It can depend on the volume of applications at the embassy/consulate, the number of entries, your previous travel history, and so on. As a result, you are advised to apply well in advance in order to avoid any complications.

Time taken for the processing of the e-visa is usually within just 48 hours. However, to account for any possible delays, the ministry asks that you must apply at least 2 days in advance.

The fees for the tourist permit is dependant on the number of entries and the foreign exchange rates. The fees for the e visa must be paid in USD. As a result, while making the payment, the amount deducted from your account will vary according to the exchange rates at the moment. For the sticker visa, you may also have to pay additional service charges and delivery charges (if applicable). As a result, ensure that you check the exact amount before starting the application.

Once you have made the application, it will be processed accordingly. Even if you have applied at the VAC, the application is forwarded to the embassy/consulate for the processing. The VAC has no influence regarding the processing. Once approved, you can collect the passport directly from the mission/VAC or you can have the VAC deliver it to you for an additional charge. The jurisdiction of the Turkish missions in India are as follows -

  • Turkish Embassy in New Delhi - If your state of residence* is Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal.

*   - State of residence refers to the state where you have been residing for the past 6 months.

If you have applied for the e visa, you will receive a link via your email, on approval. You may then download the permit through the link.

There are multiple ways in which you can check the status of your application depending upon your mode of application.

Embassy - If you have applied at the embassy/consulate, you can track your application status by clicking here and entering your reference number and passport number.

VAC - If you have applied at a VAC, you can check the status here . Alternately, you can call or email the VAC to know the status.

You can also contact the travel agency you have applied through, to check the status.

Once you receive your visa, you must keep in mind the following few points to ensure that you have a hassle-free journey -

Before you travel -

  • Note the validity and number of entries mentioned on your visa. You must not stay in the country beyond this period. You must also follow the entry type given.
  • Carry all your travel documents before you travel to the country.
  • For the Turkey e visa, carry the downloaded e visa as a softcopy or hardcopy.

At the border

  • You must show your passport with the visa to the immigration officer. Your entry stamp will be stamped on the passport.
  • You may be asked to show the copy of the other documents submitted as part of your application.
  • You may be asked about the basic details of your visit. Ensure that you answer honestly and without any hesitance.

When you enter Turkey

  • While you are on a tourist permit, you cannot take part in any work or business activities.
  • You are permitted to extend this visa if you have a good reason.
  • Carry a copy of your passport and visa while you are travelling within the country.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can i extend my turkey tourist visa.

You can extend the Turkish tourist permit in certain limited cases. If you have a proper reason to extend your permit, you will have to visit the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management or a Police station in Turkey and apply for the ‘short term residence permit’. If you are unable to get it extended, you must leave the country on expiry. The e-visas are non-extendible.

After Expiring My Turkey Tourist Visa, How Long Can I Stay?

Once you have expired your permit, there is no provision for a stay-back period. As a result, you are expected to leave the country upon expiry. Alternately, you may apply for the extension before your permit expires. However, if you do not receive the extension in time for your expiry date, you must leave immediately. Staying back in the country after expiry is considered as an offence and can attract hefty fines and even lead to deportation.

What is the Medical Test for Turkey Tourist permit?

As per the requirements, there is no medical test for the tourist permit. However, you are required to have medical travel insurance valid for Turkey. It is also suggested that you get a medical check-up done before travelling to a foreign nation, for your own safety.

Can I Convert My tourist visa for Turkey into a Work permit?

No, it is not possible to convert your tourist permit into a work permit. You are also not allowed to work in Turkey without a valid permit. If you require the work permit, you must return to your home country and apply for a new one.

How Much Bank Balance is Required to Get Turkey Tourist permit?

Normally, there is no fixed rule on the exact amount of funds required for the tourist application. As per the requirements, you must submit bank records that show that you have sufficient funds to support your entire stay duration. However, if you are applying for the e-visa, you are expected to have at least 50 $ for every day of your stay.

How many months before the trip should I apply for a Turkey Tourist permit?

Since it takes nearly 12 working days to process the sticker type of the tourist permit, you must apply for the permit at least 2 weeks in advance. However, as per the embassy recommendations, you are advised to apply nearly a month before your travel date. The e-visa application must be done at least 48 hours before your travel date.

For tourists wanting to visit the country a tourist visa is required. This is called the short-stay visa. With this visa you can stay up to 30 days in Turkey for tourism purposes. You cannot engage in any paid activities during the duration of your stay. There is an e-visa facility to obtain this visa.

An e-visa for Turkey can be applied for any time before traveling to Turkey. However, an e-visa application must be made online at least 48 hours before departure to Turkey.

New Schengen Visa Rules for Indian Visitors: Key Questions Answered

Peden Doma Bhutia , Skift

April 23rd, 2024 at 5:39 AM EDT

Destinations value Indian travelers, but lengthy visa processing times lasting months act as significant deterrents. The adoption of these new regulations by European authorities reflects a proactive effort to tackle these concerns, aiming to boost tourism flow.

Peden Doma Bhutia

The European Commission has introduced a new visa “cascade” regime for Indian nationals applying for Schengen visas in India. This regime looks to offer longer-term, multi-entry Schengen visas, based on the applicant’s travel history.

Indian travel agents had been complaining of Schengen visa delays as a major challenge to the summer travel rush from India.

  • How does one qualify for the longer duration visas?

The European Commission can issue a two-year multiple-entry visa after a traveler “has obtained and lawfully used two visas within the previous three years.” This demonstrates a positive travel history and compliance with previous visa regulations.

Subsequently, after granting the two-year visa, authorities may issue a five-year visa if the passport has has adequate validity remaining.

  • What benefits do holders of these extended visas enjoy?

During the validity period of these visas, holders can enjoy travel rights equivalent to visa-free nationals within the Schengen area, allowing for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

  • Which countries are part of the Schengen area?

The Schengen area comprises 29 European countries, including 25 European Union member states: Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland, and Sweden. Additionally, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland are also part of the Schengen area.

  • Are there any restrictions or conditions to these visas?

Schengen visas do not grant the right to work within the Schengen area and are for short stays only. Additionally, the visas are not purpose-bound, providing flexibility for travel within the specified period.

Industry Take

Skift also spoke to players in the Indian outbound travel industry to understand what has changed in the new Schengen visa rules.

  • How is this different from the earlier visas that Schengen countries offered? Don’t they already offer multi-entry visas with longer duration to Indians?

Mahendra Vakharia, managing director of Pathfinders Holidays, said there was no standard policy of Schengen states for issuing these long-term visas earlier. Switzerland, France, Netherlands, Italy and Spain usually issued long-term visa, but it was all subjective. “With this new policy it should be a standard rule now,” Vakharia said.

  • Travelers mainly complain of longer processing times, has that changed?

Here too, there is no standard processing time as it varies from country to country, according to Vakharia. “France and Spain have been processing visas within four days, and then there’s Croatia, which takes 60 days,” he said.

Processing time will not change as of now, it will take time for the visa rules to be enforced, said an industry source, while highlighting that the visa would be especially useful for corporate travelers.

What Promoted The Move?

Speaking on the possible motivations, Vakharia acknowledged various reasons, including administrative capacity constraints at embassies to cater to the huge inflow of applications.

“As there is an overwhelming demand from Indian travelers, the process of securing visa appointments has posed significant challenges , especially for travelers residing in cities lacking VFS Global centers,” he said.

The European Commission said in an statement that the decision reflects the EU-India Common Agenda on Migration and Mobility, aimed at fostering comprehensive cooperation on migration policy. Facilitating people-to-people contacts is a key aspect of this agenda, acknowledging India’s importance as an EU partner.

The decision also reflects a realization of the strong economic benefits derived through the spending power of Indian tourists. As Vakharia aptly puts it, “Why let go of the Golden Indian Goodie Bag?”

White House condemns college protesters occupying buildings as demonstrations continue

The eu’s new multiple entry visa scheme is making it easier for indians to travel to europe.

The EU has just made it easier for Indian nationals to travel to Europe.

An update to the Schengen visa rules announced last week opens up multiple entry trips for frequent travellers.

The so-called ‘cascade’ system enables Indian citizens who have used a short-stay Schengen visa twice within the last three years to apply for a two-year multiple entry visa.

This can be followed by a five-year visa, providing their passport has sufficient validity.

Why is the EU making travel easier for Indian nationals?

The new scheme aims to strengthen relations with India as an important partner for the EU, and to secure cooperation on migration policy between the two.

“Travel to Europe made easy!”, EU Ambassador to India Hervé Delphin wrote on X - formerly Twitter - when announcing the visa programme. “The EU takes another step towards enhancing people-to-people contact with India.”

The Schengen visa allows stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period across 29 European countries. A multiple entry visa, therefore, provides access to the Schengen area for up to 180 days in a year in total without the need to reapply for each visit.

How can Indian nationals get a visa to work in Europe?

The Schengen visa does not grant the right to work, however.

There are various routes to get a work permit in the EU. Some specialists may be eligible for a Blue Card , which allows highly-qualified non-EU citizens to live and work in any EU country - apart from Denmark and Ireland.

Individual EU countries also run their own non-EU work permit schemes, which are often adapted to meet shortages of skilled workers in certain fields.

Germany, for example, has made it easier this year for non-EU citizens to work in the country with reforms to its Skilled Immigration Act .

It removes some of the red tape associated with applying for a work permit and introduces a new ‘chancenkarte’ (opportunity card). The points-based system takes into account qualifications, professional experience, age, German language skills and ties to Germany such as family members in the country.

It particularly targets skilled craftspeople, electrical engineers, IT specialists, carers, nurses, catering and hospitality professionals.

Belgium, too, is seeking foreign workers with skills in specific fields.
