UTracks specialises in European walking holidays for active travellers who want to get the most out of their trip by exploring Europe's back roads and villages.

There are two distinct walking tour options tailored to different preferences and travel styles.

For travellers wanting freedom and flexibility, a self-guided walking trip offers an ideal experience. These trips are designed to provide maximum independence while still ensuring logistical support and security. Travellers can explore fascinating landscapes at their own pace, armed with a navigation app, maps, and 24/7 emergency support. Accommodations are carefully chosen to reflect the essence of each destination, and luggage is seamlessly transferred between locations, making your walk far mor enjoyable.

On the other hand, for those seeking camaraderie and the expertise of local guides, a guided walking holiday is the perfect choice. Accompanied by a multi-lingual walking guide from the beginning to the end of the journey, travellers benefit from their extensive local knowledge and passion for the region. These guides work diligently to customise the experience to suit individual interests while ensuring the smooth operation of the holiday for the entire group. Group sizes typically range from 6 to 22 people, fostering a sense of community among like-minded travellers. Despite the group setting, there's always room for personal exploration, allowing individuals to make discoveries on their own.

Whether opting for the camaraderie of a guided tour or the independence of a self-guided journey, travellers on walking holidays in Europe are guaranteed memorable experiences, rich in history, culture, and natural beauty.

Blue Mountains Walking Trips

A tranquil rest spot on the Grand Cliff Top Walk in the Blue Mountains | Jannice Banks

A walk in the Blue Mountains is one of the best ways for the magic of this ancient World Heritage Area to reveal itself. While many tourists come for the spectacular views of icons like the Three Sisters, only a small portion head further down into the many valleys on foot to experience such icons from a unique angle and enjoy the rich biodiversity along the way.

Walking in the wilderness, or ‘bush’, is referred to by many Australians as bushwalking. Given its proximity to the Blue Mountains, bushwalking in the ‘Blueys’ is a popular active escape for many Sydney-siders, as well as people from all over the world who visit Australia and want to enjoy a quintessential Australian wilderness experience.

There is no shortage of walks in the Blue Mountains, which means there is a walk for everyone. Bring the kids, tackle a tougher overnight walk or enjoy a more moderately paced hike over a half or full day. All our Blue Mountains walks feature a grading level so you can choose the right hike for you

Walking in the Blue Mountains is a very special experience. As you wander past spectacular lookouts to enjoy breathtaking panoramas, hike past astounding landforms, encounter historical sites and unique wildlife and interesting vegetation, you’ll soon understand why a walk in the Blue Mountains is a must-do activity for anyone who visits our stunning region.

We also have strict minimal impact guidelines in place, following the Seven Principles of Leave No Trace , an international organisation that has set the global standard for outdoor ethics. We support their philosophy to encourage travellers to take only photos and leave only footprints.

Bonnie was a well of information. Our walking tour of Savannah with Bonnie as our guide was informative, knowledgeable, personal and filled with interesting historical facts. Walking was at an easy pace with time to sit and ask questions and included time for a break at a coffee shop. If you're looking for a small more intimate tour, Bonnie is a wonderful choice.

Photo of Janice M.

We took Bonnie's Slo-Hannah Saunter tour on our first full day in town. She is a local who knows her home town and it's history! Bonnie was extremely knowledgeable, interesting and fun! This is the perfect tour for first time visitors or returning visitors! We will definitely contact Bonnie for another tour when we return to Savannah.

Photo of Federica M.

Time well spent. A great tour for people interested in the history of Savannah coming to life. Time flew by learning about Savannah's intriguing history from Bonnie, a Savannah native, who clearly loves her city. Savannah, her streets, squares, and the people who shaped so much of what we see today in Savannah, as well as its significance and impact regionally and beyond came to life. I learned about Savannah, past and present, economics, it's role as a major port center and slavery history, as well as much early American history through both the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Thanks for a very enjoyable, and what felt like a very well paced, engrossing tour.

Photo of Annie S.

Bonnie is fantastic and knowledgeable! She went at a great pace and answered every question we had. I highly recommend!

Photo of Sally L.

I was lucky enough to do a tour with Bonnie Easter weekend of 2023. My family made last minute arrangements to come to Savannah and wanted to do a tour. I was referred to Bonnie and could not have been more thrilled. The tour was intimate and detailed. It was affordable for us being a small group. As someone who has done several tours of the city now, including some with the bigger retailers, I cherished her tailored tour, comfortable pace, and endless knowledge of Savannah histories. She truly, truly knows her stuff! If you are looking for a more connected and custom tour experience, look no further than this tour! Reach out and see what she can do for you, you will not be disappointed! I'm writing this review 6 months later because I'm still thinking of the quality of this experience. Check it out and prepare to be delighted!

Fabulous!!! We enjoyed the Historical drink tour. Bonnie is a skilled story teller. We learned a vast amount about Savannah's history and the drinks we had on the tour. Very glad we added this to our trip. One of Bonnie Blue's tours is a must for your visit.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the various cocktails that are intertwined with Savannah's history. Bonnie has an endless wealth of knowledge pertaining to Savannah as well as the drinks that are a big part of the tour.

The first stop in our Historical Drinking Tour of Savannah was at Jazz'd. Bonnie shared with us the history of the Madeira wine.

Bonnie provided an excellent tour of downtown, with lots of stories and interesting details. Be sure to book the tour early in your visit as that will make all your subsequent walks around Savannah more satisfying. We're so glad that we booked with her!

Photo of Tanya C.

We booked a tour with Bonnie after a close friend recommended that we take her walking tour. Bonnie is simply amazing and has incredible insight into all things Savannah. Bonnie offers private tours as well as small group tours. We ended up doing the small group tour since that worked best with our schedule. The small groups are limited to 10 people, but we lucked out with only 4 of us in our group. The Slo-vannah Saunter is a three hour stroll through historical Savannah. She goes at the pace of the slowest person in your group so this was a great option for me since I recently had surgery. Prior to the tour, Bonnie sends multiple reminders regarding the tour. She also includes great directions on exactly where and when you will be meeting. We met in Telfair Square for our 9am tour. We slowly made our way through about three miles of Savannah. Bonnie offers plenty of stops if you need to sit down while she provides the history of your surroundings. She also includes a short break at a coffee shop for refreshments and a bathroom pit stop. We ended up fairly close to where we started - but she's open to ending up elsewhere if you have post-tour plans. Bonnie also has a lot of great recommendations on her website - places to eat and things to do. Make sure to look her up and book a tour with her when you are in the area!

Photo of Yolonda C.

OMG absolutely love Bonnie and her Historical Drinking Tour of Savannah! Eight girlfriends and I went on the tour a few days ago as part of their 50th Birthday Celebration. We had a ball! Bonnie was a fountain of information about our drinks and Savannah. We learned so much and on top of that Bonnie is an absolute sweetheart! She pointed us to all the cool spots in Savannah, gave us great restaurant recommendations and directions after the tour. Love her and highly recommend her tours!!!

“You won’t find a better tour experience!”

“I’ve visited Oxford every year in the winter for about a decade, bringing a group of university students from the USA each time. We’ve used many tour guides over those years, with varying success. We found Heidi and Walking Tours last year, and booked her again this year. I can say without a doubt she is the best. As advertised, she customizes the experience, and she readily acceded to my list of special requests, helping our students to discover the magic of Oxford. We hope to work with Heidi for many years to come!” -TripAdvisor January 2017

Why Walking Tours Are A Great Great Option For Men Looking To Try Solo Travel

I f you're a man considering solo travel but feeling uncertain about where to start, walking tours might be your perfect entry point. These tours offer a unique blend of independence and structure, allowing you to venture into new destinations at your own pace while still having a guided framework. They're an excellent way to immerse yourself in local culture, meet fellow travelers, and uncover hidden gems that you might otherwise miss. But what makes walking tours particularly appealing for men venturing into solo travel? The answer lies in the combination of physical activity, social interaction, and cultural immersion that these walking tours provide.

What Is A Walking Tour?

A walking tour is a guided or self-directed excursion that focuses on exploring exotic destinations on foot. Typically, these trips focus on areas with unique cultural or historical areas and are generally more focused on having itineraries where you can stop at a hotel or lodge every night compared to a hiking tour where things will be a bit more rustic and more arduous of a trail.

Walking tours allow participants to immerse themselves in the local atmosphere, take in detailed sights, and experience the culture up close. This offers a unique experience compared to what you might experience if you were to do a group tour and travel by bus or other modes of transport.

These tours can range from urban explorations of city landmarks to scenic hikes through remote landscapes. A Walking tour makes a great option for a  guys trip  with a group of friends, however it is also a fantastic option for men who are looking to try a solo vacation for the first time.

Sample Destinations for Walking Tours

  • Camino de Santiago, Spain  - Perhaps one of the most famous pilgrimage routes in the world, this network of trails leads to the shrine of the apostle Saint James the Great in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. Walkers can choose from various routes, such as the French Way or the Northern Way, each offering a unique experience through Spanish landscapes and villages.
  • Tour du Mont Blanc, Europe  - Circling Mont Blanc and covering 170 kilometers, this trek passes through parts of Switzerland, Italy, and France. It's known for its breathtaking Alpine scenery and is considered one of the classic long-distance walking routes.
  • West Highland Way, Scotland  - Stretching 154 kilometers from Milngavie to Fort William, this route offers a quintessentially Scottish experience, featuring lochs, moors, mountains, and forests.
  • The Great Ocean Walk, Australia  - Stretching along the Victorian coast from Apollo Bay to the iconic Twelve Apostles, the trail offers spectacular ocean views, dense forests, and access to some of Australia’s best beaches.
  • The Lycian Way, Turkey  - This 540-kilometer trail along the coast of ancient Lycia offers a mix of Turkish and Greco-Roman history set against the stunning backdrop of the Turquoise Coast.
  • Te Araroa Trail, New Zealand  - Spanning the length of New Zealand from Cape Reinga to Bluff, this trail covers over 3,000 kilometers and showcases the country's diverse and stunning landscapes, from beaches and forests to volcanoes.
  • Rota Vicentina "Fisherman's Trail", Portugal  - Including the previously mentioned Fisherman's Trail, this network also includes the Historical Way and covers around 450 kilometers through some of Portugal’s most beautiful and unspoiled regions.

Benefits of Walking Tours for Men

If you're a man considering solo travel , walking tours offer a multitude of benefits that can enrich your entire experience and personal growth. As you embark on these adventures, you'll immerse yourself in the local culture, gaining a deeper understanding of your destination.

Walking tours provide an excellent opportunity to forge social connections with fellow travelers and locals, helping you feel more connected and less isolated during your solo experience. There are a wide variety of options out there for different styles of traveler. My uncle for instance loved to walk long distances and explore exotic landscapes. He visited Jordan and Australia on his own, walking far more than I could ever imagine.

One of the key advantages of walking tours is the physical activity involved. You'll stay active while sightseeing, combining exploration with exercise to enhance your overall well-being. The flexibility of walking tours allows you to customize your experience to your interests, giving you the freedom to focus on specific attractions or areas that intrigue you most.

As a solo male traveler, you'll appreciate the sense of independence and adventure that walking tours offer. You can venture at your own pace, stop to take in the sights, or engage with locals as you see fit. This flexibility ensures that your solo travel experience is truly personalized and memorable, allowing you to make the most of your adventure.

Cultural Immersion on Foot

As you lace up your walking shoes and step onto the bustling streets of a new city, you'll quickly realize that walking tours offer an unparalleled opportunity for cultural immersion. You'll find yourself surrounded by a lot of people going about their daily lives, giving you a genuine glimpse into the local culture. Years ago, this level of immersion might've seemed intimidating, but today's walking tours make sure you feel comfortable exploring unfamiliar territory.

As you stroll through neighborhoods, markets, and historical sites, you'll have the chance to interact with locals in a way that many would say is impossible with other forms of travel. You'll unearth hidden gems tucked away in alleyways and experience the authentic sights, sounds, and smells of your destination.

Make sure to engage with your surroundings – sample street food, browse local shops, and strike up conversations with friendly faces. This hands-on approach to cultural exploration will help you develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for the place you're visiting, creating lasting memories and connections that'll enrich your solo travel experience.

Solo Travel Confidence Boost

Walking tours can be a game-changer for men looking to improve their solo travel confidence . As you set out on these guided adventures, you'll find yourself traversing new streets and sights, gradually strengthening your self-assurance in unfamiliar environments. While it might seem a bit intimidating initially, most men quickly discover that a solo trip is a great way to clear their mind and relax.

The structured nature of walking tours provides a safety net, allowing you to venture with peace of mind while still enjoying the excitement of exploration.

You'll have the opportunity to interact with fellow travelers, fostering connections and sharing experiences that can elevate your social confidence. As you engage in group activities and discussions, you'll find yourself becoming more comfortable in new social situations.

The physical aspect of walking tours also plays a role in building your confidence, as the exercise releases endorphins, improving your mood and energy levels.

Connecting With Like-Minded Travelers

Joining a walking tour can open up a world of connections for solo male travelers seeking like-minded companions on their adventure. As you commence on these trips, you'll find yourself surrounded by fellow explorers who share your passion for exploration and new experiences. Walking tours provide the perfect setting to bond over shared interests and create lasting friendships.

As you stroll through scenic routes and investigate diverse destinations, you'll have ample opportunities to engage in stimulating conversations and cultural exchanges. You'll find yourself naturally connecting with others as you discuss the sights, share travel tips, and swap stories from your adventures. These interactions can lead to meaningful connections that extend beyond the tour itself.

The relaxed and informal atmosphere of walking tours encourages socializing and fosters a sense of camaraderie among participants. You'll feel a strong sense of belonging as you navigate new places together, overcoming challenges and celebrating discoveries as a group. This shared experience can greatly enrich your solo travel journey, making it more fulfilling and enjoyable.

Exploring Hidden Gems Solo

For the adventurous solo male traveler, delving into hidden gems on foot unveils a world of unique findings and unforgettable experiences. As you set out on your walking tour, you'll unearth off-the-beaten-path locations that aren't accessible by other means of transportation. These concealed treasures offer you a chance to immerse yourself in the local culture and history, gaining a deeper understanding of your destination.

You'll have the freedom to set your own pace and itinerary, tailoring the experience to your preferences. This flexibility allows you to spend more time at places that captivate you, ensuring a more personal and meaningful exploration. As you venture solo, you'll engage more deeply with your surroundings, fostering a sense of independence and self-discovery.

Walking tours provide an excellent opportunity to appreciate the beauty of your environment up close. You'll notice intricate details in architecture, vibrant street art, and local customs that might otherwise go unnoticed. By straying off the typical tourist path, you'll create unique memories and stories that set your travel experience apart.

Remember to stay open to unexpected encounters and discoveries, as these often become the highlights of your solo adventure.

You'll find walking tours offer a perfect blend of adventure and self-discovery for your solo travel expedition. They'll enhance your confidence, deepen your cultural understanding, and help you connect with fellow travelers.

As you investigate hidden gems and immerse yourself in local life, you'll develop a unique perspective on your destination. Remember to choose tours aligned with your interests, pace yourself, and remain open to unexpected experiences.

Welcome the freedom and flexibility of solo travel on foot.
