Visiting Nashville

Nashville is the country music capital of the world, but there is more than country music that gave this bustling city its Music City moniker. Nashville is a worldwide music hub for rock, pop, bluegrass, jazz, classical, blues, soul music, and contemporary Christian music. Music artists like Kid Rock, Bon Jovi, the Blackeyed Peas, and Michael Buble have written and recorded their music here. Visitors can experience this rich history with stops at the Ryman Auditorium and the Country Music Hall of Fame, as well as the new National Museum of African American Music.

Nashville is sizzling with a well-earned reputation for amazing food! We're famous for some of the best barbecue on earth, buttery biscuits, and our world-famous Nashville Hot Chicken. In addition to these classic Nashville tastes, the world's hottest chefs are now in Nashville, serving up fresh interpretations to thrill and amaze!

Is parking available near the starting location of the tour?

For the Farmers' Market/Germantown Tour The most convenient option might be to use a car service.

We do not have parking at the Farmers Market because it is only 2-hour parking. If you need to drive, you can park at the Goodwill Lifsey Building 937 Herman Street . This link will show you where it is in relation to the Farmers Market. From there walk through the parking garage of the 909 Flats between 9th Ave N and Rosa L Parks, cross Rosa L Parks and then you arrive at the Farmers Market!

Nashville Enthusiasts

We are Kush & Ana Ratwani. We moved to Nashville in 2020 for Kush’s fellowship at Vanderbilt. When we moved here, the once vibrant music city, full of aspiring songwriters trying to be the next Carrie Underwood and pedal taverns full of brides to be was in a state of hibernation due to COVID. However, that was short-lived, and Nashville is now back to full speed!

We have loved living in Nashville so much so over the last few years that we even got married here in 2021! We feel Nashville has so much to offer, and it would take months to experience everything. From boutique shops to James Beard award-winning restaurants, who can forget live music every night on Broadway?

We started “Grits & Grace” to blog about all of our favorite spots, highlighting why we love Nashville and why we firmly believe it’s the best city in the country!

Let us be your local tour guides on your journey to the Music City.

Romantic Things to Do in Nashville

1. grand ole opry.

It’s THE thing to do in Nashville: The Grand Ole Opry . With multiple live performances a week featuring a range of country stars, this iconic show is great to go to as a couple.

This live show is in the gorgeous Grand Ole Opry House, just a few minutes from downtown. But if you want to dive even deeper into the rich history of this show, take a tour of the Ryman Auditorium, the original home of the Opry that’s located right off Broadway.

2. Take a Guided City Tour

No matter how you get around, there’s a guided city tour in Nashville for you. See the city with the help of a knowledgeable and fun local guide who can share insight about Nashville’s history, architecture, and culture. Or, you can just enjoy having a chauffeur as you sip on your BYOB drinks and enjoy taking in the sights of the city.

Below are just a few of the many ways to take a guided tour of Nashville:

Street Art Tour

One of my favorite things about Nashville is its fantastic street art and murals. These colorful masterpieces are a great theme for your Nashville guided tour, plus they will allow you to get off the beaten path and discover new, fun corners of the city.

Do you have an affinity for the spooky? Hold tight to your partner as you explore the dark side of Nashville with a guided ghost tour . Discover paranormal stories, unsolved mysteries, and sordid histories as you walk through the shadows of Downtown’s vibrant music scene.

Hop On, Hop Off Trolley

Explore Nashville at your own pace through this fun tour option that’s easy to access and fun to ride.

Comedy Bus Tour

If you don’t mind a little kitsch in your getaway, consider boarding The Redneck Comedy Bus Tour , which has excellent ratings and a strong sense of place. A couple who laughs together stays together!

Golf Cart Tour of Nashville

Golf cart tours are a great way to see Nashville at a relaxed pace. Meet your private driver, load up the cart’s cooler with your favorite beverage, and enjoy a guided tour of Nashville’s best sights.

This is a lot of fun for couples because it’s easy to book a private tour with your choice of route, whether it’s pub crawls, a food tour, or a trip to the many art galleries downtown. This is one of our favorite things to do in Nashville TN for couples.

3. The Parthenon

Did you know Nashville is home to a full-size replica of the Parthenon in Athens? You’ll find this incredible sight downtown in the middle of Centennial Park.

If you’re traveling on a budget, you can walk along the exterior and grounds for free. But if you can swing it, I definitely recommend you go indoors for the tour. My husband and I did this in 2021 and thought it was worth the price of admission to see the indoor exhibits – especially the jaw-dropping Athena statue.

4. Belle Meade

If you’re looking for something to do in Nashville, you could visit Belle Meade Historic Site & Winery (formerly called Belle Meade Plantation). They offer historic tours, wine tastings, and various special events.

5. Bluebird Cafe

Bluebird Cafe is an off-the-beaten-path way to enjoy Nashville’s authentic music scene. The all-ages club presents nightly shows from some of the city’s most talented songwriters.

The Bluebird Cafe is in the Green Hills neighborhood, which is a short drive from downtown.

6. Pinewood

Pinewood (formerly Pinewood Social) is a super unique hangout that is a great fit for all kinds of dates. Enjoy a hand-crafted cocktail at their bar, get competitive with a round of bowling, or reserve a spot in their outdoor dipping pool.

7. Shopping in 12 South Neighborhood

The 12 South neighborhood features blocks of charming homes and a stretch of shops and restaurants serving tasty offerings in beautiful settings.

I especially love going to 12 South in Autumn, when colorful trees line the quiet sidewalks. Sevier Park is the perfect place to enjoy some outdoor time, and it’s super romantic – I’ve actually been to a November wedding in the park, and it was absolutely magical.

The shops in 12 South feature upscale yet understated clothing, eclectic housewares, and one-of-a-kind souvenirs.

8. Frist Museum

Frisk Art Museum is a great indoor date idea for couples in Nashville. Wonder freely through the immaculate halls, or join a guided tour that digs deep into the art and architecture of the Frisk.

Another great thing about the Frist Art Museum ? It’s located downtown on Broadway, making it a great place to go during a day exploring the city.

9. Johnny Cash Museum

The Johnny Cash Museum is a must-visit for any fans of the Man in Black. But even if you don’t know much about the country music legend, the museum is a great place to visit with your partner. Who knows? You may leave with a new appreciation for Johnny Cash and his incredible music.

10. Lower Broadway

Lower Broadway is the quintessential Nashville experience. This is Honky Tonk Highway – rows of overpriced dive bars, live music, and themed restaurants.

Looking to make your trip to Lower Broadway even more romantic? Reserve a table at Eddie V’s Prime Seafood , a great (though spendy) fine dining spot for a special occasion.

11. Take a Romantic Stroll

One of the most romantic things to do in Nashville doesn’t cost a thing. Try walking across the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, which stretches over the Cumberland River and looks out over the Nashville skyline. It’s a scenic walk and a perfect way to enjoy quality time as a couple.

12. Visit the Nashville Farmers Market

The Nashville Farmers Market is a great way to spend a beautiful day in Nashville. With an array of producers, makers, and creators, you’re sure to find something to take home.

Their indoor market has incredible food, drinks, and shops. It’s free to enter and has excellent views of downtown.

13. Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum

One of the best ways to fully appreciate the musical roots of Nashville is by visiting the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

Conveniently located downtown just south of Broadway, this great attraction features exhibits like costumes, artwork, cars, and instruments. It’s a great place to walk around with your sweetheart and find your new country music idol.

PRO TIP: Don’t forget to stop by Hatch Show Print, a historic print shop next door to the Country Music Hall of Fame. You can see artists at work, purchase your masterful souvenir, take a tour, or join a workshop.

14. Brewery or Distillery Tour

Like most trendy American cities, Nashville is making a name for itself in the worlds of distilling and brewing. It’s only natural, considering its proximity to the Jack Daniels Distillery. But you don’t have to travel all the way out to Lynchburg to see how your favorite libations are created.

Here are some of the best brewery and distillery tours available in and around Downtown Nashville:

Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery

Green Brier Distillery was once Tennessee’s top-selling whiskey. Now, the family has brought the historic process back to life and offers daily tours so you can experience the whiskey-making process,

Corsair Distillery

Corsair Distillery has two locations in Nashville. I recommend visiting its Marathon Village location – it’s a great excuse to check out this unique and historic part of Nashville, which also features souvenir stores, museums, and Antique Archaeology, the shop featured on “American Pickers.”

Yazoo Brewing Company

Though Yazoo Brewing Company is located outside of Nashville in Madison, it’s definitely worth the drive if you’re a beer enthusiast. They’ve got excellent distribution throughout Middle Tennessee, so you’ll likely see their beer on the menu as you taste your way through the city.

Blackstone Brewing Company

If you’re looking for a super-informative brewery tour, head over to Blackstone Brewing Company , where their state-of-the-art facilities produce incredible beer that honors Nashville’s past and present. Their onsite taproom allows you to enjoy their brews fully.

15. Cheekwood Botanical Gardens

A whimsical garden is sure to harken a spirit of romance and connection. Cheekwood Estate & Gardens is a great place to enjoy quiet serenity with your partner. Meander through vibrant pathways, roam halls of artwork, and take in the stunning scenery, all less than a half hour from downtown.

16. Go For a Hike

Nashville has a lot of great hiking options, and the good news is you don’t have to go far out of the city to enjoy them. Here are a few great places to hike as a couple:

Radnor Lake State Park

This easy, pet-friendly hike is in South Nashville. There’s great wildlife viewing, and it’s such a peaceful place to escape for a quick walk or a relaxing picnic.

Shelby Bottoms Greenway

This East Nashville nature area features five miles of paved pathways and another five miles of rugged terrain, so you can choose your adventure and set off on a peaceful excursion in Nashville.

Percy and Edwin Warner Parks

These spacious parks in the far southern corner of Nashville boast over 60 miles of trails, allowing everything from mountain biking to ADA-accessible treks. Head over to the  Warner Parks website  to choose the best hike for you, and then try another one when you’re ready for your next couples activity in Nashville!

17. Couple’s Massage

A couple’s massage is always a good idea! I recommend booking a spot at  The Lotus Room  or Adagio Massage Co & Sp a   to unwind with your sweetheart.

18. The Hermitage

Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage is the home and plantation of America’s seventh president. Today, couples and families can take tours of the property. There is also an onsite restaurant along with a daily wine tasting.

19. Eat All The Food

Your romantic getaway in Nashville should definitely include great food, but there are so many places to choose from. Need help deciding? Here are some top picks for couples dining in Nashville:

Assembly Food Hall

Can’t agree on where to eat? It happens to even the best of couples! Just head to Assembly Food Hall, the downtown cafeteria featuring mini versions of Nashville’s most iconic restaurants, like Pharmacy Burger and Prince’s Hot Chicken.

Loveless Cafe

Fall in love all over again as you enjoy one of the South’s best restaurants. This West Nashville icon is near the Natchez Trace Parkway, so you can enjoy sightseeing after filling up on a delicious meal of biscuits and fried chicken.

When anyone asks me where to go on a splurge-worthy romantic dinner, I send them to Audrey. Refined southern cuisine and fine wine expertly created by an Award-winning chef. It’s a whole experience that you’ll love.

Coco’s Italian Market & Restaurant

This West Nashville gem has excellent pizza, pasta, and dessert, all served in a charming setting with a friendly staff.

20. Try Nashville Hot Chicken

It’s Nashville’s most iconic food: Hot Chicken. Deep fried chicken is drenched in spicy sauce and served as a sandwich with a pickle. You’ll find it at most of Nashville’s restaurants, but I recommend buying it from a Black-owned business since the sensational food originated in Nashville’s African-American communities and restaurants.

Prince’s Hot Chicken is celebrated as the original, and Bolton’s Spicy Chicken & Fish is also a great option to try in Nashville.

21. Make Biscuits and Gravy with the Southern Belle Biscuit Co.

Your grandmama didn’t teach you how to make biscuits and gravy? No problem! Expert baker Maryann Byrd is ready to teach you and your partner the art of this southern staple in her  Southern Belle Biscuit and Breakfast Clas s.

This is such a fun activity to do as a couple, plus you get to learn a new skill you can share with your family back home!

22. Go Line Dancing (or Take a Class)

Line Dancing is part of the Lower Broadway experience. But you don’t have to be a pro to get down with the best of them. Wildhorse Saloon offers free lessons every day they’re open. You don’t have to register or pay; just find your spot on their expansive dance floor and follow along!

If you’d like to get private lessons or join a group class, Nashville has you covered too.  Urban Cowboy   and  New Boo ts  are great places for line dancing classes in Nashville.

23. Tennessee State Museum

Looking for a free activity for couples in Nashville? Check out the Tennessee State Museum. Located steps away from the Nashville Farmers Market, this sprawling museum is such a gem, especially since admission is free.

Walk through the history of Tennessee, from the earliest plant life to Tennessee’s modern treasures. Don’t forget to head outside on the wrap-around veranda with the best view of the Nashville skyline. That view alone would be worth any cost of admission if you ask me.

24. Attend a Sporting Event

Whether you are a die-hard sports fan or a casual spectator, Nashville is a great place to catch a game. We’ve got professional soccer, hockey, and football that’s all played in state-of-the-art facilities.

Looking for something lower-cost or smaller-scale? Check out our many local universities and colleges. They’ll love having you cheer them on while you enjoy a date night in Nashville.

25. Head to a Winery or Vineyard for Tastings

Wine and romance go hand-in-hand. Good thing there are so many   great wine tastings in Nashville  for you to enjoy as a couple. If you don’t mind a trip outside the city, head south to Arrington Vineyards. This is my go-to spot because I love sipping among the grape vines while listening to live music – and the people-watching is great. Families and couples come for picnics here, even if they don’t plan on tasting any wine.

If you want to stay within Nashville, City Winery is a fun downtown stop that produces impressive wine on tap.
