Find the best cruise for you

Featured cruise deals, cruising guide, why take a cruise vacation.

If you have a place on your bucket list, chances are, a cruise will get you there – provided the destination is along a coastline or inland waterway. Cruises cover the world, taking millions of passengers each year to regions such as the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Alaska, Europe, the Mediterranean and even Antarctica. Cruising offers a tremendous value, with trips that include your lodging, meals and entertainment – all rolled into one. Some luxury cruise lines even offer fully inclusive vacations, which cover drinks and tours ashore. And best of all, cruising means seeing the world conveniently after unpacking only once.

Cruises also provide a wonderful option for families, with many ships offering things like waterslides, mini-golf courses and fun clubs for kids, tweens and teens. While most are free, nursery programs can cost extra. Planning is easy: Pick your destination and the right ship (and line) for your travel style. The cruise line makes it simple, offering packages to help you save on extras like alcohol, shore tours or even airfare.

Travelers say they choose to cruise because cruising often costs less per night when compared with land vacations at a hotel, where they'll have to book -- and pay for -- every extra.

What are Tips for Finding Cheap Cruises?

If you're a flexible traveler, you'll have a better chance of finding cheap cruises. Take a cruise that doesn't sail over the summer or holidays, when prices are highest. Book an inside cabin, or take your chances with a "guarantee cabin," ideal for passengers who aren't picky about their stateroom location but really want the lowest price available. Book cabins on lower decks, which often come with lower prices than those rooms on higher floors – that is staterooms over suites.

Cruise brands such as Carnival Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean International offer rates that might drop as low as $75 per person per night -- and sometimes even lower.

If you want a real bargain, consider a transatlantic or repositioning cruise. These cruises are one-way or open-jaw trips, that start in one port and finish at another. You can score a deal sailing from Florida to Europe, for example, or even from New York to Florida. Just be aware, you'll probably have to pay a bit more for airfare to return.

What are Tips to Finding Last-Minute Cruise Deals?

While being flexible date wise will always get you the best last-minute cruise deals, it's particularly helpful if you live near a cruise port and can quickly drive there. That way you'll probably be able to jump on those deals that might pop up just a week or two before the ship is scheduled to sail.

Or if you don't have flexibility with either departure dates or embarkation locations, be willing to compromise on exact destinations. This will allow you to find a wider range of last-minute deals traveling to locations in their off-season or so-called shoulder season.

Do plenty of research and know what your ideal cruise is and costs on average, so both are already on your radar. When you see it drop, pounce! (Many cruise lines update pricing several times per day, so preparation is crucial.)

Best cruises in 2024

There's truly a cruise style and ship for everyone, and that has never been more the case than in 2024, as vessels continue to come in an array of sizes – from riverboats and expedition vessels to the largest-ever mega ships. And it's not an exaggeration to say some are loaded with so many activities that you couldn't possibly enjoy them all in a single sailing.

Families will find plenty of options and activities onboard big ships, which have transformed cruising, making the vessels as exciting as the destinations themselves. The Caribbean is always a great option for families, offering lots of sunshine, great beaches and culture. Alaska, famous for its incredible vistas and abundant wildlife, is also a solid family cruise option. Consider cruise brands such as Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, Norwegian Cruise Line, Disney Cruise Line, MSC Cruises and even Celebrity Cruises and Holland America Line for a great multi-generational voyage.

Or on the smaller side, by comparison, river cruising remains a hot ticket item this year, with exciting routes that send eager guests down the Danube or Rhine rivers in Europe or to lesser-frequented locations, like the Mekong River in Cambodia or Vietnam, or soon the Magdalena River in Colombia. Popular river cruises embark in timeless cities like Amsterdam, Budapest and Lisbon. River cruise lines to consider encompass Viking, AmaWaterways, Avalon Waterways, Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, Emerald Cruises, Tauck, Uniworld Boutique River Cruises and Riverside Luxury Cruises, as well as American Cruise Lines for a domestic alternative.

If you're an adventurer at heart, an expedition cruise might be best for you. These voyages, often onboard small ships (only a few hundred passengers tops), offer an intimate experience that brings passengers right up next to glaciers, whales, penguins and iguanas. Ships visit tiny spots all over the world – from pole to pole – including the Arctic, Alaska, Australia, Greenland, the Galapagos and, of course, Antarctica. Passengers will spend their time zodiacing, kayaking, hiking, biking and exploring with expert guides and knowledgeable naturalists. Expedition travelers love cruise lines such as Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic, UnCruise Adventures, Silversea, HX (formerly Hurtigruten Expeditions), Ponant and Quark Expeditions, as well as an ever-expanding list that now even extends to Seabourn and Viking.

But for the most decadent form of travel, luxury cruises offer all-inclusive experiences onboard small to median-sized ships (usually under a thousand passengers) with perks like butlers, high-end amenities and personalized, intuitive service, not to mention the finest dining at sea. Ships often feature luxury touches like marble and crystal decor, intimate spaces and beautiful spas. Because luxury ships tend to be on the smaller size, they can often reach off-the-beaten-path destinations bigger ships simply cannot access -- ports like St. Tropez or Guadeloupe. If you're looking for a luxury cruise, consider Crystal, Seabourn, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Silversea, Explora Journeys, Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection and upcoming Four Seasons Yachts.

10 Creative Tour Name Ideas to Attract More Visitors

Angela Bolchinova

Table of Content

Destination vacation, hop-on, hop-off, mind the gap, green escapes, city sightseeing,  the landmark tour, the royal route, keep calm and travel on, wander rush, rhapsody travel or my big fat city tour, wrapping up on tour company names.

Choosing a unique tour company name is critical for every travel business. Whether it describes the route, service or experience you deliver, a good name is very likely to increase customer engagement and interest. You will need to find words that truly reflect your values in a memorable way.

In this article, we share some great tour name ideas to give you a framework for naming your own business. You will also find some useful tips to follow when making the final decision. ‘Steal like an artist’ and craft a tour name that will make your visitors go through the roof!

Deliberately misspelling is a great idea when it comes to tour names. You can build up a word that hints the nature of the experience. Adventour is a great example of a catchy name that is at the same time memorable and easy to reference. Whether you are offering breathtaking wildlife safaris or day escapes to the world’s most exotic places, it will suit ideally for your exciting tour.

Get-a-way is a similar made-up name. Short and simple, but still nicely delivering a clear message which is setting up certain expectations.

Another type of name that would ideally suit day trips and expeditions to relaxing beautiful places. Destination Vacation is a meaningful name that delivers a clear message describing the purpose of the tour. It is also an instance of SEO friendly travel name. Tip: Using rhymes is a good approach when you are a bit stuck with choosing a tour name. Rhymes make even usual words sound more appealing and unique, so why not using them to create a cool tour name? Like Sky high or Ray day. Think about the best feature of your tour and rhyme it to craft something different.

Use tour names that have already gained popularity. Hop-on, Hop-off   is a good example of a common travel experience most people know about. It describes a bus tour that follows a circular route with fixed stops, allowing passengers to disembark and reboard at any stop. Fantastic choice of name for those of you who offer flexible bus tours for adventurous travelers!

Use local common phrases when organizing various city tours . They make reference to some unique cultural values reflecting the spirit and character of the city. Mind the gap is an expression every Londoner hears at least once a day. Find the distinctive notions in the area you operate and use them to describe your tour. Mind the gap is the perfect name for all types of day trips in London, especially if they include using the famous London underground.

Choose a relaxing tour company name that relates to the advantages of your tour. Green Escapes  is one of our favorites. It infers the nature of the journey while at the same time sets clear customer expectations. It highlights the best features of the trip and inspires people to imagine the relaxing expedition that the tour offers.

Comfort travel could be used in a similar context. If you can offer an exceptional travel experience, this tour name would definitely promote it nicely.

CALL TO ACTION

Choose a location-based  tour company name that is short and simple. City Sightseeing says it all. You can easily attract people specifically searching for this kind of experience. City Sightseeing Amsterdam  is one of the many examples. Whether you are going to offer convenient transport when exploring the city, or selection of places that will be visited, it will do the job. This name is quite broad and would allow adding or changing some of the relevant activities in the future.

The Landmark Tour delivers a very straightforward message. A tour named like that could take you to an enchanting garden, popular monument, or even fortress in the suburbs. Just like our previous suggestion, it targets a specific audience with clear expectations and travel goals. This tour combines all the special places that one would love to visit when traveling abroad or exploring the local.

A classy name that will be associated with a set of activities. This tour name hints exploring the cultural heritage of the specific region, in one way or another. It will attract people keen to visit everything from ancient castles and historic places to famous museums and houses. Ideal to engage all tourists interested in the fascinating stories from the past. Still engaging for the younger people who want to know more about the history and best-loved ancient monuments.

Are you trying to attract a younger audience or just want to be noticed by people spending most of their time online? Popular social terms are what you need for this purpose. Most of your customers are choosing their next travel destination or experience online. Social networks are where the actual research and planning happens.

If you want to capture this audience, create a name that contains a popular social media expression. Foodie map is a similar example that could refer to an exciting food and drinks tour.

Our final suggestion offers three different tour company names. We think one of the best approaches when choosing a tour name is creating something memorable and unique. A selection of words that sound exciting and challenging would definitely intrigue people. These names are unusual and have great potential to grow as an independent brand in the future. Give freedom to your imagination and it will pay off with an inspiring idea.

Extra Tip:  Make sure the name you choose is available as a domain name. You don’t want to end up with a great idea that cannot become something ‘bigger’.

Choosing what to call your tour or travel experience is one of the most important decisions you make for your business. To a certain extent, the name would determine further performance and success. Don’t underestimate the significance of words and the extent to which they affect customer interest. Take your time to craft an influential message locked in a few words. You will be surprised to find out how much your effort will do for the business!

Naming your travel biz is about more than just a clever name. Your name sets the tone for your whole brand and shows how you help clients fulfill their travel dreams. As you brainstorm names, keep these tips in mind:

Show off what you do

What is rule #1 when naming a travel agency? Make sure your specialty is clear. Tour companies, cruise sellers, niche travel agents — your name should instantly tell people what you do. This helps attract great customers by setting expectations around your services.

When potential clients get what you offer, they can tell if you're a fit for their needs.

Share your personality

Your company name also captures the heart of your business. It hints at what makes you tick - your passions, perspectives, and what makes your approach unique.

Ask yourself: What values do I operate under? What travel principles guide me? You don't need to lay out detailed philosophies. But well-chosen words give a taste of your travel style to hook the right folks.

Be memorable

Being descriptive ties into showcasing your specialty. A name that tells people what you do sticks in their minds and spreads brand awareness by word-of-mouth.

But you also want something unique and fresh. Short, snappy names using rhymes, wordplay, or travel symbols make you pop.

Allow room to grow

While you probably start by specializing, ensure your name leaves room to expand someday. Many travel agents start a niche and then add more trips once they build a client base. Leave space to add cruise or family vacation planning down the road. See if your dream name limits you or offers flexibility.

Check availability & trademarks

This one's obvious but critical: search online to see if your desired name exists. Look nationwide for same-name travel businesses to avoid confusion between brands. Ideally, grab matching URLs, social handles, and trademarks to own your name fully. You can use a website like Namechk to quickly search if your name is available across various social media platforms.

Also, be mindful of any trademarks for existing names. If you plan on starting a travel agency in the US, be sure to browse through the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) search database . If you’re outside of the US, be sure to check with your local laws and regulations.

With so many kinds of travel companies, it's smart to pick a name tailored to your specialty. Every sector takes its own approach to descriptive, memorable titles.

As we break down popular niches, decide how to highlight your ideal travel specialty through naming. Here are the niches we will go through:

Tour operators

Travel advisors, specialty travel, luxury travel agencies, group tour agencies, online travel agencies, travel services firms, transportation logistics agencies, niche travel agencies.

Experts at leading guided adventures and tour operators handle all trip logistics — from 10 to 10,000 guests. Their names often emphasize exciting global places that highlight their destinations and options.

Tips to Choose the Perfect Cruise Group Name

Cruising is a popular vacation choice for many people. It offers a unique and exciting way to explore different destinations while also enjoying all the amenities and activities on board the cruise ship. One of the best parts of cruising is being able to share this experience with friends and family. If you are planning a group cruise with your loved ones, one fun, and important task is choosing a group name.

A cruise group name can add a sense of camaraderie and unity among your travel companions. It can also serve as a fun inside joke or conversation starter among fellow passengers on the ship. However, coming up with the perfect cruise group name can be tricky. To help you out, here are some tips to consider when choosing a cruise group name:

  • Consider the Destination : One way to come up with a cruise group name is to incorporate the destination into your name.
  • Use Playful Puns : Another fun way to come up with a cruise group name is to use puns related to cruising or the destination.
  • Reflect Your Group’s Personality : Is your group adventurous, laid-back, or a mix of both? Think about your group’s personality and try to reflect it in your name choice.
  • Keep it Short and Memorable : A catchy and easy-to-remember name is key for a successful cruise group name. Avoid long and complicated names that may be difficult to remember or pronounce.
  • Consult with Your Group : It’s important to involve everyone in the decision-making process when choosing a cruise group name. Take suggestions from all members of your group and make a final decision together.
  • Have Fun with It : The most important thing is to have fun with the process and not take it too seriously. Get creative and let your group’s personality shine through your chosen name.

Cruising is a unique and exciting way to travel with friends and family. Choosing the perfect cruise group name can add an extra layer of fun and camaraderie to your adventure. Consider incorporating the destination, using playful puns, reflecting your group’s personality, keeping it short and memorable, consulting with your group, and most importantly, having fun when choosing a cruise group name. Keep it simple.

When selecting a name for your business, keep it short and sweet. Opt for something that is accessible to all audiences, so you don’t needlessly lose potential customers due to difficulty in pronouncing or spelling the name!

That said, don’t forget to be creative! Having an unforgettable name allows you to make a lasting impression on potential customers, giving you an edge in a competitive industry.

Consider your target audience.

Your chosen name should accurately reflect your target audience, whether that is luxury travelers or budget-conscious backpackers. This will help potential customers identify your company as the perfect fit for their needs.

Make Sure the Domain is Available

Before you settle on a name, make sure the domain is available. This will save time and energy when it comes to setting up your website and other online presences. In addition, you can also secure social media handles with your chosen name before someone else does!

Choose Your Domain!

Once you’ve settled on a name for your travel business, it’s time to choose the perfect domain. This is the web address that customers and potential clients will use to find your website, so an exact match of your selected business name is ideal.

Name on Passport vs Name on Booking

Cool Cruiser

Hi all! I booked a cruise for one of my best friends and I, and had a quick question regarding names on our travel documents. I just hung up with a rep at Carnival, but unfortunately, didn't gain much clarity.

When my friend got married 5 years ago, she added her maiden name to her middle name, so she has two middle names now. She updated her legal names and also updated her drivers license and her passport, so no issues there.

When I booked the cruise I used her LEGAL first name and her LEGAL last name. That's it. However, I just looked at a copy of her passport and under "Given Names", it shows her legal first name as well as two middle names. Of course, on the passport, the final two names aren't categorized as middle names. All three names simply show up under "Given Name".

So I called Carnival to add the names so our booking would match her passport, and was told not to do that if the FIRST of those "Given Names" is the ONLY LEGAL FIRST NAME.  Because Carnival doesn't use middle names on booking.

Yes, only the FIRST of her given names is her legal first name , but how would anyone at the pier or elsewhere know that? Again, three names appear as her GIVEN NAME on her passport.

I've been on 24 cruises and on two of those, I've seen people denied boarding (for different reasons), and I'm terrified of that happening to us!  😩 I'd feel comfortable if her booking reflected all of her names.

What do you think?

First and last name will be fine on booking and on any airline tix.

Don't worry about it.

People at the port will know to look at first and last since cruise lines don't add in all the middle stuff.

And if she is anxious, just bring birth certificates and marriage license but as Riff noted, first and last name need to match.

By not disclosing your middle name(s) on your booking can cause denied boarding. It happens every day. Your airline ticket should show your given names run together without spaces, and your last name. These must exactly match your travel documents. Airlines don't always prompt you for your full name, but then if you are denied boarding, they keep your money in most cases, and sell your seat to a standby passenger. Information from the TSA:

Secure Flight is a risk-based passenger prescreening program that enhances security by identifying low and high-risk passengers before they arrive at the airport by matching their names against trusted traveler lists and watchlists.

To protect privacy, the Secure Flight program collects the minimum amount of personal information, such as full name, date of birth, and gender, necessary to conduct effective matching. Read the   Privacy Impact Assessment   and the   System of Records Notice   for information about the program's rigorous privacy protections. Personal data is collected, used, distributed, stored and disposed of according to stringent guidelines.

Secure Flight transmits the screening instructions back to the airlines to identify low-risk passengers eligible for TSA Pre ✓ ® ; individuals on the Selectee List who are designated for enhanced screening; and those who will receive standard screening. Secure Flight also prevents individuals on the No Fly List and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Do Not Board List from boarding an aircraft. The   Travel Redress Program   provides resolution for travel-related screening or inspection issues.

IF you go to the Airline Forum on Trip Adviser, you will see this question about middle names asked every single day. There is not one case of a person being denied boarding mentioned for not including a middle name IF the first and last names are spelled correctly.

This question is not about an airline but is about a cruise line.

@sailawaybellaluna,

Call the cruise line and just add the names to the booking. Don't ask the rep questions as they are just sales people and do not know answers to questions about anything but the prices!!

A little different scenario:  My middle initial is A. and my first name is Robert.  I have been issued plane tickets for someone named Roberta.

Just checked my own passport for reference. Given name includes middle name (s) and as long as the first of those names and the surname match the cruise documents, there will not be a problem. In the future it is a good idea to use her full name to avoid confusion. I learned this the hard way when I neglected to include my middle name on my first ever international flight and had to jump through hoops and spend hours on the phone to add it. Some countries will deny entry if your passport and flight info dont match exactly, but this is not the case for a cruise.

I just booked a cruise yesterday and I asked the question again -  No middle initial on my cruise documents but it's on my passport.  Agent said no problem.  I have used my passport on cruises in the past and had no problem but I always ask.  Might be best to call your cruise line to  put your mind at ease.  Enjoy your trip!

Again, cruise "agents" that you speak to on the phone are sales people.

Their answers to questions about anything but prices are not necessarily correct.

NewKansasKruiser

II would just bring all the legal documentation that shows all those names are her.  Last cruise my daughter booked by her married last name, but her passport was still under her maiden name (drivers license was married name).  I had a picture of her marriage license on my phone that tied the two together and we had no problem.  They did ask to see the phone with the marriage license photo.  If your bank has a free notary, maybe even have a notarized statement of her legal names and all variations.

MalleyCat

Kind of off topic...I go by a shortened version of my first name.  The only places my first name is used is my social security card, passport and birth certificate.  When I began using my passport on our 7th or 8th cruise, Carnival advised me to start booking using my given name. A few weeks after the first cruise following their policy, I started getting junk mail addressed to my given name. It's crazy to see who Carnival sells our info to.

Something similar happens with my mom, and she has never had a problem. Her name is Sue Ann Smith (not really but using this as an example) with Sue Ann being her legal first name. No middle name. Her passport says Sue Ann Smith. Her DL says Sue Ann Smith. Carnival knows her and books her as Sue Smith.  On the ship, she is called Sue! No problems to date.

What likely happened is that the first booking agent thought Ann was a middle name and dropped it. Your friend will be fine!

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

We have called Carnival twice now to discuss this issue, and were told to leave it as is - with legal first and last name only. She used the example of "Mary Jo" and asked if my friend put "Mary" as her LEGAL FIRST NAME on her passport application, or did she put "Mary Jo" as her legal first name. Now, to me, it all just says "Given Names" so I don't know how anyone at the pier would decipher anyway?

So, they'll only have her cruise docs match her passport exactly if she claims the given names are ALL part of her legal first name.

I've advised her to bring her old passport from before she was married showing her maiden name, and her birth certificate specifying her middle name, so she can simply prove she combined those two for a new middle name should it be required.

Thanks for all your feedback! I realize the rules on cruising are quite different than international airline tix, which is why I wanted to triple check with all of you! Wherever I go, I make sure my reservations match my passport exactly. But I also don't have middle names or initials on my passport...

Morning Rundown: Russia may be trying to scare people away from the Olympics, Trump warns of 'breaking point' if he gets jail time, and 30 barrier-breaking LGBTQ leaders

Everyone you know is going on a cruise

Travelers on the deck of a cruise ship

Lots of people will be getting their sea legs this summer.

Ports have been packed with cruise ships over the last few years, as vacationers flock to ever larger vessels and operators race to accommodate a surge in post-pandemic bookings — many of them from first-time passengers. The industry expects even more this year.

Benjamin Xiang, a San Francisco-based flight attendant, went on his first cruise last August, setting aside his reservations about “cruise people” and a type of trip he’d imagined would be “not my travel style.”

Benji Xiang enjoyed a Virgin Voyages cruise.

Taking advantage of a Virgin Voyages promotion that let him use credit card points to cover the $2,500 bill, Xiang booked a weeklong, all-inclusive, adults-only cruise from Barcelona, with stops at Mallorca, Ibiza and along the French Riviera.“I invited my best friend, we prepaid a $600 bar tab, and we were like, ‘We’ll just hang by the pool, read a book or something,’” said Xiang, 35. “Turned out we partied every single night and had a blast.”

He’s among the many cruise newbies who’ve helped power the industry’s recent growth. Some 27% of cruise passengers over the past two years have been first-timers, up 12% from the prior two-year period, according to the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), a trade group.

Turned out we partied every single night and had a blast.

Benjamin Xiang, 35, San Francisco

“Will I go back? I think yes,” Xiang said. “Will I pay this time? Yes.”That’s exactly what cruise operators are hoping for, and so far they’re getting it: 82% of all cruisers say they’ll book again, CLIA’s latest report found.

After welcoming 31.7 million passengers last year, 7% more than in 2019, the industry expects volumes to swell to 34.7 million by the end of 2024. Experts say a combination of newcomers, repeat bookers and younger travelers are powering the uptick.

Like Xiang, many first-time cruisers are groups of friends traveling together, said Jennifer Klaussen, who owns Sundari Travel in Malibu, California.

“Once they get on a cruise and realize it’s not what they thought it would be, they’re usually interested in future cruises and diverse destinations,” she said, adding that newer operators have managed to “reduce the stigma associated with cruising — that it’s only for the elderly.”

Two cruise ships at the port

Passengers under age 40, including kids, made up around 42% of cruisegoers last year, up from 35% in 2019, according to CLIA. While the average age of a cruise customer is 46 industrywide, millennials now make up nearly the same share — 22% — as baby boomers and Gen Xers, who each comprise 24%.“The cruise industry has been hard at work to launch new ships and experiences that are attractive to a younger, newer demographic,” said Colleen McDaniel, editor-in-chief of Cruise Critic, “whether that’s a big, new ship with eye-catching attractions for families, or more bucket-list-worthy experiences like sailings in the Galapagos or Antarctica.”

The cruise industry has been hard at work to launch new ships and experiences that are attractive to a younger, newer demographic.

Colleen McDaniel, editor-in-chief of Cruise Critic

Amenities don’t hurt either, said Nathan Rosenberg, chief brand officer at Virgin Voyages, which began sailing only in 2021, as the cruise industry rebounded from the pandemic. “Millennials and Gen Z love the fact that everything is included. Think meals foodies would love, tips covered, Wi-Fi to stay connected and a ton of fitness classes,” he said.Vessels are getting bigger to handle the growing demand.

In January, Royal Caribbean Group launched Icon of the Seas — currently the world’s largest cruise ship, with 20 decks, 40 restaurants and room for more than 7,000 passengers and 3,000 crew members.

The company, meanwhile, reported a 16% increase in new cruisegoers between this year and last across its various cruise lines. Nearly half of all Royal Caribbean guests are millennials or younger, CEO Jason Liberty said on the company’s first-quarter earnings call.

Similarly, Norwegian Cruise Lines CEO Harry Sommer told CNBC earlier this month, “We appeal obviously to older customers, but millennial and Gen Z is the fastest-growing segment of our cruising right now.”

In an aerial view, Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas

Cruises generally aren’t cheap, though, and Sommer noted that the company’s target customer is middle- or upper-income. As consumer spending cools down across much of the economy, Americans are adjusting their summer vacation plans to fit their budgets. The share of travelers put off by steep prices hit 32% in Deloitte’s annual summer travel survey , up sharply from 24% last year. But more affluent vacationers still seem eager to shell out on everything from first-class airfare to luxury train trips , as the industry continues to push premium offerings .

“More higher-income travelers are headed to cruises,” whereas “lower-income travelers are going camping,” the Deloitte report, released Tuesday, said. (“RV trips are up across the board,” it added.)

That doesn’t mean cruise passengers aren’t paying attention to price.

Jaclyn Groh will be going on her first cruise in March 2025, sailing around the Caribbean. The 34-year-old therapist and social work professor at Ohio State University in Columbus typically takes her family on boat trips on a lake, beach visits, “and of course the occasional Disney adventure for the kiddos,” said Groh.

Jaclyn Groh booked a cruise for herself and her husband next year, a change of pace from family-friendly beach resorts they've visited in the past.

While some of her friends have done family cruises, she’s never been interested in the largest cruise ships because they seem “overwhelming.” But in shopping around for a vacation next year for just her and her husband, Groh said her travel agent’s description of the packages available won her over. The smaller Explora II vessel she opted for has a “boutique feel that we love,” she said. And it’s priced about the same as the resort in Curaçao where the couple will be celebrating their 10th anniversary this fall. That week on land will run about $6,500, while the cruise comes to about $6,700.

“The price seems very reasonable for all of the inclusions, and yet with the cruise we will get to experience so many new locations and excursions,” said Groh, who’s looking forward to “a perfect combination of resting in luxury and adventuring.”

Best No Annual Fee Travel Credit Cards Comparison Chart

Our methodology.

To find the best travel credit cards with no annual fee, we looked at the offerings from banks, U.S.-based airlines, and the major hotel chains. To be included in our list, cash back cards had to earn greater than 2% cash rewards on travel. Co-branded hotel and airline cards needed to earn at least two points per dollar on purchases with the brand. In most cases, we found that holding the no-annual-fee card that aligns with your travel brand preferences will earn you the most miles and points.

Carnival cruise ship rescues 25 people stranded off the coast of Mexico

cruise trip name

A Carnival Cruise Line ship responded to a call from the U.S. Coast Guard and rescued 25 people stranded in a small boat off the coast of Mexico, the company announced Saturday.

The 2,984-passenger Carnival Radiance had left Long Beach, California, on Friday and was heading toward Ensenada Mexico for a three-day sailing when the cruise ship's officers were informed by the Coast Guard "about a distress call involving a small vessel," a news release said.

The ship immediately routed toward the location of the vessel, provided by the USCG, and "quickly" rescued all 25 people on board, including three children, the company said.

The U.S. Coast Guard did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for comment.

The rescued group was welcomed onto the cruise ship and given food, water, and medical assistance. Carnival coordinated with the Coast Guard to hand off the group.

The incident did not disrupt the Carnival Radiance's schedule, the company announced.

Another Carnival ship rescued a group of 28 Cuban nationals stuck at sea as it was sailing the Caribbean and saw people signaling for help in late April. The cruise ship was headed from Tampa, Florida, to Roatan in Honduras at the time. Also last month, a Celebrity Cruises ship sailing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to multiple destinations in the Caribbean rescued a small vessel adrift between Mexico and Cuba.

Trump Has Been Convicted. Here’s What Happens Next.

Donald J. Trump has promised to appeal, but he may face limits on his ability to travel and to vote as he campaigns for the White House.

The conviction of former President Donald J. Trump on Thursday is just the latest step in his legal odyssey in New York’s court system. The judge, Juan M. Merchan, set Mr. Trump’s sentencing for July 11, at which point he could be sentenced to as much as four years behind bars, or to probation.

It won’t stop him from running for president, though: There is no legal prohibition on felons doing that . No constitutional provision would stop him even from serving as president from a prison cell, though in practice that would trigger a crisis that courts would almost certainly have to resolve.

His ability to vote — for himself, presumably — depends on whether he is sentenced to prison. Florida, where he is registered, requires felons convicted there to complete their full sentence, including parole or probation, before regaining voting rights. But when Floridians are convicted in another state, Florida defers to the laws of that state, and New York disenfranchises felons only while they are in prison.

The Trump Manhattan Criminal Verdict, Count By Count

Former President Donald J. Trump faced 34 felony charges of falsifying business records, related to the reimbursement of hush money paid to the porn star Stormy Daniels in order to cover up a sex scandal around the 2016 presidential election.

“Because Florida recognizes voting rights restoration in the state of conviction, and because New York’s law states that those with a felony conviction do not lose their right to vote unless they are incarcerated during the election, then Trump will not lose his right to vote in this case unless he is in prison on Election Day,” said Blair Bowie, a lawyer at the Campaign Legal Center, a nonprofit watchdog group.

Mr. Trump will almost certainly appeal his conviction, after months of criticizing the case and attacking the Manhattan district attorney, who brought it, and Justice Merchan, who presided over his trial.

Long before that appeal is heard, however, Mr. Trump will be enmeshed in the gears of the criminal justice system.

A pre-sentencing report makes recommendations based on the defendant’s criminal record — Mr. Trump had none before this case — as well as his personal history and the crime itself. The former president was found guilty of falsifying business records in relation to a $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels, a porn star who says she had a brief sexual tryst with Mr. Trump in 2006, in order to buy her silence.

At the pre-sentence interview, a psychologist or social worker working for the probation department may also talk to Mr. Trump, during which time the defendant can “try to make a good impression and explain why he or she deserves a lighter punishment,” according to the New York State Unified Court System.

The pre-sentencing report can also include submissions from the defense, and may describe whether “the defendant is in a counseling program or has a steady job.”

In Mr. Trump’s case, of course, he is applying — as it were — for a steady job as president of the United States, a campaign that may be complicated by his new status as a felon. Mr. Trump will likely be required to regularly report to a probation officer, and rules on travel could be imposed.

Mr. Trump was convicted of 34 Class E felonies, New York’s lowest level , each of which carry a potential penalty of up to four years in prison. Probation or home confinement are other possibilities that Justice Merchan can consider.

That said, Justice Merchan has indicated in the past that he takes white-collar crime seriously . If he did impose prison time, he would likely impose the punishment concurrently, meaning that Mr. Trump would serve time on each of the counts he was convicted of simultaneously.

If Mr. Trump were instead sentenced to probation, he could still be jailed if he were later found to have committed additional crimes. Mr. Trump, 77, currently faces three other criminal cases: two federal, dealing with his handling of classified documents and his efforts to overturn the 2020 election , and a state case in Georgia that concerns election interference.

Mr. Trump’s lawyers can file a notice of appeal after sentencing, scheduled for July 11 at 10 a.m. And the judge could stay any punishment during an appeal, something that could delay punishment beyond Election Day.

The proceedings will continue even if he wins: Because it’s a state case, not federal, Mr. Trump would have no power as president to pardon himself .
