“We just moved over the summer to the area and I first discovered Kin wines at the Carp Farmer’s Market. Imagine my delight when I was told that their winery is less than a kilometre up the road from the market! Small and intimate venue with a lovely view and welcoming staff, my trip to the winery did not disappoint. I have returned several times and quite enjoy the Civil Grit Chardonnay (unoaked) and oaked Chardonnay 🙂 As someone who searches out both local/ sustainable and biodynamic/ organic wines due to a sulphite intolerance and personal preference, I am happy to be a returning customer of Kin Vineyard. As I said, we recently moved, and used to be close to Niagara. I had feared I would miss my trips to the biodynamic/ sustainable wineries there – nothing to fear – Kin Vineyards is my new fav!” – Iao214 (Read more reviews )

Smokie Ridge Vineyard

This family-owned and operated winery , established in 2007, specializes in northern varietal grapes and has raised over 10,000 vines from infancy. The vineyard itself stretches over 43 acres (17ha) and invites visitors to enjoy a refreshing glass of wine on the patio or take a stroll around the venue. KIN Vineyards

If you have a Sunday to spare, visit KIN Vineyards’ Supper Club to enjoy food, wine, live music and scenic views; it runs from 6pm to 9pm. Alternatively, book a Private Vineyard Tour and Tasting Experience, where you’ll learn what’s grown here and how the vineyard adapts to Ottawa’s cold winters. The winery also offers tastings during its opening hours. It’s about 25 minutes from Ottawa.

Vignoble Clos Du Vully

Growing cold-climate grapes on five acres (2ha), Vignoble Clos du Vully offers tastings of its wine during business hours. Thousands of cold-climate vines thrive on the venue’s clay-loam slope, with five varieties of grape grown on the farm itself and others purchased from two Niagara-on-the-Lake producers. The winery is located about 35 minutes from Ottawa in Navan.

Green Gables Vines

Despite being less than an hour from the city, Green Gables Vines , which gets its name from the traditional Victorian farmhouse on-site, has all the charm of a country setting, surrounded by forest. With soil similar to France’s Bordeaux region, this vineyard is home to over 4,000 vines, carefully selected to flourish in Ottawa’s climate and withstand temperatures of below –31F (–35C). Sample a selection of the vineyard’s wines and learn from the experts about winemaking. Call to make a reservation.

9 Places To Go In Ottawa If You're Obsessed With Wine

9 Places To Go In Ottawa If You're Obsessed With Wine

There is nothing better than a glass of wine at the end of the day.  Or during a meal, or wine tasting, or making your own wine. Let's be real, wine is a great drink and there are so many varieties of it that you'll probably never get sick of it.

READ MORE:  10 Places In Ottawa You Can Get Classy Drunk At

If you're obsessed with wine,  you've stumbled upon the article for you. Whether you're looking to treat someone to homemade wine or just want to try out a bunch of different kinds, you won't be disappointed. So here are 9 places to go in Ottawa if you're obsessed with wine.

See on Instagram

Play Food & Wine // 1 York St

Play Food & Wine has a large selection of wine,  and small plates to go along with that. All of their plates go so well with every type of wine, especially since they have a whole selection of cheese you can choose from.

Vineyards Wine Bar Bistro // 54 York St

Vineyards Wine Bar Bistro is an amazing place to try if you love your wine.  They serve only the finest wines, and of course they serve food as well, but the wine flights are what draws everyone in. You can choose from white flights, red flights or do a mix of both with highlight flights. The best part is that they're not expensive, with most of the flights ranging from $13.95 to $16.95.

Wine Station // 2400 Bank St

At Wine Station, you can choose from over 150 wines to make.  This is a bit of a process, however, totally worth it if you are a wine drinker. It's so nice to be able to love wine and know you made it! You can even make custom labels, so it's a nice gift as well.

Ottawa Tasting Tours // 55 ByWard Market Square

Food tasting + wine tasting = love.  Ottawa Tasting Tours is, well, obviously a tasting tour. It takes you to four restaurants in the ByWard Market and each meal and wine is paired accordingly. This is an amazing tour to do for a birthday, or just to try amazing food and wine in Ottawa!

Jabulani Vineyard & Winery // 8005 Jock Trail

Jabulani Vineyard & Winery is about a 30 minute drive outside of Ottawa, but so worth it. They're only open in the summer, but that's the perfect time to visit anyways. What's even better? The wine tasting sessions are free for up to trying 6 wines. The tours are $20 for each person and lasts around 2 hours, but so worth it since the tastings are free!

DiVino Wine Studio // 225 Preston St

DiVino Wine Studio is an Italian restaurant that has an extensive wine list to go along with their amazing food that they serve. On Thursdays they have a half price bottle of wine, and that’s the perfect time to try out their long list of wines!

Atelier // 540 Rochester St

Atelier is a tasting restaurant in Ottawa that prides themselves on serving ‘New Canadian’ food . I mean, Canadian food is delicious so who wouldn’t be down? Every night they serve a 12 course tasting meal that changes often. Paired with wine, this sounds unreal! There is also a wine tasting every night that is 9 or 10 wines resulting in about 3 glasses of wine.

The Wine Butler // 2701 St Joseph Blvd

The Wine Butler is another make your own wine experience that you can’t miss out on! You can choose from red, white or rosé and they range from prices, all of which are super affordable for 28-30 bottles that you get out of each batch!

North & Navy // 226 Nepean St

At North & Navy, which is a Northern Italian Kitchen , they have a great wine selection however they also allow you to BYOW (bring your own wine) for a $25 corkage fee. Their food menu goes so well with wine, you’ll love the pairing no matter which wine you decide to bring. Plus, they have tiramisu on their dessert menu. Wine would also pair so well with that!

JABULANI NEWS

Jabulani is a Zulu word meaning happiness or rejoice and so this is the place of happiness. It was what Tom said he was feeling as we walked the property before buying it in 2006. When we bought it, it was just a fallow field – nothing on it – but we fell in love with it all the same. Tom had been making wine since he was a teenager back in Africa and we knew we would always be making wine, just never dreamed it would be from our own grapes! Tom has used methods that he learned while visiting the wine regions of the Cape Province of South Africa near to where his grandfather lived. This seems to have given our wines a unique flavour that is favoured by our customers and wine judges alike. To date we have fifteen international awards and five Canadian championship awards, including a Double Gold for our Marquette Chete 2015, and intend on continuing to enter competitions to prove that Canadians can make world class wines.

We started planting vines in the spring of 2007 and our first harvest was in 2010. Jabulani opened its doors in 2011. It was a small venue at that time – a tasting patio with five barrels as tables and the store was run out of the bottom portion of our home.

Today we have eight different varieties of cold climate vines numbering just over 11,000 on 11 acres of the farm. We have expanded the winery to include a separate building from our home and it is there that we not only make our award winning wines but where we also host events such as weddings. There are three favourite locations on our farm where couples have chosen to have their ceremonies; by the pond behind our home, within the old orchard and the most popular has been in our crush pad. The winery can accommodate events of up to 120 people indoors as well as outside at our tasting patio.

Tipsy Turkey (Strawberry field blend)

Strawberry wine/vin de fraises, residual sugar 7.6g/l, $12.00/bottle.

At a vineyard far, far away in Richmond, Ontario, the winemaker always dumped the skins from the grapes and hulls from strawberries into the compost crib at the corner of the farm. No surprise, the local wildlife including deer and turkeys soon sniffed this enchanting source of food and fun. The winemaker was delighted to see new customers enjoying the fruits of his labour, although the turkeys didn’t know “when to say when” and could not walk a straight line after their party at the crib. A beautifully ripe strawberry on the nose and palate, with a hint of raspberry, this summer wine is a blend of local farm’s strawberries and our own Frontenac Gris white wine.
