How Much Is Starbucks Coffee Traveler?

The price of the Starbucks Coffee Traveler is based on the size of the box and the store locations you order from.

TAKE NOTE: Some cities may have different prices than others.

Starbucks Box of Coffee

The price to expect on a standard Starbucks box of coffee is around $15.95 to $19.95, regardless of whichever blend you prefer.

This contains 96 ounces of brewed coffee that can keep warm for about 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the weather of the day.

You will be charged extra if you ask for milk alternatives and sweeteners apart from what usually comes with the set.

Starbucks Gallon Coffee

If you need a bigger serving size for a bigger crowd, you can opt for the Starbucks gallon coffee.

These boxes are available in 1-gallon, 2.5-gallon, or 5-gallon sizes.

Is Starbucks Coffee Traveler Worth Buying?

YES, it is definitely worth its price!

A cup of coffee at Starbucks will cost you anything around $4, depending on the size of the cup and the type of coffee beans used.

However, the price of a box that serves 12 cups of hot coffee is a great deal with big money savings!

Apart from that, you don’t have to bother asking about each person’s preferred coffee. The Coffee Traveler saves you a ton of time!

The ONLY DOWNSIDE we see is that you only get to choose one blend for the whole group. So it’s best to get the majority vote.

Overall, we think it’s still worth the price you are paying for. At the least, your guests can adjust the creamer and sugar they like in their coffee.

How to Purchase a Starbucks Coffee Traveler

According to the company, the most convenient way to order is through their website or app.

Whether you are at home, commuting, or at the office, all you have to do is scroll and order whatever you want!

When you order, make sure to indicate your preferred cup sizes, sugars, sweeteners, and creamers. You can also opt for milk alternatives and other add-ons for a fee.

Once you’ve placed an order, you can opt for delivery or pick up . This option may depend on location.

If you decide to pick up your order, call Starbucks and let them know when they should expect your arrival.

This is crucial because if they happen to prepare your order too early, your coffee will get cold. And if you don’t let them know soon enough, you’ll waste time waiting in line too.

The Different Types of Starbucks Coffee Travelers

You can choose from four different tastes available. These tastes depend on the coffee beans used and their roast.

We encourage getting the preference of the majority for a more satisfying experience.

1. Blonde Roast

(Veranda Blend, Bright Sky)

The Blonde roast is the go-to for coffee lovers who prefer a lighter and sweeter coffee roast. Easily, this is the most common roast type among Coffee Travelers because of its smooth texture.

This blend has a lighter flavor mixture of milk, sugar, vanilla, caramel, and hazelnut. If the majority of the crowd are not big espresso fans, then this flavor profile is a good choice.

2. Dark Roast

(Sumatra, Cafe Verona, Morning Joe, Espresso Roast, Italian Roast, French Roast)

Looking for a strong and rich blend to keep everyone alert through a tedious work day? The dark roast is your answer!

This blend is the STRONGEST tasting coffee roast among the four options.

It is the perfect choice if you have to travel early or have a meeting first thing in the morning when you need your senses fully awakened.

Many people, young and old, love this classic drink because its thickness screams CAFFEINE.

And at a very reasonable price, you even enjoy its delicious aroma that can fill up the room! Who would complain about that?

3. Pike Place Roast

(Breakfast Blend, Columbia, House Blend)

For anyone who likes a well-balanced coffee taste , you will never go wrong with the Pike Place Roast!

This blend was concocted by Starbucks’ master blenders and roasters back in 2008. It has been well-accepted and even dubbed to be one of the best by many consumers ever since.

Its taste is a perfect balance of semi-sweet and bitterness, with smooth and rich flavorful notes of cocoa and toasted nuts from Latin America.

It is not too strong and not too sweet. This drink can be consumed any time of the day.

4. Decaf Pike Place Roast

This is the decaf version of the Pike Place Roast. This is the go-to for people who love the taste of coffee but have a caffeine intolerance or just want something without the boost.

96% of its caffeine content might have been lost through the whole process, but it does not mean it loses its rich taste too.

The flavors of cocoa and nuts in Pike Place Roast are well preserved.

You can still enjoy great-tasting coffee without the risk of sleepless nights and palpitations!

The Pike Place Roast has a unique taste that is a perfect balance of semi-sweet and bitterness, with smooth and rich flavorful notes of cocoa and toasted nuts from Latin America.

It’s not too strong and not too sweet, making it the perfect drink to consume any time of the day.

4. Decaf Pike Place Roast

For those who love the taste of coffee but have a caffeine intolerance or want something without the caffeine boost, the Decaf Pike Place Roast is the perfect option.

  • It’s the decaffeinated version of the Pike Place Roast, and it features the same rich taste minus the caffeine content.
  • While 96% of its caffeine content might have been lost through the decaffeination process, it does not mean it loses its rich taste too.

The flavors of cocoa and nuts in Pike Place Roast are well preserved, ensuring that you can still enjoy great-tasting coffee without the risk of sleepless nights and palpitations!

Step 2: Determine the Size

The Coffee Traveler is available in one size, which is equivalent to twelve 8 fl oz cups or 96 fl oz in total.

Keep in mind that the Coffee Traveler is designed to serve a group, so it’s perfect for meetings or events.

If you’re not sure how much coffee you’ll need, a general rule of thumb is to assume that each person will drink about two cups of coffee.

You can also add any customizations, such as cream or sugar, at this time.

Starbucks offers a variety of options for customizing your coffee, so don’t be afraid to ask for what you want.

Whether you prefer your coffee black, with cream and sugar, or with a flavored syrup, Starbucks has something for everyone.

Do you need a lot of coffee for a meeting or a group gathering?

Starbucks has just the thing – a box of coffee called a coffee traveler.

But exactly how much is Starbucks coffee traveler?

In this article, we’ll dive into the world of Starbucks coffee travelers and answer that question, among others.

As a former barista myself, I’ll give you a few tips and tricks to make ordering travelers even easier.

Let’s get to it!

Table of Contents

How Much Is A Coffee Traveler From Starbucks?

A coffee traveler from Starbucks is the big, 96 oz coffee box that’s perfect for sharing in a meeting, with some friends, or some other get-together.

Where you order from will have an effect on the price of the coffee traveler. But coffee travelers from Starbucks usually run you between $15 and $25 .

That might sound expensive. But when you actually dive into what comes with the coffee traveler and how many coffees it has, it becomes a much better deal.

Starbucks Coffee Traveler: A Quick Glance

Let’s break down exactly what the coffee traveler is before we decide if it’s a good deal.

The Starbucks coffee traveler is a box of 96 oz of coffee . You can choose between four of Starbucks’ signature blends, including decaf . If you’re counting along, that’s 12 cups (8oz each) of coffee.

Simply put, the coffee traveler is the simplest and most convenient way to buy brewed coffee in bulk.

What Comes With a Starbucks Coffee Traveler?

The coffee traveler doesn’t just come with coffee, there are some accessories that you get, too.

When you order a coffee traveler box from Starbucks, you’ll get a handful of extras that are essential for the coffee experience. You’ll find yourself with the following:

  • The box of coffee. Yes, you’ll get the box and all the fresh coffee promised.
  • Small cups. You’ll get a stack of 8oz cups to go along with the coffee itself.
  • Lids. And yes, you’ll get enough lids for the cups too.
  • Stir sticks. These are the disposable wooden sticks you use to mix in cream and sugar.
  • Packets of sugar. Speaking of sugar, you’ll get a handful of sugar packets thrown in the mix.
  • Coffee cream. And usually, you’ll get a handful of individually packaged milk creamers.
  • Napkins. And the traveler wouldn’t be complete without a wad of napkins to finish everything off.

When you factor in everything that comes with a traveler, it actually turns into a very good deal. Especially considering that a regular cup of coffee at a Starbucks store usually costs $2.75. But with the traveler, that price is closer to $1 per coffee cup.

How to Order Starbucks Coffee Traveler?

Maybe the easiest way to order the Starbucks coffee traveler is through the Starbucks app . You can do all the customization and special requests through the app. Plus, it gives the baristas time to fulfill your order.

And please, please order travelers ahead of time when possible. As a former barista, I can tell you that nothing is worse than someone stepping up to the counter on a busy morning and ordering a traveler.

Whenever possible, order ahead of time to save you and your baristas a ton of time.

If you can’t order through the Starbucks app, calling the Starbucks location ahead will usually work just fine. Just make sure you know which coffee and which extras you want to make the process smoother.

For example, when you order, you can say something like, “I’d like a coffee traveler of the Blonde Roast with all the extras.”

That will ensure you get exactly what you’re looking for in the shortest time.

Types of Coffee Travelers

How much is starbucks coffee traveler

You might have noticed that I mentioned getting a Blonde Roast coffee traveler. That’s because there are actually four different coffees you can order in a traveler.

Each of Starbucks’ signature roasts is available to a traveler, including decaf. Let’s briefly take a look at each of those and why you might choose one over the other.

Veranda Blend Blonde Roast

This is Starbucks’ lightest roast of coffee beans. That means it has more acidity and brighter notes than all the other coffees available from Starbucks.

You’ll find that the Veranda Blend has notes of toasted malt and baking chocolate.

If you’re a fan of brighter coffees or coffees with more interesting flavors, I’d recommend trying the Veranda Blend. It’s a great coffee for a group that doesn’t like a lot of cream or sugar and just wants a good, solid cup of black coffee.

It’s not a great choice for a group that wants a lot of cream and sugar or wants a more traditional, diner-style coffee.

Starbucks’ Dark Roast is the polar opposite of the Veranda Blonde Roast. It’s dark, rich, bold, and intense. It’s a really strong coffee . You’ll find notes strong notes with balanced flavors.

If you’re looking for a coffee with a full body and a smooth taste, the Dark Roast is the way to go.

It’s the best option for a group that likes a lot of cream and sugar or that prefers a diner-style cup of coffee. You’ll have no shortage of deep robust coffee if you order the Dark Roast Traveler.

It’s not a great choice for a group that likes lighter black coffee. And I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re looking for interesting and unique flavors. The Dark Roast prioritizes richness over unique flavor .

Pike Place Roast

Pike Place Roast

Pike Place Roast is Starbucks’ medium roast and probably the best and safest option for ordering coffee travelers for a big group.

Pike Place is one of Starbucks’ oldest blends, and it remains one of the most popular. You’ll find a perfect balance of rich coffee flavors with a bit of brightness. That balance makes it a versatile coffee that’s delicious black and with a little cream and sugar.

There are notes of chocolate and toasted nuts.

This coffee is probably my top choice for coffee travelers simply because it caters to the widest range of palates. Everyone will enjoy Pike Place because it tastes great, with or without cream and sugar.

There really isn’t a downside to ordering the Pike Place Traveler.

Decaf Pike Place Roast

And yes, Starbucks does offer the decaf version of Pike Place as a coffee traveler option.

This is the best (and only) choice for a decaf version of a coffee traveler. You’ll still find the Pike Place flavors of chocolate and toasted nuts, just without caffeine .

Now, I wouldn’t recommend ordering a decaf traveler every single time. But if you have a handful of folks who prefer drinking decaf coffee, then this is the best way to go.

However, it’s not a good choice if only one or two people in your group want decaf coffee. It’s more economical to buy them individual cups rather than an entire coffee traveler.

FAQs About How Much Is Starbucks Coffee Traveler

Let’s answer a few last-minute questions you probably still have about Starbucks’ coffee travelers.

Can I Order A Starbucks Traveler Ahead Of Time?

Yes, you can absolutely order Starbucks travelers ahead of time. In fact, I’d go so far as to say you should order ahead of time.

Ordering ahead will save you and your baristas a lot of time, and you’ll get your coffee quicker.

Does My Hot Coffee Stay Warm Until It Arrives?

The coffee in a box will stay warm for a little bit longer than regular coffee in a paper cup. You’ll have a couple of hours to drink the Traveler before the coffee goes too cold to enjoy.

Does Starbucks Have Tea Travelers?

Starbucks doesn’t have tea Travelers on the menu, but you can order a Traveler with hot water and tea bags on the side. Just be sure to communicate with your barista what you want!

Final Thoughts

A Starbucks coffee traveler is the best and easiest way to order coffee for a large group.

You’ll get a 96 oz box of coffee in one of four of Starbucks’ classic roasts. And you’ll get all the extras needed to make your experience great.

And it’s actually a better deal than ordering individual cups of coffee. Depending on where you are, a coffee traveler will run anywhere from $15-25.

Starbucks Coffee Traveler: What is it & How Does it Work?

The Starbucks coffee traveler is a pack of 12 cups (or sometimes more) of Starbucks coffees. It’s a fantastic idea for work meetings or get togethers with friends.

This menu item has always stood out to me as an awesome way to get the best catering from Starbucks. So I took some time to find out more about it, and my findings are coming right up.

I’ll be covering the following subjects in this article:

Shall we begin?

Key Takeaways

Here are the main things to know about the Starbucks coffee traveler:

  • The basic traveler consists of 12 cups of cup coffee
  • You can choose from four different coffee roasts
  • Larger sizes are available in some Starbucks stores
  • It’s possible to replace regular dairy milk for alternatives
  • You’ll get sugar, stirrers etc. in the pack

The Starbucks Coffee Traveler Defined

The Starbucks coffee traveler is a carrier box filled with 96 fl oz of various Starbucks coffee blends. That works out to 12 cups of 8 fl oz cups of coffee.

In some parts of the US, Starbucks also offers large sizes for its coffee travelers. Certain coffee shops will have a 16 serving box, a 40 serving box and even an 80 serving box.

You’ll be able to choose which coffee blend you get as we’ll find out in the next section. But it is limited to just the regular coffee drinks at this time. You won’t be able to get the likes of lattes and cappuccinos or any iced drinks.

It comes in a neat box that also features the following most of the time:

  • Sugar sachets
  • Stirring sticks

The milk is dairy but you can order milk alternatives like almond and oat for an extra price. Make sure to do that at the time you place your order (more on how to do that later on).

Another great feature of the box is that it helps to keep your coffee warm. Starbucks claims that the coffees will be warm to a suitable drinking temperature anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours.

I’ve yet to validate this claim myself as I just wanted to drink the coffee! But it does sound like it would make a difference to the experience. You certainly won’t have to rush to the park or the office so quickly with this in mind.

The Starbucks Coffee Traveler coffee blends

Right now, you’ll be able to order the Starbucks coffee traveler in any of the following flavors [ 1 ]:

  • Veranda Blend: This is the lightest of Starbucks’s three caffeinated coffee roasts. But interestingly, it has a little more caffeine content than the others, even with its lighter taste.
  • Dark Roast: This is the one to go for if you prefer your coffee with a darker taste. The rich aroma will wake you up just as much as the extra caffeine in the Veranda blend!
  • Pike Place Roast: This is the most classic blend coffee from Starbucks. It’s the one you’d get in the coffee shop if you didn’t specify which roast you wanted, and it tastes awesome.
  • Decaf Pike Place Roast: The signature Starbucks blend but with no caffeine! A great option for those who aren’t into being caffeinated or for the late afternoon or night time coffee sessions.

You can find out more about coffee roasts in this article .

Starbucks Coffee Traveler Pricing and Availability

The average price of the standard Starbucks Coffee Traveler in the US right now is $25. If you were to buy each cup of coffee separately, it would cost you $36, so I think this is a good value for money offering. Especially when you get the box etc.

You’ll have to pay a little extra if you want to get milk alternatives such as soya or almond though.

For the larger size coffee travelers, the price also varies for each location. But on average, they seem to cost around $20, $45 and $90 for the 16 serving box, 40 serving box and 80 serving box respectively. The prices are pretty good value for money if you ask me!

Who the Starbucks Coffee Traveler is Best For

The Starbucks Coffee Traveler is a fantastic idea for work parties or if you’re getting together with friends or family.

I think it would be a fun idea for meetings in the office, picnics in the park or any other occasion where you simply want to drink some coffee with a few friends or acquaintances.

When you consider that a regular 8 fl oz cup of coffee at Starbucks costs around $3 on average for the US, you’ll realize that the Starbucks Coffee Traveler is worth it based on money alone. We’ll cover those prices in the next section.

And, it comes in a handy box for transportation. You might not get that if you order your coffees separately!

Starbucks Coffee Traveler Pricing Around the World

Here’s a quick look at the prices you can expect to pay for coffee travelers around the world by comparison to the price of the US one.

Remember, the coffee traveler is only available in a few limited countries.

*India does not appear to offer a 12 cup coffee traveler. The largest size that’s available is the 8 cup, and the price is listed here.

How to Sign Up and Get the Starbucks Coffee Traveler

There are a few different ways to get your Starbucks Coffee Traveler. And, you can get it there and then. You won’t have to order it in advance.

Here are your options:

  • In the store: Simply go up to the counter and order your Starbucks Coffee Traveler from a member of staff. The downside to this method is that you’ll have to wait a little longer for your traveler to be ready.
  • Through the app: You can save some time by downloading the Starbucks mobile app and ordering to your local store from there. This way, it can be waiting for you when you arrive if you time it right.
  • On the website: The app is going to be better for mobile users but if you want to order from a desktop computer then simply go over to the Starbucks website.
  • Over the phone: Some stores will let you call your order in while you’re on the way over to collect it. You’ll need to obtain the number from your local store to do this, and you should be able to find that online.

After you’ve placed your order, you’ll need to head to your local store to collect it if you’re not there already. Starbucks doesn’t offer a delivery service at this time.

It could, however, be possible to place an order through certain food and drink courier services like Uber Eats and Doordash in certain parts of the US. If you want your coffee remotely, it could be worth checking out their apps to see if the traveler is on the menu.

Make sure to add on any milk alternatives that you might want at the time you place the order as well.

Starbucks Coffee Traveler FAQ

People have been wanting to know the following things about the Starbucks coffee traveler:

Is Starbucks going to add to its coffee traveler menu in the future?

At this stage in time, Starbucks does not appear to have any plans to add extra types of coffee or sizes to its traveler. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some new additions in time to come though.

How long will the Starbucks coffee traveler take to prepare?

It could take a few minutes for your traveler to be prepared, especially if you order one of the larger sizes. That’s why I recommend ordering ahead from the app, the site or over the phone.

Wrapping Up on the Starbucks Coffee Traveler

The Starbucks Coffee Traveler is a great menu item for anyone who wants to serve coffee to 12 or more people at once. It offers great value, although slightly limited choice in terms of coffees.

I’d recommend it for any work meetings, gatherings with friends or other get-togethers of a dozen or more people.

But remember, you don’t have to buy a Starbucks coffee traveler to enjoy a few coffees with friends. You can make them from the comfort of your own home if you buy one of the best coffee makers .

What is Starbucks Coffee Traveler?

The Starbucks Coffee Traveler is an ingenious solution by Starbucks, aimed at serving the coffee needs of groups. Whether you have an office meeting, a family reunion, or any gathering where individual cups of coffee would be cumbersome, the Coffee Traveler steps in as a savior. It offers a convenient way to bring the much-loved Starbucks coffee to larger audiences. Built with a design that emphasizes both functionality and aesthetics, the Coffee Traveler ensures that the Starbucks experience isn’t diluted, even when the serving size becomes expansive.

Beyond its group-serving functionality, the Coffee Traveler also signifies Starbucks’ commitment to innovation. At its core, Starbucks has always been about serving delicious coffee, and the Coffee Traveler is an embodiment of this ethos. It’s not just a container but a vessel that brings people together, ensuring that everyone gets their fair share of high-quality coffee, regardless of the setting.

What Comes With a Starbucks Coffee Traveler?

When you order a Starbucks Coffee Traveler, you’re not just getting a container filled with coffee. Along with the approximately one-gallon container of your chosen coffee blend, Starbucks also provides a set of individual cups, creamers, sugar, stir sticks, and napkins. Essentially, it’s a portable Starbucks station, designed to serve about twelve 8-ounce cups of coffee .

The inclusion of these additional items underscores Starbucks’ attention to detail. They understand that serving coffee to a group involves more than just the brew. From the cup to the last granule of sugar, everything has to be perfect. With the Coffee Traveler package, Starbucks ensures that hosts or organizers don’t have to scramble for accessories at the last minute. Everything required for a perfect coffee serving is right there, packed with the same care and attention that goes into brewing the coffee itself.

Ordering and Pricing

How to order starbucks coffee traveler.

Ordering a Starbucks Coffee Traveler is a breeze. If you’re familiar with placing an order at Starbucks, this won’t be any different. You can either visit a Starbucks outlet in person or, for added convenience, call them in advance. Given that the Coffee Traveler is designed for group settings, placing an order ahead of time ensures that it’s ready for pick-up when you arrive, minimizing wait times.

For those who prefer a digital touchpoint, many Starbucks outlets allow orders through the Starbucks app or their website. When placing an order, you’ll be prompted to choose your preferred coffee blend and specify any customizations if needed. Whether you’re in-store, on the phone, or online, the Starbucks team is there to guide you, ensuring that your Coffee Traveler order is precise to your liking.

How Much Is Starbucks Coffee Traveler?

The exact price of a Starbucks Coffee Traveler can vary based on location, the specific coffee blend chosen, and any additional customizations. On average, as of my last update in 2021, a Coffee Traveler cost somewhere around $15 to $30. However, given the inflation and regional pricing differences, it’s always a good idea to check the current price with your local Starbucks outlet.

What makes the Coffee Traveler a cost-effective solution is when you break down the price per cup. Serving about twelve 8-ounce cups, the per-cup cost often turns out to be significantly lower than if you were to order individual cups of coffee. For gatherings and meetings, this not only ensures premium coffee for everyone but also translates to savings.

How to Pick the Right Flavor?

Starbucks offers a plethora of coffee blends, each with its unique taste profile. When choosing a blend for the Coffee Traveler, it’s essential to consider the preferences of the group you’re serving. If unsure, there are some popular and universally loved options like the Pike Place Roast, which often appeals to a broad audience.

For those who prefer a lighter, milder flavor, the Blonde Roast options like Veranda Blend or Bright Sky might be ideal. On the other hand, if the group leans towards a bolder coffee experience, the Dark Roast options such as Sumatra or Italian Roast could be perfect. It’s also possible to order a decaffeinated version with the Decaf Pike Place Roast.

If still in doubt, the Starbucks staff, with their extensive knowledge of coffee profiles, can be invaluable. Brief them about the group’s general preferences, and they can guide you toward a blend that would likely be a hit. Remember, the right coffee blend can make all the difference, elevating the entire experience.

Types of Coffee Travelers

Blonde roast (veranda blend, bright sky).

Blonde Roast represents Starbucks’ lighter side, providing coffee that is mellow yet flavorful. This roast characteristically features a light body with nuances that are both vibrant and crisp. The Veranda Blend is a prime example of a Blonde Roast, known for its gentle and light profile with subtle hints of cocoa and toasted nuts. It’s especially suited for those mornings when you seek a calm start or for gatherings where attendees might be new to the world of coffee. Another notable mention is the Bright Sky blend. It mirrors the fresh enthusiasm of a clear morning sky and has a taste profile that is clean and bright with hints of citrus. These options are for those who appreciate the subtler and softer notes in their coffee.

Pike Place Roast (Breakfast Blend, Columbia, House Blend)

Pike Place Roast is perhaps one of the most recognized coffee blends from Starbucks. Named after the first Starbucks store’s original location, this roast celebrates Starbucks’ rich history. It offers a smooth body with subtle notes of cocoa and toasted nuts, making it a favorite among many. Branching from the Pike Place Roast are other remarkable blends. The Breakfast Blend offers a tangy flavor with a light finish, making it the perfect cup to kickstart your day. Columbia , on the other hand, boasts a balanced and nutty flavor, representing the rich coffee culture of Latin America. The House Blend , with its hearty and full-bodied flavor, features notes of spices and nuts, perfect for those seeking a classic coffee experience.

Decaf Pike Place Roast

For those who crave the taste of Starbucks coffee but want to avoid caffeine, the Decaf Pike Place Roast is a lifesaver. This blend captures the essence of the signature Pike Place Roast but comes without caffeine. Crafted with care, it ensures that you don’t miss out on the rich flavors while keeping caffeine at bay. It’s perfect for evening gatherings or for those who are sensitive to caffeine but can’t resist a delicious cup of coffee.

Dark Roast (Sumatra, Cafe Verona, Morning Joe, Espresso Roast, Italian Roast, French Roast)

The Dark Roast category showcases Starbucks’ bold side. This range features beans that have been roasted longer, allowing for a deep and robust flavor profile. Starting with Sumatra , this blend has a full body with spicy and herbal notes, making it unique and sought-after. Cafe Verona is a romantic blend, dark with a sweet finish and notes of dark chocolate, making it perfect for after-dinner conversations. Morning Joe , as the name suggests, is a vibrant blend to jumpstart the day, offering a bold and rich flavor profile. Espresso Roast is the heart of Starbucks’ handcrafted espresso drinks and carries a robust flavor with caramel notes. Italian Roast is intense with a deep flavor, suited for those who love their coffee strong. Lastly, the French Roast is Starbucks’ darkest and boldest roast, smoky and singular, the pure essence of a profound coffee experience.

Features and Benefits

What are the sizes of starbucks coffee traveler containers available.

Starbucks Coffee Traveler is tailored for group settings, making it an optimal choice for meetings, gatherings, or events. The standard size that many people are familiar with is designed to hold approximately a gallon of coffee, enough to serve around twelve 8-ounce cups. This makes it especially useful when looking to cater to a group without the hassle of multiple individual cups. Its design ensures that everyone in the group has access to their caffeine fix, and it seamlessly integrates into various settings, from corporate meetings to family reunions.

Moreover, this gallon-sized container is not only about quantity. Starbucks, being a brand that takes pride in its coffee, ensures that the quality of the brew remains consistent, even in this larger serving option. While this is the standard size generally available, it’s always a good idea to check with your local Starbucks location for any additional sizes or customized options they might offer.

Does it Stay Warm until it Arrives?

One of the paramount concerns for many people when ordering bulk coffee is the temperature. Nobody likes lukewarm coffee, especially when it’s from a premium brand like Starbucks. The Starbucks Coffee Traveler is designed to retain heat for an extended period. From the moment it’s brewed until it reaches your hands, the coffee remains piping hot, ensuring that the first sip is as warm and refreshing as the last.

This is essential not just for the taste but also for events where there might be a delay between when the coffee arrives and when it’s served. With the Coffee Traveler, hosts or event organizers can rest assured that their guests will receive hot coffee whenever they decide to pour a cup.

Is The Starbucks Coffee Traveler Insulated?

Certainly, insulation is at the heart of Starbucks Coffee Traveler’s design. The container features double-wall insulation, which plays a pivotal role in maintaining the temperature of the coffee. This insulation ensures that the external conditions, whether it’s the cold of winter or the heat of summer, have minimal impact on the coffee’s temperature.

Insulation is not just about heat retention. It also ensures safety. Given that the coffee is hot, the insulation ensures that the container’s external surface remains comfortable to touch. This dual-purpose design – retaining heat and ensuring safety – exemplifies Starbucks’ commitment to delivering the best experience to its customers.

Is There Any Other Drink Type That Can Be Stored In The Starbucks Coffee Traveler?

While the Starbucks Coffee Traveler is primarily designed for coffee, Starbucks understands that not everyone is a coffee enthusiast. To cater to a broader range of customers, Starbucks allows for other hot beverages, such as hot chocolate or even tea, to be ordered in the traveler. This flexibility ensures that irrespective of the drink preference, everyone has an option.

It’s worth noting that the container’s insulation and design features remain consistent, irrespective of the beverage inside. So, whether it’s a hot chocolate for a children’s party or tea for a meeting, the Starbucks Coffee Traveler ensures that the drink remains hot and the taste uncompromised.

Maintenance and Care

Cleaning and maintenance tips.

Maintaining the Starbucks Coffee Traveler is relatively straightforward. Given that it’s a container designed for one-time use, deep cleaning isn’t required. However, if you’re looking to reuse it for personal purposes, it’s advised to rinse it out with hot water immediately after use. This ensures that no coffee grounds or residue remain. If any stains persist, a mild detergent can be used. It’s always a good idea to keep the lid off when not in use to allow it to air out.

It’s important to note that Starbucks Coffee Traveler isn’t designed for multiple reuses. Its primary function is to provide a convenient way to carry and serve coffee in group settings. However, a quick clean after use ensures that it can be recycled properly, aligning with Starbucks’ commitment to sustainability.

Troubleshooting Tips

If you find that the coffee isn’t staying warm as expected, it’s essential to ensure that the lid is properly secured. Any gaps can lead to heat escaping. Additionally, while the container is insulated, placing it in extremely cold environments can accelerate the cooling process. It’s recommended to keep it in a neutral environment to maintain temperature.

If there’s a leakage issue, it’s crucial to check for any visible damage to the container or the lid. In such cases, transferring the contents to another container might be necessary to prevent further spillage. If any problems persist or if the coffee doesn’t taste right, it’s always best to contact the Starbucks outlet from where it was purchased.

Can I Reheat The Starbucks Coffee Travelers?

The Starbucks Coffee Traveler is not designed to be reheated. Its primary purpose is to maintain the temperature of the coffee for several hours. If you find that the coffee has cooled down beyond preference, it’s advised to transfer the required amount to a microwave-safe container for reheating. Directly microwaving or heating the Coffee Traveler isn’t recommended, as it could compromise the integrity of the container and, in turn, the safety of the beverage. Always prioritize safety and taste over convenience in such scenarios.

Is it Worth It?

Investing in a Starbucks Coffee Traveler isn’t just about getting coffee; it’s about the experience. With its combination of convenience, quality, and quantity, the traveler emerges as a great option for those looking to serve coffee to a group without compromising on any aspect. When you factor in the cost per cup, especially compared to individual orders, the value proposition becomes even clearer.

Final thoughts

Whether you’re planning an office meeting, a family gathering, or just want to surprise your team with high-quality coffee, the Starbucks Coffee Traveler is your go-to option. With its ease of use, range of flavor options, and the consistent quality that Starbucks is known for, there’s every reason to consider this for your next event. The next time you’re pondering coffee options for your gathering, remember the traveler – where premium coffee meets unparalleled convenience.

How Much Coffee Can A Starbucks Coffee Traveler Hold?

A typical Starbucks Coffee Traveler can hold about one gallon of coffee. This is the equivalent of roughly twelve 8-ounce servings. Designed for meetings, events, and gatherings, the traveler ensures that everyone in your group can enjoy a substantial serving of their favorite Starbucks brew.

Does The Starbucks Coffee Traveler Come With A Lid, Or Is It Sold Separately?

Every Starbucks Coffee Traveler comes equipped with a lid, ensuring the coffee remains warm and minimizing the risk of spillage. The design is intentional, focusing not just on convenience but also on delivering the best coffee experience possible, even when it’s on the go.

Is The Material Used To Make A Starbucks Coffee Traveler BPA Free?

Starbucks is committed to customer health and safety. The containers used for the coffee travelers are indeed BPA free. This ensures that your coffee is not only delicious but also free from potential harmful chemicals.

Does Starbucks Have Tea Travelers?

Yes, Starbucks does cater to tea lovers as well. Recognizing the diverse preferences of their clientele, Starbucks offers a Tea Traveler. Just like the coffee version, the Tea Traveler is designed to provide high-quality tea in a convenient and large container suitable for events or groups.

Can I Order A Starbucks Traveler Ahead Of Time?

Absolutely! To ensure convenience, many Starbucks outlets accept advance orders for the Coffee Traveler. This is particularly useful if you’re planning for a larger event or wish to ensure your coffee is fresh and ready right when you need it. Just call your local Starbucks ahead of time to place your order.

How long does the Starbucks coffee traveler stay hot for?

Thanks to the double-wall insulation of the Starbucks Coffee Traveler, the coffee stays hot for several hours. Typically, you can expect your coffee to remain warm for about 3-4 hours, although the exact duration might vary based on external conditions.

How much coffee is in a traveler at Starbucks?

A Starbucks Coffee Traveler typically contains enough coffee to serve approximately twelve 8-ounce cups, which is roughly 96 ounces in total. This makes it a convenient choice for serving larger groups or meetings where multiple servings are required.

What does a Starbucks coffee traveler come with?

When you order a Starbucks Coffee Traveler, you receive more than just the coffee itself. The package typically includes the brewed coffee inside the container, as well as a set of twelve 8-ounce cups. Additionally, Starbucks provides essential accompaniments such as lids, sugar, stir sticks, creamers, and napkins. It’s a comprehensive package ensuring you have everything you need to serve and enjoy the coffee.

Starbuck Box of Coffee: The Traveler. Here’s Exactly What You Get (Photos)

Starbucks traveller box of coffee and everything it comes with

Need to order a Starbucks box of coffee for work, church, a gathering or some other event? Here’s what you need to know!

The Starbucks traveler box of coffee comes with 96 ounces of coffee , which is enough for 12 separate 8 oz cups of coffee . It comes with the cups and the lids . It also comes with an array of sweetener options and stir sticks. And finally, it comes with a full cup of half and half with a lid and a stopper .

The empty box part on the side of the Starbucks traveler is where the stack of cups fits, and the full cup of half and half. The sweeteners and the sticks come in a bag that they hand to you with the box.

So you’ll literally have everything you need for people to drink black coffee, coffee with half and half, and several choices of sweetener including regular sugar, sugar in the raw, stevia in the raw, and Splenda.

A loaded Starbucks traveler box of coffee and bag of sweeteners inside a Starbucks store

At the Starbucks I ordered from in Dallas, it was a flat $20 plus tax. But when they rang it up at a different Starbucks in Dallas where it turned out they were out of boxes and we had to cancel the order, I thought I remember it being $22. Maybe the $22 includes sales tax and that’s the difference. But your price should be somewhere around there.

This is the same price as a Dunkin’ Traveler box of coffee , so it’s a pretty good deal. McDonald’s doesn’t even sell a box of coffee anymore , so Dunkin’ and Starbucks are your top choices here.

I bought mine with standard Pike roast. You can also choose the other drip coffees that they offer like Dark Roast, Blonde Roast or Decaf.

When you order, they might make you wait a little bit for it. It took about 5 or 10 minutes to get mine, because they have to make sure they have enough drip coffee brewed to fill it, and then fill the box and prepare the other stuff that goes with it.

The coffee inside the box should stay hot at least half an hour to an hour if it’s full, because there’s a lot of liquid that sort of warms itself.

You can order the traveler with your Starbucks app, so you can order it 20 minutes ahead of time and pick it up when it’s ready and not have to wait inside the store like I did.

If I needed to bring coffee to a meeting or some other gathering, I would be happy with the coffee from either Starbucks or Dunkin’, because they both serve pretty good coffee. I would probably choose based on which store was closer to me and easier to pick up from.

But you know your own audience. If your friends or coworkers would be disappointed with Dunkin’ but excited about Starbucks or vice versa, I recommend choosing based on what they prefer. You’re going to be popular, bringing the coffee!

How to Pick the Right Flavor?

Starbucks has lots of different coffee flavors for you to try. If you’re not sure which one you’ll like, you can ask the person making your coffee (called a barista) for their suggestion. They can recommend something based on what you usually like.

You can also visit the Starbucks website to read about each flavor and see which one might taste best for you.

Does it Stay Warm until it Arrives?

The coffee from Starbucks stays warm for about two hours after it’s brewed and put into the cups. This time starts counting from when the brewing finishes.

But remember, the weather where you are matters too. If it’s really hot outside, the coffee will stay hot for longer. If it’s cold, it might not stay as warm when it gets to you.

When you order is also important. If you need the coffee for a 10 am meeting, make sure to order it around 9 am. That way, when it arrives, the meeting will have just started, and you’ll still have hot coffee to serve.

How To Build Starbucks Coffee Traveler? Step-by-Step

How To Build Starbucks Coffee Traveler?

Here’s how to build a Starbucks Coffee Traveler:

  • Step 1: Get a Starbucks Coffee Traveler box from a Starbucks store. If you can’t find it there, you can also buy similar boxes from Amazon. I suggest one that’s well-liked and rated 4.3 stars. They come in two sizes: a smaller one holding 96 oz of coffee and a larger one holding 160 oz. Buying online is easy!
  • Step 2: Open the box and put the lid aside. Then, carefully unfold the handle and lock it into place.
  • Step 3: Pour hot water into the box. You’ll need about 96 ounces of water to fill it up.
  • Step 4: Add the coffee grounds to the water. Use around 2.5 ounces of coffee grounds for every 8 ounces of water.
  • Step 5: Stir the coffee and water well until they mix properly.
  • Step 6: Put the lid back on securely.
  • Step 7: Finally, add milk or cream to your liking. You can also put in sugar or sweetener if you want.

That’s it! Your Starbucks Coffee Traveler is all set. Just grab the handle and take it with you to your next meeting, picnic, or event. Your friends or team will love the tasty and easy coffee

Types Of Starbucks Coffee Travelers

There are four different flavors you can pick from. These flavors come from the type of coffee beans and how they’re roasted.

It’s a good idea to choose the flavor that most people like to make sure everyone enjoys it.

Blonde Roast

Blonde Roast

The Blonde Roast is Starbucks’ lightest roast coffee. It is mild, soft and has a smooth texture, making it a favorite among Coffee Travelers. Some tasting notes described include mellow, soft, and easy-drinking. The Blonde Roast Coffee Traveler is perfect for those who prefer light roasted coffees. It makes a great crowd pleaser at the office or for brunch.

Dark Roast

On the opposite end, Starbucks also offers Dark Roast Coffee Travelers, making it a perfect choice for those who need an extra boost in the morning. The dark roasts are bolder, fuller-bodied, and can have slightly more bitterness. Tasting notes may include rich, dark chocolate and toasted nuts. Popular dark roasts are the Starbucks House Blend, Veranda Blend or Sumatra coffees, as well as their signature espresso roast. The deep smoky flavor stands up well with extras like cream or sweeteners.

Pike Place Roast

Pike Place Roast

The Pike Place Roast is Starbucks’ signature medium roast blend, perfect for any time of day. It is smooth, balanced and flavorful showcasing notes of cocoa and toasted nuts. This versatile, crowd-pleasing blend works for Coffee Travelers at a wide range events requiring an accessible flavor and perfect balance. As Starbucks’ best-selling coffee, the Pike Place Roast is continuously kept fresh.

Decaf Pike Place Roast

Decaf Pike Place Roast

This Coffee Traveler features the familiar mellow flavors of the Pike Place Roast customers love, just without the caffeine. All the comfort of Starbucks’ global, signature blend specially crafted as decaffeinated for those who want great flavor but no stimulation. It allows more people to enjoy this popular coffee offering, including the Decaf Pike Place Roast, Italian Roast, and French Roast, into the evenings. The Decaf Pike Place Roast Coffee Traveler caters to all dietary preferences.

Does Starbucks Coffee Traveler Caters Hot Chocolate or Tea?

Starbucks Coffee Travelers aren’t suitable for hot chocolate due to the cups’ material, which doesn’t mix well with milk.

However, Starbucks does provide Tea Travelers containing hot water and tea bags. These Coffee Travelers are disposable containers holding 96 fl oz and include 12 cups, stir sticks, and sugar for brewed coffee.

The coffee stays warm for about two hours, and extra items like milk alternatives and sweeteners may have additional charges. Also, Starbucks doesn’t offer catering services with baristas or product delivery for events.

Tips for Cost Savings When Buying Starbucks Coffee Traveler

Tips for Cost Savings When Buying Starbucks Coffee Traveler

Here are some useful tips for getting cost savings when purchasing a Starbucks Coffee Traveler:

  • Order larger size – The per cup cost decreases significantly when you order larger Starbucks Coffee Travelers with 20 cups vs the 12 or 16 cup sizes.
  • Share with friends – Get a group together to split the cost and cups on the day you need an office or event coffee order. Everyone benefits from the bulk discount.
  • Use coupons & promotions – Check both the Starbucks app and website for any current discounts, promo codes or seasonal offers that may reduce a Coffee Traveler order total.
  • Enroll in rewards program – As a Starbucks Rewards member you can earn free products with regular purchases. Save up rewards to redeem against Coffee Traveler orders.
  • Order regular coffee – It is cheaper to order regular Pike Place or House Blend in a Coffee Traveler vs specialty drinks like lattes or mochas. Add your own flavors & creamers.
  • Provide your own accessories – Bring your own paper cups, creamers, sweeteners, stir sticks instead of adding Starbucks’ branded options to your order.
  • Watch happy hours – During weekday afternoon Happy Hours, Starbucks sometimes offers discounts up to 50% off certain coffee orders which applies to Coffee Travelers too!
  • Request end of day markdowns – If ordering near store closing hours, kindly ask if there are any Coffee Travelers that can be marked down due to expiration. Score savings!

How Many Servings Does Starbucks Coffee Traveler Provide?

A Starbucks Coffee Traveler can give you about 10 to 12 cups of coffee. It holds up to 96 fluid ounces, which is around 2.8 liters, whether you want your drink hot or cold. It comes with cups, stir sticks, sugar, lids, cream, and sweeteners, making it a convenient and customizable option on the Starbucks menu. You can use the Traveler for meetings, picnics, or any other events. In some places in the US, Starbucks has even bigger sizes for their coffee travelers, allowing customers to choose their preferred cup sizes for their coffee needs.

Is buying a Starbucks Coffee Traveler Worth the Cost?

Is buying a Starbucks Coffee Traveler Worth the Cost?

The Starbucks Coffee Traveler could be worth buying if you need coffee for many people. It might save you money compared to buying individual cups of coffee. It’s priced between $3 and $5, includes cups, stir sticks, and sugar, and serves about 12 people. People recommend it for work meetings, gatherings with friends, vacations, picnics, or other events with lots of people.

However, it’s important to note that the price of a Coffee Traveler may vary depending on the location and blend you choose, with an average cost of $15.95 to $19.95 for a 96-ounce box of coffee.

However, some say it has fewer coffee options to choose from, which could be a drawback. Overall, if you’re serving a large group, it could be a good choice.

FAQ’s:

Does starbucks have tea travelers.

Starbucks does not currently offer tea travelers in their menu options. While they primarily focus on coffee travelers for large group gatherings, tea lovers can explore brewed tea options at local stores. For tea catering needs, reaching out to the local store directly is recommended. The Starbucks app or website can be explored for available tea options.

Can I Order A Starbucks Traveler in advance?

Yes, it’s a great idea to order ahead because each Starbucks store has only a few coffee makers available. If you want your drinks ready and hot by 9 AM for your meeting, it’s best to place your online order about an hour before to ensure everything’s ready on time.

Is Starbucks going to add to its coffee traveler menu in the future?

Right now, Starbucks doesn’t seem to have any plans to include more kinds of coffee or sizes for its traveler. But who knows? They might add some new options in the future.

How long will the Starbucks coffee traveler take to prepare?

It might take a little while to get your traveler ready, especially if you order a bigger size. That’s why I suggest ordering in advance using the app, website, or phone.

Can I reheat the Starbucks coffee travellers?

You can’t reheat Starbucks Coffee Travelers in the microwave as they’re not microwave-safe. The inside coating, made of wax and plastic, keeps drinks warm but can’t handle microwave heat. To keep the coffee fresh, Starbucks suggests using a thermal carafe or an airtight thermos. Any leftover coffee can be frozen into coffee ice cubes to avoid waste and keep it for later use.

How Long does the Starbucks Coffee Traveler Stay Hot For?

Starbucks Coffee Travelers can keep coffee warm for about two hours. Usually, the coffee stays warm enough to drink for around 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the weather. Some folks mention that during hot seasons, like summer, the coffee might stay hot for more than 45 minutes. This to-go container holds 96 ounces of fresh coffee, which equals 12 cups. Some people ask for their drink to be “ extra hot ” to make it last longer, but it’s safer to order it up to 180 degrees to prevent milk from scalding or causing burns.

Can I Mix Different Beverage Flavors in the Same Traveler?

Mixing different beverage flavors in the same Starbucks Coffee Traveler is allowed. You can choose up to two coffee blends, hot chocolate flavors, or tea flavors in a single traveler. However, it’s important to choose flavors that complement each other well for the best taste experience.

What Size Cups Can I Use?

Starbucks Coffee Travelers come in two sizes: 96 oz and 192 oz. The 96 oz size includes 12 disposable cups, while the 192 oz size includes 24 disposable cups. While Starbucks recommends using their branded cups for best results, you can also use your own cups as long as they fit the opening of the traveler.

Can The Traveler Be Refilled During An Event?

Yes, the Starbucks Coffee Traveler can be refilled during an event. You can simply take the empty container back to the store and ask for a refill. It’s a convenient and cost-effective option compared to buying multiple individual drinks. Keep in mind that refills may vary depending on the availability at different Starbucks locations.

Are There Any Special Instructions I Should Follow When Using a Starbucks Traveler?

Here are some special instructions for using a Starbucks Traveler:

  • Sizes: It comes with 12 oz cups for cold drinks and 16 oz cups for hot drinks. You can also bring your own cups if you prefer.
  • Folding: Follow the box’s directions to fold the traveler correctly.
  • Drinks: It keeps your drinks warm or cold until the last sip, which is pretty cool!
  • Coffee: You can pick from four different types of coffee.
  • Dairy: You can swap regular milk with other options if you want.
  • Other: The Traveler includes cups, stir sticks, sugar, cream, sweeteners, lids, and creamer, all for about 12 people to enjoy.

In conclusion, the Starbucks Coffee Traveler is a convenient option for those who need to serve a large group of people with quality coffee. The price of the Coffee Traveler depends on factors such as size, geographic location, customization options, and promotional offers.

To purchase a Coffee Traveler, you can either order in-store or online. It is important to consider the flavor preferences of your guests, and the Coffee Traveler can be customized with different types of roasts. Additionally, the Coffee Traveler does not cater to hot chocolate or tea.

Overall, the advantages of the Starbucks Coffee Traveler include convenience, quality, and the ability to serve a large number of people. Keep these tips in mind for cost savings when buying a Coffee Traveler.

The Moscow Metro Museum of Art: 10 Must-See Stations

There are few times one can claim having been on the subway all afternoon and loving it, but the Moscow Metro provides just that opportunity.  While many cities boast famous public transport systems—New York’s subway, London’s underground, San Salvador’s chicken buses—few warrant hours of exploration.  Moscow is different: Take one ride on the Metro, and you’ll find out that this network of railways can be so much more than point A to B drudgery.

The Metro began operating in 1935 with just thirteen stations, covering less than seven miles, but it has since grown into the world’s third busiest transit system ( Tokyo is first ), spanning about 200 miles and offering over 180 stops along the way.  The construction of the Metro began under Joseph Stalin’s command, and being one of the USSR’s most ambitious building projects, the iron-fisted leader instructed designers to create a place full of svet (radiance) and svetloe budushchee (a radiant future), a palace for the people and a tribute to the Mother nation.

Consequently, the Metro is among the most memorable attractions in Moscow.  The stations provide a unique collection of public art, comparable to anything the city’s galleries have to offer and providing a sense of the Soviet era, which is absent from the State National History Museum.  Even better, touring the Metro delivers palpable, experiential moments, which many of us don’t get standing in front of painting or a case of coins.

Though tours are available , discovering the Moscow Metro on your own provides a much more comprehensive, truer experience, something much less sterile than following a guide.  What better place is there to see the “real” Moscow than on mass transit: A few hours will expose you to characters and caricatures you’ll be hard-pressed to find dining near the Bolshoi Theater.  You become part of the attraction, hear it in the screech of the train, feel it as hurried commuters brush by: The Metro sucks you beneath the city and churns you into the mix.

With the recommendations of our born-and-bred Muscovite students, my wife Emma and I have just taken a self-guided tour of what some locals consider the top ten stations of the Moscow Metro. What most satisfied me about our Metro tour was the sense of adventure .  I loved following our route on the maps of the wagon walls as we circled the city, plotting out the course to the subsequent stops; having the weird sensation of being underground for nearly four hours; and discovering the next cavern of treasures, playing Indiana Jones for the afternoon, piecing together fragments of Russia’s mysterious history.  It’s the ultimate interactive museum.

Top Ten Stations (In order of appearance)

Kievskaya station.

starbucks travel box price

Kievskaya Station went public in March of 1937, the rails between it and Park Kultury Station being the first to cross the Moscow River.  Kievskaya is full of mosaics depicting aristocratic scenes of Russian life, with great cameo appearances by Lenin, Trotsky, and Stalin.  Each work has a Cyrillic title/explanation etched in the marble beneath it; however, if your Russian is rusty, you can just appreciate seeing familiar revolutionary dates like 1905 ( the Russian Revolution ) and 1917 ( the October Revolution ).

Mayakovskaya Station

Mayakovskaya Station ranks in my top three most notable Metro stations. Mayakovskaya just feels right, done Art Deco but no sense of gaudiness or pretention.  The arches are adorned with rounded chrome piping and create feeling of being in a jukebox, but the roof’s expansive mosaics of the sky are the real showstopper.  Subjects cleverly range from looking up at a high jumper, workers atop a building, spires of Orthodox cathedrals, to nimble aircraft humming by, a fleet of prop planes spelling out CCCP in the bluest of skies.

Novoslobodskaya Station

starbucks travel box price

Novoslobodskaya is the Metro’s unique stained glass station.  Each column has its own distinctive panels of colorful glass, most of them with a floral theme, some of them capturing the odd sailor, musician, artist, gardener, or stenographer in action.  The glass is framed in Art Deco metalwork, and there is the lovely aspect of discovering panels in the less frequented haunches of the hall (on the trackside, between the incoming staircases).  Novosblod is, I’ve been told, the favorite amongst out-of-town visitors.

Komsomolskaya Station

Komsomolskaya Station is one of palatial grandeur.  It seems both magnificent and obligatory, like the presidential palace of a colonial city.  The yellow ceiling has leafy, white concrete garland and a series of golden military mosaics accenting the tile mosaics of glorified Russian life.  Switching lines here, the hallway has an Alice-in-Wonderland feel, impossibly long with decorative tile walls, culminating in a very old station left in a remarkable state of disrepair, offering a really tangible glimpse behind the palace walls.

Dostoevskaya Station

starbucks travel box price

Dostoevskaya is a tribute to the late, great hero of Russian literature .  The station at first glance seems bare and unimpressive, a stark marble platform without a whiff of reassembled chips of tile.  However, two columns have eerie stone inlay collages of scenes from Dostoevsky’s work, including The Idiot , The Brothers Karamazov , and Crime and Punishment.   Then, standing at the center of the platform, the marble creates a kaleidoscope of reflections.  At the entrance, there is a large, inlay portrait of the author.

Chkalovskaya Station

Chkalovskaya does space Art Deco style (yet again).  Chrome borders all.  Passageways with curvy overhangs create the illusion of walking through the belly of a chic, new-age spacecraft.  There are two (kos)mosaics, one at each end, with planetary subjects.  Transferring here brings you above ground, where some rather elaborate metalwork is on display.  By name similarity only, I’d expected Komsolskaya Station to deliver some kosmonaut décor; instead, it was Chkalovskaya that took us up to the space station.

Elektrozavodskaya Station

starbucks travel box price

Elektrozavodskaya is full of marble reliefs of workers, men and women, laboring through the different stages of industry.  The superhuman figures are round with muscles, Hollywood fit, and seemingly undeterred by each Herculean task they respectively perform.  The station is chocked with brass, from hammer and sickle light fixtures to beautiful, angular framework up the innards of the columns.  The station’s art pieces are less clever or extravagant than others, but identifying the different stages of industry is entertaining.

Baumanskaya Statio

Baumanskaya Station is the only stop that wasn’t suggested by the students.  Pulling in, the network of statues was just too enticing: Out of half-circle depressions in the platform’s columns, the USSR’s proud and powerful labor force again flaunts its success.  Pilots, blacksmiths, politicians, and artists have all congregated, posing amongst more Art Deco framing.  At the far end, a massive Soviet flag dons the face of Lenin and banners for ’05, ’17, and ‘45.  Standing in front of the flag, you can play with the echoing roof.

Ploshchad Revolutsii Station

starbucks travel box price

Novokuznetskaya Station

Novokuznetskaya Station finishes off this tour, more or less, where it started: beautiful mosaics.  This station recalls the skyward-facing pieces from Mayakovskaya (Station #2), only with a little larger pictures in a more cramped, very trafficked area.  Due to a line of street lamps in the center of the platform, it has the atmosphere of a bustling market.  The more inventive sky scenes include a man on a ladder, women picking fruit, and a tank-dozer being craned in.  The station’s also has a handsome black-and-white stone mural.

Here is a map and a brief description of our route:

Start at (1)Kievskaya on the “ring line” (look for the squares at the bottom of the platform signs to help you navigate—the ring line is #5, brown line) and go north to Belorusskaya, make a quick switch to the Dark Green/#2 line, and go south one stop to (2)Mayakovskaya.  Backtrack to the ring line—Brown/#5—and continue north, getting off at (3)Novosblodskaya and (4)Komsolskaya.  At Komsolskaya Station, transfer to the Red/#1 line, go south for two stops to Chistye Prudy, and get on the Light Green/#10 line going north.  Take a look at (5)Dostoevskaya Station on the northern segment of Light Green/#10 line then change directions and head south to (6)Chkalovskaya, which offers a transfer to the Dark Blue/#3 line, going west, away from the city center.  Have a look (7)Elektroskaya Station before backtracking into the center of Moscow, stopping off at (8)Baumskaya, getting off the Dark Blue/#3 line at (9)Ploschad Revolyutsii.  Change to the Dark Green/#2 line and go south one stop to see (10)Novokuznetskaya Station.
