The sheepdogs announce 21-date european tour for october/november 2024.

One of the best live bands out there, hitting the road once again in October and November this year

If you’re looking for the finest of nights out, with one of the best live bands for putting on top shows, you’re most definitely in the right place with The Sheepdogs !

Canada’s rock n’ roll sons and purveyors of good time musical vibes have just announced they are heading across the Atlantic for an exciting run of  21 shows across Europe this October and November.  The tour will include stops in the UK, Spain, Germany, France, Scandinavia, and the Netherlands!

Following their much talked about performances last year alongside American roots rock band  Larkin Poe , The Sheepdogs left a lasting impression on audiences across the UK and Europe. Their high-energy shows, including a memorable performance captured by Rockpalast ,  solidified their reputation as one of the most exciting live bands on the scene. This upcoming tour marks their first headline dates in Europe since 2022, signaling a highly anticipated return for the band for a full headline set.

Bassist Ryan Gullen had this to say:

“We made so many new friends and had such a blast last year traveling around with Larkin Poe , b ut playing for 45 minutes was just not enough. We can’t wait to get back and really jam it out for folks, and bring some new tunes along with us as well.”

Renowned for their electric and dynamic live performances, sing-along choruses, and good-time vibes that put a smile on your face, The Sheepdogs deliver a potent blend of soaring guitars, five-part harmonies, and vintage swagger, unrivaled by many other bands. They have continued to rise and bubble up in both Rock and Americana circles around the world, winning over audiences one album, and one show at at a time. They have shown no signs of slowing down, having played over 200 shows since 2021 – with over 70 performances this year alone across Canada, the US, and now, Europe.

The tour dates will feature new music, set to be released in the coming months as a follow-up to their internationally acclaimed 2022 album, ‘Outta Sight’. Fans can expect a mix of their classic hits and fresh tracks, all delivered with the same enthusiasm and charisma that have become their hallmark.

Hit singles “I Don’t Know” and “Feeling Good” both reached Platinum certification, with “The Way It Is” achieving Gold sales.

Additionally, the albums Learn & Burn and The Sheepdogs both achieved Platinum status, and to date the band has been nominated for 11 JUNO awards, including their most recent release “Outta Sight” and winning four of the coveted trophies.

With a strong commitment to live being a huge part of what they do, they have logged countless hours on stage and many more on the highway as they’ve gone from playing roadhouses and taverns across Canada to performing at major music festivals and venues around the world.

The Sheepdogs - The Garage, London- 19/06/19

I first saw these guys when they supported Rival Sons earlier this year. They were certainly not going to go unnoticed on that occasion as they were all dressed as fairly camp cowboys. I was certainly impressed enough to catch a full set from them upon their return to London.

They all hail from Saskatoon, Canada but you could be forgiven for assuming they were born and bred in the southern states of the USA. Ewan Currie is a formidable front man on vocals and guitar, whilst Ewan is calm and controlled, Jimmy Bowskill counters this and gives the impression he is fighting with his guitar. Ryan Gullen is an extremely animated bass man and is a blur for much of the gig behind his lengthly locks with his partner in crime, Sam Corbett complimenting him well on on Drums. Shamus Currie, Ewan’s brother, completes the line up on Keyboards, trombone and guitar.

The band was welcomed to the stage, no flamboyant costumes this time around, and they settle straight into a Black Crowes style riff for the opener ‘Who?’, and this sets the tone for the next 105 minutes. This is followed by the up tempo sad song ‘I’ve Got A Hole Where My Heart Should Be’. The tempo lowers ever so slightly for ‘Bad Lieutenant’ from the ‘Future Nostalgia’ album before ‘Downtown’ from the same album takes us back to nostalgic Height Asbury in the early 70s. ‘Right On’ has a ‘Mr. Big’ bass line running through it and Ewan Currie’s vocal manages to blend homage to The Doors, Steppenwolf, Lynyrd Skynyrd and even the Beatles. ‘Southern Dreaming’ on the other hand is laid back and could well have been written by the Allman Brothers.

‘Cool Down’ is a great band number with Shamus Currie’s soulful keyboards throughout, his brother Ewan duelling with the impressive Jimmy Bowskill on guitar and the bass and drums of Ryan Gullen and Sam Corbett respectively bouncing off each other. This was one of those numbers you never tire of hearing and would be happy were it to continue ad-infinitum but instead segues into the instrumental ‘Kiss The Brass Ring’. Sounds a bit rude but in the absence of a lyric who knows?

Three songs about their Canadian homeland, ’The Bailieboro Turnaround’, ‘Up In Canada’ and ‘H.M.S. Buffalo’ slowed things down a notch before ramping things up again for ’I’m Gonna Be Myself’. A pedal steel guitar was brought on stage and Jimmy Bowskill sat behind it and the band gave us the very country sound of ‘Let It Roll’. The pedal steel had Jimmy’s moniker etched into it so no mistaking who was going to take his position behind it. Another new instrument was introduced to the proceedings when Ewan and Shamus switched positions with Ewan on keyboard duty whilst Shamus showed he could certainly multi task and picked up the trombone for ‘I Ain’t Cool’ and ’Help Us All’.

This band has obviously had a similar education to many of us old hippies and unashamedly draws on the early seventies southern rock influences for much of its self penned material and no more so than ‘How Late, How Long’ and ‘Feeling Good’. ’I Don’t Know’ brings the main set to a close but there is no way these guys were going to be allowed to leave the building without indulging the very appreciative audience with an encore or two. ‘Nobody’ from their latest 2018 release ‘Changing Colours’, was a popular choice. The official video of this release is well worth checking out on YouTube as it is a take on The Blues Brothers playing the seedy joint behind a wire mesh. No need for protection on this night as the entire audience was in tune with the band and they followed this and brought this excellent gig to a close with what they referred to as a homage song, ‘Ramblin’ Man’, if you closed your eyes you were transported back to the Fillmore East in 1971, it really was that good.

The Sheepdogs only played one cover all night and although they may not yet be on everyone’s radar they are worthy of serious attention as they have the ability to take you back to the 70s with the many references to that golden era throughout their set.

Monday 5th November, the Borderline, London, the Sheepdogs. It’s the second time this year for me seeing these Canadian country rockers. There is little more that I can add to my review of them earlier this year in the Lexington found here rocking-wolves-in-sheeps-clothing. The suits were different but just as shiny, the music was just the same and just as good and the venue was just as packed.

These musical magpies that wear their influences on their sleeves picking the best bits from the great seventies country and rock acts have found the perfect blend and coupled with their superb musicianship, four and sometimes five part harmonies deliver a tour de force of feel good music.

Thanks you Sheepdogs for another great time and until the next time keep on southern fried country rockin y’all

The band’s shows across the US kicked off in July and continued all throughout last month. It continues into September, with the next show being held at The Gorge Amphitheatre in Seattle on September 28. Visit here for remaining US tickets.

In other news about the band, last month longtime drummer Daniel Platzman announced his departure from the band .

Having joined the line-up in 2011, Platzman took to social media to announce that he was leaving. He wrote: “After an incredible journey of over a decade, I will be departing the amazing band that is Imagine Dragons. I wanted to share my deepest gratitude to you, the fans, for your unwavering support and sharing in the joy of music with me.”

In a three-star review of Imagine Dragons’ performance at Reading Festival 2023, NME wrote: “This is by no means a groundbreaking set from Imagine Dragons; for the most part, the performance follows the same structure as all the other shows on their ongoing ‘Mercury’ tour. That being said, that seemed to matter not one jot during a show that was designed solely to serve their fans: mission accomplished.”

The Sheepdogs' Ewan Currie: 10 Records That Changed My Life

As the Sheepdogs gear up for a UK headline tour, frontman Ewan Currie guides us through 10 songs of rare beauty

The Sheepdogs

The Sheepdogs, famously, are the only unsigned band to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone . This happened back in 2011, after the Saskatoon natives triumphed over 15 other competitors to win the magazine's "Do You Wanna Be A Rock & Roll Star?" competition.

The cover was posted on a giant billboard in New York's Times Square, the band appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and signed a deal with Atlantic Records, and CBC News interviewed the drummer's mum.

The Sheepdogs on the cover of Rolling Stone

This overnight success had been a while coming – the band had formed half a decade earlier – but they were a perfect choice. The Sheepdogs harked back to the magazine's glory days, when rock music straddled the globe, unencumbered by other, lesser genres, and success was measured by the strength of a band's music rather than by the size of their social media following.

They're the kind of band you could drop into a remake of Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous without having to bother the wardrobe department. The music fits. The look fits. And the songs fit.

For The Sheepdogs write songs. Proper songs. Songs that linger in the memory long after the last notes have faded. And now they're bringing those songs to Europe. Having entertained Rival Sons' crowd earlier in the year, they're back for their own headline shows, including four UK shows that culminate in a set of three performances at Kent's Black Deer Festival on June 21, 22 and 23. Tickets are on sale now (full dates below).

Those who've seen the band before will know what to expect: harmonies, intricately duelling guitars, instrument swapping, magnificent facial hair, some glorious fashion choices, and a trombone. And those who haven't seen the band before... what are you waiting for?

Below, The Sheepdogs' Ewan Currie picks the 10 Records That Changed His Life. Ewan's solo album Out Of My Mind is out now .

The Allman Brothers - Blue Sky

"Easily my favourite Allmans tune and quite possibly my favourite song all-time. Dickey Betts sings with wonderful countrified restraint as he and Duane spin a spectacular web of shimmering sky blue guitar, evocative of the euphoric heights of idyllic summer love."

Joni Mitchell - Free Man In Paris

"I’m 14 years old, on a road trip with my girlfriend’s family and we’re sitting in the back seat. Joni Mitchell’s Free Man In Paris comes on the radio and I’m suddenly no longer concerned with our clumsy, barely post-pubescent fumblings. There is only that sweet voice on the stereo, gliding effortlessly on wings of smooth 70s studio production. We broke up a week later but I still listen to Joni."

Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower

"As a kid I played piano and clarinet, not exactly the instruments that rock'n'roll dreams were made of in the 1990s. One day I got my hands on Jimi Hendrix ’s Greatest Hits CD and when I heard the guitar solo on All Along The Watchtower , a sonic tower in acid-dipped technicolour, I knew I had to put the liquorice stick down and pick up a guitar."

The Beatles - You Never Give Me Your Money

"I was always a Paul guy. I even had a copy of Venus & Mars before I had any Beatles records. For me there’s nothing better than side two of Abbey Road .

"The mini medley of You Never Give Me Your Money features all the McCartney trademarks of nonsensical rhymes (“ 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 all good children go to heaven ”), different singing voices (the Lady Madonna voice on “ out of college, money spent… ”) and enough hooks and melodies for two or three songs all stuffed into one."

Delaney & Bonnie - Only You Know and I Know

"When we started our band everyone kept telling us we sounded like 'Southern Rock', so I thought I’d better check the genre out. I bought a two CD compilation of Southern Rock Gold , a mostly ham-fisted collection of clunky Southern anthems.

"Fortunately, the first song was Only You Know And I Know , a rollicking good-time number, featuring the dynamite vocal tandem of Delaney & Bonnie. They provided a blueprint for how to play rock'n'roll with soul and country leanings and I learned a lot about singing from Delaney, who apparently taught Eric Clapton how to sing."

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Proud Mary

"My parents weren’t exactly rockers. We didn’t listen to the Stones or Zeppelin in our house, but they would play Creedence . The song that always registered with me was Proud Mary . It sounded like a song that had been around for a hundred years.

"Concise, timeless, evocative, it’s precisely the type of song I strive to write. Deceptively simple, you could program ten thousand supercomputers with songwriting algorithms for a millennia and they would never produce a more perfectly crafted piece of art."

Stevie Wonder - Living for the City

"We always heard a lot of Stevie in my childhood home, especially Innervisions . I can recall being especially struck by the seven minute epic Living for the City, which is nothing short of cinematic.

"For the first time I considered more than just the sound of what I was hearing. My developing 10-year-old brain was engaged equally by the social message as it was by the story-telling possibilities of song."

Led Zeppelin - Over the Hills and Far Away

"I didn’t listen to Led Zeppelin in earnest until I borrowed a box set from the older brother of a friend in high school. Needless to say it clobbered me over the head like Bonham pounding away at his kit.

Over the Hills And Far Away perfectly encapsulates my very favourite Zeppelin thing: the calm before the storm. All nimble acoustic guitar work and gentle Plant vocalisations before the hammer drops and it’s nothing but big time riffs all the way home."

Chicago - Introduction

"When I was a 13 year old clarinet player I wasn’t exactly beating back the female suitors, but I found some refuge in the gloriously horn-filled rock'n'roll of Chicago .

"The first song on their first album (when they were still called Chicago Transit Authority) is a seven minute highlight reel of the band’s strengths. Hard charging grooves, dynamic soloing, a quick detour for some easy going balladeering and then a mad dash for the finish line."

Bonnie Raitt - Thank You

"As I get older the more I appreciate smooth music and it doesn’t get any smoother than the effortlessly divine vocals of Bonnie Raitt . Thank You is from her incredible self-titled debut, an album I bought for $2 on a whim one sunny afternoon roaming around San Francisco.

"Whether I need instant chill on a stressful travel day or laid-back accompaniment for a backyard BBQ, it remains an album for all occasions."

The Sheepdogs released their sixth studio album Changing Colours last year. Check out the charming video below for the single Saturday Night, produced by bassist Ryan Gullen in conjunction with a local legion in the band's home-town of Saskatoon, Canada.

Pregnant woman defended after sister-in-law gets mad at her for selling their Taylor Swift tickets

Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more

A pregnant woman has been defended after she sold her and her sister-in-law’s tickets to a Taylor Swift concert for $4,000.

In a recent post shared to the popular “Am I The A**hole?” Reddit forum , a woman asked if she was in the wrong for selling her tickets to Swift’s Eras Tour, rather than just giving them to her sister-in-law. After noting that she lives in San Diego, she shared that she bought the tickets for the concert – which is in December in Vancouver – last year. She then recalled how she first asked her sister-in-law – who doesn’t necessarily love Swift’s music – to go with her to the concert.

“My sister-in-law has never been a huge Taylor Swift fan (she even was offered a chance to go to the Eras Tour last year but said no because she doesn’t like her music that much) but I asked if she wanted to go with me and she said yes,” she explained.

She acknowledged that when she got pregnant a few months ago, she quickly realized that she wouldn’t be able to go to the concert. However, she still told her sister-in-law that she could go to the show.

“The concert is on December 6 and my due date is December 7. At first, I was adamant I was still going to try and make it to the concert but I soon came to the realization it just wasn’t in the cards for me,” she added. “I offered to let her have the tickets if she wanted to take her daughter who is a big Taylor Swift fan and she said she didn’t want to go if I wasn’t going.”

Since her sister-in-law said she didn’t want to go to the concert, the Reddit user told her a few weeks later that she was thinking of selling the tickets. When the woman’s sister-in-law learned this, she then changed her mind about the show.

“She tells me she’s still going with or without me and that her nail tech wants to go with her, which kind of put me off a little because they’re my tickets and not hers to be deciding who is using them (she never even offered to pay me face value for them),” the pregnant woman added.

The pregnant woman revealed that she ended up selling the tickets for a total of $4,000, which she said would “be a perfect little nest egg for [her]” while she’s on maternity leave. The woman’s sister-in-law was upset by this, as she “stopped communicating” with the Reddit user.

AITA for selling my Eras Tour tickets instead of giving them to my sister in law? by u/ComfortableBlock4275 in AmItheAsshole

“We were pretty much best friends before this. She doesn’t reply to anything I send her about the baby (ultrasound pics etc), stopped sharing her location, and now is looking to go out of town the day of my baby shower which has been planned for months,” the pregnant woman concluded.

In a comment on her post, the Reddit user clarified that her sister-in-law “never once tried getting her own Eras tour tickets.” The family member also didn’t offer to pay for the tickets to the show in December.

“[The Eras tour] was never something she was interested in and the expectation was that she was going to get to go for free and I was just going to give them to her,” she wrote.

The Reddit post has quickly gone viral, with more than 2,700 upvotes. In the comments, many people have defended the pregnant woman for selling the tickets, since her sister-in-law initially said that she didn’t want to go. They also questioned her sister-in-law for not offering to pay for the tickets and for changing her mind about going to the show.

“First she won’t go without you then she invites her nail tech?? That’s massively presumptuous, especially since she didn’t contribute to the cost of the tickets, lol. Wow,” one wrote. “Your SIL got greedy and you have a backbone so...her loss, lol. Your tickets, your rules.”

“It wasn’t a big deal to her until her nail tech got excited about the tickets. She should have offered you a fair price for both tickets when you told her you were thinking about selling them. It’s pretty entitled to think she’d get tickets worth $4,000 (holy hell!) for free,” another wrote.

“She already said she didn’t want them. She can’t just assume you’ll hold onto them indefinitely in case she changes her mind,” a third added.

While $4,000 seems like a hefty price for two concert tickets, it’s not a surprising cost for a Taylor Swift show. Last month, Syracuse News reported that the cheapest Eras Tour tickets in the US sell for around $3,000 each . However, this wasn’t the case for her shows in London in August, as her tickets to her concerts at Wembley Stadium were being sold for as little as $627 for upper-level seating.

Swift is currently on a two-month hiatus from performing, after ending the European leg of her tour in August. Her tour will resume in Miami in October, before it officially comes to a close with her final shows in Vancouver in December.
