Captain Kyle and Henry were fabulous! This activity made an incredible vacation fabulous! Kyle and Henry made everyone comfortable and make the trip fun. Kyle even gave us some history of the landmarks we saw. I would recommend Kyle and Henry and this boat ride as a must do!

This day was great and so was the boat and the captain. We had our family of 4 and we went out with Brian for a full day around St John. We had such a great time and he was the nicest person and so easy to talk to. He also knew alot about the island and its history. He also made the best rum punch. (best we had while on the island for a week) BEST DAY WE HAD ON VACAY. Highly recommend this company for your boat day needs and ask for Brian.

What a great time we had. Wedding went well, and the snorkeling at water island. They took us where we saw sea turtles and stingrays. The captain and Rachel we such great hosts, so attentive and just so nice. We all enjoyed our half day tour. Can’t say enough good things about them!

We spent half day celebrating our friends one-year Wedding Anniversary on Pisces catamaran! It was such an amazing time; Captain Connor and his first mate Chelsea were excellent! It was tranquil and quite relaxing; I will certainly use them again when ever my family and friends visit us in St. Thomas! I will also recommend Seas the Day Charters and Tours to my Airbnb guests!

What an incredible day!! Captan Bryan is amazing and probably the best captain we’ve ever had! He listened to basically what we wanted to do and then crafted the itinerary to perfection. We circumnavigated St. John and he took us to some of the most beautiful spots for snorkeling and just relaxing in the water. His superb timing got us to Lime Out for lunch at JUST the right time to secure us the best Lilly pad in the house! He was personal and informative and took the trip (which would have been great by itself) to the next level. Highly recommend!!

We had an absolutely fabulous day with Glenn! Truly, it could not have been better! Glenn is a very experienced sailor and very knowledgeable about the Caribbean. He is also a great guy and we all thoroughly enjoyed hanging with him for the day. We snorkeled at several great spots in the BVI, visited Willie T's and Soggy Dollar.

Whenever we visit St John "Boat Day" is always everyone's favorite day of the the vacation. This year was fabulous! We are a 3 generation family of 11 with six kids ages 9 and under. Captain Alex and First mate Aaron found out exactly what we like to do and they made it happen. The snorkeling was amazing, lunch from the pizza boat was delicious and fun and the time out on the water all day cannot be beat. Thank you Seas the Day and especially to Alex and Aaron. Our day really could not have been better!!!

An amazing experience to St. John! We went to snorkel at 2 different places that were both beautiful! Captain Greg and Coleman were amazing and so nice. They answered all of our many questions about the island and gave us the best information. They were so knowledgeable! We never felt rushed and we felt like they wanted to give us the best experience possible. The boat was so clean and the snorkeling gear was great. Very professional. This is the charter to book!

What a way to spend a day. Met the crew at the dock, jumped on the boat, and had the time of our lives for the day. A couple of snorkel stops, a little sightseeing of the beautiful island of St. John, and then lunch at Lime Out Taco Bar. Lime Out was an excellent experience floating in the clear water surrounded by a beautiful area and eating some great tacos. This was my second trip with Stormy Pirates, and I brought the entire family as my first trip with them was great. Thanks to the crew for making this a day to remember.

We had an amazing time on their Sale Pending 2 boat. Captain Rich was funny and a really good Captain, we knew we were in good hands and safe. Tara, the crew member was so authentically attentive and caring. We had drinks all day long, sodas, water, punch, cocktails. They had fruit and muffins waiting, a scheduled pizza delivery on the boat, snorkeling equipment and the knowledge the guests needed to find sea creatures. Well we don't have all of those answers but we DO have the answers to frequently asked questions abut our awesome St. Thomas private snorkel, boat and scuba diving trips. 

• How do I book with St. Thomas Adventures? Simply fill out the contact form above or call us to check availability at (340) 474-9332. Please leave your phone number if you reach our voice mail. Once your booking is confirmed we will require a valid credit card to reserve your day. We will not charge your card unless you do not show up for your tour. If you do not show up because of your ship schedule you will not be charged for the day. See cancelation policy below.
• What is Reef-Safe Sunscreen? In recent years scientists have discovered a link between sunscreen chemicals and coral death throughout the oceans and especially in busy tourists destinations like St. Thomas. The US Virgin Islands (like HI) has passed regulations stopping the use of these damaging sunscreens. There are still plenty of great options: Sunscreens must NOT contain the following: oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate and octinoxate. Only NON-NANO zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide are safe for the reefs and your body. Remember it only takes a quarter size amount of these sunscreens for you whole body, so they will last a long time! They also stay put much better than the dangerous chemical sunscreens. We LOVE Stream2Sea products! They even have a tinted line that won't leave you white. Bring a rash guard. You will see this is what our guides use, some of our guides even wear leggings and you can also wear a large brimmed hat. We will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have, as we have tried over 30 reef safe products on ourselves and can give you recommendations but below are some of our favs.
• What is your cancellation policy? You may cancel your adventure and receive a full refund 72 hours before the actual date of your tour. Because we block out the entire day just for you,if you cancel with less than 72 hours notice or fail to show up for your tour, the full cost will be charged to the credit card used to reserve your tour. The exception is of course, if your ship does not port or is late in which your tour is 100% refundable. If you have extenuating circumstances please contact us regarding a refund.
• What if we have people in our party that don't know how to swim or snorkel? No worries! Please let us know before your tour of any special assistance required. We will always give snorkel lessons to any new snorkeler and if you can’t swim we will bring life vests to aid in swimming. Our highly trained guides are all certified first responders, rescue divers or instructors and we take safety very seriously at St. Thomas Scuba and Snorkel.
• Do you accept credit cards on the day of our tour? Yes! We can accept all major credit cards on the day of your tour. You will notice that there is a $10 discount for cash pay but if you use a CC this $10 charge is to cover the fees associated with taking cards remotely. *Again if paying in cash at the time of your tour, there are no taxes or fees and no hidden charges.
• What about transportation? Our "Multi Beach Adventure","Rent A Local" "Jeep Tours" and "local Rum/Beer Beach Tour" are the only tours that transportation is provided for the day. You can arrange to be picked up to and from your tour by calling "Mr. Nice Guy" (enclosed taxi) directly at (340) 690-7628. Please contact us for further assistance if needed.

St Thomas Excursion: St John Half Day Champagne Catamaran Sail Beach and Snorkel

St Thomas, in the US Virgin Islands, is a popular vacation destination offering picturesque beaches and gorgeous views from its lush tropical mountains. If you want to get out on the water and enjoy the salt air though, then there may be no better way than on a catamaran ride to the neighboring island of St John.

Excursion Basics

This is a four-hour excursion offered through Celebrity Cruises, which means you can book it onboard (or online ahead of your cruise).  You’ll likely find this same tour offered on Royal Caribbean International (sister company to Celebrity), as well as other lines - though the name might be different.  The cost when we went in July 2021, was $89 for adults, and $84 for kids.  The activity level is listed as strenuous, and we suspect that’s in part because many will want to snorkel, but also because the sun and the moving craft could be a bit much for some guests.

Getting To the Catamaran

On our trip, guests booked on this tour met in the theater on Celebrity Edge and then, after checking in, walked to the gangway.  Celebrity Cruises’ ships usually dock in Crown Bay Marina when in St Thomas.  This is a well-manicured port facility, which made for an easy walk to our next stop, a safari truck.

Safari trucks, sometimes just called safaris, are essentially large pickup trucks or vans with bench seats in the back that are covered above for shade, but open to the sides.  Ours looked quite new, and the driver seemed perfectly pleasant.  Once in the safari it took around 30 minutes to get to the marina where our catamaran was docked.  Driving around St Thomas can be quite pretty, though much of the time on the way there was spent in traffic before the parts of the drive with nice views.  The drive back, it turned out, would be much quicker.

The Catamaran

A catamaran is a multi-hulled boat, where the hulls run parallel to each other so that the craft has a wide beam for stability, but suffers from minimal drag.  This particular catamaran, like many, was a masted sailing vessel - but it also had inboard motors as well.  On our trip, both were used for speed and efficiency.

Often, some parts of catamarans will have netting between the hulls, so you can lay out with a breeze all around you, the ocean flowing under you, and not a care in the world...unless you have something important in your pockets.  Our catamaran indeed had such a netted area all the way forward.

Boarding & Rules

Getting on the catamaran was simple, though you’ll need to be reasonably steady on your feet and able to step at least a foot off the ground.  Once on the boat everyone found seats.  Being among the last on, I secured a seat at the aft (back) end of the craft, which didn’t offer any shade.  Boarding earlier would have allowed me to easily find a shaded spot.

The crew explained to us the safety procedures and rules, including those related to COVID.  We were literally the first group they’d had in over a year, so this meant the COVID related bits on our July 2021 trip hadn’t been tested out in practicality.  This was clear when the gentleman explaining things said that if you were seated you could take your mask off - but if you stood up you had to wear a mask.  These rules were set by the cruise line, and we’d not be surprised to find they’ve been tweaked since our visit.

Often on boat tours, you’re told not to walk around, but this wasn’t the case on this excursion, likely because catamarans are inherently much more stable in the water.  You’ll not want to walk around with a tray full of martinis, and it can get rough, but it’s a lot smoother than other boats of a similar length.

Heading to St John

We sailed from Compass Point Marina to the south, and then turned to the east-northeast to head to St John.  Our trip took us between some smaller islands and past not only resorts, but some spectacular looking homes.  One of the guides walked around handing out snorkeling gear and water.  He also did a great job of making sure he interacted with every single person onboard, having a little chat.  While chatting, he pointed out some of the local sights, including a large home that was used in a movie I’ve never seen and already forgot - I bet someone thought it was cool though.

During our 40 minute trip to St John I applied sunscreen about 37 times, which, given the sun, my complexion, and the rate at which I was perspiring, was probably slightly less than would be advisable.  I made sure only to use reef-safe sunscreen, and you should too.  Yes, we sell it in the CruiseHabit Shop , but honestly, wherever you buy it, using reef-safe sunscreens is a small thing you can do to help preserve the natural beauty and important habitats that we enjoy.

Finally, we pulled into Salmon Bay in front of Honeymoon Beach on St John.  As the captain set anchor, the other gentleman went over some basic safety tips for snorkeling, including hand signals used on the water for safety.  He explained that while we were a couple hundred feet away, and you were free to snorkel around and swim to the beach, they’d be using a small inflatable we had in town to shuttle folks back and forth if you wanted to enjoy the beach, but without the long swim.

Honeymoon Beach in St John

Salmon Harbor was full of other boats, large and small, but it was still quite peaceful, and the colors lovely.  The blue water led to white sand and was backed by lush tropical forest.  It was tempting to stay on the boat and enjoy the views, but I strapped on some fins, donned a mask and snorkel, and proceeded to be terrified that the water would be too cold.  I’ve always lived in South Florida, so any water cooler than 76F is, as Larissa (my spouse) would say, “freezing.”  Much to my delight, despite being in what I would guess was 30 feet of water, it was comfortably warm, while still being cool enough to be refreshing.

As I was getting ready for my swim I heard several people talking about sea turtles and other marine life.  They all pointed to one particular area so that’s where I headed.  The water was clear and the currents calm, so it wasn’t too tiring of a swim at all.  Despite the luck of others though, I didn’t see turtles or fish as I headed toward the shore.  What I should have done was take a good look at the boat I was swimming away from - more on that in a moment.

Once I’d arrived at the beach I noticed that there was a shaded area in which several folks had set up, including Larissa.  There was also a sign about the reef and wildlife.  This area is actually part of the Virgin Islands National Park, and there was a trail from the signage going back toward a road, which, if given more time, I’d have been curious to explore.  Looking back out to the bay though, the view was as pretty as it was looking the other direction from the boat.  

Heading Back Aboard

After some time relaxing in the sand and talking with friends, I decided to head back out to the boat, hoping to see some wildlife along the way.  Much to my dismay, I again saw nothing, but got some great video footage of that nothing on my action camera.  Crystal clear.  Continuing toward the catamaran though, I realized that I’d not taken a good mental picture to ensure I was swimming back to the right catamaran, and not one of the others docked in the bay.  Still, I somehow managed to get to the right boat just as some other guests did.  They were excitedly talking about a group of large turtles swimming right in the area I’d been for some time, so it seems I was just unlucky. 

During this same time Larissa caught the inflatable back to the boat.  She did pay attention to which inflatable to approach, as there were several of those on the beach as well.  

We secured our things, I dried off, and we both realized we were quite hungry.

Drinks & Snacks - but No Champagne

As most everyone was returning from our 45 minutes ashore, the crew started preparing some snacks and drinks.  There was water, rum punch, several types of cheese, and some fruit.  Oddly, despite the name, no champagne - though I felt the rum punch was a better "in the sun on a boat" drink anyway.  The quality of the snacks was nothing special, but when you’ve spent a day in the hot sun and been swimming around, it doesn’t take much to hit the spot.

This was, however, another area where being on the first tour on the first cruise since COVID  may have impacted our experience.  The crew was really struggling to get food and drinks prepped, and I heard one of them mention that usually they serve everything buffet style, but weren’t permitted to do so this time, so they had to plate everything and serve drinks individually.  The result was that it did take a bit of time, but it wasn’t a big deal.

Returning to St Thomas

As we set sail (literally) for St Thomas, we all shuffled around and got different seats.  Some got shade, but my friend Brandon and I opted to sit all the way forward with our feet on the netting.  This was a great perspective, and let us stay in the sun (yep, applied much more sunscreen) while benefiting from a wonderful breeze and the relaxing sound of the craft cutting through the water.  

Several times I got up to get us refills on the rum punch (and eventually water).  Walking across the netting, while in motion, carrying two drinks, wasn’t the easiest task, and I’d recommend it only for extra credit.  Many guests enjoyed the more stable benches, chairs, and even stairs, which offered plenty of ocean views as well.

Our return trip took a similar amount of time as it did to get to St John, and upon arrival, we all thanked (and tipped) the crew.  They really seemed happy to be back to work, and they were working hard - extra hard given the couple COVID related rules and challenges.

In the parking lot of the marina we boarded the same safaris to head back to the ship, but without the traffic, it was a much more pleasant drive lasting maybe half the time.  On our way, we drove down Venetian Drive and through a touristy but pretty area of Charlotte Amalie that is popular with cruisers and overnight guests alike.  Finally, arriving back at the port, we enjoyed being dropped off just a short walk from the ship, and enjoyed even more the cold towels and drinks served right next to the gangway.

Final Thoughts on the St John Half Day Champagne Catamaran Tour

We enjoyed beautiful sites and a relaxing boat ride.  No, there wasn’t champagne, and the snacks felt a bit more like a school snack break than anything fancy, but all in all it was a lovely experience.  I’d not hesitate to go on this same excursion again in the future, and hopefully catch a glimpse of some sea turtles on the next attempt.  I am very glad I brought a lot of sunscreen though, as the big tips for this tour are to stay hydrated, bring sunscreen, and don’t be the last to board if you want a seat in the shade .  If you're okay with the sun and heat, and looking to enjoy a relaxing boat ride and perhaps a swim...maybe even some of the rumored turtles...then this may be a good option for your next visit to St Thomas.

The Virgin Islands gets rain in one area or another almost every day, but they are usually short and spotty. Your captain will do their best to avoid rain clouds, but if there are dangerously high waves or strong winds your trip may be cancelled. If this happens you will have the choice of a refund or an option to reschedule. 

We offer a full refund 24 hours prior to your scheduled charter. If we have to cancel for an unforeseen event or unsafe weather conditions you will receive a full refund.

This completely depends on what you want. When you pay the full charter price for the full day or half day option the yacht becomes privately rented out by you and whoever you invite to join you.

If you want to do a full day or half day but don't want to pay the full price, let us know and we can open up the shared yacht trip to allow others to book the trip with you.

Yes, it is customary t​o tip 15-20% to your Captain as well as the crew for an excellent day.

The itinerary depends on the number of stops and the distance to each island you want to visit as well as the length of time you would like to spend at each location. We do our best to accommodate what you want to do or where you want to go. It may not always be feasible or safe depending on weather or boat traffic in the area.  A member of our team will reach out to you to discuss your desired destinations. On the day of your charter the captain will determine if your itinerary coincides with that days weather and sea state.

Snorkel two reefs that are teeming with marine life and see the wreck of a freighter that has become an artificial reef. A sleek catamaran will bring you to the snorkeling sites, which are both located just off Buck Island, a naturally beautiful oasis that is a national wildlife refuge. Turtle Cove is known for its abundant sea turtles, the most common being green and hawksbill turtles. It’s easy to differentiate between the species, as green sea turtles weigh as much as 500 pounds and are typically twice the size of hawksbills. Countless tropical fish inhabit Turtle Cove and Shipwreck Cove, the second snorkeling venue, which is named for the ship that was scuttled there in 1979. A few years later, Hurricane Hugo broke the ship into three pieces and pushed it into shallower water. While snorkeling in the coves, you can expect to see snapper, blue tangs and parrotfish of every imaginable neon color.

Enjoy the best of the Virgin Islands with a half-day sail from St Thomas to the enchanted island of St John on board a custom-designed catamaran . A relaxing and fun-filled outing begins with a short, scenic ride to a quaint marina. The friendly crew will acquaint you with the vessel, and you'll experience the thrill and excitement of sailing the Caribbean.

Glide along the eastern shore of St Thomas. A brisk sail across Pillsbury Sound brings the catamaran to its special mooring destination at St John -- the most pristine of the US Virgin Islands.

Hop into the water and swim across to beautiful Honeymoon Beach. Snorkel , beach comb, or simply relax under the palms.

Enjoy cheeses, fruits, and a variety of beverages on board. Sparkling wine and other drinks are served after swimming and snorkeling.

After your relaxing stay at the beach, delight in the tropical breezes as you make the downwind sail back to St Thomas.

Snorkel gear and instruction included. Snorkel site may vary based on weather and sea conditions. Maximum weight is 275 lbs. Minimum age is 6 years; maximum age is 75 years. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen, light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Swim at your own risk. Guests with a heart condition, epilepsy, diabetes or asthma are not allowed to participate. Waiver must be signed and medical conditions disclosed.

This St Thomas  Kayak Snorkeling Eco Tour  provides you with the opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the Island. Learn about the mangroves, wildlife and the marine environment while paddling effortlessly on your kayak in this calm protected lagoon of Cas Cay.

Cas Cay is a pristine mangrove and lagoon system which provides shelter to an abundance of marine life, iguanas, herons, egrets, and pelicans. The only way to explore this unique eco system is by Kayak, and this tour gets you out and away from the hustle and bustle and into this tranquil and peaceful sanctuary for kayaking, snorkeling, and hiking.

Upon your arrival to the Eco Adventure Centre you will be greeted by your friendly and expert guides for the day. All guides are extremely knowledgeable about the mangrove and marine ecosystem providing entertaining insight on this fun environmental adventure.

Your lead guide will give you a detailed briefing on the unique eco system you are about to enter, and his amusing but highly informative talk will be an eye opener for even the most seasoned eco adventurers!Then its off to the dock to get kitted out gear, and board your 2 person ocean Kayak, for the 1st leg of the trip.

As you leave this area, the peace and quiet of the mangroves settles over you, as you gently paddle through increasingly clear shallow tropical waters, past exotic birds and out in to the Cas Cay Marine Sanctuary. You will make a stop in the mangroves while your guide gives you an insight into what part this eco system plays in our oceans and reefs, and will point out animals, aquatic life and creatures of interest. Then, its off out to the fringing coral reef area, where you will pull your kayak up onto a deserted shell beach for the next part of your adventure.

The highlight of the tour is a guided snorkeling adventure into the shallow and clear mangrove pools and out to the fringing coral reef. Here you will see all kinds of juvenile tropical fish, taking shelter in the mangrove roots, which is essentially a fish nursery, as well as lobster, and rays. The area boasts French Angel Fish, Starfish, Octopus, Eagle Rays and Snapper. Again your guide will narrate the sea life you come across, and find the best hotspots for the beautiful varied species of reef fish you will find here.

During the tour we will disembark the kayaks in the pristine waters that encompass the mangrove environment giving you the opportunity to enjoy a refreshment break in these calm, shallow waters. Finally its back onboard the Kayaks for the return journey to the Eco Base, again winding through the enchanting mangrove islands and shallow clear waters, before concluding the trip back at the Kayak dock.

Optional Hiking Exploration

A great addition to this Eco Tour is the hiking option. If you choose this option your tour will encompass three activities: kayaking, hiking and then snorkeling.

This is more of a nature walk then a hike, and your guide will take you through the interior of the Cas Cay mangrove forest on an easy trail, past tidal pools, which eventually leads to Red Point cliffs with breathtaking views over the surf below. You will also visit a rare geological blow hole, which your guide will narrate. At this magical location, well away from any human development, you will learn more about this enchanted eco system.
