27 Cheap destinations for 2024 with great weather in June

June is traditionally the first big vacation month of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, but there are still loads of excellent places to go with good weather and affordable prices. Actually, June can be an ideal choice for those with time off because so many Europeans spread all over the world during their more popular holiday months of July and August. While the beach areas in Europe and North America tend to be crowded and expensive in June, there are many great options not too far away that are still cheap and have great weather.

You’ll find great choices in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia as well, all in affordable price categories. The Americas

In North America, June is obviously the start of summer, but most of the north isn’t really cheap enough to make this list. In South America it’s winter in most places, so only the Tropical cities are worth a look for a good-weather bargain at this time of year. The hot countries in June are mostly in the north at this time of year.

The Caribbean

Since June is an extremely popular wedding months, here are the best Caribbean islands and resorts for honeymoons .

Cancun, Mexico

• June avg high: 91°F/33°C

Cancun highlights

• Excellent beaches with turquoise water in many Cancun areas
• The Caribbean’s best nightlife (if you want it), but also easy to avoid
• A great range of all-inclusive resorts in every price range
• Every imaginable activity, water sport, and golf, plus famous ruins
• Cenotes, which are semi-enclosed sea caves that are unique to this area

If you are looking for a high-rise resort on a beach then you’ll definitely want to look along the main Hotel Zone in Cancun itself. But if you would prefer to stay in an actual town with dozens of nearby choices of local restaurants and bars, then you should head to Playa del Carmen or even the island of Cozumel just across the water. They will all be bargains in June, and the sea breezes will keep you cool during the times you aren’t in your air-conditioned hotel room. Tulum, which is just south of Playa del Carmen, is a trendy new destination for creative types. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

• June avg high: 89°F/32°C
• June avg precip: 1.7″/4.0cm

Punta Cana highlights

• Fantastic all-inclusive beach resorts with the best value in the Caribbean
• A large and modern airport and highways to get you in safely
• White, sandy beaches at most every resort, and ALL of the better ones
• Fishing, sailing, water sports, golf, and other adventure excursions available
• Family-friendly resorts are available for families with kids

This area gets crowded with European visitors during July and August, and most of the resorts here are owned by Spanish (or at least European) hotel companies. So June is the perfect month for great weather and modest prices for an all-inclusive resort. The flights to the new and efficient airport here should be well priced this month as well. Punta Cana also tops our list of the best Caribbean destinations for families with children because there are so many excellent and affordable resorts that have water parks and kids clubs.

Montego Bay, Jamaica

• June avg high: 90°F/32°C
• June avg low: 76°F/24°C

Montego Bay highlights

• Jamaica has a famous cuisine, excellent fruits, and great frozen drinks
• Sandy beaches at most resorts, although it’s important to check at cheaper places
• Excellent sunsets in Negril and other west-facing beaches
• Music and nightlife for those brave enough to leave the resorts, and great parties inside the resorts
• The only large Caribbean island where all the locals speak English

If Montego Bay itself doesn’t sound ideal then you might instead consider  Negril  or  Ocho Rios , both of which are about 90 minutes away from Montego Bay Airport. Ocho Rios has a similar strip of large resorts along its coast, with some interesting nearby sights and attractions. Negril, on the other hand, is best for smaller beach hotels along 7-Mile Beach, where there are many small restaurants and bars to choose from nearby each property. This is where you go to find the old-school super chilled out Jamaica.

Los Cabos, Mexico

• Amazing marina area with outstanding shopping, restaurants, and shops
• A great mix of traditional and all-inclusive resorts

It’s worth noting that the Los Cabos area is made up of two cities and a stretch of beach between them. Cabo san Lucas is the western town built around the large and gorgeous marina, and San Jose del Cabo is the eastern town closer to the airport where things are more spread out. There are loads of great beach resorts in the area, including many luxurious ones in between the towns. If you prefer nightlife and shopping you’ll want to stay in the Cabo san Lucas area, and families are probably better off almost anywhere else.

Mexico City, Mexico

• Excellent food (not just Tex-Mex) at appealing prices

Flights from the US and Canada tend to be cheap, the city center area is very nice in many places, and prices are very low compared to almost anywhere else. This is a very underrated destination that is far safer than many cities in the US, and the mild June weather is a perfect reason to visit. In other words, Mexico City is not one of the hottest places in June, but it’s pleasantly mild and much nicer than you might expect.

Cartagena, Colombia

• June avg high: 87°F/31°C
• June avg low: 79°F/26°C

Cartagena highlights

• Gorgeous and historic colonial wall town center
• Good beaches and other nearby sights
• Great food and drinks that are surprisingly cheap
• A unique atmosphere that is very different from the large Caribbean islands
• Nearby islands, water sports, and other activities

The winter is probably the best time to visit, but it’s really quite nice all year round, and still very cheap as well. If you like culture, history, and gorgeous Colonial architecture you’ll want to stay in the walled city area. But if you mainly want to relax on the beach you’ll want to stay in the Bocagrande area just to the west of the walled city. There are quite a few all-inclusive resorts in Cartagena as well and the prices are very appealing, but food and drinks in the city and at beach restaurants are pretty cheap as well so you may not want to commit to staying in one place for your entire trip.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rio de Janeiro highlights

• Copacabana and Ipanema beach areas are world-class beaches and very entertaining
• Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf cable car are amazing in person, if a bit expensive
• Famous beach scene where locals far outnumber tourists all year round
• Great food and drink culture at reasonable prices
• Excellent-value smaller hotels in the nicer beach areas

Rio and the rest of Brazil had becomes somewhat expensive a few years back, but the currency here has come back down and now it’s definitely a bargain again. The chain hotels on Copacabana and Ipanema beaches are still pretty expensive although for security reasons they might be worth the splurge. Still, if you look for smaller family-run hotels and restaurants, Rio can be as affordable as it is beautiful, and it’s really beautiful.

When June rolls in it’s still quite cold in the north of Europe, and incredibly expensive as well. The best vacations in June are therefore toward the south in Europe. June is actually a perfect month to get some sun because peak season doesn’t start until July and yet the weather is perfect already. Lisbon, Portugal

• June avg high: 77°F/25°C

Lisbon highlights

• Historic castles, towers, and cathedrals, all in the compact town center
• Tram 28, which connects many of Lisbon’s tourist sights for €3 or less
• Elevador de Santa Justa – the famous outdoor elevator
• Great food that is surprisingly cheap for a large European capital
• Fado (local folk music) shows to go along with great meals

The temperatures in Lisbon during June are pretty much perfect for climbing up and down its seven hills without making a mess of yourself. It’s hard to make a case for flying a long way to visit Portugal alone, although there’s actually plenty to see and do, plus the wonderful Algarve region in the south, so this is usually an add-on to some trips of Spain. If you are on the fence, definitely take the leap and you won’t regret it.

Madrid, Spain

Madrid highlights

• Best place to experience the wide range of Spanish cultural highlights in one place
• Royal Palace complex
• Prado Museum, which is one of the world’s best art museums and a gorgeous building
• Tapas bars, where you get free snacks with each drink ordered
• Excellent nightlife that draws people from all over the world

The nightlife in Madrid is also famous, and in June things are really going strong. You’ve probably heard that people eat dinner late here and then young people head to the clubs after midnight. Even if you aren’t one to stay up that late, you’ll find plenty to see and do here well into the evening. The siesta thing is still observed in Madrid, so be prepared to relax indoors or find other things to do while most businesses are closed from 2 PM until 4 PM or so.

Barcelona, Spain

It’s another that may not be super cheap, but it’s very reasonable compared to the rest of Western Europe, and definitely worth a visit at least once in your life for the unusual architecture alone. It’s worth noting that Barcelona has become so crowded in peak months in recent years that the city government is trying to curtail some tourism. June is a busy month, so be prepared for crowds.

Prague, Czechia

• June avg high: 72°F/22°C
• June avg precip: 2.9″/7.3cm

Prague highlights

• Prague Castle complex, which is one of Europe’s easiest to tour
• Charles Bridge and Old Town Square
• Eastern Europe’s most interesting architecture that survived WWII
• Hearty food at great prices (if you avoid tourist zones)
• Arguably the world’s best beer that is also very cheap (if you avoid the tourist zones)

Hotels here can be expensive, especially if you stay in or near the historic center, but the public transportation here is cheap and efficient so saving money by staying a little away from the river is often the best choice. Beer here is famously good and cheap, although it’s only cheap at places where locals outnumber the tourists, and those can be hard to find in the Old City, which is another good reason to stay a bit on the outskirts.

Krakow, Poland

• Great food and hotels that can be shockingly cheap for Europe
• Lively nightlife and culture
• An easy day trip to Auschwitz is unforgettable

This is the new hot destination for British stag and hen parties, and one look at the beer prices makes it easy to see why. In fact, Krakow is so pleasant and affordable that it can be a good place for a longer stay if you are touring Europe. You can see the main sights in 3 days or so, and that allows you to slow down and relax if you want to catch your breath before exploring more expensive cities like Paris or London.

Budapest, Hungary

Budapest highlights

• Parliament building overlooking the Danube
• Some of Europe’s best architecture fitting of a capital
• Very cheap food and drinks (outside of the main tourist zone)
• Natural hot spring complexes right in the city that are easy and cheap to visit
• “Ruin pubs” set in courtyards of old apartment buildings (a surprising treat)

Budapest is always near the top of our list of cheapest cities in Europe , which is somewhat surprising when you visit and see how nice the place is. Hotels near and overlooking the Danube can be pricey, and yet if you go a few blocks inland you can get a really nice place for a fraction of the cost.

Athens, Greece

• Great food and drinks at reasonable prices, largely outdoor and fun

Athens continues to be a bargain by most European standards, and it’s especially cheap when the Euro is as low as it is. The main sights here are also reasonably priced, especially considering how amazing they are. You can’t really say the same thing about London or Paris, where the attractions can really take a toll on the budget.

Split, Croatia

• June avg high: 80°F/26°C

Split highlights

• Stunning white-marble historic center dating back over 1,000 years
• Gorgeous port area with ferries going to nearby islands
• Diocletian’s Palace and other easily accessible sights
• Pleasant seaside summer weather with sea breezes
• Much cheaper than nearby Italy or even Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is completely packed with tourists and cruise passengers, especially in summer, but Split is a similar-looking real city filled mostly with locals. It’s also easier to reach, as well as the transit hub to the nearby islands off Croatia. The area does get crowded in summer, but not quite so bad until July and August when all the Germans and northern Europeans move in for a month at a time.

Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain

Tenerife highlights

• Sandy beaches and lovely hotel pools at almost every larger place
• A laid-back vibe with surprisingly affordable food and drinks
• Interesting and mellow nightlife with no mega clubs
• Teide volcano and national park
• Easy yet exotic place for English speakers with little stress

The island fills up more in July and August when more Europeans have their month-long holidays, so if you can come in June you’ll be dodging some of the crowds and you should also be able to get a better rate on a hotel and a flight. There aren’t many cultural sights here, but it’s a great place to relax without breaking the bank. If you don’t speak much Spanish, then you’ll want to head to the southern towns of Los Cristianos and Playa de la Americas, which are always packed with Brits and Swedes. It’s also worth noting that Tenerife is only one of the Canary Islands and you can often find even better deals and sometimes smaller crowds on some of the others including Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and La Palma.

Istanbul, Turkey

• June avg high: 79°F/26°C

Istanbul highlights

• Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque are both stunning and worthwhile
• Grand Bazaar is huge and great shopping all over
• Topkapi Palace
• Great food at very reasonable prices, especially filling breakfasts
• Shockingly cheap hotels even with great locations

Istanbul is the best place to visit on a trip to Turkey, but especially while it’s so cheap you might also want to visit the breathtaking region of Cappadocia with its fairy chimneys (google them) as well as the Mediterranean city of Antalya (see below), which is also historic and noticeably cheaper than Istanbul.

Antalya, Turkey

June is obviously winter in South Africa, and it’s blazing hot in most of the middle of the continent and over in Egypt, so you don’t have many great choices this month here.

Fez, Morocco

Middle East

A bit surprisingly, much of the Middle East still has very reasonable temperatures in June.

Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt

• June average high: 99°F/37°C

Prices here had become insanely cheap while Egypt was struggling with some issues a few years ago, but Sharm was the host of the COP 27 climate summit in late 2022 and it’s back on the map as a popular beach resort area, and it’s still quite cheap by international standards.

Amman, Jordan

Tel Aviv, Israel

Tel aviv highlights.

The cheap destinations in Southeast Asia will be celebrating the start of the drenching rainy season in June, so it’s not really an ideal time to visit if you have a choice. Still, there are some good options to consider.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

I’m planning to travel in the first week of June, Starting will be from Chennai, India. Budget would be 60,ooo INR per person. We’re a group of 4 friends looking for some adventurous trip. Duration can be maximum of 5 -6 days.

This question comes up a lot because almost every good place in Asia has rainy or super hot weather in June. The exception is Bali, so it’s the place I recommend most for June. It’s just south of the equator so June is the driest month of the year and it’s a bit cooler than normal as well. If you want to be a bit more adventurous you might go to Lombok instead, which is the island next to Bali and it’s less crowded and a bit cheaper.

In fairness, Bali is very crowded in June because of the nice weather conditions (and that it’s hot and wet everywhere else), but there are areas in Bali that are much less crowded than others. Perched in a sheltered spot on the Baltic at the mouth of the Vistula River, the city currently known as Gdańsk has attracted visitors – welcome and otherwise – for over 1000 years: Bohemians, Teutonic Knights, the Hanseatic League, and Prussians (later, Germans) who knew it as Danzig. They left a magnificent historic core, packed with Renaissance architecture lovingly restored after WWII devastation. Stroll the Royal Way to admire magnificent townhouses, city gates and churches, and shop for some of the fine amber for which the city has long been famous. That gold-tinged jewelry isn’t the only thing that glints in warm June sunshine. The sandy beaches of Sopot , the leisure-focused part of the tri-city conurbation of Gdańsk, beckon from just a few kilometers to the north, together with a host of lively bars and nightclubs – still fairly calm before the densest crowds of high summer arrive.

Most, though, come in July and August – and after the long weekend around Memorial Day (May 30), the crowds thin, making June a delicious month to visit, with more chances of bagging accommodation and finding space on a beach.

Sicily, Italy

The largest Mediterranean island is – excuse the travel cliché – a true cultural crossroads: ancient Greeks and Arabs, medieval Normans, Spanish and English conquerors, colonizers and visitors all left their marks here. This mixed heritage is evident in Sicily’s extraordinary historic sites: the ancient Hellenic and Roman monuments of Agrigento , Syracuse and Taormina ; Palermo ’s Norman palace and nearby cathedral at Monreale – all less crowded before the peak of July and August, yet delightfully warm for wandering. But the cultural mix also inflects the island’s distinctive cuisine. On a culinary circumnavigation, savor hints of North Africa in oranges and couscous. Every year, more and more people seem to choose to take their summer holidays a little earlier. Why? Well, you’ll have to ask them. Everyone is different, but the lure of fewer crowds, lower prices and slightly less-scorching weather is clear. Oh, and those enticing off-season prices. 

In the northern hemisphere, June is summer but not quite ‘July and August’ summer, while the temperatures in the south are also on the more bearable side of the ledger. We’ve compiled a collection of the best places to travel in June, although there is no such thing as a bad choice. How do the islands of Portugal , the seascape of Seattle and the beaches of Fiji sound? (You don’t need to answer that).

1.  Albania

With beaches to match Greece,  music festivals to match Glastonbury, prices to match, er, a happy wallet, and all without heaving crowds, Albania is gaining speed as the alternative beach hol destination, and for good reason. This year’s probably the final year to go before the masses get wind of this relatively untouched country with a fascinating history. Albania might still not be the most easily accessible place to visit, with only one major international airport in capital Tirana, but this offers an opportunity to travel along the coast or drive through the mountains and soak in its unspoilt and ruggedly beautiful landscape.

2.  Langkawi, Malaysia

It’s technically the rainy season on Malaysia’s west coast in June, but showers on Langkawi are short-lived, and sunshine often prevails. The main benefits of coming here in the shoulder season? Deserted attractions and bargain hotel stays. Popular Pantai Cenang beach is much quieter in June, while pretty Tanjung Rhu (which is far from the tourist hubs) can be practically empty. Take the cable car to the Skybridge on a blue-sky day for unforgettable jungle views.

3.  Fiji

June is technically Fiji’s winter, but temperatures still hover in the mid-twenties (mid-seventies Fahrenheit), and this ‘cool’ weather makes for seriously epic sunsets. The archipelago’s turquoise waters are particularly clear at this time of year, ideal for snorkelling and diving. Viti Levu’s outer islands are a top choice for experienced divers looking for a liveaboard trip, while the Mamanucas boast calm seas and beautiful coral reefs. Resorts are getting busier, but you’re still likely to find a better deal than you would in  July  or  August .

4.  Scottish Highlands

Time to get rugged. Nowhere in the UK does ‘rugged’ as naturally as the Scottish Highlands, but even the rough terrain of these northern behemoths takes a break in June. The sun even makes a brief appearance here during June, making it the perfect time to explore as much of the region as possible without having to make a break for shelter at every turn. The midges are yet to show up in force, and eagle-eyed visitors might even get to spot a dolphin or two frolicking in the waters.  

5.  Seattle, USA

Whether you come for a grunge pilgrimage, that gum wall or the incredible great outdoors, Seattle’s distinct identity draws crowds from far and wide. The city’s fun-loving side is usually on full display in June as the artsy Fremont Solstice Parade stops traffic with a naked bike ride, and Seattle Pride paints the streets all colours of the rainbow. Other highlights include orca spotting in Puget Sound or sniffing out the costly-but-coveted Copper River salmon at Pike Place Market (only available from  May  until mid-June).

6.  Prague, Czech Republic

In the past, the cramped Old Town streets of Prague in summer have tended to provoke whispers of ‘overtourism.’ But the city is trying hard to reinvent itself –  fewer pub crawls and horse-drawn carts , more culture and food – and if you venture away from the main hubs, you’ll find there’s plenty to see beyond Charles Bridge and the (tourist-proofed) Lennon Wall (although they’re still worth an early morning gander). June is not yet the apex of tourist season, but benefits from beautiful weather and (in regular years) a slew of delectable festivals, including the largest ice cream fest in Central Europe and a microbrewery bonanza.

7.  Zambia

Zambia’s dry and bright conditions in June are ideal for wildlife spotting in the 3500 square-mile South Luangwa National Park, and one big bonus; mosquito numbers dwindle as the landscape dries out. Walking safaris were first pioneered right here, allowing you to get up close to the region’s flora, identify the dusty prints of baboons, hyenas, or even leopards and see just how gargantuan African elephants really are. If that’s not enough of an adrenaline hit, make a beeline for Victoria Falls, where you can bungee jump over the Zambezi.

8.  Boston, USA

The Bruins probably don’t have many more years of contending left in them, but that doesn’t mean that June is going to all of a sudden become a quiet time of year in the Cradle of Liberty. America’s Walking City is at its most walkable during the summer, and the mass of street festivals attest to that, while concerts and other sporting events are a constant throughout the month. There’s also the small matter of whale watching, which is never a bad thing. 

9.  East coast, Sri Lanka

June is one of the wettest months of Sri Lanka’s southwest monsoon season (April to September) but on the east coast, it is a different story. In Arugam Bay, blazing sunshine and consistent waves mean this month is made for surfing… or lazing in a hammock with a smoothie, if that’s more your style. Nearby Kumana National Park sees far fewer visitors than its southern sister Yala, meaning you can spot leopards, elephants and crocodiles without an entourage of jostling jeeps.

10.  Azores, Portugal

As if the Azores weren’t idyllic enough already, in June, these verdant volcanic islands in the middle of the Atlantic burst with colour as copious wildflowers come into bloom. The island of Flores (meaning flowers) is the best place to spot them, but Parque Terra Nostra on the main island of  São Miguel  is just as captivating and a real treat for botany boffins. You also stand a decent chance of spotting whales and dolphins in the wild, as the widest variety of cetacean species is migrating through these waters.

11.  Zadar, Croatia

Truth be told, you aren’t going to be able to avoid the crowds in Dalmatia during the summer. Heck, you can barely avoid them during the spring. If you want to visit the Croatian coast in quieter times, pack that windbreaker and head here in winter. Still, Zadar and June are a gorgeous combination, and what is sneakily the most exciting town in Dalmatia puts on its best face and puckers up for the visitors. The Salutation to the Sun is one of the region’s great attractions, accentuated by a gorgeous setting sun and a crisp Brlog craft beer.  

12.  Copenhagen, Denmark

June is a great time to make the trip to Copenhagen, as arguably Europe’s most stylish city comes alive in a blur of street festivals and shimmering class. The live music schedule is packed during the middle months meaning there’s plenty of choice for gig-hunters, while the Photo Festival showcases some of the finest photography from the other side of the lens. Copenhagen’s weather is arguably at its most enjoyable in June, which is reason enough to schedule a visit for this time.  

13.  Kyrgyzstan

Current events notwithstanding, central  Asia  is having a moment. Relaxed visa regulations mean the region is more accessible than ever, and its unparalleled combo of rich history, dazzling architecture and rugged landscapes are starting to draw a savvy crowd. From mid-June, Kyrgyzstan’s low-altitude hiking trails start to thaw out, the whitewater rafting season starts, and remote yurt camps welcome travellers looking for a digital detox. In mountainous Naryn, make time for the Kyrgyz Shyrdagy Festival, a celebration of the ancient Kyrgyz art of felt carpet making.

Vacationing somewhere new or traveling back to a favorite spot is always exciting, but there's no doubt that some getaways can get expensive. And with inflation affecting many bottom lines, it's easy to let a fear of high pricing keep you from booking your next trip. But travel is still a priority for Americans. According to the U.S. Travel Association, travel spending will increase this year, even compared with pre-pandemic levels. And while demand may be high, and steals and deals harder to come by (you should know the best time to book a flight and the best time to book a hotel ), there are plenty of cheap places to travel around the world and some great travel apps to help you plan.

We've got you covered with the best low-cost quick trips and big adventures, both in the U.S. and around the globe, and they all have one thing in common: They're perfect for traveling on a budget . These spots offer affordable adventures without giving up any of the relaxation or entertainment that make vacations so enjoyable. And all of them are equally delightful outside of peak seasons, when prices on both airfare and hotels decrease. (In Europe, for example, avoid the prime tourist months of June through August.) For the most cost-effective travel (and to scratch that wanderlust itch), here are our cheap travel picks.

Lisbon, Portugal

Portugal offers all the greatest hits of Europe , but at a wallet-friendly price. Its capital city, Lisbon, ranked in the top 10 in a recent travel trends report from Kayak for its affordable international airfare (averaging $708 round trip) and low-cost nightly hotel prices (averaging $153 per night).

And you don't need a pocket full of cash to enjoy your time here. Simply walk the winding, picturesque cobblestone streets of Lisbon, lined with shops, restaurants, fountains and statues of leaders and poets. Step into a bakery to sample a pastel de nata (egg custard tart) for only 1 euro, or stop at one of the many stands to down a shot of ginja, the signature Portuguese cherry liquor (served in a tiny chocolate cup) for about 1.20 euro. Live performances of Fado, traditional Portuguese folk music, can be heard at spots like the Tasca do Chico, in the center of town, for an authentic and affordable experience.

Cartagena, Colombia

Set on the Caribbean coast, Cartagena, Colombia (touted as the most romantic city in the country and perfect for a romantic getaway ) blends heritage with sparkling ocean for a true tropical paradise. It's just a five-hour direct flight from New York and a three-hour hop from Miami. (No major international airport near you? Consider pricing out a separate ticket that gets you to your primary flight's location.) Airfare is typically in the mid-$500 range round trip, and Kayak lists their affordable hotels around $182 per night.

The capital city was declared a World Heritage Site thanks to its history and beautiful architecture, with colorful castles, cobblestone streets and colonial churches, so there's plenty to see. But what makes this city one of the best cheap places to travel is the low cost of living in a country that offers many of the first-world amenities and infrastructure you'd expect in a much more expensive location. Enjoy coffee at less than a quarter and multi-course meals for $4. Also, be sure to sample an arepa con queso (corn cake with cheese). Wondering what to read on your Colombian vacation? Mason, Ohio

This one's for the kids! Theme park fans looking for cheap family vacations will be surprised that some of the biggest thrills are right in the Midwest. Ohio is big on fun and equally big on savings as one of the best cheap places to travel in the U.S. It also makes for one of the best road trips in America , thanks to its Midwestern location.

According to experts at Family Destinations Guide, who analyzed every theme park in the country, the best value (between hotels, tickets, food and general expenses) is at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio. It's the cheapest day out for a family of four compared with other top U.S. amusement parks , with the lowest daily food spend ($26.32), the lowest average daily cost for park tickets ($160 for a family of four) and hotels at just $79 per night. Want to make a week of it? Cedar Point, Ohio, is about a three-hour drive from Mason and came in a close second, with a daily average ticket price for a family of four at $180.

Mexico City, Mexico

While Mexico has a long list of popular travel destinations , we find this North American city to be a great bang for your buck. There are plenty of historical sites to see throughout the area, including a host of world-class museums and amazing art centers in Mexico City with inexpensive admission fees. Plus, the exchange rate is more than 18 pesos to $1.

Are you interested in some of the best Mexican all-inclusive resorts ? With a pay-one-price model that includes your room, food, beverages and activities, all-inclusive lodging could be a budget-friendly option in Mexico. If you prefer to stay in standard hotels or Airbnbs , there are plenty of inexpensive lodging options in (and cheap flights to) Mexico City. Get ready for cost savings!

Prague, Czech Republic

Prague is one of our favorite historical cities in Europe and one of the best cheap places to travel for charm and culture. The perfectly preserved city has bright red trolleys ($1.35 for a ride) traversing original cobblestone streets lined with charming stone buildings. Around every corner, you'll find a new free attraction to appreciate, like the classic pubs (get a pilsner pint for around $2) or the medieval Charles Bridge, which is lined with majestic stone statues. Another highlight: There's an entire castle district centered around the majestic Prague Castle complex.

And it's not just the Prague city center that offers lots to do for a tiny price tag. Head off into the lovely countryside for a budget-friendly day of visiting gorgeous wineries . Plus, we can promise you'll find affordable luxury on the hotel front here too, with stellar stays at grand hotels and boutique hotels alike.

Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay

A hidden gem in South America, Uruguay is just a quick jump from better-known tourist spots, such as Buenos Aires, but is much more low-key and laid back. The exchange rate, from Uruguayan pesos to U.S. dollars, is currently 26 to 1, so Americans will get great value for the dollar when they visit. In particular, the historic city of Colonia del Sacramento is a phenomenal place for history buffs to revel in relics of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The well-preserved urban landscape has landed the city on the World Heritage List, offering historic walking tours of the cobbled streets flanked with colorful homes, restaurants and shops. In the warmer seasons, residents throw block parties, at which you can enjoy homemade Uruguayan street food. And even if you're dining at restaurants, an entire day of eating could cost you less than $10.

Lodging options range from small boutiques for about $50 per night to hotel chains, such as Sheraton, for around $160 per night. Round-trip flight prices tend to average about $540. And since the country is in the Southern Hemisphere, their summer high season is December through February, which makes it one of the best travel destinations during winter . If you want to get the best deals and pleasant weather, plan to visit in November or March.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

It's easier (and way more affordable) to visit Puerto Rico than you may think. Since this beautiful tropical island is part of the United States, you don't have to pass through customs, exchange money or even bring a passport to visit. And once you arrive, there's plenty of inexpensive entertainment, including some of the best all-inclusive resorts .

Puerto Rico is home to a bounty of stunning (and free!) beaches, especially in the main arrival city of San Juan, one of the best places in the U.S. for a cheap beach vacation . While in town, be sure to explore the historic architecture of Old San Juan and Castillo San Felipe del Morro, a citadel built between the 16th and 18th centuries. When you're ready for lunch, try a tripleta , a popular (and massive) Puerto Rican sandwich of marinated meats that costs about $8 at one of the city's food trucks.

Although we've seen round-trip airfares for around $200 from the East Coast, it can be especially handy to use your points or  credit card travel rewards to fly down to Puerto Rico. Hotels will cost most during peak winter and spring break periods. You'll also want to avoid the late summer and early fall because of hurricane season. But weather during the rest of the year is downright beautiful.

Bangkok, Thailand

Book a trip to the mystical country of Thailand, one of the most underrated travel destinations in the world. Known as the Land of Smiles, this Southeast Asian trip of a lifetime is complete with relaxing, adventurous, culinary and cultural experiences, all of which are totally budget-friendly. The most affordable city when it comes to travel is Thailand's capital of Bangkok. It's a city sometimes associated with its backpacking scene , however according to a luxury-on-a-budget survey by money.co.uk, Bangkok was the cheapest city in the world for luxury car rentals, Michelin-starred meals and five-star hotel stays, with the cheapest luxury hotels starting at $110. As far as getting there, we found flights for $860 round trip from the East Coast in the late spring (you'll want to avoid visiting during the steamy mid-summer months).

Once there, travelers can take advantage of other affordable luxuries, such as authentic Thai spas (at $10 an hour), incredible local cuisine for just a few dollars and a tuk-tuk ride (motorized three-wheel rickshaws popular around the city) for just $1.50 to see the golden temples that line the Chao Phraya River.

Toronto, Canada

Cosmopolitan Toronto, one of the most popular destinations in Canada , is just a 90-minute trip from 60% of the United States, so it's easy to reach for many vacationers. Plus, the U.S. dollar is strong against Canadian currency, so it will feel like the whole city is on sale. And according to Kayak, Toronto is one of the top cities for great hotel and airfare deals, with overnight stays averaging $202 a night and airfare about $375 round trip.

While you're there, head to the top of the CN Tower to take in the amazing views. Then, head to the neighboring Ripley's aquarium where you can ride the moving sidewalk through a shark tank. Both are included in the Toronto CityPASS, which features admission to five top attractions for a discounted rate and starts at just $56. The warmer months are peak season to visit Toronto, but they're also when you can take advantage of the city's most notable free attraction: the downtown beaches of one of the Great Lakes , Lake Ontario. Catch some summer rays here with the whole family.

Cape Town, South Africa

South Africa is without a doubt a bucket list destination  and was named one of the best places to travel in 2023 . But can it be affordable? We think so! If flying to South Africa has seemed too prohibitive to keep you from visiting the Rainbow Nation, think again. Recently, both Delta and United have introduced non-stop flights to the country, creating competition on the routes and in turn, making airfare cheaper than we've ever seen—especially in the off-peak seasons of late spring and late fall, when rates dip well below $900 round trip. After you arrive, the exchange rate of nearly 18 rand to the dollar means that most hotels can cost $100 or less. Gourmet restaurants and award-winning wines are also affordable at every budget.

Head to Table Mountain and overlook the city of Cape Town. Visit Robben Island and take in its rich multi-layered history. Explore the surrounding Cape Town Winelands, a beautiful region known for its exceptional vineyards, picturesque settings and history. And then take a day trip to Cape Point to see African penguins, zebra and other wildlife.

Antigua, Guatemala

If you're looking for the next cool city in Central America, head to Antigua in Guatemala (not to be confused with Antigua, the tropical island in the Caribbean). This well-preserved colonial town also happens to be near an especially hot attraction—it's surrounded by the Pacaya volcano. For as little as $22, you can have a local guide take you on a half-day walking tour of the volcano, complete with park entry fee, a water bottle and transportation to and from your hotel. Travelers who pack marshmallows and skewers can even roast them with the heat emanating from the volcano—now that's a once-in-a-lifetime activity at one of the natural wonders of the world .

Hotels here run about $118 per night, and average airfare is about $340 round trip. November through March is the best time to visit to avoid the muddy wet season; however, you may pay a bit more to visit during this time. To get a deal and avoid the rain, try a visit just before November or after March, in the shoulder season.

Las Vegas, Nevada

Flights to Las Vegas are affordable year-round from most regions, especially if you know the best travel tips . CheapAir.com recently listed Sin City as one of its top spots for culture, cuisine and adventure that you can visit without breaking the bank.

Dining and accommodation can be had for a song, even if you're not a high roller, with five-star hotels offering rates just over $100.
