If you visit Glasgow you need to take the Tennent's Brewery tour! Such a great history lesson on beer in Scotland. Our tour guide Laura was fantastic! She had a great sense of humor and poured a perfect pint!

I bought the tour as a Christmas present for my husband. We decided to book and use our voucher in the January. We found the entrance no problem and had such a warm welcome from staff. You enter via the shop which I was really impressed with, as it part museum part shop. Tony was our Tour Guide and he was just brilliant; full of energy and showed passion for Tennents. He really brought the tour alive, learning so much along the way. He made the tour so much fun while keeping us safe by following health and safety. So much so I opted for a pink novelty base ball hat, yes it's up-selling, but I didn't care, I liked it. and protected my head at the same time. It's also a nice memento of the day and I was glad to avoid the sexy blue hair nets as the alternatives. He was clear, explaining the process well and even let us try some of the barley. He took us on a journey from the ingredients, machinery to the bottling and the more important, for Scotland, in the can. Hehe!! The time just flew in and it was just in time for our beer flight. Ya get me?! Hehe!! Tony poured the perfect pint and talked us through the various beers for our flight in the premises own bar. The bar is also open to the public, which I hadn't realised. You'll definitely be guaranteed a perfect pint every time. I highly recommend this tour and Tony was just an excellent host and overall guide. Well done! I'm sure we will be back soon to pop into the shop and bar again, as we enjoyed the atmosphere very much.

This tour was great! It was only 10 pounds a person, which included a pint of your choice and 3 other tastings. Our tour guide was named Daniel, and he was very friendly and informative. What I wasn't prepared for was the choice of wearing a free hairnet, or buying a hat for 3.50 in order to go on the tour. You are brought into many different rooms and spaces within the brewery but I also found it strange that not a lot of the employees are in hats or hairnets. Any way, I saved myself the embarrassment and bought the hat. Which is now a pretty cool keepsake. It was quite a lengthy tour, we finished at around 2:30, which was 1.5 hours later. We also stayed to finish our pint in the lounge and had a fun time reading and seeing all of the old Tennents cans and memorabilia. You are required to do a lot of walking and there's a lot of stairs involved. They do warn you about this before starting the tour though. But would happily recommend it to anyone!

We did the Tennent's tour on a Friday night to start the weekend right. It used to be quite cheap but they upped the prices quite a bit. Student now pay £9 and adults £12.50, which in my opinion is quite a lot. They tell you about the history of the brewery, the buildings and of course about the beer brewing process. At the end you get to drink a pint in the bar, or downstairs where there's a foosball table(!), which is of course a great end to the tour! Overall, very lovely tour but sad that it's getting pricier!

tennents tour

This tour of the Tennent's Wellpark Brewery is an interesting behind the scenes trip around the factory with some liquid refreshment at the end. The tour begins in the 'brand room' - a sort of mini museum summarising the history and timeline of the Tennent's company (the brewery has been established here since 1740) and displaying various memorabilia and familiar advertising campaigns and also covering the brand's associations with Scottish music and sport. Then our group was escorted around the various parts of the factory and site to take in the sights, sounds and smells as the beer is produced, packaged and prepared for delivery. The tour concluded back in the brand room with generous samples of various brews from the Tennent's range. Worth the £7.50 admission charge if you're looking for something to do. Was most recently here with fellow Yelpers for a Glasgow music quiz and launch of the Walking Heads app of walking tours showcasing Glasgow's most notable music venues and musical heritage. This was held in the Molendinar Bar on the Wellpark Brewery site, which is styled as your ideal local with great tunes, banter, live music and free beer! A really fun night and great venue for this type of event.

This review is for the Master Brewer's tour and event. We started the tour in their visitor centre, where we learned about the history of Tennent's and how it all began, saw the collection of 'lager lovelies' cans, and examples of their past advertising campaigns. It's a beautifully branded and kitted out centre and shop, and you can buy various pieces of merchandise. They have an interactive display where you can do your own lager lovely pose and their plan is at some point they'll be able to produce a personalised can for you - it's all very nicely tongue in cheek. I would have stayed and nosed about a lot longer - I love all that kind of stuff, and I might go back to do just that. We continued the tour through their plant, covering areas such as the bottling hall, and canning line. It was fascinating! The strong branding continues throughout, with some incredible graffiti art, such as the giant vats that have been painted to look like cans of Tennent's. And then came the tasting. My word. We were lucky enough to be taken through a tasting of 12 Tennent's products by Keith, their Master Brewer, who pointed out what flavours and scents to look out for, and was generally excellent chat. He also passed around jars of various hops and malts as we tried the various beers, to help us identify the flavours. We started with some standard Tennent's - the stuff that you get in every pub in Glasgow. I'd never thought I liked it, but Keith explained that you shouldn't actually drink it ice cold straight from the tap - you should let it warm a little to let the flavours develop. I really enjoyed it! That was the first revelation of the night - that I like a pint of good old Tennent's. I don't think I was the only one in the group who at that point, saw Tennent's in a whole new light. We then worked our way through the following: Black T Caledonia Best (on draft) 1885 Lager (gluten free) Menabrea Tennent's Extra (9%) Scotch Ale Scottish Beer (aged with whisky oak) Tennent's Stout Heverlee Witte Hee Haw (alcohol free) Lemon T Quite a few of these are for the export market only, and you can't buy them here, so it was a real treat to be able to try them out. And a few of them had us wanting to move to Spain or Italy :-) It would be a perfect final touch if you were able to buy some of them at their visitor centre, or perhaps if they were offered exclusively to those who had done the tour. Second revelation of the night - my favourite was the Stout! It was rich, malty and chocolatey, and I absolutely loved it. It's Keith's favourite too, so I'm in good company. There were then some 'nibbles' put out. Super posh nibbles! I didn't try any but it looked like little chunks of brie, smoked meats, salmon, olives, and some fancy looking Scotch Pies. We were allowed to have another drink of whichever beer we fancied, or pour ourselves a pint from draft. Keith stayed about to chat and answer all of our questions - and we had a LOT of questions. At about 10 pm, we realised we really should let Keith and the other very nice chap get on with their evening, and weaved off down the road. A few of us were certainly left scratching our heads and wondering why we pay so much for craft beers, when there's such good quality being produced by Tennent's. A fantastic event, I would heartily recommend it.

The tour was very informative and entertaining too! The beer was great as well. I definitely recommend taking this brewery tour. Be sure to get your ticket early though because the tour after us was filled up the day before we went. My favourite part was seeing the canning process and drinking one of the best tasting pints I've had in a while.

Photo of matt h.

You get to see lots of the brewery and hear a bit about the history of the site and the beer. You also get a free pint and some free smaller tastes at the conclusion of the tour. The tour takes about an hour and costs ten pounds. Our guide was nice but not much was happening on the Sunday we toured the facility.

Photo of Austen M.

So first off it has to be said that I ain't really a fan of Tennants lager normally but I still was interested enough to go on the tour and hear the history of a long standing Glasgow business. The tour is not really big on wow. It's got some video history, you get shown around the different areas of production, packing, logistics, etc. It's not bad or boring, it's actually quite interesting, (If you like beer and history - which I do) but it's not very interactive or blingy. If you have been on the Heineken Amsterdam tour and then go on this you will know what I mean. Still for 7 quid you get a decent tour, an interesting history lesson, a pint of beer and 4 tasters of lesser know Tennants brands. I have spent far worse Sunday afternoons. Worth a look whether your a tourist or a local.

I saw the event for this listed and thought it sounded good, but didn't feel I was that beer savvy enough to really submit a good beer review for the chance to be selected for it, so I didn't put myself forward. I still couldn't tell you the difference between a beer, an ale, and a lager (sorry... :$). Luckily for me Lucy B had a spare place on offer and I was still free that evening so I jumped at it - thanks, Lucy! Thanks to Briony too for organising, it was great! We arrived and had the chance to look around the shop/history room before our tour guide gave us a talk on the timeline of the Tennent's Brewery development. There was quite a bit of info - as soon as there was mention of recipes on cans, and beer cake recipes, I got a bit preoccupied with thinking about cakes made with beer... We were given a blue hairnet to wear and went on our way on our walking tour around the building. The art work was very eye-catching, and we were told a lot of stats about the amount of beer they produce. I'm not very good at remembering stats without writing them down, but it was A LOT. Anyway, my rubbishness at that just means you'll need to take the tour yourself. ;) We learned about the beer companies who use their processing facilities - some provide the recipes (and staff?) and the beers are made there, and with some the beers are already produced elsewhere and brought to the Tennent's Brewery for bottling and distribution. Some companies we learned of were quite surprising! Unfortunately, there wasn't any activity on the machines as it was a Friday night. We also learned that back in the day workers were allowed to drink beer on their shifts! We had a look around the Tennent's Academy and there are loads of cooking classes on you can join which sound like great events for a night out with friends or work colleagues, e.g., Spanish cooking then down to Arta for some dancing! The beer tasting was really fun - the Master Brewer and his colleague done a fabulous job at explaining the process of making the beers, answering our questions, and we got to smell some of the grains used in processing, and have a go at pulling our own pint! Wonderfully multi-sensory. If they continue to allow groups as much time to stick around and drink Tennent's, and are fortunate enough to get more groups of people so interested in the production process, then you don't really need to go on elsewhere as it could be a good night out in itself. They also had some trays of light munchies available afterwards. (Nothing much looked vegan-friendly, but I fed back that some bags of nuts and crisps would be grand!). It's definitely a great promotional opportunity too to show people how tasty their beverage selection is in a time where craft beers are becoming more and more popular, and to encourage people to smell and feel the tastes of the individual ingredients in the drinks. Thanks to the brewery for the experience!

Theatres in Moscow

Cultural life of Moscow city is various and rich! Operas, ballets, symphonic concerts... Russian composers have created some of the most beautiful classical music. Russian classical music is very popular in Moscow. It is performed in many beautiful historical venues. Do not forget to include a visit to a concert hall in your itinerary when you are planning your stay in Moscow! And do it in advance.

There are almost no restrictions on dress code in Russian theatres. Visitors may wear jeans and sports shoes, they may have a backpack with them. Only shorts are not allowed.

A typical feature of Russian theatre – visitors are bringing a lot of flowers which they present to their favorite performers after the show.

Here are some practical advices where to go and how to buy tickets.

The Bolshoi Theatre

The Bolshoi Theatre is the oldest, the most famous and popular opera and ballet theatre in Russia. The word “Bolshoi” means “big” in Russian. You can buy a ticket online in advance, 2-3 months before the date of performance on the official website . Prices for famous ballets are high: 6-8 thousand rubles for a seat in stalls. Tickets to operas are cheaper: you can get a good seat for 4-5 thousand rubles. Tickets are cheaper for daytime performances and performances on the New Stage. The New Stage is situated in the light-green building to the left of the Bolshoi's main building. The quality of operas and ballets shown on the New Stage is excellent too. However, you should pay attention that many seats of the Bolshoi’s Old and New Stages have limited visibility . If you want to see the Bolshoi’s Old Stage but all tickets are sold out, you can order a tour of the theatre. You can book such a tour on the official website.

If you want, following Russian tradition, to give flowers to the performers at the end of the show, in the Bolshoi flowers should be presented via special staff who collects these flowers in advance.

In August the Bolshoi is closed.

The Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre

This theatre is noteworthy. On one hand, it offers brilliant classical opera and ballet performances. On the other hand, it is an experimental venue for modern artists. You can check the program and buy tickets online here http://stanmus.com/ . If you are opera lover, get a ticket to see superstar Hibla Gerzmava . The theatre has a very beautiful historic building and a stage with a good view from every seat. Tickets are twice cheaper than in the Bolshoi.

The Novaya Opera

“Novaya” means “New” in Russian. This opera house was founded in 1991 by a famous conductor Eugene Kolobov. Its repertoire has several directions: Russian and Western classics, original shows and divertissements, and operas of the 20th and 21st centuries. It is very popular with Muscovites for excellent quality of performances, a comfortable hall, a beautiful Art Nouveau building and a historic park Hermitage, which is situated right next to it. You can buy tickets online here http://www.novayaopera.ru/en .

Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center

The Opera Center has become one of the best theatrical venues in Moscow. It was founded in 2002 by great diva Galina Vishnevskaya. Nowadays its artistic director is Olga Rostropovich, daughter of Galina Vishnevskaya and her husband Mstislav Rostropovich, great cellist and conductor. Not only best young opera singers perform here, but also world music stars do; chamber and symphonic concerts, theatrical productions and musical festivals take place here. You can see what is on the program here http://opera-centre.ru/theatre . Unfortunately “booking tickets online” is available in Russian only. If you need help, you can contact us at and we can book a ticket for you.

Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and The Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory

These are two major concert halls for symphonic music in Moscow. Both feature excellent acoustics, impressive interior, various repertoire and best performers. You can check the program here http://meloman.ru/calendar/ . You need just to switch to English. Booking tickets online is available only for owners of Russian, Ukrainian and Belorussian phone numbers. If you need help, you can contact us and we can book a ticket for you.

Moscow International Performing Arts Center (MIPAC)

This modern and elegant concert hall houses performances of national and foreign symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, solo instrumentalists, opera singers, ballet dancers, theatre companies, jazz bands, variety and traditional ensembles. Actually, it has three concert halls placed on three different levels and having separate entrances. The President of MIPAC is People’s Artist of the USSR Vladimir Spivakov, conductor of “Virtuosy Moskvy” orchestra. You can see pictures of the concert halls here http://www.mmdm.ru/en/content/halls . The program is impressive in its variety but is not translated into English. You can contact us at and we can find a performance for you.
