and seen as one of its most powerful figures, possibly second only to its leader, David Miscavige.

Tom Cruise jumps on Oprah Winfrey's sofa.

That power has led Ortega and former Scientologists to question what action Miscavige and other top Scientologists may have taken against Holmes and her daughter.

Regular members who quit are declared “suppressive persons (SP)” and those who stay in Scientology are told to completely cut them off.

“We don’t know for sure if Katie was ever declared an SP,” Ortega said.

“If you are a regular church member you could be told to disconnect from your wife and daughter, but because Tom is a celebrity – he’s  the top celebrity – he gets to ignore all this stuff.

“Your average member would be kicked out, but David Miscavige can’t do that with Tom.”

Both Mike Rinder and Jeff Augustine, two high-profile former Scientologists, agreed with this claim.

Suri Cruise and Katie Holmes go dog walking in Central Park, NYC.

Augustine is married to Karen de la Carriere, who was one of the highest-ranking church leaders until she left in 2010 and told Page Six, “The situation with Suri is a larger story about Scientology and the subject of how they make people no longer useful to them or threats to them non-persons.

“It’s like they cease to exist and that’s what happened to Suri.”

Back in August 2020, Leah Remini — one of the most famous celebrities to leave and speak out against Scientology — told us that she believed Cruise, who now lives mainly in the UK , was waiting until Suri is older so he could indoctrinate her into Scientology.

Suri Cruise and Katie Holmes hold hands as they go shopping.

Remini, who attended Cruise and Holmes’ November 2006 Italian wedding at the 15th-century Odescalchi Castle, said, “I’m sure his master plan is to wait until Suri gets older so that he can lure her into Scientology and away from her mother.”

Suri has tiptoed very gently into her parents’ showbusiness world while attending her exclusive Manhattan day school, singing “Blue Moon” in the opening credits of Holmes’ 2022 movie, “Alone Together”.

“I always want the highest level of talent,” Holmes said. “So I asked her! She’s very, very talented. She said she would do it and she recorded it, and I let her do her thing.”

Suri also sang in the film “Rare Objects,” which Holmes also directed.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes hold hands and cuddle after getting married.

Holmes will this year return to Broadway in a revival of Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town”.

She has not remarried but had a six-year romance with actor Jamie Foxx which she kept under the radar before their split in August 2019 and went on to have a brief fling with  Nolita restaurateur Emilio Vitolo Jr. in 2021.

Holmes is careful not to speak out too much about her daughter, who is now preparing for college, once saying, “She came out very strong — she’s always been a strong personality.”

Tom Cruise hugs his children, Bella and Connor Cruise.

But she is now getting ready for her daughter to leave the nest. “You want them to stay with you forever, but they’re these amazing beings, and you have to do everything you can to give them what they need — and then they’re going to go,” she told Town & Country in 2017.

“And that’s going to be very, very sad for me.”

As for the future, former Scientology spokesperson Mike Rinder, who has not seen his own two eldest children since he quit the organization, told Page Six, “Suri is not a Scientologist and never will be…she deserves love and sympathy.”

Disney Cruise Line names its newest cruise ship

I t was bound to happen sometime, but Disney Cruise Line waited until its last of three new sister ships to name one Disney Destiny.

The sister ship to Disney Wish, which debuted out of Port Canaveral in 2022 and the soon-to-debut Disney Treasure arriving in Central Florida this December, the third ship in what was originally called the Trident class had its keel laying ceremony Wednesday at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

It won’t start sailing until 2025, and its home port has yet to be named, but among the details revealed for what will be the eighth ship in the cruise line’s fleet was the theme of the vessel, “Heroes & Villains.”

As such, the filigree artwork for the bow will be of Minnie Mouse wearing a superhero-style outfit complete with a cape.

The cruise line said among the characters from which it will mine features on board will be classic Disney animation films, “The Lion King,” “Hercules” and “One Hundred and One Dalmatians.”

Disney of course owns plenty of good vs. evil intellectual property including Star Wars and Marvel.

“The Disney Destiny will celebrate our most legendary Disney stories and characters, bringing them to life in new and exciting ways exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests,” said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager for the cruise line, in a press release. “As we continue to expand our fleet, the Disney Destiny will further strengthen our position as a leader in family cruising.”

Just like Disney Wish and Treasure, Disney Destiny will be powered by liquefied natural gas, a cleaner burning fuel that’s part of the cruise industry’s efforts to reduce emissions.

All three are the 144,000 gross-ton, 1,254-stateroom vessels but still targeting the 4,000-passenger capacity of its older ships, 2011’s Disney Dream and 2012’s Fantasy. The line’s first ships are the smaller Disney Magic that debuted in 1998 and Disney Wonder in 1999. They come in at 84,000 gross tons with 875 staterooms.

The line also is finishing construction for an Asia-bound cruise ship named Disney Adventure that will be the largest in the fleet at 208,000 gross tons.

Disney Wish became the line’s first new ship in more than a decade. It continues to do short three- and four-night Bahamas sailings while Disney Treasure will pick up seven-night trips to the Caribbean.

Moscow plans measures to woo tourists, Foreign Tourist Card in the offing

Moscow, Russia

To woo tourists from across the world, the Moscow City Tourism Committee is taking several measures and to address payment-related issues the Russian government is planning to come out with a virtual ‘Foreign Tourist Card’, that will enable cashless payments for various services.

During the Covid pandemic, the tourist flow to Moscow had dropped significantly. However, the number of Indian tourists visiting Moscow is slowly witnessing an uptrend and with tourist-friendly measures like e-visa, this number is likely to grow in the coming months.

“We are still on our way to restore the flow of Indian tourists in Moscow like it used to be before the pandemic. Before the pandemic, there was very steady growth like 12-15 per cent on a y-o-y basis,” said Bulat Nurmukhanov, Head of International Cooperation Division of Moscow City Tourism Committee.

Travelling to Moscow has now become easier as tourists from India and 54 other countries can apply for an electronic visa to enter Russia from August 1, 2023.

Moreover, initiatives like the Foreign Tourist Card will help address payment-related issues, after the departure of MasterCard and Visa from the Russian market, Bulat said.

“There is an initiative by the Federal Government of Russia to develop a ‘Foreign Tourist Card’. The initiative is under process, and some legislative documents have been amended in order to make this card possible.

“The idea behind this card is that a person back home in India can remotely apply for this card and then he/she can transfer money from the personal bank account to this bank account,” Bulat added.

This will be a virtual card and this will be issued to the person back home. This card will address the payment-related issues of foreign tourists in Moscow.

To give more travel options to tourists, in March this year, Russian flag carrier Aeroflot increased the frequency of its flight services on the Delhi-Moscow route to seven times a week against four weekly services earlier.

India and Russia “in principle” agreed to revise their bilateral air services agreement earlier this month, allowing Russian carriers to operate up to 64 flights per week from 52 to India.

Russian carriers are allowed to operate these flights to six Indian cities, Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Kolkata, Amritsar and Ahmedabad.

“We are really looking forward to the Indian Airlines to restore their flight connections to Moscow. Right now only Aeroflot is operating flights between Delhi and Goa. However, there are some other options available from Dubai to Moscow,” Bulat said.

In a bid to tackle the language barrier that makes arriving in and navigating in a new country quite intimidating, there are seven tourist centres across Moscow. It also has a call centre for foreign tourists in case they need any help, Bulat said.

“We are working on translating the city navigation into English. Our businesses are really active and quick to respond to what the market requires,” Bulat added.

Moscow cruise port

Region Russia Rivers

Local Time 2024-04-13 19:21

Moscow is a Volga River cruise port, Russia's capital and largest city (population over 12,2 million, metro 17 million). Moscow City covers a total area of approx 2610 km 2 (970 mi2). By population, the city is ranked the world's 14th largest. Moscow is one of the Russian Federation's all 3 federal cities - together with St Petersburg and Sevastopol .

Being Russian Federation's capital, Moscow is a major economic, political, scientific and cultural center, as well as Europe's biggest city.

According to Forbes 2013, Moscow has been ranked as the 9th most expensive city in the world by Mercer and has one of the largest urban economies, being ranked as an alpha global city according to Globalization and World Cities Research Network. It is also one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in the world according to MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index. Moscow is the northernmost and the coldest megacity and metropolis on the Earth. It's home to Ostankino Tower, the tallest free-standing European structure; the Federation Tower, the tallest European skyscraper; and the Moscow International Business Center.

Moscow is situated on Moskva River in the Central Federal District of European Russia, which makes it the most populated inland city in the world. Moscow city is well known for architecture, particularly its historic buildings like Saint Basil's Cathedral. With over 40% of its territory covered by greenery, it's one of the greenest capitals and major cities in Europe and the world. Moscow is the seat of power of the Russian Government, being the site of Moscow Kremlin, a medieval city-fortress that is now the residence of the President of Russia. Moscow Kremlin and Red Square are among the several World Heritage Sites in the city.

Moscow has 2 passenger terminals, North River Terminal (Rechnoy vokzal) and South River Terminal. The regular ship routes and cruises along Moskva and Oka rivers are used mostly for entertainment. North River Terminal (1937-built) is currently the main hub for long-range routes along the river. There are 3 freight ports that serve Moscow.

In late-July 2021 the city announced plans to incorporate a fleet (unspecified number) of fully electric passenger ferries into its public transportation network from summer 2022, the goal being to reduce the dependence on cars.

  • The boats are designed with length ~22 m (72 ft), passenger capacity 42, modern amenities (Wi-Fi, USB charging points, tables for working commuters), spaces for storing scooters and bicycles.
  • Moscow Transport confirmed that two routes (with max daily capacity ~16,000 passengers) have already been mapped out.
  • Passengers will be able to pay via bank cards, the city’s Troika card (smart card for travel by any public transportation) or biometric payment cards. Those with monthly/yearly public transit tickets will use the boats at no extra cost.
  • The new electric ferry service is up to 5 times faster (in comparison to other city public transports) and ~2 times faster than by car.

Moscow cruise terminal

Moscow's cruise terminal is called North River Terminal or River Station  ("Rechnoy Vokzal" / "речной вокзал").

The terminal was opened in 1937 and is one of 2 passenger terminals (the other being South River Terminal) of the city's river transport. North River Terminal is the main hub for long-range (including cruise) shipping routes.

South River Terminal (above photo) was opened in 1985.
