Thank you for your valuable feedback. Happy to hear your thoughts. It is always interesting to see what our travelers think of our service. Due to New Year market, streets were full of crowd. This situation is out of our control. Apart from this issue, we hope you had a good time. Best Regards

Christmas Lights Tour

I would not recommend this over-priced tour. After contacting Golden Tours about sitting on the top of this vintage vehicle I was told "first come, first served". My husband & I arrived at the meeting-point in plenty of time & sat up top, only to be told by the guide that we would be swopping seats with the people downstairs & inside, half-way round the trip. On moving downstairs, we then asked if we could go back up....they said they could squeeze 2 more upstairs but then informed us they were not prepared to stop the horses. There were no stops for photos as advertised & we didn't see the lights of Piccadilly or Regent Street etc. The trip did not last the full 45 minutes as advertised. Will not be recommending this to family or friends & will think twice about booking with Golden Tours again.

Thank you for taking the time to review your Horse Drawn Tour of London Christmas Lights. We are sorry to read that you were not fully satisfied with the tour. Unfortunately, we are not able to reserve seats on the carriage and when boarding it is seat choice is on a first come basis. Some guides are asking customers to swap in the middle of the tour, so everybody has the chance to sit upstairs. We are presently asking for this to take place on all our tours from now on. I am afraid that our website description does not say that you will be able to stop to take photos but the pace of this tour is certainly slow enough to still take good photos. It says that, because of the leisurely pace of the tour you are going to have plenty of time for photographs. You can find more information and the schedule of the route this takes on our web-site page. Please accept our sincere apologies if you think that the information was not clear enough. We appreciate your feedback and we hope we can welcome you again.

We decided to go with the Golden Tours Hop on Hop Off bus over the others that we researched because they offered the best discount when purchasing tickets online to go on essentially the exact same routes that the others do. It really is worth it, the entire trip without hopping off lasted just under 3 hours so there are a lot of stops you can make use of and they go to all of the major sites. The information is really good, lots of history and other little facts in a well narrated and even funny sound clips as you drive through. We sat on top, because lets face it that's the only way to do a hop on hop off if you are wanting to see the sights and take photo's, and it was a typical chilly London day so it was cold. Take a good jacket and a scarf with you for the trip and you'll be fine. I highly recommend using this company, they were great and the stops are very convenient.

Thank you for your comments on your recent Hop on, Hop off bus tour, we are delighted to read that you enjoyed your tour and found it really informative. Unfortunately with the good old English weather it is hard to predict what it will do each day, and we appreciate your thoughts advising future customers about the winter accessories that may be necessary! Thank you for choosing Golden Tours, we hope to be able to welcome you back in the future.

After booking this thinking the buses where going to run every 10 mins (like the other buses) it would be great to see London. Basically we saw a lot of the bus stops of London waiting for the bloody thing. Then when we got on the bus it got stuck in traffic which I do understand. The bus drivers where very helpful, friendly and informative which help us a lot. We also went to the shard thinking we booked the golden tours which means we get the discounted price when we got there, we didn't which was a shame really. Would deffinitly use another hop on off device as they seem to have buses everywhere.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We endeavour to run our service of every 30 minutes, unfortunately traffic conditions in London can cause delays and with events taking place throughout the city most weekends, this can also have an affect on the timings, however, our staff are able to inform of an approximate time of arrival, we are pleased to inform we do now have our Mobile App available to download where full details of the bus times, and routes are available. When buying attraction tickets from Golden Tours, we can offer some discounted rates where available, however, the tickets do need to be purchased from us, before visiting the attractions themselves. We are pleased that the drivers and staff you encountered during your tours, were helpful, friend;y and informative.

Though I know this can't be helped, but the tour bus moved so slowly due to the traffic that we ditched the tour. It took ages to get anywhere, the bus often at a stand still in traffic. We would not have been able to see anything or would have wasted a day trying if we were to stay on the bus. Not worth the money, just take to tube or public buses.

Our Hop on, Hop off bus product is a leisurely sightseeing tour and as such is never intended to replace public transport as the quickest, most efficient method of travelling between specific locations in London. Our brochure does indicate that our tour buses operate at a frequency of 20 to 30 minutes which can of course be affected by traffic conditions beyond our control. Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.

We have been on London tours before and whilst the attractions are obvious the experience is enhanced or spoiled by the courier. More often than not the courier tries to impress rather than inform and is usually nowhere near as informative - or funny- as they think they are. However, on this particular tour the courier, Mark, was spot on. Knowledgeable, down to earth, and calm. Even when we had to divert from the planned route due to a demonstration he was totally unfazed.

if you're wanting to do a tour of the christmas lights this year go with the original london bus company and not these people. Despite on a cold night being told to be there for 6.45, and the driver and commentary man getting on in plenty of time we were kept in the cold until 5 minutes before we went. Once we were off the people on the top deck (most of us) couldnt hear the commentary so someone told the driver, who informed us that if we wanted to hear his commentary we should 'go downstairs'. this would have meant that the majority wouldnt have had seats. the only christmas lights we saw were a few down regent street which were very disappointing, we didnt go past the natural history museums ice rink or drive down knightsbridge where they always put on a good display. the commentator was miserable, and just kept mentioning his wife in a derrogatory term so often that the only tip i wanted to leave him was the name of my divorce lawyer. his comments about the oxford street lights were 'these lights have been up around 4 years and was just rude about them too'. we seemed to spend most of our time rattling round deserted office buildings in the city, where he commentated on them and we couldnt see where he meant as it was dark and we hadnt got to the place yet or had already passed it. once on our way back to our getting off point he seemed to get a lot nicer and more animated once he was talking about the fact that we could tip him, but all in all it was not a festive or nice time so i really didnt feel inclined. if i ever want to go again i would certainly book with the original bus tours people who made it a fun festive experience but we thought these people might offer something different.

Thank you for braving the English winter and taking the time to add your review about our tour of London at night. To see London at night with all the streets and major attractions lit-up and decorated with Christmas lights can only be seen at winter so I'm sorry to read it wasn't what you expected. When you book on-line, on our web-site we do include a map of the route we take. We try to include a route that covers most of the popular attractions and some of the decorations that are on display around London but not via Kensington. We take all our customers feedback very seriously and will always try and investigate, when possible, in order to keep on improving our customer experiences and manage their expectations so thank you. For safety reasons we are not able to allow customers on the bus until the driver or guide are on duty and all the appropriate checks have been completed. Our guide did mention that some of the audio guides in the seats were not working that night for our foreign visitors but the speakers were working both up and downstairs in English. He wanted to apologise for his sense of humour though but was surprised because he's not married, though did mention HenryVIII and his wives. I understand the frustration and the motivation behind your comments for which I offer my sincere regrets and we hope you will allow us to show you our many other tours.

  • Dates & Prices

Long before the Golden Ring gained fame as one of Russia’s best multi-day tourist circuits, the small collection of cities northeast of Moscow played a vital role in shaping the country’s history. Its oldest settlements can be traced back to at least the 10th century. Our   Golden Ring  Russia tour will unfold the fascinating, deep-rooted history of the region and take you back to a simpler time of picturesque farms and villages, wooden houses and onion-domed cathedrals, all set against the enchanting backdrop of the Russian countryside.

Golden Ring Russia Tour Highlights

  • The village of Suzdal appears like a scene from a Russian storybook and has inspired artists and writers for centuries. Wander wide-eyed through quiet laneways and cobblestone plazas, passing horse-drawn buggies and medieval churches.
  • Yaroslavl was the first Christian city on the Volga River. Many of Russia’s greatest craftsmen, stonemasons, painters and sculptors came together to create this city of magnificent churches and monuments, dating back to the 12th century.
  • Rostov is the oldest town in the Golden Ring and the most architecturally impressive, rich in elegantly restored monuments dating from the 12th to the 17th century.
  • Sergiev Posad is one of the most important spiritual centres of the Orthodox Church, sometimes referred to as the ‘Russian Vatican’ for its magnificent white churches with their signature blue and gold cupolas.

Today, much of Russia’s Golden Ring region remains remarkably untouched by urbanisation. Surrounded by rolling hills and flowering meadows, these lands provide a glimpse of rural Russian life that has changed little for generations. Many of the Golden Ring’s villages were instrumental in the rise of the Orthodox church, as evidenced by the abundance of magnificent cathedral spires and domes.

Apart from their religious significance, these proud towns have staunchly preserved their time-honoured traditions, folk art and cuisine. UNESCO's World Heritage Committee has recognised the cultural value of some of the Golden Ring's most exceptional sites, including the historic centre of Yaroslavl and the white monuments of Vladimir and Suzdal.

This four-day Golden Ring Russia tour covers all the most rewarding gems of the Golden Ring. As you take in some of the most iconic images and artistic endeavours of Old Russia, your guide will enlighten you with stories and legends that will transport you to a time of knights and princes, heroes and villains, Tsars and fairy tales.

Day 1 vladimir and suzdal.

Your guide will pick you up at your hotel in Moscow. Board a car for a drive to Vladimir, which used to be one of the medieval capitals of Russia. During our guided sightseeing tour, we will visit the Cathedral of St Demetrius, Assumption Cathedral and the Golden Gates which featured on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

Next, we headed to Suzdal, the most magical of the Golden Ring towns. We will visit the old Kremlin, the Spass-Evfimievsky Monastery and the Cathedral of Transformation, along with other unique cultural and religious objects.

Day 2 Plyos and Kostroma

We start our day with a short drive to Plyos, a small and picturesque town. This is a place you will want to come back to as it has typical Russian views and an indescribable atmosphere of a 19th-century city.

After a glance tour in the area, we travel on to Kostroma, a historic city which sits on the banks of the Volga River. We will visit the Ipatievsky Monastery which is considered the place where the reign of the House of Romanov began. From Kostroma, we travel on to Yaroslavl for the night.

Day 3 Yaroslavl and Rostov

Today we discover Yaroslavl, the unofficial capital of the Golden Ring whose historical centre is protected by UNESCO. It is a town of trades and crafts, with the majority of churches leaving you impressed with its original beauty. Of special interest is the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviour, founded in the 12th century, and the majestic Church of Elijah the Prophet.

Next, we head to Rostov, where we visit the Kremlin, a pearl of Russian architecture of the 17th century, and Spaso-Yakovlevsky monastery.

Day 4 Peresalvl-Zalessky and Sergiev Posad

From Rostov, we travel on to Pereslavl-Zalessky, where we take a short sightseeing tour of Red Square and the ramparts. This town is famous for some unique museums like the Museum of Iron or Museum of Kettle.

Board a car for a drive to Sergiev Posad, known as "Russian Vatican" for its magnificent blue and golden cupolas scattered all around the town. Here we visit the Holy Trinity Lavra, one of Russia's most important religious centres founded in the mid-14th century, and enjoy a wonderful sightseeing tour of the city. Closer to the evening, you will arrive back to Moscow.

Bread and bagels at The Works Cafe in downtown Portland. Photo by Aimsel Ponti

From New York-style boiled bagels to Montreal-inspired wood-fired ones, there’s lots of great bagels in southern Maine and several shops have the accolades to back that up.

In 2023, Bon Appetit named bagels from Rose Foods and Rover Bagel among the best in the country.

Two years before that,  Food & Wine Magazine put Rover, Forage and Scratch Baking Co. on its list of best bagels in the U.S.

Whether you like yours toasted with cream cheese or as the bread for your breakfast sandwich, you can find plenty of styles and flavors from Biddeford to Brunswick.

BEACH BAGELS

The offerings at Beach Bagels include a French toast and marble bagel, and the cream cheese menu comprises spreads like strawberry, olive and honey walnut. Along with breakfast sandwiches, Beach Bagels has hearty breakfast options like omelets and pancakes. Best of all, you’re steps away from a beach stroll. Just don’t let the seagulls steal your bagel. Dutchman’s opened in 2022 as a pop-up housed at Nomad pizza in Brunswick’s Fort Andross building. It’s since become a permanent fixture there and uses the pizzeria’s wood-fired ovens to bake its bagels. The hand-shaped, honey-boiled bagels come in plain, roasted garlic, poppy and a bagel-of-the-day flavor.

FORAGE MARKET

Making bagels at Forage Market involves a two-day aging process. The bagels are naturally leavened with wild yeast starter and baked next to a hardwood fire. There are usually five flavors available, including sesame and garlic. Breakfast sandwiches (including vegan options) are available. Forage also has a location in Lewiston. Advertisement

MISTER BAGEL

There are 10 or so Mister Bagel locations in Maine, including South Portland and Falmouth. It all began with the Portland location, which was the first bagel shop to open in Maine. The late Rick Hartglass started Mister Bagel in 1977, and it is still a family business. Music fans will appreciate the breakfast sandwich menu, which includes The David Bowie (bacon, egg and American cheese), the Jimmy Buffett (egg with roast beef and cheddar) and The Lady Gaga (avocado, salt and pepper, with or without egg).

WHEN: 6:30 a.m. to noon Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday WHERE: 599 Forest Ave., Portland. misterbagelforestave.com ______________

At Rose Foods, the menu varies depending on the day, but there are usually six to eight flavors available. For example, should you pop in on a Friday, you’ll find a poppy and onion bialy (a cousin of the bagel that is not boiled). Rose Foods also makes a number of bagel sandwiches, including the Classic Nova with Nova lox and the Classic Whitefish. Advertisement

SCRATCH BAKING CO.

You haven’t lived until you’ve experienced the line of devoted fans waiting for Scratch Baking Co. to open, especially on weekend mornings. Along with the popular Maine sea salt, plain and other everyday flavors, Scratch has a daily special bagel. There’s honeyed rosemary on Wednesday and jalapeno cheddar on Thursday. Scratch is also famous, at least to locals, for its P-Cheese spread. It’s a pimento cheese recipe made with cheddar, mayo, roasted red peppers and seasoning and was passed down to co-owner and head baker Allison Reid by her grandmother, Mern.

THE MAINE BAGEL

The Maine Bagel is a drive-thru with several breakfast and other kinds of sandwiches available. With a bagel list that features egg and bialy among the standards, the family-owned spot is the perfect place to stop on your way to Pine Point Beach. The Maine Bagel really shines with a dozen kinds of cream cheese spreads, including raisin-walnut, lox, strawberry, cranberry-nut and bacon-chive.

THE WORKS CAFE

The Works Cafe is an institution on the edge of the Portland’s Old Port. It opened in 1990 as Bagel Works before it changed its name in 2002. The original shop in this regional chain opened in Manchester, Vermont, in 1988, and there are 11 locations around New England, though just the one in Maine. Gone are the ’90s-era banana-walnut bagels and cold pizza cream cheese, but The Works Cafe is still a reliable place to grab a salt, multigrain or cinnamon raisin bagel, among others. The menu also has bowls, sandwiches and smoothies.

WHEN: 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily WHERE: 15 Temple St., Portland. workscafe.com

Christmas Lights Tour

Great fun, laughs and history with comic tour guide extraordinaire. Enjoyed every minute. Highly recommend. Wrap up warm!

Worst excuse for a tour company. We had booked 2 x tours with this company. 1 x Christmas light tour and 1 x high tea tour. The Christmas light tour was average at best. The tea tour we didn’t get to go on because we were 5 minutes late as we were trying to find the idiotic meeting area that is not easy to find if you’re not from the area let alone the country and have no data service. The worst part of the experience was they didn’t offer any solution, no refund no we can move you to a different service. Just too bad so sad. And they counteract bad reviews by getting the tour guides to promote it on the tour so the guide gets incentives. asking people to leave good reviews is a sign your not doing something right and now you’re being even more shady.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback, and we are genuinely sorry to hear about your less-than-satisfactory experience with our tours. We regret that the Christmas Lights tour did not meet your expectations. Thousands of people thoroughly enjoy this tour each year, and we are saddened to hear that your experience differed. Regarding the Afternoon Tea tour, we understand the frustration caused by not being able to locate the departure point in time. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience. The Afternoon Tea bus must depart on time, and we regret any inconvenience caused by this policy. We are committed to addressing your concerns and finding a resolution. Kindly contact our customer service team at [email protected] with your booking reference so that we can discuss the matter further and work towards a solution. We value your feedback and look forward to hearing from you.

Pauly and Koli were experts in the whole area! It was a perfect trip!! Get the package with all entries included to not have to wait in any lines.

We really had a good time with Ana and Dan for our Windsor Castle, Oxford and Stonehenge Tour. Ana is an excellent tour guide. She has a good sense of humor and is very passionate! Dan is a good driver!!We feel very comfortable and safe. We will joint Golden Tour again in the future.

With limited time to do any sightseeing while I was in London I opted for this afternoon tea bus tour. Friendly staff and choice snacks (along with the tea of course!) made for a pleasant drive around London. It happened to be raining pretty heavily during the tour so visibility was not optimal. If there’s anything I’d suggest for a future upgrade it would be wipers for the main windscreen on the top deck.
