You won't be bored on a party cruise.

The magic of a cruise vacation is created with culinary delights, exotic ports of call, comfortable accommodations, carefully curated spaces and, of course, parties. These onboard celebrations can take many forms: large dance parties and quiet lounges, family-friendly and adults-only, adrenaline-pumping and relaxing activities, elegant and come-as-you-are events, and entire ships transformed into themed cruises .

Prepare for fun times on the following ships hosting the best party cruises at sea.

Royal Caribbean: Oasis of the Seas

  • Bionic Bar: For late-night parties where "mixology meets technology," order cocktails from unexpected bartenders: robots! These two specialized tech creations are well-versed in classic alcoholic and nonalcoholic cocktails, and they can also mix a bespoke drink designed by you.
  • Adrenaline-pumping amenities: Get ready for day and night thrills at four separate venues. Ripcord by iFly is billed as the only skydiving simulator at sea; North Star allows cruisers to snap stunning photos from the tallest viewing deck found on any cruise ship; Sky Pad provides a virtual reality experience while patrons jump on a bungee trampoline; and the Ultimate Abyss, named the tallest slide at sea, plunges 10 stories down.
  • Surprise events: Scattered throughout the ship are several surprise activities that pop up among the scheduled itinerary of events. Join a toga party; boogie at a disco brigade; dress for a masquerade party; or transport back in time at an '80s-inspired extravaganza.

The 9 Best Party Cruise Ships

author image

See recent posts by Jason Leppert

Depending on your travel style, how you choose to party on the high seas can mean a million different things. We've rounded up a wide array of cruise ships for every kind of traveler. To start with, you'll find classic ships for cruisers looking to party spring-break style. Expect bumping dance music, lots of nightclub action, and hosted daytime pool parties. To even things out, we've also found the ships that are best for travelers who like to mix high-octane adventure with their party antics, and even some family-friendly party ships. Read on for our nine favorite party cruise ships, from Carnival to Disney and everything in between. It's a party on the high seas.

Cruising for the first time? Make sure you don't let these cruise travel disasters happen to you!

1. Carnival Fantasy

The Main Pool on the Carnival Fantasy/Oyster

Wondering which cruise line is best for partying? Well, we found it. Carnival Cruises are hands-down the way to go for those seeking a tried-and-true cruise party experience. For starters, the cruise line has its own DJ academy that’s run by famous Las Vegas and Miami DJs. The brand essentially gave birth to the party cruise with its “Fun Ship” fleet, and the Carnival Fantasy is the most senior of those. In fact, there are a total of eight Fantasy-class sister ships that are commonly deployed on shorter weekend getaway cruises. That makes these the perfect length cruises for travelers who want to party, but not spend too many of their vacation days. Interiors are bright and colorful throughout the ships, including the the bars and nightclubs. The Fantasy itself features the line’s latest BlueIguana Tequila Bar and RedFrog Rum Bar, as well as a nightclub and theme party nights. Is this a peaceful weekend getaway? Likely not. But if you’re looking to live your wildest life, the Carnival Fantasy is for you.

2. Carnival Vista

The Beach Pool on Carnival Vista/Oyster

If you’re seeking Carnival’s slightly more refined side, the Carnival Vista may be more your speed. All the fun is still here, but the formerly flashy decor of previous ships is swapped for a more subtle beach resort aesthetic. You’ll find brand staples like BlueIguana Cantina, along with the pharmacy-themed Alchemy Bar and RedFrog Pub & Brewery offer beers that are brewed right onboard. Aside from the bars and clubs, parties are hosted at the outdoor pool deck and indoors at the Liquid Lounge. Check your cruise itinerary for theme nights, so you know which outfits to pack.

3. Norwegian Escape

Jimmy Buffett’s Magaritaville at Sea on Norwegian Escape/Oyster

Norwegian Cruise Line channels Jimmy Buffett to create the relaxed party atmosphere aboard the Norwegian Escape . The musician’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar and Margaritaville at Sea embody his philosophy of partaking in the good life. Still, passengers can get their blood pumping again with all sorts of high-octane activities. There are thrilling waterslides plus a challenging ropes course to enjoy. Broadway-worthy productions in the Stardust Theater are also thrilling. And then there are the themed parties (like the wildly popular Glow Party), which you’ll learn more about just below.

4. Norwegian Pearl

Comedy and Dancing on Norwegian Pearl/Oyster

In addition to the Norwegian Escape, the Norwegian Pearl is party central. For starters, many music festivals come to the ship, giving guests a chance to listen in on multiple live sets as well as mingle with their favorite artists. The expansive pool deck and concert-friendly Stardust Theater also make great live-entertainment venues. However, Norwegian is perhaps most famous for its themed party nights. These include Latin Night, ’70s and ’80s nights, and the Glow Party — where black lights, club music, and neon are guaranteed to make the night memorable.

5. Harmony of the Seas

Royal Promenade on Harmony of the Seas/Oyster

If you’re after a cruise ship that’s really more of a floating city, you’d do well to check out the ships of the Royal Caribbean International line. Specifically, the Harmony of the Seas . It’s one of the largest at sea, and has almost too many venues, restaurants, and bars to count. How big is the Harmony of the Seas? Well, for starters, its central Royal Promenade is big enough to host parades, and its Studio B is a multipurpose hub of activity complete with a genuine ice rink. This one even has an escape room experience — Escape the Rubicon — as well as the thrilling Ultimate Abyss spiral dry slide and AquaTheater, with performers executing all sorts of cool acrobatics and aerials. Harmony of the Seas also has a bevy of bars to keep your thirst at bay, including a robot bar and a nightclub with a light-up dance floor.

6. Anthem of the Seas

The North Star Bar on Anthem of the Seas/Oyster

Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas is another ship that mixes party-ready elements (like a dizzying number of bars) with cool thrills for those who get their kicks in more visceral ways. Or maybe you love both! Let’s start with the booze. Like sister ship Harmony of the Seas, you’ll find the Bionic Bar on board, where robots stir and shake all types of boozy concoctions to shockingly solid reviews. There’s also the North Star, which allows you to sip cocktails while dangling way above the cruise deck. For cruisers who prefer some action, check out the line’s signature FlowRider surf simulator as well as the RipCord by iFly skydiving simulator (which is especially fun lit up in neon at night). For milder, kid-friendly fun, head to the SeaPlex. Here you’ll find a video game lounge, bumper car arena, roller rink, circus school, and dance club.

7. Disney Fantasy

Disney Fantasy character show/Courtesy of Jason Leppert

It will come as absolutely no surprise that when it comes to family party time, Disney Cruise Line takes the cake. And its Disney Fantasy ship just so happens to pack in the most fun for travelers on its weeklong voyages. You can expect Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, and other recognizable Disney characters at sea, which is guaranteed to please the youngest cruisers. Best of all, the line does a fine job of providing something for everyone. Families can catch stage shows, film screenings, and opt for themed dining, as well as ride the AquaDuck water coaster and play at the AquaLab. Kid-centric destinations onboard include the Midship Detective Agency or Disney’s Oceaneer Club — where the little ones will get character visits and access to games and toys. Adults can head to Europa for The Tube nightclub or La Piazza, Ooh La La, O’Gills Pub, and Skyline bars.

8. Disney Wonder

Tiana's Place, Disney Wonder/Courtesy of Jason Leppert

The Disney Wonder may be smaller than the Fantasy, but you’ll still find plenty of family-fun party activites on board. Those include its own AquaLab interactive water park., as well as a long line-up of deck performances (including one helmed by Mickey Mouse as your ship departs port). Fireworks and pirates are also cruisers favorites. When it comes to dining, the Disney Wonder excels, especially at Tiana’s Place, a restaurant inspired by “The Princess and the Frog.” Here, a live jazz band and parade accompany your southern-inspired meals. Of course, big hits with kids include the Marvel Super Hero Academy and Frozen Adventures, which are both part of Disney’s Oceaneer Club. No Disney Wonder cruise would be complete without a visit from Queen Elsa and Princess Anna during the family-friendly “Frozen, A Musical Spectacular.”

9. Queen Mary 2

cruise party today

While it may not come to mind as a party ship at first, Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 is a wonderful option for those who want to step back in time. This ocean liner is all about creating an elegant vintage vibe, with its formal dress code and live big-band music. The ship attracts a more mature crowd than you’d find on Carnival’s ships, and far fewer families than the Disney cruises. It also has an incredibly high price tag, with luxury dining venues and the world’s only at-sea planetarium. Itineraries can be incredibly long and are often booked as a once-in-a-lifetime adventure (including around-the-world sailings). When it comes to entertainment, expect everything from Broadway-style revues to Shakespeare.

The 6 best party cruises on the high seas, from sun-deck soirees to disco dance-offs

Ashley Kosciolek

Whether you're a joiner who loves a themed shindig, a sucker for a family promenade parade, a fan of high-class ballroom dancing or a college student who enjoys a raging kegger, there's a line to fit your cruise party style.

If you're searching for a raucous atmosphere with lots of drinking and dancing into the wee hours of the morning, you'll do best on short sailings (two to four days) out of Florida or southern California. Choose a time when primary schools are in session for a more adult rather than family-focused vibe on board. College spring break weeks are often the ultimate party cruises.

If you're looking for a different kind of party — perhaps something more refined or family-friendly — which cruise line you choose is likely more important than the length of the voyage or the departure port.

Here's my list of the best party cruise lines, whether you want to drop it low or raise the roof.

Margaritaville at Sea: Best for budget bashes

cruise party today

If you're short on time, cash or both, Margaritaville at Sea — which operates just one ship, Margaritaville at Sea Paradise — is the ideal party cruise ship line. Each sailing is just two nights, and the ship runs back and forth between the Port of Palm Beach in Florida and Freeport in the Bahamas.

Because most passengers seek out the ship for a quick getaway where they can let loose during a couple of days off from work, they're often in the mood to party. (After all, it's 5 o'clock somewhere.)

You'll find pool deck dance parties, Jimmy Buffett-themed nightly shows and several bars and lounges on board. The main lounge, Euphoria, is where you can get your boogie on after hours.

To be clear, the ship is more than 30 years old, so you won't be in the lap of luxury on one of these sailings. However, the pricing is great for cruisers on tight budgets . Fares start from $299 for two people for an ocean-view cabin — just $75 per person, per night (not including taxes or port fees). You'd be hard-pressed to find land-based accommodations for that little, and Margaritaville's fares also include meals and entertainment. The best prices are offered midweek.

Want to make the festivities last a bit longer? You can tack on a two-night pre- or post-cruise stay at Margaritaville in Orlando, or book a stay of two, four or six nights at a resort in Freeport before cruising back to Florida.

Virgin Voyages: Best for trendy parties

cruise party today

Ain't no party like a Richard Branson cruise ship party, and there are plenty of them on Virgin Voyages ' ships. When the business mogul signed his name to the cruise line, it was a given that the vessels would be fresh, trendy and ready to rock.

A mix of rockstar chic and drag queen glam, a cruise with Virgin feels like one long fever dream, albeit a pleasant one. All ships are for adults only.

Passengers can expect risqué entertainment, including lounge singer-style performances; late-night parties, notably Scarlet Night, where everyone is encouraged to dress in red for a giant poolside rave; and wacky events like scavenger hunts and secret below-deck tours that take you for tipples in the crew bar after the sun sets.

What's most refreshing about Virgin's take on cruising is its "come as you are" attitude. On a recent sailing, I saw crew — men and women — dressed as merpeople, passengers who decided to wear tutus to dinner (and they weren't even a little bit out of place doing so), and singers and dancers of all shapes, sizes and ethnicities.

Virgin Voyages' ships will give you music festival vibes at sea — but with much better accommodations and fellow guests who have actually showered. (Body glitter, glow-in-the-dark clothing and fairy wings are all encouraged.)

Carnival Cruise Line: Best party drinks

cruise party today

If you prefer to enjoy parties with an adult beverage in hand, a Carnival cruise is worth your consideration. Its mixed drinks are some of the tastiest and most creative in the industry, including specialty concoctions that change color or which are topped with poppable smoke bubbles.

My favorites? Try the Cucumber Sunrise (vodka, lime juice, watermelon syrup, orange juice and muddled cucumber) at the Alchemy bar on nearly any Carnival ship or the Crystal Ball (tequila, Green Chartreuse, agave nectar and lime) at the Fortune Teller bar on Mardi Gras.

One downside is that the drinks can be pricey. If you plan to consume a lot of alcohol, you might want to consider one of the line's beverage packages , which run from $60-65 per person, per day. At that rate, you'd have to drink roughly six cocktails per day to make it worth the cost, and if you purchase the package, anyone else in your cabin who's 21 or older will have to do the same.

Like Margaritaville at Sea, the line offers affordable sailings, but it has a larger fleet of ships from which to choose — some of the best party cruise ships afloat. Also like Margaritaville at Sea, its shorter sailings tend to draw a more party-hardy crowd, so keep that in mind as you determine the level of shenanigans you prefer when you're having a good time.

MSC Cruises: Best for late-night parties

cruise party today

Are you someone who likes to party all night and sleep in the next day? MSC Cruises is a great cruise line for doing just that, especially if you're sailing on one of its Europe-based ships. (On a recent U.S.-based sailing, the club was dead before midnight, but the casino and its bar were open until well after I went to bed.)

Every vessel has a host of bars and lounges, but you'll want to make your way to the onboard nightclub, where DJs play music until well after 2 a.m., as long as there's a crowd.

Themed parties include white parties, where all passengers are encouraged to wear white, and snow parties, where the crew blasts fake snow (read: foam) onto the pool deck as passengers dance.

If you also want to party ashore, look for Caribbean itineraries that offer overnights at the line's private island, Ocean Cay Marine Reserve . After the sun sets, the body of the island's lighthouse illuminates with LED lights to create a spectacular show accompanied by a shoreside beach party.

Don't worry if you feel tired or hung over the next day. In true Italian fashion — it's a Mediterranean line, after all — the coffee is superb. Every bar has a fancy machine that can make whatever your caffeine-starved heart desires: espresso, Americano, cappuccino, latte, mocha and more. Note that specialty coffee costs extra if you don't have a beverage package.

Royal Caribbean: Best for family-friendly parties

cruise party today

Royal Caribbean is one of the most family-friendly cruise lines sailing the seas. Although the line's ships offer plenty of adult activities on board — late-night clubbing, adults-only hot tubbing and 18+ scavenger hunts — they also schedule plenty of parties for kids and families to enjoy together.

For example, every ship that's debuted since 1999 features an indoor promenade, lined with shops and restaurants, that serves as the venue for special performances. For years, Royal Caribbean's promenade parades included characters from "Shrek" and "Madagascar" as part of the line's former partnership with DreamWorks.

Now, the promenade shows feature members of the onboard entertainment staff performing well-known hits, such as the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine," while dressed in costumes. Pirate ships and other props make the experience a fantastic one for all age groups but definitely for children.

Royal Caribbean also scores off the charts in terms of kids club offerings. In addition to a battery of supervised daily activities, the staff also organizes nighttime events, including dance parties, where kids can get their groove on with new friends while enjoying mocktails.

If that isn't enough, the line hosts several theme nights, which encourage passengers to dress up. Held on sailings of four nights or longer, these gatherings, which are appropriate for all ages, might be themed as masquerade, country western, toga or decade-specific ('50s, '60s, '70s, '80s) parties.

Cunard Line: Best for high-class hootenannies

cruise party today

If animated characters, twerking and loud, pulsating music aren't your thing, you might prefer a sailing on one of Cunard 's classic, nautically styled vessels.

On Queen Mary 2, for example, you can partake in ballroom dance classes, where you'll learn to cut a rug with the best of them.

At night, take your newfound (or, perhaps, well-worn) skills back to the ballroom, where a live band plays as cruisers dance classic styles like waltz, foxtrot and swing — often in their most swanky attire. Cunard is one of the few remaining cruise lines that still has formal nights .

On a recent sailing, people nearly three times my age were up dancing until well after 2 a.m. (Seriously, a 103-year-old WWII veteran showed me up on the dance floor several nights in a row.)

During the day, when you're not honing your fancy footwork, the ballroom is used for another more sedentary type of party: afternoon tea. You won't want to miss the pastries and finger sandwiches served by white-gloved waiters. The scones and clotted cream are a party for your tastebuds.

Bottom line

Whether your idea of a party includes loud, late-night debauchery with plenty of drinks or a more laid-back gathering where passengers sip tea in a formal ballroom, there's a cruise that will allow you to cut loose in whichever way you prefer. Your preferences are, ultimately, what determine the best party cruise line for you.

Choose shorter, less expensive sailings for a more raucous experience; select a longer, pricier voyage if you're looking for understated celebrations. Either way, you're sure to have a great time.

Party Cruises

CruiseMapper logo

"Party Cruises" are fun- themed cruises on chartered boats (smaller-sized and mega-yachts and ships. On major cruise companies, such deals are offered mostly as low-season specials. Cheaper prices are also attainable with large group bookings. Spring Break is another "party time" season (not cheap though).

These voyages are perfect for fun addicted individuals who want to make the most of their cruise ship vacation - partying all day, all night long.

For your convenience, the following links jump down directly to CruiseMapper's party cruises schedule (listing companies, ships, departure dates, homeports) and shortbreak NYC cruises .

"Party Cruises" belong to the category of themed cruise travel deals. These are the lines' best offers on special (and most unusual!) sea vacations which bring together like-minded voyagers to enjoy all the same activities - together.

Party Cruises - CruiseMapper

How to find party cruise deals? Come to a travel company specialized in travel for students and young professionals who look for excitement. Choose to book a party cruise ship vacation for any size of the group. Your party cruise group could be from a few dozen passengers (a small percentage of passengers' list) to a huge party crowd taking over the entire ship!

Private party cruises are also suitable for young prosperous companies that look for a modern way to host business conferences. Party cruise ships are also a cool suggestion for week-long wedding celebrations, or entire class celebrating graduation together.

You should also count all the Christmas and New Year cruises as a special party type voyages. They got their specially themed activities, special dinner menus, special entertainment programs, special decorations - and many many special people just dying to enjoy all the festivity at sea!

"Booze Cruises" are another party themed best seller! They are operated mostly as one-night cruise deals in huge megapolises (and carnival-fun cities), like NYC New York, Miami, Los Angeles, New Orleans. Booze cruise deals are relatively expensive, but also readily available - the whole year-round.

Cruise To Nowhere - extremely rare as availability (often on new ships ), higher prices (as cabin rates PP per day). Nowhere cruise deals on big ship lines are offered also for departures from the world's biggest ports - NYC (also from Bayonne NJ), Tampa FL, Southampton UK, Sydney Australia. On smaller boats you can book one-night harbor cruises in most big port cities - Miami, Baltimore, LA, and San Francisco are among the most popular in the US.

You just find your good reason for a party voyage and a "most fun" group of companions to travel with, then make it happen - it's as simple as that!

What are the best Party Cruise lines?

Are you looking for party cruises to suit a group of friends for the summer beginning? Wondering which is the best of all party cruise lines or what are the specific party cruising offers that would be most exciting for college kids?

By the way, what do students expect from a party cruise vacation? Let me guess here:

  • Great (or at least decently good) nightlife, and each night?
  • Be around lots of girls?
  • Gorging with delicious food, and drinking alcohol perhaps?

Here comes your answer right now- Carnival, the "Fun Ships" line, the best party cruising line, like ever!

Carnival has worked hard to overcome the party-get-drunk image. The Carnival alcohol policy enforces strictly the minimum age for drinking 21 years old. Carnival lines also require any passengers under 21 years old to be accompanied by an adult, who is responsible for them and has booked into the same cabin. This adult must also be at least 25. Today Carnival "Fun Ships" attract more and more families with kids as well - because they offer low prices and many tons of fun activities.

Most Carnival vessels are indistinguishable from one other and provide the opportunity to eat and drink oneself into a stupor. Count on the brass and pink marble, twinkly signage and neon tubing, piles of a crowd that please drinks in restaurants named such as Chic, Grand Buffet, and Taste of Nations. Carnival ships boast signature water slides, kid-friendly activities, and most spacious staterooms (including many connecting cabins!).

Top Party Cruise Ships

So, from the world's largest and most famous party cruise lines, Carnival is the number one - no doubt about it! NCL and Royal Caribbean are ranked second equally - but I guess you can doubt this equilibrium. Balance is the most elusive concept.

  • Royal Caribbean ships have multilevel disco nightclubs with celebrity DJ shows.
  • Carnival ships have D's trained by DJ IRIE. Punchliner Comedy Club offers talent show every night.
  • NCL Norwegian ships offer some of the best parties at sea (featuring the White Hot Party).
  • Cunard ships have the largest and most luxurious dancing halls and balls at sea.
  • Disney ships will surprise you with their adults' nighttime offers. They don't have casinos but compensate with bars and clubs.
  • Costa ships' most popular party is the toga party.

How to choose a Party Cruise ship?

If you are among the partying kind of guys and looking for lots of young people and activities well into the night, stick with major lines and larger ships. Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Line, and NCL Norwegian Cruise Lines all have some of the world's biggest cruise ships holding more than 5,000 guests. These vessels offer a variety of bars, night clubs, and recreational facilities. They tend to attract younger and more active clientele. The 3- and 4-night voyages also provide more of a party cruise deals, especially on ships departing from Florida cruise ports.

Everybody has his/her own idea about the ideal travel vacation. Some are looking for short breaks to a relaxing place - just for getting away from the big city. Others are considering as the best vacation choice party cruise ships for their so many onboard activities. Special reasons? Top priorities are meetings with other young people, pool parties at day, deck parties in the evenings, dance parties into the wee hours - of each night!

Top 3 best party cruise ships

The following are a very special "party cruise ships" with a most specific party fun atmosphere, so you should consider:

  • Carnival Elation is not the largest ship on the seas, but she has a reputation for being one of the most fun. This based in New Orleans cruise ship makes 4-night Mexico voyages to Yucatan Peninsula, with much sea time for enjoying the fun on board. If you choose to sail on the Carnival Elation ship, be sure to find more than a dozen lounges and bars, everything from a sports bar to piano bars, full disco and a comedy club, a basketball court and a karaoke lounge.
  • NCL Norwegian Epic (the line's largest ship) has twenty bars and lounges (including the Ice Bar, only of its kind at sea), and the beach club (adults-only). Other special fun facilities on this ship are the climbing wall, an 8,000 ft2 (743 m2) fitness center, the comedy club "Second City". NCL Epic sails on 7-night weekly Caribbean voyages from Miami.
  • Allure of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas ( world's largest passenger ships EVER ) offer something (or should I say everything?) for everyone. These mega-liners invite party cruise enthusiasts with dozens of lounges, bars, restaurants (including the well-known Rita’s Cantina with its margaritas). Other amenities include the "Prohibition Era" themed parties on each sailing. Among "best party" facilities are the skating rink, the 3D-movie theater, and the two-level dance club.

In addition to the numerous party cruises with tons of onboard activities, major lines also provide different shore excursions that are specially designed to add more flavor to the cruising party experiences after you depart the ship. Beach barbecue parties and glass-bottom boat cruise party tours are among these. A few lines also schedule spring break party cruises for students.

Three friends partying in a club

The Growing Popularity of Party Cruises

Gone are the days when cruises were only for the golden years’ crowd looking to play shuffleboard on the deck. Today, party cruises are stealing the spotlight, appealing to all age groups from young adults to those reliving their youth. So what’s the buzz about?

Well, it’s partly due to options like the all-inclusive Celebrity Drink Package , which allows guests to enjoy a wide range of beverages without the worry of extra costs, enhancing the party experience. These floating entertainment venues offer an experience like no other. Forget the monotonous hotel stays and tourist traps. On a party cruise , you get an all-in-one package that combines the allure of travel with a non-stop party atmosphere. Whether you’re in your early 20s or a seasoned traveler like me, there’s something inherently exciting about a floating festival that caters to different tastes and interests. This excitement is especially palpable in cruises designed for young adults , which often feature contemporary music, vibrant nightlife, and adventurous excursions, making them a top choice for this demographic.

Norwegian Breakaway

Friends wearing white dancing

When it comes to all-around entertainment, Norwegian Breakaway is a game-changer. Want a unique drinking experience? Head to the Ice Bar , where the temperature is a frosty 17 degrees Fahrenheit . If you’re into live rock, Syd Norman’s Pour House won’t disappoint. And let’s not forget the ship’s iconic White Hot Party, also known as H2Glow at Spice H2O. It’s an adults-only event that practically defines the phrase “let loose.”

If you’re looking for a drink recommendation, I’d suggest trying The Rebellious Fish. It’s a personal favorite of mine – a delightful concoction that combines the tangy zest of orange vodka with the bubbly charm of sparkling wine.

The mix is further enriched with the tropical sweetness of passion fruit liqueur, and the finishing touch of fresh berries adds just the right amount of fruity freshness. It’s more than just a drink; it’s an experience in a glass, perfect for savoring those special moments.

Royal Caribbean Enchantment of the Seas

Pool amenity in Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship

Don’t let its Galveston base fool you; Enchantment of the Seas knows how to throw a party. With eight bars and lounges , and nine pools and hot tubs , this cruise ship has something for everyone. Whether you’re salsa dancing at Boleros or stargazing at the late-night pool deck parties, you’re in for a night to remember. One tip for making the most of your Royal Caribbean drink package is to explore the unique offerings at each bar, as each has its specialty.

If you’re in the mood for a unique drink, I highly recommend the Lava Flow. It’s a delightful spin on the classic piña colada, enhanced with a swirl of strawberry and a dash of rum. This cocktail is not only a feast for the taste buds but also a visual treat, reminiscent of flowing lava with its vibrant colors. It’s a perfect choice for those seeking to add a little extra excitement to their beverage experience.

Trust me, at this venue, the spotlight falls on the clotted cream and scones , transforming an ordinary afternoon tea into an extraordinary affair. These scones, rich and buttery, paired with luxuriously smooth clotted cream, become the centerpiece of any tea party. They’re not just a treat; they’re an experience that elevates your afternoon into a delightful culinary journey.

MSC cruises

Pool deck party on an MSC cruise

MSC Cruises ensures the fun never stops with their vibrant onboard nightclubs and a selection of bars that remain lively well into the wee hours, particularly on their Europe-based vessels. The nightlife is further enhanced by themed parties, including elegant white parties and enchanting snow parties, adding a touch of spectacle to the evening. Set sail on the magical experience that is the Disney Wish, the latest addition to Disney Cruise Line’s fleet. Designed for a multigenerational audience, the 4,000-passenger ship offers destinations ranging from the Caribbean to Alaska, with varying durations to fit different vacation needs. The cruise is not just about the destinations; it’s about creating enchanting memories onboard. One of the best Disney Cruise tips for an unforgettable voyage is to explore the ship’s themed experiences, each crafted to immerse guests in a world of fantasy and fun.

Young cruisers ages 3 to 12 can dive into worlds of wonder at the Oceaneer Club, featuring spaces like the Marvel Super Hero Academy and Fairytale Hall, where imaginative games and arts and crafts abound. Teens aren’t left out, with specialized hangouts like Edge, Vibe, and The Hideaway offering activities tailored to older kids.

On my visit to the Hyperspace Lounge, the ‘Galactic Grog’ truly added an extra touch of magic to the cruising experience. It’s a delightful concoction that transports you to a galaxy of flavors, perfect for making lasting family memories on the Disney Wish. The unique blend and themed presentation make it a must-try for anyone seeking a little extra enchantment in their journey.

Onboard Amenities: What Sets the Best Party Cruises Apart

When it comes to party cruises, the ship isn’t just a mode of transport—it’s an all-out entertainment hub. Sure, those dreamy ports of call will have their moments in the sun, but the real magic happens on the high seas with next-level amenities built for the party crowd. We’re talking DJ-led pool parties, swanky nightclubs, and cocktail menus that would make a mixologist blush.

Variety of Entertainment

One aspect that differentiates a standard cruise from a party cruise is the variety and quality of entertainment . For instance, some cruises offer DJ-led pool parties that extend into the wee hours, while others might offer eclectic musical performances that span genres, from indie bands to electro-pop DJs.

The most memorable cruises also include unique entertainment like drag shows, cabaret, comedy nights , and even interactive theatre experiences that immerse you into a different world altogether.

Wide Array of Options

A vital aspect of any party cruise is the range of bars, clubs, and dining venues available to you. The best cruises provide a wide array of options to suit different moods and preferences. You could find yourself in a sophisticated lounge one moment and a high-energy dance club the next. Dining is also a crucial part of the experience.

The top party cruises understand that great food sets the tone for a great evening, offering everything from casual eats to gourmet meals. Some even feature late-night dining venues, allowing you to refuel without breaking the rhythm of your night.

Options for Relaxation

While the party scene is essential, top-of-the-line party cruises haven’t forgotten about the importance of relaxation. They usually offer multiple pools and hot tubs , allowing you to choose between joining a high-energy pool party or enjoying a more tranquil dip. Several also boast luxurious spa facilities where you can unwind with a massage or skincare treatment.

The more expansive ships might even feature unique relaxation areas like private adult-only decks, outdoor training zones, and running tracks.

How to Choose the Best Party Cruise for You

As we’ve seen, the onboard amenities and entertainment can set the stage for an unforgettable trip. However, how can you focus your search to select the ideal cruise for you? Several factors come into play, such as your budget, preferred destination, and the onboard amenities that resonate with your idea of a good time. It’s also important to consider cruise line age policies , especially regarding drinking, as these can vary and significantly affect your onboard experience.

Your budget is perhaps the most critical factor; it will determine the cruises you can afford and the amenities you can enjoy. While some cruises offer affordable packages, premium ones can provide exclusive experiences but at a higher cost. Additionally, your destination choices can significantly impact your overall enjoyment—some might crave the high-energy nightlife of the Caribbean, while others could be seeking the relaxed, scenic beauty of the Mediterranean.

Knowing your preferred party style is equally crucial. Some people love elaborate, thematic parties that last into the wee hours, while others may prefer a laid-back atmosphere with live bands or a piano bar. In essence, choosing the best party cruise for you involves a careful balance of budget, destination, and onboard amenities to match your ideal party vibe.

Planning and Packing Tips for the Best Party Cruises

Preparation is key when setting sail for a party cruise vacation. Your onboard experience can be enhanced or ruined by the items on your packing list as well as pre-cruise plans.

The attire you bring should align with your chosen cruise’s themes and dress codes. It’s generally a good idea to pack a variety of outfits for different occasions—think casual wear for daytime, swimwear for pool parties, and chic evening attire for formal dinners and nightclubs. If your cruise line has themed parties, like Virgin Voyage’s Scarlet Night, make sure to pack appropriate outfits, like a red dress or a red suit.

Don’t forget other essentials like sunscreen, hats, and comfortable footwear. For those all-night parties, a small kit of toiletries like breath mints, facial mist, and pain relievers might be a lifesaver. Also, consider bringing a portable phone charger to capture all the memorable moments.

Before boarding, it’s a smart idea to make some important reservations. Book any special onboard dining experiences, exclusive club entries, or VIP amenities in advance to ensure availability. If your cruise line offers specialty experiences like a floating platform or rooftop garden, reserve your spot early.

For those looking to explore destinations, consider booking guided tours or activity packages before setting sail. Some cruise lines even offer pre-cruise accommodation and transport deals, so look into these to make your journey as seamless as possible.

Choosing the perfect party cruise can be a complex yet thrilling journey, one that involves considering a range of factors such as budget, destination, and onboard amenities. The experience you seek—be it high-energy dance floors, tropical cocktails by the pool, or exotic shoreside parties—will significantly influence your decision. From luxury Mediterranean voyages to energetic Caribbean itineraries, the options are endless.

With the right preparation, including a carefully curated packing list and timely reservations, you can elevate your cruising experience to new heights. Whether you’re a seasoned party-goer or a first-timer looking for an unforgettable adventure, following this comprehensive guide ensures you’ll have the ultimate party cruise experience of a lifetime.

Theme parties on cruise ships are important because they provide a unique and memorable experience for passengers. These parties create a festive atmosphere, allowing people to let loose, socialize, and have fun. They also help passengers connect with the onboard community by providing a shared interest or theme to bond over.

Common theme party activities include costume contests, live performances, dance-offs, themed food and drinks, and interactive games. These activities are designed to immerse passengers in the theme and create a vibrant and engaging environment for everyone onboard.

Popular Types of Cruise Ship Theme Parties

Formal theme parties.

Formal theme parties are a common occurrence on cruise ships. These parties often take place on elegant nights, where passengers are encouraged to dress up in formal attire. The theme could range from a classic black and white ball to a masquerade party. Formal theme parties provide an opportunity for passengers to showcase their style and elegance while enjoying a sophisticated evening of music and dancing.

Cultural Theme Parties

Cultural theme parties celebrate different cultures from around the world. Passengers can experience the vibrant traditions, music, and cuisine of various countries, immersing themselves in a multicultural atmosphere. Whether it’s a Caribbean Night or a Mexican Fiesta, cultural theme parties allow passengers to broaden their horizons and appreciate the diversity of the destinations they are visiting.

Decade or Era Based Parties

Decade or era based parties take passengers back in time to relive the excitement and fashion of a particular period. From the roaring 20s to the disco era of the 70s, these parties are a blast from the past. Passengers can get creative with their outfits and enjoy the nostalgia of a bygone era. Decade or era based parties are a hit among cruisers who love to dress up and transport themselves to a different time.

The Ultimate Guide To Cruise Ship Theme Parties

Steps to Planning for Cruise Ship Theme Parties

To make the most of cruise ship theme parties, it’s important to plan ahead and be prepared. Here are some steps to help you get ready for the festivities.

Understanding Theme Party Schedule

Check the cruise ship’s daily newsletter or online portal to find out the schedule of theme parties during your voyage. Note down the dates, times, and themes of each party. This will help you plan your outfits and activities accordingly.

Planning Your Outfits

Once you know the themes of the parties, start brainstorming ideas for your outfits. Research online for inspiration and get creative with your costume choices. Make sure to pack all the necessary items, including accessories and props, to fully immerse yourself in the theme.

Participating in Activities

Take part in the activities and games organized during the theme parties. Whether it’s a dance-off, trivia quiz, or a talent show, these activities are designed to engage passengers and add to the overall fun and entertainment. Don’t be shy and join in the excitement – you might even win a prize or make new friends along the way.

How to Choose A Suitable Outfit for A Theme Party

Choosing the right outfit for a cruise ship theme party is crucial to fully enjoy and participate in the festivities. Here are some tips to help you select the perfect attire for any theme party.

Adhering to Theme and Dress Code

Make sure your outfit aligns with the theme of the party. For example, if it’s a Hawaiian Luau party, opt for a floral shirt or a grass skirt. Also, check if there are any specific dress code requirements for the party. Some parties may have formal or semi-formal dress codes, while others may require more casual or costume-like attire.

Comfortable and Appropriate Clothing

While it’s important to dress according to the theme, always prioritize comfort and appropriateness. Consider the weather, the type of activities involved, and the comfort level of your outfit. You don’t want to be in an uncomfortable costume all night or risk being underdressed in inappropriate clothing.

Accessorizing for a Theme Party

Accessories can take your theme party outfit to the next level. Choose accessories that complement your costume and enhance the overall look. Wigs, hats, jewelry, and props can add that extra touch of authenticity and fun to your ensemble. However, make sure your accessories are safe and won’t obstruct movement or cause any inconvenience during the party.

To fully enjoy cruise ship theme parties, it’s important to immerse yourself in the party spirit and engage with fellow cruisers. Here are some tips to help you make the most of these festivities.

Getting In the Party Spirit

Before attending a theme party, get yourself in the party mood. Listen to music related to the theme, watch movies or shows that align with the party theme, or even read books or articles to familiarize yourself with the party’s cultural or historical references. This will help you feel more connected to the theme and enhance your overall experience.

Engaging with Fellow Cruisers

Cruise ship theme parties provide an excellent opportunity to socialize and meet new people. Strike up conversations with fellow cruisers who are also enthusiastic about the theme. Compliment their outfits, share your excitement about the party, and exchange stories or experiences related to the theme. Engaging with others will not only make the party more enjoyable but also create lasting memories and friendships.

Taking Part in Games and Theme Activities

Don’t be a wallflower at theme parties; actively participate in the games and activities organized. Whether it’s a dance competition, costume contest, or trivia quiz, take part and have fun. These activities are designed to bring people together and create a lively and interactive atmosphere. Even if you’re not the most outgoing person, challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone and embrace the opportunity to have a great time.

Tips for Family Friendly Cruise Ship Theme Parties

Choosing Family Appropriate Themes

When selecting theme parties to attend as a family, make sure the themes are suitable for all ages. Avoid parties that may have adult-oriented themes or activities. Look for themes like pirate night, superhero party, or Disney character night that cater to different age groups and interests.

Dressing Children for Theme Parties

Involve your children in choosing their outfits for theme parties. Let them express their creativity and imagination when selecting costumes. Make sure their outfits are comfortable and safe for them to move around in. Additionally, consider practicality – choose costumes that are easy to put on and take off, especially for younger children who may need to use the restroom more frequently.

Ensuring Safety and Comfort for Kids

While attending theme parties, ensure the safety and comfort of your children. Keep an eye on them during crowded events and make sure they stay within your sight. Dress them in breathable fabrics and provide appropriate footwear to prevent discomfort or potential injuries. Remember to bring any necessary items such as snacks, water, or entertainment to keep them occupied during the party.

Unique Cruise Ship Theme Party Ideas

Passengers can engage in discussions, showcase their fan art or memorabilia, and connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for a specific culture or fandom.

Customizing Your Cruise Experience with Theme Parties

Cruise lines often offer passengers the chance to participate in theme party planning and provide valuable input for future parties. Here are some ways you can get involved and contribute to the customization of your cruise experience.

Participating in Theme Party Planning

Some cruise lines invite passengers to join focus groups or provide feedback on potential theme party ideas. Take advantage of these opportunities and share your thoughts and suggestions. This way, you can have a direct impact on the types of theme parties that are planned onboard. Your input can help shape the future of theme parties and ensure that they align with the preferences and expectations of passengers.

Contributing Ideas for Future Parties

If you have unique and creative ideas for theme parties, don’t hesitate to share them with the cruise line. Write to them, participate in online forums, or submit suggestions through onboard feedback forms. Cruise lines are often open to new ideas and appreciate input from passengers. Your ideas could inspire exciting and innovative theme parties that enhance the overall cruise experience for everyone.

Sharing Experiences and Suggestions

After participating in a theme party, share your experiences and suggestions with the cruise line or fellow passengers. Write reviews, share photos on social media, or participate in online forums dedicated to cruise experiences. By sharing your thoughts and recommendations, you can help others make informed decisions and create a community of cruisers who can exchange ideas and tips for future theme parties.

Troubleshooting Common Theme Party Issues

While cruise ship theme parties are generally enjoyable, issues can arise that may require troubleshooting. Here are some common problems and their solutions:

Dealing with Unplanned Situations

In the event of a sudden change in schedule or cancellation of a theme party, stay calm and flexible. Cruise lines may have valid reasons for making changes, such as weather conditions or technical difficulties. Look for alternative activities or parties that are still taking place and embrace the opportunity to try something different. Remember, the cruise line’s priority is to ensure the safety and satisfaction of passengers.

Addressing Dress Code Difficulties

If you encounter difficulties with the dress code for a theme party, seek assistance from the cruise ship’s staff. They can provide guidance on appropriate attire or offer alternatives if you don’t have the necessary clothing. It’s important to respect the dress code to maintain the integrity of the theme party and create a cohesive and enjoyable atmosphere for all attendees.

Solving Socialization Concerns at Parties

If you’re feeling apprehensive about socializing at theme parties, remember that most passengers are in the same boat. Start by observing what others are doing, join group activities or games, or strike up conversations with people who seem friendly or approachable. Chances are, many fellow cruisers are also looking to make connections and have a good time. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and enjoy the party to the fullest.

In conclusion, cruise ship theme parties are a fantastic way to enhance your cruise experience and create lasting memories. Whether it’s a formal ball, a cultural celebration, or a holiday extravaganza, these parties offer something for everyone. By planning ahead, choosing suitable outfits, and actively participating in the festivities, you can maximize the fun and enjoyment of cruise ship theme parties. Families, couples, and singles alike can find opportunities for excitement and engagement, while unique and creative theme party ideas add an extra touch of excitement to your cruise. Get involved in the customization of your cruise experience and troubleshoot any issues that may arise to ensure a smooth and enjoyable theme party experience.

Tip: Cruising during winter break, spring break and summer vacation are the best ways to ensure that you will be on a fun party cruise.

2. Norwegian Joy

Norwegian Cruise Line tends to cater towards a younger crowd, so if you’re a young adult , you’ll love cruising with Norwegian. Norwegian is one of the best cruise lines for drinking, partying and having fun.

The Norwegian Joy is a newer cruise ship which began sailing in North America in 2019. This cruise ship has plenty of activities onboard including a virtual reality room, water slides and Go-Karting.

Onboard the Norwegian Joy, there is an adult only area called Spice H20 on deck 17, which is inspired by Ibiza. During the day it’s an area to grab a drink and relax, however in the evening it becomes a completely different atmosphere.

In the evening time at Spice H20, you’ll get to party and dance under the stars, something fun and unique about the Norwegian Joy.

Tip: On most cruise lines passengers have to be 21 to drink. Onboard Norwegian, passengers who are 18 years old can consumer beer or wine in international waters with the permission of a parent.

3. Carnival Mardi Gras

Carnival Cruise Line is known for having fun ships, and fun passengers who like to have a good time. On the Carnival Mardi Gras, there are plenty of activities for young people and the young at heart, such as a water park, a 600 foot ropes course and the Bolt Roller Coaster!

Since the Carnival Mardi Gras has nearly 20 different bars onboard, a fun thing for passenger to do is bar crawling. Experiencing the different bars onboard is so much fun and a great way to try the beverages that Carnival has to offer.

If you’re looking for a fun party cruise, check out the Carnival Mardi Gras. You’ll find that many of the other passengers onboard are looking to party and have a good time as well!

Tip: Short Bahamas cruises (3-4 days) usually attract those that want to party more than any other. Plan a long weekend cruise for a fun friends getaway.

4. Virgin Scarlet Lady

Virgin Voyages is an adult only cruise line that’s doing things differently. The target market for Virgin Voyages are a younger demographic , however active and open minded cruisers of all ages will feel at home.

The Virgin Scarlet Lady has a cool, fun party vibe. This cruise ship has a tattoo parlour onboard and the “Scarlet Night Party”, which is known as one of the best parties at sea.

For the Scarlet Night, cruise passengers or “sailors”, as Virgin calls them, are told to wear red. Scarlet night is a crazy pool party that is loads of fun! As the night progresses, the party moves down into the various bars and clubs around the cruise ship.

The Manor is the Scarlet Lady’s nightclub, which might be the nicest nightclub at sea! The Manor is a two story night club with a dance floor, live music and a DJ.

Since Virgin is an adult only cruise line , this means that there will be no kids. This means that the entertainment onboard is catered towards adults instead of it being family friendly.

If you’re looking to party and have the ultimate adult only experience, check out the Virgin Scarlet Lady.

5. MSC Meraviglia

The MSC Meraviglia came in 2017. This cruise ship is known for its beautiful two story Infinity atrium, glittering Swarovski staircase and its resort style pool deck. Luckily, MSC tends to be a more affordable cruise line, which attracts a lot of young adults.

Here are some things to expect on this cruise if you like to party:

The TV & Studio bar is an area where you can do karaoke, watch live shows and grab a drink. As it gets later, check out the Meraviglia bar & lounge. This is the night club area where passengers drink, dance and party late into the night.

Overall, the MSC Meraviglia is a fun and beautiful cruise. The great thing about cruising with MSC is that they tend to be very affordable vacation.

Tip: Caribbean and Mexico cruises are fun party cruises as the party continues on the beaches and affordable excursions.

6. Wonder of the Seas

The Wonder of the Seas is the newest ship from Royal Caribbean cruise line , and the largest ship in the world!

This cruise ship is very similar to the Oasis of the Seas, which is in my opinion, the ultimate party cruise. Of course, the Wonder of the Seas is new and there are even more great things to do!

Cruising on the Wonder of the Seas is a great way to travel and have fun while doing it. There is plenty of entertainment, including an Aqua Show.

Whether it’s during the day or in the evening, the party never stops on Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas.

7. Carnival Vista

Carnival Cruise Vista

Carnival Cruises are always a good time and the Carnival Vista is no different. This ship first set sail back in 2016, and it is known as an affordable and very fun cruise.

In fact, Carnival Cruise Line includes a lot , and is an amazing value for a vacation.

Since Carnival ships tend to be less expensive, they attract a fun and younger demographic. This means that if you’re a young adult, you’ll have no trouble making friends and finding people to party with in the evening time.

On the Carnival Vista, there is the Sky Box Sports Bar, which is a really nice place to watch sports game and have drinks. In the evening, Sky Box turns into a night club with a live DJ and a dance floor.

There are also deck parties, which are outdoor pool parties, with dancing and more.

During the day you can grab drinks at the Blue Iguana Tequila Bar, the poolside bar. This is a great place to have a cocktail and relax by the pool.

Overall, the Carnival Vista is one of the best cruise ships to party at sea. The various bars, entertainment venues and the fun atmosphere makes for a really good time.

8. Norwegian Breakaway

Norwegian cruise Breakaway

When I originally went on the Norwegian Breakaway, I was still a teenager and not old enough to drink. However, one thing I do remember is that the party never stopped.

On the Norwegian Breakaway, there are so many fun activities and there is a great night life. The entertainment and activities, and even the cruise director and staff are very high energy.

Bliss is the night club onboard the Norwegian Breakaway. and it is an absolute blast. With great music from the DJ, a dance floor and bar, you can’t ask for more!

As it gets later, the Norwegian Breakaway, many cruise passengers stop in at O’Sheehans, which is placed conveniently near the Bliss night club. O’Sheehans is a bar and grill that serves wings, burgers and nachos 24-hours a day.

One thing that is super unique about the Norwegian Breakaway, is that there is an ice bar (it’s actually really cold!), where your actual glass, the chairs and decor are made of ice. The Ice Bar is a popular attraction onboard the Norwegian Breakaway, so be sure to check it out.

Tip: If you’re planning on drinking on your cruise, consider purchasing a beverage package as it can cost well over $10 per drink on a cruise!

9. Anthem of the Seas

Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas is known for amazing attractions like indoor sky diving, rock climbing and bumper cars. With these amazing activities onboard, the Anthem of the Seas tends to attract young people who are looking for a good time.

The Anthem of the Seas is one of the largest ships in the world, with over 4,000 passengers. Generally, those who cruise with Royal Caribbean are either younger or, as I like to say, young at heart.

The vibe on the Anthem of the Seas is fun and everyone onboard is looking to have a great vacation.

In the evening, there are plenty of amazing shows going on that are worth seeing. From production shows, guest entertainers and comedians, Royal Caribbean is known for its outstanding entertainment.

Later at night, the party often starts in Boleros, the latin themed night club. Going to the night club is the perfect way to party and meet people, dance and have a great time.

10. Norwegian Escape

The Norwegian Escape came out in 2015, but is a favorite cruise ship for many! This cruise ship has water slides, a ropes course and many bars.

When it comes to getting drinks, there is Cellars wine bar, the Skyline Bar, which is the casino bar and the Atrium Bar, which is a great place to grab a drink and socialize with people.

The Skyline Bar is where most of the partying and dancing happens later at night.

Similarly to the Norwegian Breakaway, the Norwegian Escape has O’Sheehans, a great place to eat grab a bite to eat late at night with friends.

The Norwegian Escape is a very cool ship with plenty of activities to do. There are fun things going on throughout the day and the party goes late into the evening.

Tip: Checkout themed cruises which can be party cruises for people of all ages. Some popular ones that are known for their adult parties include Groove Cruise and Temptations (swingers cruise).

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

cruise party today

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

cruise party today

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

cruise party today

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

cruise party today

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

cruise party today

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

cruise party today

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

cruise party today

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

Royal Caribbean's family-friendly private island is about to get more crowded with Gen Xers

  • Celebrity Cruises will sail to Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay for the first time.
  • The cruise lines target different demographics, but the business case is solid.
  • The private island is scheduled on 47 of Celebrity's itineraries this year.

Insider Today

Royal Caribbean's family-friendly private island is about to get a bit more crowded — with Gen Xers.

On April 21, Gen X-beloved Celebrity Cruises will voyage to Royal Caribbean International's Perfect Day at CocoCay for the first time, marking the start of a Celebrity-CocoCay bonanza: The premium cruise line plans to visit the family-friendly getaway 47 more times before the end of the year.

According to Celebrity, these itineraries will both double its year-round Caribbean offerings and launch its first weekend cruises . And travelers are hyped: A handful of these sailings are halfway or close to selling out.

Fares start at about $277 per person for a three-day roundtrip cruise from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in which the Caribbean island is the only destination on the itinerary.

Travelers familiar with Celebrity and CocoCay might be scratching their heads

Royal Caribbean and Celebrity share the same parent company, Royal Caribbean Group .

For the most part, that's where their similarities end.

Royal Caribbean's private island is a tropical dream for cruising families dotted with sprawling beaches, clubs, a zipline, and a waterpark. The private destination is colorful, loud, kid-friendly, and generally the antithesis of what travelers might find on Celebrity's ships.

Celebrity's stylish vessels do offer children and teen programming. But if you want the exciting water slides, fun rides, and rock climbing walls of the popular mass-market ships, you're better off looking elsewhere.

Compared to Royal Caribbean's ships, Celebrity is best if you want to be on a premium, trendy, and more subdued cruise.

Related stories

If it's not obvious, the two brands are vying for different guests. Royal Caribbean goes after multi-generational families, while Celebrity's target demographic is Gen Xers, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, the then-CEO of Celebrity Cruises, told Business Insider in 2021.

Celebrity sails to 300 ports on all seven continents — why this sudden push for the private Caribbean island?

In short, cruisers love Celebrity's upcoming Caribbean destination .

Last year, Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, told analysts that CocoCay had seen robust demand, including from repeat travelers.

About two-thirds of Royal Caribbean's Caribbean-bound guests will stop at CocoCay this year. And most of them aren't complaining: "The vast majority of people love the islands," Patrick Scholes, a lodging and leisure research analyst at Truist Securities, told Business Insider in March.

But for the two brands' parent company, there are more benefits to private island cruising besides guest satisfaction.

CocoCay is one night's sailing from Florida's major cruise ports, reducing the visiting ships' fuel consumption and costs.

More importantly, these private destinations keep more profits in-house.

A day pass to CocoCay's waterpark can exceed $100 per person. Entry to the recently opened Hideaway Beach costs up to $89 per person. Nearby, an afternoon at the more luxurious Coco Beach Club could be shy of triple that cost.

Even the complimentary parts of the island have splurge-enticing amenities like rentable cabanas and snorkeling gear. And because there's no need to rely on other excursion operators, Celebrity's parent company gets to pocket more profits.

Most of Celebrity's 2024 cruises to CocoCay will be on two of its largest ships: the 3,849-guest Celebrity Beyond and 3,480-guest Celebrity Reflection. That's plenty of guests ready to spend big on the popular private island.

But that doesn't mean Celebrity cruisers will be fighting kids for beach chairs

It is possible to escape the hoards of families at Perfect Day at CocoCay. For example, the new Hideaway Beach is rowdy, boozy, and thankfully adult-only.

While not kid-free, on the other side of the island, the Oasis Lagoon pool has become the de facto hot spot for afternoon ragers "packed with intoxicated people having a really good time" on one end, and children on the other end, Bayley told reporters in late January.

If nothing else, at least there won't be any kids drinking at the island's more than 10 bars.

Tom Cruise's Daughter Suri Is Reportedly 'Free To Talk' About Scientology As She Turns 18

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes ' daughter, Suri Cruise , has lived a sheltered life away from her father's Scientology beliefs and public scrutiny. However, as she turns 18, she faces the decision to either embrace fame or remain private.

According to a Scientology journalist, Suri becoming an adult in New York will also allow her the freedom to speak about her father and the church of Scientology.

Katie Holmes Has 'Safeguarded' Suri Cruise From Public Scrutiny And Scientology

Suri has enjoyed a predominantly sheltered upbringing in Manhattan, shielded from the limelight by her devoted and fiercely protective mother, Holmes.

The teenager has been mostly kept away from her father, Cruise, and his religious organization, the Church of Scientology. According to a source who spoke to Page Six , the "Mission: Impossible" star hasn't seen his daughter since 2012.

"Katie has safeguarded Suri and she's a devoted mom," the source said. "This is a girl who is a private citizen. She hasn't lived her life in public."

With Suri's eighteenth birthday around the corner, questions arise on whether she plans to return to the spotlight or maintain her private life.

At the time of Holmes and Cruise's divorce, the actress was rumored to have signed various non-disclosure agreements, potentially restricting her from discussing her marriage to Cruise and her experiences within the Church of Scientology.

However, Suri, who will attain legal adulthood in New York State as she turns 18, has the freedom to speak openly about her father and his beliefs as she was too young to sign any NDAs during her parent's divorce.

Suri Cruise Is 'Free To Talk' About Scientology If She Wants

Speaking to the news outlet, Tony Ortega , a seasoned Scientology journalist, shared: "Suri would have been too young to sign any agreement, but she will now be free to talk if she wants to and it's going to be really interesting if she has something to say."

As Cruise is one of Scientology's prominent members, possibly second only to its leader, David Miscavige, Ortega raised questions about potential repercussions that Holmes and Suri could face.

"Regular members who quit are declared 'suppressive persons (SP),' and those who stay in Scientology are told to completely cut them off," he noted. "We don't know for sure if Katie was ever declared an SP."

Ortega added, "If you are a regular church member you could be told to disconnect from your wife and daughter, but because Tom is a celebrity — he's the top celebrity — he gets to ignore all this stuff. Your average member would be kicked out, but David Miscavige can't do that with Tom."

Former Scientologists Mike Rinder and Jeff Augustine echo Ortega's concerns about Scientology's influence on familial relationships and speculate on the treatment of Holmes and Suri within the church.

Augustine told the outlet, "The situation with Suri is a larger story about Scientology and the subject of how they make people no longer useful to them or threats to them non-persons. It's like they cease to exist and that's what happened to Suri."

Rinder particularly emphasized Suri's autonomy, asserting: "Suri is not a Scientologist and never will be…she deserves love and sympathy."

Tom Cruise Admits Katie Holmes Filed For Divorce To 'Protect Suri From Scientology'

According to Page Six , during a deposition in a legal battle against tabloid magazines in November 2013, Cruise disclosed that Holmes had filed for divorce "to protect Suri from Scientology."

However, despite their estrangement, Cruise, with an estimated fortune of $600 million, committed to providing financial support to Holmes and Suri as per their divorce settlement.

He reportedly agreed to an annual payment of $400,000 until Suri reaches 18, alongside covering various expenses, including "medical, dental, insurance, education, college and other extracurricular costs."

Holmes also secured sole custody of their daughter, while Cruise retained "meaningful" visitation rights. Yet, public sightings of Cruise with his daughter have dwindled over the years, with sources suggesting Cruise has a diminishing role in Suri's life despite legal arrangements.

Tom Cruise And Katie Holmes' Marriage Was Strained Because Of Scientology

Cruise first famously professed his love for Holmes in May 2005, leaping on Oprah Winfrey's couch and yelling, "I'm in love!"

The former lovebirds reportedly tied the knot in a lavish Scientologist ceremony in Italy in 2006.

However, as time passed, insiders revealed that the "Batman Begins" actress was feeling increasingly stifled by Cruise's ties to the church of Scientology, which caused a strain in their relationship.

Six years after they tied the knot, Holmes initiated divorce proceedings, aided by her father, Martin Holmes, a powerful divorce attorney.

Employing covert tactics, including the use of burner phones, Holmes allegedly "blindsided" Cruise with the divorce filing while he filmed "Oblivion" in Iceland in June 2012.

Tom Cruise Says He 'Always Wanted To Be A Father' And 'Be There' For His Children

Growing up as the only daughter of a devoted single parent presents a stark contrast from the beginnings of Suri's life.

Born on  April 18, 2006, the teenager was initially thrust into the limelight as America's most famous baby and was even captured by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz.

In the same year of Suri's birth, Cruise confessed to Vanity Fair  that he "always wanted to be a father."

He added, "I always said to myself that my children would be able to depend on me and I would always be there for them and love them — that I'd never make a promise to my kids that I couldn't keep."

"I'm not one of those people who believe you can spoil a child with too much love. You can never give a child too much love. There's just no way," he added.

72 Fun & Unusual Things to Do in Moscow

fun things to do in Moscow

  • 0 Pinterest

Sure, Moscow is the Russian political capital and the nation’s most populous city, but describing it as such couldn’t be any further from the truth. More accurately, Moscow is a city of contrasts.

It exudes history — its Kremlin dates back centuries, nodding to royalty and leadership old and now, while the famed Red Square, the poster child of the city, blends striking color with ancient tradition and religion.

On the other hand, it’s a city of modern pop culture and towering skyscrapers; a place where you’ll come across new-age museums, arts centers, manmade parks, and an efficient transportation system that’s one of the most beautiful in Europe.

It’s a city of longstanding culture — the Bolshoi Theater is an international symbol for excellence in classical dance, while Russia’s National Ballet Company remains renowned worldwide — as well as upbeat nightlife, with some of the world’s most celebrated rooftop bars and nightclubs.

While it’s a city filled with opposites, there remains no shortage of things to do in Moscow for all types of travelers — from those who want cultural immersion to those looking for an epic night out, you’ll be spoiled for choice. And if you’re not sure where to start, here’s a list of suggestions!

The Moscow Kremlin

If there’s any particular district begging to be the first place you visit on your trip, it’s the Kremlin.

Built in the 16th century by Ivan the Terrible, the UNESCO-listed area has since become the heart of Russia’s capital city, where you’ll find several churches, palaces, and other noteworthy buildings.

We’ll dive into each of its main attractions in a second, but regardless of what you visit, try to make it to the Kremlin in time for sunset — because seeing its golden domes glinting in the late-afternoon light makes for one spectacular tourist photo!

1 – Admire the abundance of Kremlin towers | the Kremlin

Kremlin towers, Moscow

As your eyes dart down the towering red-brick Kremlin wall, the first thing you’ll notice is its large towers of all different styles and sizes.

With a whopping 20 separate minarets towering above the historic area, each with its own name, colors, features and history, a guided tour to learn each of their fascinating stories is a must.

To give you a little taste, the Konstantin-Yeleninskaya Tower once housed a torture chamber. Saviour’s Tower at the main entrance boasts a famous chiming clock, the Secret Tower houses a secret escape tunnel, and the Trinity Tower is the tallest of them all.

2 – Visit the enormous Grand Kremlin Palace | the Kremlin

Grand Kremlin Palace, Moscow

A remarkable attraction in terms of both beauty and history, the Grand Kremlin Palace is an ornate rococo-style building that was commissioned during the reign of Nicholas I, and today acts as the official residence of none other than the Russian president, Vladimir Putin.

Perched atop Borovitsky Hill, its 125-meter-long facade is unmissable, making for impressive photos.

Take note: guided tours are few and far between, so you’ll have to book a few weeks in advance if you want to check out the decorated inner sanctum.

3 – People-watch in Cathedral Square | the Kremlin

Cathedral Square, Moscow

One of the most popular areas in all of Moscow (sometimes called Sobornaya Square), with multiple massive churches at its heart, Cathedral Square is flanked by several historic buildings and is never shy of a tourist crowd.

The three main churches — each spectacular works of architecture in their own right — are the Cathedral of the Assumption (the oldest and the biggest of all Kremlin churches), the 16th-century Cathedral of the Archangel Michael (known for its beautiful Corinthian gables and turrets), and the golden-domed Cathedral of the Annunciation (which connects to the Grand Kremlin Palace’s main building).

Throw in the 60-meter-high Ivan the Great Bell Tower, the lesser-known Church of the Twelve Apostles , the Church of the Deposition of the Virgin’s Robe (underrated yet famous for its marvelous stained-glass windows), and the medieval residence-turned-museum that is The Patriarch’s Palace, and you can see why this square is regularly number one on any visitor’s list of things to do in Moscow.

4 – See a show at the State Kremlin Palace | the Kremlin

State Kremlin Palace, Moscow

Just like the Grand Kremlin Palace , this theater and prestigious concert hall — with its grandiose facade and multiple sculptures — is another ornate building that’s worth admiring.

A popular place to hold conferences, the State Kremlin Palace was originally built as part of a larger complex for Communist Party meetings, but today hosts some of the biggest events in Moscow — we’re talkin’ sold-old ballet performances, world-famous concerts, opera shows, and festivals.

Check the website to see what’s on the calendar for your visit!

5 – See centuries worth of national treasures at the Armoury Chamber | the Kremlin

Armoury Chamber, Moscow

For anyone with an interest in historical weaponry and armor, this museum — which dates back to the early 1500s when it was created as the royal armory — is a must-see.

The Armoury Chamber (as well as the Diamond Fund Exhibition) is home to some of the most valuable objects that were originally owned by Russian monarchs — from jeweled heirlooms and intricate boxes to ornately decorated pistols and swords — many of which are centuries old.

Within the armoury chamber, you’ll also find the Russian historical regalia, a collection of artifacts that belonged to Russian tsars and emperors between the 13th and 20th centuries, highlighted by the Ivory Throne and the Monomakh’s Cap.

6 – Step inside the Palace of the Facets | the Kremlin

Palace of the Facets, Moscow

The Palace of the Facets is one of the most underrated buildings in all of Moscow, largely because it’s not as widely promoted or photographed even though its exterior adorns some postcards.

From the outside, it blends in with the crowd. But step inside and you’ll discover a world of beauty and wonder — its frescoes, golden columns and enormous rooms are a sight to behold

The Palace of the Facets is not only a piece of art (literally, with painted walls), dating back over 500 years, but also acted as the dining hall for the Tsars.

7 – Feel small next to the Tsar Bell | the Kremlin

Tsar Bell, Moscow

Making Philadelphia’s famous Liberty Bell look diminutive in size, this monument , which never actually functioned as a bell due to its immense size (at 205 tons and standing 20.1 feet high!), has found fame in recent years for being the heaviest attraction inside The Kremlin.

With the bronze landmark’s claim to fame of being the biggest bell in the world, it presents as a great, quick photo op when roaming through the Kremlin.

8 – Check out the Senate Palace | the Kremlin

Senate Palace, Moscow

Another architectural masterpiece that’s tucked away within the Kremlin, this palace is famous for being one of Moscow’s most beautiful buildings — its yellow façade curves around to face inward and truly engulf anyone who stands near it.

Built back in the late 1700s, today it houses the Russian presidential administration and, unfortunately for us, is off limits to the general public.

Still, admiring it from outside, with the nearby Tsar Cannon, is certainly good enough.

9 – Grab a photo in front of the Tsar Cannon | the Kremlin

Tsar Cannon, Moscow

One of Moscow’s most iconic symbols, Tsar Cannon (or Royal Cannon) is a cannon that was manufactured in 1586 and resides — yep, you guessed it — within The Kremlin.

Following the theme of the enormous Tsar Bell, it weighs a whopping 39 tons — making it one of the world’s largest cannons even though it has never been shot.

And while its size may be impressive on its own, what makes this cannon so special is that it’s adorned with intricate carvings, ornaments, inscriptions, and a figure of a horse-riding Tsar Feodor the Bellringer.

10 – Join a tour of the Terem Palace | the Kremlin

Terem Palace, Moscow

A stunning, fairytale-like palace that’s steeped in history and detail, the five-story Terem Palace is one of the most underrated attractions within The Kremlin. However, as part of the official residence of the Russian President, much of it is off-limits to snap-happy tourists.

That said, there’s still plenty to be seen in the accessible areas by joining a group tour: a beautiful white-stone carved staircase; curved, decorated, and painted ceilings; and an enchanting low-vaulted Antechamber with lancet windows.

The Red Square

As we move away from the Kremlin, our next stop is the most photographed, picturesque public area in the country.

Flanked by gorgeous, colorful towers and buildings, the Red Square is the most famous square in all of Russia — and one that’s steeped in history, patriotism, and communist symbolism.

Home to some of Moscow’s greatest landmarks including St Basil’s Cathedral (featuring its iconic onion domes), Lenin Mausoleum, GUM department store (an architectural masterpiece that is the most famous shopping mall in Russia), The State History Museum, and more, it’s not just a sight to see in Moscow but also one that has been seen by hundreds of millions from around the world.

11 – Make your way inside St. Basil’s Cathedral | Red Square

St. Basil’s Cathedral, Moscow

Built back in the early 1500s, this quirky-looking, 65-meter-tall Orthodox church is so unique and detailed that it’s earned its place as one of 16 UNESCO cultural sites in Russia — and, thanks to many Hollywood productions like Bond: Skyfall (2012), has only continued to increase in fame.

Its exterior boasts multi-colored domes crowned with golden onion top spires. Meanwhile, inside, you’ll find nine small, separate chapels, and plenty of decorated walls and windows — all best viewed as part of a walking tour of Red Square.

12 – Visit the State Historical Museum | Red Square

State Historical Museum, Moscow

One of seven museums that can be found around the expansive Red Square, the State Historical Museum is one of Moscow’s most revered.

Housed in a neoclassical building (the same as GUM), it features more than 4 million items relating to Russian history — making it so vast and incredible that you’ll need at least two hours inside to see just a fraction.

While you’re in the area, be sure to check out the Marshal Georgy Zhukov Monument, a towering horse-riding statue of arguably the most famous and heroic Soviet military commander of WWII, which can be found in front of the museum.

13 – Shop till you drop at GUM | Red Square

GUM department store, Moscow

The official state department store of Russia, having opened in 1893 and become one of Moscow’s most iconic attractions for shopaholics over the years, is known for its gorgeous architecture that looks more like a palace than anything else.

Entering through its massive golden doors, you’ll be surprised to find an extensive shopping center with more than 100 luxury and world-renowned brands of clothing and accessories for men, women, and youngsters.

Even if you don’t plan on buying anything, stop into the Gastronom №1 for a bite to eat or take a stroll through its corridors to appreciate the building’s history and beauty.

14 – Visit Lenin’s Mausoleum | Red Square

Lenin's Mausoleum, Moscow

Another iconic Red Square attraction is Lenin’s Mausoleum, a small yet foreboding building that houses the embalmed corpse of Communist leader Vladimir Lenin (who led Russia through the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917).

Opened in 1930 after his death and standing at more than 12 meters tall, it presents as both a unique and macabre site — and, considering the life-like nature of the body, certainly isn’t for the faint of heart.

Note: Entrance is free of charge, but expect to be searched by security before being allowed in.

15 – Ride the Moscow Metro, enjoying the beautiful stations along the way

Moscow Metro, Russia

As we leave the Red Square, the next cab off the rank is Moscow’s unbelievable artistic Metro network (rivaled only in beauty by that of Stockholm). Constructed between the 1930s and 1950s, its stations were built by hand with a wide range of artistic themes — from socialist realist to Slavic pagan.

Tips: The best way to experience them is as part of a Moscow Metro tour, which can be booked online. However, if you prefer exploring solo, then make sure to visit the Mayakovskaya Metro Station which is known for its seemingly endless archways.

You may also check out Dostoyevskaya, named after a famous writer with murals depicting his stories. The Ploshchad Revolutsii Metro Station is another option where a handful of Socialist statues provide a wonderful contrast to the red marble arches.

While it’s not always winter (though if you want to make the most of your snowy trip, come between December and March), as soon as that first snowfall hits, it’s time for snowmobile tours. Make for a fantastic way to explore the out-of-the-way locations and magical forests beyond Moscow’s city limits.

Even if you’ve never ridden a ski-doo or snowmobile before, the friendly expert instructors will be with you every step of the way, with safety and enjoyment always priorities.

54 – Crank your head skywards in Moscow City

Moscow International Business Center, Moscow

A stark contrast to the ancient and colorful onion domes in the Red Square, Moscow City’s skyscape (aka the Moscow International Business Center ) is full of towering, modern glass-heavy (even twisting) skyscrapers. Many of which are vying at the top of the list of Europe’s tallest buildings.

At 374 meters tall and with 95 floors — and a wonderful restaurant on its 60th floor — the Moscow Federation Tower is a popular choice for tourists. Meanwhile, the 85th and 86th floor of the OKO Towers play host to a Russian restaurant and skating rink respectively.

Be sure to walk through the modern Bagration Bridge and, for the shopaholics, check out the stores and IMAX theater inside AFIMALL City.

55 – Check out Zaryadye Park

Zaryadye Park, Moscow

Within arm’s reach of the famed Red Square, the peaceful slice of greenery that is Zaryadye Park is a breath of beautiful and natural air amidst the concrete jungle. It’s the first new city park to be opened in Moscow for more than half a century.

At various points around the 10-hectare park, you’ll find a few restaurant pavilions, a media center, a museum and a botanical collection housing over a million plants. It also houses the two-stage Zaryadye Concert Hall where thousands of passersby take a seat on the steps every day.

While you’re there, don’t miss the Chambers of the Romanov Boyars, an unusual museum above the northern side of the park.

56 – Stroll around the cozy Hermitage Garden

Hermitage Garden, Moscow

Small yet incredibly charming and found conveniently smack-bang in the middle of the city, the Hermitage Garden is a perfect spot to relax and unwind after a day of learning about Russia’s vast history.

Surrounded by the Sfera Theatre and The Kolobov Novaya Opera Theatre of Moscow , this lovely, leafy garden can be both a relaxing oasis or the prelude to an entertaining evening out.

57 – Treat yourself to a ballet show at the Bolshoi Theatre

Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow

With a reputation that precedes it, the impressive and world-famous Bolshoi Theatre is a must for any theater lover. Its rich history is making it one of the most iconic theaters in Europe.

While there are several performances to choose from throughout the year — from ballet to opera, classic dramas and even acrobatic shows — you can also get your own private backstage tour.

58 – Get artsy, then party at ArtPlay

ArtPlay, Moscow

This old tea factory turned cultural hub of Moscow’s creative arts is heaven on earth for rotating exhibitions by local artists.

Depending on what piques your interest, you can join in on everything from live music to dance classes, art studio workshops, flea markets and film screenings here. However, after the sun goes down, its alter-ego comes out to play.

So, if you’re feeling peckish, stop into the Domozhilov restaurant nearby for a shashlik. Then wash it down at the English pub with a beer before partying it up at Rodnya, a pumping techno club.

59 – Head to the PANORAMA360 Observation Deck

PANORAMA360 Observation Deck, Moscow

A surefire hit for the social media feed, the observation deck at the top of Moscow’s Federation Tower skyscraper — PANORAMA360 — is a must-see selfie stop for its killer views and … ice cream factory.

From the 89th floor, you can soak in the wonder of Moscow old and new from above. It has floor-to-ceiling windows providing 360-degree vistas, a rotating restaurant and mini-cinema to boot.

60 – Throw down a picnic blanket in Sokolniki Park

Sokolniki Park, Moscow

One of the largest green spaces in Moscow, Sokolniki Park is a very popular gathering place for locals and visitors alike.

Spread across the northeastern Sokolniki District, it’s the perfect distance from the city’s main haunts where the crowds remain small but the accessibility stays high.

With its many activities — from sports to live music to festivals — not much beats this park when it comes to outdoor fun!

61 – Catch a traditional Russian dance show

Russian dance shows in Moscow

To get a true sense of the rich and diverse culture in Moscow, you can’t go past one of its many folk dance shows.

While there are several to choose from, “Kostroma” and “The Golden Ring” are two crowd favorite choices. Each is thoroughly unique with traditional music and costumes sure to make for a once-in-a-lifetime night of entertainment.

Of course, due to high popularity, be sure to book in advance.

62 – Book a table at the White Rabbit restaurant bar

White Rabbit restaurant bar, Moscow

Perched above the historical center of Moscow on the 16th floor of the Smolensky Passage building, this lavish restaurant is a must-visit for any foodie-obsessed traveler. Why? Because it continually ranks as one of the top 50 restaurants in the world.

The drool-worthy menu made by fifth-generation chef Vladimir Mukhin consists of creative, beautiful plated meals. The coveted eaterie also boasts 360-degree panoramic views of the city and a fine collection of wines and cocktails.

63 – Have dinner inside the Vysoko-Petrovskiy Monastery

Vysoko-Petrovskiy Monastery, Moscow

Whether you’re an architecture or history buff, while visiting Moscow, it would be a shame to miss out on the rare chance to eat in an actual monastery.

This one is particularly special as it dates back some 700 years. Not only will you get to dig into an authentic Russian menu, but learn about the history of the building and (depending on your booking package) get a guided tour too.

64 – Pass by the ‘Children Are the Victims of Adult Vices’ sculpture

Children Are the Victims of Adult Vices sculpture, Moscow

This free public art installation in Bolotnaya square was created by Mihail Chemaikin in 2001. A somewhat controversial landmark, it depicts how children are influenced by vices — alcohol, theft, ignorance, violence, addiction, poverty and war, to name a few.

The sculpture’s uniqueness and thought-provoking nature makes it an essential stop on any day of wandering around.

65 – Get wild on a pub crawl!

pub crawls in Moscow

You’re on vacation, so it’s time to let your hair down, mingle with some fellow thirsty travelers and party it up Moscow-style!

High-energy pub crawls are a great way to get acquainted with new friends while seeing Moscow’s unique nightlife scene first-hand. Let the locals lead you to hidden gems, tourist hot spots and quirky dive bars.

If you don’t feel like walking, why not join a Soviet minivan crawl instead (where you can drink Soviet champagne onboard!)?

66 – Roll up for the Nikulin Circus!

Nikulin Circus, Moscow

If you haven’t had the chance to see a live circus before — and especially if you’re traveling with kids — why not head over to the Nikulin Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard?

It blends traditional Russian acrobatics with modern-day technology, animals, and the classic circular circus stage. This beloved local entertainment is also considered one of the most enjoyable things to do in Moscow!

67 – Get romantic on a Moskva River dinner cruise

dinner cruises in Moscow

What better way to take in the city’s skyline than from a luxury yacht as you enjoy entertainment, fine dining, and (strong) specialty drinks?

Whether you’re looking for something large that can accommodate groups of friends or something smaller with a bit more VIP style, there are several dinner cruises available to suit any taste and budget.

68 – Explore the wonderful Izmailovo District

Izmailovo District, Moscow

One of the city’s best-kept secrets, Izmailovo ‘s focal point is its Kremlin, a colorful wooden complex. Built in 2007, it has had unique museums and flea markets pop up nearby in the years since.

Throughout the area, you’ll uncover museums dedicated to vodka, break and Russian folk art. The district’s charming open-air flea market has all kinds of crafts and souvenirs are haggled on the daily.

Don’t miss Izmailovo Park , which is an enormous 300-hectare space that plays host to souvenir vendors, forest walking paths and even an ice rink in winter.

With so much to see in the district, savvy travelers typically opt for a guided tour.

  • Izmailovo tours

69 – Sip on a cocktail at the award-winning City Space Bar and Lounge

City Space Bar and Lounge, Moscow

Self-dubbed as one of the world’s top 10 bars, with accolades like Luxury Travel Guide’s Bar of the Year 2018, this iconic and luxurious watering hole doesn’t need much of an introduction.

Perched sky-high on the 34th floor of Swissotel Krasnye Holmy, the circular lounge bar slings signature cocktails and dishes up truly stunning views of the city.

Hot tip: While there’s never a poor time to visit, aim to arrive an hour or so before sunset, that’s when the city will truly sparkle below.

70 – Pamper yourself at the Sanduny Baths

Sanduny Baths, Moscow

If you’re looking for something to ease that throbbing headache after a night of pub crawling, why not try the famous Sanduny Baths , a quintessentially Russian experience?

Famed as one of the world’s most beautiful public bathhouses, Sanduny’s steam rooms and pools are said to be some of the best in Moscow. But for something totally unique, you can’t go past the birch twigs massage (read: beating).

71 – Spruce up your social media feed at some Insta-worthy restaurants

insta-worthy restaurants in Moscow

While a good meal is always part of the restaurant experience, getting a good pic for Instagram is half the fun!

Luckily, there are tons of excellent eateries that combine great food with gorgeous aesthetics.

Big Wine Freaks has a fantastic drink selection (naturally), and its dark, classy rooms full of elegant light fixtures and plush furniture bring to mind a spy’s hideout.

Meanwhile, Sempre adopts more of a naturalistic approach, surrounding diners with ferns and greenery.

And at Black Market Moscow , you can choose between indoor and outdoor spaces, each featuring their own unique designs and dining experiences.

Take a bite and snap some pics!

72 – Unleash your inner party animal at the Night clubs

nightlife in Moscow

When the sun goes down, you’ll get to see a whole new side of Moscow: its amazing nightlife!

Head to Propaganda for a bite or a beverage, then dance to some quality club tunes.

Or get a little wild at Chesterfield , where you can pay a flat fee and drink as much as you want – the perfect recipe for fun!

And at Rock’N’ Roll , there’s a new form of excitement every day, from DJ sets to live bands, all playing a lively mix of rock music from across the decades.

With all this excitement, you won’t want to book anything early the next day!

How to get to Moscow?

Unless you’re feeling up to the challenge of a long train journey, you’ll most likely be flying into Moscow.

Luckily, it has three international airports to choose from: Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, and Domodedovo.

Once you’ve arrived, you’ll be able to easily reach the city via the Aeroexpress train.

Where to stay in Moscow?

Golden Ring Hotel  will make you feel like you’re on top of the world, whether you’re getting pampered at the beauty salon or enjoying a meal in the rooftop restaurants.

Or check in to Radisson Slavyanskaya Hotel & Business Center , which boasts everything from riverside views and a gym to nearby shopping areas and relaxing Turkish baths.

At AZIMUT Hotel Olympic Moscow , the massages, international cuisine, sauna, and swimming pool will keep you happily occupied in between excursions.

And at sister property AZIMUT Hotel Smolenskaya Moscow , you can savor a nice meal or admire the scenery from the lounge, or stroll over to Gorky Park or roam along Stary Arbat Street.

Meanwhile, Oblaka Hotel blends simple charm and a convenient location, with charming red brick exteriors and easy access to historic sites and a metro station.

Where to go next?

If you’re short on time but still want to see the best of Moscow, try some multi-day tours ; they’ll provide all of the coolest sights and experiences in an efficient format.

After that, it’s time to start exploring further afield!

Though it’s a bit of a trek, St. Petersburg is well worth the journey!

With its famously decadent buildings to its lively arts scene, this is the perfect place to soak up some culture; but there are also some more offbeat options, like folk shows, vodka tastings, and even an amusement park!

1 dead after shuttle bus crashes at a Honolulu cruise ship terminal

HONOLULU — One person died and multiple people were injured when a shuttle bus collided with pedestrians and concrete barriers at a Honolulu cruise ship terminal, authorities said Friday.

The crash occurred when the shuttle bus driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake, Honolulu police said in statement.

The driver had dropped off customers at Pier 2 when bystanders noticed the bus was moving forward, police said. The driver jumped in the driver’s seat and attempted to stop the vehicle when he stepped on the gas, police said.

One pedestrian, a 68-year-old woman, died. Paramedics took four others in their 50s and 60s to the hospital in serious condition. They also took a man in his 70s to the hospital in stable condition.

Paramedics evaluated and bandaged six others who declined transportation to the hospital, said Honolulu Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Shayne Enright.

Police said speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved, police said.

The partisan identification of registered voters is now evenly split between the two major parties: 49% of registered voters are Democrats or lean to the Democratic Party, and a nearly identical share – 48% – are Republicans or lean to the Republican Party.

Trend chart over time showing that 49% of registered voters are Democrats or lean to the Democratic Party, and 48% are Republicans or lean to the Republican Party. Four years ago, Democrats had a 5 percentage point advantage.

The partisan balance has tightened in recent years following a clear edge in Democratic Party affiliation during the last administration.

  • Four years ago, in the run-up to the 2020 election, Democrats had a 5 percentage point advantage over the GOP (51% vs. 46%).

The share of voters who are in the Democratic coalition reached 55% in 2008. For much of the last three decades of Pew Research Center surveys, the partisan composition of registered voters has been more closely divided.

Partisans and partisan leaners in the U.S. electorate

About two-thirds of registered voters identify as a partisan, and they are roughly evenly split between those who say they are Republicans (32% of voters) and those who say they are Democrats (33%). Roughly a third instead say they are independents or something else (35%), with most of these voters leaning toward one of the parties. Partisan leaners often share the same political views and behaviors as those who directly identify with the party they favor.

Bart charts over time showing that as of 2023, about two-thirds of registered voters identify as a partisan and are split between those who say they are Republicans (32%) and those who say they are Democrats (33%). Roughly a third instead say they are independents or something else (35%), with most of these voters leaning toward one of the parties. The share of voters who identify as independent or something else is somewhat higher than in the late 1990s and early 2000s. As a result, there are more “leaners” today than in the past. Currently, 15% of voters lean toward the Republican Party and 16% lean toward the Democratic Party. By comparison, in 1994, 27% of voters leaned toward either the GOP (15%) or the Democratic Party (12%).

Party identification and ideology

While the electorate overall is nearly equally divided between those who align with the Republican and Democratic parties, a greater share of registered voters say they are both ideologically conservative and associate with the Republican Party (33%) than say they are liberal and align with the Democratic Party (23%).

Bar charts by party and ideology showing that as of 2023, 33% of registered voters say they are both ideologically conservative and associate with the Republican Party, 14% identify as moderates or liberals and are Republicans or Republican leaners, 25% associate with the Democratic Party and describe their views as either conservative or moderate, and 23% are liberal and align with the Democratic Party.

A quarter of voters associate with the Democratic Party and describe their views as either conservative or moderate, and 14% identify as moderates or liberals and are Republicans or Republican leaners.

The partisan and ideological composition of voters is relatively unchanged over the last five years.

(As a result of significant mode differences in measures of ideology between telephone and online surveys, there is not directly comparable data on ideology prior to 2019.)
