  10:00 A.M – Splendid Tour of  Taj Mahal: Our first destination in Agra is none other than the splendid Taj Mahal, the Symbol of Love, and the Seventh Wonder of the World. Built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife MumtajMahal, TajMahal stands proudly on the banks of river Yamuna, attracting millions of tourists every single year.

The story behind Taj is – Mumtaj Mahal died while giving birth to her 14th child. Shah Jahan, who was passionate about his wife, decided to build something equally beautiful as his wife. So he employed 25,000 people for straight 22 years to build this majestic monument. TajMahal is called the Symbol of Love due to a reason – it reflects the true love of a husband for his wife.

Spend some time at this place appreciating the beauty of the monument and the love of the emperor before heading towards our next destination, the Agra Fort.

  12:30 P.M – Tour of Agra Fort: A massive red fort and the pride of the Mughal Empire, Agra Fort has remained one of the most powerful forts in India. It was sometimes the capital of the Mughal Empire and has also served as the royal residence. Today, it serves as a royal museum showcasing innumerable belongings of the erstwhile rulers.

One special thing to note about Agra Fort – it is the same place where Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb imprisoned his father Shah Jahan (the creator of TajMahal) till his last day.

  03:00 P.M–Agra to Fatehpur Sikri Drive : This magnificent fortified ghost city was the capital of the Mughal emperor Akbar between 1571 and 1585. It is 37 kms from Agra is built a city predominantly in Red Sandstone called Fatehpur Sikri.

The major attractions in the Fathepur Sikri are as following:-

• Buland Darwaza: It is a 54-meter high structure and was added to the complex as victory archeology. The visitors have to climb the giant steps to reach the Buland Darwaza.
• Jama Masjid:  The name suggests the Friday congregational mosque and was the first building to be built in the complex.
• Tomb of Salim Chisti : It is the tomb of Sufi Saint Salim Chisti. The tomb is covered in white marble and is situated within the Jama Masjid Courtyard. It is a single-story structure with the grave of the saint.
• Diwan-i-Am:  The hall of Public Audience where the ruler used to meet the general public.
• Diwan-i-Khas: The Hall of Private Audience where the ruler used to discuss confidential matters. It is famous for its central pillar with 36 hollow pendulous brackets that support a circular platform where the ruler used to stand.
• Ibadat Khana:  It was the house of worship or a meeting house.
• Anup Talao: a decorative pool with a central stage with four bridges. The pool is surrounded by Khwabgah, Panch Mahal, Diwan-i-Khas, and the Astrologer seat.
• Naubat Khana : The name means Drum house, where musicians used drums to announce the arrival of the emperor.
• Pachisi Court: A square marked as the present-day Ludo game where people served as the playing pieces.
• Panch Mahal:  A five-tiered structure with a single large-domed chhatri on the top.
• Birbal House:  It was the house of Akbar’s favorite minister Birbal.

Same Day Jaipur-Agra Tour With Fatehpur Sikri

On this Same day tour from Jaipur, we will visit the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort in Agra, and Fatehpur Sikri which is 1 hour west from Agra city. The best time to start this tour is from 6-7 am, & be back in Jaipur by 09 -10 pm.

So by 6-7 am , our driver will pick you from your hotel or any other sites in Jaipur (Airport, Railway Station, etc) & drive towards Agra which is a 3-4 hour drive. We will reach Agra city (Taj Mahal parking) by 10-11 am and you will explore:

• Taj Mahal, Mehtab Bagh, Agra Fort
• From 2-3 pm , you can plan your lunch anywhere in Agra and leave for Fatehpur Sikri by 3 or 3:30 pm as this is a minimum 1-hour drive from Agra city

Agra is the city of the Taj Mahal, the World Heritage Monument and one of the 8-wonders of the world and also the gateway to the legendary Braj region, the land of Lord Krishna.

Agra was the capital of Afghan King Sikandar Lodhi and later after in 1526 A.D., the Mughal Emperor Babar rendered it a unique character and beauty of its own. It witnessed the rise of the pomp and pageantry of three great Mughal monarchs – Emperor Akbar, Jahangir and ShahJahan – all of whom transform the land into one of the great centres of art, culture, learning and commerce.

Taj Mahal , located on the right bank of the river Yamuna was built in marble by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan (1628-1658), grandson of Akbar the great, in the memory of his queen Arjumand Bano Begum, entitled ‘Mumtaz Mahal’. The Taj Mahal is the mausoleum of both Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan. It is a tribute to the imagination of a great emperor who gave a symbol of eternal love to the world.

Masons, stonecutters, inlayers, carvers, painters, calligraphers, dome-builders and other artisans were requisitioned from the whole of the empire and also from Central Asia and Iran. While bricks for internal constructions were locally prepared, white marble for external use in veneering work was obtained from Makrana in Rajasthan. Semi-precious stones for inlay ornamentation were brought from distant regions of India, Ceylon and Afghanistan. Red sandstone of different tints was requisitioned from the neighbouring quarries of Sikri, Dholpur, etc. It took 17 years for the monument complex to be completed in 1648.

Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur Sikri, 38 km (27 miles) before Agra enroute is another World Heritage Site. Akbar (1556-1605), grandson of Babur, shifted his residence and court from Agra to Sikri, for a period of 13 years, from 1572 to 1585 to honour the Sufi Saint Sheikh Salim Chishti, who resided here (in a cavern on the ridge). Akbar revered him very much as the Saint had blessed him with a son who was named Salim in 1569.

All the palaces here were built of red sandstone in the trabeate beam-and-post order, and composed of pillars, ornamental arches, brackets-and-chhajjas, jharokhas, chhatris, chhaparkhats, and chaukhandis done in versatile Indo-Muslim composite style, which is a fusion of the composite cultures of indigenous and foreign origins.

You must visit Agra on your trip to India! Looking into some tours, I came across incredible Taj and immediately was contacted by the owner, Parth, on planning the details of my trip. Parth customized my trip to Agra to include entrance tickets to the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and to have lunch at the Courtyard Marriott. Incredible Taj put together a three day package for my mother and me. Parth paid attention to so many details of what we wanted and we couldn't be more pleased with what he arranged. Our driver, Pawan, was kind and informative. We had very long drives and he had no problem stopping when we needed a wash room or something to eat. Always ready to help. Abdul was our tour guide for Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. I don't know how he remembers so much information but he is a wealth of knowledge and enjoyed answering our questions. He was thoughtful about our comfort and taking our picture, he even let us get him in a photo. We shopped at Munshi Ganeshi Lal & Son where we saw, and bought, some amazing things. The detail of work for inlay of gems and shells into marble was most impressive. Their jewelery is high quality as is everything they sell. I could go on and on but I will end with this- Incredibles Taj is the place to go for any size tour. You will be with people that are welcoming and thoughtful. We instantly felt we could trust them and quickly felt we were with friends. We wish we could spend more time with them.
