About Hurtigruten

Hurtigruten is one of the few shipping companies that takes you to the fairytale of the Norwegian fjords and North Cape all year round. Certain ships of the Hurtigruten offer the possibility to transport people and cars from the south up to the northern end of Norway and at the same time offer all comfort that you expect on a cruise. In addition to the regular shipping lines and cruises along the Norwegian coast, our routes include some of the most interesting cruise programs to the most distant parts of the world, such as Svalbard, Iceland, Greenland and Antarctica. Hurtigruten is described as the “most beautiful cruise in the world”. If this description is true, you should find out for yourself.

Hurtigruten is a special experience! The cruise starts in the old hanseatic city Bergen and goes up to Kirkenes, close to the border to Russia, and then back to Bergen. A sea voyage of 12 days, during which no less than 34 ports are visited on the outward journey. On the return voyage, the same ports will again come into view, but you will arrive at ports during the day, while the outward voyage will take place at night. Excursions are organised from different ports.

Each ship has its own character and is equipped with all modern conveniences and comfort to ensure a pleasant journey. There are 4 different types of ships. You can choose from several types of cabins, with more or less luxury, but you will experience the same quality on all ships everywhere. So you can enjoy delicious buffets and meals on every ship of the Hurtigruten: meat and fish, cold and warm.

Our voyages along norway’s coast are perfect for solo travellers, whether for some me-time or to meet like-minded new friends., no single supplement.

We believe that a voyage along the Norwegian coast with us is one of the greatest joys in life – but we also know that single supplements can put many solo travellers off.

That’s why we have an always-on,  no single supplement  for selected sailings throughout the year.

Treat yourself.

Cruising solo means only having yourself to please – with a whole cabin to yourself. Where you eat, which excursions you join, when you go to bed. It’s all up to you.

Stay on deck all night and watch the Northern Lights. Skip lunch in favour of the hot tub. Bus tour instead of kayaking. Stay in your cabin with a book. Or crochet and chit-chat with locals in the bar all day. You are free to choose. This is your voyage.

FAQs for solo travellers

Hurtigruten does not offer specific single cabins for solo travellers. This means that, as a solo traveller, you’ll have a cabin big enough for 2-3 guests. 

We do not offer group trips, but we do have partners who set up tours for solo travellers aboard our voyages.

Some of our sailings have a single supplement, but we also offer a  single supplement waiver  on selected sailings throughout the year. The single supplement waiver means that you won’t pay anything extra for travelling alone. You can book a voyage for the same per-person price as if you were travelling in a pair.

Travelling solo on a Hurtigruten ship doesn't mean you'll feel lonely. Our voyages attract a diverse group of travellers, and the social atmosphere on board is famously friendly and relaxed. 

Many solo travellers find it easy to chat with fellow passengers during meals or when taking part in optional excursions together. Our Coastal Experience Team also organise activities, lectures, and gatherings that create plenty of opportunities to meet new people.

On many of our longer voyages, we invite all solo travellers to an informal get-together in the ship's bar, so you can grab a drink and get to know your fellow passengers.

Yes, Norway is considered a safe country for solo travellers, and frequently ranks as one of the best countries for solo travellers. It has a low crime rate, well-developed infrastructure, and a friendly, sociable culture that is welcoming to visitors. Add in the natural beauty and it’s no wonder why Norway is such a popular destination for solo travel.
