How to fast travel in Path Of Exile

Where to find Waypoints and Portal Scrolls

Path Of Exile’s huge world of Wraeclast takes some traversal. With all the different locations and acts to get through, it might be tough to find your way around. Thankfully, you have a couple of ways to quickly access places you’ve already been.

Here’s how to fast travel in Path Of Exile.

How do I fast travel in Path Of Exile?

Fast travel is pretty simple in Path Of Exile. All you need to do is find Waypoints, available in most areas including towns. Waypoints for fast travel are the bright blue rune-looking object on the floor - check out the image above for an example.

Just click on it and you’ll be given the option to quickly move to any previously-visited Waypoint. You can travel between different acts and parts of the world by clicking the ‘Act’ tabs at the top of the map that opens when you click the Waypoint too.

Your missions are available underneath the map graphic so you can easily see where you should be aiming for.

How to fast travel to special locations

Some areas, like the Sacred Grove and the Menagerie can be fast-travelled to with console commands. For full info on this, check out our guide on Path Of Exile’s chat commands, but for your convenience, here are some fast travel commands you might need:

  • /menagerie: Fast travels to your Menagerie from town.
  • /delve: Fast travels to your Azurite Mine from town.
  • /harvest: Fast travels to your Sacred Grove from town.
  • /metamorph: Fast travels to Tane's Laboratory from town.

How to fast travel back to a town

It’s easy to get back to a settlement. Enemies frequently drop Portal Scrolls, shown in your inventory as little scrolls with a blue ribbon coming off them. You probably have a few stacked in your pockets already.

Right click on one of these and you’ll create a portal that, when entered, teleports you immediately to the main settlement of the current act. You can also re-enter the portal before it disappears, letting you go back to the initial spot you travelled from.

  • Duration : Modifiers to skill effect duration also apply to the duration of Swiftness granted by the skill
  • Minions : Minions fully benefit from Momentum support, visibly gaining swiftness upon reaching maximum momentum stacks.
  • For non-channelling skills, the attacks which puts you at maximum momentum stacks will have its attack speed at max momentum, despite the fact all the stacks were removed to gain Swiftness.
  • For channelling skills, attack speed is calculated dynamically, so when you reach maximum momentum stacks, it will have its attack speed at 0 momentum. This causes channelling skills to have its attack speed at most one under the maximum momentum stacks. [1]

Cooldown usually starts after first action of using skill known as cast time , but there could be exceptions. If cast time is 1 second and cooldown is 4 seconds the next use of skill can be started after 5 seconds.

Withering Step inventory icon

If there are stored uses , cooldown stacks after consuming uses of skill and do not overlap. Example : skill has 3 uses, cooldown is 8 seconds, then all uses can be consumed on demand, for example in 3 seconds. Cooldown stacks and each use of skill will be recovered after each cooldown ends. In other words, all 3 uses will be recovered after all 3 cooldowns end, after 24 seconds (3 x 8 second), since start first cooldown.

Cold Snap inventory icon

Cooldown time can be changed with different sources of Cooldown Recovery Rate . Cooldown Recovery Rate changes the rate of cooldowns recovering, not the cooldown timer. For example, a 50% increased Cooldown Recovery Speed on a skill on a 6 second cooldown will change the cooldown period to 4 seconds (6 / (1 + 0.5)), not 3 seconds (6 * (1 - 0.5)).

Vaal skills have a property where changes to duration (for Vaal skills with the "Duration" tag) also changes the cooldown period of the skill.

Path Of Exile: 10 Best Movement Skills In The Game, Ranked

Path of Exile offers an impressive selection of movement skills, and some are naturally better than others. Which ones are the best in the RPG?

In Path of Exile , you're either attacking your enemies or running away from them. This discussion will focus on the latter part, although maybe some of the former too. When it comes to running away from enemy one-shot attacks, nothing beats a rapidly spammable movement skill that shakes the screen.

RELATED:  Path Of Exile: Top 10 Tips To Survive Metamorph League

Of course, some options are better than others, so might as well pick the best among them. Because as with any loot-based action RPG, some items or skills are better than others. Also, beneath the Diablo derivative guise, Path of Exile is a game of numbers. Those numbers, be it experience or currency, will rise higher if you move faster and more efficiently using these skills.

10 Flame Dash

Before Flame Dash arrived, there were only a few Intelligence-based movement skills that can match Leap Slam or Whirling Blades. Flame Dash is a lovely skill that has instant animation and that makes it marginally preferable for some players.

It's practically a short teleport skill but it would have been placed higher if it was more spammable. As it is, Flame Dash can only be used instantly if not continuously. Otherwise, it will enter a state of cooldown, making it less reliable than others.

9 Leap Slam

Leap Slam is a classic among Diablo 2 fans and has forcibly made its way into Path of Exile out of sheer barbarian testosterone and nostalgia. Leap Slam used to be quite clunky as it required a certain distance otherwise the player character would walk before jumping.

RELATED:  Path of Exile Delirium: 10 Things You Need To Know About The Upcoming Expansion

That has since been fixed and now Leap Slam is the most viable way to close the gap, and it can even trigger some skills such as Fortify or Cast support gems. The reason why it's low is due to it requiring fast attack speeds, otherwise, it's a liability.

8 Whirling Blades

For something even faster than Leap Slam, Whirling Blades is a perfect option for Dexterity-based characters and cheesy pseudo-casters alike. It's essentially a dash skill that doubles as an attack.

That makes it good enough to be the main skill as well. Some builds even revolve around Whirling Blades. The distance is short though but it's good enough to be a faux-dodge. The downside is that it doesn't allow players to cross gaps and chasms; nevertheless, Whirling Blades' speed makes it a bit better than Leap Slam for general combat use.

7 Flicker Strike

Most movement skills in Path of Exile are focused on running fast in maps or dodging some enemies. However, some options like Flicker Strike are too powerful to pass up.

RELATED:  Path of Exile Delirium: 5 Reasons Why We're Excited (& 5 Why We're Worried)

Flicker Strike is basically a blink attack that teleports the players from enemy to enemy as long as they have Frenzy Charges to spend for it. Once upon a time, it was one of the most fun ways to clear maps fast though not the best skill for dealing with bosses . Even now, it remains a viable way to do content.

6 Lightning Warp

Speaking of viable ways to do content, Lightning Warp is one heck of a skill for Intelligence-focused builds. It's a teleport and main attack skill in one. Originally, many players ignored Lightning Warp.

Following last year's modification, Lightning Warp became one of the most powerful Intelligence-based skills with many builds  using it. Lightning Warp lets players select an area where they can be teleported to following a countdown, creating a lightning blast in the zone they left and the one they reappear in. You can imagine how much you can jack up the skill with that.

5 Charged Dash

Charged Dash is similar to Lightning Warp except it's a hold skill and can also be built as the main attack skill. When activated, it projects an image of the player character that can be moved with the cursor to a new location. The character will then travel there, releasing shockwaves along the way.

RELATED:  Path Of Exile: 5 Reasons Why Delirium League Is Great (& 5 It's Bad)

The damage dealt is lightning and it's a solid skill for map clearing thanks to the large area of effect. The damage also scales off a lot of factors such as movement speed and the illusion's travel distance, making it heavily modifiable.

4 Smoke Mine

Ever wanted to feel like a magical ninja that pops in smoke grenades and teleports the players there? Well, look no further than Smoke Mine. It lets players throw a mine and activating that mine teleports them there and creates a smoke field in the new and old area.

It's considered by many players as one of the best movement skills in the game. It acts as a utility skill and also an evasion skill thanks to the blind effect of the smoke field. While Smoke Mine can be quite tricky to use, all you usually need to do to circumvent that is to map the detonate key to the LMB.

3 Blink Arrow

For one of the most awesome tactical skills ever in the game, the Blink Arrow is quite irreplaceable for bow-based builds. It not only makes escapes possible but also repositioning in case some melee enemies get too intimate.

RELATED:  Path of Exile: 10 Things You Need To Know About The Upcoming Harvest League

When activated, it fires an arrow and teleports the players to the arrow's destination. Blink Arrow also works like Smoke Mine where it leaves a distraction for the enemies to gnaw on. In this case, the distraction is an illusion of the player character.

For the most desired movement skill  for mapping  in Path of Exile, not many can match the practicality of Dash. It's pretty straightforward as far as movement skills go. Players dash in the cursor's direction at a significant distance.

In actuality, Dash performers several quick teleports to the target area, making it usable for crossing gaps and odd terrain. Because of this, players don't need to rely on Quicksilver Flasks as often anymore.

This counts as a movement skill, even after several reworks. Cyclone is perhaps one of the most persistent skills in the game. It's an institution— a playstyle dating from the Whirlwind Barbarians of Diablo 2.

For that matter, it's still one of the most popular ways to play the game melee. Of course, Cyclone isn't about evading the enemy but rather putting some distance between you and them by sending them six feet below the ground in a few seconds. That's usually how fast decent Cyclone Builds deal with their enemies.

  10. Warcries cannot Exert Travel Skills (Explenation?)

  13. warcries and warcry mastery "cannot exert travel skills"

warcries should NOT inherently exert travel skills, as it does not make sense for the slow hitting builds to actually waste points in order to fully benefit from exerted attacks. it's like saying "an attack speed build should not benefit from attack speed fully unless they get a specific mastery" which again doesn't make sense.
