best bites houston

The Booze, Bites and Historical Sites tour was one of my favorite things we did in Houston on our vacation! Star was an incredible guide and gave us such a unique history of downtown Houston. The food and craft cocktails we tried were all delicious and the restaurants we stopped at were all very hospitable. This tour is an absolutely must for visitors and locals alike, HIGHLY recommend!

Had the pleasure of going on this tour with Star. She provided so much knowledge about downtown and delivered it in a way that keeps you captivated and intrigued. I left the tour nice and full and feeling good from the cocktails. Overall, 100% recommend. Don't miss out on this one.

Our team had a great experience on our food tour - what a fun team activity versus just sitting in a restaurant. Food was interesting and very good. Star was very personable, had a great loud voice that was perfect for a tour guide. Learned some new things about the city and specifics about the restaurants and chefs as well! Thanks again!

This is a great tour! Star does wonderful job showing her guests around the city through food. We explored the historic district of downtown Houston and made 4 stops for food and drink pairings. It was a great day being a tourist in our own city and exploring places close by that we didn't know existed!

This tour was incredible. Just enough bites and booze and you learn something along the way! Star, our guide, was fantastic. You can feel the passion she has for the city and its history, and she goes out of her way to make sure everyone is having a great time. Not enough can be said about the amazing tour!

Clean, shiny, new, and impressive, Downtown Houston rises above the dusty plains and swamplands – a true metropolis. Like the other major Texan city of Dallas, Houston has been described as concrete jungle (or a spaghetti bowl) of endless freeways, yet it somehow manages to tower over the stream of engines, with a glittering uber-American presence. There is much to discover in and around Downtown Houston, and perhaps best of all, the thrilling, inspiring skyline is visible for 50 miles from every direction because of how flat the lands are as its shown in Houston walking tour map. For this view alone, as well as for the remarkable buildings, parks, theaters and other attractions, it is worth taking this self-guided walk.

Walking tours allows you to get in excellent contact with the various attractions, engage the tour guides and get answers to any fascinating attractions you come across. Houston has an enviable experience awaiting anyone in need of detailed walking tours. Whether you are a looking for history, or you are a huge fan of NASA, or perhaps you are a foodie who wants to sample some of the fine restaurants where great culinary diversity from all parts of the world can be found, Houston walking tours have something for everyone. If you are a foodie, or you love great flavors, then the tour of Flavors of Sugar Land Walking Food Tour you must never miss. The trip will see you visit the southwest neighborhood of Sugar Land with stops in three or four of the best restaurants in the area for a sample of their respective cuisines as its mentioned in Houston walking tour map. The tours are always for groups of thirteen people to keep it small and allow everybody to have personal experience.

WEATHER ALERT

4 warnings and 3 advisories in effect for 34 regions in the area

Local animal shelters in need of help following devastating derecho.

Corley Peel , Reporter

HOUSTON – Walking over wires and air ducts, Behavior Training Manager, Melissa Taylor, gave KPRC 2 a post storm tour of the Friends For Life Animal Shelter.

“The portable air conditioner feeds cool air into each kennel and just imagine how scary it is for the dogs,” said Taylor.

According to Taylor, the temperature inside the shelter varies from 70 to 90 degrees, depending on the time of day. The shelter is at capacity. With two generators, it is still not enough to comfort the animals.

“It’s pretty terrible. Some of them don’t feel like eating,” said Taylor.

The yard where the dogs play is covered with debris and fallen trees. Tarp is covering part of the damaged fence.

  • ‘It is outrageous:’ Mayor Whitmire says seniors at Houston assisted living facility abandoned by management after storm

Taylor said the shelter has had an issue with people trying to return fosters or dropping off their pets after experiencing damage to their homes.

“Many of those folks had animals and now they don’t have a place for the animals and now they’re bringing them to the shelter. So we are overloaded. We are desperately asking for help. From fosters for people to take in animals. Just for a week, two weeks,” said Taylor.

Volunteers and supplies are also sparse.

“We’re solicitating for donations, monetary otherwise just to keep things going here. As of now, we don’t know when this is going to let up,” said Taylor.

To volunteer, foster, adopt or donate to Friends For Life visit friends4life.org or email [email protected] or call (713) 863-9835

Other animal shelters in the area are also struggling after the storm.

According to a statement from a spokesperson for BARC:

“They had to stop adoptions and intake for two days (Friday and Saturday). They canceled surgeries, too. They had no power in three buildings, and one building is still having A/C issues. The animals were/are okay, but they did not allow non-essential staff to work because of safety issues. They are very close to maximum capacity. They will be open tomorrow for adoptions to help clear kennel space. They need to keep things moving because if they don’t the situation could cascade pretty fast.”

To contact BARC call (832) 395-9084 .

The Rescued Pets Movement posted images on social media of the damage sustained on their roof after the storm, along with a message asking for help as they try to reopen their doors and continue finding Houston-area pets forever homes.

  • Rescued Pets Movement seeks donations after storm knocks out portion of facility’s roof

“Without a stable roof, it’s challenging to provide the safe and comfortable environment our rescued pets deserve,” the post from RPM reads.
