All was good, the only thing was it didn't run on time.

The staff and crew on board were excellent. Business class however, was very weird. I thought we would have individual pods, but the way it was set up was unexpected. Not very private and If you wanted to lay down, you had to have an entire bed made up for you by the crew, rather than how Delta one works where you could just lie down whenever you feel like it. It was a 16 hour flight. I chose not to have my bed made, and that turned out to be a good idea because everybody who had their bed made had to wait for the crew to roll up their mattresses. So strange!

Crew were pleasant, happy to be there and were a joy to be around. Entire operation was professional, well thought out and ran like a Swiss clock.

The recline on the seat in front of me came back so that I was staring at the top of the man’s head in front of me the whole trip. He refused to bring his seat back up twice every time he was instructed to do so and only relented when he had a tray of good in front of him. And then right back in my lap!!! Horrible man!! I complained to the staff multiple times, but no one would address the issue. Otherwise, it would have been a perfect flight.

There was a snafu with confirming seats at check which left us in limbo for the second leg of our trip. I believe the ANZ app is not well integrated with the systems at the terminal resulting in this disconcerting error.

The pilot tried to make up for lost time due to delays that were out of her control. She communicated the issues openly and clearly and made every effort to do what she could to alleviate issues.

2 of the 6 economy toilets were out of order. Drinks were not offered often enough - you have to order on-screen, which is often unavailable. Snacks and Milo ran out very early. Crew was fine but I think there was a sticking issue

Flight attendants are always pleasant and helpful. Pilot kept us updated.

Boarding instructions on one leg of my journey were not well communicated at the gate (Melbourne to Auckland)

The only thing that was less than excellent was the food server at dinner. (I had the chicken.) It wasn't that it was poorly heated or in difficult-to-open containers; it was just that it had a very peculiar taste. And I use that to describe not just the main course but the dessert as well. Very odd flavours for what seemed to be a mainstream item. I did like that the airline offered us a free glass of wine. The breakfast omelette wasn't bad, although it was quite bland.

The whole experience went very well except the rest rooms were a disaster

The entire flight was terrible. I recently had neurocervical surgery, and I needed a wheelchair to get to the gate. They were wonderful, truly. The flight staff was lovely, as well. Despite the need for assistance, I was put in the middle seat in the last row in front of the toilets. It was "policy" that I couldn't be moved. The pain I felt after the flight was astromnomical. The flight was so WARM, I was sweating, and the "air" did nothing to the stuffy feeling. The seats were uncomfortable, the plane itself was in bad/worn condition (although very clean - thanks to the staff) - and the flight was definitely rocky (not the pilot's fault, of course). All in all - one of the worst flights I've ever taken. The humans were wonderful!! You have a really great team. But your flight policies and your plane are absymal. For what you charge, you need to upgrade your plane and your policies.

Clean plane, relatively spacious in Main Cabin. One experience: I'm 79, with torn rotator cuff (R shoulder). I asked for help getting my carryon into the overhead bin and was told that the staff "does not help with this" (or some such phrase. On previous flights, help has been offered (and accepted). I prevailed on a fellow passenger for this. Also, why not board back to front?? Would this not help in the speed of boarding?

Following a marathon flight riddled by delays and changes from Santiago, Chile, my flight to Melbourne from Sydney was on schedule but I was transferred to the next flight. The reason by ticketing and the floor manager was I missed the entry to flight by one minute! That's right, the emphasised that if I was 1 minute earlier I would be on the flight. I asked what was the point them emphasising 1minute overdue and how that helped me or the situation. They didn't care at all. Replying that if it was one minute earlier they would've done something and smirking delivering the information. Australian's do call Australia home, Qantas calls Australian's suckers.

Rescheduled after ticket purchased and issued, not 2 or 3 times and not a fourth but by 5 times, by Qantas, that's right, 5 changes! Forcing an overnight stay in Chile and need for visa. Qantas can no longer provide basic services as a national or international service provider. Professionalism is extinct and the provider needs to be mentored and educated in perfecting who to operate as an airline. Qantas is the spirit of Australian dissatisfaction.

The flight got canceled multiple times and we had to drive their to reach midnight for our next morning interview. Poor and unriable experience. Now have to ask for a refund since we didn't need their rescheduled flight three days later.

No food, not even snacks on the 6hr flight from Newark to Vancouver! The movie collection made up for it though and they did come around with drinks twice. Announcements were to loud, too insistent and too often. The same messages can be made in a nice relaxed, yet efficient manner. There is no need to "talk down" as if on a mild power trip. My flight was cancelled. The flight they booked me on was delayed over 2 hours with mechanical problems so I missed my connection and they ran out of hotel rooms, so I had to book and pay for it on my own. I also had to pay for food out of pocket. It was a terrible experience.

Date was for a day earlier than I realized and no email or text up on check in. At least I could have made an effort to re-arrange my schedule to use the flight. 100% write off + cost of new ticket.

1. Long Beach Island, New Jersey: 2-Hour Drive

If Nantucket, Massachusetts is on your "must-see" list for a short getaway, you might consider hopping on an 80-minute flight rather than spending seven hours driving and ferrying to the island. No matter how you arrive, you're guaranteed to have a relaxing time on this slice of pure Americana.

Nantucket is brimming with activities — renting a bike and going for a slow pedal around town, taking in the Instagram-worthy shingled homes, cruising through the harbor, or casting a line on an organized fishing trip — to help you slow down and appreciate the little things. The world's your oyster in Nantucket (and the local oysters are all yours, too).

While Nantucket still has its small-town vibe, it's blossoming into a global destination. "There was a real energy in the town, and there was also a surprising sense of openness and accessibility," reported Akash Kapur for T+L . "While entry was, in the latter half of the last century, largely restricted to certain classes and races, Nantucket was now teeming with a diverse population."

11. Portland, Maine: 5-Hour Drive

Portland, Maine is a place where everyone can find a slice of vacation bliss. From above-average antique and vintage shops to a craft beer scene that must be sipped and savored to ample outdoor space for roaming on a warm day, the city is suitable for group and solo trips alike.

Erinne Magee, a lifelong Mainer and former Portland resident, reported on the best things to do in Portland for T+L . Her list includes visiting the Portland Observatory for 360-degree views of the city, taking a ferry to Peaks Island, and leisurely exploring the cobblestone streets of the Old Port neighborhood.

Seafood lovers shouldn't pass up the lobster dinner at Eventide . The raw bar and restaurant is well known for scrumptious New England bites — including the classic lobster roll.

After dinner, settle in for the night at The Press Hotel, Autograph Collection , whose historic downtown building once housed the Portland Press Herald . The hotel honors its history with a nostalgic newspaper theme throughout. "If you have a thing for old typewriters or simply want to visit a building that celebrates art in all forms, stop into The Press Hotel for a beverage and board game," reported Magee. "You can also explore the lower level museum featuring Maine artists or type your own special something on the typewriter in the lobby."

If you don't mind driving a bit, White Barn Inn, Auberge Resorts Collection , located about 40 minutes outside the city in Kennebunkport, will grant you an unforgettable stay. The drive will allow you to further explore Maine's stunning landscapes, and the hotel itself is a true gem, home to an award-winning restaurant.

12. Hudson Valley, New York: 2.5-Hour Drive

For a weekend trip that feels like it's just a stone's throw away, head up north to the Hudson Valley for a retreat filled with fine dining and wine. The Culinary Institute of America calls the Hudson Valley home — while in the area, pay a visit (it's been called one of the most beautiful campuses in the country), and explore the greater culinary scene, from Michelin-rated restaurants to casual bakeries and cafés. Dinner by acclaimed chef Jean-Georges at The Inn at Pound Ridge is not to be missed.

For a drink, embark on the Dutchess Wine Trail , which leads to world-class vineyards and delicious tasting rooms. When you're ready to retire for the night, head over to The Maker , a hotel that radiates class and culture.

13. Farmington, Pennsylvania: 6-Hour Drive

Farmington, Pennsylvania, is perhaps the quirkiest little gem on this list of weekend getaway destinations. It's a place to get out in nature and dive deep into the fun-loving culture.

During your stay in Farmington, visit nearby Laurel Caverns , which contains the state's largest cave. While the cave itself is fascinating, it's made even more so by the colorful lights installed inside. For design admirers, there are not one but two Frank Lloyd Wright homes nearby, including the famous Fallingwater home, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which you can visit on a group or personal tour.

Then, drive over to the ever-popular Nemacolin for chateau accommodations and experiences from axe throwing to cosmic bowling to acupuncture.

14. Cape May, New Jersey: 2.5-Hour Drive

There are family-friendly getaway spots, and then there's Cape May. Located at the southernmost tip of New Jersey, this stunning oceanfront community is at the top of just about every East Coast "best weekend getaway" list.

Rent a cruiser from Cape Island Bikes or take a trolley tour to see as much of the colorful town as possible, or go on an afternoon cruise to see Cape May from the water and maybe even spot a whale or two while you're out there. For dinner, reserve a table in advance at the Blue Pig Tavern , serving surf and turf classics with farm-fresh ingredients, and grab a couple of beers under string lights while listening to live music at Exit Zero Filling Station while you wait.

Dig a little deeper into the Americana vibe with an overnight at The Virginia Hotel & Cottages , a 24-room boutique hotel in a lovingly restored building constructed in 1879. It also has four cottages.

15. Bermuda: 2-Hour Flight

Plot twist: While Bermuda isn't exactly within driving distance, it's actually a shorter commute from NYC than many of the above destinations. A two-hour flight will land you in a subtropical paradise. In fact, travel journalist Alison Fox reported for T+L that Bermuda is cheaper and faster from NYC than the Hamptons: "The affordable direct flights — including the brand-new JetBlue one from LGA — and the easy-to-use bus system to help travelers get around definitely make Bermuda a compelling alternative to domestic travel this summer."

On the main island, bask in the sun, swim in the crystalline sea, drink rum swizzles at The Swizzle Inn , make your own scent at the Lili Bermuda Perfumery , visit natural wonders like The Blue Hole Park, and finish off the five-star visit with a stay at a five-star hotel. Rosewood Bermuda is set on a sprawling, private stretch of pink sand beach, the perfect spot to be marooned for a long weekend.

16. Lake Placid, New York: 5-Hour Drive

Lake Placid is another farther-flung location, but it’s well worth the journey if you want to enjoy a year-round outdoor destination. In the spring, summer, and fall, visitors will be delighted to find a dazzling array of outdoor activities, from hiking through  High Falls Gorge , a 22-acre nature park boasting four waterfalls, to taking a dip in the 128-acre Mirror Lake . 

Of course, this place is also a winter paradise – famed for hosting the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. Powder hounds can get their adrenaline rush on the slopes of  Whiteface Mountain , which offers 22 miles of terrain for skiing and snowboarding. 

Start at least one day with a hearty plate of eggs, a breakfast sandwich, or the decadent French toast fondue from  The Breakfast Club, Etc . And for later-in-the-day fare, look no further than  Smoke Signals , a BBQ joint with finger-licking brisket, ribs, and pulled pork.

Check into the  The Lake Placid Stagecoach Inn , a delightful boutique inn housed in a building from the 1700s that still boasts plenty of historical charm. 

17. The Poconos, Pennsylvania: 2-Hour Drive

The Pocono Mountains are another delightful outdoorsy destination prime for getting out of the city. Come here for a little family fun like visiting  Camelback Mountain , a massive adventure park that will leave kids and kids at heart smiling from ear to ear. There’s also the  Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway , which will zip you through the stunning local scenery, and  miles upon miles of hiking  through old-growth forests in the Poconos trail system. 

Remember, The Poconos cover about 2,400 square miles, so plan your dining according to the area you want to visit. A couple of not-to-miss spots in the region include Wilkes-Barre's  Cork Bar and Restaurant , serving seafood with an Italian twist (think roasted red pepper gnocchi shrimp and shrimp and crab bolognese), along with  Native  in Honesdale, an upscale eatery focusing on dishes made from locally sourced produce. 

Lay your head at any number of area hotels. Among the best are  Cove Haven Resort , a kitschy, old-school, couples-only hotel famed for its heart-shaped tubs, and  Woodloch Resort , a family-friendly resort where all ages can have fun in the great outdoors. 

18. Washington, Connecticut: 2-Hour Drive

Find rural bliss just two hours outside the city with a visit to Washington, Connecticut, where verdant landscapes are abundant but so too are the cultural attractions. Dive deep into the region at the  Institute For American Indian Studies , which traces the lives of Indigenous peoples back more than 10,000 years. Get your fill of fresh air at the  Hollister House Garden , a massive green space open in the spring and summer to showcase the local blooms, and get a taste of something locally brewed at  Hopkins Vineyard , a heritage farm that produces award-winning wines. 

Then, dig into more local favorites at The 202 Tavern , serving classic American food made by local purveyors, and  G.W. Tavern , whose menu features comforting classics like French onion soup and chicken wings. 

The area may not have a lot of accommodations, but what it lacks in quantity, it makes up for with pure quality. The elegant  Mayflower Inn & Spa, Auberge Resorts Collection will leave you totally renewed thanks to its inviting and cozy guest rooms and its in-depth wellness programming, including traditional spa services and expert-led health coaching. 

19. North Fork, New York: 2-Hour Drive

Escape to the North Fork, New York whenever you need a Long Island getaway without all the pomp and circumstance. Just two hours from the city (traffic permitting), this is the spot to be for a beach day, a great glass of wine, and a little farm-style fun. You really can’t go wrong at any of its beaches, but great options include  Wildwood State Park , which also includes a 600-acre forest, and  Orient Beach State Park at the end of North Fork.

According to Hannah Walhout, a former senior editor at T+L, "This part of Long Island was always a sleepy place — worlds away from the big-money scene of the nearby Hamptons. But these days, more and more city dwellers are making the trek, drawn by the peninsula’s rolling coastline, rambling vineyards, and hyper-local gastronomy."

After basking in the sun, head to the waterfront  Kontokosta Winery to enjoy panoramic views of Long Island Sound with your vino. Don't leave without stopping by  8 Hands Farm  for farm store goodies to take back home. For more food,  The Halyard  has locally sourced produce and fresh-caught fish, and  Bruce & Son  is beloved for its all-day brunch.

A woman from the US has been left stunned at the differences between Australian and US supermarkets.

Tiffany Chen  went to Woolworths, her first time at an Australian supermarket, and she said there were some things that were “shocking” to her as a woman from the United States.

First up, she was in the biscuit aisle and was stunned to see six types of TimTams, including original, white chocolate and chewy caramel.

“I’ve only ever seen one,” she revealed, before being surprised at the different sizes and varieties of Vegemite.

“They also have gluten free and less salt,” she said.

Tiffany was also stunned that there was no kangaroo meat at the supermarket and that eggs weren’t refrigerated like they are back in the United States.

Tiffany then took aim at Kraft’s boxed Easy Mac and said it was the first time she’d seen mac and cheese she “didn’t want to eat.”

She was also surprised that Cheetos came in ball form and questioned what brands such as Twisties, Smith’s and Cheezels were.

Tiffany, who is from California, was also surprised at the size of Australia’s avocados and bananas, saying the latter was the “biggest she’d ever seen.”

The word capsicum, which Americans usually refer to as bell peppers, also threw her off.

Aussies were quick to lay some hard truths on Tiffany, with one saying; “It’s as if you’re not in America”.

Others explained that eggs don’t need to be refrigerated Down Under as the salmonella bacteria that can contaminate eggs inside the bird isn’t present in Aussie eggs.

“Who’s going to tell them there’s more than six TimTam flavours,” one added.

One said: “Trust me that is the best mac and cheese you’ll ever eat.”

How to visit Australia without flying: Holland America launches new Grand Voyage

The long-haul flight can be enough to keep some U.S. travelers from visiting Australia . But a new Holland America Line itinerary will offer an alternate route.

The cruise line’s Grand Australia and New Zealand voyage will sail round-trip from San Diego, California in 2026, taking guests down under and back over 93 days.

"Our Grand Voyages are renowned for connecting guests with the world's most fascinating places while sailing roundtrip from the United States," Beth Bodensteiner, the line’s chief commercial officer, said in a news release . "Our team crafted this itinerary to show guests the parts of Australia and New Zealand they expect to visit, but also included frequently asked for, but rarely visited, ports throughout Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands."

When is Holland America’s Grand Australia and New Zealand voyage?

The cruise will depart on Jan. 4, 2026 aboard the line’s 1,432-guest Zaandam ship.

Where will the cruise sail?

The ship will visit 44 ports in 10 countries. Passengers will make their way to Hawaii first before heading to the South Pacific. The ship will then visit Australia – almost circling the country – and New Zealand, followed by Tonga and French Polynesia on the way back to San Diego.

The itinerary features two days of scenic cruising at the Great Barrier Reef and four late-night departures in Adelaide, Australia and the French Polynesian islands of Moorea, Raiatea and Huahine. Guests will also stay overnight in six ports, including Honolulu, Sydney and Auckland, giving them ample time to explore.

How much does the cruise cost?

The cruise currently starts at $17,699 per person based on double occupancy, according to Holland America’s website . Travelers who book by June 16, 2025 can get perks like a Surf Wi-Fi package, airport transfers in San Diego, a 3% pay-in-full discount and more thrown in (though they vary by stateroom category).

Newcastle’s post-season trip to Australia ‘not ideal’ for England Euro 2024 preparation – Kieran Trippier

Kieran Trippier has admitted that Newcastle United ’s post-season trip to Australia is “not ideal” preparation ahead of England ’s participation at this summer’s European Championship .

Trippier, 33, and his Newcastle team-mates will head to Australia immediately after their final Premier League fixture away to Brentford on Sunday.

They play Tottenham Hotspur at Melbourne Cricket Ground next Wednesday and an A-League All Star side at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium two days later.

In football terms, there is little logic in Newcastle traveling so far for friendly fixtures after a draining season which has been scarred by injuries.

As head coach Eddie Howe has already said: “Being honest, in my position, this is something from a physical perspective after a long season that we probably wouldn’t want to do.”

Yet Newcastle, who were unable to sign anybody in January because of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR), view their brief stay in Australia as an opportunity to boost their branding and, in time, their marketing and commercial income.

The concern for Trippier and his fellow international players is that it leaves little time for rest and recovery ahead of the European Championship. England also have friendly fixtures against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 3 and Iceland on June 7.

One of those nights threatens to become one of those seasons for Newcastle

“My expression says it all!” Trippier said with a wry smile. “It’s not ideal because it’s a tournament year. I understand why the club are doing it. I’ve done it at Tottenham (Hotspur) and (Atletico) Madrid but from my own experience of it – in a tournament year it’s not ideal.

“But we’re players, we’ve got to do what’s right for the club, for the club to move forward. When we’re there it’ll be good, we’ll embrace it and experience it. Hopefully it goes smoothly.

“Tottenham are doing it. But it’s one of those where you have just got to get on with it. But of course for me as a player it’s not really ideal. It’s not like it’s Benidorm round the corner, it’s 25 hours away. There’s no excuses or anything, I understand why the club are doing it and we’ve just got to get on with it.”

Trippier, who has been suffering from a calf injury, made his first start for Newcastle since early March during their 3-2 defeat at Manchester United . He is not concerned, however, that his absence might jeopardise his involvement in the Euros.

“I’m good. The medical team at England are always in contact with Newcastle’s team, not just about me, about other players as well,” the 33-year-old said prior to the game at Old Trafford. “I’m fit. England know that.”

England kick-off their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia on June 16.

Head coach Gareth Southgate will name his preliminary squad for the tournament on May 21.

Outfits 'Bridgerton' star Nicola Coughlan has worn this year, ranked

Nicola Coughlan might just be the most fashionable member of the "Bridgerton" cast .

Since the start of the year, the 37-year-old actor has been attending movie premieres, red-carpet events, and fashion shows in standout looks. She's worn colorful minidresses, an assortment of edgy ensembles, and some ball gowns.

But she's also sported a few outfits that could have been better.

Here's a look at her biggest style moments this year, ranked from worst to best.

The blazer dress Nicola Coughlan wore for an April TV appearance was missing something.

She arrived at the "Watch What Happens Live" set wearing the long-sleeved turquoise piece with black tights and pointed pumps.

Her outfit also included a thin fabric belt tied messily around her waist.

Though the blazer's vibrant color worked on Coughlan, her outfit could have benefited from sharper tailoring and different accessories — maybe a sparkling brooch or a fun handbag.

Her white Versace ensemble, which she wore to a "Bridgerton" event in May, washed her out.

Coughlan looked like a modern-day version of Penelope Featherington in her expensive outfit, which included a $1,550 silk blouse underneath a $1,990 wool shift dress.

And when accessorized with a $325 headband and a small $1,995 purse, the outfit became even more feminine and fun.

But the white and cream shades of the above pieces were almost too light. The same outfit in a different color — maybe all black or lavender — would have worked better.

The little black dress Coughlan donned at a Christian Louboutin show in March was cute but forgettable.

She attended the runway event wearing a $2,725 Vivienne Westwood design. It had a scooped neckline embellished with a bow, a knee-length skirt, and loose long sleeves.

Coughlan also wore rhinestone-studded Louboutin sandals that cost $1,795 and carried a $3,290 matching purse.

The outfit was great for a night out, especially when paired with the red lipstick she wore.

But when compared to the more fashion-forward looks Coughlan has worn this year, it doesn't ultimately stand out.

A vibrant red outfit she sported in February was almost perfect.

Coughlan attended a "Bridgerton" event in London that month wearing a $2,700 Stella McCartney blazer as a dress and the designer's $895 fuzzy, vegan heels.

The two pieces worked great together, and red is undoubtedly Coughlan's color.

Unfortunately, her dress was almost too oversized, with sleeves that extended past her hands. If they had been tailored shorter, her outfit would have been close to perfect.

The black blazer dress she wore a few days later worked better.

At a party hosted by British Vogue and Tiffany & Co., Coughlan wore a Stella McCartney blazer dress with a neckline that nearly reached her navel.

But rather than wearing the garment alone, the actor paired it with a Styland mesh blouse, semi-sheer tights, and black sandals.

The outfit was sharp and chic and worked perfectly for an evening party.

Coughlan showed the power of textured fabrics and good trousers in March.

For a British Vogue event in London, Coughlan wore two black pieces from Styland: a $3,207 strapless top covered in Ostrich feathers and $203 satin pants with pleats.

The lines of the latter piece made Coughlan look much taller than she is, and the feathered top was the perfect piece to contrast the silky texture of her pants.

The actor only needed a trench coat to make a fashion statement at a London movie premiere.

While on the "Renegade Nell" carpet, Coughlan was photographed wearing a coat-style dress in an off-green shade.

It had thick shoulder pads, a deep neckline, and a slit in the middle of its skirt that revealed her platform heels. She also wore two black belts wrapped around her waist.

The outfit was simple but effective and suited Coughlan's tiny frame. And though she carried a clear umbrella to combat London's rainy weather, it complemented her dress perfectly as an accessory.

In mid-March, Coughlan experimented with old Hollywood glamour — and it paid off.

She attended an event for her series "Big Mood" in a knee-length black dress with ruched fabric and short puffy sleeves draped beneath her shoulders.

The elegant dress also had a scooped neckline with two sparkling cups poking out of it, adding extra glamour to the piece.

The dress was styled sharply on Coughlan with black tights, pointed pumps, and an updo hairstyle that kept all eyes on her outfit.

The corseted look she wore to another "Big Mood" event was fashion-forward.

She walked the event's carpet in a black Roland Mouret jacket dress and a leather corset designed by Misho. Together, the two pieces would have worked on any New York Fashion Week runway.

But Coughlan really nailed the look with her accessories and makeup. She wore various metallic rings, gold statement earrings, and burgundy lipstick.

Coughlan could have been mistaken for a princess at Erdem's February fashion show.

She wore a sleeveless maroon gown from the fashion house decorated with sparkling floral appliqué. It also had a deep scooped neckline, a satin bodice, and an ankle-length skirt.

Coughlan would have looked stunning if she wore the dress with no accessories. But instead, she made the gown into a dramatic fashion statement by wearing gloves that ballooned above her elbows.

It turned out to be one of her best fashion moments of the year so far.

In true "Bridgerton" fashion, Coughlan wore a sparkling ball gown during a recent trip to Australia.

Richard Quinn custom-made her black dress with off-the-shoulder sleeves, a U-shaped neckline, and a tulle pleated skirt.

Its full silhouette nodded to the regency era of "Bridgerton," and its sparkling details were ideal for this season's leading actor.

Coughlan wore the dress with black sandals and minimal jewelry.
