Explore Cairns

Where to stay, things to do, where to eat, where to stay in cairns.

As one of the most popular tourist destinations in Far North Queensland, finding where to stay in Cairns largely depends on your plans. If you plan to hit the shops, wine and dine, and then explore the city centre, Cairns city is the best spot to base yourself. If you’re dreaming of a relaxing beach holiday, Palm Cove or Holloways Beach may be more your style. There are many precincts with spectacular Cairns accommodation, so you can be sure you’ll find something to suit your budget and taste.

Cairns City

While Cairns may seem small in comparison to other cities, it excels when it comes to modern, affordable accommodation. The city is built around the harbour, so you can find places to stay that offer spectacular views over the water and the city itself. Cairns city accommodation places you in the heart of the action.

Just like the stunning surroundings, accommodation in Palm Cove is truly amazing. With beautiful beach resorts, amazing restaurants and galleries nearby, your stay in Palm Cove is sure to be exciting. Located between Cairns and Port Douglas, Palm Cove is perfect if you're looking for a little more privacy during your visit to the region.

Trinity Beach

Just 15 minutes from Cairns CBD, Trinity Beach is the best place to stay if you want to try out the best golf courses in Far North Queensland. Beachside apartments and resorts are located near the course as well as restaurants and shopping hotspots. Head out to explore during the day and come back to your Trinity Beach accommodation to relax and enjoy spectacular views.

Ellis Beach

If you're searching for beachside accommodation in Cairns, Ellis Beach is a fantastic spot. Approximately 20 minutes north of Cairns, this area is beautifully quiet while being within a short distance to both Cairns and Port Douglas. This gives you the best of both worlds: privacy and easy access to local attractions for sightseeing.

Holloways Beach

Just over 10 minutes from Cairns, Holloways Beach accommodation is what you would call absolute beachfront. With a small dining precinct, the area is a beautiful spot if you want to have a quiet getaway. The location makes it easy to access nearby attractions such as Kuranda, the Botanic Gardens, and Cairns city.

Day 1 - kuranda village, kuranda skyrail .

Your day starts with a coach transfer from your accommodation to Smithfield, where you'll board the Kuranda Skyrail. The Skyrail takes approximately one and a half hours on its journey above the rainforest canopy to Kuranda. In Kuranda Village you'll have ample time to see the sights or visit the world famous Kuranda Markets. After a Skyrail down you'll be dropped back to your accommodation.

cairns trip deals

Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, Cairns Australia, is a world first in environmental tourism taking you on an amazing experience over Australia’s World Heritage listed Tropical Rainforest canopy and deep into the forest.

The Skyrail experience, spanning 7.5kms over pristine rainforest, allows you to explore the wonders of an ancient tropical rainforest and learn about one of the most botanically fascinating and diverse areas on earth.

Gliding just metres above the rainforest canopy in comfortable six-person gondola cabins, the Skyrail journey immerses you in an intimate rainforest experience where you’ll see, hear, smell and become part of the tropical rainforest environment.

Kuranda Scenic Railway

Unfortunately this attraction is unavailable until at least 31/03/24. As soon as it's back up and running it'll be included once again.

Kuranda Village

Kuranda has come a long way from its initial origins as a centre for those choosing an alternative lifestyle in the late 60’s. Historic Buildings from the villages past now house a variety of upmarket restaurants, cafes and bars. It is still laid back, but with a style and sophistication that sets it apart from other Cairns Highlands Venues and Attractions.

Kuranda’s shops and markets with their exotically handcrafted goods, Aboriginal artifacts, restaurants and coffee shops make Kuranda a well known day destination. Kuranda has many varied lunch options (own cost).

DAY 2 - Green Island and Great Barrier Reef Pontoon

Your Great Barrier Reef Adventure starts with a fast catamaran cruise to Green Island. You can try snorkelling, relax on the beach or explore the island ride in your 2 hour stay. After a short cruise you'll arrive at the outer reef Pontoon for lunch, your semi sub ride and more snorkelling. This tour is great for everyone – as there is something for everyone – combines 2 reef tours in one day  - half the day at Green Island and half the day at an outer reef pontoon. Includes semi submarine, underwater observatory, plus additional options such as scenic heli flights, seawalker (helmet diving) and scuba doo (underwater motorbike) and scuba diving. Better snorkling from the pontoon (outer reef) than from green island. Bigger boat – good for people who get seasick. Great for families with young children (as they will love the island and they have space to move around on the pontoon)/ also great for those with elderly family members and families with swimmers and non swimmers as everyone will be happy (plenty of activities for non swimmers)! A good all-rounder.

Coach transfers are not included in this day as most Cairns accommodation is close to the Marina, but they can be arranged if you like.

This tour was excellent. The skipper and crew worked seamlessly through some rough weather to ensure we had the best opportunity to view the reef with comfortable, clean, and safe accomodations onboard. Exceeded all of my expectations, particularly the chance to discover dive with Christine and the delicious food prepared by Zoe and Joost, who also kept us entertained with his fantastic music selection between dives. Good vibes from everyone working with us really made the trip special!

East Coast Highlights - 3 Week | ULTIMATE Tour

East Coast Highlights - 3 Week | ULTIMATE

I'm not really sure where to begin with explaining how insane this 3 week trip has been, but basically, I can't think of a single way it could be improved. Not knowing what to expect was a bit daunting as a solo traveller but after a quick icebreaker, lead by Taylor our tour guide (more on him later), and after a quick walking tour of Sydney, everyone felt comfortable around each other and this became the beginning of what's has been probably the best 3 weeks of my life. The trip goes from Sydney to Byron Bay, to Surfers Paradise, to Brisbane, to Harvey Bay (and fraser island for 2 days), Airlie Beach (and on a boat around whitsunday islands for 2 days), and finishes in Cairns. There were many highlights, but seeing the incredibly unique hippie culture of Nimbin, watching a live crocodile show at the famous Steve Irwin Zoo, flying over Fraser island on a 6 seater plane overlooking the 75-mile beach, off roading in a 4x4 bus in the middle of the forest while singing bohemian rhapsidy at the top of our lungs, swimming in the most crystal clear lake McKenzie, sailing around the most incredible whitsunday islands, seeing the most beautiful sunsets, skydiving over Airlie Beach, Bungy Jumping at the only place you can in Australia and swimming 1ft away from a Reef Shark and a Turtle on the Great Barrier Reef, all stand out. But it's not just the activities that made this trip one of the best experiences I have ever had, the friendships that we made on the 12 hour overnight bus journeys, hostel rooms, long walks in the sun, drinking beer in bars, beaches, nightclubs and even swimming pools and ticking off bucket list items together meant that naturally we have all become friends for life. We have already made plans to see each other again. The organisation of the trip was faultless, even when our kayaking with dolphins trip in Bayron Bay was cancelled due to weather, Ultimate made it up to us by replacing it with Power Boating/Banana Boating when we arrived at Airlie Beach. The trip was made even better by our tour guide Taylor, who is a an absolute Legend. He didnt feel like a tour guide, more of a friend to everyone in the group. He went above and beyond to make sure everything went smoothly and everyone had the best time possible. I couldn't recommend this trip enough. To anyone unsure whether or not to do this trip, I say just do it. It will be the best thing you ever did.

She has been so lovely and I’ve met such a great new group of friends :) very sad it’s over!!

One of my favourite parts of the tour was snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef. I hadn’t been in the sea for 13 years and every time we did a sea activity on the trip I didn’t participate. Shannon was determined to increase my confidence in the water. She helped me with a snorkel mask and showing me how to stay calm and breath. We made an agreement that I would snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef. I was so scared but Shannon was so supportive and helpful, if it wasn’t for her encouragement I probably wouldn’t have done it. Now I love snorkelling, and one week after this I did it again! Thanks so much Shannon, the best tour leader and friend!

Cairns Resort

Cairns Tropical North Queensland Australia

Cairns is known as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and a sophisticated international travel destination with luxury beachfront resorts and rainforest getaways to suit all types of travellers.

Cairns is a safe destination and the weather adds to the attraction even more especially during the months of May to November when it is winter in the southern states of Australia.

The northern tropics have fairly stable temperatures throughout the year with typical daytime min/max temperature ranges in Cairns of 23 to 31 degree Celsius in mid-summer and 18 to 26 degree Celsius in mid-winter.

The Seasons

Some say Cairns only has two seasons and these are known as The Dry Season (May –November) and The Green Season (December-April).

The Tropical Dry Season period or the southern Australian winter period May to November has always been the most popular time to visit Cairns for people from the southern states of Australia that are keen to escape the bone chilling cold of winter yet, the Green Season is when the region is at its absolute finest.

From around October, November the trees start to bud and come into fruit and flower which then starts a whole chain reaction in the world of Mother Nature, not only in the rainforests, but also on the Great Barrier Reef.

This is the prime time to visit Cairns for Ornithologists to see the spectacular array of birdlife in our rainforests, scuba divers and snorkelers to witness coral spawning on the Great Barrier Reef, and the prime time for fishermen from the world over keen to latch onto that monster Marlin or Sail fish.

The animals both on land and in the sea come to life and move about foraging for foods and for a potential liaison with a few friends along the way. In the world heritage listed rainforests of the Daintree and Cape Tribulation the Green Season is the time when you are most likely to see the shyest and most rare of Australian animals running around the rainforest floor and up in the trees with their young.

With the fruiting and flowering in the trees you will also witness massive groups of butterflies of varying types, some with the most brilliant of colours and some equally spectacular birds behind them looking for an opportunity to gorge themselves.

Early on in the Green Season it will at times rain overnight and have a few thunder storms over the mountain ranges but most of the rainfall begins January to March and again most of this activity is in the evening and more localised to the mountain ranges above the rainforests.

When you wake up in the morning the leaves on the trees are a bright green and everything is clean and fresh. The birds are singing and the butterflies are fluttering around making the ambience of the tropics everything that you dreamed it could be.

The oceans of the Great Barrier Reef are a nice warm temperature for snorkelling and enjoying a day out on the reef. Some folks have a big fear of “The Killer Jellyfish” at this time of year but there is a lot of misinformation out there about Jellyfish so if you would like to read a little more about Jellyfish then take a peek here http://www.cairnsattractions.com.au/cairns-jellyfish.php

The Dry Season May to November has some cool evenings and can get quite windy obviously because it is winter in Australia but the days are still beautiful with very little rain. These are the months companies hold major conferences at the Cairns Convention Centre and families and overseas visitors flock to see the Great Barrier Reef and world Heritage Rainforests in their millions.

Cairns Holiday accommodation needs to be booked far in advance as do any of the particular tours and activities that you have on the top of your holiday wish list of things to do on your Cairns holiday due to the high influx of visitors to the region over the same travel period.

Things To See and Do In Cairns

This is also the time of the year that the mighty Humpback Whales and the Dwarf Minke Whales come to birth their calves in the safety of the coral bommies of the Cairns Great Barrier Reef. They normally stay around for several months to the delight of all those guests going out snorkelling and scuba diving. You can even go on a half day whale watching tour to see these gentle giants playing around with each other. The younger male Humpbacks can be very cheeky and inquisitive coming right up along the side of the boat to take a peek at everyone on board.

This is a practise that is in no way encouraged by the Great Barrier Reef boat operators, as it is detrimental to the lives of these animals when they leave the safety of Australian waters, and head back down to the Antarctica where many countries kill them for “so called” research purposes.

Extreme Adventure in Cairns

Cairns is well known as the Capital for Adventure in Australia and the number one destination for extreme activities and outdoor adventure. Just south of Cairns is the mighty Tully River and here you can try Heli Rafting where you are flown deep into the rainforest jungle to the head of a raging river to begin the rafting adventure of a life time over several days.

You can also skydive out of an aeroplane onto a beach or in some cane fields, try a Bungy Jump or go Jungle Surfing, swim with Dwarf Minke Whales and feed huge sharks on the bottom of the ocean. Live aboard a dive boat on the Great Barrier Reef and see the reef in all its glory both day and night.

Take a seaplane out for an afternoon of snorkelling from a solitary sand cay or fly in a helicopter to a remote mountain top with a mountain stream for a swim with your loved one or take a flight up to the Cape for a day of Barramundi fishing in the wild rivers in the middle of nowhere.

There is so much to see and do on your Cairns Holiday you just have to get up here and take a look around.

We bet you will be hooked and make plans to come and visit again.

Cairns travel FAQs

Do i need a covid-19 vaccine to join an intrepid trip.

Trips from 1 January 2023 onwards

From 1 January 2023, Intrepid will no longer require travelers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (excluding all Polar trips and select adventure cruises).

However, we continue to strongly recommend that all Intrepid travelers and leaders get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

Specific proof of testing or vaccination may still be required by your destination or airline. Please ensure you check travel and entry requirements carefully.

How to get to Cairns

Cairns is the main airport for Tropical North Queensland with domestic flights flying to and from most major Australian cities.

There is a train service from Brisbane to Cairns multiple times per week and regular long-distance buses which travel up and down the coast.

Driving is also possible if you enjoy spending time on the road and don't mind long drives.

Getting around in Cairns

The areas in and around Cairns are well signed and easy to navigate. A local bus service is available although your options can be somewhat limited if you are hoping to travel further afield. Taxis and ride-share options are also readily available.

When should I visit Cairns?

Any time of year is a good time to visit Cairns. Summer is hot and humid and perfect for swimming. Spring and Autumn are cooler and the region tends to be quieter. Winter is ideal for those who don't enjoy humid temperatures and the weather is typically good.

If you are visiting between October and May and swimming in the ocean, it is advisable to wear a 'stinger suit' to protect yourself from possible jellyfish stings.

Learn more about wearing a stinger suit in Cairns

What should I pack for Cairns?

Cairns tends to be a casual place so you can leave your fancy clothes at home. Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat are a must, even in winter. If you forget any essentials, it is easy to pick up whatever you need in the Cairns CBD.

What should I wear in Cairns?

Cairns is a laid back destination which means casual clothes or active wear are fine to wear during the day. Smart casual is the norm for restaurants including the more upmarket dining spots in town.

What is internet access like in Cairns?

Wi-fi is readily available throughout Cairns. There can be limited or no wi-fi available for a short time when you're on some sections of road in the Atherton Tablelands and other remote spots. There is no wi-fi signal throughout most of Cape Tribulation.

Can I use my mobile/cell phone in Cairns?

Mobile coverage is readily available throughout Cairns. There can be limited or no mobile signal for a short time when you're on some sections of road in the Atherton Tablelands and other remote spots.

There is no mobile signal throughout most of Cape Tribulation.

Where are the best places to go swimming in Cairns?

It is possible to swim at Cairns’ attractive northern beaches such as Palm Cove, Trinity Beach and Kewarra Beach, but don't go swimming in the ocean around the CBD at any time of year. There is a lot of mud when the tide goes out, along with the occasional crocodile. Instead, head for the large man-made Esplanade Lagoon which is safe and free to use.

What is the best way to see the Great Barrier Reef in Cairns?

If you don't want to travel too far or are visiting with young children, day trips to Fitzroy Island or Green Island are a good option. Full and half-day tours to the outer reef depart daily from downtown Cairns, including a First Nations tour with Dreamtime Dive & Snorkel. Overnight liveaboard trips are also available depending on demand.

What are the best events/festivals in Cairns?

It turns out that Cairns isn't just full of natural beauty with plenty of events and festivals also providing you with plenty of entertainment to take your tropical holiday to another level. Here are a few of our favourites:

  • Cairns Indigenous Arts Fair
  • Cairns Ecofiesta
  • Understory Film Festival

Ready to head outside? With the weather warming up, there’s no excuse to stay indoors. When you’re planning your next vacation, start by thinking about all the fresh air activities you’ve been missing this winter.

Golf, hiking, ORV riding and fishing can be done all across our state. Lots of spots are rolling out spring deals for travelers. So gas up your ride, pack a bag and tap into your sense of adventure.

It’s time to travel and save a few bucks. Here are some of the deals rolling into our in-box this week:

Cadillac Area Golf Deals

For a lot of downstate folks, Cadillac is where Up North begins. There’s great fishing and boating. It’s working hard to be an ORV destination with news coming soon about a new scenic trail network. But already this spring, it’s all about the golf. And there are lots of courses to pick from - and lots of deals to snag.

“The Cadillac area has nine courses to choose from, all within 20 minutes of downtown,” tourism staff said. “Each course has its own unique charm and playability appealing to all skill levels, but they all offer the natural beauty and friendly hospitality that will keep you coming back.

“With two stay and play options, great shopping, and restaurants, as well as dozens more opportunities for fun in the outdoors like ORV trail riding, hiking, biking and fishing - there is so much to see and do in Cadillac.”

Some of the deals are pretty cool. Evergreen Resort (home of the friendly Curly’s Pub) is offering an overnight golf package starting at $155 per person. And the Missaukee Golf Club is letting juniors golf for free. There’s even some Cadillac area ORV deals, and $1 off pints at the downtown Clam Lake Beer Company.

See all the Cadillac area golf deals on the website here.

Drummond Island

Drummond Island's ORV and ATV trails are among the most scenic and rugged in the entire state.

Stay and Play on Michigan’s Drummond Island

What if you needed to drive onto a car ferry for a short trip to reach your next vacation? That can happen if you’re headed to Drummond Island at the very eastern edge of the Upper Peninsula. Drummond Island Resort and Conference Center has a few spring travel packages, all bundled with perks for people who make the drive and want to enjoy a lot of fresh air once they arrive. The golf deals are popular right now, but it’s not the only special on deck.

Second Round of Golf is free with Drummond Island Resort’s Stay & Play Package: “Enjoy The Rock Golf Course with our Stay & Play package that includes a discounted rate on your room or cabin, 18 holes of golf for two registered guests and cart. BONUS second round of golf included for each registered guest. Limited time offer. Available until June 3rd, 2024.” Find more details on the resort’s website here.

Other deals include:

  • Spring Getaway Deal: Enjoy the best of spring on Drummond Island and save up to 15% off regular room rates. Book by April 30th, 2024.
  • Turtle Ridge ORV Park Free Pass Deal: This package is built for the off-roading enthusiast and includes free daily access to Turtle Ridge ORV park for one vehicle during your stay.
  • Family Recreation Package: Get 10% off overnight lodging, a 2-topping pizza, a 2-liter bottle of soda and a round at our putt-putt golf course with this family friendly package.

Travel + Leisure / Tyler Roeland

I’ve been camping and hiking for almost two decades, and the trips I’ve taken in warmer months have been some of my absolute favorites. From cool early morning starts winding down into the Grand Canyon on Bright Angel Trail to tranquil days trekking about Tyresta National Park outside of Stockholm , I’ve covered a lot of ground over the years.

With all that mileage under my belt, plus two years of experience as a professional gear outfitter , I know a thing or two about the clothing and gear you need to have a successful excursion. Now that summer is almost here, outdoor retailers like REI, Amazon, and Dick’s Sporting Goods are offering major savings of up to 75 percent off on products perfect for your summer adventure. Whether your trails are across the ocean or closer to home, some essentials don’t change. Drawing from my years of experience and personal picks, I’ve put together a list including top brands like Osprey , Merrell , and Patagonia to make sure your summer hikes are perfect. Don’t wait — the summer won’t last forever, and neither will these deals!

As a lifelong backpacker, I find REI is always a reliable spot to pick up technical hiking gear. I prefer to wear long pants as long as I can into the summer for protection from the elements, so check out the Patagonia Women’s Happy Hike Studio Pants , marked down thirty percent, or the REI Co-op Men’s Trailmade Pants , a steal at just $35. Don’t forget to pack a base layer with UPF 30 sun protection, like the REI Co-op Merino 185 Long-sleeve Base Layer Top .

  • Patagonia Women’s Happy Hike Studio Pants , $69 (originally $99)
  • Patagonia Baggies Shorts , $41 (originally $59)
  • Outdoor Research Women’s Argon T-Shirt , $40 (originally $55)
  • REI Co-op Men’s Trailmade Pants , $35 (originally $70)
  • prAna Men's Stretch Zion Slim Pants II , $47 (originally $95)
  • Salomon Outpulse Mid Gore-Tex Women’s Hiking Boots , $80 (originally $160)
  • TheTentLab The Deuce #2 UL Backcountry Trowel , $15 (originally $20)
  • REI Co-op Trailmade Waterproof Women’s Hiking Boots , $42 (originally $140)
  • REI Co-op Merino 185 Long-sleeve Base Layer Top , $56 (originally $80)
  • Khumbu FX TA Trekking Poles , $59 (originally $150)
  • Vuori Women's Vintage Ripstop Shorts , $34 (originally $68)

Backcountry

For epic day hikes this summer, Backcountry has you covered. Pair Osprey’s Sirrus 24L Backpack , a fantastic daypack with the brand’s cooling AirSpeed mesh back panel, with a light and protective Mountain Hardwear Women’s Crater Lake Long-Sleeve Hoodie , 50 percent off on Backcountry, for an unbeatable setup. And don’t forget to pick up a Patagonia pullover for chilly mornings and evenings on the trail while it’s up to 55 percent off.

  • Patagonia Men’s Microdini 1/2-Zip Pullover , $71 (originally $125)
  • Patagonia Women’s Maipo 7/8 Tight , $35 (originally $99)
  • Osprey Packs Women’s Sirrus 24L Backpack , $135 (originally $180)
  • The North Face Men’s Sprag 5-Pocket Pant , $56 (originally $80)

  • Black Diamond Women’s Notion SP Pant , $60 (originally $100)
  • Mountain Hardwear Women’s Crater Lake Long-Sleeve Hoodie , $30 (originally $60)
  • Outdoor Research Women’s Astro Short , $21 (originally $68)

Osprey Packs Sirrus 24L Backpack

As you may have noticed, sun protection is the name of the game on summer treks. Whether it’s at your local lakefront or on dusty desert trails, I can personally attest to how sun exposure can ruin a trip. Wide-brim hats, especially ones with neck coverings like the Sunday Afternoons Unisex Ultra-Adventure Hat (on sale for $32) are game-changing, as are breathable pants with UPF protection like the water-resistant (and best-selling) Baleaf Women's Hiking Pants , marked down to $37 and UPF sweat-wicking tops like this Baleaf UPF 50+ Hiking Shirt for 44 percent off.

  • Baleaf Women's Hiking Pants , $37 (originally $56)
  • Baleaf Women's UPF 50+ Sun Shirt , $20 (originally $36)
  • Sunday Afternoons Unisex Ultra-Adventure Hat , $32 (originally $42)
  • LifeStraw Personal Water Filter for Hiking, Camping, Travel , $15 (originally $20)
  • Merrell Men's Moab 3 Hiking Shoe , $80 (originally $120)
  • Klymit Single Traverse Hammock , $41 (originally $60)
  • Adidas Women's Terrex AX3 Hiking Shoe , $64 (originally $80)
  • Anker Portable Charger , $16 (originally $18)
  • Asfixiado Women's Hiking Cargo Shorts , $8 (originally $16)
  • Columbia Men's Tamiami Ii Ls Shirt, $49 (originally $55)
  • Trail Buddy Collapsible Trekking Hiking Poles , $34 (originally $40)
  • G4Free 10L/15L Packable Lightweight Hiking Backpack , $17 (originally $19)

Baleaf Women’s Hiking Pants

Trail buddy collapsible trekking hiking poles.

I love my long pants, but it’s hard to beat a pair of shorts you can take everywhere over the summer. My collection of Patagonia shorts grows every year, and I especially love their natural pairs like these Men's Lightweight All-Wear Hemp 7in Volley Shorts , a bargain at over 50 percent off. For active wear, sweat-wicking movement-friendly clothing like the Columbia Women's Pleasant Creek Stretch Short , on sale for $32, or Under Armour Men's Tech 2.0 Short Sleeve T-Shirt , a score at $12, are perfect for summer treks. No matter where you’re going, safety should always be a priority — I stash first-aid kids from Adventure Medical anywhere I can, and their Backpacker Medical Kit is a must-buy while it’s 50 percent off.

  • Nike Women’s One High-Rise Leggings , $28 (originally $60)
  • The North Face Women's Aphrodite Jogger Pants , $36 (originally $80)
  • The North Face Women’s Arque Hike Dress , $46 (originally $110)
  • Osprey Hikelite 18 Technical Pack , $66 (originally $120)
  • Danner Men's Trail 2650 GTX Waterproof Hiking Shoes , $190 (originally $210)
  • Patagonia Men's Lightweight All-Wear Hemp 7in Volley Shorts , $36 (originally $75)
  • Patagonia Women’s 5-inch Baggies Shorts , $28 (originally $59)
  • Under Armour Men's Tech 2.0 Short Sleeve T-Shirt , $12 (originally $25)
  • Adventure Medical Kit The Backpacker Medical Kit , $24 (originally $48)
  • Columbia Women's Pleasant Creek Stretch Short , $32 (originally $45)

Nike Women’s One High-Rise Leggings

It’s hard to understate how important a good pair of shoes can be, especially for adventure lovers who refuse to be slowed down by blisters and rugged terrain. It’s most obvious on long trails — I’ve talked to a number of Appalachian Trail thru-hikers who say the Altra Lone Peak 7 literally saved their feet, making them a serious deal at 34 percent off. I’ve loved the roomy toe-box in all the Altras I’ve worn, and for a more classic hiking shoe, I can also vouch for these sturdy Keen Women’s Targhee III Mid Waterproof , marked down 22 percent. Even for shorter jaunts, dialing in a great fit can make all the difference. I’ve put a ton of miles on my Chaco Women’s Z/Cloud X2 sandals, a score at 30 percent off, and their super-adjustable straps make it easy to tailor their fit for maximum comfort.

  • Chaco Women’s Z/Cloud X2 , $70 (originally $100)
  • Salomon Men’s Cross Hike Mid GTX 2 , $123 (originally $180)
  • Columbia Women’s Newton Ridge Plus Waterproof Amped , $75 (originally $100)
  • Hoka Men’s Hopara Sandals , $102 (originally $135)
  • New Balance Men’s Fresh Foam X Hierro v7 , $96 (originally $140)
  • Altra Men’s Lone Peak 7 , $99 (originally $150)
  • Saucony Men’s Peregrine 13 , $98 (originally $140)
  • KEEN Women’s Targhee III Mid Waterproof , $129 (originally $165)
  • SOREL Women’s Lennox Hiker STKD Waterproof , $106 (originally $200)
  • Salomon Women’s Quest 4 GTX , $165 (originally $230)
