Paris travel guide.
July 19, 2017 By My Big Fat Halal Blog
Final year of university was a killer! In the midst of lab work, dissertation writing and exam revision, all I could think about was getting away from it all, escaping and quite frankly, quitting uni (as if haha). Thus, I would often find myself procrastinating on holiday booking websites, travel blogs and mesmerising Instagram accounts. It led me to spontaneously booking a quick getaway to Paris just after my exams and before my viva. My mum, my two aunts and I went for just a day, and packed in so much food and fun that I thought I would share some of my top tips and all that we did to help give you some inspiration if you ever find yourself travelling to the city of love! <3
A post shared by My Big Fat Halal Blog (@mybigfathalalblog_) on Jul 21, 2017 at 10:14am PDT
TIPS FOR BOOKING:
- Eurostar often release tickets for only £29 each way . Watch out for these in April, August and January.
- Sacrifice your sleep and book the earliest train to Paris to maximise your day!
WHAT TO EAT AND DO:
Grab your trainers and travel by foot as much as you can! In my opinion, that’s the best way to truly discover a new city. You can also opt for a metro day pass. … buy this at Gare du Nord as soon as you arrive in Paris.
- 9.30 am – BREAKFAST
Du Pains et des Idées – MUST VISIT
First stop was breakfast, of course. We HAD to go to Du Pain et des Idées , one of the best boulangeries in Paris! Keep it simple and get the escargot pistache et chocolat … and a croissant or two! You’ll need one for the journey home, am I right?!
PAIN PAIN is another great alternative for breakfast. They’re known to have the best baguette in the whole of Paris! I can also recommend their cheesy pastries, lotus eclairs *omg* and their fluffy cakes!
- 11am – SACRÉ COEUR
Next, we made our way to Sacré-Cœur. Climb to the top and witness one of the most beautiful views of Paris. When we went, a man was playing “La vie en Rose” on a harp and it was one of the most magical and breath-taking moments ever.
- 12pm – NOTRE DAME
Take the scenic route and stroll by the Seine until you get to Notre Dame. It has huge queues outside but it moves pretty fast so don’t let that put you off!
- 1pm – EIFFEL TOWER
A day in Paris would not be complete without a visit to the Eiffel Tower. We skipped queuing to go up and enjoyed some soft serve ice cream outside instead.
- 2.30pm – LUNCH
For lunch, we checked out a restaurant called Le 1818. Their food looked incredible on Instagram and I couldn’t wait to visit. Unfortunately we didn’t love it. But you can read more about that here if you like!
I’ll leave a list of other restaurants that I’ve heard are good at the bottom of this post!
- 4pm – ARC DE TRIOMPHE
After lunch we headed to the Arc de Triomphe and took a walk down the Champs-Élysées where we ended up getting even more ice cream!
- 5.30pm- GALERIES LAFAYETTE
Choose to shop at Paris’ most famous department store, or head to the food hall if you’re like me!
Here you’ll find the most delicious halal eclairs from L’Eclair de Genie ! They use fish gelatine so knock yourself out and try EVERYTHING!
- 6.30pm- “LA TERASSE” at Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann
Just before you leave the area, don’t miss out on one of the most incredible views of Paris! It’s on the roof of Galeries Lafayette and it’s free!!
- 7.30pm – CAFÉ POUCHKINE – MUST VISIT
By now it was almost time to leave and we were walking around trying to find a small bite to eat before heading home. This is when we discovered Café Pouchkine , the cutest cafe that you MUST visit!
It’s a big statement but their macarons and honey cake are some of the best I’ve ever had and it would be a crime not to visit!
P.S. A lot of these restaurants are closed between 2.30pm and 5.30pm so remember that when planning your day!

When we do citybreaks we tend to do a LOT of walking and don’t use public transport all that much. So for us, Paris’ Metro Carnet (book of 10 tickets) is perfect. Two great things about them:
1: They don’t expire so any leftover tickets can be kept & used for the next time you visit Paris. 2: They’re 10 individual tickets so you can hand tickets to friends who’re travelling with you and you both benefit from the cheaper price per ticket.

Halal hotels paris.
Like other tourists, Muslim travelers coming from Islamic countries have particular requirements when they choose the destination for their vacation. Among these requirements, Muslims are concerned about the availability of halal compliant foods (no pork or alcohol in food) and a clean place to pray.
Many international hotels in Paris do serve halal food that is slaughtered in accordance with the teachings of Islamic Sharia and is free of any substances forbidden by Islam such as pork and alcohol.
Other Islamic countries such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Oman and Brunei continue to be popular with Muslim tourists. Among non-OIC countries , Singapore, Thailand , the UK, Japan and Taiwan remain the top five respectively, but show improved scores on the index.

1. Hôtel Lancaster Paris Champs-Elysées 5* – Halal Hotels Paris
Hotel Lancaster is a boutique hotel dating from 1889, located just 100 m from the Champs-Élysées. It offers a classic and elegant atmosphere and its own Monsieur restaurant.
Rooms and suites at Lancaster are furnished in luxury fabrics and grouped around a central Zen garden. Some rooms have a separate lounge, a private patio or views of the Eiffel Tower.
La Table du Lancaster, a Monsieur restaurant, serves light and elegant meals in the contemporary restaurant or on the terrace, as well as a buffet breakfast in the morning.
The hotel also has a bar where guests can enjoy a drink in one of the colourful armchairs. A continental breakfast is also served daily at the bar.
This refined hotel in an 1889 townhouse sits a block from Avenue des Champs-Élysées. It’s a 10-minute walk from Charles de Gaulle-Étoile station, offering RER and metro services.
Polished rooms feature free Wi-Fi, iPod docks and satellite TV. Suites with a mix of modern and antique furnishings add separate living rooms; some have private furnished terraces and fireplaces. The hotel offers 24-hour room service.
The hotel has formal restaurant with a leafy courtyard; there’s also an elegant bar with 1930s-inspired decor. Other amenities include a fitness center, a sauna, 2 meeting rooms and personalized children’s welcome packages.
This five-star Hotel Lancaster reveals the French art of living and contains an extensive and valuable collection of artworks, subtly combined with contemporary elements. This address is a piece of heaven nestled in the heart of Paris that offers the utmost comfort and refinement to its guests.
The 45 rooms and 11 suites are mostly situated around a beautiful courtyard that provides guests with a calm and peaceful atmosphere, the ideal place for lunch or dinner, afternoon tea or cocktails carefully prepared by the barman.
Everything exceeded expectation including the luxuriously comfortable bed, the Clarins bathroom amenities, the cool light fittings. It was also impeccably clean.
Breakfast is served in a lovely room overlooking the courtyard which I imagine is great to sit out in during summer months. The food was very nice indeed and served swiftly with a smile.
The bar is impressively decorated. Not huge but a nice size and great atmosphere. The whole place has a calm feel to it and being a boutique size is not crowded or too busy which we liked a lot.
The location is also brilliant – just off the Champs Elysee you can walk to the river and the Eiffel Tower. There is also parking which was very helpful.
The Lancaster is a tranquil and beautiful, boutique hotel with an unbeatable location just a few steps from the heart of Paris. The employees here are wonderful and look after their guests so well.
The welcome and service is top notch whether from the entrance, reception or bar staff. Service with a smile and professional too. Public rooms and the bar are cosy and luxurious. Our room was luxurious too and very comfortable. The place to stay in Paris.

2. Hotel Tiquetonne Paris 3 * – Halal Hotels in Paris
A 2-minute walk from Étienne Marcel metro station, this modest hotel in the 2nd arr. is 3.9 km from Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris and 6.6 km from the Eiffel Tower.
The no-nonsense rooms offer complimentary WiFi. Some rooms have en suite bathrooms, while others have in-room sinks and shared separate bathrooms (access to showers for an additional fee). There is no air-conditioning.
Amenities include breakfast (surcharge).
A simply decorated hotel where the welcome is warm. The hotel Tiquetonne is located in a pedestrian street where you will find shops and great restaurants. In addition, you can enjoy the proximity of the “Centre Georges Pompidou”, “Musée du Louvre”, “Notre-Dame de Paris”, the “quartier Latin”, The Basilica “Sacré Coeur”, the Châtelet-les-Halles commercial center, and many other points of interests. You can almost visit all paris by foot.
Our central location is ideal and conducive for tourism. The rooms are equipped with double glazing for a quiet and peaceful night.
Nearby public parkings will help you to find a place for your car.
A generous breakfast is also possible to start the day off right.
The hotel’s location is very good in walking street and very close to Metropolitan ( subway ) just a few minutes to walk to Marcel station. The room was small but very cosy in cold weather in Paris.
Breakfast, typical bread, jam, orange and coffee, was nothing exciting and 8€ each per day, so we chose to eat out.
The location of the hotel was good, it wasn’t far from a main subway station and some nearby restaurants and bars. Easily walking distance to Le Louvre, Le Tower Eiffel, Le Notre Dame and Le Champs-Elysées.
That is a bargain in Paris, considering the location it’s a steal. My room didn’t have tv but on my first visit in November, I was on top floor at the back with a view to die for. On my second visit in January I was on lower floor and facing the pedestrian street, ideal to observe the life below. Despite this I didn’t hear a sound when I closed the window.
Yes, the rooms on both visits were simply furnished but the beds were ever so comfortable. Well taken care of and clean rooms. There is a wash basin in every room. The hallways are narrow and winding, the ancient lift slow but reliable. Shared bathroom and shower room kept tidy.
The staff are very friendly and seem chatty, as long as you speak French . They speak limited English but it’s still easy to communicate. I bought a lot of cheese st a nearby fromagerie, had it vacuum packed and reception was happy to keep it in their fridge for me until my departure.
Tiquetonne will always be my first choice in central Paris when I’m travelling on my own. I’m not sure it would feel suitable when I go with my partner though. For a solo visitor on a budget, this hotel is on top. I will be back.

The hotel offers fine dining thanks to the legendary Fouquet’s Brasserie, with a menu created in conjunction with Michelin star Chef Pierre Gagnaire, and Le Joy restaurant, which opens onto an unexpected inner garden.
The location of the room is superb, just on the side street of Champs Élysées. When you walk to Champs Élysées, it’s about 10 minutes to the Arc de Triomphe by foot. The hotel is like a theater, dim light, old photos on the wall, dark red carpet on the floor, everything has a classic and chilled vibe.
The room is very comfortable, fresh fruit every day, the refrigerator bar is free if I remember correctly, the breakfast is Western, the breakfast can reach the level of a premium afternoon tea.

Situated in Paris’ 11th district, General Hotel is just a 5-minute walk from Republique Square and has a fitness centre with sauna. Accommodations feature a Nespresso coffee machine, a flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi.

Set in the Right Bank, this contemporary hotel is a 3-minute walk from Oberkampf metro station, 1.2 km from the Musée Carnavalet history museum and 1.5 km from the Centre Pompidou.
The colorful, modern rooms feature soundproofed windows, free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs, plus Nespresso machines, desks and iPod docks. Some add balconies. A suite offers a living area and views of the Paris skyline.
There’s a bright, funky bar, plus a fitness room and a business center. Massages are available (fee). Breakfast is provided for a surcharge.
Our room was very clean, comfortable and well styled for such a small room (which seems common in Paris) – we even had a balcony which was a very nice surprise! I’m not easily pleased at hotels – typically because of the bathrooms, but everything was clean, and no visible Mold in the shower/tub combo and in the corners of the bathroom floors. Great shower pressure & hot hot water, and the (Skinjay) essential oil shower pods were a very nice touch. We slept great – nice comfortable bed & pillows. We had 1 large suitcase, and 2 small wheeled carry on suitcases. The space was tight (we managed to get our large suitcase opened on the floor between the door, bathroom and bed when we needed to access it) but it was enough space for 2 people. Complements to your cleaning staff, the level of clean remained consistent on each day we stayed (fresh bedding/towels), the coffee station (Nespresso!) & complementary bottled water was restocked every day. We were thankful for the small safe in the room (something that wasn’t offered in other hotels I considered).
As first time visitors in Paris, we were unsure of the location, but having the Metro station so close ( Republique ) we were able to take the train in time to see the sunset at the Eiffel Tower on our 1st night, during our sightseeing & took it back to Charles De Gaulle Airport (CDG) instead of a taxi to save ourselves (30€) on our way home.
We were impressed how easy and clear the metro was to use (we never got lost or confused) and bought t+ tickets (carnet de 10 – 16,90€) for travelling around Paris sightseeing.
We did not eat breakfast at the hotel, as there were many places we wanted to eat at on our short trip, so we cannot comment on that aspect of our stay.
We used the free wifi in the evenings and didn’t have any issues with it, fast & no interruptions in service.
The staff is genuine, Morgan is wonderful. Incredibly helpful, and knows her stuff. So no matter the mountain of research you’ve done about what to see and do in Paris, ask her.
The breakfast is delicious , room is very comfortable, as is the bathroom. Great shower pressure, temperature. No complaints.
They also send you an email with a checklist and asking for preferences, which I really appreciated.
While the location is great – two metro stations with 5 min. of the hotel, and plenty of great cafes, and restaurants, I wouldn’t say that this is the best place for a first-time visit to Paris (great for a second and third time though!).
How much does a room costs at Le Général Hôtel ?
Prices start 159$ /night for Classic Double or Twin Room . The Cosy Room Double Bed is 156 $/room per night with breakfast included – if coming on a honeymoon this is the perfect choice for couples.
A flat-screen TV and facilities for making hot drinks are provided.

5. Hôtel Les Deux Girafes 4* – Halal Hôtels Paris
Hôtel Les Deux Girafes is located in Paris, 2.2 km from Opéra Bastille, and features a fitness centre, a garden and free WiFi. The property is situated 2.4 km from Pompidou Centre and 3.6 km from Sainte-Chapelle. There is a restaurant.
Guest rooms in the hotel are fitted with a flat-screen TV. Each room is fitted with a private bathroom with free toiletries and a hair dryer. All rooms feature a desk.
The daily breakfast offers continental and buffet options.
Set in a 19th-century former furniture factory, this refined hotel is 5 km from Notre-Dame de Paris and 4 km from the Louvre Museum. The nearest bus stop is a 1-minute walk away.
The polished rooms offer free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and mini fridges, in addition to air-conditioning and en suite bathrooms.
Amenities include a restaurant, a bar and a gym, as well as a garden and a terrace. Breakfast is available.
Rooms at Hotel Les Deux Giraffes offer air conditioning and a minibar providing exceptional comfort and convenience, and guests can go online with free wifi.
First, it’s located in a very up and coming neighborhood – very chic, trendy, young. I’m not saying you shouldn’t be on your guard but we felt pretty safe in this area.
There are cafes, bakeries and restaurants all around – no shortage here and each day we picked different places to eat (we stayed a week) and then went back to our favorites for evening treats.
It is about a 7 minute walk to the metro and on the way you will pass some ateliers (or small clothing designer shops), an elementary school (which I loved as I am a kindergarten teacher), gorgeous fruit market, a supermarket (3 minutes away), small bars, antique stores, and just Parisian life.
By the metro is a traditional newspaper/magazine stand in front of which I had to take a photo because like who sells newspapers anymore? Our stay here was just delightful – even the rooms and hallways smelled delicious with a lemongrass scent.
We did not have breakfast here but they always included fresh, yummy croissants or pain au chocolat in a basket at the welcome reception area. The lobby is comfy to sit and wait for a taxi, or plan your day.
. Our room was quiet, the bathroom was immaculately clean, and the beds very comfy. Every night we walked around the neighborhood , then picked up our favorite dessert, and ate in on the terrace. We met other travelers there too who were lovely to talk to. This was just a delightful stay. I have been to Paris many times and this would be my choice place to come back to. It is not in the heart of the tourist district but it was quiet and out of the way enough that you get a sense of every day Parisian life.
I definitely recommend “Les Deux Giraffes” for your first or repeat visits to Paris. It just had everything you needed when you needed it.
