Breaking News!

 our player development outline.

outlaws travel team

We take an analytical approach to player development.  Our staff is continually researching, studying and talking to leaders in the field of advanced data collection with respect to hitting and pitching development.  With this continued learning, we also continue to invest in the latest technology to gather performance data to give our players clear and precise direction with respect to their individual training.  Lots of programs talk about player development being the ultimate focus. We have always preached this as well.  We however,  join forward thinking MLB and College Teams that have adopted Data Driven Development Programs for their players.  The data is used to develop plans for each individual player.  These plans are a combination of what we have been teaching for years, plus some new development and mechanics ideas that have been refined with the advent of the measurable metrics that are guiding todays elite players.  Below is a list of the tech we will be utilizing to aid in the development of our athletes

We will continue to educate ourselves to make sure we are on the cutting edge and are able to assist our players in the development and acquisition of elite baseball skills.

We are an travel baseball program. We have teams from 8U up through 17U. Our program is about taking dedicated athletes and teaching them the game of baseball. We pride ourselves on what we teach and how we teach it. The heart and soul of our program is our winter training. Each player will not only have over 31 hours of indoor winter team training, but will also have 5 hours of individual one on one lessons with Outlaws/C-Side's training staff. Our winter training starts in December and runs through the end of March.

Our indoor training is held at Chris Sidick’s  C-Side Sports  Training Facility located in North Strabane Township. C-Side is a 27,000 sq ft Baseball Taining Facility located near Canonsburg, PA. This facility is the most state of the art facility in the area.

What we teach

The practice program is designed to start with basic mechanics and through repetitive drills, build on the foundation each week.  Practices are designed to be energetic and fast paced.  We work from the ground up with all of our teams no matter what age group. . We will start with the most basic of skills and progress through more advanced throughout the winter workouts.

We have also adopted an analytical approach to what and how we teach as highlighted in the article above. We are using the same tools and the same methods as many major college and professional teams.

Where we go

We base each teams tournament schedule on what we think will both be challenging and rewarding depending on the talent level of the team. We will not load the schedule up with easy tournaments just to win trophies. There are many good tournaments local to the Pittsburgh area and in Eastern, Ohio. We also go places such as Cal Ripkens facility in Aberdeen, Marlayland, Sports at the Beach in Rehoboth, Delaware, and our 12U Teams go to Cooperstown Dreams Parks. Most of the other tournaments the we attend are typically no more than a 4 hour drive from Pittsburgh.

As stated above, the main goal of our program is for each player to develop advanced baseball skills

Our Program Includes

  • Winter Practice
  • Tournaments
  • Fundraising
  • Cpooperstown Dreams Park
  • Practice Facility
  • Outdoor Fields

We will provide your child with the necessary fundamental baseball and softball skills and situational knowledge to optimally further his/her ability. The game of baseball’s and softball's playbook is extensive, and there is a tremendous amount of attention placed upon the smallest details. The coaching staffs at each level will do their best to facilitate baseball and softball knowledge and continued growth. In addition to the coaches’ extensive knowledge and experience, they share another common thread; their love of working with and developing kids talent.

Our expectations are very high, as are our standards. We strive to have all players at their best, on & off the field, at all times. We also stress the importance of community service & participate in multiple programs throughout the year.  If you are aware of an organization in need of program helpers, please contact us at: [email protected]

Our Program

Program Includes:

· Training: We will establish all training techniques and strategies. Each team will practice at least twice a week.

· Outlaws baseball and softball may periodically bring in our specialized instructors to help the players develop at a higher level.

· Private lessons: Can be arranged with various instructors/coaches. Outlaw baseball/softball currently utilizes Don McDonald and Eric Beaulac.  It is always preferred that your child utilizes our outside instructors for private training. This allows for constant communication between instructors and team coaches.

· League Play: Baseball teams play in the Eastern New York Travel Baseball League (ENYTB).  Softball teams play in the Hudson Mohawk League.  Coaches will schedule games according to team preference. There is no set number of games a team will/will not play. Game play is used to reinforce practice and prepare for tournaments.

· Tournaments: We will play at least one tournament per year but may elect to play in additional tournaments.

Fall Ball: We offer Fall play. Again, this is at the discretion of the individual team coaches with regards to length of season and number of games.

outlaws travel team

To teach your young athlete the strategy of baseball/softball and optimize their fundamental skills. To make a positive impact on them as young men & women. To do all this with dignity and respect. We will promote sportsmanship and playing the game the “right way.” Your child will take personal responsibility for his/her actions, apply hard work, perseverance and pay attention to detail. We may not win every game but we will be the most respectful coaches, players and parents in every game we play. Our players are going to play with respect for their teammates, opposing players and umpires, no matter the circumstance.

Time Commitment

· 3-4 days (max) per week for practices and games. Two practices per week are the norm. Most games are scheduled and played on the weekends; any combination of Saturday and Sunday.

· League games will not be scheduled during Tournaments. Tournaments will consist of a minimum of 3 games with a maximum of five or six games over a weekend. Tournaments held during holiday weekends may run for three days. Lodging for parents and players is not included in any organizational cost/fee schedule.

· We will ask for help from players and parents to assist in field preparation, garbage pickup, park cleanliness and with the concession stand. Team “Moms” will help with a concessions schedule for parents to ensure coverage and fairness.

-Please keep in mind, we are all volunteers. “Many hands make light work.”

A Legendary Crew for an Unbelievable Heist: Outlaws of Thunder Junction

outlaws travel team

Welcome to Thunder Junction! Don't mind the tumblewaggs and step inside for a seat—we'd like to introduce you to the main crew and face commanders of the rootinest, tootinest Magic set around. (We checked.) Their story is one worth reading, and you can check out the entire Outlaws of Thunder Junction story now .

If you're excited to see and play with them in game, then good news: Prerelease events at local WPN game stores near you are your first chance to begin assembling your crew. (You can even get a head start with our Outlaws of Thunder Junction Prerelease Primer to be ready.) Check out all their cards below, and we'll see you around here in Thunder Junction.

Oko is one of the most extraordinary beings in the Multiverse—according to Oko. A fae Planeswalker with a knack for transformation and mind-muddling magics, Oko could be anyone, anywhere, at any time (but there's no one he likes being more than his smug, shirtless self). Oko's job is simple: break into the unbreakable vault that floats above the Hellspur city of Tarnation without incurring the wrath of the scorpion dragon outlaw who wants the same thing. Easy! He just needs a team …

Just a kid from Eldraine, Kellan has traveled the Multiverse in search of his father: Oko. After all this time, he's managed to learn a thing or two about himself—including a host of fae powers. Having arrived on Thunder Junction, he's still trying to answer the big questions: "What's my father like? Will he like me? Will I like him?" Kellan, we're afraid you might not like the answers.

Annie Flash

Annie Flash is an Atiin nomad and a former Freestrider. She retired when a job went badly, and her nephew was severely wounded by the dragon Akul. Afterwards, she swore she'd live a normal life—but not before burying her thunder rifle in the backyard in case of emergency. She managed a few months of domestic normalcy before Oko came knocking on her door with an offer she couldn't refuse: a chance to take her revenge on Akul once and for all.

By all accounts, Vraska shouldn't be here. The last time we saw the former Planeswalker, she had been corrupted by the evil Phyrexians and turned into one of their own. Fused with metal and corrupted beyond recognition, somehow Vraska has returned to her former body and former self—only without her Planeswalker's spark. Vraska's here on Ashiok's behalf, a special fixer with a task only the two of them know about.

Rakdos is the guildmaster of the Cult of Rakdos on Ravnica. As powerful as he is ancient, Rakdos isn't always a danger to those around him—only when he gets bored. Much of the Cult of Rakdos's activities are designed to keep their leader entertained. Oko promised Rakdos that there was new excitement to be had on Thunder Junction, so Rakdos agreed to temporarily play along. One way or the other, he's going to make a killing.

Chittering skeleton and resident Little Guy, Tinybones hails from the Urborg region of Dominaria. Unlife isn't easy in Urborg, so Tinybones banded together with some other ghoulies to form an ersatz family. To support his family, Tinybones turned to a life of crime. He probably would have turned to a life of crime anyway, but he was grateful to have an excuse. Infamous for his thieving skills, word of his exploits reached even Oko's ears, who realized this little guy could have a big impact on his schemes.

Malcolm and Breeches

Malcolm and Breeches are former members of Vraska's pirate crew on Ixalan, serving on the ship Belligerent . They're also best friends! They find themselves working with Vraska once again, having joined Oko's heist on her request. Malcolm, a siren, is able to fly through the sky and keep lookout. Breeches, a goblin, loves to blow stuff up. Thunder Junction has beautiful skies to explore and beautiful vistas to explode—the boys will fit right in.

Eriette is one of three witches who cast a spell of slumber upon the plane of Eldraine to save it from the invading Phyrexians. She and her sisters decided not to lift the curse in order to seize power for themselves. Their plans were thwarted and Eriette was imprisoned, only to be freed by the mysterious Planeswalker Ashiok. In return, Ashiok requested she take part in Oko's heist, where her mesmeric abilities will open many doors.

Satoru Umezawa

Satoru is the leader of the Hyozan Reckoners on the plane of Kamigawa. Ruthless and efficient, he is a master ninja covered in magical tattoos that he can freely manipulate. Always seeking to expand his influence, Satoru was the first of his gang through the Thunder Junction Omenpath. Unimpressed with what he saw, he was intercepted by Oko on his way out. Oko promised him a piece of the prize: magical technology from the vault unlike anything Kamigawa has ever seen.

Thousands of years ago, the warlock Kaervek had designs on the continent of Jamuraa on the plane of Dominaria. He was defeated and sealed away in an amber prison. Said prison was then phased out of existence alongside the entire kingdom of Zhalfir. Zhalfir recently returned to the Multiverse, and Kaervek along with it. In the chaos of Zhalfir's return, Kaervek escaped his prison and slipped through an Omenpath to Thunder Junction. While he might lend Oko his services as he finds his bearings, Kaervek's conquering days are certainly not behind him.

Gisa and Geralf Cecani

Gisa and Geralf present an airtight argument for the need for therapy on Innistrad. The siblings are both necromancers by trade, although they take different approaches—Gisa relies on magic, while Geralf is the mad-scientist type. The two participate in what they refer to as "NecroWarfare," a rivalry where they essentially throw zombies at each other until Gisa gets bored. They each accepted Oko's offer for different reasons: Geralf so he could study the workings of a new plane, and Gisa because she wasn't going to watch Geralf get killed without her.

Yuma came to Thunder Junction looking for a new start. A former enforcer for a crime family on New Capenna, Yuma is a skilled fighter with the unique ability to talk to plants. Usually, the plants are happy to listen and help him out in a pinch, but he hasn't grasped the language of Thunder Junction's flora quite yet. Yuma is true to himself and his beliefs, and he will always do what he thinks is right—a tendency that put him on the wrong side of his former employers. After escaping to Thunder Junction, Yuma found a new life and a new purpose: a hungry and bawling baby cactusfolk, lost and alone.

Stella is a young, curious, and daring rogue from a group of far-sojourners, the Atiin. The opening of the Multiverse has been a boon to the Atiin culture's traveling practice. All through her young life, Stella traveled the vast and rolling panoramas of her home plane. When the first Omenpaths opened, the Atiin people continued their nomadic journey. Why not see what else new lands offered?

Stella's travels through the Omenpaths honed her skills in knife throwing, acrobatics, and magic. On Thunder Junction, Stella finally found a place that could satisfy her passion for thrill seeking. Knowing others underestimate her small stature, Stella would easily win duels and leave her opponents on their backs in the dust. Worried that she'll someday be bested (or worse, laughed at), Stella carries a bit of "insurance": a luck-granting artifact that she found on Thunder Junction made from warm metal looped in complex knots.

A wealth of stable Omenpaths appeared in and around the city of Ghirapur after the Phyrexian War. The city is poised to become a center—if not the center—of Multiverse trade, travel, and industry. After some arm-twisting, Gonti found their way into an official post as one of the plane's Multiverse emissaries.

Now in their satellite office on Thunder Junction, Gonti works along two tracks. Their first project focuses on advancing Kaladesh's interests on Thunder Junction by promoting its culture and industries. Their second project advances Gonti's own interests on Thunder Junction and back home by promoting their own endeavors and industries. In time, they'll be called back to Ghirapur to report their contracts and findings, but until then, they plan to take advantage of the frontier and all its wild, untapped potential.

Olivia Voldaren

Enraged by her ruined wedding and failed attempt to usurp all vampiric power on her home plane, Olivia Voldaren decided to take some time for herself and blow off steam by breaking and taking anything she wants somewhere that pesky heroes won't interfere. On Thunder Junction, she's found the perfect place to unwind by causing a little bit of chaos—let out some of that frustration, repair her sanguine bridal train with fresh souls, and plan her next move.

Of course, Olivia's vanity wouldn't let her settle for a solitary vacation to a remote plane. She found a population of like-minded individuals on Thunder Junction made up of frustrated cast-offs foiled by the law, their rivals, or themselves. These misfits might have been lost or scattered to a new land with more ideas than plans, but they all did at least one thing right: when Olivia spoke, they listened. Once more a queen of hungry and deadly subjects, Olivia is turning her relaxing vacation into a productive one.

What you need to know

  • Star Wars Outlaws is an upcoming Star Wars game being developed by Ubisoft Massive, the team that's worked on The Division franchise and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
  • A new story trailer for Star Wars Outlaws shows numerous threats in the Outer Rim, including crime syndicates, Imperial forces, and even a Sarlaac.
  • Star Wars Outlaws is slated to launch on August 30, 2024 on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5.
  • Players that grab the Gold or Ultimate editions of the game will be able to start playing three days earlier.

The next big Star Wars adventure is almost here.

First revealed back during the Xbox Games Showcase in 2023 — with gameplay shown at Ubisoft Forward almost immediately after — Ubisoft Massive's Star Wars Outlaws places players in the shoes of rising rogue Kay Vess. Accompanied by her companion critter Nix, Kay Vess is navigating an open world full of danger in the Outer Rim.

A new story trailer for Star Wars Outlaws shows even more of the dangers the duo face, and also confirms that the game is set to launch on August 30, 2024. You can check out the new story trailer for the game below.

Being at a disadvantage compared to many others in the Star Wars universe, Kay Vess and Nix rely on trickery and subterfuge to succeed, sneaking around and using surprise attacks to undercut more powerful foes. The pair also travel around in a starship, The Trailblazer, which will be used to go between different planets in-game.

Star Wars Outlaws is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5.

Analysis: Looking good, but I'd like to see more

I'm definitely down for an open world Star Wars scoundrel experience, and what the team at Ubisoft Massive has showed so far looks promising. I'd still like to see a bit more though, with some additional details on how big the game is and how the open world design works.

Overall, we've seen a lot of Star Wars games cancelled over the last few years, so after the success of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor , it's nice to see another big team get to take a crack at the galaxy far, far, away that I love so much.

‘Star Wars Outlaws' Launch Date Set, Trailer Released

Ubisoft, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, announced the launch date for "Star Wars Outlaws" - the first open-world Star Wars game - and released the official trailer as well as new details for the much-anticipated title.

"Star Wars Outlaws" will launch Aug. 30 on Xbox Series X|S consoles, PlayStation 5, Amazon Luna and PC through Ubisoft Connect, at a suggested retail price of $69.99 for the base game. ( Watch the trailer below. )

Gamers who subscribe to Ubisoft+ or purchase the Gold Edition or Ultimate Edition of the game will have three days early access, and those who preorder before Aug. 30 will receive the "Kessel Runner Bonus Pack" which includes cosmetics for Kay's speeder and for her ship, the Trailblazer.

Ubisoft revealed more details about the "Star Wars Outlaws" storyline, centered on "cunning scoundrel" Kay Vess and her companion Nix's search for an opportunity of a lifetime. Per the company: "During this era, the Empire's rule is distracted by the rebellion that won't quit, leading to a golden age for the underworld. As a skilled thief, Kay's antics catch the attention of Sliro, the leader of a new, foreboding criminal syndicate Zerek Besh. After Sliro places a bounty on Kay's head, Kay and Nix are offered their one shot at freedom - pull off one of the greatest heists of all time. Kay and Nix will need to navigate the underworld across the galaxy, building their reputation with legendary criminal organizations including the Pyke Syndicate, the Hutt Cartel, the Ashiga Clan and Crimson Dawn to earn the support they need to finish the job."

Kay and Nix will travel across the galaxy to gain the right resources and crew for the ultimate heist. In their journey, they'll travel across distinct locations, both classic and new: Canto Bight, Kijimi, Tatooine, Akiva, and the windswept savannah of Toshara. Along the way, Kay will explore bustling cities and cantinas, race across sprawling outdoor landscapes on her speeder, and pilot her ship the Trailblazer through the wilds of space. When things go awry, the Trailblazer will also help them chase, evade and attack to gain the upper hand in thrilling dogfights with the Empire and other foes.

"In search of true freedom, the resourceful Kay and Nix will journey through the underworld and across the Outer Rim, taking on jobs from syndicates, facing off against intimidating foes, avoiding oppressive Imperial rule and recruiting a skilled outlaw crew in order to pull off one of the greatest heists the galaxy has ever seen," said Julian Gerighty, creative director of "Star Wars Outlaws."

A Look at All the Criminal Syndicates

Kay and Nix will need to travel to the far reaches of the galactic underworld and build their reputation with legendary criminal organizations including the Pyke Syndicate, the Hutt Cartel, Crimson Dawn, and the Ashiga Clan, a new syndicate created in collaboration between Massive Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games. While stealing valuable goods, infiltrating secret locations, and outwitting enemies, players will need to carefully consider how their choices affect their status with each syndicate. Kay’s ever-changing reputation will be influenced by every move.

New Planets and Locations

We saw more of the planets and locations that Kay and Nix will explore on their journey. As Kay, you’ll be able to explore Canto Bight, Tatooine, Kijimi, Akiva, and a new addition to the Star Wars galaxy, Toshara, which was developed by Massive Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games. From the humid jungles of Akiva to the windswept savannah of Toshara, each of these locations offers a unique experience and a variety of gameplay opportunities.

Sliro and the Bounty on Kay’s Head

The story trailer offered a deeper look at Sliro, the antagonist in Star Wars Outlaws and the reason Kay will need to venture across the Outer Rim to free herself from a bounty that follows her. Sliro is one of the galaxy’s elites, living in Canto Bight and leading his own lethal syndicate, Zerek Besh. After a failed job, Sliro places a bounty on Kay’s head and hires Vail, one of the best bounty hunters in the Outer Rim, to hunt Kay down.

Jaylen Gives Kay an Opportunity

In the trailer, Kay is given an opportunity to buy her freedom by Jaylen, a gunrunner and master criminal who has been running heists for years. He sees potential in Kay and offers her a lucrative heist with a score that will set her up for the rest of her life, allowing Kay to fulfill her dream of living life free and finding her place in the galaxy.  Players will be taking on this heist as Key Vess during the game.

Star Wars Outlaws is not only a fully open-world game, but it will also feature branching dialogue and dialogue choices. With all that talking going on, you might be wondering which voice actors and actresses are behind the characters.

We’re going to be looking at the main cast of Star Wars Outlaws so you’ll know who you’ll be listening to as you explore a galaxy far, far away.

The voice actors and cast of Star Wars Outlaws

Humberly gonzález as kay vess.

Actress Humberly González takes on the lead role and player character Kay Vess, voicing her and also providing the motion capture. During the 2023 Ubisoft Forward , González describes Vess as a charming thief and a sneaky scoundrel. Narrative director Navid Khavari explained that the character has an active bounty and is trying to find work in the dark underbelly of the Star Wars world because of this.

González had voice roles in other Ubisoft games— Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Far Cry 6 —but this is her first starring role in a game. She’s no stranger to screen-acting, though; she played Sophie Sanchez in the television show Ginny & Georgia .

Dee Bradley Baker as Nix

Nix is the adorable puppy-like alien and companion to Kay in Outlaws , and he’s voiced by seasoned voice actor Dee Bradley Baker. Nix is not only a cute friend for the player, but he will also help in gameplay by sneaking past enemies.

Dee Bradley Baker is an incredibly accomplished voice actor, having played a range of iconic characters during his extensive career spanning longer than 30 years. Some of his most well-known roles include Perry the Platypus in Phineas and Ferb , Klaus the Goldfish in American Dad, and Taz and Daffy Duck in the original Space Jam movie.

Baker has previously worked in the Star Wars franchise, voicing characters across various projects. His most recent Star Wars role—not counting Outlaws —was in the popular animated series Star Wars: The Bad Batch . Baker is also known for being able to provide unique, animalistic noises for characters that aren’t quite human, which will work perfectly for Nix.

Jay Rincon as ND-5

An image of the droid ND-5 from Star Wars Outlaws

The final main character confirmed is the droid ND-5, voiced by Jay Rincon. The Star Wars Outlaws development team describes ND-5 as a “battle-hardened” droid who joins Kay during her adventure.

Rincon has had a few roles here and there in other video games, such as voicing Bruno in Dead Island 2 and Sergey Nechaev in Atomic Hear t. ND-5 has already become a fan-favorite character thanks to his stylish nature with a long, dark green trench coat. Who said droids can’t be fashion icons?

That’s everything we know about the main cast of Star Wars Outlaws so far. Other actors are listed as appearing in the game on the official IMDB page for the game—such as Tristan D. Lalla, Kristina Sandev, and JayR Tinaco—though it isn’t clear who they will be playing yet. We’ll make sure to keep you updated when we have more information about the cast of Star Wars Outlaws .

Star Wars Outlaws™ Launches August 30, Story Trailer Reveals New Characters and Syndicates

Star Wars Outlaws ™ is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Ubisoft Connect on August 30 and is available for preorder now at the Ubisoft Store. Gold Edition or Ultimate Edition owners and Ubisoft+ Premium subscribers will get early access on August 27. In a new story trailer, more details were revealed about cunning scoundrel Kay Vess and her loyal companion Nix’s search for an opportunity of a lifetime.

undefined

The new trailer also revealed new characters and criminal syndicates. Kay and Nix will need to travel to the far reaches of the galactic underworld, building their reputation with legendary criminal organizations: the Pyke Syndicate, the Hutt Cartel, the Ashiga Clan, and Crimson Dawn. Ubisoft News spoke with Narrative Director Navid Khavari to learn more about these crime syndicates, the game’s antagonist, Sliro, and what it was like creating new syndicates in the Star Wars galaxy.

In the story trailer, we meet Sliro. What can you tell us about Sliro and his connection to Kay Vess?

Navid Khavari: Sliro is one of the galaxy’s elite, living in Canto Bight and leading his own burgeoning and highly lethal criminal syndicate, Zerek Besh. After a failed job, Sliro doesn’t take kindly to Kay, placing a bounty on her head and sending one of the galaxy’s best bounty hunters, Vail, to hunt her down. In search of her freedom from the bounty that follows her, Kay will set out across the Outer Rim, seeking out and convincing skilled and capable outlaws to help her pull off one of the greatest heists the galaxy has ever seen.

In the opening scene of the trailer, Sliro has assembled members of multiple syndicates. Why is Sliro meeting with these syndicates?

NK: Sliro organized this gathering of syndicates as a demonstration of that power and to show that his organization, Zerek Besh, should not be crossed. That’s all we can say for now, but we hope players look forward to learning more when they experience this moment for themselves.

Which syndicates will be featured in Star Wars Outlaws, and what can you tell us about each one?

NK: In the golden age of criminal syndicates, the syndicates in Star Wars Outlaws are spread across the Outer Rim and their impact can be felt everywhere. We have previously shared that The Pyke Syndicate, The Hutt Cartel, and the Ashiga Clan – which is a new syndicate created in close collaboration between Massive Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games – are in the game. Today, we got to reveal that the elegant and sophisticated, yet highly dangerous syndicate, Crimson Dawn, will also be a key player in the underworld of Star Wars Outlaws.

Across the Outer Rim, Kay will build her reputation and form tense and ever-changing alliances with each of these syndicates, which will offer varying gameplay and narrative opportunities depending on your actions, whether providing you access to some of the most lucrative jobs in the galaxy or hunting you down if you’ve double-crossed them. From the old and wealthy Pyke syndicate that made their money from spice mining, the legendary Hutt Cartel with its history of smuggling, Crimson Dawn with spies that lurk in the shadows, and the Ashiga Clan which are driven by the needs of their hive and deal in smuggling, extortion, and sabotage among other things – Kay will learn to navigate these syndicates, their leaders and perhaps even earn herself some support… or at least some credits.

While playing as Kay, in what ways can players interact with these syndicates in the game?

NK: Our game takes place in a golden age for the underworld – these syndicates have real power in the underworld in each of the locations Kay and Nix will visit on their journey. Their impact and influence will be felt wherever you go, from the vendors you interact with, the jobs you take on, the support you receive, and even the access you have to certain territories. As you travel the galaxy, you’ll encounter a range of syndicates and you’ll take on jobs for them which can impact your reputation both positively and negatively, which will definitely help you out in some situations you can’t talk yourself out of.

Kay comes face to face with Jabba the Hutt in the trailer. Can Kay take on jobs for Jabba?

NK: The legendary Hutt Cartel represent one of the criminal syndicates that Kay will encounter during her journey across the Outer Rim. Kay and Nix will come face to face with their leader Jabba in his iconic throne room on Tatooine but the Hutt presence will be felt across other locations and planets too, where you will meet some new faces of the Hutt Cartel, so you’ll need to be careful as your reputation will follow you.

Zerek Besh and the Ashiga Clan are new syndicates. What was it like being able to create new syndicates in the Star Wars galaxy?

NK: It was an honor to collaborate with Lucasfilm Games on bringing new syndicates to life and to be able to add something to this legendary galaxy. Ever since I was a kid, Star Wars was an escape for me and my family and I’ve gone from playing with the Star Wars toys and making up little stories with my brother to now contributing alongside an amazing team and giving back to the franchise that I’ve loved for so long.

Developing Zerek Besh was a really cool experience as they are key to the story – being a game centered on the underworld, our antagonist Sliro needed a syndicate that would follow his every word. Zerek Besh was born out of that idea and we feel we’ve been able to craft something truly unique. They’re a syndicate that is rich and lethal but also quite mysterious – I’m excited for players to learn more about them throughout their journey.

For the Ashiga Clan, this is a syndicate that Kay will encounter and build her reputation with throughout the Outer Rim but primarily in Kijimi, where they have dominated for generations. It was an amazing opportunity to take a species Star Wars fans might be familiar with, like the Melitto and be able to build out this new, very monarchist syndicate based around a hive that leans into their insect roots while introducing new elements and telling a new story with them. Kay will also meet the Queen Ashiga, who can be seen in the trailer.

Sliro hires the bounty hunter, Vail, to go after Kay. Tell us more her.

NK: Sliro hires Vail as she is one of the best bounty hunters in the Outer Rim, raised in the underworld – Vail has had a toe in every syndicate and has learned from each of them. Because of her experience, Vail is a formidable adversary for Kay, she can fight, pilot, hunt, smuggle – anything she needs to in order to pull off a job and claim her bounty.

Kay is informed that in order to buy her freedom, her best and last option is to rob Sliro’s fortune. Why does Kay need a crew to help her, and what can you tell us about the crew?

NK: As a member of the galaxy’s elite, Sliro’s mansion is heavily fortified by multiple levels of security and his own personal syndicate, Zerek Besh. Attempting to rob his mansion alone would be impossible – even if Kay and Nix got in, they wouldn’t be getting out. In order to pull off the job, Kay and Nix will need to travel across the Outer Rim to find skilled outlaws and convince them to join her in pulling off the greatest heist the galaxy has ever seen. There’s a lot of fun and exciting characters that you’ll meet on your journey, some of whom you will have seen in the trailer.

In the trailer, Kay says she’s going to risk it all in order to live free. What does freedom mean to Kay? What does a life of freedom look like for her?

NK: Kay grew up alone, fighting for scraps in the Workers District of Canto Bight, relying on her skills as a thief and Nix to pull off small cons to get by. Kay has always felt that the galaxy is rigged against people like her, and has always dreamt of a life beyond Canto, where she does not answer to anyone. This job is her opportunity to make that dream of hers a reality and to finally be truly free.

Star Wars Outlaws is launching on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC via Ubisoft Connect on August 30, and can be played up to three days early with a Ubisoft+ Premium subscription or by preordering the Gold Edition or Ultimate Edition. You can preorder Star Wars Outlaws now at the Ubisoft Store and receive the Kessel Runner Bonus Pack that includes cosmetics for Kay’s speeder and her ship, the Trailblazer, plus access to an exclusive mission with Jabba the Hutt called ‘Jabba’s Gambit’. Election Updates: Kamala Harris attacks Trump over abortion in Arizona.

Kamala Harris speaks at a podium adorned with the seal of the vice president. A row of U.S. and Arizona flags is behind her.

Nicholas Nehamas

Vice President Kamala Harris laid into former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally on abortion rights in Tucson, Ariz., on Friday, framing the debate as an essential fight over freedom and women’s medical care. “Donald Trump is the architect of this healthcare crisis,” Harris said.

Donald Trump, explaining his changed stance on a federal abortion ban, said: “We broke Roe v. Wade. We did something that nobody thought was possible — we gave it back to the states.” At the same time, he said he disagreed with the Arizona court ruling this week that restored an 1864 law banning abortion.

Donald Trump, asked why he supported a federal abortion ban that the House passed while he was president but now says he would not sign, responded, “Because we don’t need it any longer” after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade in 2022.

Vice President Kamala Harris will soon take the stage here in Tucson, Ariz., where she is expected to blast former President Donald Trump over Arizona’s near-total abortion ban. The setting, a campaign rally, means Harris can speak far more freely about politics than she could if appearing in her official capacity as vice president.

Donald Trump may continue to undermine House Speaker Mike Johnson on policy issues that will make Johnson’s already difficult job close to impossible. But Johnson got Trump to state publicly that he does not think the motions to oust Republican speakers are helpful, and that he gets along “very well” with Johnson.

Nikki Haley, the former govenor of South Carolina, is no longer in the running for the Republican presidential nomination. But she appears to have left her mark. Donald Trump’s remarks today and at other moments this week that abortion restrictions should be left to the states very much echo her consistent stance throughout her campaign.

House Speaker Mike Johnson got everything he was hoping to get out of this trek to Mar-a-Lago: as full-throated an endorsement from Donald Trump as he could expect under the circumstances, which include a motion to oust him from his position by one of Trump’s most stalwart allies in the House. “I stand with the speaker” is what Trump said and what Johnson wanted his members to hear.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said the new legislation would require every person who registered to vote in a federal election to prove first that they were citizens, and it would require states to remove noncitizens from their voter rolls. Studies have shown that it is incredibly rare for noncitizens to vote, nowhere near the level that Donald Trump has claimed.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said House Republicans were introducing a bill that would “require proof of citizenship to vote.” He is repeating Donald Trump’s last claims that Democrats are encouraging migrants to cross the border to turn them into voters, a claim for which there is no support.

Former President Donald J. Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson are holding a news conference after meeting at Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Fla. Trump opened by criticizing President Biden’s handling of the border crisis, as he often does, and Johnson just said that “Election integrity is tied to the lack of border security.”

Vice President Kamala Harris plans to say this afternoon that a second Trump administration would enforce the Comstock Act, a rarely used 1873 federal law, to ban medication abortion nationwide. “They will try to implement on Day 1, even without Congress,” she’ll say. Trump hasn’t mentioned the act, but some allies have begun drafting proposals to enforce it through executive actions. Her comments will be the first time the Biden campaign attacks Trump over the law.

The rare tie for second place in last month’s primary for California’s 16th Congressional District may not lead to a three-way runoff. Election officials in the district said manual recounts would begin on Monday, so one of the candidates could be knocked out. Any citizen can request a recount as long as they pay for each day of counting. In Santa Clara County, where most of the district lies, that’s $32,000 daily.

In a Truth Social post, Donald Trump called on the Arizona legislature to “act as fast as possible” to repeal the 1864 law banning nearly all abortion that was upheld this week by the State Supreme Court, adding to his criticism of the ruling from earlier in the week. He said the “Governor and the Arizona Legislature must use HEART, COMMON SENSE, and ACT IMMEDIATELY, to remedy what has happened.”

Ashley Brundage, a transgender woman who was vice president of diversity, equity and inclusion at PNC Bank, is running as a Democrat for a Tampa Bay Statehouse seat in Florida. She faces Karen Gonzalez Pittman, a Republican who won the seat in 2022 by a significant margin. In an interview with The Floridian, Brundage said she would run in support of two ballot initiatives on recreational marijuana and abortion.

Searing images from Gaza on social media and television have shaped views of the war across the Democratic party. “We are seeing profound pain,” said William J. Barber II, an activist who has spoken with Vice President Kamala Harris about a cease-fire. “Nothing organizes people like that pain.”

The focus of both presidential campaigns will move to Pennsylvania, a battleground state, in the coming week. Donald Trump is set to hold a campaign rally in the Allentown area tomorrow, while Joe Biden will stop in his birthplace of Scranton on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh area on Wednesday and Philadelphia on Thursday.

Social media has played a critical role in shaping perceptions of the Gaza war, especially among young people. Some follow accounts run by Palestinians in Gaza to get their news on the conflict. Plestia Alaqad, a Palestinian journalist and Gaza resident, had about 3,700 followers on Instagram before Oct. 7. Today, she has more than 4.7 million.

“It feels very lonely right now to be a Jew in America,” said Representative Daniel S. Goldman, a New York Democrat, describing attitudes among some progressive Jews amid the Israel-Gaza war.

Support for Palestinians in the U.S. has transformed from a cause largely championed on college campuses and in communities with ties to the region, into a central tenet of the Democratic left and beyond. Here’s our look at how the Gaza war mobilized the American left.

Mike Pence, who was Donald J. Trump’s vice president, has a new role: Grove City College, a small Christian institution in western Pennsylvania, named him as a distinguished visiting fellow at its new Center for Faith & Public Life. This week, Pence assailed Trump after the former president said abortion access should be left up to the states, avoiding mention of a national ban.

Harris blasts Trump on abortion at a campaign rally in Arizona.

Harris blasts trump on abortion in arizona, during a campaign rally, vice president kamala harris blamed former president donald j. trump for the arizona supreme court’s ruling to uphold a near-total ban on abortion..

What has happened here in Arizona is a new inflection point. It has demonstrated once and for all that overturning Roe was just the opening act. Just the opening act of a larger strategy to take women’s rights and freedoms. Part of a full-on attack — state by state — on reproductive freedom. And we all must understand who is to blame. Crowd: “That’s right.” Former President Donald Trump did this. Here’s what a second Trump term looks like. More bans, more suffering and less freedom. Just like he did in Arizona, he basically wants to take America back to the 1800s. Crowd: “That’s right.“ But we are not going to let that happen. [crowd cheering]

Vice President Kamala Harris laid into former President Donald J. Trump over abortion rights at a campaign rally in Arizona on Friday, accusing him of being directly responsible for a court decision this week that upheld the state’s 160-year-old near-total ban on abortion.

“Overturning Roe was just the opening act,” Ms. Harris told a crowd of several dozen supporters at a community center in Tucson, Ariz. “Just the opening act of a larger strategy to take women’s rights and freedoms. Part of a full-on attack — state by state — on reproductive freedom. And we all must understand who is to blame: Former President Donald Trump did this.”

Ms. Harris went on to call abortion restrictions in states like Arizona “Trump’s abortion bans.”

This week, the Arizona Supreme Court ruled that an 1864 law banning almost all abortions, without exceptions for rape or incest, could be enforced, although not right away. Doctors could face prosecution under the law, which dates to a time before Arizona became a state.

The court’s decision came the day after Mr. Trump said that abortion should be left to the states, underscoring the unfavorable political terrain for Republicans on the issue. As president, Mr. Trump appointed three of the Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022, which has led to a proliferation of abortion bans across red states.

Democrats, led by Ms. Harris, have seized on the Arizona law. The Biden campaign released a new messaging campaign with the tagline: “Donald Trump did this.” Abortion rights groups in Arizona have set up rallies around the state, which has a race for an open Senate seat this year that could determine control of the chamber.

“This has been a very, very scary week for our state of Arizona,” said Representative Ruben Gallego, a Democrat who is running for that Senate seat against Kari Lake, a Republican. “Tuesday’s decision rocked all of us. We now have the nation’s most extreme abortion ban.”

Democratic candidates nationwide are focusing on abortion in their races, buoyed by the knowledge that the issue has propelled their party to a series of unexpected victories over the last two years. Abortion is one of the few issues on which President Biden polls better than Mr. Trump.

Mr. Trump has said he does not support the Arizona law, as well as other extreme restrictions such as a six-week ban in Florida. He has argued that supporting those bans is hurting Republicans at the ballot box. But his allies have made plans to use the federal government to limit abortion should they win the White House. In Tucson, Ms Harris referred to those plans, which The New York Times has reported would rely on enforcing the Comstock Act .

“Here’s what a second Trump term looks like,” Ms. Harris said. “More bans, more suffering and less freedom. Just like he did in Arizona, he basically wants to take America back to the 1800s.”

“Shame!” the crowd cried out as she described the potential impact of the 1864 law.

For Ms. Harris, the prominence of abortion in the presidential race is a chance to expand her profile as vice president, as well as her presence on the campaign trail. Last month, she became the highest-ranking U.S. official known to visit an abortion clinic.

“Kamala Harris has become the abortion czar of the Biden administration,” Carol Tobias, the president of the National Right to Life Committee, an anti-abortion group, said in a statement. “Instead of joining with the pro-life movement to build programs and safety nets to help promote real solutions for women and their preborn children, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have engaged in fear-mongering and propaganda.”

Ms. Harris may make for a more natural messenger on abortion than Mr. Biden, an 81-year-old practicing Catholic who has long expressed personal discomfort with the procedure even as he has become a committed supporter of abortion rights. He rarely uses the word “abortion” when speaking. On Friday, in contrast, Ms. Harris leaned into the issue.

In the United States, she argued, freedom includes the right “to make decisions about one’s own body and not have the government telling people what to do.”

Lisa Lerer contributed reporting.

Reporting from Palm Beach, Fla.

Amid a threat to his job, House Speaker Mike Johnson gets a lifeline from Donald Trump.

Speaker Mike Johnson had a difficult week. He is facing a revolt from one of the most conservative members of his caucus that could cost him his job. The prospect of providing additional aid to Ukraine continues to meet opposition. And it took three tries for the House to renew a warrantless surveillance bill.

Then, on Friday, he flew to Florida, where the man who has contributed to many of his challenges threw him a crucial lifeline in his hour of need.

“I stand with the speaker,” former President Donald J. Trump told reporters at Mar-a-Lago, his private club and residence in Palm Beach, Fla., as Mr. Johnson stood behind him and nodded along.

It was a message the speaker needed at a tenuous moment in his leadership, when he faces the threat from one of Mr. Trump’s most loyal allies, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican of Georgia, of a motion to oust him.

It is not clear how far Mr. Trump’s endorsement will go. The former president wields remarkable influence on House Republicans when it comes to stymieing legislation he opposes, but his support was not enough to keep Mr. Johnson’s predecessor, Kevin McCarthy, from a five-day, 15-round ordeal to secure the speakership in the first place.

Mr. Johnson oversees a fractious and thin majority in the House, a reality Mr. Trump acknowledged when asked about Ms. Greene’s threat to push Mr. Johnson from his position.

“He’s doing a really good job under really tough circumstances,” said Mr. Trump, who has helped undermine Mr. Johnson’s legislative agenda by voicing opposition to some of his efforts.

He called the threat of a move to oust Mr. Johnson “unfortunate,” adding, “This is not an easy situation for any speaker.” And he said: “I’m sure that Majorie understands that.”

Even in light of Mr. Trump’s remarks, there appears to be little political downside for Ms. Greene to follow through on her threat to oust Mr. Johnson if he brings an aid package for Ukraine to the floor.

Mr. Trump, who has repeatedly railed against providing more aid to Ukraine, did not fully back Mr. Johnson’s effort to provide additional U.S. military assistance to the nation as it continues to fight against Russia’s invading forces.

But he moderated his stance on Friday, saying that the two had discussed the issue and that he believed they might find common ground in offering aid “in the form of a loan,” an idea the former president has pushed for months.

House Republicans have a narrow majority that leaves little room for dissent if Mr. Johnson wants to advance legislative priorities. But the party remains deeply divided, with many on its right fringe attacking Mr. Johnson’s efforts to find compromise.

“The Lord Jesus himself could not manage this conference,” Representative Troy Nehls, Republican of Texas, said on CNN this week . “You just can’t do it.”

In a social media post after Friday’s news conference, Ms. Greene signaled that Mr. Trump’s high-profile show of support had not changed her view of the speaker. After voicing her continued loyalty to the former president, she said, “But I do not support Speaker Johnson.”

Mr. Johnson, for his part, offered on Friday a high-profile backing of Mr. Trump’s allegations of voter fraud, giving them public support and pushing a proposal to address two issues central to Mr. Trump’s 2024 campaign: border security and repeatedly debunked claims of election fraud.

Since his first presidential campaign, Mr. Trump has claimed without evidence that Democrats are allowing or encouraging migrants to cross the border illegally in order to register them to vote.

It is already illegal for people who are not citizens to vote in federal elections. Fact checkers have found that it happens rarely , often by mistake, and nowhere near the level that Mr. Trump has suggested, such as when he claimed that millions of immigrants who are not citizens voted in 2016.

But Mr. Johnson repeated Mr. Trump’s claims, vowing to push a bill that would require that anyone registering to vote in a federal election prove their citizenship, and require states to remove noncitizens from their voter rolls. Mr. Johnson was not clear on how such a bill might enforce these requirements.

Stoking fears that undocumented immigrants are trying to manipulate U.S. elections is a convenient way for Mr. Trump to seize on the migrant crisis while continuing to sow doubt among his supporters about the security of the country’s elections.

In a statement released by the Biden campaign, Representative Bennie Thompson, Democrat of Mississippi, preemptively labeled the announcement a “sham” and criticized Mr. Trump for repeating his election lies.

“Donald Trump and Mike Johnson don’t care about election integrity,” Mr. Thompson said. “They care only about helping Trump’s campaign of revenge and retribution to regain power at all costs.”

Mr. Johnson played a significant role in supporting Mr. Trump’s false claim that he won in 2020, recruiting House Republicans to sign a legal brief that supported a lawsuit seeking to overturn the election results. He repeated claims about voter fraud in interviews, and he provided Republicans with arguments that some used to object to certifying Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s victory on Jan. 6, 2021.

Well ahead of Election Day this November, Mr. Trump — who faces criminal charges related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 race — has already tried to sow doubt about the 2024 election. He routinely insists at his campaign rallies that Democrats cannot possibly win in November without cheating and has more recently urged his supporters to turn out in droves to ensure that his vote total is “too big to rig.”

Republicans in key battleground states have also since 2020 pushed for increased restrictions on voting, including laws requiring identification at polling places and more limits on mail-in voting and early voting, practices that have tended to favor Democrats in recent cycles.

Mr. Trump has repeatedly attacked both practices, arguing frequently that mail-in voting is rife with fraud and that elections need to be limited to “one-day voting.” Other prominent Republicans, particularly in battleground states, have said that the party needs to encourage the practice in order to chip away at Democrats’ advantages.

On this, Trump and Biden agree: Trump killed Roe v. Wade.

President Biden and former President Donald J. Trump have widely divergent stances on abortion.

But they agree on one point: Mr. Trump was personally responsible for ending the constitutional right to abortion once enshrined in Roe v. Wade . And they are both eager to remind voters of that fact, over and over and over.

“We broke Roe v. Wade,” Mr. Trump said during a joint news conference with House Speaker Mike Johnson in Palm Beach, Fla., on Friday. “We did something that nobody thought was possible.” Minutes later, Mr. Biden’s campaign attacked Mr. Trump simply by amplifying that boast on social media .

The back and forth has become an increasingly frequent occurrence on the campaign trail in recent weeks. Even as Mr. Trump has made efforts to distance himself from the stricter limits on abortion that some states, including Arizona and Florida , have enacted after Roe was overturned in 2022, he has continued to remind voters of his role in an objectively unpopular aspect of his White House legacy.

Democrats are eager to promote Mr. Trump’s bragging over his role in ending the constitutional right to abortion. The Biden campaign in particular has often published posts on social media that are little more than a picture of the former president and a quotation from him saying that he “was able to kill Roe v. Wade.”

Polls have repeatedly found that most Americans disagree with the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe , and Democratic candidates have won races across the country by focusing on abortion rights and Republicans’ efforts to curtail them .

Mr. Trump has acknowledged that Democrats have a clear electoral advantage when running on abortion, and he has repeatedly complained that Republicans do not know how to talk about the issue .

But Mr. Trump is encountering his own difficulties in speaking on the issue. On Monday, he said that abortion should be left to the states , and that “whatever they decide must be the law of the land.” On Wednesday, he went further, saying he would not sign a federal abortion ban if elected president. Early on Friday, he posted a message on social media urging Republicans in the Arizona State Legislature to “ACT IMMEDIATELY” to change a near-total abortion ban in the state that was enacted in 1864.

Hours later, he was back to bragging about his hand in overturning Roe.

“If you look at what we’ve done with Roe v. Wade,” Mr. Trump said at his news conference with Mr. Johnson, “we did something that everyone said couldn’t be done, and we got it done. I give great credit to the Supreme Court justices for having the courage to do it.”

Kari Lake backs a Republican effort in Arizona to drop its 1864 abortion law in favor of a 15-week ban.

A handful of Arizona Republican legislators looking to overturn a 160-year-old state law that bans nearly all abortions have a new high-profile supporter: Kari Lake, a prominent Senate candidate and a close ally of Donald J. Trump.

The state Supreme Court’s ruling on Tuesday that upheld the 1864 law, from before Arizona was a state, set off a political firestorm, with Democrats predicting it would cause women to turn out in droves in a key swing state to protect access to abortion rights.

Now, some Republicans are looking for a way out of their political dilemma after their party blocked efforts to reverse the law . They see Ms. Lake, who is in a competitive race that could determine control of the Senate, as an important ally. Ms. Lake has called a handful of state legislators to offer her support in any effort to repeal the law and revert to the 15-week abortion ban that was in effect in Arizona, according to a person familiar with the outreach.

The new stance is an abrupt about-face for many Arizona Republicans, who cheered when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022 and then pushed quickly for reinstating the near-total ban from 1864. Ms. Lake herself had praised the 160-year-old ban during her 2022 run for governor, calling it a “great law,” but on Tuesday condemned the court decision, saying it was “out of step with Arizonans.”

Other Republicans followed suit.

“It is time for my legislative colleagues to find common ground of common sense: the first step is to repeal the territorial law,” State Senator Shawnna Bolick posted on X. It was a departure for Ms. Bolick, who once signed onto a law that would require prosecutors to charge women who have abortions with homicide and voted for the 15-week ban in 2022, legislation that included a provision allowing the 1864 law to go into effect.

The Republican backtracking reflects just how sharply public opinion has shifted on abortion since the Supreme Court’s consequential ruling, and how damaging the issue has been to their party. State laws on abortion enacted since Roe was overturned fueled strong showings by Democratic candidates in the 2022 midterms, and voters have turned out in force to protect abortion rights when they have been on the ballot, even in red states.

Still, the shift in tone went only so far. As Arizona Democrats clamored for votes and debate on proposals to repeal the 1864 ban on Wednesday, they were blocked by Republicans, who quickly shut down legislative proceedings and voted to adjourn until next week.

The 1864 law outlaws abortion from the moment of conception, with an exception only to save the life of a mother, and does not make allowances for rape or incest. The 15-week ban also lacks exceptions for rape or incest.

The State Senate president, Warren Petersen, and the State House speaker, Ben Toma, both Republicans, supported the abortion ban. Despite pressure from Democrats, women’s groups and even some Republicans, they have signaled they are in no hurry to repeal it.

“We as an elected body are going to take the time needed to listen to our constituents,” Mr. Toma said, adding that the Republican-controlled House would not “rush legislation on a topic of this magnitude.”

Democrats said it was urgent to pass a repeal before the court’s ruling upholding the 1864 law takes effect. “Today’s legislative action was unconscionable,” Gov. Katie Hobbs of Arizona, a Democrat, wrote on X. “The extremist Republican majority had the chance to do the right thing for their constituents, and they failed.”

Mr. Trump, after months of mixed signals — including privately telling allies he liked the idea of a 16-week federal ban — said this week that abortion restrictions should be left to the states, and then on Wednesday criticized the Arizona ruling and said he would not sign a federal ban.

Ms. Lake, who frequently stated her opposition to abortion on the campaign trail in 2022 and called it the “ultimate sin,” has been emblematic of a Republican shift on the issue . Last year, she said she opposed a federal ban on the procedure and would focus on passing policies giving financial benefits to women who chose to have children.

(On Tuesday, a Lake adviser claimed that the “great law” comment had been referring to the 15-week ban, signed by Gov. Doug Ducey in 2022. But Ms. Lake had referred to the near-total abortion ban by its number in Arizona’s state code, saying in a 2022 interview: “I’m incredibly thrilled that we are going to have a great law that’s already on the books. I believe it’s ARS 13-3603 .”)

On Thursday, she posted a five-and-a-half-minute video on X, trying to carve out a middle ground on the issue by describing her own decision to have a baby.

“I agree with President Trump: We must have exceptions for rape, incest and the life of a mother,” Ms. Lake said in the video. “As your senator, I will oppose federal funding for abortion and federal banning of abortion.”

Other Arizona Republicans have come out against the near-total ban, including Representatives Juan Ciscomani and David Schweikert, both of whom are in competitive districts. Mr. Ciscomani said he still supported the 15-week ban, while Mr. Schweikert, who in the past cosponsored a bill that would have amounted to a federal abortion ban, called on the State Legislature “to address this issue immediately.”

Democrats highlighted the Republicans’ shift, saying they were hypocritical and papering over their anti-abortion histories.

“Arizona’s MAGA Republicans are lying about their long and detailed history of following Trump’s lead in taking away reproductive rights,” one email from the state Democratic Party read, echoing national Democrats’ messaging on abortion . Hannah Goss, a spokeswoman for Representative Ruben Gallego, the Democrat who is poised to face Ms. Lake, said her “longstanding record of wanting to ban abortion is clear.”

State Representative Stephanie Stahl Hamilton, a Democrat from southern Arizona, said that Democrats had introduced bills for six legislative sessions seeking to repeal the territorial-era ban, including a measure she introduced in January, but that Republican majorities had never allowed the measures to advance.

“I crafted a damn bill,” she said. “It just got ignored.”

The D.N.C. helped pay Biden’s legal bills in the special counsel documents inquiry.

Even as some of President Biden’s top campaign officials were attacking Donald J. Trump’s campaign for soliciting donations to pay his legal fees, the Biden-aligned Democratic National Committee was helping pay for lawyers in the special counsel investigation into Mr. Biden’s handling of classified documents.

The D.N.C. has directed at least $1.7 million to lawyers since July to cover the president’s representation in the documents inquiry, a figure that pales in comparison to Mr. Trump’s use of supporters’ donations to pay his hefty legal fees. The former president has spent more than $100 million on legal bills since leaving office, relying almost entirely on donations.

Federal Election Commission records show that since the investigation began last year, the D.N.C. has paid $1.05 million to Bob Bauer, the president’s lawyer. The party committee has also paid $905,000 to Hemenway & Barnes, a Boston firm that employs Jennifer Miller, a lawyer whom the special counsel’s report identified as a “personal counsel for Mr. Biden.”

The party’s payments to cover Mr. Biden’s lawyers — first reported by Axios on Friday — are roughly in line with amounts donors spent to pay for legal defenses for President Barack Obama during his first term.

The Biden campaign has repeatedly amplified the Trump campaign’s use of donor money to pay the former president’s legal bills in his four criminal cases.

As recently as last weekend, top Biden campaign officials celebrated their fund-raising prowess with jabs at Mr. Trump for asking donors to subsidize his lawyers.

“ Every single dime that you give to the Biden-Harris re-election campaign, we spend talking to voters,” Rufus Gifford, the campaign’s finance chairman, said during a Saturday interview on MSNBC . “We are not spending money on legal bills.”

In an April 5 interview with The New York Times , Jeffrey Katzenberg, the Hollywood mogul who is a Biden campaign co-chairman, also brought up how Mr. Trump is paying his legal fees.

“I’ll take our hand that we are playing, as opposed to hosting a bunch of fat-cat billionaires hanging out at Mar-a-Lago, plotting how to pay his legal bills and buy political favor,” Mr. Katzenberg said as he discussed the Biden operation’s fund-raising in March, when the campaign, together with the D.N.C. and affiliated committees, brought in $90 million.

Mr. Gifford and a representative for Mr. Katzenberg did not respond to messages on Friday morning.

Kevin Munoz, a Biden campaign spokesman, said the Biden campaign used money raised from its small-dollar solicitations to spread its message directly to voters. “That’s a stark contrast to Trump, who is begging retirees and hard-working Americans to pay off his legal fees,” he said.

Officials with the Biden campaign and the D.N.C. sought to draw a distinction between money raised from small donors to the Biden campaign and the typically larger contributions to the party committee, which was the vehicle used to pay Mr. Biden’s personal legal fees.

“The D.N.C. does not spend a single penny of grass-roots donors’ money on legal bills, unlike Donald Trump, who actively solicits legal fees from his supporters and has drawn down every bank account he can get his hands on like a personal piggy bank,” said Alex Floyd, a D.N.C. spokesman.

Officials with the Biden campaign and the D.N.C. have for nearly a year made no distinction between the organizations when boasting about their fund-raising. In numerous instances — such as when Mr. Biden’s team raised $25 million at a single event with former President Bill Clinton and Mr. Obama — they have cast the campaign, the party and its affiliated committees as a single “Team Biden-Harris” to create a more impressive overall fund-raising total.

A Democratic coalition sends Biden a demand on cutting off military aid to Israel.

A coalition of a dozen liberal organizations and labor unions sent a letter to the White House on Thursday night demanding that President Biden end military aid to Israel until its government lifts restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza, the latest indicator of shifting mainstream Democratic opinion on the war.

The group includes not only progressive groups like MoveOn and the Working Families Party, but also the mainstream Democratic Center for American Progress and NextGen America, the organization founded and funded by Tom Steyer, a billionaire who ran for president in the 2020 Democratic primary. Other signatories to the letter include the Service Employees International Union and the National Education Association, labor unions that make up key elements of the Democratic Party.

The letter calls on Mr. Biden to enforce the Foreign Assistance Act, which bars military support from going to any nation that restricts the delivery of humanitarian aid.

“This will send a clear message that the Netanyahu government is not above the law and that the U.S. will not stand by while the war kills innocent Palestinians and continues to drive escalation throughout the region,” the letter states, referring to Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. “U.S. law is unequivocal: Countries that obstruct U.S. humanitarian aid cannot receive U.S. military aid under the Foreign Assistance Act or the Arms Export Control Act.”

Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez, the president of NextGen America, which focuses on driving voter turnout among young people, said there was growing risk that Mr. Biden will lose support from a key part of the Democratic coalition if there is not a significant change in the American position toward the war in Gaza.

“We are concerned with the humanitarian and moral implications and the political survival of the administration,” Ms. Tzintzún Ramirez said. “We’ve seen a surge of young people say they care about foreign policy and this issue in a way we have not seen historically.”

Last week, Mr. Biden told Mr. Netanyahu that the United States could withhold support for Israel if it does not do more to protect civilians and ensure adequate supplies for Gaza. And since then the president has repeated that getting more aid into Gaza is a priority.

“They need to do more,” Mr. Biden said of Israel’s government and Mr. Netanyahu during a news conference Wednesday . “There’s one more opening that has to take place in the north. So we’ll see what he does in terms of meeting the commitments he made to me.”

The White House and the Biden campaign declined to comment on the letter.

The letter adds to the growing pressure Mr. Biden has faced from across the Democratic Party as Israel’s war in Gaza enters its seventh month. More than 33,000 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the local health authorities. About 1,200 people were killed in Israel when Hamas militants launched an attack that instigated the conflict on Oct. 7.

Israeli officials believe there are about 130 hostages remaining in Gaza, and Israeli intelligence officers have concluded that at least 30 of those have died in captivity.

Last month, Senator Bernie Sanders, independent of Vermont, and seven Democratic senators sent Mr. Biden a similar request . In the meantime, Mr. Biden has made increasingly angry statements about Israel’s conduct in the Gaza war, particularly following the Israeli airstrike last week that killed seven members of an aid convoy from World Central Kitchen , the charity run by the Spanish chef José Andrés.

Trump, who tried to repeal Obamacare, says he is ‘not running to terminate’ it.

Former President Donald J. Trump said in a video posted to his social media site on Thursday that he was “not running to terminate” the Affordable Care Act, his latest effort to push back on attacks from the Biden campaign and other Democrats over his calls to replace the legislation known as Obamacare.

In a statement similar to one he posted in March, Mr. Trump said the health care law was “much too expensive” and “not very good,” and added, without providing specifics, that he would improve it if re-elected. Those statements came after he drew criticism for having again suggested, in the last few months , that he would repeal the law, which has become more popular since its enactment 14 years ago.

“We’re going to make the A.C.A. much better than it is right now and much less expensive for you,” Mr. Trump said in the video.

On Tuesday in Washington, President Biden accused Republicans of aiming to “terminate the Affordable Care Act” at an event for caregivers, where he promoted expanding paid medical leave, child care subsidies and early education.

Also this week, Mr. Trump shifted his stance on abortion. For months, he gave mixed signals on his position, before saying in a statement on Monday that abortion policies should be left to the states .

The former president’s pledge to repeal the health care legislation dates to his first presidential campaign in 2016, when many Republicans were issuing calls to “repeal and replace” the law. But Mr. Trump did not offer a substantive proposal to replace it, and efforts backed by his administration to repeal parts of the law were rejected by Congress and the Supreme Court .

For months, the Biden campaign has attacked Mr. Trump on the issue, after he described the Affordable Care Act last November as “out of control” and said he was “seriously looking at alternatives” to it. The Biden campaign quickly amplified those remarks , and Mr. Biden offered his own criticism last November, saying, “My predecessor once again called for cuts that could rip away health insurance for tens of millions of Americans.”

Mr. Trump’s response on Thursday echoed a post he made on social media in March, in which he claimed, in all caps and with a misspelling of Mr. Biden’s name, that “crooked Joe Buden disinformates and misinformates all the time.” That post came days after the Biden campaign released a digital ad in battleground states that featured audio of Mr. Trump criticizing the Affordable Care Act and claiming that Mr. Trump “tried to rip away our health care” as president.

More than 45 million people are enrolled in Affordable Care Act-related coverage, according to a recent report from the Department of Health and Human Services. A record number of people — more than 20 million — have signed up for plans on the act’s marketplaces this year, according to the Biden administration. Mr. Biden proclaimed that the figure proved that the legislation “is more popular than ever.”

The campaign for R.F.K. Jr. fires a consultant caught on video saying a Kennedy vote would help Trump.

The presidential campaign of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has fired a consultant, according to the campaign’s manager, after a video circulated of her urging an audience to support Mr. Kennedy on the ballot in New York because it would help former President Donald J. Trump defeat President Biden.

The consultant, Rita Palma, had falsely identified herself as the New York state director of Mr. Kennedy’s campaign, Amaryllis Fox, Mr. Kennedy’s campaign manager and daughter-in-law , said late on Wednesday, adding that the campaign had fired Ms. Palma “immediately” after seeing the video “in which she gave an inaccurate job title and described a conversation that did not happen.”

In that video, Ms. Palma — who Ms. Fox said had been hired as a ballot access consultant in the state — said that “the Kennedy voter and the Trump voter, our mutual enemy is Biden,” adding, “Whether you support Bobby or Trump, we all oppose Biden.”

Encouraging the audience of Republicans to support Mr. Kennedy, Ms. Palma outlined a hypothetical scenario in which Mr. Kennedy would win enough electoral votes to prevent both Mr. Trump and Mr. Biden from winning 270 electoral votes, pushing the decision to Congress in what is known as a contingent election .

“Right now, we have a majority of Republicans in Congress,” Ms. Palma said in the video, referring to the House of Representatives. “So who are they going to pick? If it’s a Republican Congress, they’ll pick Trump.” In such a scenario, the Senate — which the Democrats currently control — would also elect the vice president.

CNN reported earlier this week that Ms. Palma had also promoted false claims that the 2020 election was stolen from Mr. Trump, whom she repeatedly called her “favorite president.”

Before saying that Ms. Palma had been fired, Ms. Fox said in a statement earlier in the week that “the video circulating was not taken at a campaign event.”

She added: “Palma was speaking as a private citizen and her statements in no way reflect campaign strategy, the sole aim of which is to win the White House.”

Allies of Mr. Trump have been discussing ways to elevate third-party candidates such as Mr. Kennedy in battleground states to divert votes away from Mr. Biden.

Mr. Kennedy has also recently aligned himself closer to Mr. Trump by sympathizing with those who have been convicted of crimes in connection to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack at the Capitol. Mr. Kennedy later retracted many of those comments, saying that his campaign made “unforced errors” when addressing the issue, but stood by his commitment to appoint a special counsel to “look at” the criminal cases of some of the rioters.

Kristi Noem, the South Dakota governor and Trump V.P. contender, is barred from tribal lands.

Four of South Dakota’s federally recognized Native American tribes have barred the state’s governor, Kristi Noem — a Republican whose name has been floated as a potential running mate for former President Donald J. Trump — from their reservations. The latest blocked Ms. Noem on Thursday .

Three of the tribes barred Ms. Noem this month, joining another tribe that had sanctioned the governor after she told state lawmakers in February that Mexican drug cartels had a foothold on their reservations and were committing murders there.

Ms. Noem further angered the tribes with remarks she made at a town hall event last month in Winner, S.D., appearing to suggest that the tribes were complicit in the cartels’ presence on their reservations.

“We’ve got some tribal leaders that I believe are personally benefiting from the cartels being there, and that’s why they attack me every day,” Ms. Noem said.

The tribes are the Cheyenne River Sioux, the Rosebud Sioux and the Standing Rock Sioux and the Oglala Sioux, which in February became the first group to bar Ms. Noem from its reservation. Their reservations have a combined population of nearly 50,000 people and encompass more than eight million acres, according to state and federal government counts. Standing Rock Indian Reservation, the third tribal area to have restricted Ms. Noem’s access, extends into North Dakota.

The tribes have accused Ms. Noem of stoking fears and denigrating their heritage when she referred to a gang known as the Ghost Dancers while addressing state lawmakers and said that it had recruited tribal members to join its criminal activities.

The gang has the same name as the participants in the Native American ghost dance ceremony , a sacred ritual dating to the 19th century.

“Gov. Kristi Noem’s wild and irresponsible attempt to connect tribal leaders and parents with Mexican drug cartels is a sad reflection of her fear-based politics that do nothing to bring people together to solve problems,” Janet Alkire, the chairwoman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, said in a statement this week.

Ms. Noem stood by her comments in a statement to The New York Times on Friday.

“Tribal leaders should immediately banish the Mexican drug cartels that are responsible for murders, rapes, drug addiction and many more crimes on tribal lands,” she said. “The people in the communities live with unspeakable horrors and tragedy every day, but banishing me for telling the truth about the suffering does nothing to solve the problems. It may play well for the leftist media, but in reality, it’s pointless.”

When asked about Ms. Noem’s claims that tribal leaders were benefiting from the cartels’ presence on reservations, an aide pointed to her recent remarks to The Dakota Scout , an alternative newspaper based in Sioux Falls, S.D., doubling down on them and criticizing the tribes’ response to the cartels.

“That tells me that they are tied to them or benefiting from them somehow, that they’re allowing them to stay in their communities,” she said.

The governor’s office provided photos to The Times that it said were from a gang promotion ceremony featuring several men wearing clothing adorned with Ghost Dancers patches. The Times was unable to verify the images independently.

It also released a recording of a conversation that it said was between the secretary of the South Dakota Department of Tribal Relations and a leader of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in which they discussed how a single Tribal Council representative from South Dakota had voted to bar Ms. Noem from its reservation. The remaining votes came from Tribal Council members who reside in North Dakota, according to the governor’s office.

Efforts to reach the Tribal Council member said to be in the recording were not immediately successful.

In a social media post on Thursday, Ms. Noem argued that her comments about cartel activity on the reservations were similar to remarks that Senator Jon Tester, Democrat of Montana, made last month before the Senate Indian Affairs Committee.

“We’ve got cartels in Indian Country,” he said, using an expletive to say there was a lot of “bad” stuff going on.

Mr. Tester, a member of the Indian Affairs Committee, had been pushing for additional law enforcement resources for tribal lands, mirroring calls from tribal leaders in Montana for help from the federal government in addressing crime. His comments differed in tenor from Ms. Noem’s, and he did not level accusations that tribal leaders were complicit in the rise of the cartels on reservations.

A spokesman for Mr. Tester, who is running for re-election in a crucial contest for control of the Senate, declined to comment on Friday.

In November, the Oglala Sioux Tribe, citing a rise in drug-related offenses, assaults and homicides on its reservation, declared a state of emergency , which remains in effect.

Then, in January, the tribe accused the federal government in a lawsuit of failing to provide adequate funding as required by longstanding treaties for law enforcement coverage on the reservation, an area larger than Rhode Island and Delaware combined.

The tribe said in its lawsuit that it receives enough federal funding for only 33 police officers and eight criminal investigators, which it said had contributed to an uptick in crime. But the tribe pushed back against Ms. Noem’s claims that the cartels were using the reservation to facilitate the spread of illegal drugs and said that the problem existed when Mr. Trump was president.

The cartels’ reach on tribal lands is gaining heightened attention on Capitol Hill, where at least two congressional panels recently focused on surging crime connected to the groups.

At a hearing on Wednesday, Jeffrey Stiffarm, a tribal leader from Montana, told a House oversight committee that “these drug cartels are specifically targeting Indian Country because of a dangerous combination of rural terrain, history of addiction, under-resourced law enforcement, legal loopholes, sparsely populated communities and exorbitant profits, and it is devastating tribal reservations.”

South Dakota has nine federally recognized Native American tribes, which have at times sparred with Ms. Noem over issues related to their sovereignty , her support for the now-halted Keystone XL pipeline and access to their reservations at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, which in 2019 lifted a previous barring of her, said the governor’s political ambitions had motivated her actions.

In a statement posted on Facebook in February, the president, Frank Star Comes Out, said that “the truth of the matter is that Governor Noem wants the use of the so-called ‘invasion’ of the southern border as a Republican ‘crisis’ issue” to encourage Mr. Trump to use it as a campaign issue and to select her as his running mate.

At the Conservative Political Action Conference later in February, a straw poll showed Ms. Noem tied for the top choice to be Mr. Trump’s running mate .

The tribes’ criticism of Ms. Noem began after the governor addressed a joint session of the South Dakota Legislature on Feb. 2 about the tide of illegal border crossings.

“Make no mistake, the cartels have a presence on several of South Dakota’s tribal reservations,” she said. “Murders are being committed by cartel members on the Pine Ridge Reservation and in Rapid City, and a gang called the Ghost Dancers are affiliated with these cartels. They have been successful in recruiting tribal members to join their criminal activity.”

Ms. Noem said the state government did not have the jurisdiction to intervene and provide law enforcement support to South Dakota’s tribes.

On Thursday, Ms. Noem announced that South Dakota would begin offering training to tribal law enforcement officers , who currently must travel to New Mexico for it.
