With their small and still-developing bodies, newborn babies are some of the most vulnerable humans when it comes to the potential effects of toxic chemicals. Pound for pound, they breathe more air, drink more water, and eat more food than adults do. That’s why many parents are doing what they can to decrease the amount of toxins in their little one’s environment.

Plus, as we know, newborns spend most of their time sleeping! Many traditional bassinets and crib mattresses are made with things like petroleum-based memory foams and formaldehyde-heavy glues, which aren’t always great for a baby’s development.

That’s why in this article, we’re going to talk about the different sleeping options for your newborn and then give our recommendations for the best organic and non-toxic bassinets, Moses baskets, and co-sleepers.

First, it’s helpful to be familiar with the different kinds of sleepers available for newborns…

Pictured above, a Moses basket is literally a basket that you can put your baby in. It’s long and narrow and has handles for easy portability. A lot of parents like Moses baskets because they’re so lightweight and easy to move around the house, so your newborn baby can be close by wherever you are.

Moses baskets are usually only used for babies up to about four months (give or take a few weeks depending on the length, weight, and mobility of the baby). You know your baby has outgrown their Moses basket when they begin to pull themself up, lift their head, and/or roll over. Moses baskets have weight limits too, which will vary by brand but are usually somewhere around 15 or 20 pounds.

If you choose to purchase a Moses basket, just make sure you follow the instructions that come with it in order to keep your baby safe at all times and use the correct size bassinet mattress (not too big or too small). We’ll talk more about the AAP’s guidelines for safe baby sleeping in a minute.

Both cribs and bassinets are safe places for babies to sleep. Bassinets and Moses baskets are both smaller than a crib, so they might be a better choice for those with smaller living spaces. Cribs, however, will last longer as your baby grows.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission ( CPCS ), a bassinet or cradle is defined as a “small bed designed primarily to provide sleeping accommodations for infants that is supported by freestanding legs, a stationary frame/stand, a wheeled base or a rocking base, or that can swing relative to a stationary base.”

The main difference between a bassinet and a crib is size . Cribs can be “full-size” or “non-full size,” but both are bigger than bassinets.

Co-sleeping (also called bed-sharing) is when parents bring their babies to their own bed with them. Co-sleeping can be dangerous and can increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), especially in younger babies, due to potential suffocation by sheets, being crushed by mom or dad, falling off of the bed, etc.

Some parents choose to use a co-sleeper, which is a special baby bed that allows the baby to sleep with their parent, but in a safer way.

But are co-sleepers safe? The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) doesn’t actually make a recommendation one way or the other. They state, “The AAP cannot make a recommendation for or against the use of bedside sleepers or in-bed sleepers until more studies are done.” One of the reasons for this is likely because there are different types of co-sleepers, which have different levels of safety. Using the same term for these various baby bassinets can be a bit confusing.

So, let’s talk about the three main types of co-sleepers:

Nest and In-Bed Co-Sleepers

An in-bed co-sleeper involves a little nest that is put on the parent’s bed which has walls that separate the baby from its parents, extra bedding, etc. This type of co-sleeper is not recommended (it can still fall off the bed if you roll over and potentially cause other dangers).

Attached Co-Sleepers

Attached co-sleepers attach to the side of a parent’s bed. It makes it easier to bring a fussy baby over to your bed to breastfeed or rock them, but then scoot them back over into their own bed when it’s time to go back to sleep. These types of co-sleepers are probably safer than nest and in-bed co-sleepers, but they still aren’t necessarily recommended but the AAP at this time.

Freestanding Co-Sleepers

This is where it gets kind of confusing because “freestanding co-sleepers” and bassinets are pretty much the same thing. Sometimes the terms bassinet and co-sleeper are even used interchangeably.

But essentially, a freestanding co-sleeper is a completely separate bed for your baby, which is not touching the parent’s bed at all. It tends to be more portable than a crib. You can have it close by or right next to your bed, but doesn’t involve any bed-sharing. This is the type of sleeping arrangement that the AAP recommends for the first six months of a baby’s life.

Babies’ small, developing bodies are especially vulnerable to the toxins in our environment—be it chemical flame retardants, plasticizers, and more. Many of these volatile organic chemicals ( VOCs ) that conventional furniture is made with are known endocrine disruptors (which means they can negatively alter hormones), carcinogens, or otherwise irritating.

It’s not uncommon for babies to struggle with things like eczema, so many parents are doing everything they can to decrease the amount of toxins their baby is exposed to in order to support their overall health.

There are two main components to consider when it comes to bassinet materials. The first is the cradle and/or frame portion. This can be made out of wood, plastic, woven grass, metal, or something else.

The second piece is the mattress. A lot of conventional mattresses are made with synthetic materials like polyurethane foam, polyester, and other plastics. These are petroleum byproducts and they’re not healthy for humans.

One could argue that making sure the mattress part of your baby’s bed is non-toxic and/or organic is the most important part because it’s what is right against your baby’s face and touching their skin. Look for materials like organic cotton or linen along with natural wood and woven grass. Also look for third-party certifications such as GOTS, MADE SAFE, GREEENGUARD, and CertiPUR.

Below we’re giving you options for both the frame and the mattress. You may get both pieces from the same brand or you may choose to mix and match, but if you do that, just make sure everything is the proper size in order to keep your baby safe.

As mentioned above, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are commonly used in things like furniture. Many of them are human-made chemicals that often come in the form of things like foams, glues, and chemical flame retardants. Here is a list of several VOCs that are commonly found in things like bassinet mattresses:

  • 1,3-butadiene
  • benzene (also found in things like candles)
  • formaldehyde
  • methylene chloride
  • tetrachloroethylene

If you want, you can read more about VOCs here .

One thing to note is that flame retardants in children’s products have largely been outlawed in recent decades in certain localities, like California. Considering that most companies want to sell to customers in California, this has lead to a kind of de facto elimination of flame retardants in most bassinets, cribs, and crib mattresses. That means that even if you buy a bassinet from a more ‘conventional’ brand, it probably doesn’t have as much toxic chemicals as it used to!

The good news is that there are some great non-toxic bassinets, Moses baskets, and co-sleepers on the market that you can feel good using. There are definitely pros and cons to the different brands and specific products, and everyone will have their own preferences. But we’re giving you the info below so you can choose what’s best for you:

natural-non-toxic-baby-bassinets-cribs-babyletto

This non-toxic bassinet is bigger than a basket but is still pretty portable with its removable wheels. It’s made primarily out of solid New Zealand pine wood and carries a GREENGUARD Gold certification which means it’s been verified to emit a minimal amount of VOCs.

The bottom of this freestanding bassinet is the only part that uses MDF, but Babyletto has said it’s free of formaldehyde. This is most likely because it’s manufactured using a water-based adhesive that doesn’t use detectable levels of VOCs.

The Gelato does come with a mattress pad, but it’s not made with organic/natural materials, so you may want to swap it out for Naturepedic’s Organic Mini Crib Mattress.

Price : $229 Can use until : Baby reaches 17.5 lbs or can roll over

Also, check it out in Target .

non-toxic bassinets from BabyBay

The babybay is a freestanding co-sleeper that’s made in Germany out of materials like solid beechwood (zero MDF) and water-based glues and finishes. (You also have an untreated option, pictured above, which does not have any finishes at all.)

One side of the sleeper has a shorter side to it so that you can push the bassinet up next to your bed while still making sure your baby is secure in their own space. Then you can purchase an optional side railing to convert the bassinet into a regular crib if you want to. You can get optional wheels as well. They also carry a taller version and a larger “maxi” version if you want a bigger one.

The only downside to this one is that they don’t offer an organic mattress pad to go with it (the mattresses are made primarily from polyurethane foam), and we haven’t been able to find any other brands that offer an organic mattress that’s the proper size and shape for the babybay bassinet. Of the three mattresses babybay offers, we recommend going with the “Classic” because it has the greatest amount of cotton. Then you can get the organic sheet set to go on top.

Price : $245+ Can use until : up to approximately 6 months of age or until baby pushes up

organic carry cot from finn + emma

This Carry Cot is Finn + Emma’s “modern take on the class Moses basket.” It’s ethically made of super-soft organic cotton in a crocheted knit weave, and it features a removable mattress and pillow, as well as handles that make it easy to move.

Plus, these beautiful pastel colors look beautiful in the nursery or any room in your home. When your baby outgrows the cot, it can be used as a diaper basket, toy bin, etc.

Price : $179 Can use until : approximately 6 months

best-natural-non-toxic-bassinet-baby-crib-oeuf-the-filtery

This is a pretty cool bassinet/crib 2-in-1 combo. The Fawn crib and bassinet system starts as a bassinet on wheels and can be converted into a full-sized crib as your baby grows. Then with the proper conversion kit, you can even turn it into a toddler bed, too. The modern, eco-friendly design is both practical and chic.

It is NOT completely free from plywood, but rather is made from FSC-certified Baltic birch plywood (eco-MDF) under European standards. It’s also made with water-based finishes and comes with a GREENGUARD Gold certification.

The bassinet comes with it’s own mattress pad, which is made out of a plant-based foam (not the best and not the worst material). Once you turn the bassinet into a crib, you have more options for the mattress—you can either grab one of OEUF’s (which are still made from partially plant-based foam) or you can replace it with a totally organic one from another brand.

Price: $1,085 (financing available) Can use until: the child is a toddler (with proper conversion kits)

non-toxic-organic-natural-baby-bassinet-made-trade-swahili-african-modern-the-filtery

These Fair Trade Moses baskets are handwoven in Ghana using natural Elephant grass. Swahili African Modern showcases the brilliance of modern African design through a beautiful collection of artisan-crafted baskets (as well as hampers and other home decor), all of which is hand-woven by the Wolof women of Senegal who are traditional, artisan basket weavers.

Price: $168 Can use until: about 6 months

organic-non-toxic-natural-moses-basket-plum-and-sparrow-the-filtery

This brand also carries a wide variety of Moses baskets that come in a lot of different (beautiful!) designs and shapes. Everything is handwoven by their artisan partners in Africa who have passed the skill of basket weaving down for generations. They have mattresses, liners, and stands to go with them as well.

Price: $195 Can use until: baby starts to sit up or roll over on their own

natural-non-toxic-modern-rocking-bassinet-monte-design-the-filtery

Monte Design makes a modern rocking bassinet. It’s not completely natural, but it’s handcrafted in Canada using CertiPUR certified, low-VOC foam. It carries an OEKO-TEX certification as well, which means the final product has been tested for a variety of toxic substances.

Unfortunately, the mattress that comes with this bassinet is not natural or organic either, but we will keep our eyes out for a natural alternative that fits with this bassinet.

Price: $695 Can use until: baby is 18 pounds or can roll over and move around

organic-natural-baby-bassinet-organic-portable-infacnt-sleeper

If you’re looking for something that can be folded up and tucked away into the closet or thrown in the car, this might be a good option for you. Baby Delight makes a portable infant sleeper that can be easily folded for storage. The mattress portion does contain synthetic foam, but the non-toxic fabric covering is made from GOTS organic cotton.

Price: $85 Can use until: baby is about 9 months

organic-natural-baby-bassinets-boses-bakset-stand-baby-eco-trends

If you’re looking for a stand to go with your organic moses bassinet, this website carries lots of them. Many of them rock, which can be an added feature to help soothe your baby to sleep. They’re handmade in Georgia, USA out of solid hardwood and certified Asthma & Allergy-Friendly paint. You can buy locks and/or brakes for them, too. Just make sure you get the right size for your basket!

Price: $190-$210 Can use until: Varies by basket/stand size, so check individual product pages for details

organic-natural-non-toxic-baby-crib-mattress-oval-naturepedic-the-filtery

It can be difficult to find an organic bassinet mattress. Naturepedic is one of the most trusted companies when it comes to non-toxic mattresses. Unfortunately, they don’t carry bassinets, but they do carry a couple of stand-alone mattresses for babies, including an oval crib mattress , a mini crib mattress , changing table pads , and resting nap pads .

If you already have a bassinet, co-sleeper, or Moses basket that will fit these dimensions then it might be a great addition to your current setup. (Again, just make sure it’s exactly the right size!) This mattress comes with a whole handful of safety certifications, including MADE SAFE, GOTS organic, and GREENGUARD.

Use code thefiltery15 for 15% off.

SNOO is a popular brand that advertises itself as a “virtual babysitter” by providing sleep sounds and robotic gentle rocking motion for your baby. Unfortunately, SNOO is not transparent about their materials, so we can’t really recommend it. (The fitted sheet and sleep sacks, however, are made from GOTS organic cotton—so at least that’s something!)

It may also be worth nothing that because the SNOO is a smart device, it comes with extra EMFs. Parents who want to take a precautionary approach to the EMF issue may choose to stay away from this bassinet for that reason as well.

Halo is another popular bassinet brand; depending on which version you get, your sleeper can swivel or vibrate to soothe your baby. But what are they made out of? According to Halo’s website, “the bed portion of the BassiNest Swivel Sleeper is made from 100% polyester fabric. The fitted sheet is a soft polyester knit. The base portion is made from steel, aluminum and high-impact plastic.” They go on to say that “all the plastic and paints used on BassiNest are lead, phthalate, and BPA-free.”

They do use chemical flame retardants in their bassinet mattresses as well, which is not good. (Thank you to reader Rachel for getting this info from them!)

According to their website, BabyBjorn’s Baby Cradle “is tested and approved according to the safety standard EN 1130. It stands firmly on the floor and has sturdy anti-slip feet. The airy mesh fabric makes the cradle cool and safe and also gives you good supervision of your little one.” So from a functional standpoint, the BabyBjorn bassinet is safe.

When it comes to the materials, BabyBjorn’s bassinet cradle is okay , but not great. It’s made from things like polyester, MDF, beechwood, polyether foam, and more polyester and PU foam. The only thing that’s really going for it is that it’s OEKO-TEX certified, which is definitely better than nothing.

There are several different things to consider when choosing what type of sleeping situation is best for you and your baby:

Especially when babies are very new, you want to be able to keep an eye on them all the time. Moses baskets are super portable and can easily be moved from room to room (although, you should never carry a Moses basket by the handle with the baby actually in it). The portability of bassinets varies by type and brand, but they’re definitely more portable than cribs .

The next thing to consider is the size of your home and bedroom. Moses baskets don’t take up very much space, whereas cribs tend to take up a lot more space. You might not have room for a crib in your bedroom for the first six months of your baby’s life, so a basket or bassinet might work a lot better for you.

Many bassinets have breathable mesh sides, which allow for airflow. Not only can they help keep your baby from getting too hot, but if they roll over and end up with their face against the side of the bassinet, they will still be able to breathe. Most of this mesh is nylon, which is a synthetic material. When it comes to toxicity, though, it’s not the best or the worst material. This is a situation where it’s worth using synthetic material in order to guarantee airflow.

Whatever product you choose, make sure it has a smooth bottom and a wide base so that it’s sturdy and cannot be knocked over.

Regardless of whether you use a bassinet, Moses basket, or crib, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has a set of safety guidelines that should be applied across the board. Here are some of them:

  • Place your baby to sleep in the same room where you sleep but not the same bed. Room share with the baby until at least six months of age.
  • Keep soft objects, loose bedding, or any objects that could increase the risk of entrapment, suffocation, or strangulation out of the crib. This includes extra bedding, stuffed animals, bumper pads, comforters, etc.
  • Place your baby to sleep on its back for every sleep.
  • Do not use sleep positioners, wedges, or other types of sleeping aides.
  • Place your baby to sleep on a firm, flat sleep surface.
  • Do not let your baby get too hot.

Most brands that make baskets and bassinets also make mattresses and fitted sheets that fit the exact dimensions of the bed. This is very important because a mattress that is too big or too small can cause infants to suffocate. Using extra sheets or blankets can also lead to suffocation, so always make sure you’re using correctly sized mattresses and fitted sheets, and do not use any extra bedding.

The safety guidelines listed here are not extensive. Be sure to read and follow all of the AAP’s safety guidelines and talk to your OB/GYN before bringing your sweet baby home for the first time.

Your baby spends the majority of its new life sleeping, so you can feel good about choosing from this list of the best non-toxic bassinets for your new little love. To get more guides and tips delivered to your inbox once a week, sign up for Filtered Fridays.

I have reached out to Halo basinet and the told me they do use chemical flame retardant in their bassinet mattress. just a heads up.

…actually, Babyletto’s site doesn’t list mattress components at all, but they say the cover is waterproof.

How do you think Babybay measures up with their bedside bassinet? The base of the Babyletto bassinet is MDF and although they say it is free of formaldehyde, I am still skeptical. They also have polyester in the mattress which I have read is not good??? IDK, it is all very overwhelming.

Thank you for this informative article. I’m trying to order the Snuzpod but so far I haven’t found anyone selling it in the US. Does anyone know if the Beaba or Venice Child are safe bedside sleeper options? Thank you

Hi Toby, Did you by chance reach out to Snuzpod to ask how much it would be to ship to the US? Their website says they do ship the States.

I hope that at some point in my lifetime I will be able to see affordability in products like these, but the U.S. has to make changes before that will ever happen.

I have ordered from Wholesome Linen due to the recommendation from this blog post. I have to say that I do not recommend ordering from Wholesome Linen. I ordered $300 worth of items and I never received them. I have contacted the company through calls and emails. The do not answer their calls, so I have to leave messages and they never call back. They were answering my emails in which they would keep telling me to wait for the items they have been shipped. However, it’s been 3 months and I never got them and they refuse to do anything about it. They started ignoring my emails too. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and found out that I was not the only customer that this happened to, so buyers please be ware!

Oh, no… We’re so sorry to hear about your experience with Wholesome Linen. Thank you for sharing with us – we’ve removed them from this article!

The 4 Chicest Moses Baskets for Baby’s Nursery

profile picture of Emma O'Regan-Reidy

You may not have heard of a Moses basket before, but if you’re a fan of everything boho-chic , it’s bound to have a designated spot on your nursery checklist . Many Moses baskets can serve as beds for newborns, offering parents a sweet, stylish alternative to typical bassinets or cribs . What’s more, their narrow footprint doesn’t take up as much space, making them perfect for room-sharing with your infant—which the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends for at least the first six months to reduce the risk of SIDS . That said, not all Moses baskets are created equal. And while some are safe for sleep, others are meant for decorative purposes only. Ready to learn more? Below, find out everything you need to know about Moses basket bassinets, then check out the chicest designs for sleep, diaper changing and gorgeous Instagram moments.

What Is a Moses Basket?

In short, a Moses basket is a basket that can hold your newborn. They’re typically made out of organic, natural materials woven into aesthetically pleasing patterns and feature handles at the top for easy portability between play, naps and other activities. Inside, you can place a small firm mattress (covered by super-soft, fitted crib sheets , of course!) to create a comfy sanctuary for your little one.

Can Baby Sleep in a Moses Basket?

Similar to bassinets , Moses baskets can be used by newborns from the first days at home up until around the four-month mark. Baby should stop using a Moses basket when the shows signs of or begin to sit , roll over or pull themselves up, or they physically outgrow the bed, says Jillian Thistel, a certified pediatric sleep consultant and founder of Twinkling Stars Pediatric Sleep Consulting in Ontario, Canada. To prevent the bed from tipping once they reach these milestones, your infant should transition into a crib appropriate for their size and age.

While Moses baskets are aesthetically pleasing, not all of them are safe sleep spots for baby. First and foremost, if you intend to use the basket as a bed for your newborn, check that the product you’ve chosen meets the safety requirements set out by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), advises Thistel. When shopping for a Moses basket bassinet, you can also look for a seal from the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) for added peace of mind. Last but not least, double-check that the Moses basket you have your eye on hasn’t been recalled for any reason, reminds Thistel.

When shopping for a Moses basket, Thistel advises parents to pick a product that is:

  • Sturdy, stable structure
  • Smooth, breathable sides that are high enough to prevent falls
  • Enclosed openings to prevent entrapment
  • Free of any small parts

Safety Tips to Consider When Using a Moses Basket

Just like a bassinet or a crib, a Moses basket should be used with attention and care to create a safe sleep environment for baby. Thistel suggests that parents consider the following guidelines when using a Moses basket bassinet:

  • Don’t pick up or move the basket while baby is inside it.
  • Avoid placing the bed on tables (or any other elevated surface) other than the stand that came with your basket.
  • As with any sleep space for infants, do not add blankets, pillows, stuffed animals or soft bedding to the basket.
  • Make sure the bed is placed in a safe spot; it shouldn’t be near any heaters, windows, blinds, stoves or fireplaces.
  • Avoid hanging any types of strings or cords from the basket.
  • At bedtime, the Moses basket should be placed beside your bed (just like a bassinet) so that baby remains close throughout the night.

baby sleeps in basket

One of the main reasons why people choose a baby Moses basket is because babies feel very secure in one. They are also easy to move around the house and don’t take up a lot of room. If you like to have your baby near you at all times, this could be a good choice.

It’s not advised to have your baby sleep in a baby Moses basket at night. You should reserve the basket for daytime use. If your baby falls asleep in the basket, make sure they are on their back, just as they would be in a crib or bassinet .

Make sure your baby is in the center of the basket and there are no blankets, stuffed animals, or toys around them. They should have nothing around them that would obstruct their ability to breathe.

Factors to Consider When Buying a Baby Moses Basket

When you’re considering buying a baby Moses basket, there are several factors to consider.

This is probably the most important factor because you want to choose a basket that is big enough and sturdy enough to hold your baby. Most Moses baskets are best for babies up to 15 pounds. Simply read the packaging to determine whether the basket is suitable for your baby.

You’ll want to choose a baby Moses basket that is easy to clean. We all know babies can spit up and have a blowout at any time, anywhere. Having a basket that’s easy to clean will make dealing with these things much easier.

Since many baby Moses baskets are only recommended for babies up to 15 pounds, you probably don’t want to spend a lot of money. Check the price before you put one on your registry.

#13. Linen Perch Baby Changing Basket with Liner

best_baby_moses_baskets

This baby Moses basket is more of a changing basket than an area where a baby can just hang out. But, it is eco- friendly and handmade in Vietnam from natural sea grass.

The liner of the changing pad is machine washable and easy to take out, making for easy cleaning. It is ultra-soft and looks great in a baby’s nursery. But, it is pricey for what it has to offer, especially since it’s not a traditional baby Moses basket.

  • Handmade in Vietnam from natural sea grass
  • Pricey for what it does

When it comes to finding the best baby Moses baskets, you want to keep the price and functionality in mind. This is why we chose the Hooded Baby Moses Basket as our top pick. It’s not only functional but also comes with a hood, which many models didn’t. This is a great addition to keep out excess light.

This basket also came with all of the bedding needed, which is a great bonus. Seeing that you can only use this until the baby reaches 15 pounds, this is a great pick for the price.

The best Moses baskets for babies 2024: 8 tried and tested options

We put the best Moses baskets to the test to help you find the right one for you and your baby

  • Sign up to our newsletter Newsletter

The best Moses baskets are here, including MOKEE WOOLNEST, CHICCO BABY HUG 4-IN-1 and Snoo Smart Sleeper Baby Cot

The best Moses basket for your little one can make all the difference between a good night's sleep and a great night's sleep - for the whole family.

Not all parents choose a Moses basket as their baby's first bed. Some prefer to go straight to using a cot or a cot bed , while a bedside crib is also a popular option. But one of the best things about a Moses basket is the fact that many are portable, meaning you can keep your bundle of joy right by your side, no matter the time of the day.

A Moses basket is typically suitable from birth until your baby is six months old or starting to sit up - whichever happens first. Traditionally, a Moses basket was a simple, sturdy wicker structure but these days there are all sorts of design variations to choose from when you're shopping around for the best Moses basket.

It can be hard to choose, though, so I've rounded up my pick of the best Moses baskets - all suitable from birth - and arranged for a panel of parents to put each one to the test. Read through what they had to say so you can be sure to choose the best Moses basket for your needs.

Best Moses baskets 2024 - our top picks

The Alysha Moses Basket by Mack + Milo (currently out of stock but the Alexandro Moses basket is a very similar design by the same brand) gets our vote as the best Moses basket you can buy. It's affordably priced but the design appeal is off the charts – it looks like a luxurious, premium product. There's no need to buy any pricy extras either because they're all included - that means no annoying hidden costs. We especially like the stylish look and feel of this Moses basket and the fact that it's considerably cheaper than many other Moses baskets out there.

However, if you're looking for a top-of-the-range Moses basket, the PurFlo Breathable Bassinet gets our vote as the best premium option. Meanwhile, if you're shopping for a brilliant Moses basket on a budget, we recommend going for the Natural Knitted Moses Basket from Little Green Sheep.

Finally, the Happiest Baby Snoo Smart Sleeper Baby Cot deserves special mention. Our reviewer, who put it to the test with her four-week-old baby, says it drastically improved the whole family's sleep - and thus changed their lives!

Best Moses baskets - Mack + Milo Alysha Moses Basket with Stand

1. Mack + Milo Alysha Moses Basket with Stand

Our expert review:

Specifications

Reasons to buy, reasons to avoid.

Stock Note: The Alysha Moses Basket is currently out of stock at Wayfair so you might like to look at the Alexandra Moses Basket (£108.99) which is a very similar design by the same brand, Mack + Milo.

Our consumer editor says: This is one of the best Moses baskets money can buy. It's a chic and contemporary Moses basket that comes with cosy, luxurious bedding as well as a mattress. It has a rocking stand, which makes it a good choice for soothing your baby to sleep whilst sparing your back. It's practical as well as stylish, and not too heavy to move from room to room for daytime naps.

Tested by: Katie Prior, mum to Ryker, six weeks.

Our tester found this easy to assemble, although some of the screws were a little stiff. "It's really simple and straightforward to put together, and didn't take us long to assemble," she says. "The basket liner and blanket are made from beautifully soft waffle fabric, which looks very luxurious and comfortable – like putting my baby to sleep on a little cloud."

Made from wicker, this Moses basket is sturdy and robust with a rigid, fixed hood. This means access to your baby is a little restricted. However, our tester's baby seemed happy being in this fairly enclosed space. This is a good choice if you plan to move your Moses basket between rooms on the same floor - our tester found it easy to lift and carry thanks to the robust handles. However, it's a little bulky for carrying up and down stairs frequently.

The rocking stand is a lovely feature, although there's no fixed setting, which means you can't stop it from rocking. That's not necessarily an issue but it could mean your baby comes to rely on the rocking motion in order to sleep.

Verdict: "This is a gorgeous product and great value for money," adds Katie. "The bedding is soft and looks very comfortable, and the rocking stand is great, particularly as my baby loves being swayed to sleep."

Best premium Moses baskets: PurFlo Breathable Bassinet

2. Purflo PurAir Breathable Bassinet

Our consumer editor says: This distinctive bassinet comes with a breathable mattress and mesh sides to encourage airflow. It has a 'soothing centre' that plays lullabies and nature sounds plus two vibration modes and a nightlight. The bassinet has a hood, which comes with hanging toys included, and the hood folds down easily for quick access to your baby. This is a good choice if you're short on space near your bed, as there's a storage area underneath the bassinet which is handy for keeping baby wipes and spare nappies close at hand.

This was easy to put together, with just a few connecting parts. "It was up and ready to use within 15 minutes," says Katie. "Having said that, the instructions aren't easy to follow, so we disregarded them and just used common sense!"

Katie loves the look of this Moses basket and found the soothing centre a useful extra. "This bassinet looks soft, cosy and luxurious – the 'soft truffle' is a lovely, warm beige colour – and the whole thing is surprisingly compact so it doesn't take up a huge amount of space."

"The lullabies and nature sounds are pleasant and not too 'tinny'. There are multiple volume and vibration settings, which my baby seemed to enjoy. However, the 'nightlight' is very bright and awkwardly positioned. We avoided using it, as it shines directly in my baby's face."

The hanging toys are a handy extra, but Katie found they didn't hold her baby's attention for long. "The toys aren't brightly coloured, so my baby wasn't very engaged by them," she says. Instead, she attached a mobile. "That was great, as I haven't been able to attach a mobile to any other Moses basket I've used."

Verdict: Overall, this is a stylish and compact bassinet, with useful functionality to help soothe your baby to sleep. "It's soft and cosy, and my baby was content both chilling and sleeping in the bassinet," adds Katie. "The muted colours, with beige or grey options will complement most nursery colour schemes. And the storage basket will come in handy in smaller rooms."

Best Moses baskets - The Happiest Baby Snoo Smart Sleeper Cot

3. The Happiest Baby Snoo Smart Sleeper Cot

Stock Note: There's 40% off the Snoo Smart Sleeper Baby Cot this weekend, bringing the price down to £687.

Our consumer editor says: It’s not often that we describe a bit of baby gear as a game-changer but the Snoo Smart Sleeper is exactly that. It's not technically a Moses basket, but it's worth considering if you're in the market for one because of its clever functionality. It’s also sleek and beautiful to look at - like an expensive but ultra-modern bedside crib. It has inbuilt rocking functionality and white noise features, which ‘respond’ to your baby’s cries and can be controlled via an app on your smartphone. See? We told you it was a game-changer.

Imagine no more pacing the floor with a screaming baby. Picture an end to rocking a crib for hours on end. And did we mention that it looks beautiful too?

Tested by: New mum Grace and her baby daughter

"This is really sleek - it looks like a big fancy hotel bathtub," says our tester, Grace. "Also there is just one button on the cot itself so you can’t go wrong in the middle of the night when you’re staggering around in the dark."

Despite being a high-tech product the Snoo isn’t intimidating to use. "You just put your baby in, swaddle them both sides and at the bottom, zip up the sack, and press start," adds Grace. "The whole point of the Snoo is that it’s complex, but not for you - the machine handles that part."

Two things to note - the Snoo isn’t light so it’s not suitable for moving between rooms. And if you’re a light sleeper and you place it on a wooden floor, you might hear the magic machinery within.

"It’s very heavy, which of course is a good thing, as that makes it incredibly sturdy - an excitable puppy or toddler isn’t going to knock it over," explains Grace. "But if you’ve had a C-section or feel fragile after giving birth, you can’t lift or move it with ease."

During use, Grace heard some mechanical noises and squeaking - which definitely wasn’t coming from her baby. "If this is likely to disturb you, place it on a carpet or a thick rug, or get some feet pads to dull the sound," she suggests. "Or place the cot away from your bed."

Happiest Baby encourages running any such issues past their sleep consultants who are available 7 days a week - a service included in the initial cost of the cot.

Verdict: In conclusion, the Snoo is far more than somewhere for your baby to sleep. "On top of improving the length and quality of sleep, and allowing for adaptability and monitoring, it also claims to reduce the risk of SIDs," explains Grace.

In this case, these claims are not just marketing buzzwords. A great deal of thought has clearly gone into its design and creation. Baby is kept on their back with the Snoo sack - the recognised safest position for a baby to sleep. And the upper material is entirely meshed, making it breathable. As a baby grows and can begin to roll, the sacks allow for the baby's arms to be outside the sack. The bottom half is also loose, abating worries about hip and leg development.

So is the Snoo Smart Sleeper worth its hefty price tag? Would our tester recommend the Snoo? "Yes and yes - wholeheartedly," she says. "I believe that sleeping better, thanks to the Snoo, has allowed my husband and me to enjoy these special early days and weeks with our daughter more, which is priceless."

It’s an expensive item, so it must deliver on all points. "But it does," says Grace. "Alongside its sleep and safety benefits, the Snoo is aesthetically appealing and well-sized, with an intuitive and easy-to-use app and free access to sleep experts over the phone."

Best Moses baskets - The Lua bedside crib in grey, available from Mamas and Papas

4. Mamas & Papas Lua Bedside Crib

Our consumer editor says: The Mamas & Papas Lua Bedside Crib is cleverly designed to make it easy to sleep with your baby safely by your side. It comes with a mattress - with a breathable fibre core - included.

The bassinet is removable so this bedside crib is a practical choice if you want to be able to use it in different rooms of the house, such as for daytime naps. The side is retractable with an auto-return feature, so it's quick and easy to lift your baby safely in and out of the crib.

Our tester says: The contemporary, modern design and mesh fabric side panels make this an appealing bedside crib for parents who like minimalist style. During testing, we loved the adjustable side because it makes lifting your baby in and out of the crib super easy. There's no fiddling around with zips or flaps, and the side pops back in place by itself.

We also love the inbuilt storage shelf and changing mat - so handy for making nighttime nappy changes quick and stress-free. Another standout feature of this stylish bedside crib is how easy it is to adjust. You can change the height quickly as required and even set it at an incline to relieve symptoms of reflux.

Verdict: Overall, this is a stylish, innovative bedside crib with lots of practical features that make it perfect for parents who want something a little more versatile than a standard Moses basket.

Best Moses baskets - Little Green Sheep Natural Knitted Moses Basket

5. The Little Green Sheep Natural Knitted Moses Basket

Our consumer editor says: The Little Green Sheep Moses Basket is a woven natural palm leaf basket. It has an organic knitted liner. It comes with a natural, chemical-free mattress, but the stand has to be purchased separately.

Tested by: Kate Wills, mum to Blake, aged 10 weeks.

The general look and design of this Moses basket impressed our tester. She found it easy and intuitive to use. "This arrived without too much packaging, and looks really good in our bedroom," she says. "The basket itself is well-designed and very light, so it's really easy to move around the house. The wooden stand also folds away easily and doesn't take up much space."

The quality of this Moses basket is impressive, and the knitted liner adds a touch of seriously cosy luxury. "It's very chic and looks quite Scandinavian in design," says Kate. "But it's also very practical – the liner stopped my baby from scratching her hands on the inside of the basket, which happens in our own Moses basket. That makes this one feel warm and cosy."

Despite the stand being an extra expense, this is still a good value choice. "The mattress alone is worth £40," adds Katie. "It's a lovely looking product overall, and looks much more expensive than it is."

Verdict: The only downside is that this Moses basket seems less roomy in comparison to others we tested, so it may not last your baby as long as others. "My baby was 9lbs at birth, so there's not much room in this for her to stretch out," adds Katie. "For that reason, it's probably better suited to smaller babies."

If that's not a problem, and you're not looking for the Moses baskets with the greatest longevity, this will make a lovely addition to your nursery. Lastly, if you're keen on organic and chemical-free products for your little one, this is the best Moses basket for you.

Best Moses baskets - Tommee Tippee Sleepee

6. Tommee Tippee Sleepee

Our consumer editor says: This breathable Moses basket has more than 300 air holes to help promote airflow. Also, it comes with a water-resistant mattress and 100 per cent cotton liner. It's easy to wipe clean (hurrah) and comes with a stand so you can gently rock your baby to sleep.

Tested by: Katie Prior and her son, Ryker, six weeks.

"At first I felt this looked more like a laundry basket," says Katie. "But it looks much more baby-friendly once the liner is added, and my baby seemed quite happy in it. The basket itself is very large and spacious but it's also very light, making it really easy to move around. Since it's made of plastic, it's also very easy to clean."

The mattress is washable but it's not a standard size, so factor that in when you're buying bedding. The plastic sides and handles add robustness, which makes this a good choice if you'll be carrying it up and down stairs frequently.

On the downside, assembling the stand for this Moses basket is a bit of a challenge. But once assembled, the stand was a hit. "The rocker option is great, and really helped soothe my baby to sleep," says Katie. "Also, I like that it can be set to static mode if you don't want it rocking all the time."

Verdict: Overall, this is a durable, lightweight Moses basket that's ideal for busy parents as it's so easy to move from room to room. It's also a good choice for a first baby – if you've got space to store this Moses basket once it's outgrown, you could use it again - and again!

Best Moses baskets - Chicco Baby Hug 4 in 1 Air

7. Chicco Baby Hug 4-in-1

Our consumer editor says: The Chicco Baby Hug is impressively versatile. That makes it a practical choice if you're short on space. Suitable from birth right through until your baby is three years old, it converts from an overnight crib to a reclining seat.

And, eventually, you can use it as a highchair. It's height-adjustable and easy to move between rooms, thanks to the wheels. It's also good value for money, since few items of baby gear are this multifunctional. It's also a good choice for babies who suffer from congestion or reflux.

Tested by: Katie Prior with baby Ryker, aged three months.

"I found the assembly instructions very difficult to understand, with just pictures and no description or written steps, but once I found a video online to follow, it was actually quite simple to put together," says Katie. "The cot is a great size, with soft sides and breathable mesh walls, but it doesn't come with a mattress – you have to buy that separately."

Katie found it easy to adjust this for each of its different purposes. Overall, she found the highchair mode the most useful setting. "The movement between the different uses is smooth and easy, which really shows the product's quality, and the lockable wheels make it really easy to wheel the highchair from room to room or up to a table. However, there's no tray included, so you also have to buy that separately."

The Chicco Baby Hug comes with some extras including a musical arch with hanging toys. "The hanging toys are very basic but the melodies are great, with a selection of both upbeat and soothing tunes," says Katie. "If only the Baby Hug could also rock or bounce the baby – that would be a useful feature."

Verdict: We think this is an adaptable, good quality first bed for your baby. It feels sturdy and hard-wearing. However, it is a little cumbersome. For this reason, it's not ideal for carrying upstairs and downstairs. The fact that it can be used for various purposes until your baby is three years old adds real value for money and makes it a brilliant choice for keeping at the grandparents' house for occasional use.

Best Moses baskets - MoKee Wool Nest

8. MoKee WoolNest

Our consumer editor says: The WoolNest is a stylish, contemporary twist on a classic Moses basket. It's made from high-quality, blended wool felt with robust cotton straps. It comes with a breathable foam mattress with an aloe vera-infused quilt cover that's easy to unzip for washing. However, the stand isn't included, so factor that into your budget.

Tested by: Sonia Zhuravlyova, mum to Bran, six weeks.

"This basket was a little tricky to assemble but once we got it done it looked really stylish in our living room," she says. "The basket provides a super cosy space for the baby to nap in, and the mattress feels firm yet cosy. Bran loves being in this basket and sleeps very well in it during the day. The handles mean you can carry it easily from room to room, and the base folds down really easily."

Verdict: There are no 'bells and whistles' on this Moses basket - what you see is what you get. But despite the lack of musical features and no rocking mode, this is still a practical choice. In particular, it's ideal f you're looking for a sturdy yet stylish Moses basket that's lovely to look at but easy to move between rooms. "The Mokee Wool Nest will appeal to design-conscious parents because it has a pleasing Nordic aesthetic," adds Sonia.

9. Shnuggle Dreami Moses Basket and Curve Rocking Stand

Our consumer editor says: The mattress and stand come included with this stylish, contemporary Moses basket. That means it's excellent value for money. Despite being robust for nighttime sleeping, it's also light enough to move around the house easily. The ventilated, hypo-allergenic base promotes airflow, and the luxurious quilted mattress has a breathable mesh cotton lining that's easy to remove for washing. The stand has two settings so you can use it in fixed and rocking modes.

Tested by: Kate Wills, mum to Blake, aged three months.

Our tester found the Shnuggle Dreami quite large compared to other Moses baskets. Therefore, she feels it's best suited to parents with plenty of space. But it's easy to wipe clean in the event of nappy leaks or milk explosions which are, of course, inevitable.

Overall, this Moses basket impressed Kate. "It's very easy to set up – you just need a screwdriver – and the design is definitely different to a traditional Moses basket," she says. "It's made of white plastic, which makes it easier to clean, and means it would suit a modern home or someone who likes a minimalist aesthetic. It's also light and quiet to carry around, yet it feels robust and sturdy."

Verdict: The best Moses baskets are cosy spaces but there's no hood on this, so it's a little less comforting than those made from softer fabrics. "It's also a bit larger than other Moses baskets, so it's a good choice for bigger babies - or ones who tend to wriggle a lot!" adds Katie. However, the design is clever as the stand folds away easily, and the basket can rock on it when it's on the floor.

What to look for when buying a Moses basket

Why you can trust GoodtoKnow. Our experienced Consumer Editor & parent reviewers spend hours testing products to help you make the best choice. Find out how we test and review products.

  • Size - Your baby can safely sleep in their own bedroom from the age of six months. With this in mind, check the dimensions of a Moses basket before you buy. You'll want to make sure it fits in your bedroom and that you'll have enough space to move around it.
  • Weight - The best Moses baskets are easy to move from room to room as your baby naps throughout the day. Think about how portable you'd like yours to be. With this in mind, choose a lightweight Moses basket. Secondly, check for sturdy handles.
  • Fabric - Next, think about whether you want a durable, sturdy Moses basket or something made from softer, cosy fabric. Decide, too, whether you'd like a rocking stand. This gives you the option to rock your baby to sleep without straining your back.

Your baby should sleep in the same room as you from birth to six months -  even for daytime naps. Research shows that the risk of sudden infant death (SIDS) is lower when babies sleep in a cot or crib in the same room as their parents. Sharing a room with your baby is also convenient since it means you'll hear when your baby stirs.

Are Moses baskets safe?

Yes, absolutely. But don't just take our word for it. Hannah Love , who is a paediatric nurse and parenting and sleep expert says: "The NHS and The Lullaby Trust both include Moses baskets as a safe sleep space for babies.  In fact, they go beyond that and actually state that using a Moses basket can reduce the chance of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

"They are also a cosy space for babies, with the ability to rock them slightly, which can, in turn, encourage sleeping in their own environment – rather than on you."

How we tested the best Moses baskets

Our Consumer Editor Heidi Scrimgeour came up with a shortlist of Moses baskets based on her product knowledge and industry research, and by looking at the latest offering from the market-leading brands. As a mum of three and a parenting journalist for 15 years, what she doesn't know about baby products isn't worth knowing.

Next, she selected the final product line-up from a broad range of price points - so there's something here to suit every budget. We then called on our pool of reliable parent testers and assigned each of them a Moses basket to review with their baby. They tested the product rigorously for at least ten days, before giving each product a rating out of five for overall performance.

We also asked for comprehensive feedback on key factors including design appeal, manoeuvrability, functionality (how easy is it to assemble and fold/unfold), portability (how compact it is when folded) and value for money. We used all of this feedback to assemble this buying guide and the accompanying in-depth product reviews.

What is the Best Moses Basket for Your Baby in 2024? My Experience.

If you’re like me when I was a new mom, you’re probably wondering what in the world a Moses basket is. When I first heard about them, I had no clue. Well, a Moses basket is a type of bassinet. It is designed to keep your baby close to you while they sleep during their first few months of life. They are made to be comfy, cozy, and safe. The name comes from the basket that Moses’ mother put him in to keep him safe before setting him in the Nile river.

I received one as a gift after my first child was born, and it was really helpful during my postpartum recovery. I was able to take care of my son while also taking the time that my body needed to heal. Having him close while not having to worry about his safety was very important to me. A Moses basket helped us bond while also allowing me to have my hands free.

This guide was put together to help you decide what Moses basket is right for you and your baby. We narrowed it down to our top 5 picks to make it easier for you to choose the best Moses basket for you.

Carry on reading or jump straight to our number #1 pick here .

Table of Contents

What Should I Look For in a Moses Basket?

Here’s how we’ve determined the best moses basket, #1: badger basket woven moses basket (best value), #2: clair de lune over the moon palm moses basket (best overall), #3: sunveno baby bed and baby lounger moses basket (best portable), #4: tadpoles all natural organic moses basket (best low cost), #5: iceblue hd moses basket (best cotton rope), #6: tommee tippee sleepee basket and stand (best rocking), moses baskets vs bassinets, are moses baskets safe for newborns, what bedding will i need for my moses basket, how long does a newborn baby sleep in a moses basket, how should a newborn baby sleep in a moses basket, verdict: your best moses basket .

There are important features that you will want your Moses basket to have. Take a look at this list that we came up with and be sure to keep these things in mind before you make a purchase.

Accidents happen, and it will be impossible to wipe down a wicker basket effectively. Make sure the Moses basket you choose has a fabric liner that is easy to clean or is machine washable. The liner should also be thin enough for good airflow.

All of the Moses baskets on this list have some sort of handles. You will want these to be strong and easy to grip to make moving the basket easy.

Most Moses baskets come with a mattress. They are meant to provide a flat, soft surface for your baby to sleep at night or during nap time. You will want to make sure that if you use a sheet, that it fits correctly to prevent any safety hazards. A fitted sheet is the best option.

Portability

The idea behind a Moses basket is being able to move your baby from room to room so they can stay with you. You will want to make sure that it is lightweight and stable so you can move it with ease.

You will notice that most of these products do not have a stand. The Clair de Lune basket comes with a stand, but with the other options, it can be purchased separately. Make sure the one you choose will fit the baby basket securely. Always check the measurements as well any features that the stand has that will be the most appealing to you.

The Moses baskets on our list are all relatively similar in size. Still, you must take a look at the measurements before you buy, not only to make sure it isn’t too large for the intended space but also that it is large enough to comfortably fit your baby.

Through research and testimonials from other parents, we formed this list of our top picks for the best baby Moses baskets. We have chosen the Moses baskets we believe are the safest and offer the most important features. There is a lot of variety on this list. Figure out which features matter most to you when considering your best option. So let’s dive in and go over what makes our choices so special.

Our Top Picks for the Best Moses Basket of 2021

This is our top 5 Moses baskets list. There is something here for every baby and mom.

What makes this our top pick is the simplicity. It has a cozy, modern feel that moms really enjoy. With everything that it comes with, plus its sturdy structure, it is the best value for your money. It would also be a thoughtful baby shower gift. I had used this one with my son and it was fantastic. This is why I loved it:

It Comes with Bedding

This wicker Moses basket comes with a bedding set that includes a fitted sheet, foam pad mattress, and fabric liner. They are all machine washable. It’s a great feature because of course, you can purchase an additional sheet if you want but it isn’t completely necessary.

It Has a Metal Frame

None of the other Moses baskets on this list have this feature. It is another reason why it’s our #1 pick. The crush-resistant metal frame makes this basket extra strong and safe to help you feel secure.

What else is there to say about the Badger Moses Basket?

  • Measures 32 inches long x 19.5 inches wide
  • 15 lbs. weight limit
  • 30-day limited manufacturer’s warranty
  • Bedding is made of 100% polyester
  • Can be used for storing toys once the baby outgrows it

The Badger Basket Moses basket is the best value for your money. It’s safe, sturdy, and includes additional accessories to save you from buying more. Many parents love this basket because it’s stylish and simple. You can’t go wrong with this basket.

Compared to every other Moses basket on our list, the Clair de Lune is the most expensive. It ships from the UK and is handwoven with a high-quality palm leaf.

It Includes a Stand

The most noticeable difference between this Moses basket and our #1 pick is the stand. You can purchase a stand separately for the Badger basket if you desire, but Clair de Lune makes one for theirs. A stand gives you the freedom to have your baby sleep close by but not directly in your bed.

The Hood Is Removable and Adjustable

You may consider a Moses basket with a hood for naps during the day time. Blocking out the light may help your baby get more restful sleep. If you choose to move it into the living room during the daytime, you might want to consider a Moses basket with a hood. The best part is you can adjust it the way you like, or you can remove it altogether at night if you so choose.

Let’s go over some other important features that are included with the Clair de Lune Moses basket.

  • 100% machine washable cotton fabric lining
  • Measures about 30 inches long x 11 inches wide
  • Lightweight
  • Has handles for portability
  • 20 lbs. weight limit
  • Made in Great Britain
  • Comes with a mattress and coverlet

If your budget allows, you should definitely consider this Moses basket as it is beautifully made. Like other baskets, it can be used for storage once your baby grows out of it. The stand really makes this product stand out above the rest of the Moses baskets on our list. This is a great choice if you can afford it.

YouTube video

This Moses basket was designed for travel, unlike our #1 and #2 picks. What sets this one apart is that is the only basket on our list that isn’t woven. It’s made of organic cotton and hypoallergenic polyester. Do you want to know my favorite feature? It is the only Moses basket we mention that is safe enough to use to carry your baby around! Whether you’re heading home from the hospital or going on a picnic, you can transport your little one with ease.

It’s Multi-Functional

Another big reason you might want to purchase this Moses basket is because of all the things it can do. Unlike the others, it is not just a bassinet for your baby to sleep in. As previously mentioned, it’s a carrier, but you can use it for feeding, changing, or as a playpen . This is most ideal if you are out of the house, because these features alone make it the perfect all-in-one baby product.

It’s Easy to Use

A great perk of this Moses basket is that folds up. This makes it very easy to store, when you aren’t using it, or to load into your car. One of the best recommendations for this product is to use this in place of carrying your baby around in an infant car seat. If you’ve done this before, you know how heavy they are. The Sunveno is lightweight at under 5 lbs., making it much easier to carry around, even on an airplane.

Other features of the Sunveno Baby Bed and Lounger are…

  • Maximum weight of 45 lbs.
  • Hypoallergenic bumpers on the mattress
  • Bottom is waterproof
  • Stable base
  • Clip-on shade for sunny days outdoors
  • Measures 28 inches long x 14 inches wide
  • Machine washable removable liner

As you can tell, this would be a great choice for you if you’re always on the go. It is sturdy and can be used until your baby is a year old. Transporting your little one has never been easier. If portability is one of your top wants, then this Sunveno Moses basket would be best for you.

At the cheapest price point out of all of the other baskets on our list, the Tadpoles Organic Moses basket could be exactly what you’re looking for. It’s made of all-natural palm leaves and is very durable. So what else does this basket have to offer?

It’s Handmade

There’s just something about handmade baby products that make moms love them. This Moses basket was handwoven with care and is very durable. Even though this purchase is just the basket, it is still a steal for what it costs. The organic palm leaves are 100% safe for baby as well, giving you one less thing to worry about.

It’s Simple

If you want a baby product that functions as you need without additional bells and whistles, then this Moses basket might be right for you. Unlike the #3 basket on our list, you can’t take this one on a vacation or road trip. It isn’t made for travel like the Sunveno. However, if all you want is a basic Moses basket, it would be better for you to choose the Tadpoles All Natural.

Let’s see what the other features of the Tadpoles All Natural basket are.

  • Measures 32 inches long x 12 inches wide
  • Weight limit of 15 lbs.
  • Can be used as a storage basket once the baby is too big
  • Bedding set can be purchased additionally

The takeaway with this Moses basket is that it is simple, it’s durable, and its only function is being an alternative bed to a crib or bassinet. This doesn’t mean that it is a bad option. If you have a tight budget, this would be a wonderful choice for you. It’s still a beautiful and functional product and the only basket that we have chosen out of all the others in the Tadpoles line.

Traditional Moses basket material is usually some sort of wicker or other handwoven materials like the palm leaf. You’ll see this with other picks on our list such as the Tadpoles basket and the Badger Basket. The Iceblue Moses basket is made of natural cotton rope. It’s safe, eco friendly, and free of any harmful chemicals. Read on to see why this one made our list.

It’s Lightweight

Out of all of the other Moses baskets we have chosen, this one weighs the least at under 3 lbs. Moving it around can’t get any easier. Feel free to move this baby basket from room to room so your baby can nap wherever you are.

It Doesn’t Require a Liner

Except for the Sunveno Baby Bed and Lounger, this is the only traditional basket that we mention that doesn’t need a liner. The only bedding you will need is a mattress and a fitted sheet. With the soft cotton material over the palm leaf or wicker, this baby bed doesn’t need that buffer to keep your baby comfortable.

Here are some other features of this baby Moses basket.

  • Maximum weight limit of 15 lbs.
  • Measures 27.5 inches long x 15.75 inches wide
  • Mattress and stand are sold separately
  • 100% handmade
  • Can be used for storage after the baby grows out of it

The Iceblue HD is a great option for a Moses basket for your baby. The soft cotton is not only sturdy but also provides a cozy environment for them to sleep in. It would be nice if it had a machine-washable liner like the Badger Basket, for example, because accidents happen. However, this baby basket is unique and easy to move around. So if this sounds like what you’re looking for, this could be the right baby bed for you.

Tommee Tippee Sleepee Basket and Stand

This Moses basket for baby is the only one on our list that can rock. You can purchase all types of stands separately from the other baskets, but this one is included. It’s nice because it puts a little bit of extra money back in your wallet. So why is this an option for one of the best Moses baskets? Let’s break it down.

Curved Base to Rock Your Baby

Of course, this is the main reason why this is the best rocking basket on our list. It’s the only one that’s capable of doing so! It allows you to gently rock your baby to sleep. You can also adjust it to keep it still as well for safety when you’re not rocking it.

It’s Easy to Clean

Unlike the Tadpole Moses basket, for example, this basket is made of 100% recyclable plastic. You can easily wipe it down with warm water and mild soap. This can’t be done with a woven basket. The mattress is also easy to clean as well as water-resistant. All of the bedding included can also be machine washed, which is great because moms are almost always in the middle of doing laundry.

Here are its main features.

  • 300 air holes for ventilation
  • Machine washable sheet
  • Strong integrated handles
  • Measures 33 inches long x 16.5 inches wide
  • Maximum weight of 20 lbs.
  • 100% cotton liner (also machine washable)

If an easy to clean, easy to move basket is what you’re after, this would be a great option for you. This one made our list because of its rocking capability. It will give your back a much-needed break. Plus, the sturdy handles allow you to pack it up and move it to other rooms in your home, so the baby can sleep virtually anywhere.

I mentioned before that a Moses basket is considered a type of bassinet. Now we are going to go over some of the key differences between them. A traditional bassinet and Moses basket are not exactly the same.

The main thing that you’ll notice is that a bassinet is always on freestanding legs. They can be portable, have wheels, and are designed to fit smaller spaces where you can’t typically fit a full-size crib . On the other hand, Moses baskets have sturdy handles and weigh a lot less than a bassinet. This makes them easy to transport.

So how do you know which is best for you? The easiest way to answer this is based on whether or not you will want to have your baby in your bed. Moses baskets are designed to keep your little one as close as possible, and this also includes when you move from room to room in your house during the day. Since the baskets are so lightweight, they are much easier to lift and carry around.

However, if what you are looking for is to just have a comfy space for your baby to sleep in your tiny apartment, then a bassinet is probably a better choice. You can still choose a bassinet that is fit for transport, but it won’t be as simple a task as moving the basket. A bassinet will sometimes have other features, such as lights and sounds, if that is something you may be interested in.

They are very safe for newborns. Moses baskets are designed for your little one to get some much-needed rest while at your bedside. But it doesn’t stop there. Some of these baskets can be used until your baby is around 6 months old. As long as you follow basic safety guidelines, there is no reason why you shouldn’t purchase one for your baby. Just remember to never move or lift the basket with your baby inside of it. It is very dangerous and poses a high risk of falling and injuries.

It is important to choose the bedding wisely for your basket. Just like with a bassinet or a crib, you need to make sure there isn’t any loose bedding inside. Choose a simple fitted sheet and skip the pillows and blankets as they are a potential hazard for your baby. That sheet, plus a swaddle and the lining, if needed, should be the only bedding used in the basket.

You’ll notice that depending on the model, there is a slight variation in the weight limit for a Moses basket. The same rule for all of them though is that once your little one begins to roll over or push themselves up, it is time to discontinue use. For most babies, this will be around 3-4 months old. Every child is different though, so be sure to pay attention to the development of your baby and decide when it’s time to make the switch to a different bed.

Just like a bassinet or a crib, your baby should always sleep on their back. It is safest for them and helps reduce the risk of SIDS. Remember never to add unnecessary bedding like blankets and pillows, as it can be a suffocation hazard. However, if you are concerned about comfort and your baby staying asleep, you may swaddle them tightly. This makes your little one feel secure and helps them to stay asleep longer. Additionally, you may add a fitted sheet to the mattress or foam pad. Just be sure that it is the right size and fits properly to further prevent any injury.

If you want the best value for your money, pick the Badger Basket Woven Moses Basket . It includes a bedding set and a very durable metal frame.

For the best overall including a basket stand, pick the Clair de Lune Over The Moon Palm Moses Basket . It has many wonderful features for a parent with a large budget.

For the best baby Moses basket for travel and portability , pick the Sunveno Baby Bed and Baby Lounger Moses Basket . It is the best option out of all of the other products mentioned if you plan to bring the baby on frequent trips.

If you have a tight budget , pick the Tadpoles All Natural Organic Moses Basket . It’s simple, safe, and beautiful.

If you’re looking for something more unique and the best Moses basket made of cotton rope , pick the Iceblue HD Moses Basket . It’s the most lightweight of all of these baby Moses baskets.

If rocking your baby is a must-have on your feature list, pick the Tommee Tippee Sleepee Basket and Stand . It’s the only basket on our list with this capability.

Trying to decide which of these baby Moses baskets may seem like a difficult decision at first. This is why we did the research for you and put this guide together to assist you in making your choice. Take into consideration what features matter the most to you and compare that to what these best Moses baskets have to offer. Each of these products has very specific reasons to purchase them, so you can’t go wrong with any of these baby beds.

Item Information

A Moses basket provides a place for baby to sleep at home or when visiting friends and family. With its small size, it can easily be moved from room to room to provide a space for baby anywhere in the house. Although many Moses baskets have handles, for safety reasons, the basket should not be carried with baby in it. Once baby has outgrown the basket, it can be used to store toys or other goods.
