Fantastic experience here. My salesman, finance manager, and service people rock. I got a great deal on my camper and good finance terms. Not only that, they put a hitch, wiring, and brake controller on my vehicle free of charge, then topped that with feeding me lunch while I waited. These folks were so friendly and accommodating I can't recommend them enough.

Great service, very friendly staff, made pick up of new motorhome real easy..Salesman Steve very helpful..great experience dealing with Berryland.

Great place to buy a camper. Plenty of options and they help you find what you need. Also nice the time taken to walk you through your camper.

Updated April 5, 2024

When others ask you how to describe Class B plus motorhomes, how do you start? Do you use statements like, “It’s like a Class C, but….” or “It’s like a Class B, but…”. Descriptions like this are somewhat helpful, but also vague. That’s why we created this complete guide to Class B plus motorhomes.

After reading through it, you’ll be able to accurately describe them, and you’ll probably want one too! So we’ve got a few top recommendations for you.

You’ll learn how they’re different from their sister categories, some history of their development, and whether or not Class B plus motorhomes are worth the money. We’ll also show you some great examples currently on the market that are the best of the B plus category. Let’s go!

What Are Class B Plus Motorhomes?

The B+ RV is an evolution of the Class B motorhome (a.k.a. Class B Campervan). It’s a self-contained motorhome built on a full-size van chassis with all of the features seen in drivable motorcoaches.

Class B motorhomes are the smallest class of drivable RVs followed by Class C RVs. Class C RVs are drivable rigs with a cutaway chassis or cab that kind of resemble a moving truck. The front seats are like what you’d find in a Class B van, but the back is much larger and more like a traditional camper.

Class B plus motorhomes fall right in the middle. It’s larger than your traditional camper van but smaller than a Class C. We’re talking more space to stretch out, including larger/more sleeping quarters and usually a full standup wet bath.

It will still be relatively cramped, but it’s a good option for those who want more space but aren’t ready to move out of the comfort of driving a van chassis.

How Does a Class B+ RV Differ From a Class B Campervan?

safari class b motorhomes

Class B plus motorhomes use two different types of chassis. The first type is the European-style vans that Class B RVs use. The three most popular chassis in the U.S. market are:

  • Dodge Ram Pro Master
  • Ford Transit
  • Mercedes Sprinter

RV manufacturers order the chassis and driver’s area without the cargo shell. They build the coach area with wider sidewalls and a higher ceiling for added space. The added square footage allows for more prominent features and a more comfortable living experience inside the coach.

You’ll find Class B+ with dry bath floorplans. Sleeping space is still in convertible configurations, but the beds’ measurements will conform to residential queen or king mattresses. Kitchen features like the sink, stovetop, and countertop will have more overall space to work your “magic” when you’re preparing meals.

5 Best Class B Plus Motorhomes For 2024

If 2024 is your year to purchase a new Class B+ motorhome, but you are not confident about where to start, we offer you five great Class B+ motorhomes. In our list below, we offer a range of Class B+ motorhomes, each offering something that is ideal for every RV owner.

The five Class B+ motorhome models that we love for 2024 have tons of comfort features, space for up to four people, and all of the added extras that you want in a home away from home.

When you are considering a new Class B+ motorhome features that you will want to focus on are the drivability (especially if this is your first RV), storage space, and kitchen features. These are the model features that really define the differences in this class of RVs.

1. Thor Compass AWD

Thor Compass AWD Class B plus motorhomes

  • Length: 23′ 7″ – 25′ 10″

The Thor Compass AWD is the perfect Class B+ motorhome for couples and families that like to have a bit of adventure. There is not a camping spot you will miss, with the standard all-wheel-drive Ford Transit chassis.

Making your adventures even more of a reality is the Compass’ 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine and ten-speed transmission. With this combination of power and functionality, you can easily travel to remote locations or just tuck your RV in that last, tiny campsite.

The Compass is also set for off-grid camping with a standard solar panel and conversion kit, a large awning with LED lights, and a Winegard TV/WiFi antenna.

Inside the Compass AWD, you’ll find three floor plans that meet the needs of a variety of campers. Whether you are a couple that likes to have a little extra space or a family that needs an extra bit of sleeping space. Each floor plan offers you a full bathroom and a spacious galley with all of the necessary amenities.

Each of the three floor plans has a slide-out that gives you more floor space in this compact class B+ motorhome. Features that we love include a roomy shower, large TVs, and three different sleeping arrangements, including two that are private.

2. Airstream Atlas

Airstream Atlas

✅ Heated tanks, multiple touchscreen panels, luxury finishes ❌ Pricey, only comes in silver, only one floor plan

  • Length: 24’ 9”

This 24-foot motorhome has all of the comforts of home, plus upgraded fixtures, beautiful interior finishes, and an automatic slide-out that makes this roomy coach, even more comfortable.

The Atlas has some of the Airstream features that we love the most. The large bathroom has a roomy shower and stainless steel sink with a large vanity. The bathroom also has a large wardrobe and added linen storage.

The galley is a bit small, but the large sink and two-burner stove are great for the couple that likes to cook. The slide-out turns a comfy reclining sofa into a queen size murphy bed, that opens and closes with the touch of a button.

The Atlas is set on the highly reliable Mercedes-Benz chassis. The Mercedes diesel engine is one of the best in class and provides excellent gas mileage even when traveling through mountains or on slower, winding roads.

3. Coachmen Cross Trail

Coachmen Cross Trail Class B plus motorhomes

Sleeps: 2 to 4 Length: 24’ 1” – 29′ 4″ Fresh Water Tank Capacity: 30 gallons Grey Water Tank Capacity: 27 gallons Black Water Tank Capacity: 28 gallons

Coachmen is one of the most popular brands of RV on the market today. They offer such a wide range of products that it is virtually impossible to not find a Coachman RV to fit your needs. The Coachmen Cross Trail is a great example of the versatility of the Coachman line.

These Class B+ motorhomes offer a wide variety of floor plans, features, and sleeping arrangements for couples, small families, and even friends who just like to travel for adventures. The Cross Trail comes standard with all-wheel drive, so this is the perfect Class B+ coach for those who want to experience locations off the beaten path.

The Cross Trail comes in 8 floor plans, one of which offers slide-outs for more space. The available floor plans have features like private master suites with large beds and spacious bathrooms. The variety of sleeping arrangements that include bunks, Murphy beds, overhead bunks, and spacious queen beds are great for hosting up to four adults.

Even the smallest of the Cross Trail models has a functional galley with a large refrigerator, convection microwave, and plenty of counter space. Like other Coachmen products, the Cross Trail has tons of storage, though some of the smaller floor plans offer better external storage than internal storage space.

4. Thor Delano

Thor Delano

✅ Extra sleeping room, 2 TVs, slide-outs ❌ Small dinette, tight kitchen

  • Sleeps: 3-4
  • Length: 25′ 8″
  • Fresh Water Tank Capacity: 30 gallons
  • Grey Water Tank Capacity: 38 gallons
  • Black Water Tank Capacity: 38 gallons

The Delano from Thor is the ideal sprinter-based motorhome for small families. With four unique floor plans, each able to sleep 3 or more people, the Delano is versatile, while also offering tons of comfort in a compact footprint.

What makes the Delano stand out from other Class B+ options is that each of the models comes with a slide-out option. This simple feature increases your floor space, which can be a necessity for traveling families.

Each floor plan has an over-cab bunk that kids love! From there, you get a range of sleeping options including twin to king convertible beds or sofas that convert to queen beds.

Each Delano floor plan gives you a spacious bath with plenty of vanity space and a roomy shower. Two of the models have showers that are separate from the sink and toilet, which is great for some travelers but is not our favorite feature. Galleys feature larger refrigerators, two-burner stoves, and ample counter space.

All of these features are set on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis, with a powerful 2.0L I-4 gas engine. This gives you both power and reliability for any adventure you can imagine.

5. Gulf Stream BT Cruiser

Gulf Stream BT Cruiser Class B plus motorhomes

  • Length: 22′ 6” to 28’ 9”
  • Fresh Water Tank Capacity: 41 gallons
  • Grey Water Tank Capacity: 26 gallons
  • Black Water Tank Capacity: 26 gallons

Gulf Stream offers 7 BT cruiser floor plans, set on either a Ford E350 chassis with a V-8 engine or a Chevy 3500 chassis with a V-8 engine. For many people, this ability to select a model with a Ford or Chevy base is a real selling point.

Inside the Gulf Stream BT Cruiser, you’ll find all of the amenities of home in a compact space. One of the best features of this line of Class B+ coaches is that they all have private bathrooms with spacious showers and plenty of storage. The 5240 model has a large wardrobe that is great for clothes, linens, and other necessities.

Galleys feature larger refrigerators, three burner stoves, and plenty of storage space. If you are looking for a Class B+ with more floor space, Gulf Stream offers 6 floor plans with slide-outs. This not only gives you more floor space, but these floor plans have versatility in their features including theater seating, Murphy beds, and dinettes.

How Much Do Class B+ RVs Cost?

Class B and Class B plus motorhomes can be deceiving when it comes to cost. People will walk into an RV show or dealership thinking that smaller means less expensive. But you’re looking at between $70,000- $200,000 for a brand-new B+ model.

You’re paying for the engineering and quality of the craftsmanship. The B+ motorhome is a fuel-efficient luxury-liner motorhome. RV manufacturers install almost all the features you’ll see in a Class A motorhome into them.

You’ll find that the materials used are of the best quality. Builders use the best technologies and greatest innovations to give you the ultimate camping experience a mini-mansion can offer.

Pros and Cons of Class B Plus RVs

You may be wondering if a Class B Plus RV is worth it. Every RV category has its pros and cons. We’ll show you what the experts and our RVBlogger friends have said about this category.

If you want more information, go ahead and check out our RV Camping For Newbies Facebook page to continue the category discussion with our followers.

Advantages of Class B+ Motorhomes

Until the Great American Outdoors Act renovations are complete, the average length limit for national parks is 30 feet for campsites. Some national parks have campsites that are 40 feet in length, while others have only 20-foot spaces. Most have spaces 30 feet in length that haven’t been modernized since the last Mission Act of 1966.

Class B Plus RVs balance features with fuel efficiency very well. The models built on the E-series have permanent beds and other furniture, so you don’t have to adjust things continually. If you’re ready to call it a day, you can walk to the bed and crawl in without having to change it from its daytime sofa or dinette position.

If you want a driving experience similar to your SUV or minivan but with the best features possible, this category is the right choice. We recommend taking an online RV driving course , but the driving experience won’t feel much different.

Disadvantages of Class B+ Motorhomes

Not everyone will enjoy the Class B+ camping experience. Smaller holding tanks and storage will give you enough dry camping time for a long weekend. If you’re a frugal camper, you may get a week out of your tanks before you need to cycle them.

Spending a lot of time inside the coach, you may find cabin fever slowly creeping in. If you want to enjoy the outdoor space with built-in entertainment, kitchens, and other features, Class A or C will better fit your camping lifestyle. The B and B+ categories give you a comfortable living space but are generally ideal for active people beyond the campsite.

The best fuel efficiency will come from a Class B campervan. B plus versions will be a close second, but the added weight will knock off a mile or two from the miles-per-gallon. The smaller Euro-styled vans with the V6 gas engines will have the best MPG over the 7.3L V8 E-Series chassis.

Should I Buy an Extended Warranty for My Class B+ RV?

Yes, but not from a dealership! Unfortunately, your odds of suffering a major mechanical breakdown go up with every passing year. Based on RV Warranty claims records, more than 3 out of every 10 RVs will need major repairs in only their second year on the road. This skyrockets to 8 out of 10 in their fifth year, and virtually ALL of them in their eighth year!

Today’s RVs are increasingly more complex, and with more things that can go wrong, the need to protect your investment is greater than ever.

Our RV Warranty plans also allow you to change your mind. If you want to sell your RV to a private party, you can absolutely transfer the policy to the new owner. Additionally, if you’re trading in your RV or getting out of RVing altogether, you can cancel your policy for a pro-rated refund.

We bought a warranty through Wholesale Warranties for several reasons:

  • We can cancel the warranty at any time and get a pro-rated refund
  • We can transfer the warranty to the new owner if we decide to sell our RV
  • There are no mileage caps on our policy
  • We can use repair shops all across the country
  • We can use a mobile repair company right at our campsite
  • The price is way better than most dealerships
  • We could finance the cost of the warranty
  • With parts and labor prices increasing all the time, we have peace of mind

You owe it to yourself to at least check out a warranty and get a free quote to see if it’s right for you. It just takes a few minutes, and you’ll learn a ton about protecting your investment. We only recommend products we use ourselves, and we highly recommend you get a free quote from Wholesale Warranties .

What Is a Class B+ Motorhome?

safari class b motorhomes

Since the Class B camper is the closest comparison to Class B plus RVs, let’s examine their differences based on five important factors: size, storage, living space, and maneuverability.

RV Size: Which Is More Compact?

Class B plus RVs fall between the traditional Class B vs Class C RV types in terms of size. Traditional Class B campers often land in the 16 to 21-foot range. Class B plus motorhomes are typically 23 to 26 feet long. This type of hybrid camper is built on an extended van chassis like the RAM® ProMaster 3500 or the Mercedes-Benz® Sprinter 4500, which have a longer base

In general, Class B RVs are more compact than Class B plus motorhomes. A B+ RV will have more living space for a full bathroom and other interior upgrades. This makes a B plus camper a more attractive option for families or couples seeking more interior comfort, especially those seeking a durable, comfortable camper for full-time RV living.

Winner: Depends on Preference

Storage: How Much Can You Pack?

In general, a larger RV will offer more storage capacity. The same is true for Class Bs and Class B+ RVs: the larger the camper, the more room for your belongings in interior cabinets and exterior compartments.

Actually, there’s one feature that’s rare to find on traditional camper vans that’s more common in Class B plus motorhomes: exterior storage compartments. The extended van chassis helps to make this possible, as there’s more room on top of the frame that isn’t taken by holding tanks, plumbing lines, and other construction components.

However, many traditional Class B camper vans offer creative exterior storage solutions you won’t find on Class B+ RVs. This included roof-mounted rack systems, rear-mounted bike racks, and more. Still, you won’t find nearly as much exterior storage in either of these motorhome types when compared to Class A vs Class C RVs .

Winner: Class B+

Living Space: Which Has More Room for Dining, Sleeping, Bathing, and Lounging?

The extended length of Class B+ campers allows manufacturers to include a slide-out in some of their floor plans. Whether it’s built on the campside, driver’s side, or the back wall of the camper, a Class B plus with a slide will offer dramatically more living space than a traditional camper van.

Additionally, some Class B+ motorhomes feature a compact cabover bunk area, expanding their sleeping capacities. While it’s rare to find a standard camper van that can sleep more than two people without a pop up roof, Class B+ RVs can often sleep four or more, thanks to a larger living area with a convertible dinette, sofa, or cabover bunk area.

Another noteworthy difference is the bathroom. While the compact nature of Class B RVs means that manufacturers can typically only fit a wet bath in these floorplans, you’ll find Class B plus motorhome floor plans with dry baths, and most don’t require that space to double as closet storage when you aren’t showering or using the restroom.

Maneuverability: Which is Easier to Drive?

While there are compact Class C campers that are quite maneuverable, Class B and Class B+ motorhomes are the easiest RV to drive. However, Class B plus RVs won’t fit in as many tight parking spots or small campsites as standard Class B van campers.

The added length of Class B Plus RVs makes them more difficult to maneuver. Both of these motorhomes have similar widths, but the added length means you’ll need to make wider turns and use tools like side view and backup cameras to increase your visibility.

Winner: Class B (but only due to a few extra feet of length in Class B+ RVs)

What Features Do Class B Plus RVs Have?

features-class-b-plus-rv-09-2024

While features will vary by RV manufacturer, here are a few common amenities you can expect from these motorhomes:

  • Solar Charging Systems. Some may offer solar prep and others may include off-grid-ready packages with roof-mounted solar panels, a solar charge controller, an inverter, and inverted power outlets.
  • Wireless Connectivity. Many Class B+ RVs include prep for a Wi-Fi router or a Wi-Fi-capable system as a standard feature.
  • Digital Control Panels. Luxury Class B plus motorhomes allow you to control lights, awnings, air conditioners, and other appliances from a single digital display. Some even offer Bluetooth® connectivity to control your RV’s systems remotely.
  • Versatile Furniture. Murphy beds, twin bed conversions, and convertible dinettes are common in Class B plus RVs to maximize day-to-night functionality.
  • Driving Safety Features. Because they’re built on some of the industry’s best extended van chassis, drivers will enjoy safety features like hill start assist, lane departure warnings, blind spot monitoring, and more.
Consult the specific manufacturer for a complete list of features offered by a specific Class B plus motorhome.

Is It a Class B Plus RV or a Super B RV?

Depending on the RV manufacturer, you may also find a Class B+ RV labeled as a “Super B RV”. Although manufacturers may choose to label them differently, they’re essentially referring to the same RV type. This is similar to the term camper van being used as a synonym for Class B RV.

Popular Class B Plus RV Brands

If you want a compact motorhome with more living space and luxury amenities, check out these RV brands from some well-known Class B plus motorhome manufacturers.

Thor Gemini and Compass

Thor Gemini Class B Plus RV

These technology-forward Thor campers include wireless connectivity via Winegard’s Connect 2.0® system, off-grid capability with a 100-watt solar panel and 30-amp charge controller, and easy system monitoring with the Rapid Camp+® digital lighting and systems control display.

Winnebago Navion and View

Winnebago View Class B+ Motorhome

The Winnebago Navion and View are also sister brands. Although they are technically categorized as Class C campers on the manufacturer’s website, their compact size and luxurious amenities make them worthy of comparison to other manufacturers’ Class B Plus motorhome floor plans.

Their three interior layouts offer something for everyone, ranging from an open concept with a Murphy bed to a spacious rear bedroom with twin beds that can convert to a single sleeping area. Built on a rear-wheel-drive Sprinter chassis, these Winnebago campers boast a 3.6Kw generator, two 100-watt solar panels, a 10 cubic-foot 12V refrigerator, and more.

Jayco Granite Ridge

Jayco Granite Ridge Class B+ RV

For those looking for a rugged hybrid motorhome with loads of off-grid capability, Jayco’s Granite Ridge lineup is worth a second look. Built on a Ford Transit 350HD chassis, this durable Class B plus motorhome boasts helper springs and a rear stabilizer for added comfort when navigating highways or unpaved roads.

Both Granite Ridge floor plans boast a twin bed conversion in the rear bedroom, which is ideal for friends or couples who want to convert it to a large king-sized bed. With an all-wheel-drive chassis and a lift kit, this durable motorhome can handle more difficult terrain than many others, but you still get luxury features when you get to camp, such as a 2.8kW generator, a Winegard Connect 2.0® antenna, and 360 watts of roof-mounted solar panels.

Airstream Atlas

Airstream Atlas Class B Plus Camper

Airstream brings the same level of detail and construction quality you’ll find in their travel trailers to their Class B plus motorhomes. With a single floorplan built on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis, the Atlas Touring Coach is one of Airstream’s most luxurious motorhomes.

The Atlas boasts a Murphy bed in the center of the floor plan. Nestled into a campside slide-out, the bed converts to a comfortable sofa during the day. While the bathroom is nearly an afterthought with many other manufacturers, Airstream gives you a truly residential rear bathroom with a neo-angle shower, a mirrored vanity, and hanging closet storage.

History of Novosibirsk Oblast

Over thousands of years, the territory of the Novosibirsk region, due to its location on the border of natural zones and cultural regions (the Siberian taiga and the Eurasian steppe), played the role of a buffer zone or border zone of different peoples.

In the 13th-15th centuries, this land was the eastern outskirts of the Golden Horde. Later, until the end of the 16th century, it was part of the Siberian Khanate. In the 18th century, the territory of the present Novosibirsk region became part of the Russian Empire.

Despite the relatively favorable climate, the Russians began to settle here relatively late. The Barabin Tatars were the indigenous people. Today, their total population is about 10,000 people living mainly in the western parts of the region.

The Barabin Tatars were subjected to constant attacks of the Kalmyks (the Oyrates and Teleuts). Russian villages were also under the threat. That’s why people preferred to settle in the north, near Tomsk. Only at the end of the 17th century, Novosibirsk province became attractive to settlers.

More Historical Facts…

The first settlement was founded by the boyar son Alexey Kruglik in 1695. Later, this settlement became the village of Kruglikovo. Today, it is located in Bolotninsky district. In the early 18th century, Berdsky stockaded town was built. Over time, the threat from the nomads decreased and the number of settlers increased.

In 1722, the Siberian line of fortresses along the Irtysh River was constructed. The locals were mainly engaged in soil tilling, fishing and hunting. In the early 19th century, the famous Ural manufacturer Akinfiy Demidov constructed two copper melting plants here - Kolyvansky and Barnaulsky.

In 1893, due to the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway and the railway bridge across the Ob River, Alexandrovsky settlement was built (from 1895 - Novonikolayevsky). Thanks to its convenient geographical location (the Trans-Siberian Railway crossing the Ob River, transportation ways connecting Siberia with the European part of the Russian Empire), its trade importance grew rapidly. In 1909, Novonikolayevsk became a town. In 1925, it was renamed in Novosibirsk.

Before 1921, the territory of Novosibirsk oblast was part of Tomsk gubernia, from 1921 to 1925 - of Novonikolayevsk gubernia, from 1925 to 1930 - of Siberian krai, from 1930 to 1937 - of West Siberian krai. September 28, 1937, West Siberian krai was divided into Novosibirsk oblast and Altay krai. This date is considered the official date of the region formation.

Novosibirsk Oblast - Features

Novosibirsk Oblast is located in the south east of the East-Siberian Plain, in the steppe, forest-steppe and taiga zones, between the Ob and the Irtysh rivers. The length of the region from west to east - 642 km, from north to south - 444 km.

The southern part of Vasyugan swamp, the largest swamp in the world, occupies the territory in the north and north-west of the province. In the southwest, it borders with Pavlodar oblast of Kazakhstan.

There are about 3,000 lakes on the territory of the Novosibirsk region. The largest lakes are Chany, Ubinskoye, Sartlan. Novosibirsk Reservoir also known as “the Ob Sea” (1,082 sq. km.) was created for Novosibirsk Hydroelectric Power Plant.

The climate is continental. The average temperature in January ranges from minus 16 degrees Celsius in the south and minus 20 degrees Celsius in the north. The average temperature in July - plus 18-20 degrees Celsius.

The largest cities and towns are Novosibirsk (1,621,000), Berdsk (103,500), Iskitim (54,700), Kuybishev (43,000). Novosibirsk is one the largest industrial, transport, scientific, and cultural center of Russia, the third most populous city in the country after Moscow and St. Petersburg. It is also the capital of the Siberian Federal District.

In the historical part of Novosibirsk you can find a lot of preserved monuments of the Russian Empire times. The Soviet era is presented by numerous scientific and cultural attractions, as well as beautiful parks.

There are more than 500 deposits of various mineral resources in Novosibirsk Oblast (coal, refractory clay, peat, anthracite). Natural gas and oil fields are located in the north-western part of the region. There are significant reserves of underground thermal and mineral waters. Forests cover about 4 million hectares, more than 20% of the territory.

Novosibirsk Oblast is one of the most industrially developed regions in Siberia (metal processing and machine building, food, power engineering, non-ferrous metallurgy industries). Heavy industries are concentrated in Novosibirsk, Iskitim and Berdsk.

The regional agriculture specializes in the cultivation of grain, potatoes and vegetables. Dairy cattle breeding, poultry farming and beekeeping are developed. The production of flax plays an important role too. Agricultural development of the territory is not high (about 48%). In general, it has about 25% of all agricultural land in Western Siberia.
