Tour Eiffel, Parigi sole

1. La Tour Eiffel è stata il monumento più alto del mondo per oltre 40 anni, fino all'inaugurazione del Chrysler Building a New York nel 1930.

The Eiffel Tower

Cliché it might be, but what would the City of Lights be without the brightest light of all?

Designed by engineer Gustave Eiffel and it's nicknamed La dame de fer , which means the iron lady. Since it’s unveiling for the World Fair in 1889, la Tour Eiffel as it's called in French, has attracted over 200 million visitors. Not bad for the ‘metal asparagus’ as it was so snidely called by its detractors who wanted to tear it down in 1909

If only they could see it today la tour Eiffel today...

Eiffel Tower

Built to in remembrance of the French Revolution, the Eiffel Tower is 324m high, and, until it was overtaken by New York’s Chrysler Building in 1930’s, it was the tallest tower in the world.

The Eiffel tower was not a hit with the Parisians at first, most of them agreeing with William Morris' opinion. When asked why he was at the tower so frequently, designer William Morris exclaimed "Why on earth have I come here? Because it's the only place I can't see it from."

Despite its rocky start, the Eiffel Tower is easily the most recognized and iconic construction in the world.

It gradually worked its way into the hearts of visitors and Parisians alike so these days it doesn’t provoke so much controversy but instead has been transformed into a symbol of modern and elegant Paris.

Practicalities

The Eiffel tower opens 7 days a week, visitors can choose to earn the fabulous view by climbing the stairs or cheat and hop in the elevator. If you choose to walk up, the admission is about 30% less than taking the elevator all the way.

Jules Verne restaurant

In order to avoid the gigantic queues (at worst a 2 hour wait) it is best to arrive early (9am) or late as the sun is going down.

Also in Eiffel tower you will find a café, souvenir shops, an exhibition place and the very exclusive yet delicious Jules Verne restaurant . If you visit late, hang around for the incredibly kitsch yet wonderful light show that lights up the skies of Paris every evening.

If you visit in the good weather, and don’t mind batting away the souvenir sellers, the Champ de Mars is a lovely place to lounge, eat a picnic and enjoy the incredible perspectives of la Tour Eiffel .

Something you didn't know

Back in the 1980s two Kiwis, AJ Hackett and Henry van Asch, met whilst skiing in Wanaka, New Zealand, and discovered that they were both adrenaline junkies.

AJ had recently seen a video of a group called "The Dangerous Sports Club" who were based at Oxford University about a decade before. The video showed the students attempting some experimental jumps inspired by the Vanuatu tribe in the Pacific who had been throwing themselves from a great height with only vines attached to their feet for centuries.

This video of "The Dangerous Sports Club" set AJ's imagination on fire and he convinced Henry that this could be developed further so the two set about developing and testing Bungy cords with the help of Auckland University scientists.

They both agreed the adrenaline rush you got from a Bungy could spark a trend for extreme sports. After testing some cords for their strength, the boys did their first extreme jumps from a ski area gondola in France.

Once the safety of the jumps was confirmed, AJ and Henry decided that they needed to show the public how much faith they had in their newly-created Bungy ropes.

They decided to attract the world's attention by doing a Bungy Jump from the Paris Eiffel Tower in June 1987.

AJ managed to get up the Eiffel Tower and slept there overnight. In the morning, bright and early, he Bungy Jumped down off the tower. The police were waiting and he was arrested only to be released again a few minutes later. The jump became a top news story all over the world and so Bungy took off.

The most famous sights such as impressionist mecca Mont Martre and Montparnasse as well as the equally enchanting but underground Les Marais and Invalides.

The weather in Paris can be unpredictable though. For a few reasons most people will say that the spring (April through June) or fall (September through November) are the best times to visit. In general the weather in paris isn’t too extreme in either direction (too cold or too hot), and prices on things like airfare and hotels aren’t at their peak.

Most international flights land and leave from Charles de Gaulle airport, which is situated 30km (19 miles) north-east of Paris. The two cheapest and fastest ways to get into the city from Paris CDG are by RER and by bus. The RER train from Roissy-CDG to Paris leaves from the train station in Terminal 2.

Traveling on Metro

The Paris metro is without a doubt the fastest and cheapest way of getting around the city, even if it might not be the cleanest. The Paris metro network connects at several points in Paris with the RER, the commuter trains that go from the city center to the suburbs.

Everything You Can See From the Eiffel Tower (All 3 Levels)

View of Paris from the Eiffel Tower

A visit to the Eiffel Tower is probably at the very top of your Paris bucket list, and that’s absolutely where it should be. After all, it’s impossible to visit the City of Light and not catch a glimpse of her most popular monument.

But it’s actually the view from the top of the Eiffel Tower itself that really showcases the beauty of Paris.

Standing 300 meters high, the Eiffel Tower is the tallest building in all of Paris. Which means that from the top, you’ll be treated to a seemingly endless array of visual delights stretching out in every direction. From the Sacré-Coeur to the Grand Palais, here’s a guide to everything you can see from the top of the Eiffel Tower.

Trocadero facing the Eiffel Tower

Located directly to the north of the tower across the Seine are the Trocadéro square and gardens, flanked by the Palais Chaillot and its museums. The architecture here is stunning. A beautiful fountain is lined on both sides by grassy knolls, leading up to a grand staircase on either side. This setup makes for a beautiful and unique photo composition — it’s another angle of Paris.

And directly to the south you’ll spot the Champs de Mars. A half-mile long grassy field nearly a half-mile long right under the Eiffel Tower? No wonder this is a favorite picnic spot for visitors and locals alike. It’s hard to beat the views – from the top of the tower or even from the ground!

Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre

Sacré-Coeur Basilica at Montmartre seen on the Paris skyline

Perched high atop the Butte Montmartre in the northern part of Paris is the Sacré-Cœur Basilica. Besides being an active church, it’s one of the city’s most visited monuments. Due to its position overlooking the city, this is one monument it’s best to see from high up — which makes the top of Eiffel Tower the perfect viewpoint.

Local tip: I’d recommend trying to get there during golden hour, just before sunset. At dusk, the city lights come on, and the Cathedral is backlit and even more spectacular.

Les Invalides

Les Invalides, formerly called the Hotel des Invalides

The golden dome of Les Invalides is one of the most recognizable monuments in the city, especially from the top of the Eiffel Tower. This beautiful building was constructed to be the final resting place of Napoleon, and true to his style, everything about the building is ornate and over-the-top. This is also the location of Paris’ expansive military and war museum, a must-visit if you’re a history buff.

Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe seen from the Eiffel Tower

Located at the end of the famous Avenue des Champs-Elysées, the Arc de Triomphe is one of the most recognizable monuments you can see from the top of the Eiffel Tower. If it’s a clear day, you should also be able to spot the skyscrapers of La Défense (the Parisian business district) in the distance.

Standing over 160 feet high, the arch took a whopping 30 years to construct, and serves as a reminder of French military victories.

Local tip: The Arc de Triomphe is also home to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and you can see the changing of the guard here daily.

Grand Palais

Grand Palais in Paris

Designed to resemble a train station, the Grand Palais was built as an exhibition venue for the 1900 world’s fair. Today the Grand Palais is mainly a museum, though it does host events during fashion week and is usually transformed into a giant ice skating rink come Christmas.

The palace’s beautiful glass-domed roof makes it easy to spot from the top of the Eiffel Tower — and if you can make it for sunset you’ll be in for a real treat. The sunlight’s reflections on the roof is spectacular, and if you’re snapping some pictures, it adds a special interest to your photos.

The Seine River

View of the Seine as seen from the Eiffel Tower

The Seine effortlessly winds way through Paris, separating the city into its iconic left and right banks. The river is the lifeline of the city, and the Eiffel Tower provides some of the best views of the Seine from above.

You’ll be able to see the lively river cruise boats pass by, lovers strolling the tree-lined riverbanks, and of course, life unfolding across some of the city’s beautiful bridges. Perhaps most notably, you can admire the Pont Bir-Hakeim, which you might recognize from its feature in the movie “Inception.”

The city beneath your feet: The first floor

View of the forecourt below the Eiffel Tower from the first floor

But wait — there’s more! Along with what you can see from the top of the Eiffel Tower, you can enjoy different views at each level.

There are three different levels (or floors) of the Eiffel Tower, and each one has something unique to offer in terms of vistas and activities.

Pro tip: The first two floors are accessible by foot. If you’re not afraid of a few stairs, going on foot is definitely an unforgettable experience — and you’ll get plenty of extra photo ops during the climb, too!

The first floor is the largest of the three and certainly worth a stop. Here, you’ll find the Ferrié Pavillon, which has a restaurant, bar, gift shop, and even an interactive play space for kids. In the middle of the floor, there’s a huge green space with plenty of seating options for you to relax and enjoy the view — which is especially welcome if you decided to take the stairs. But my favorite aspect of the first floor is the section with transparent flooring. You can literally watch Paris pass by beneath you.

Getting higher: what to do on level 2.

Everything you can see from the Eiffel Tower

Accessible by stairs or by elevator, the second level of the Eiffel Tower is where you can really treat yourself if the mood strikes you. Remember, you’re in Paris after all.

Here, you’ll find Le Jules Verne, the tower’s very own Michelin-starred restaurant, as well as some more upscale gift boutiques, and even a macaron bar.

What to love about the second level: At over 370 feet high, the second floor is the perfect in-between viewpoint. You’re still high above the city, but not so far in the clouds that you miss out on any of the detail. This is also where the views start to get seriously impressive and you’ll see the places we listed above, so don’t forget your camera.

A bird’s eye view: What to see from the summit

Sunset from the top of the Eiffel Tower

Now that you’ve seen the second floor, it’s time to head to the very top of the Eiffel Tower. You’ll be whisked over 900 feet up to the summit in a glass-walled elevator, so you won’t miss a second of the stunning views.

On the top floor, you can visit a historical reconstruction of the former office of Gustave Eiffel, who created the tower. The office is complete with original furniture and lifelike wax sculptures. And now there’s nothing left to do besides take in some seriously breathtaking vistas of Paris below — and maybe enjoy a glass of bubbly from the 3rd floor Champagne bar.

The Eiffel Tower wasn’t always so popular

Historic photo of Eiffel Tower platform

While I think we can all agree that the Eiffel Tower is one of the most iconic monuments in the world (partially thanks to its incredible views), this wasn’t always the case.

This may be hard to believe, but during the tower’s construction — and even for decades following — Parisians complained incessantly about this iron monstrosity taking over their city. The tower was originally meant to be a temporary exhibit for the 1889 World’s Fair, but ended up taking up permanent residence in the City of Light, even becoming the international symbol of Paris.

Views for days and memories for a lifetime

View of Paris from the Eiffel Tower

Luckily, the Eiffel Tower remained and nowadays offers some of the most impressive panoramas of Paris. So whether you choose to climb the tower on your own two feet or speed things up by taking an elevator , you know you’ll be rewarded once you reach the top.

Ottimo come sempre!

Pozzi R. Amici - 09/01/2024 Avvisi confermati di ALL

Grazie

Anonimo Famiglie - 08/01/2024 Avvisi confermati di ALL

Become an expert on the Eiffel Tower

Discover the Tower as you have never seen it before, in the company of a member of the Official Eiffel Tower Guides family, all of whom are passionate about the monument. Savor the moving experience of ascending to the Second Floor with its 360° view of the entire Paris cityscape, accompanied by your guide, who will also help you access the elevator. Your guide will then lead you down the stairs to the First Floor, at the heart of the monument's structure.

Vue depuis le 2ème étage

The tour, lasting around 90 minutes, is available in French or English, and includes no more than 12 people to ensure that everything runs smoothly. And to enhance this experience, the Eiffel Tower can offer you outstanding 10% discounts on a selection of products available in the stores (Exclusive Eiffel Tower Collection) and certain restaurants (bistro on the First Floor and the buffet on the esplanade).

Advantages of the guided tour

The tour experience

Plan du parvis

01: See you on the Esplanade

Meet your guide 15 minutes before the start of the tour at the Official Guided Tours meeting point (don't forget the security checks at the site entrances, which may take 10 to 20 minutes). Your guide will take care of you, and you will benefit from easier access to the Top.

02: Discover how the historic elevators work

From an exceptional and perfectly preserved vantage point over the hydraulic elevator shaft dating from 1899, you will gain a detailed understanding of the workings of this machinery found nowhere else in the world.

03: The magic of the ascent and the Second Floor

You can then savor the thrills of the ascent to the Second Floor. Throughout the visit, your Official Guide will be happy to share tales of momentous and everyday moments in the Tower's history with you, from the monument to the company, and from the past to the present.

03: Back down to the heart of the structure

After returning to the Second Floor (by elevator), you will take the stairs to the First Floor, at the heart of the structure. Your Guide will tell you more about the structure of the monument and the history of its construction.

04: Don't leave us without obtaining your privileges!

Once you reach the First Floor, it will be time to say goodbye to your Guide, but you can extend your visit and explore this floor a little longer, where you can take advantage of the benefits on offer by presenting your guided tour tickets. For a bite to eat, you will receive a 10% discount on a special menu served at the first-floor bistro (located in the Ferrié Pavilion) depending on the time of your visit (breakfast, lunch/snack or afternoon snack). This offer also applies to the buffet on the Esplanade! You will also benefit from an exceptional 10% discount in our official gift shops on all products in the exclusive Eiffel Tower Collection, which promotes French expertise.
