New UAE travel agency to hire 50 employees
A newly-launched travel agency in the UAE plans to open nine branches across the Gulf region and aims to hire 50 employees in order to cash in on the growing number of tourists, said a senior company official. UAE-based Al Basel Group of Companies has launched Tuwaiq Travel Agency which will have two branches in the UAE and seven in neighbouring Gulf countries, recruiting 50 travel specialists and other support staff, said Basel Al Kasem, Founder of Al Basel Group. Real estate consultancy JLL said a report earlier this week that the UAE tourism industry is expected to witness positive and stable growth rate over the next three to five years. According to JLL UAE received 18.935 million tourists in 2013 compared to 16.66 million in the previous year. It projected 10.6 per cent compound annual growth rates for the emirates tourism industry in the next five years. Al Basel Group has a number of subsidiaries including Najd Luxury Rent-A-Car, Al Basel Real Estate Brokers, Al Basel Consultancy and Amani Investments. The new travel agency, to be headquartered in Dubai World Central in Jebel Ali, is looking to target the region’s middle and upper class segments from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Turkey and Egypt. Basel Al Kasem, Founder, Al Basel Group, said it was decided to launch travel agency after it achieved up to 35 per cent increase in consultations for the high-end travel. He said: “All roads lead to the Middle East as more and more tourists are opting to visit the region and see the many tourist attractions that we have to offer. The UAE’s recent win to host Expo 2020 has also acted like a catalyst that brings the UAE and the rest of the region in the spotlight, which is expected to drive in a large influx of visitors. This just means more business for our hotels, resorts and airports… The new office will be staffed with world class tourism professionals who will always be on hand to serve the needs of our clients.”

The Dawn of a New Age for Tuwaiq Palace
A Jewel of Cultural Heritage and Luxury Hospitality in Saudi Arabia
Riyadh’s Tuwaiq Palace was built as a cultural meeting place, where international dignitaries were introduced to Saudi culture and shared their own. Under PIF-owned Boutique Group, the landmark takes on another high-profile role – celebrating the Kingdom’s cultural heritage while setting a new benchmark as an ultra-luxury boutique hotel immersed in a sense of place.
Tuwaiq Palace has guarded over Riyadh for four decades, a proud symbol of Saudi Arabia’s rich cultural heritage. Perched atop a plateau in the Diplomatic Quarter and visible from kilometres away, it embodies the spirit of openness and cultural exchange that has come to define the Kingdom under the visionary direction of His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Originally envisioned as a diplomatic club, the property has served as one of the country’s most important international meeting points, having hosted government functions, state receptions and cultural festivals for almost 40 years. In that time, it has introduced Saudi culture and customs to the international community, and is where high-profile global dignitaries presented their own to the Kingdom’s leadership.
In March 2024, the grand dame had her swan song in the public sphere, hosting an elegant reception by the Ministry of Tourism to celebrate Saudi Arabia welcoming 100 million tourists. The cultural landmark will now be redeveloped by Boutique Group into an ultra-luxury boutique hotel, one of the first in the Kingdom.
Tuwaiq Palace’s iconic structure nods to two local archetypes, the fortress and the tent, a connection to past desert civilisations. It also incorporates an oasis – a symbol of life in a harsh, arid landscape. Designed by local firm Omrania & Associates in collaboration with Germany’s Atelier Frei Otto and the UK’s Bureau Happold, the property opened its doors in 1985. Its architectural significance was recognized with the prestigious Aga Khan Award in 1998, further cementing its status as an iconic structure.
Boutique Group, a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund, is contributing to the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals of growing the hospitality industry and establishing Saudi Arabia as a premier tourism destination by transforming historically significant palaces into ultra-luxury boutique hotels. Alongside Tuwaiq Palace, the group’s previously inaccessible royal residences include Jeddah’s Al Hamra Palace and The Red Palace in the heart of old Riyadh. Boutique Group is giving Tuwaiq Palace a new lease of life as a one-of-its-kind property offering guests a unique local urban experience. It will feature more than 90 keys, including suites and villas, as well as public event spaces, an opulent spa, and a selection of high-end food and beverages outlets.
The Group’s dedicated culture and heritage team is incorporating Saudi’s cultural and historical heritage into all the palaces, blending tradition with the highest standards of modern amenities and state-of-the-art facilities. Tuwaiq Palace will retain its status as an architectural masterpiece, with its majestic façade and intricate detailing reflecting the Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage and seamlessly merging traditional Saudi elements with contemporary design principles.
Perched regally on a plateau within the Diplomatic Quarter, Tuwaiq Palace stands as an iconic landmark, offering a breathtaking view of Wadi Hanifah and its surrounding splendour. Inside, the interiors are meticulously adorned with natural materials like wood, leather, and pottery, carefully selected to harmonize with the surrounding environment.
Tuwaiq Palace is rising as a beacon of modern luxury hospitality, offering discerning guests an unparalleled experience immersed in Saudi Arabia’s rich heritage. The property provides an oasis of tranquillity and sophistication amidst the bustling capital city, and guests can expect personalised service, gourmet dining, and world-class amenities, ensuring an authentic and memorable stay that transcends expectations. Additionally, the palace’s strategic location in the picturesque valley of Tuwaiq adds to its allure, offering guests a serene retreat amidst nature’s splendour.
As Saudi Arabia continues its journey towards economic diversification and cultural development, Tuwaiq Palace remains poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the Kingdom’s hospitality landscape. With plans to welcome millions more in celebration of the Kingdom’s cultural heritage, the property stands as a symbol of the country’s commitment to preserving its legacy for future generations.
The traditions of hospitality and generosity have been an integral part of Saudi Arabia’s identity and intangible culture for thousands of years. With the Kingdom expanding its international presence in hospitality, this spirit lives on. Boutique Group and its properties such as Tuwaiq Palace are set to redefine the sector at the intersection of history and magnificence, and set a new industry benchmark – for Saudi Arabia and beyond.

Tuwaiq Sculpture 2024: Live sculpting symposium and vibrant public program
Wednesday, January 10, 2024 Favorite
The 5th edition of Tuwaiq Sculpture is making its return to Riyadh, inviting the public to witness artists sculpting new works and participate in a diverse program featuring panel discussions, talks, guided tours, and interactive workshops.
As a vital component of the Riyadh Art program, which envisions Riyadh as a “gallery without walls,” Tuwaiq Sculpture aims to showcase over 1,000 artworks throughout the city in the coming years. Since its launch in 2019, the event has collaborated with 120 renowned local and international artists, engaging thousands of visitors.
In the current edition, 30 artists from Saudi Arabia and around the world will create large-scale sculptures to be installed as permanent public artworks across the city. This initiative aims to foster creativity, engage diverse communities, and enrich lives through art.
Curated by Marek Wolynski (Lead Curator) and Fahad Aljebreen (Associate Curator), Tuwaiq Sculpture 2024 explores the theme ‘Dimensions of Movement.’ This theme symbolizes progress and expansion, mirroring the rapid advancements of modern society. It encapsulates the energy of Riyadh’s ongoing transformation, reflecting its ambitious drive towards innovation and new horizons. Sculptors are encouraged to craft bold, awe-inspiring artworks that transcend boundaries, convey speed and power, expand perceptions of space and time, and embody the Saudi spirit of progress and boundless potential.
Marek Wolynski remarked on this year’s festival, stating, “Echoing Riyadh’s transformative journey, Tuwaiq Sculpture 2024 provides a range of opportunities to explore three-dimensional art in all its facets.” The festival serves as a dynamic platform where art, community, and urban transformation converge.
Artists from 20 countries will create their sculptures on-site at ROSHN Front from January 14 to February 8, 2024. Visitors can observe live sculpting from 10 am to 12:30 pm and 2 pm to 5 pm every day except Sundays, with workshops and other public activities on selected evenings.
This year introduces the exclusive use of granite as the primary artistic medium, adding a new dimension to Tuwaiq Sculpture and showcasing artists’ adaptability and creativity with this formidable material.
The public program at ROSHN Front during the festival will feature 15 panel talks, over 30 workshops exploring sculptural forms, and masterclasses from prominent artists like Saddek Wasil and Amr Abuzaid. The program caters to both beginners and those at intermediate levels, including over 20 educational visits by local schools and universities.
Following the 23 days of sculpting, the completed artworks will be exhibited at ROSHN from February 12 to 24, 2024, before being permanently relocated across the city, enriching the Riyadh Art collection.
Sarah Alruwayti, Tuwaiq Sculpture Director at the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, notes, “Tuwaiq Sculpture, now in its 5th Edition, has become a significant international event on the global sculpting calendar.” She welcomes 30 artists from 20 countries, emphasizing the event’s role in fostering collaborations between artists and art communities worldwide.
