Double Decker Buses Availability in Paris

Paris is a city that boasts some of the world’s most famous sights, and double-decker buses are an iconic way to see them. These buses aren’t like your typical public transport; they’re specifically designed for sightseeing, with their open-top design giving you an unobstructed view of Paris’ breathtaking landmarks.

One of the great things about these buses is that they operate on specific routes that cover all the major tourist attractions. This means you can hop on and off at various stops, taking your time to explore each place and then easily catch the next bus when you’re ready to move on.

What Routes Do They Cover?

The routes these buses cover are carefully planned to make sure you get to see all the key places without missing a thing. Whether you’re interested in history, art, or just strolling through beautiful streets, these buses have got you covered—they’ll take you through the heart of each district in Paris.

When compared to traditional forms of transportation like taxis or rental cars, these ubiquitous vehicles provide a unique panoramic experience.

Keep in mind that due to traffic conditions or special events, there might be occasional route changes. But not to worry—the drivers are always up-to-date and will let you know if any changes affect your journey while also pointing out notable buildings and landmarks along the way.

These tours usually have multiple language options available too, so you can listen to a guided tour as you ride.

Exploring Paris from atop one of these buses offers not just convenience and freedom but also an unparalleled introduction to the city’s rich history and culture.

Now that we’ve explored how convenient and enriching it can be to tour Paris aboard these buses, let’s turn our attention to the practical details of boarding and understanding their schedules.

Boarding and Schedule Information

When in Paris, you don’t have to worry about extensive walking or navigating public transportation to explore the city. Double-decker buses offer a convenient way to see the sights without hassle, with designated boarding points near popular tourist spots and major attractions. Plus, unlike regular buses, these eye-catching vehicles are hard to miss, especially with their bright colors and unique design.

The prospect of avoiding long walks and being able to quickly spot where to hop on and off makes it much simpler to explore the city. Imagine standing at the iconic Eiffel Tower and seeing a double-decker bus pull up—you can simply climb aboard and take a comfortable seat on the upper level for a panoramic view as you’re whisked away to your next destination. Not only does this make sightseeing easier, but it also saves you time and energy. After a day filled with adventure, leisurely hopping onto one of these buses can be a welcome relief from crowded subways or long walks.

The beauty of it is that these buses usually operate throughout the day, ready to ferry tourists around historic landmarks and bustling boulevards. The departure frequency is high, ensuring minimal waiting times between buses. This reliability means you can craft your itinerary at your convenience, hopping on and off at your own pace.

For instance, say you’re exploring the Louvre Museum in the morning and plan to head over to the Notre Dame Cathedral afterwards. You can consult the bus schedule to know when the next bus will arrive at your location, allowing you to seamlessly transition from one attraction to another without relying on taxis or figuring out complex subway routes. This ready accessibility forms an essential part of the touristic fabric of Paris. It provides solace during travel uncertainties because you’ll always know there’s another bus arriving soon if you happen to miss your intended ride. With such smooth operations, you have the freedom to savor every moment of your Parisian sojourn without being tied down by rigid schedules or grappling with unfamiliar public transportation systems.

Like any mode of exploring a city, using double-decker buses in Paris comes with its own set of advantages and drawbacks. Let’s evaluate them next.

Pros and Cons of Double Decker Buses in Paris

When deciding whether to hop on a double-decker bus for a city excursion, it’s essential to consider both the positives and drawbacks of this option. Let’s explore the benefits and limitations to help you make an informed decision when planning your sightseeing adventure in Paris.

Panoramic Views: The elevated vantage point from the open-top design delivers unobstructed views of Paris. From iconic landmarks to charming streets, tourists are treated to a breathtaking panorama, presenting ample opportunities for capturing stunning photographs and appreciating the city’s architectural wonders.

Imagine yourself gazing out at the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame Cathedral, or the Louvre Museum from an elevated perspective. The uninterrupted views afford a unique and captivating experience that is unparalleled by other forms of city tours.

Comprehensive Tours: Paris boasts an array of must-see attractions, and the predetermined routes of double-decker buses cover many of these iconic landmarks. This convenience allows visitors to effortlessly navigate through the city’s renowned destinations, offering a hassle-free way to absorb the highlights within a limited timeframe.

From historical monuments to cultural hotspots, these tours serve as comprehensive introductions to Paris, enabling travelers to grasp the essence of the city through its famed sites. The seamless access to major points of interest provides an efficient means for tourists to optimize their time and exploration in the French capital.

Onboard Commentary: Many double-decker buses provide multilingual audio guides that offer insightful commentary on Paris’s history, architecture, and culture. As passengers journey through the city, these enriching narratives complement the visual spectacle with educational insights that deepen their understanding and appreciation of Paris.

The narrations are crafted with engaging descriptions and anecdotes, revealing hidden stories behind notable landmarks and shedding light on lesser-known aspects of Parisian life. This informative dimension elevates the touring experience, providing context to the sights visible from atop the bus and enhancing tourists’ cultural immersion.

Weather Dependency: While the open-top design offers exceptional views, it also renders passengers susceptible to inclement weather. During rainy or windy conditions, travelers may encounter discomfort or reduced visibility, impacting their enjoyment of the tour.

Thus, it’s advisable for visitors to check weather forecasts before embarking on a double-decker bus tour. Being prepared with protective clothing or opting for lower seating during adverse weather can mitigate potential challenges associated with climate variations during the excursion.

Limited Seating: Particularly during peak tourist seasons, securing a seat on the upper deck of double-decker buses could be challenging due to high demand. The allure of panoramic vistas may lead to crowded conditions, potentially affecting passengers’ capacity to fully savor the tour experience.

Hotspots such as major landmarks or popular attractions might witness intense competition for seats, necessitating early arrival or flexible scheduling to increase the likelihood of securing preferred seating arrangements onboard. This consideration is crucial for individuals who prioritize optimal viewing positions during their city tour.

By weighing these prominent advantages and drawbacks, tourists can approach double-decker bus tours in Paris with a balanced understanding, ensuring a gratifying exploration while navigating through the multifaceted tapestry of one of Europe’s most enchanting cities.

As you prepare to embark on your budget-friendly exploration through Paris using double-decker buses, let’s examine how they stack up when it comes to cost efficiency in comparison to other modes of transportation in cosmopolitan settings.

Cost Efficiency of Double Decker Buses

When exploring a city as enchanting as Paris, every penny counts. The cost efficiency of double-decker buses becomes apparent when compared to guided tours or private transportation. The affordability of these buses opens up a whole new world for visitors who want to experience the magic of Paris without worrying about breaking the bank.

By purchasing a hop-on hop-off day pass, travelers gain access to a flexible mode of transportation that allows them to disembark at attractions that pique their interest and rejoin the tour at their own convenience, all without incurring additional costs. This unique feature caters to those who want to explore Paris at their own pace while sticking to a budget. This means not having to stand in line for tickets everywhere you go or have to worry about buying multiple tickets just to see the city.

For instance, imagine being able to stroll around the Eiffel Tower, hop back on the bus at no extra charge, and head over to the majestic Louvre Museum. This freedom to create your own itinerary ensures that you maximize your time and money without feeling restricted by traditional tour itineraries.

It’s worth noting that some bus operators even offer 24-hour, 48-hour, or even 72-hour passes for visitors on longer trips. These longer-duration passes provide even more value for money and allow tourists an extended period to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of Paris without worrying about transport expenses eating into their budget.

In conclusion, the cost-efficient nature of these buses truly opens up a world of possibilities for travelers eager to explore Paris at their own pace without straining their budgets.

Moving forward, let’s turn our attention to the various comforts and amenities that passengers can enjoy while aboard these iconic double-decker buses in Paris.

Passenger Comfort and Amenities

Imagine riding on a double-decker bus through the charming streets of Paris. The sun is shining, and you’re comfortably seated with a cool breeze blowing through your hair. That’s what it’s like when you’re on one of these buses, enjoying the sights without having to worry about a thing.

Comfort is not an afterthought on these buses—it’s a top priority. The seating is designed to make your ride as smooth as possible, and some even have shaded areas to protect you from direct sunlight. Whether you choose to sit upstairs for elevated views or downstairs for easy access, it’s all about making sure you’re comfortable throughout the ride.

Some services offer audio guides that provide interesting facts and stories about the various landmarks you’ll pass by. Imagine cruising by the Eiffel Tower while learning fascinating details about its construction or gliding past the Louvre Museum while understanding its rich history.

However, it’s important to consider that the level of comfort and amenities may vary depending on the specific service provider. For instance, different companies may offer varying types of seating, with some providing extra cushioning for a more lavish experience. Similarly, certain buses might come equipped with modern amenities such as Wi-Fi connectivity or USB charging ports, further enhancing passenger comfort during longer tours.

Travelers are bound to have diverse experiences based on the condition of the bus as aspects such as cleanliness, maintenance, and overall upkeep play pivotal roles in ensuring a pleasant and enjoyable journey. Let’s explore how these nuances contribute to passengers’ satisfaction and influence their perception of double-decker bus tours in Paris.

Evaluating the Double Decker Bus Experience in Paris

When it comes to exploring a city like Paris, being able to soak up all the sights in a limited amount of time is a top priority for many. The idea of leisurely hopping on and off a double-decker bus, taking in iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame Cathedral, and the Louvre, seems like an ideal way to see Paris up close. But what is it really like to experience this mode of transportation firsthand?

The panoramic views from the upper deck are undoubtedly stunning, offering passengers a bird’s eye perspective of Paris’s most famous attractions and landmarks. This vantage point provides an unmatched opportunity for photos and a unique way to appreciate the beautiful architecture and cityscape.

Moreover, the informative commentary provided during the journey serves not only to educate but also to enhance the overall tourist experience. It adds depth and context to the visuals, making each stop more than just a postcard picture or selfie spot. Overall, this blend of visual grandeur and auditory insights creates an immersive environment that enriches the traveler’s understanding of Paris.

For instance, being able to learn about the historical significance or architectural details of a monument while viewing it from above helps visitors form deeper connections with each location.

More than just catching glimpses from afar, the ability to hop on and off at various attractions enriches the experience further. It allows travelers to move at their own pace, catering to individual interests without feeling rushed. Whether it’s indulging in an extended visit at a particular site or simply taking in several landmarks in quick succession, the flexibility adds a sense of freedom and control to the exploration process. In many ways, it’s like having a personalized sightseeing tour tailored specifically to one’s interests and preferences—an exclusive journey through Paris’s charm.

Evaluating the double-decker bus experience offers insights into not just its convenience but also its capability to showcase Paris’s splendor comprehensively.

The double-decker bus in Paris isn’t merely a mode of transport; it’s an immersive journey that brings history, culture, and architectural wonders right to your seat. Now, why don’t you try out this perfect method of exploration? Check bus availability and reviews while planning your next trip.

Things to do

See paris aboard a gourmet double-decker bus.

Bustronome Paris is an innovative, double-decker gourmet restaurant that meanders through the streets of Paris , during lunch and dinnertime, allowing guests to see the city, and take in the sights, all while dining on a gourmet meal. It’s one of the best food-oriented things to do in Paris.

You might be wondering how it works. How do the waiters stay on their feet as the bus drives over cobblestone streets? How do the glasses stay put on the table. We can assure you that the whole experience has been designed with bumpy roads in mind.

Bustronome in Paris

Oh, and the waiters are highly skilled acrobats who can juggle plates, glasses, and tableware like pros. Not a single crumb gets spilled. Read on to learn their secrets.

Yes, we felt some bumps in the road as we set off from our meeting spot near the Arc de Triomphe, but after a few minutes, we were having such a good time looking at everything as we passed by that we forgot all about it and just enjoyed the ride.

» Check the Bustronome website for more details on dining times and schedule. Ticket prices vary as well.

The Bustronome Concept

You could ride the double-decker sightseeing bus in Paris and see the sights, but Bustronome adds a whole extra layer of fun and excitement to the typical sightseeing bus.

Not only do they serve you a gourmet lunch or dinner while driving through past the top sights, they also provide expert commentary on each stop in a very non-invasive way, so you can decide what type of experience you want.

A team of very experienced (and well-balanced) chefs and servers make the experience charming and pleasant from start to finish. After riding the bus with my sister, niece, and nephew, we all agreed it was a fantastic way to see all the sights while relaxing and enjoying some food, at the same time. We all agreed it was the best activity we did in Paris.

Dinner on a Double Decker Bus: The Gourmet Way to Experience London

You won’t be struggling to find ways to experience London’s exciting food scene when you’re in town for a visit. But there’s no better way to ...

What to Expect Onboard Bustronome

You’ll be given a time and location for your Bustronome departure. The buses assemble near the Arc de Triomphe, in a very visible spot so you can easily find them. You’ll want to board the bus about 15 minutes before departure, so you can be shown your table and sort your drinks.

bustronome seating

The bus fits up to 38 people in 2-4 person tables. A six-top can also be arranged for larger groups. Each table has a fantastic view out of the tall windows. Being on the second floor gives you the height advantage to see over cars and buildings for the best view as you drive along. Seriously, what restaurant offers this kind of view from your table? ↓↓

Eiffel Tower from Bustronome

I was a bit worried that the experience wouldn’t be interesting for my teenage niece and nephew, but they enjoyed it very much. The only thing I would mention is that the food is a bit high-brow for a picky eater.

My nephew agreed to try one bite of each dish, but he didn’t particularly enjoy any of the food. The tour might be a bit boring for younger children, but I think it all depends on your kids. We’ve been on the Bustronome in Paris and London and both times there were small children aboard who looked to be having a great time.

What’s the Food Like Onboard?

starter course bustronome

The dining experience varies depending on which meal you choose. Lunch is 4 courses and dinner is 6 courses (with or without wine pairings). Brunch is also served on Sundays and includes pastries, eggs, cheese, fruit, and coffee. We took the dinner service with wine pairings for my sister and I.

Upon boarding, we had a glass of Champagne and an hors d’oeuvre. Then the bus pulled out of its parking spot and we began the ride. This was when I learned the secret to how they keep the wine glasses from falling over. The table is expertly prepared with the means to keep everything in place.

Water and wine glasses slide into slots in the centerpiece. There were absolutely no slips or spills, despite the occasional bump in the ride. You wouldn’t know it by looking, but the silverware are all magnetized to the table, so they won’t slip around at all.

Dinner service aboard the bus

We didn’t really know what could be expected of a dinner served aboard a bus. I can honestly say I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meal. This isn’t your typical tourist attraction dinner. It lives up to its billing as a gourmet meal.

salmon course

It was more than enough food, and was nicely paired with both a white and red wine along the route. The timing of the courses deliberately matched the lulls in the tour guide, so you could listen to the program without interrupting your meal.

The Sightseeing Tour

views from the bustronome

The great part about Bustronome is how low-key they keep the tourist factor. Of course it’s a bus full of tourists hoping to catch glimpses of the magnificent sights of Paris, but we don’t need that fact broadcast to us. When you board the bus, there is no mass welcome, instruction or introduction to the tour.

The aim is for this to be an elegant and relaxing experience. The tour takes a back seat to the dining experience onboard. But they do offer an informative audio guide that you can listen to at your leisure during the ride. The menu doubles as a tour map.

Each person has an audio pen at their place setting that is used to deliver information. As you near a stop of interest, you just hover the little pen device over the dot on the map and listen to the audio track through the handheld device. The bus tours lasts for 1:45 for lunch and 2:45 for dinner.

Along the way, the bus stops at top spots, like Invalides, the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. You can take pretty good pictures from the window. They also stop for a time at the Eiffel Tower and let you get out of the bus to enjoy the twinkling lights of the Eiffel Tower (which only happens for a few minutes once per hour).

Eiffel Tower at night

Important Information

The bus parks at 2 avenue Kléber, right off the circle of the Arc de Triomphe. You’re asked to arrive 15 minutes before the departure time to get seated. As I already mentioned, the tour lasts 1:45 for lunch, 2:45 for dinner and 1:45 for brunch.

The upper level of the bus is surrounded by windows, all around and above. The windows are not open like a tour bus; it’s entirely enclosed so the tour happens regardless of the weather.  There is a bathroom on board.

If you’re looking for a fun and unique foodie activity to do in Paris, this is one of the best. It’s classy and even a little romantic. It’s not your typical tourist bus — it’s way better than that. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this tour. Even for locals, it’s a treat. Book here .

(Disclaimer: We were given  discounted tickets for Bustronome, but that in no way affects our opinions or views.)

Runaway military horses race through London, one seemingly covered in blood

LONDON — There was mayhem at rush hour in the British capital Wednesday when five elite military horses — one of them apparently covered in blood — broke loose and galloped riderless through miles of downtown London.

First responders raced to incidents 5 miles across the capital after the steeds from the Household Cavalry, the top regiment of the British Army, became spooked by construction work, the army said.

Four military riders were thrown from their mounts, which then charged past iconic landmarks and collided with vehicles, including a black London taxi and a double-decker tour bus, damaging its windshield.

“A number of personnel and horses have been injured and are receiving the appropriate medical attention,” the army said in a statement after the horses were finally contained.

The surreal image of saddled horses bolting through one of the largest cities in the world prompted Brits on social media to joke — perhaps nervously — that it may be a portent for some terrible looming event. The hashtag #Apocalypse briefly trended on X in the famously sardonic United Kingdom.

For hours it was unclear what led to the bizarre spectacle and whether it had been brought to an end, until details were slowly drip-fed by the army, police and ambulance services.

London horse incident

At around 8 a.m. (3 a.m. ET), a group of six riders and seven horses from the Life Guards, part of the Household Cavalry, were out on what's known as a "watering order." That is a training exercise designed to familiarize the animals with the varied and unpredictable sights and sounds of the bustling metropolis.

It's a necessary step for the animals, which as part of an elite mounted unit participate in the king’s birthday and other ceremonial parades enjoyed by London's thronging tourists.

Their riders' chest armor, swords and distinctive helmets, adorned with plumes of horses' hair, will be familiar to anyone who watches Britain’s opulent royal events in person or on TV.

However, the training exercise ran into trouble as the unit passed Wilton Crescent, a lavish, sweeping terrace built in the 1800s in the affluent Belgravia area of London. Nearby construction workers were using a conveyor belt to shift concrete, some of which fell off and hit the floor, according to the army.

That caused the horses to spook, with five of the seven animals bolting, the army said. As they rampaged the streets, the four horses that were mounted threw off their riders, with the other unmanned horse joining the posse, the army said.

London Horse Incident

First responders rushed to the scene and treated two people for injuries, the London Ambulance Service said. More paramedics were called to nearby Buckingham Palace Road, where another of the riders was thrown from a horse, it said. Crews there treated someone in the street behind a blue tarpaulin.

The horses galloped for miles. And another ambulance crew treated a horse-related injury at a busy junction not far from St. Paul's Cathedral, it said. In total, three riders were injured and taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the army.

It wasn't clear exactly when the horses were brought under control, but by 10:30 a.m. the army said the animals had been contained and returned to camp.

Officials said some of the horses had been injured, although it was not clear what caused the large patch of blood that appeared to be splashed across the chest and front legs of one of them. The BBC sent a reporter to Limehouse, an area in the east of the city where at least some of the animals were retrieved, where they photographed a large patch of blood and horse manure on the sidewalk.

A cab driver, identified only as Robbie, told the U.K. public broadcaster he had heard “galloping and looked behind and there were about three or four horses.”

“I looked in the rear mirror and saw them coming right up behind me,” he added, saying his main concern were the two passengers in the back of his cab. “Luckily they swerved towards the middle of the road and carried on, but they were going at some speed.”

He described one of the horses as being “covered in blood” and said that “it looked like it was injured quite badly.”

London horse incident

The City of London Police said in a statement that it was "pleased to confirm that all of the horses have been accounted for. We are continuing to liaise with the Army."

While the pandemonium was underway, the clock in the Elizabeth Tower — more commonly known as Big Ben, the city's most recognizable landmark and usually an icon of stability — stopped without explanation at 9 a.m.

Users on social media reflected that the dramatic scenes resembled a portent for some apocalyptic event, though it was unclear whether the horses' being caught would ward off such a scenario.

  • DebbJ 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Great way to get oriented to Moscow We started our Moscow experience with the hop on hop off. It was a great way to get orientated to the city. The additional optional tours were also good, we did the Metro tour which I highly recommend, we also paid for the Kremlin tour. The hop on hop off has three different lines all included. Only fault was the bus was sometimes full and you had to wait for the next one which was about 15 minutes (in the cold). Read more Written January 6, 2020

  • BeverleyT 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Boat trip - TERRIBLE We got on the bus, but couldn’t buy a 1 day ticket. They suggested we do the 1 hour boat trip and said they would drop us to the dock. 1) they dropped us in the wrong place 2) they were lost because of the marathon Then the boat, after we finally found it: 1) stinking fumes, actually gagging 2) no commentary, in fact, no interaction unless you begged 3) offered us 2 for 1 icecreams as they had melted and refrozen as the fridge gets turned off at night Honestly, we enjoyed the afternoon in the boat but spent all of it laughing at just how awful it was!!! The worst thing in Moscow! Read more Written August 18, 2019
  • niruDurbs 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Not the best value for the price The ticket is quite expensive and covers three different routes in a 24 hour period. The red route is quite exciting and takes about an hour. The bus comes every 10 to 15 minutes. However the other two routes take about two hours each and buses come every 30 to 40 minute period. If the bus is full then you have to wait at the stop for the next bus. So personally I feel that not much can be seen this way. I definitely was not impressed. However it must be noted that one can learn a lot about the history of Moscow Read more Written July 3, 2019

  • Rebecca J 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Boat element was excellent We purchased a ticket online for the boat and bus for 2 days. The boat element was wonderful, we saw some amazing parts of Moscow along the river side. The bus element was very disappointing as it only started at 10am and was finished by 6:30pm. It was extremely warm when we were there and it would have been great to do the tour in the cool of the day. There was also no air conditioning in the down stairs part of the bus. They also turned away passengers at one of the stops as the bus was full and there was not another bus for 40 minutes. Read more Written September 26, 2018

  • Peter F 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Two Routes There is a short red route which depending on the traffic takes about an hour. The route is generally around the Red Square area. The ear phones were small and sometimes the commentary did not link up with the sites you were seeing. The green bus takes you on a longer route and ours took two and a half hours due to the heavy traffic. I would not recommend this trip unless it is raining or you want to fill in time. The sights we saw were nothing outstanding with plenty of time at certain stops for photos. Also the driver stop for a bite to eat at one stop. Read more Written July 30, 2018

The bus didn't stop at many points. Were were unaware a couple of times at what point we were and missed them. Headphones and maps were provided. Would recommend one should check out the route map before going and decide which places to stop in advance, this way one can manage and enjoy the tour more and us it more effectively.! • WilliamDyer 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Poor service on boat and too many waiting times on buses For the price, you should expect at minimum English speaking tour guides with decent experience, but at least in my case that did not happen both in buses and boats. And in the boat even tough we were 90% English speaking tourist at least, the tour guide spoke 95% of the time in Russia, and only 3 sentences in English, I really counted how many times she spoke in English. And at the end she asks us if we have any questions? Of course I told her I couldn’t ask her anything since I didn’t understand 95% of what she was saying. The boat tour is not worth it, just take the bus that would be my advice. Second minus is the waiting times, in the boat they made us wait an hour before it departed, and in many stops with the buses waiting times of 20-30 minutes. I actually think I lost that day around 2 hours doing nothing. Be careful. Read more Written July 10, 2018
